00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03This is the HP and Intel Textile Design Challenge.
00:06Each of you will be selecting one of these innovators
00:09to serve as the muse for your challenge.
00:16She looks like a cult leader.
00:18Oh, God.
00:19It is ugly. It really is.
00:21Dom, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:23Thank you, thank you, finally.
00:25Yes.
00:26Alexander, I'm sorry you're out.
00:30You have a front row seat.
00:32For fashion's greatest show.
00:33This is Project Runway.
00:47Hello, designers. Congratulations for making it this far.
00:51We're close to the end.
00:52There used to be 16 chairs right here.
00:55And there's only 5 of you left.
00:57Designers, for each of our platform.
00:58of you left. Designers, for each of you this challenge is your most important
01:02challenge yet because it determines who among you will move forward to New York
01:07Fashion Week. No pressure or anything but this is it. For your next challenge we
01:14want you to spread your wings a little bit. You're going on a little field trip
01:18to Sweet Briar Nature Center on Long Island. Have fun designers, give it your
01:23best. And I see you back here on the runway. Bye guys.
01:34Hi. Hello. I want to welcome you to Sweet Briar Nature Center's Butterfly House and I
01:40want you to join me in welcoming our very special guest L'Oreal Paris consulting
01:44makeup artist Billy B. Hello designers congratulations on making it this far
01:48and welcome to the Butterfly House. It's the perfect location for your next
01:52challenge. The beauty of the butterfly has inspired us at L'Oreal Paris to create
01:56the luminous butterfly mascara with breakthrough technology to bring fanned
02:01out fluttering volume to everyone's eyes. So as you've probably guessed butterflies
02:06are the source of inspiration for this challenge and you will be creating a
02:09look that's avant-garde. That means experimental, it means daring, it means
02:14cutting-edge. This is the L'Oreal Paris makeup challenge so the makeup look will be
02:20very, very important to your overall look and Billy of course is going to be your
02:24consultant for that look. You have two days for this challenge, you will have 30
02:28minutes to sketch and when you're through sketching we're going to go off to mood.
02:32Alright designers, your sketching time begins now.
02:34The one that I'm gravitating most to is the dark butterfly. These butterflies have a lifespan of
02:48one week. It's sad I felt something so beautiful gets to live for such a short short time. I am going
02:54to use the sadness, sort of an emotional perspective to create an avant-garde look.
03:00There's so much to look at in the butterfly house. They fly so quickly but silently so I'd rather look at
03:11the butterflies than look at my sketch pad. Alright designers, your sketching time is up,
03:16let's head off to mood. Designers as you know this is the avant-garde challenge. You have $500 of suggested
03:27spending on your GoBank card and you have 30 minutes to shop. Your time begins right now. Use it well.
03:34I need something that's more rich like this, you know like tangerine almost. I took the monarch butterfly as
03:43my inspiration so I want to do sort of a gradient with a lot of gold, orange, and black. I'm definitely
03:49going to do like a cloak and a fitted dress underneath. It's too muted right? You know what,
03:54let's just grab all these. Let's put them all on the table. I'm just going to take all of that. Okay.
04:00Designers, time is up. You must stop shopping.
04:04$6.28.20. That's a lot less than I thought it would be. Yikes! You know I saved for a day like this.
04:21Let's just make certain it looks, looks. Yeah it's gonna, I promise.
04:26I promise. Alright designers, let's head to the workroom at Parsons. Okay. Okay, thank you Mu.
04:36Avant-garde is all about material manipulation and the fabric manipulation that I am going to do
04:44is a series of piping. I can very easily take another piping and go on top of the fabric and it
04:51becomes a textile of its own. I spent most of today making these noodles. Guys, it's time to go home.
05:05I still don't know what the silhouette's gonna be. I just need to think about this gown. I need to
05:11close my eyes and ask the fashion genie to plant a little seed in my head as I'm sleeping because
05:18I don't know what I'm gonna make. Oh boy.
05:25This is a L'Oreal Avant-Garde challenge inspired by butterflies. And it's the final challenge that
05:32deciphers who's going to Fashion Week and who's not. And playing it safe is gonna send you home.
