27 May - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello, welcome to your afternoon weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Bit of a dull and damp one for most places.
00:05Something a little brighter across Scotland.
00:07The bigger picture shows we're surrounded by low pressure systems.
00:11One up to the north, one away to the east.
00:14And there's a tangle of weather fronts and this massive cloud in the satellite picture.
00:18That's the one that's bringing most of us a pretty drab Tuesday.
00:22The rain has been edging its way in through the morning.
00:25After a dry start, eastern England finally getting that rain and drizzle
00:28moving in through the lunchtime period.
00:30So it's dull, it's damp for most of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
00:34Something a bit brighter across Scotland.
00:35Not much rain actually through the central belt.
00:38Mainly dry here, but some showers getting in across northern Scotland
00:41from the low pressure up to the north, which is also chugging in some fairly brisk winds.
00:46It's quite breezy too down to the south and the west.
00:49Air is reasonably mild, so even though it's dull and damp,
00:52temperatures could still squeak up into the mid to high teens,
00:55but not feeling very pleasant.
00:56Certainly feeling quite a bit cooler than most of this month has done so far.
01:01As we go through the evening, the rain will continue to chug its way out into the North Sea.
01:05Something a bit drier developing in many locations,
01:08but this line of thicker cloud and rain is likely to linger across parts of East Anglia,
01:13the Midlands, towards north and mid Wales through the night.
01:16So keeping things a bit damp here.
01:18Elsewhere, we'll keep some showers in western Scotland,
01:20but many places becoming a lot drier through the night.
01:23Quite a temperature contrast in the south, holding up in the mid-teens perhaps,
01:28whereas further north, down into mid-single figures.
01:32So a fresh but bright start for eastern Scotland on Wednesday.
01:35Good spells of sunshine here, northeast England too.
01:38This zone will be fairly dull and damp over North Wales, parts of the Midlands, East Anglia,
01:43and that'll bring some showery rain down towards the home counties in the London area
01:46as we go through the day.
01:48So some showers likely here, particularly in the afternoon.
01:50Also by the afternoon, some showers breaking out over northern England and southern Scotland,
01:54but not as many showers tomorrow over western Scotland.
01:58A drier and brighter day for northern Ireland, Wales, and much of western England,
02:02where it will be a fine Wednesday with some good spells of sunshine.
02:05The breeze will be easing down as well.
02:07Temperatures will be perhaps a notch higher as well with some sunshine.
02:10We could easily get up over 20 degrees, 21, maybe even 22 in London.
02:15And further north, temperatures, again, a degree or so higher than today.
02:18So feeling a bit warmer, a bit brighter for most places tomorrow.
02:21Just a few of these showers keeping going into the evening over parts of northeast England
02:25and southeast Scotland.
02:26Behind me, though, there is, yes, another zone of wet weather,
02:30and that'll come marching in as we go through Wednesday night and Thursday.
02:33It's going to be a changeable week with spells of wet weather
02:36and something a bit dry in between.
