01:49think about today we're headed to the webster music hall to find out what our challenge is
02:11i'm kind of getting that it's going to be a wedding are we taking apart old wedding dresses and making
02:16a new one are we dressing a celebrity for their wedding oh my god oh my god
02:30oh my god it's dita von tis is just an amazing woman not only is she sexy she's a fashion icon
02:40good morning designers good morning i'll bet you weren't expecting this this morning
02:46well i know you recognize this fantastic fabulous and rapturous woman next to me
02:52burlesque dancer and designer of her own lingerie line the incomparable dita von tis hello
03:00i'm super happy to be here today it's not every day that i get to walk a fashion icon down the aisle
03:06well tim and i are not getting married today but wouldn't that be fun
03:09actually it would wake my mother from the dead to be perfectly honest and you know if tina and i
03:15were getting married more and more people are doing whatever they want with their weddings and they're
03:19getting rid of all those old traditional rules and that's emblematic of this challenge it's about
03:24shaking off traditions i love non-traditional weddings i think a wedding is a great opportunity
03:29for someone to really let their dress reflect their personality and their character and not just wear a
03:34bride's costume so designers for this challenge you are creating your own version of an alternative
03:41wedding dress there are no rules and there really aren't any rules designers we want you to unleash
03:47your creativity just make certain that it's believable for a bride we don't want costumes you will also
03:54be creating a corresponding dress for the reception oh so for the same bride and if that sounds like a lot
04:02of work it is so for this challenge you'll be working in teams of two the last thing i want to do
04:11is listen to somebody else i hate team challenges each team will have one day for this challenge and
04:17a budget of 400 so let's choose our teams fade your teammate is emily i'm excited that fate is my partner
04:30we're the only ones that are close to the same age i'm married and he's married and we both know
04:35what each other is really good at so i'm happy alexander
04:41samantha i'm really excited to be working with samantha we do have a similar design aesthetic
04:46and this challenge is really going to be good for the both of us keene
04:48sean sean darling oh boy he has immunity and if we go to the bottom i could be going home sandia
05:03and sandia your teammate will be sharkita i actually have mixed emotions she has a really colorful
05:12outside the box design aesthetic and i'm more every day with a little twist so i'm kind of worried
05:17for this challenge honestly
05:25so amanda and karina you work together i'm not quite sure yet how i feel about amanda it's hard to
05:33get close to somebody that you're not sure if you trust yay shall we to the honeymoon the designers
05:43start sketching
05:49let's do like a colorful rock star what do you feel about that yeah what about leather we did colorful
05:55leather that's something totally different so let's maybe make her a wedding gown like maybe a leather
06:00vest over do you think that what do you think about that i think you should totally do what you
06:05believe in so maybe i'll make her reception dress okay and i'll do the wedding dress i was i have this
06:11technique in my mind a hand glazed technique what kind of colors are you thinking though um i'm thinking
06:16yellow like springy citrus yeah citrus i like that i totally feel denim paint on denim is fabulous let's
06:27not limit ourselves to just using denim i mean it's a good idea but like if we don't see anything
06:32in there like the fabric really has to like speak to us and then a suit for the ceremony is so non
06:38traditional for the woman to wear this suit like that's awesome karina's suit may just come off as
06:44just a suit is there any way we need to like twist this suit like does punk rock girl wear white or does
06:54she just wear black are you comfortable with like you're more in charge of the suit and i'm more in
07:00charge of the dress yeah definitely or maybe like you do like a take on a tuxedo dress and i do like
07:06the tuxedo pants okay our girl is actually like a lesbian couple she's a business woman that can't get
07:13out of her suit but she needs to get married i do design teams your sketching time is up we're headed off
07:20the mood
07:31is that too foo-foo i don't know i'm totally loving the challenge alexander's creating this awesome lace
07:38wedding gown oh my god there's some bright in there i i love this one that's kind of bright
07:43that's not this is for just the that's still i kind of i don't think that's kind of bright
07:48sandia is not soft spoken she's headstrong honestly i wanted a softer yellow so i'm kind of questioning
07:55it but i feel like at this point in the competition you have to take risks so you have to just go for it
08:00do you like this for the veil yeah my dress is going to be very dramatic super long train in the back
08:07crazy dramatic veil that's interesting you know what i just rolled a paint on this and that's the
08:12pain it's really cool okay yeah you go go make the decision i totally trust you on the fabric okay