05:40Good morning designers.
05:41So good morning, Tim.
05:43Billy B, consulting makeup artist for L'Oreal Paris, is here for your consultations.
05:48And I have a nice additional surprise. Tom Bacek, global nail expert for L'Oreal Paris,
05:55is going to be consulting about your model's nails. Thanks everyone.
05:58So I thought with the makeup, like it'd be really cool to just do a pop because I saw on the
06:07butterfly there would be a pop to white. Right, with the voluminous butterfly mascara, like winged
06:12out effect with her lash. Don't share this with anyone else. Okay, all right. No, this will be yours,
06:17for sure. I did think it'd be kind of cool to make her nails dark and iridescent blue. We can create an
06:21ombre effect from lighter blue to dark blue. That could be amazing. Well, I'm thinking a really black
06:28dramatic straight across. With voluminous liner because it's just an iconic eye. Yeah, that's
06:33really beautiful. Let's see your nails. Yeah. Is there a way of doing a falsie on her? Yeah, absolutely.
06:40We actually have 42 colors. So from nude to that orange gradient. I love this sort of green color
06:46where it's really, yeah, you like that? I do. Great. I think we could do something in kind of that
06:52sea foam or minty green. Maybe add a touch of iridescence to it. Thank you. Thank you. I'm
06:57playing around with different patterns and texture. I'm thinking like a colorful smokey eye. It looks
07:04like the butterfly's wings. Yeah, exactly. That's perfect. We could actually even take these speckles
07:09of color and plane exactly off of the different tones you have running through the fabric. Awesome.
07:15We'll further define these sort of architectural butterfly shapes with this super slim liner.
07:21Oh my god, that's amazing. What about like a new French manicure? I think that's fabulous. And I think that's
07:25going to pop a little bit more. Awesome.
07:26How is everyone? Hi Tim. Hi. So your inspiration? I really thought it was interesting that some of the
07:43butterflies crossbreed. They do. So I took from that the idea of maybe
07:47crossbreeding with my textiles. I love the idea. And underneath I'm going to do a jumpsuit. Just
07:54either doing it all in the ivory or doing it in another print, which I don't know if that's like
07:58overkill. Dawn. I don't know what that face means. What do the judges love most from you? My textiles.
08:07Mm-hmm. Well for me, this little bit of crossbreeding is barely noticeable. Okay.
08:13Carry on. Thank you, Tim. Thank you. Instead of being timid about using three prints together,
08:18I am now ready to go full speed ahead. Helen. Tim. Talk to me. Okay. I decided to do kind
08:27of like this cape. Her face is the only part that will be exposed. Oh. It's kind of like just
08:33like this big wrapping cocoon like. It looks like you're going to have a really exquisite dress.
08:39It's covered up by this thing. Okay. I can't breathe. I mean, I don't know what I'm doing.
08:47Come to. Come to. Right now. I'm going to give you some tough love. Get out of this conundrum. Rally. Rally.
08:57Okay. Tim's critique was kind of like the swift kick in the ass that I needed. Oh boy.
09:03Alexandria. Hi. Hi.
09:07So I just do this like a striat type of effect with this silk. It's very light like the butterfly.
09:13When I fit the model, I'll seam it nicer, of course. Actually, there's something rather
09:18intriguing about it. Are you doing it raw? I like it. I like it too. Great. Thank you so much.
09:22It's nice to hear you so much. Good. Thank you. Thank you. Hi, Graydon. Hello. How are you doing?
09:29My idea is that the back sort of becomes gown-like. Well, the back's spectacular. Thanks.
09:35I love it as a piece of sculpture. I like how simple the front is. I do too.
09:39I left it simple so that these could augment the lines and possibly in some areas do a lot all
09:49together. Do you really need them? Because for me, it didn't in any way enhance it. I was waiting to
09:58see what I could do to shape them. You know, as soon as you place that at the waist, I'm becoming a
10:06believer. Then we'll pin it up. I really am. I just got a little chill. I see the enhancement. This
10:16really works. Ah, thanks. Hi, Justin. Hello. How are you? Good. How are you? Good. So what are you
10:23making? I'm making a two-piece garment for the challenge. I've been doing piping manipulation.
