01:52to the 2014 Creative Arts Emmys.

02:22The fanciest thing I've ever made was a cocktail dress.
02:26It's definitely not my thing, and I'm so scared,
02:29and I have a feeling that I'll be going home for it.

03:10A red carpet look for Heidi.
03:12I'd like to tell you, I've been on the red carpet with her.
03:14She is a magnet.
03:16There's a dossier at each of your workstations.
03:18The dossier contains photographs of Heidi from past red carpet events.
03:23You will notice every neckline imaginable is there.
03:28Solid colors, prints.
03:30So she's not married to any particular kind of look,
03:34and she wants you to be who you are as designers.
03:38You will have 30 minutes to sketch.
03:39Then we are going shopping at Mood, where you'll have a budget of $250.
03:44This is a one-day challenge.
03:46Heidi and I will make the workroom rounds together.
03:49And, of course, you'll have a model fitting later today as well.

04:30is a long floor-length gown strapless in the gray color.
04:35I am super excited, yet very nervous.

04:42purely for being in the bottom at the last two eliminations.

04:50so I need to show the judges
04:51that I have this creative ability they are in question of.

18:22it's gonna look so great i'm really focusing on getting the garment where it doesn't look like
18:28lines of fringe so i'm texturizing the layers it's actually quite fun and enjoyable to give a dress a
18:34haircut oh my god looks so cool do it i'm freaking out because i heard heidi mention something about
18:45mitchell's being devil horns and mine is looking like that the dress is not sticking to her body
18:52as i wanted it to oh my god this is insane like who makes a red carpet dress in five hours
18:58i need every second that is left in this work day i'm trying to make this dress as simple as possible
19:07but i'm worried that i may not have enough time to finish it
19:17so what i'm thinking is a really bronzy gold in the eye excellent i was thinking a really strong smoky eye
19:25so just a really classic but edgy red carpet look i think we've got the perfect color it's called

21:32out there are 12 of you here and after tonight there will be 11. for this challenge you designed
21:37a look for me to wear to the creative arts emmys i came to visit you yesterday and i have to say i was
21:42a little shocked and a little scared you had 250 plus another hundred dollars plus whatever someone
21:48else gave you two trips to mood one day to make your look so this better be good amanda you have
21:55immunity for this challenge and you cannot be eliminated today all right let's say hello to
21:59the judges first we have acclaimed fashion designer zach posen hello designers creative director for
22:06mary claire magazine nina garcia hello designers and olympic gold medalist four-time world cup skiing
22:13champion the very fashionable lindsay vaughn hey guys hi and we also have tim gunn here for the runway show
22:20as you know he is your mentor and he will not be judging your look today he also gets one tim gunn
22:25save each season which allows him to bring back one eliminated designer if it disagrees with the judges
22:31we have an anonymous runway show which means we the judges do not know who designed which look well i
22:37do have a little bit of an idea because i came to see you yesterday but then maybe some of you completely
22:42changed your looks so who knows all right let's start the show i love the way it's flowing i love the color
22:56hot hot hot i'm just hoping that heidi likes it
23:15so as my look comes down the runway i'm feeling pretty good heidi smiling so that's good