08:58sandhya wait for a second this this leather is not look at that oh but i'll tell you what happened so
09:06your dart is this is the apex okay so your dart should be ending here and this dart should be ending
09:13a little bit low that's how you will get the boob that's not that the leather is stiff so it doesn't
09:18so like yeah so that's the but now if you take it off there'll be holes in the leather no i know
09:25my biggest concern today is sharkita the color's off the design's off it seems like she has
09:31construction issues and she needs a lot of help coming up on project runway
09:40oh that top is such a mess you two have to mind meld this is just drab i'm worried
10:04that's gonna be pretty so the challenge is to make a non-traditional wedding dress
10:09and a reception dress to go with because you have that on the this should we just make it a straight
10:17like all this volume into like a pencil underneath and it ties with that yeah this could be my winning
10:24look i'm so confident that this is my turn so is your base going to be the burgundy also possibly
10:30none of this underneath i have the problem where i get anxious and i overthink things in my head
10:35i'm just a little nervous because i've never made something that was specifically for a wedding
10:41oh i'm excited about this oh i'm excited about it i can't contain myself aren't you excited no i'm
10:47mocking amanda she said she was excited honestly i don't think that it's fair that amanda was brought
10:53back i told her this too i'm like i think it's something a little ingenuine about her that's honestly how i
11:00feel so i am here to check in with our teams tell me about your bride she is dark but she still has a
11:08great romantic feel to herself we're really intrigued by this oxblood lace this is the way we're going
11:15with the applique and which one is this this one's mine the party with ivory coming out of the lace it
11:21really looks very organic it's that additional applique this one you just want to snatch it off with this
11:28applique for the one that i'm doing that's going to have the higher like neck and a fuller skirt one
11:33question i have is are they two related i just don't want them to look like she walked down the aisle
11:37had the ceremony and then cut the hem to go to the reception right sandhya sharkita hi phil how are you
11:46doing good what i'm doing is this handmade french lace and then cover this up here so we won't see it
11:53you yeah you wouldn't see this this is just taken underneath thank yeah goodness and see my girl is
11:58ready to party it's the reception so she's she's ready to have fun i'm worried okay that top is such
12:04a mess that it would be a very serious issue for the judges okay so it's gotta be clean i mean here's my
12:11message to you this has to be superbly executed and i'll tell you why okay it's so on the edge it's going
12:21to become a matter of taste with the judges okay it's a tough color ladies okay emily hi hello so
12:30this is reception and this is ceremony right i'd love to hear about it i'm going to do a veil that's
12:36going to be like more like a hood like really structured and then she pulls it down is it out of
12:41that out of the lace out of the lace this is going to be all fitted and i was thinking if it had volume
12:46in the sleeve it would add a little more drama otherwise it might be a little plain i like it
12:50okay great so this is like reception stage of the fabric i know how you are you're making a textile
12:57what shape is going to become a fitted dress knee length and then open here maybe with like a trim
13:04to tie it back in how do you each feel about the relationship between these two garments
13:08it has a very different vibe the shape of it the silhouette has to be something that you believe
13:16this bride would step into right so i'm doing the ceremony look it's going to be a long jacket really
13:26tailored and fitted okay and some detailing in the lapels and in the hemline so it's a tuxedo style
13:32it's going to be a tuxedo you need to get as much of yourself into this as you possibly can
13:40this is not my third fringe dress i promise the judges seem to like fringe yeah they do yeah what
13:46i'm doing is cutting out these kind of fun confetti shape here you can kind of see the effect actually
13:52it's beautiful i know right it's kind of cool yeah all right let me ask this bluntly karina i just
13:57am not certain whether you have enough innovation in that look and here it's all about innovation
14:06you're going to have to stand back critically and objectively and ask yourself the hard questions
14:11because as we learned with the last challenge i mean somebody's going home
14:19and you don't want it to be you
14:21hello hello hello how are you good who's your client um we decided that the most unconventional
14:33wedding that we could think of that was applicable to us was a gay marriage i'm ecstatic and no one
14:39else is doing that i couldn't believe it so i'm thrilled for my look um we went with a more masculine
14:46top and then a feminine bottom so to make it a lot more feminine that's why i added the circular ruffle
14:52here and then just kept with the tailoring of the jacket on the top and it's and the skirt is asymmetrical
14:58yes so for the reception we're doing like a tuxedo pants like a cigarette leg and then up into this