10:31Oh, I see. You're wrapping fabric around the rope. Yes. I mean, for me, that is the core of what
10:38you're designing. Yes. And then you're going to have a really dramatic reveal. I bet.
10:42Thank you. Thank you, everyone.
10:54Ding, ding, ding. Midnight. Thank you.
11:12Good morning, designers. Good morning. Good morning, Tim. Today is not a runway day.
11:25The judges have decided to present you with an additional challenge.
11:30For the first time in Project Runway history, two challenges will walk the runway.
11:36So what you see here is the design work that resulted in the designer who created each of these
11:44looks being eliminated. With the exception of Justin, who's still with us, each of you will select one of
11:51these designs and transform it from, forgive me, but from a loser to a winner. So, Don, you won the last
11:59challenge. You get to choose first. Yay. I love Jeremy's because of the color. I think that there's a way to
12:09redeem that. Now, the rest of you will be selecting a look based on the order in which I draw your name
12:15from our button bag. Alexandria. Wow, without hesitation. I choose Miranda's garment. I can take these $20
12:25pants and make them into $2,000 pants. Brayden. Come on, Sue. Helen. I'm going to go with Kate.
12:31Oh. She helped me through a lot. Justin. They're all yours.
12:38The first thing that comes to my mind is that dress that eliminated me. But at the same time,
12:46that dress is a reminder of the nightmare that I had to go through.
12:55Nice. It was a very difficult decision. But at the same time, this is the perfect opportunity for
13:10me to transform it into something that will be beautiful. Justin, I'm very proud of you.
13:18All right, designers, you have until 11 o'clock tonight. All right? Okay. I'll see you tomorrow
13:22morning, everyone. Thank you. Bye. Thanks, Tim.
13:30This is literally all the fabric that I have left, but I guess I picked it, so. Oh, wow.
13:42I'm keeping it as a blazer, but you're going to have like this collar up here.
13:45You don't have to be tight, so it won't fall off. I'll see you tomorrow. Bye. Bye, you guys.
13:52Okay, here I go.
13:57Alexandra, are you cool? Yeah, thank you.
14:01I'm just tired, guys. You know, like, that's what it is. By the end of the night, I think I started to
14:07hate what I'm making, and the worries set in, so I would very much like to call home.
14:17Hey, Pam. Hi, sweetie. Hi. I miss you. I miss you terribly. Are you exhausted?
14:25Yes. I have this sewing camp called Camp Couture, where I teach little kids how to sew, and I'll tell
14:30you, it's a cool place to work. Hi. Hey, how are you? What are you making? I'm making a top right now.
14:37Cool. This Skype call meant the world, and I remembered why I'm here. I have to win. I have
14:44to get to Fashion Week to show these girls that, like, hard work can pay off.
14:50Last day. What, what? What, what? Come on, Sue. Give me your energy here.
15:07Good morning, designers. Hi, too. Hello. How's our final five? Wow. All right, this is a big day,
15:14because you will each have two models, and you'll be sending them down to the L'Oreal Paris hair and
15:19makeup rooms together. Use the Belk accessory wall very thoughtfully, okay? All right, thanks, everyone.
15:26Thanks. Bye.
15:40I would like to have a smoky eye. Okay. And maybe a pop of red lipstick. I want to do eyes,
15:48and lessen the lip, because I think that's younger.
15:53So I thought, like, just, like a, like a liner? The super slim liner has this incredible felt tip.
16:02I'm thinking of something full enough with a little bit of organic twist. Okay, I'll use the
16:08ever-style volume lines in this way, make it nice and fitting, and then I'll put forms in it, and then
16:14wrap around it. Awesome. That's good.
16:20All right, designers. You and your models and I are going down to the runway right now.
16:25I look like a piece of art. This is it. This is what's standing between us and Fashion Week. And when I go
16:32home, I'm going home to something that has nothing to do with fashion. So for me, this is my only
16:37chance, and I have to make it count. The winner of Project Runway will receive $150,000 provided by
16:46GoBank, the award-winning new bank account made to be used on a mobile phone. $50,000 of next
16:52generation technology from HP and Intel to help enable their creativity and launch their new business.
