00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03This is an unconventional challenge.
00:05You will be using the array of movie experience items
00:07found in this theater,
00:09and the designers you were sitting with
00:11are your teammates.
00:12Action!
00:14I think villains are for cinema.
00:16Does it have to be villains?
00:18Angela seems to be not very flexible.
00:21I'm not hearing team in any of this.
00:22No cohesion.
00:23This seems to me,
00:24if it doesn't work,
00:25you have to follow what are we doing right now.
00:28Okay, I'm being picked on really bad.
00:30Oh, dear.
00:31You have such a strong voice as a designer.
00:40Your team has the higher scores.
00:43Your collection felt like the most original.
00:45Amanda, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:48That also means you have immunity for the next challenge
00:50and it cannot be eliminated.
00:52Sean and Fade, we really loved your looks.
00:55Angela, we did not like your look.
00:57And that brought your whole team down.
01:00Hernan, Sandhya, and Carrie,
01:03you have the lower scores.
01:04I mean, the shapes are like a mess.
01:06You made three of the same dresses.
01:08Sonya, you are very lucky that you are immune
01:12because yours is the worst out of all three.
01:15Carrie, you're out.
01:17Afido zi.
01:19How does it feel to be back from the last challenge?
01:31How does it feel to be back from the last challenge?
01:36I feel very bad for Carrie because we really like her a lot.
01:38If Sandhya didn't have her immunity, would you think she would go?
01:39Yeah.
01:40Sandhya didn't try to push herself a little bit more.
01:42I think because she was safe.
01:43Angela, she's only here today because of us.
01:45This group is definitely intimidating.
01:46I came in here expecting myself to do well, and I'm not.
01:50I...I'm a good designer, I know that.
02:01I'm just gonna try my best since I was given another chance.
02:03So maybe they do believe me in me a little bit.
02:07I'm a good designer.
02:09I know that.
02:10I'm just gonna try my best since I was given another chance.
02:13So maybe they do believe me in me a little bit.
02:15It's not an important designer.
02:16So maybe they do believe me in me a little bit.
02:26Oh my god, Marie Claire covers above the runway.
02:30So exciting.
02:31Good morning, designers.
02:33Good morning.
02:34How is everyone this morning?
02:35Good.
02:36Awesome.
02:37That's what I like to hear.
02:38Good.
02:39Well, you may be wondering what's going on.
02:42Here to tell you more is a great friend of Project Runway.
02:45I'm delighted to welcome the Editor-in-Chief of Marie Claire Magazine, Ann Full & Wider.
02:50Hi.
02:51Hi, Tim.
02:52How are you?
02:53Thank you for being with us again.
02:54Thank you so much for having me.
02:56Hello, designers.
02:57Hi.
02:58Designers, Ann is here to tell you about a challenge that has been 20 years in the making.
03:03This year, Marie Claire is thrilled to be celebrating our 20-year anniversary.
03:07Wow.
03:08That's right.
03:09Our debut issue was published in 1994.
03:11Ann, I want to ask you a very sincere question.
03:14Do you remember what you were wearing in 1994?
03:16I was very into grunge.
03:18No!
03:19Which actually has been making a comeback in recent years.
03:22I know.
03:24Well, designers, Marie Claire knows current fashion.
03:28What I want to know is what you think the future of fashion looks like.
03:31So, designers, your challenge is to be inspired by your past to create a look that would appear in the pages of Marie Claire in the future.
03:3920 years in the future, to be precise.
03:422034.
03:43You can be inspired by a memory, by a feeling, by a place.
03:47It's completely up to you.
03:49What we want to see is what the future of fashion looks like as filtered through your design aesthetic.
03:55Designers, this is a one-day challenge, all right?
03:58So, we'll have 30 minutes to sketch, and then we're making our first trip to Mood.
04:02Oh, my gosh.
04:03We finally get to go to Mood and choose fabrics that we want.
04:10Good luck, designers, and I can't wait to see your designs.
04:13All right, grab your sketchbooks and begin.
04:15There would be a lot of recycling done after 20 years, so I'm planning on making a semi-fitted straight-shaped dress with metallic embellishments seemed.
04:31So, the embellishments are how I could embellish stuff with the industrial waste, which is recycled.
04:38That's the inspiration for me.