15:05very low cut draping yeah it's gonna stop here and then at the back it drapes down on the bias like
15:11a veil almost i like this i like the width of the tuxedo stripe there's gonna be a clean crisp break
15:17how wide will that band be yet to be decided maybe it's the scale of a cummerbund that could be nice
15:24i'm very excited carry on thank you thank you all right design teams just keep your critical eyes
15:32functioning if something doesn't feel right it probably is not so your models will be in in about
15:37an hour you have until 11 o'clock tonight work hard all right bye
15:48i see what he's saying about the design but this is like what i do
15:53i really need to figure out a new way to make this jacket interesting but i don't want to go
15:59outside of my box because i need to just make sure it's still me but i'm having a hard time
16:05figuring out exactly what i want to do
16:16there's some pen but it's just be careful it's perfect actually turn around it's like feminine
16:22and masculine mixed with each other he is the sewing wizard all of a sudden he's patterning and then you
16:28turn around and he's got a dress and then you turn around again and the dress is done the dress you're
16:33making is insane i think it's cool bikini magic my model was like how did you do that i'm like i don't
16:40know dude come here for a second sandy come here i should have sold it for hand stitch this the leather
16:48to the lace hand stitch with hand stitching it'll come out more finished okay this design isn't anything
16:54like i had in my head the construction isn't going in a direction i thought it would i'm overwhelmed i'm
17:00struggling to try to just finish my garment okay guys it's 11 it's time to go i just put myself in a
17:09very bad position coming up on project runway this is definitely a make it work moment is anyone going
17:18to follow me i'm freaking out
17:20so you still have a lot of work to finish up yeah yeah me too hopefully it'll
17:35work out today because if we're in the bottom then i'm the one that's gonna go home
17:39why do you say that because it's true so i asked karina this morning what am i doing that's like
17:48getting under your skin whatever whatever did you get answered no karina was like i don't want
17:54to talk about it because we're in a group so that's that like done i'm done now done
18:09so this morning i have to attach the shoulders to the back i have to still find a way to make the
18:19leather kind of form fitted on her bus attach a zipper cover up the imperfections of the leather

18:56in the last few years i've been pursuing a menswear career the tailoring and the twist of menswear
19:02really shows through in this garment shauna you almost done with the pant
19:06yes i've got like one two three more plates to sew down it's a pair of pants it doesn't take that long
19:17how's that pant coming along what sean is still working on the pant he's not going to be done
19:23for a while so i decided to just take on the top and finish it for him he has immunity so he could send
19:29down a topless model with pants on and still move on to the next level there's another team challenge
19:35i'm just gonna be like i'm out peace deuces
19:41so we're gonna do the ceremony look and i wanted to look this really classic and beautiful it's my
19:46favorite color really red for mary kai super 60s graphic dress lots of lashes a strong contour line
19:56right in the center i love it so i was thinking like really light pink speechy lips sun kiss just
20:04mary k at play a little bit right on the side beautiful beautiful i have the reception look
20:10so it's the party look i wanted to split the hair down the middle maybe have it a little bit more
20:14flattened but then volume on the bottom so just more modern right okay perfect
20:19she's gonna have like a lace hood that's coming over like a veil and then pull it back so like a coffee
20:25bride yeah loose curl and just pulled back effortlessly with a bun and a back bun yes okay great
20:40sandhya's dress looks like a corn cob after you eat the corn and what's left of the cob
20:46that's what sandhya's top of her dress looks like and i don't know what she's going for with that
20:52so romantic yeah that was the idea how it is i'm using up every second that i have this is
21:02definitely a make it work moment like i'm freaking out and then we are going to get the pants on
21:09john's pant fit amazing i mean he worked on it long enough the top is fitting perfectly too because i got to
21:16finish it before she came everything is working out exactly how we want it to look designers and
21:22models let's head down to the runway all right is anyone going to follow me i'm still literally
21:29stitching when tim calls for the models to go to the runway let's go everyone

21:39coming up on project runway i don't think elvira would even wear this oh it's overwhelming to me
21:48it's an epic fail it's like a toilet paper accident it's very scary no bueno no bueno
21:54hello designers welcome to the runway as you know in fashion one day you're in and the next day
22:12you're out there are ten of you here and after tonight there will be nine for this challenge you
22:17worked in teams of two we asked you to create an alternative wedding look and a second look for the