16:58A year's supply of resource natural spring water and an all-expense paid luxurious spa retreat
17:04for two to the exotic Maldives. Courtesy of resource water. A chance to design and sell an exclusive
17:11collection at Belk. A complete sewing and crafting studio from Brothers Sewing and Embroidery. A fashion
17:17spread in Marie Claire magazine. A 2014 Lexus IS 350. A $100,000 fabric allowance from Tide Pods to inspire
17:26fashions that truly pop in a $50,000 styling contract with L'Oreal Paris. It is a price package
17:32worth over half a million dollars. The model paired with the winner of Project Runway will receive a
17:37fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine and $25,000 from L'Oreal Paris.
17:47Hello, designers, and welcome to the runway. As you know, in fashion, one day you're in,
17:52and the next day you're out. Tonight we will decide who will make collections for New York Fashion Week.
17:59For the first challenge, you were to create an avant-garde look inspired by butterflies.
18:05And since we have such a big decision to make today, we gave you a second challenge. You had to take a
18:11losing look from a previous challenge and reinvent it to make it a winning look today. All right,
18:16let's say hello to our judges. First, we have acclaimed fashion designer, Zach Posen. Hello,
18:21designers. Very proud of you all. Creative director for Marie Claire magazine, Nina Garcia. Hi, everyone.
18:29And actress and singer, Emmy Rossum. Well, hi. And we're very excited to welcome Tim Gunn to the runway show.
18:36All right, let's start the show. I'm really excited about having the chance to mix these textiles and
18:50experiment with something a little bit more edgier and kind of quirky.
18:57And I really can't wait to push that even further. And I really hope I get to do that at Fashion Week.
19:06It was an absolute transformation and I made something super cool and I'm really proud of it.
19:16I feel so confident about my dress and whether the judges like it or not, I do. And it's amazing feeling to have.
19:30I am really impressed with how much work I put in in such little time.
19:36But I feel like I really missed the mark on this challenge. I'm hoping that
19:45the color speaks in some sort of avant-garde way.
19:52With the avant-garde work, I really like the transformation from the beginning to the end.
19:58And I am happy with the way it moves.
20:04So much work was put into that garment and it definitely shows. So I'm very happy with it.
20:16It's beautiful. It's strange. It's unexplainable. And it has that movement of the butterflies around in
20:22your peripheral vision. I didn't know what the shape of this garment was going to be. I just knew what
20:30impact I wanted it to have. And I actually did that. I can't believe it.
20:34My transformational look looks really great. It's a complete change from the original concept
20:49that Jeremy had. But the colors and the pattern is still somehow incorporated. And it looks great.
20:55I feel so proud of what I knocked out. She looks like a rock star.
21:20Those pants fit like a glove.
21:25She looks beautiful. She's selling it. The skirt looks absolutely beautiful.
21:32And it's still got elements from the original concept.
21:46I want them to take the look seriously. I want it to look sophisticated,
21:49although it is tight and cropped up.
21:55It's a good way to put that in the past. Then I can move on. I'm proud of myself for doing that.
22:00It's pretty. Even though I had a hard time putting this dress together. I think it's sleek,
22:09and I think it's sexy, and I think it's sexy, and I like Shaea's walk.
22:23I couldn't be more happy.
22:37Designers, this was one of the best final runway shows we've had.
22:43This was one of the best final runway shows we've had. I have a feeling that the judges will have a very tough decision to make today.
22:50This was one of the best final runway shows we've had.
22:58Justin, we're going to talk to you first. Let's bring out your models.
23:06Justin, tell us about your avant-garde look.
23:08I noticed there was one butterfly that showed out to me, and it was actually an albino butterfly.
23:15So I decided to make an outwear coat, and let's take the coat off.
23:21And with this dress, I wanted to refer to the butterfly that I saw, and I must say I'm very happy with this.
23:29All right, Justin, tell us about your look for the second challenge.