28:32kenny tell us about your look well i got inspired by old hollywood glamour and simplicity so i just
28:37created a simple silhouette and i needed to define it so that's why i used the sequin fabric and i cut
28:44it to the body to create just flattering lines into the dress i think you did a fantastic job i think
28:50it's stunning i think what you did with the sequence was amazing and it's actually really difficult to
28:55make dresses with an open back that actually still give it the curve in the waist this dress hugs her
29:01body in an incredible way really well done you had my highest score today kini oh thank you so much
29:09amanda tell us about your look well i really wanted it to be clearly formal clearly red carpet
29:15but very clearly mine i think it's beautiful you were gutsy and i think it paid off i don't know
29:20it felt like a beaded uh curtain oh i do feel heidi can stand out in this dress thank you christine
29:29so initially i wanted to do a black gown with red contrasting straps when you gave us a second
29:35chance i stayed with the red fabric that i had and bought more of it with the last five minutes before
29:41i made the mistake of putting the strap in the back because i didn't want it to look devil horns
29:46it's like a boob canyon yeah this is an address that's appropriate for the red carpet it was badly
29:52executed like it's short and it's just too sexy and you know that too thank you christine
29:59thank you mitchell i was inspired to do a beautiful red dress for the red carpet for you
30:05because i thought i would look really good on your skin tone when you came into the work room obviously
30:09my first look wasn't working so i completely changed it did you go back to mood i went back
30:13to mood to get some more charmeuse the fabric beat me up i do think a lot of things went wrong with your
30:19dress it is way too short i can see the slip coming through when she walks can we have a look at the back
30:26of the dress it is rough my zip is a mess it kills me i had a lot of trouble i mean it hurts my eyes
30:35it hurts my heart frankly this red in particular she looks like a christmas ornament you were out of your
30:44element here and it really really shows i understood sean i began thinking about yourself and how you're
30:53quite playful endearing so i wanted to incorporate this into my red carpet look that's when i began
30:58with the fringe and i didn't stop i think heidi would look gorgeous in it i love this dress thank
31:04you i love everything about it i love that color i love how you did the ombre i would be excited if
31:10i saw heidi in this and the second she moves it's going to be that action shot i think there's such
31:16bareness in the back that it really balances out the heaviness of the fringe it's a really sexy
31:24dress without screaming sexy and first when i came to the work room the fringe really was like this
31:31but he said i'm going to give it a haircut and i'm going to really make it look very different so
31:36it's not just these very harsh steps and it's amazing you're a very good hairdresser too
31:40karina well when you gave us the challenge i got a really dark green fabric that you didn't like then
31:47you gave us another opportunity to go back and you had mentioned that you wished it was emerald green so
31:53i went for the emerald green by that point we had about five hours left i did run out of time so the
32:00finishes aren't perfect would you wear this karina no i wouldn't no of course not it is such a boring
32:08simple mother of the bride's dress uh you can definitely tell that you ran out of time
32:14i mean on the bottom it looks like you tried to cut it and it's not even and then can you turn around
32:21the back is a disaster i didn't know what was intentional what was not i wouldn't wear it either

33:36yeah yes nicola come on out nicola's wearing amanda you know to me what i thought was quite elegant
33:42and very sort of jeffrey bean like yeah that's pretty i just don't brush you the photographing well this
33:48it's like when you're up close you can see the detail of it but the pictures are all going to be far away
33:53and you kind of lose that detail i just think it needs to be polished yeah for sure it's an idea
33:58could be really sophisticated right yeah i mean that is just so much fun when it comes shimmying
34:05over shake shake shake and it looks very well done it makes you smile yeah it makes you smile it's very
34:11thoughtfully done it's chevroned in the back i mean i guess it looks very easy but it's not huh it's not
34:16you just think oh you just stick a bunch of fringe on it i always say the easier it looks the more
34:20difficult it is to execute i mean keeney is a master spectacular i mean this is somebody who's
34:28obviously made stuff for a red carpet he has real horse hair in here that's going to hold out shape
34:35you will look extraordinary in this this is somebody who gets it dj's wearing christine you know in the
34:42whole time i've been on the show now i've really never given anything a zero this is a zero to me it
34:47looks kind of like an apron you know it's like a big one i said the same thing yeah it's unwearable
34:54this is awful no what is that part in the front what happened there it's just the zipper i mean
35:02this is a fast save that you tried to do this is amateur hour here yeah on a very simple design
35:08you know what it does really look like inexpensive lining the color of the red too
35:17color is horrible see he had these too and i said maybe he should just make this look like a flower
35:24instead i can't see you wearing this no one should be wearing this
35:27that was awful there were so many designs that we didn't like i was not impressed because really
35:36it's about the design design and the right fabric it doesn't need to be evening fabric yeah they all
35:42went for the satin like why it's pretty embarrassing what can we do to get more out of them you're only as
35:49good as your last look that's competition so we made our decision okay let's bring them back out
36:05the six of you have the highest and the lowest scores one of you will be the winner and i will
36:12wear your look and one or more of you will be out designers thank you for designing for me this week
36:24i have to say i was a little disappointed with some of the looks but some of you did fantastic