22:23reception sean you have immunity for this challenge and you cannot be eliminated today let's say hello
22:29to our judges first we have acclaimed fashion designer zach posen hello designers hi creative
22:36director for marie clara magazine nina garcia hi everyone star burlesque performer and designer of
22:42her own lingerie line dita fantis hello welcome and top style blogger also known as the blonde salad
22:51kiara ferrani hi guys bye bye and we have tim gun here for the runway show as you know he is your
22:57mentor and he will not be judging your look he does get one tim gun save each season which allows him to
23:04bring back an eliminated designer if he disagrees for the judges all right let's start the show
23:09the volume of the ruffle looks perfect to me the structure of her jacket fits her perfect i'm happy i
23:24cut the hem up shorter to make it knee length it looks more sophisticated and classy
23:28the top flows and floats behind her beautifully and the pants are sharp crisp and they look really
23:43well finished and expensive
23:48the color story and the silhouettes and the masculine elements of mine and keeney's work
23:54really really play to our strengths yes i love the look it's something completely different than what
24:09i've done i was a little concerned that it might look a little top heavy but it didn't read that way at all
24:24i think that sam and i's looks are the most cohesive it was definitely the same woman
24:43the fabric choice was perfect the way it catches the light is exactly what i wanted it to do
24:59good i love that
25:01it's insane
25:02and it moves a little dress is super cute it's super me i would totally wear it i know lots of girls
25:16that would totally wear it and i'm really comfortable with them the two looks look great together they look
25:24chic they look modern they're different from everybody else's but i think that's a good thing
25:32i feel like my design in relation to the others is a lot darker but i think that it's one of the more
25:45more artistic different ones
25:50you still see the hair on the back so that's good
26:02if you get a close-up look you go oh it's actually cut and oh it's actually lace and there's some printing on it and it is exactly what i like to do in fashion
26:15i can see it's a little unfinished my draping is not one of my strengths i have gone for something
26:34different this time but i have not been able to finish it to the level that it needs to be finished
26:39so that's one of my concerns
26:50i didn't get a chance to finish my look all the things that make for a good design i totally ignored
26:56this is not one of my proudest moments as a designer
27:15designers we're going to talk to four teams today that means that one team is safe amanda and karina
27:23congratulations your scores have qualified you to move on to the next round you can leave the runway thank you

28:03tell us about your looks and your bride well our bride was a introverted artistic type and she decided to
28:10run away from it all so she ends up in japan where she finally breaks out of her shell and it allows
28:16her to meet the man of her dreams or the corpse of her dreams i don't think elvira would even wear
28:22this i had a gothic wedding but it's kind of like a parody i'm having a hard time not laughing a little
28:28bit it's very cliche can you tell us who did what i did this one i did the bride yes i actually like both
28:37looks a lot it is goth and it is funerial a bit instead of wedding now the party dress i feel like
28:44could have been a little bit sexier i really love how it looks almost like it was painted i think that's
28:50very well done i mean you created your own pattern thank you very much can i see her without the hood
28:56please i actually don't mind this very dramatic reveal but i do think that the sleeves are over
29:06powering her i kind of like the long dress i think it would look amazing on some fashion editorials
29:13thank you emily thank you faith thank you kimi and sean um we decided for our untraditional wedding
29:21it was going to be a gay marriage and she's a very strong confident woman she's a corporate girl
29:28she can't get out of a suit that's her comfort zone and we wanted to play off of that so i created
29:35this dress the ceremony and i just wanted to do something tailored on the top and more feminine
29:41on the bottom and then i did the reception which was she's getting out of this couture kind of number
29:47and getting more loose and she's wearing a tuxedo pant and that's where we went to on the wedding
29:54you guys did an incredible job this was the best of the best for me on the runway and i think this is
29:59the dream team it is a very good play on masculine feminine sean your girl seems effortless i think
30:12kenny your girl the appendage might be a little overpowering like she's the flamenco dancer and
30:19this is the bullfighter ole the clothes look impeccable and this blouse when it walks on the runway
30:25it was gorgeous it was definitely my favorite i rarely wear pants but when i do they have to be
30:31exactly like that high waist you know classic i loved it i would wear both of these outfits thank you
30:36keeney thank you sean sandy and charquita tell us about your looks our bride is a rock star's daughter