04:39The memory I'm drawing from is when I was working at Wall Street for about seven years in New York.
04:45I don't think everyone in the design world realizes how restrictive the clothing is.
04:49I really would like to change that, so I'm creating an updated blazer.
04:53I had this idea of a one-sided lapel.
04:56I'm excited to do it.
04:57It's a lot of work, though, so I have to use my time well.
05:01So, my inspiration for the challenge was a design that I created in the 90s.
05:06It was called the Ewok Hoodie.
05:09In the 90s, it was really kind of popular to make things that converted into other things.
05:14So, I'm thinking, you know, the hood would unattach with snap tape, and she could quickly convert it into a purse.
05:23All right, designers, time is up.
05:27Let's head off to Mood.
05:29Designers, welcome to Mood.
05:34So, you each have your $200 budget.
05:37So, your 45 minutes begins right now.
05:41The future.
05:42The future.
05:43My vision for the future is it's going to be cluttered, and there's going to be a lot more people and congestion.
05:49So, people are going to dress a lot cleaner and simpler, and eliminate clutter from their lives via their clothing.
05:59What I'm taking from the past is the FDM blankets that my mom used to wrap around us when we were little kids.
06:04The other inspiration for my look is my mother being a single mother, and just that, like, kind of like a warrior woman.
06:12I think this could be my challenge, just because I feel like my inspiration is so strong, and I feel like that's going to translate in my design.
06:19Designers, in one minute, everyone needs to be checking out, all right?
06:25One minute, everyone.
06:30Is there anyone else around?
06:32Time is up.
06:34All shopping must stop.
06:39Thank you so much.
06:40Awesome.
06:41All right, designers.
06:42Let's head back to the work room.
06:43All right.
06:44Thanks, Mood.
06:47Oh, my God!
06:52That is so funny.
07:09Oh!
07:10Oh, my God!
07:12Oh, my God!
07:14Ninety-four.
07:15we walk into the workroom there are pictures of all of us from 1994 it's absolutely hilarious
07:33Amanda I made my dress in that picture I remember that day I was jamming with my brother in the
07:41basement we're just laying down some sweet tunes look at Alexander with that little hair I'm two
07:47years old at this point in 1994 I'm one of the only ones that has a baby picture that is so funny oh
07:55my gosh Metro you look like you should be like a full house or something oh my god this is so
08:00embarrassing Karina with your career matching hat and jump right now is the 20th anniversary of Marie
08:23player magazine our challenge is to design a look for 20 years from now which is 2034 inspired by 20
08:34years in the past which is 1994 the top's gonna be like this but I'm gonna pattern it so the stripes
08:43but it's alternating fancy oh and you found what you're joking my Afghan rug I feel like I'm doing
08:50really well I'm pushing myself that's part of the reason that I chose the unexpected material of the
08:55chunky knit that is going to be the bottom half of the dress by no means though do I want to just play
09:00it safe and just be the safe designer it's tough you're real quiet today I'm concentrating I know you
09:14so everything's working out really well two hours into the challenge I have already made my dress the
09:20entire look is inspired by strong women pink is such a soft fabric but then softness does not mean weakness
09:29it means a lot of strength to me and if I cannot be a strong person I should just eat my words up I
09:35shouldn't even be talking about it hi everyone actually you look very far along I'm impressed good
09:46because I'm here to check in with you how are you Shawn I'm good thank you so tell me about your future
09:52my future is a more minimalist future because I think in the future it's gonna get so cluttered and
09:58it's gonna be a jacket and it has a sleeve but it has like a slight volume to it I just need to
10:04press it out at the end if it crinkles at all I think it gets cheap so that's just my challenge
10:09kind of just sew as perfectly as I can just to get the crispness and the cleanness I know and tell
10:15your model not to move yeah exactly you don't want it to be all wrinkled it's very chic and
10:20sophisticated okay thank you hi Angela hi Tim so what does the future look like to you so I'm putting
10:29into the story of the past of my life on Wall Street in the corporate world fashion really
10:36doesn't change so what I'm doing is like an alternative take on a blazer which is a one-sided lapel
10:43so what have you done so far I'm just about to sew
10:46I'm gonna start out first just doing the jacket well how long is the jacket I don't know I just you
10:54can't just send a jacket down the runway do you think it's too basic or anything this is your vision
10:59and your design and your world from what I'm seeing in the sketch I don't think it's too basic no it's
11:04all about the jacket when I was a child I liked Clueless a lot I love Clueless and I still do today so
