23 June - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello, welcome to your Monday afternoon weather update. It's a little fresher out there for
00:05most of us, certainly compared to the back end of last week. The Atlantic is influencing
00:09our weather a lot more and out in the Atlantic, this large area of clouds is heading our way.
00:14That's going to make for a bit of a damp start, certainly tomorrow for much of the country.
00:19Ahead of that though, we've got some bright and breezy conditions, quite a few isobars
00:22on the charts, quite gusty and blustery across parts of northwest Scotland and an old weather
00:27front, still providing cloud and rain across the northeastern corner, lingering over the
00:31northern isles for much of the day. But elsewhere, many places seeing some good spells of sunshine.
00:36There will be showers feeding into western Scotland, some getting through the central belt into
00:40southern Scotland, the odd one skipping through into northern England at times this afternoon
00:45too. But for many, as I say, we won't see too many showers, certainly much of the south
00:49and east staying dry, some good spells of sunshine here through the end of the afternoon. And
00:53in the east, still reasonably warm, temperatures a touch above average here, 22, 23, maybe 24
00:59for many places that we are going to be in the teens. And that breeze certainly making it feel
01:04quite a bit fresher, especially so in western Scotland, where the showers will continue to blow
01:09in through the evening time. And then we look to the west, that area of cloud we saw on the satellite
01:13picture just moves in across northern Ireland. So it turns damp here, but it then spreads its way
01:19into much of central and southern Scotland, northwest England and Wales. Notice the brighter
01:23colours, some heavier bursts of rain through the early hours over north Wales, northwest
01:27England, especially over the hills here, turning quite soggy by first thing on Tuesday morning.
01:32Much of the south and east stays dry, some clear spells here, but still quite a warm night
01:36actually, temperatures in towns and cities mostly holding up in the teens, temperatures held
01:41up by the cloud and the breeze and the outbreaks of rain, which will make for a pretty wet start
01:45for Manchester, down through north Wales, up across the Lake District into southwest Scotland.
01:51The rain will continue for much of the morning, in fact, but tend to peter out a little through
01:56the afternoon. Further outbreaks of rain will come and go through central Scotland for a time
02:00across northern Ireland, although it does look a bit brighter here come the afternoon. And we'll see
02:04some bits and pieces of rain for a time further south too. But actually, they should also tend to
02:10clear away and the cloud will break up a little bit over parts of the Midlands, east Anglia and the
02:14southeast. Some decent spells of sunshine developing here come the end of the day. And here actually
02:19feeling quite warm and quite humid. We could easily get temperatures to 25, maybe a degree or so higher
02:25in one or two places. Feeling quite humid still with this damper zone over northern England and
02:30north Wales. I say the rain should peter out a little through the day, but still some showers to
02:34come through the afternoon and a mixture of showers and cloud across much of Scotland. Again, not too many
02:40showers getting to the east so largely dry here. So it's a bit of a messy picture through the course
02:45of Tuesday. Again, not as warm as last week, but temperatures are starting to rise a little bit
02:50with a bit more of a build in humidity as well as we go through Tuesday evening and overnight. Still
02:55some rain trickling into the west coast of Wales, some showers coming into western Scotland. Also
03:01something we need to watch for later on Wednesday, some thunderstorms again spreading up from parts of
03:06the south. But Aidan has more on that in our week ahead video that will be available on our YouTube
03:12channel by Monday afternoon.