30:44she's kind of rebellious a little outside of the box when she dresses so we wanted to do color we
30:49wanted to do something really flirty girly and a little different so i did the wedding dress which
30:55was soft and flowy it had a little airy feel to it and char did the reception dress which has movement
31:03to it so when she dances you know she can twirl and enjoy herself so that was the idea behind it
31:09this is a shocker to me it's an epic fail i don't even know where to start i think there was too many
31:17ideas here but really my takeaway was big bird and tweety bird but i thought as soon as i came out i
31:24thought okay there's some reason a bride would choose this color she's like a lemon heiress i was just
31:30waiting for some big story and then there wasn't one sandia you worked so hard on making this bustier
31:35but then it looks like you have a bed sheet just crumpled up and shoved under this it is just not
31:42cool and then yours is like a bunch of scraps sewn together it looks like bits leftover pieces that
31:49you just kind of shoved under this leather it's crooked on the top and just the way you attach those
31:55scraps under that it's like a toilet paper accident i mean it is crazy it's hard and the longer they
32:02stand there the worse they can yeah the yellow is sort of hurting my eyes too thank you shakita thank

32:14samantha okay so for our bride we were really inspired by the idea of a new juliet but a little
32:20sexier but not too revealing yeah so it's kind of like the juliet goes vamp so we chose the oxblood
32:27color which fit the occasion i did the reception look and i stuck to one color so it wouldn't overpower
32:32the bride i think you suffered from the same ailment as the yellow only for you guys it was all this
32:42embellishment the feathers the lace you just threw everything in there it's overwhelming
32:50to me the wedding dress looks a little bit like two dresses stuck on top of each other the lace is
32:55quite beautiful but then when you stick all of this on top it's not super flattering the jarring part
33:01to me is that you've tried to create an organic texture and then she has a seam like a glaring seam
33:08through the skirt it's borderline cheesy too it's a little cheapy feeling and it could be cheapy
33:14chickey this is not yes hashtag throwback thursday the 80s are back i do think the reception dress might
33:24be a little bit better but not by much i don't really like the short one i think it's like too
33:30transparent too tight i love burgundy lace but i would never think of white and burgundy going together at
33:37all i'm not seeing originality of design here thank you samantha thank you alexander thank you

34:55hi tim hello let's start with big bird and tweety bird let's go into this guys
35:05that's just bad did you look under this no i don't care no no no look how this has been put together
35:11oh my word what did she spend her time doing because this is not even something that is time consuming
35:18with this i almost think well she spent all the time braiding this knots or whatever it is that
35:23she has on top and that she ran out of time and then she you know draped everything what is this
35:31i don't a bad day wow it's like i made it look at that it looks like something if i had like a wild
35:37party at my house and i had like a craft table out and said hey let's just make dresses yeah it's bad
35:43it's really sad because she's such an interesting hand with textiles but as a design there's not much
35:49redeeming there it's making me question her as a designer they both are really bad
35:57emily and fade i want to be a bride
36:02i do love fades i have to say have a look at what he's done i think that's nice i'm with you yeah it's
36:08really beautiful and it's very feminine he painted this he put the lace on it i mean he
36:15created like a real beautiful yeah it's pretty and the bride i don't mind either they just don't go
36:20together they don't at all and that's like a parody of a god i kind of like like the long one i think
36:27it's like the kind of dress that will look good in photos but in real life it's hard to make it work
36:32alexander samantha eesh don't think so about the short dress it's too short too tight and too
36:45transparent and i don't like the feather detail on the shoulder i'm surprised that you took the time
36:52i know to dip a dark color to try to give an ombre here it does look like gigantic red wine stain on it
36:58i feel like i've seen that mini dress before at like rock and roll weddings this is not a problem
37:05this is the bigger problem you're right but is that a matter of execution or taste i think taste
37:11it's okay and you know what's so sad tim is that that lace is actually beautiful so it's almost like
37:19negating the beautiful lace and let's put all this stuff on it stuff on it to hide it
37:28so we need to decide who wins this challenge and it is clearly between keeney and sean i want to
37:35wear that one yeah the white shirt it's beautiful really with a tuxedo pant but i also love the
37:42wedding dress he's fast it's amazing what he can do in one day it really is these two made a wonderful
37:52teams like the yin and yang exactly i just love them to me i would think that this is what being a
37:58designer is about okay so we've made our decision all right let's bring them back out
