Welcome along to our national weather updates.
00:03
The weather patterns are definitely on the change,
00:05
but while there will be some heavy showers this weekend,
00:08
some places will still see some warm sunshine.
00:11
Here's the bigger picture, the view from space.
00:13
We've seen a few showers drifting up from the south,
00:16
but there's also a weather front approaching from the northwest.
00:18
This bank of cloud and rain is slowly
00:21
working into western Scotland.
00:23
Quite a soggy afternoon here.
00:25
Further south, the showers fading over the Midlands
00:27
and eastern England, but we could
00:29
see some quite heavy showers across parts of West Wales
00:31
and the far southwest of England.
00:33
So potential for some thunderstorms also.
00:36
So that's an area we need to keep a close eye on.
00:38
Elsewhere, I'd say most places dry and bright still
00:41
with some good spells of sunshine.
00:43
A bit of a breeze coming in from the North Sea,
00:45
keeping some of the coasts here a little cooler,
00:47
but for most still quite warm and humid,
00:49
particularly with some sunshine over the southeast.
00:52
25 or 26 is possible.
00:54
Feeling cooler with that more persistent rain.
00:57
Getting in initially to the west coast of Scotland,
00:59
but it is going to turn heavier and we'll
01:01
see more rain coming into Northern Ireland
01:03
as well as we go through the night.
01:05
So this part of the world looking very soggy
01:07
as we head into the weekend.
01:10
Further south, I'd say still a few heavy showers
01:12
around through the evening, but generally fading.
01:14
So much of England, Wales and a good part of Scotland
01:17
having a dry night.
01:18
It's got a stiff wind picking up across the north
01:21
and it will be a warmer night across northern Scotland
01:24
compared to recently.
01:25
In fact, generally a pretty warm night for September
01:28
with temperatures in many towns and cities
01:30
staying in the mid-teens.
01:32
That rain is of course for concern.
01:34
We do have a warning in place as it's
01:36
likely to continue for much of Saturday
01:38
over parts of southwest Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:40
Bounds of rain just kind of moving in and grinding
01:43
to a halt. Could be quite a wet day over parts
01:45
of northwest Wales, elsewhere for England and Wales.
01:48
Some heavy showers breaking out, but not everywhere
01:51
seeing that they're going to be very hit and miss.
01:53
So if you're desperate for rain,
01:55
much of eastern England has been a very dry summer here.
01:58
Of course, this is no guarantee that you will see it,
02:00
but where those showers do occur,
02:03
they are going to be pretty heavy with a lot of rain
02:06
falling in a short space of time.
02:08
Let's zoom in a little bit, though,
02:09
and focus in on this rain across Northern Ireland
02:11
and southwest Scotland.
02:12
As I said, there is a Met Office yellow warning
02:15
in place throughout Saturday.
02:17
That rain building up could cause some travel disruption,
02:19
even the potential for some local flooding
02:21
if that rain really persists in some spots
02:24
throughout the day, even into the nighttime period as well.
02:27
Under that rain band, feeling quite cool,
02:29
but elsewhere, probably quite warm and humid,
02:32
particularly in the east in the sunny spells.
02:34
If you don't see the showers, pretty pleasant day,
02:36
25, 26 degrees Celsius.
02:38
The breeze will be picking up across the far southwest,
02:42
and that's all circulating around an area of low pressure
02:45
that continues to throw bands of showers across the country
02:48
as you head through Saturday night and into Sunday.
02:51
Could turn quite misty around some of the coasts as well.
02:53
That low pressure just sitting there through Saturday,
02:58
Sunday, and probably beyond.
03:00
And around it, weather fronts will continue
03:02
to spiral in bands of rain.
03:04
So on Sunday, we'll see a further band of rain
03:07
coming in from the west.
03:09
Again, could be some heavy downpours mixed in with that,
03:12
initially across the west, but working eastwards
03:14
as we go through the day.
03:15
Behind it, it may well turn brighter for Northern Ireland.
03:18
So some sunny spells developing on here
03:20
compared to a fairly wet day on Saturday.
03:23
So plenty going on with the weather through this weekend.
03:26
Again, could be pretty warm and humid still
03:28
across parts of the east where we see some sunny spells.
03:31
And that low pressure sticking nearby
03:33
promises further heavy downpours as we go into next week.
03:38
So as I said, plenty going on.
03:39
Make sure you stay up to date for more details
03:41
on that weather warning.
03:42
Check the app or the website.
03:44
And of course, keep across everything
03:46