23:33I decided to pick the dress that I was eliminated for. I knew I had to take that dress back and transform it.
23:43I think you've done a really good job. I like your first challenge here. It has a lot of drama.
23:49She shed the cocoon, and then the butterfly emerged from underneath. I think it's beautiful.
23:54I also loved how you transformed your old dress, which was hideous before, and you made this look so sophisticated.
24:02Um, Justin, well, I think this avant-garde dress is probably the best work that I have seen from you.
24:11In terms of your other dress, your own dress was that hard to do.
24:16It was very difficult for me, but I knew if I did not pick my dress, I will forever regret it.
24:23It was a great outcome.
24:26Thank you, Justin.
24:28Helen, tell us about your avant-garde look.
24:30With the texture of the fabric, I wanted it to almost give the impression of fluttering
24:33while she was walking, sort of like growing out of this cocoon, and that's my avant-garde look.
24:38All right, tell us about your make-it-work look.
24:40This was originally Kate's print design, and I wanted to emulate the shape that she created
24:46with the floral on the pattern. Overall, I'm really happy with how it turned out.
24:50You must have done a marathon in sewing all these little strips.
24:56When you do this effect in this kind of work, you can look quite heavy in it, but her body looks
25:02amazing in it, and those are my favorite nails on the runway today. They are crazy good, and they are
25:08you. So with your two looks, I'm more a fan of your avant-garde look than I am on the reworked.
25:14I like her reworked look. I think it's clean, I think it's sexy and modern, and simplicity is next to godliness.
25:22I have to agree with Zach. I love the repurposed look. You just edit it down to such a streamlined silhouette.
25:34I think it looks very chic, very modern, very polished. In terms of your avant-garde,
25:40it looks like a pumpkin fest. It's so orange.
25:44Orange soda.
25:45Orange soda, yes.
25:46I just don't love the color, but I love your reworking. I think it's so chic. I think it's so elegant.
25:52You could wear it in the city in the summer to a meeting, and you could wear it on a yacht.
25:57It would look amazing on Beyoncé. It's really beautiful.
26:01Thank you, Helen.
26:02Thank you, Heidi.
26:04Alexandria, tell us about your avant-garde look.
26:06In the butterfly house, I gravitated towards the darker butterfly.
26:10I took the darkness of something so beautiful and made this.
26:15And tell us about your second look.
26:16I chose Miranda's look, and I chose it because there was fabric to work with, and I had fun with it.
26:23It was a reconstruction. I just was playful with this losing piece that she had, so.
26:29Alexandria, I love your avant-garde look.
26:32You created this kind of goth, sexy, dramatic dress.
26:37I think that you would sell so many of these dresses.
26:41Now, your make it work look, I don't love so much.
26:44To me, it kind of looks like a punk costume in a way.
26:47I think I'm with you on it. I don't love the styling overall of the make it work look,
26:51but I really do love your avant-garde look.
26:54It's a non-literal version of a butterfly.
26:57You don't have to just be colorful.
26:58It's really beautiful.
26:59And clearly, you did a lot of handwork, and I can really appreciate that.
27:02And I think the detailing around the neck is really beautiful, too.
27:07I disagree with both of you.
27:09I kind of love the repurposed look.
27:12I think it was smart to lower the waistline, made it a lot cooler.
27:16I think the vest with something else could be very cool.
27:20In terms of the avant-garde, this feels more to me like the butterfly that got stuck in a
27:26spider web as opposed to a butterfly.
27:30You know, Alexandra, I can appreciate the different techniques that you work in.
27:35However, I don't find it that transporting or magical or that beautiful.
27:40Thank you, Alexandra.
27:42Brayden, tell us about your avant-garde look.
27:45The butterfly house for me was incredible.
27:48I wanted to capture the frantic energy of the silent but energetic butterflies in a garment.
27:56Tell us about your second look.
27:58This was Sue's placemat dress.
28:01I liked a lot of the style lines that were happening in the placemats.
28:04I kept the drape.
28:05I kept the asymmetry.
28:07So that's the look.
28:08Two spectacular looks.
28:10The white is extravagant, exciting, risky, thoughtful.