11:13it's kind of playing with that whole like the crop tops and the skirt and then kind of melding it with
11:18brunch and they're kind of opposite of each other well and on the sleeves there's gonna be this one strap
11:24and then floating straps like straps that are like this it's very prim yeah keep your eye on the coat
11:31tomorrow if you're on the runway just exude unconditional confidence I'm doing this center
11:38part where I will do a three-dimensional technique on it what is it it's going to be these cutouts and
11:44then it's going to be a little elevated mm-hmm and is it sewn into the dress it's going to be a part of
11:52the dress also I've got a lot of safety pins I intend to do like a stripe with them or like I have
11:59a black chain as well so use like industrial recycled material where would you use the safety pins on
12:05the sides like maybe if I want to do like a fringe of a safety pin or if I want to connect it here with
12:11my garment and then go have a stripe Sandhya Sandhya I just don't get Sandhya's look and I think she's
12:19gonna be in trouble you use the word industrial that's how it strikes me too I'm just concerned
12:26whether it's going to actually appear to be fully integrated into the rest of the work that you're
12:31doing or whether it's just going to look like a non sequitur if you're aiming for high fashion this
12:36looks gimmicky so tell me about the future I am assuming that 20 years from now okay we're going
12:43to be even busier than we are now mm-hmm so I like the idea of kind of a uniform or efficient dressing
12:50okay this kind of acts as a bra but really it's clothing and this is quick and easy yeah and also
12:57it's interchangeable I love separates I prefer them over yeah everything else this gives you many more
13:03options yeah I think so too over this I'm going to do a sheer tunic Alexander hi Tom hi what are you
13:11doing right now I'm constructing the top of the dress I want it to look like it's two separate pieces but
13:17it's like it is just going to be a dress why do you want it to look like two separate pieces the top
13:21texture is so different from the bottom and that's exactly how I envision this what is the bottom yes
13:28okay isn't making it one piece more difficult I don't know ah the bobbin just don't go out like that
13:47you can zip that up for me I'm going to put the snap clip on the side I just want to give you all my clothes you look so
14:05amazing in there now turn to the side my design is proving to be a little more challenging than I thought it was going to be
14:11but I don't want it okay I'm starting to panic a little bit because as I'm trying it on the model
14:17my model has some bigger Chi Chi's than the rest of the models and immediately it looks like I gave my
14:23model a uni boob she literally looked like she just had one big boob in the middle of her chest I began
14:29to freak out a little bit because it was like I either send out the uni boob top and risk being in the
14:34bottom or I totally revamp what I'm doing and send something out there that I would be able to defend
14:40oh that's probably deep right that fits like really crucial since it's a jumpsuit yeah I feel
14:49super excited and super confident about this challenge I have game plan and I'm going to make
14:56it work I like the whole it makes me happy here's the future for you I predict everyone's boob morphing
15:08into one I had just enough leather to do a harness style top piece on the dress and then I used the
15:15knit fabric as the bottom of the dress trying to get these two attached to each other I'm nervous about
15:20do you have enough leather okay that's good I think Alexander could be in a little bit of trouble
15:27if he doesn't work fast coming up on project runway two hours goes by really fast I'm sweating right
15:35now his luck is bell-bound Angela's kind of irritating to everybody as well as me
15:40good morning everyone I'm going to be sending in your models soon you will have two
16:05hours to send them to the Philip B hair studio and the Mary Kay color design studio and when you
16:11are using the Aldo styling wall be very thoughtful about your decisions all right okay it's all about
16:18the future yeah all right thank you I've never ever wanted to have to scrap an idea at the last possible
16:31moment holy I'm sweating right now if I didn't scrap my old idea I don't know if I would have something to send
16:38down the runway I want something that could be modern 20 years from now that says to me a berry lip so I
17:00kind of want to play up with like a sheer white eyeshadow I think the lips will have like this
17:04really graphic quality and I want it to be a strong contrast oh I love it I just want to do like a
17:10really strong ruby red matte lip dark smoky eye we could pop that smoke with some of that he's my best
17:17I trust your instincts yeah it's so many little things I'm thinking that I like to do I decide
17:32since all of my work on my garments has been done I wanted to make a hat I'm pulling apart the mood bag
