00:00
Hello, welcome to your national weather updates.
00:03
We'll all see a bit of sunshine over the next few days,
00:05
but I think most of us will also see some heavy downpours,
00:09
welcome rain in some locations, of course.
00:11
Here's the reason why.
00:12
This big swirl of cloud on a satellite picture
00:15
is a large area of low pressure.
00:17
One band of rain is clearing to the north,
00:19
another one approaching to the southwest,
00:21
but actually, most places are in between.
00:24
And so for many, it's a dry and a fine day
00:26
across much of Scotland, Northern Ireland,
00:28
Northern and Eastern England, a few showers,
00:30
perhaps across the southeast,
00:32
but it's more to the southwest of England and South Wales
00:35
where some heavy thundery showers
00:38
are likely to develop through the afternoon.
00:40
Temperature-wise, well, in the sunshine,
00:42
feeling pretty warm actually for the time of year,
00:44
25, maybe 26 across East Anglia.
00:47
Obviously, temperature will drop off
00:49
when the showers come along and feeling cooler
00:51
with the brisk breeze across the northeast of Scotland
00:53
and the winds strengthening down to the southwest.
00:57
These heavy showers move in.
00:59
Some real downpours are likely to develop
01:01
and slowly push northwards into parts of the Midlands.
01:04
We have issued a yellow weather warning,
01:07
certainly a lot of spray,
01:08
a lot of surface water on the roads,
01:09
parts of the M4 and the M5 in particular.
01:12
Fairly tricky driving conditions through this evening.
01:16
As we go through the evening and overnight,
01:18
those heavy showers will continue to drift northwards
01:20
into parts of Northern England and Northern Ireland.
01:23
We'll see a few more heavy showers
01:24
getting across parts of Eastern England as well.
01:27
Again, they will be hit and miss.
01:29
So if you're looking for rain, it's no guarantee,
01:31
but we are looking at some downpours across Eastern England
01:34
extending into Eastern Scotland by morning time.
01:37
So you may get woken up by a flash of lightning
01:40
or a rumble of thunder.
01:41
It's going to be another pretty warm night as well,
01:43
with temperatures generally holding up in the mid-teens.
01:46
On to Tuesday, and it's a kind of similar story actually,
01:49
looking down to the southwest
01:51
for further heavy showers to develop.
01:53
The wind's coming up from the south,
01:54
but perhaps a few more showers tomorrow
01:57
across Northern England and Southern Scotland,
01:59
where they'll be on and off for most of the day.
02:01
And then here come the next raft of heavy showers
02:04
being thrown northwards by that area of low pressure.
02:08
And by the end of the afternoon,
02:09
covering much of England and Wales.
02:11
Again, hit and miss, but again,
02:13
likely to be heavy thunder thrown in,
02:16
hail and lightning also potentially causing some issues.
02:19
So yes, plenty going on over the next couple of days.
02:22
It will still be another fairly mild day,
02:24
feeling quite humid,
02:25
ticking the east with some sunshine, 24, 25 degrees.
02:29
Generally elsewhere, we're looking at high teens or low 20s,
02:32
a bit more cloud tomorrow, not quite as much sunshine.
02:35
And there will be more showers as well,
02:36
which continue to get thrown northwards
02:38
during Tuesday evening on gusty winds across the southwest,
02:42
staying fairly windy across the northeast as well
02:45
with further showers coming in here.
02:47
And you can see just all spiraling around
02:49
this area of low pressure,
02:51
which not just dominates our weather
02:52
for the next couple of days,
02:54
but throughout this week,
02:55
it will continue to maybe move a little closer to the UK.
02:59
The isobar is opening up a touch to the winds,
03:00
perhaps not quite as strong towards the end of the week,
03:02
but with that low sitting over us,
03:04
further heavy thundery showers
03:06
likely on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
03:10
So yes, showers throughout this week,
03:11
some thunderstorms in places.
03:13