28:17The hair, the makeup, everything works and is harmonious.
28:23This makes me so happy.
28:26You, in my eyes, have created art.
28:29I don't even know how to describe this.
28:30I've never even seen anything like this before.
28:33Brayden, I'm really proud of you today.
28:35We all had emotional reaction.
28:37You could feel it in the whole room.
28:39And for your repurposed look, I think it's really cool.
28:43Well done.
28:44Thank you, Brayden.
28:46Dom, tell us about your avant-garde look.
28:48The butterfly house I loved.
28:50The environment actually facilitated some of the butterflies' crossbreeding.
28:53And I really loved that idea of mixing patterns and creating something new.
28:57For my makeup work look, I decided to pick Jeremy's look from the Belk Challenge.
29:03And I remember one thing you guys saying was that it was very soccer mom.
29:07So I added a new print and mixed it and did some piping and detailing to try and take it the
29:12opposite way and make it more sexy and edgier than what he originally intended.
29:16I love the exuberance of color and print of your avant-garde look.
29:23I love the fact that you chose to do pants.
29:27That's a jumpsuit, sorry.
29:29Even more incredible.
29:31Oh.
29:32Wow.
29:33Wow.
29:33Wow.
29:34Wow.
29:34Fantastic.
29:35There's a little bit.
29:36I'm blown away.
29:37Beautiful use of mixed prints.
29:40Impeccable work you do.
29:43For your repurposed look, there's so much more intrigue and detail added into the top.
29:48You know how to break up prints in a very modern, feminine way.
29:53Well done.
29:53Yeah.
29:54I just want to wear the coat from the avant-garde look.
29:56I want to put it on over anything and just run around.
29:59We might have to fight her over it.
30:01Okay, I'll fight you.
30:03Thank you, Dom.
30:04Models, you can leave the runway.
30:14Justin, why should you go to Fashion Week and who do you think should go with you?
30:20I know my upbringing is not similar to many other people.
30:24I mean, being a gay and deaf guy.
30:27And I came here to become a role model for those people.
30:31And it is a journey that I would like to continue to fashion week because I have so much,
30:38so much more to show you.
30:40The two persons that I would pick for Eden because of his creativity and his approach to fashion.
30:50The second person I would pick is Dom.
30:53I love her passion for prints.
30:56I'm terrified of prints, but just watching Dom doing it is very inspiring.
31:05Dom.
31:06I'm just, I'm not going to cry.
31:08I'm not going to cry.
31:11Damn it.
31:13I just really want this so bad.
31:15This is such a beautiful experience that I'll take with me forever.
31:19And I want to continue doing this.
31:20And to take with me, I have become really close friends with Helen.
31:26But you make me cry too.
31:28I've always been impressed by her garments because she thinks in a
31:31way that's completely different from the way I think about fashion.
31:34And I will also choose Justin.
31:36The way he creates things and experiments with different techniques, I have such a deep respect for.
31:43I really would love to see a collection from him as well.
31:46And I'm going to stop crying now.
31:50Alexandria, what about you?
31:51I think I'm ready.
31:53I think I could handle the pressures.
31:55It'd be cool to have a chance and a forum and an outlet to show what I can do.
32:01Point of validation, you know?
32:04It'd be cool to show all those little kids that I teach, um, that you can dream.
32:09And who I'd like to take?
32:12I'd take Dom and I'd take Justin.
32:14Justin because he's sensitive and he's got ideas and I think he needs time to show what he can do.
32:19And Dom, I think that her work is different and it speaks for itself.
32:26Brayden, why should you go to Fashion Week and who should go with you?
32:29When it was time for me to retire from dancing, I was so scared that I wouldn't find something
32:33else that I loved as much.
32:34But I have found my second love, Project Runway, has solidified that for me, definitely.
32:42And now I'm here and I'm ready for the next step.
32:46To bring with me, I think Justin and Dom and I would have the most variety.
32:53I think I have similar qualities to Alexandria and similar qualities to Helen.
32:59And I think those three runway shows together would be the most different shows.
33:05Helen, why should you go to Fashion Week and who should go with you?
