00:00
Blue skies and high temperatures throughout the week ahead.
00:04
Temperatures could be reaching the highest
00:06
we've seen so far this year in some locations.
00:09
The satellite image does show a big area of low pressure
00:12
out to the west, a swirl of cloud here,
00:14
but it's mostly just staying out here.
00:17
We do have an arm of it that's been pushing
00:19
across the southwest first thing this morning,
00:22
producing one or two scattered showers
00:24
and still producing a few across the Republic of Ireland.
00:27
But they're tending to drift away
00:28
and high pressure is firmly in control.
00:31
Still a bit breezy on some eastern coasts
00:33
down across southwest England and southwest Wales,
00:36
but the breeze here easing further through the afternoon.
00:39
Little misty across northern parts of Scotland
00:41
and some mist and low cloud,
00:43
just threatening to edge in at times from the North Sea.
00:46
But for most places, it is a sunny day
00:49
and a very warm day.
00:51
Temperatures significantly above average
00:52
for the time of year 30, 31, perhaps in the London area,
00:56
maybe even a degree or so higher.
00:57
A little cooler on some coasts,
00:59
particularly if that mist sticks around
01:01
and with a bit of a breeze,
01:03
but generally temperatures, as I say,
01:05
into the mid to high 20s and above average
01:08
for this time of September.
01:09
It's going to be a very warm evening,
01:11
a balmy evening, if you like.
01:13
Overnight, we will see encroachment
01:15
of this mist and low cloud,
01:18
just pushing into parts of northeast England,
01:20
maybe even as far south as the Midlands
01:22
and much of eastern and northern Scotland.
01:24
So it'll be a grey, murky start here
01:26
to Wednesday morning everywhere.
01:27
It's going to be a warm night,
01:29
an uncomfortable night for sleeping.
01:30
Temperatures across Scotland may dip down
01:33
into the low teens or touch lower in some rural locations,
01:37
but certainly across the south, high teens in urban areas,
01:40
some spots may not dip below 20 Celsius.
01:43
So again, very warm for the time of year,
01:46
an uncomfortable and difficult night for sleeping.
01:49
Through Wednesday morning, as I mentioned,
01:50
a bit of a drab start for eastern Scotland,
01:53
northeast England, down into the Midlands,
01:55
a lot of mist and low cloud,
01:56
even some around the coast further west.
01:58
During the day, the mist and low cloud inland
02:00
should retreat back to the coast.
02:02
Some of those North Sea coast may just stay a little hazy,
02:05
even into the afternoon.
02:07
If it does, temperatures will not perhaps get as high,
02:10
but certainly for many inland areas,
02:13
hot day on Wednesday, widely into the mid-20s,
02:17
more widely over central and eastern parts of England,
02:19
over 30 Celsius, could reach 32 in and around London
02:23
during Wednesday afternoon.
02:26
Further west, again, a little cooler around some coasts,
02:28
but generally still significantly above average
02:30
for the time of year.
02:31
So this hot spell continues,
02:33
and particularly on Wednesday night,
02:35
a very warm and sticky night.
02:37
But introducing a bit more moisture,
02:39
just notice there are some areas
02:41
where there's the threat of some heavy
02:43
and thundery showers developing.
02:45
That's something to keep an eye on
02:46
as we head into Thursday morning.
02:48
But again, those temperatures will be pretty warm,
02:50
a difficult night again for sleeping,
02:52
and more widely in the south,
02:54
temperatures in the high teens are perhaps a few spots,
02:55
again, staying over 20 degrees Celsius.
02:58
That's pretty unusual for September,
03:00
particularly to have back-to-back nights above 20 Celsius.
03:04
High pressure continues to dominate,
03:06
although it is sitting to the east.
03:07
There's that low down to the southwest,
03:08
but at the same time, low pressure systems
03:10
just moving in from the north,
03:12
introducing perhaps a bit more cloud at times here,
03:15
and generally introducing more moisture.
03:16
So as we head into the weekend,
03:17
yes, most places are gonna stay very warm, dry, and sunny,
03:20
but there is an increasing chance
03:22
of seeing some thundery showers.
03:24
The warm air is still in place
03:25
because we've got the high here
03:27
wafting up the warm air from the south.
03:29
But this little weather front's introducing
03:30
the threat of some thundery showers
03:33
heading north during Wednesday night and into Thursday.
03:36
And then as we head towards the weekend,
03:38
the cooler air is up here,
03:39
but it is just threatening to push further south,
03:42
not really likely to arrive until early next week.
03:46
So the warm spell will continue,
03:47
but as we head towards the weekend,
03:49
an increasing chance of seeing
03:50
some thundery showers breaking out.
03:53
We'll keep you updated on more of that, of course,
03:55
and the best way to stay up to date yourself
03:57
is to follow us on social media.