17:38because I have to interface the hat with something and it just so happens that the fabric of the mood
17:43bag is a perfect match thank you this is a risk but I wanted to push myself let's go get it done
17:51I see Angela running sorry she doesn't even see if she's going the right way anyone got the left
18:03right foot Angela stresses me out it's just always high anxiety and it's kind of irritating to everybody
18:13as well as me Angela we all know when you're coming in because you have that heavy foot yeah no
18:18it's my sandals my feet are really thin I think I might look frantic to the other people but that's
18:24just me I just need to keep working and try to redeem myself from the previous two challenges
18:28hold on to it here I just want to make sure I get this right I'm confused by Sandia I can't decide
18:40whether she's just experimenting and taking these risks or she really doesn't know what she's doing
18:46that looks good hello welcome back to the Philip B salon I wanted it to be a timeless but also kind
18:54of have it like an edge to it let's take it all back keep it off her face and we'll nod it love it so
19:00she's gonna be wearing a cowl next thing over it and then rip it off so she has to have her hair back so
19:05just back and then something interesting yeah yeah I'm thinking just a simple part in the middle and
19:11then just super straight straight down very minimal very minimal straight yeah center part center part
19:15yeah it looks awesome oh yeah that's great I'm proud as hell that I knocked this look out given the time
19:27crunch and scrapping my old idea I do have a lot to prove just because I'm so young it's super important
19:34for me to show the judges that I am a strong designer designers in 10 minutes you and your
19:39models and I are going down to the runway all right 10 minutes everybody thank you
19:43I like it good to go Christine hits this grunge 90s pop fashion she is on the money for that keep it
19:56on for a second and then take it off so I think she could be in the top but I am confident in everything
20:01I have done so we'll see on the runway designers and models we are taking the future to the runway right
20:11now follow me please Mitchell Charquita oh what's up

23:17do and it feels me I think it's chic I think it's simple I think it's not too costuming I feel good
23:24about it I think I did what I set out to do it looks clean it looks polished I didn't over complicated
23:37it's not obvious I think it's a good design

26:43Amanda
26:44Kini
26:45Kimi
26:58Kini
27:00Kini
27:01Kini
27:02Kini
27:03Kini
27:04or none
27:06if I have called your name congratulations your scores have qualified you to move on to the next
27:13round you can leave the runway but before you leave Amanda you are very very lucky that you
27:24have immunity none of the judges liked your look today not one it was no bueno okay you
27:31all can leave the runway thank you the six of you have the highest and the lowest scores one of you
27:42will be named the winner and one of you will be out all right let's bring out your models
27:55Angela tell us about your look and your inspiration my last seven years of working in corporate finance
28:05I wanted to do an updated suit that's for 20 years later and I played with the idea of a one-sided
28:12lapel Zach what do you think I sort of you know felt like it was some shortness from the future
28:19and I'd be afraid to get on her plane I am always looking for a modern fresh take on a suit but I
28:26think it's too short for many workplaces I don't think that the lapel works it kind of looks like
28:32a tie it didn't really work the color is very boring we're going 20 years into the future I don't think
28:39he took it far enough Houston we have a problem it looks like a jacket without sleeves and the cut is
28:47a little sloppy Sandia tell us about your inspiration I took inspiration from strong women and 20 years
28:55ago we were copying menswear to show that we are strong but as we progress 20 years ahead we will be
29:02so confident in ourselves that we won't need any detail from menswear to show that we are strong I
29:07think it's beautiful I like your choice of color because as we see it standing here this is very
29:15refreshing it's a very editorial look it's going to be stimulating for our readers it's an incredibly
29:22brave move and a very bold statement on my part I did not give you a high score for me it was a little
29:30too comical it's weird in a good way yeah what did you make the technique out of um fake leather put
29:37it on the dress woman like molded them as I was stitching well done thank you thank you Sandia thank
29:42you Emily tell us about your inspiration and your look well I took my inspiration from a design that I
29:49created in the 90s which I called the Ewok hoodie for the Mary Claire woman of the future I think it
29:55should be more of a like a really cool accessory that she can like throw on at night to look really