33:09I need to be in that position where I can show the world that I have this new look.
33:14I need to show the entire universe. It's my time.
33:19And at Fashion Week, I want my clothes to speak for me.
33:22I want them to walk down the runway and you say instantaneously, this is Helen's work.
33:28And I would live to have Brayden with me.
33:32Dom has been a phenomenal friend. And past that, when we're in the workroom together,
33:37it's like she's like a robot, like she's just ready to go.
33:40And at the end of the day at Fashion Week, there will be so much diversity
33:43between our collections we are to show together.
33:46Thank you, designers.
33:48We're now going to take a closer look at the clothes and make a very, very big decision.
33:53You can eat the runway.
34:04Hi, Tim.
34:05Hi, Heidi.
34:06Up close and personal.
34:08It was a very exciting runway show today.
34:10It was really thrilling.
34:12I am just knocked out by what they've done.
34:16Molly, why don't you come forward?
34:18I'm so excited.
34:18I wanted to look at this one up close.
34:21Helen was in a very bad place and she pulled it off.
34:24I think it's pretty.
34:25Her construction underneath is impeccable.
34:28But how many times have we seen this technique?
34:30A hundred times.
34:30I know.
34:32So this was Kate's.
34:33She really has a good understanding of the lines of the body.
34:37Yeah, look at this panel, how it goes from wide to slim.
34:41I'm obsessed with seaming and she has a really good refined hand on it.
34:49Let's talk about Alexandria.
34:51I love this goth dress.
34:53I do too.
34:53I want it.
34:55I don't understand why you guys didn't love this.
34:57Really?
34:58It looked a little bit like she was caught in a spider web.
35:02This on the other hand.
35:03This on the other hand, I did like.
35:04That is so bizarre.
35:05I liked it.
35:06I thought she was clever.
35:08It looks like a costume.
35:09It looks like an Avril Lavigne backup dancer.
35:11From 10 years ago.
35:13I thought it was cool.
35:14I know girls that would wear these pants and make them work and look cool.
35:17The upper part.
35:18The upper part is crazy.
35:19Is a throwaway.
35:20Everything.
35:20Looks like.
35:21You hate the vest?
35:22She painted it.
35:23I think that's kind of cool.
35:24She has a strong sensibility of what's modern, what's now.
35:32Justin, let's talk about him.
35:33Let's just start with this like penne velvet cording.
35:37Like that's not easy to do.
35:38No.
35:39So you take like a cotton rope and you cover it and stitch it in and then lay it onto the body.
35:44And then will you take this off for us?
35:47Bloom.
35:49She's a butterfly.
35:50It's very pretty.
35:50It is a little messy when you see it up close.
35:53But I think it's very inventive and creative.
35:56This is his best work.
35:57I totally agree.
35:58Very cool.
35:59Priscilla.
36:00I like this dress.
36:01I like it too.
36:02I'm getting emotional.
36:04I have to say he was sobbing as he pushed the dress form to his workspace.
36:08Oh.
36:09He said I couldn't just leave it there in that form.
36:11I needed to show the judges that I do know what I'm doing.
36:15That's brave.
36:16Yeah.
36:16I agree.
36:16And it should be commended.
36:19Moving on to Dom.
36:21This is so wonderful.
36:22I'll try it on right now.
36:23You should try it on.
36:25You could do like the spin in it.
36:27Let me see, Amy.
36:29What's amazing about it is it's incredibly light.
36:31It doesn't feel like you're wearing this big, massive, cumbersome garment.
36:35It looks great on you.
36:36I love it.
36:36It's cool.
36:38Really cool.
36:38It's such a pretty fabric.
36:40It's so beautiful.
36:41It's great.
36:42Really cool.
36:43So this is the transformed look.
36:45Much better.
36:46I can't imagine how you could make this print work.
36:50And she did.
36:54Let's talk about Brayden.
36:56This is just walking art.
36:58I love it.
36:59I told him I'm rapturous about the entire look.
37:02It's here around the neck.
37:04It's so beautiful.
37:05This also is very cool.
37:06Oh, so chic.
37:08But respecting the integrity of that garment.
37:12And what did he do here?
37:13Is that a button that he's covered?
37:14It's like a button knot in the self fabric.
37:18Oh, really good.
37:19It's beautiful.
37:21Yeah.
37:26All right.
37:26Let's discuss.
37:27Yeah.
37:27All right.
37:27Thank you very much.
37:28Thank you, Tim.
37:29And good luck.
37:34I think what Brayden and Dom did today was extraordinary.
37:37The other three, there were things that we loved.
37:40I agree.
37:41And some things that we didn't love.
37:42Well, if you had to have one person out, who would it be?
37:45For me right now, it would be Alexander.
37:48Really?
37:48Yes.
37:49And me too.
37:50But I believe in her ability to do great work.
37:53It's our responsibility to narrow it down.
37:56And there's always going to be an edit in life.
38:01It's a heart-wrenching thing to get so close.
38:05So we've made our decision.
38:10All right.
38:10Let's bring them back out.
38:19Designers, this was one of the best final runways we've had.
38:26We think you all did very well.
38:28And some of you blew us away.
38:32Dom, both the make-it-work look and the avant-garde look were stunning.
38:38Brayden, your looks were also very impressive.
38:43And your avant-garde gown was a true work of art.
38:48Brayden, you are the winner of this challenge.
38:53Thank you so much.
38:54Congratulations.
38:55Thank you very much.
38:56Thank you very much.
38:57Very well deserved.
38:58You will be showing at New York Fashion Week.
39:01Amazing.
39:02A dream come true.
39:04Thank you so much.
39:05Dom, congratulations.
39:07You also will be showing at New York Fashion Week.
39:09I'm not crying again, no.
39:12I'm crying.
39:12I'm so emotional for you.
39:14Oh, I'm sorry.
39:16Brayden, Dom, you're both in.
39:18You can leave the runway.
39:21I really have learned how to translate my ideas and my instincts to a garment.
39:28And I'm so happy that the judges understood what I was going for.
39:33Oh, my God.
39:34Girl, we are going to New York Fashion Week.
39:40I can't believe it.
39:41Hello, I am showing my own collection at New York Fashion Week.
39:45Thank you very much.
39:46I'll see you there in the front row.
39:51The rest of you, there were some strengths and some weaknesses.
39:54And to be quite honest, all of us didn't quite agree.
39:58We had a tough decision to make today.
40:01We do think that you have the potential to do more.
40:04You all have passion and true talent.
40:08But what you've done today was not strong enough to confirm a spot for New York Fashion Week.
40:14So we are allowing all of you to create collections.
40:23But that does not mean that you will all compete at Fashion Week.
40:30You three will have to battle it out.
40:32And then we will decide who will compete with Brayden and Dom at New York Fashion Week.
40:38So go home, put together a great collection, and wow us.
40:43You can all leave the runway.
40:46Good luck to all of you.
40:54What?
40:54So you two have secured spots, and we have to compete for the third.
40:58Are you serious?
40:59Designers, I am so incredibly proud of each of you, and I couldn't be happier.
41:07Because the whole notion of coming in here and telling one of you to go to the work room
41:10to clean up your space, well, I was ready to jump in front of a bus outside first.
41:15So congratulations.
41:19And it means I'll be making a home visit to each of you.
41:23Group hug, everybody.
41:24Having our own private hug.
41:26Our own little private group hug.
41:33Next time on Project Runway, Helen, Justin, Alexandria, you are going to create collections.
41:39We will decide which of you will show at Lincoln Center.
41:42I will check in on you very soon.
41:45I don't think that that is going to be acceptable.
41:48I'm disarmed by the fact that you have so many pieces.
41:50Are you playing with the pleading here?
41:52The potential is not there yet.
41:54You're going to love it.
41:54Looks good.
41:55I'm the strongest one.
41:56I know I am.
41:57Keep going.
41:58We are going down to the runway.
42:00What the ?
42:01This blew me away today.
42:03I loved it.
42:04It feels contrived.
42:05Now I know what that spell is.
42:15But it's not there for me.
42:16Let's go back to this