30:00cool I chose to do the jumpsuit because it's really easy to wear I like your mixture of texture
30:06and I did love the reveal you know will you please take this off so we can have a look at the jumpsuit
30:10yeah this is stunning especially the back that is just BAM it's just really really hot looking good
30:18yeah this was your best work I've seen so far I was really impressed it felt today and it felt
30:25tomorrow I think you did a great job thank you so much to be honest with you it was not one of my
30:31favorite looks but she looked very powerful and I like the simple design thank you Emily thank you
30:39Alexander tell us about your inspiration and he'll look I was raised by my mom who was a single mom and a
30:45very strong woman so I wanted to take that and then I also wanted to take in the aspect of mixing textures
30:52and using the leather in there too because I felt like the leather is a timeless thing Alexander I mean
30:58it is an old rag it looks like an old blanket whatever it is I don't want to wear it now and I don't want
31:06to wear it 20 years from now oh us for words she looks like she's coming from the planet of the apes
31:12and she's one of the apes it makes the future look pretty dark and sad and I want to be happy for the
31:18pages of Mary Claire in 20 years when we're talking about an editorial for a magazine this is very hard
31:26to shoot I've been off more than I could chew it was in the last hour so I wanted to make something
31:32that I was proud to show so this really wasn't your intention no okay thank you that makes me feel better
31:40me too thank you Alexander thank you Christine tell us about your look and your inspiration my woman
31:46is a intelligent chic fashion forward woman as I'm older I have a great appreciation for grunge as well
31:53so a little bit of hardness but still yet making it kind of a feminine shape to the jacket I love this
31:59outfit there is such a nice juxtaposition between the army green and the purity of the white the slits feel
32:06very fresh can you take off the jacket please I would love to see it on the pages of the magazine this is
32:12my favorite look it's super sexy even though she's not showing that much skin it looks like something
32:19from the future but not in a comical weird kind of a way it looks like what's in fashion today I want to see more
32:27from you that's beyond a 90s grunge reference that's very for me passe I love that it is so complex and
32:34yet the overall message of it is simplicity it's very very Marie Claire thank you I didn't love the
32:41jacket so much but overall this is a chic piece thank you Sean tell us about your inspiration and your look
32:49my inspiration came from the idea of the future and everything's gonna be clean and modern purely out of the
32:55idea that the world around us will be cluttered seeing this from you today is very very disappointing it is beyond
33:02wrinkly this dress underneath I mean even the back that slit is beyond high you could do well by getting rid of the hat I like the hat when I saw this outfit I thought it was like Mary Poppins went shopping at Prada there's some balance of
33:10sophistication in here personally I don't think it's that bad it's a turtleneck black dress what's the future reference here the future reference is in the textile it looks like a fabric that has high sheen I love you made your hat though thank you I don't I was expecting the matrix and we got Mary Poppins I am so sorry there's really nothing
33:28creative in terms of design okay we've heard what you had to say we're going to take a closer look at your clothes have a little chat and then I'm going to call you back on the runway thank you

34:46hello Heidi hi judges may we start with the team on the bottom yeah yes Rachel is wearing Angela she's getting more and more sad looking in so
34:56look at the skirt it's really sloppy seconds from the choice of fabric to the choice of color even if it would fit her better it's still sad and blonde
35:05this I don't even know what to say I love a black dress I've seen a hundred better than that
35:15he clearly has a sophisticated eye I just think that he dialed it in on this design
35:20and here's Nea can you clean the runway we can keep this as a mop afterwards
35:30Jasmine you can step forward I'm gonna have to touch this touch it I could see that she's really been a working professional for a long time I agree with you reminds me of those kind of bomber jackets that everyone used to wear
35:44with the zipper that opened yeah well that is exactly the problem that I have it just doesn't feel new
35:52DJ that I love so I think it was a really effective outfit and choice because she used neoprene she was able just to cut right into this not have to finish it frankly like very good use of time this is effective yeah it was strategic
36:06Elisar come on up she was very articulate I love her reason this is what she intended to make and she made it it's not the most revolutionary dress but the effect is cool and it's color and that's what it's about I agree and she took a big risk
