01:58Good morning, designers, and welcome to Michael Kors' gorgeous
02:01flagship lifestyle store.
02:03And we're so thrilled to be here.
02:05Hi, designers.
02:06Welcome to my brand new store here on Madison Avenue in New York City.
02:10Michael Kors' flagship store is stunning.
02:13It's a beautiful space.
02:14I am immediately inspired by the Michael Kors store.
02:18This is my dream.
02:19I just want to be able to eventually start my own line.
02:22Designers, before we get into the particulars of the challenge, though,
02:25we need to talk about a few things.
02:27One is Andrea.
02:29She left the Atlas Apartments in the middle of the night,
02:32unbeknownst to any of us.
02:34We've reached out to her.
02:35We've not been able to contact her.
02:36But we have every reason to believe that she is safe and sound.
02:40This is a challenging experience for all of you.
02:44This is a challenging industry.
02:46I've been at this now for over 30 years.
02:48It's still tough.
02:50Yes.
02:51When Heidi says one day you're in and one day you're out, that is fashion.
02:54The fashion industry is a shark.
02:56If you can't handle it, then maybe you shouldn't be in this industry because that's the way it is.
03:01Fashion is not for sissies.
03:03No.
03:04I think some people think it is, but it's not.
03:06You may be knocked around a bit, but you've got to bounce back.
03:10So are you ready for the next challenge?
03:12Yes.
03:13It's a great one.
03:14Well, Michael, I'd love for you to tell the designers about your customer.
03:17Well, you know, as you guys know, a modern woman today is on the go.
03:22And my clients are always looking for that sort of very chic, pulled together, but stylish look.
03:28But at the same time, they want something that's easy and relaxed.
03:32This woman needs to really have versatility.
03:34She needs to be able to hop on a plane for a meeting and then go right to a cocktail party when she arrives.
03:40So this is a challenge about a woman on the go.
03:44And for this challenge, you will be designing a look that represents your own aesthetic, who you are as a designer.
03:50And you're going to be creating a single look that is stylish and fashionable.
03:55At the same time, it has versatility, it's practical, and it's comfortable.
04:00I don't believe we've ever had a challenge where textiles were ever more important than they are right now.
04:05Would you agree, Michael?
04:06Listen, this one, it's got to last through the entire day.
04:09Yeah, think about wrinkles and the fact that you don't want them.
04:12Whatever you do, it's got to be your aesthetic.
04:15Exactly.
04:16This is a great opportunity to show ourselves as a designer in a group challenge.
04:21My point of view got lost, so I'm happy to take a bit more control this time.
04:26So designers, you will have a budget of $150, and you will have one day for this challenge.

05:07I picture my woman working at like an ad agency, maybe.
05:12I want her to wear kind of a maybe jersey knit dress that's long sleeve, goes to the knee, and then her to have a skirt that's dressier for when she needs to go to work.
05:23I'm designing grey jersey dress and putting some leather mosaic details on it, so my outfit works for lunch and dinner.
05:33My customer is a very avant-garde, high fashion kind of girl, so I am thinking about like a black and white print with a black jacket, like something that is very me.
05:42My girl is somebody who works in nightlife, travels a lot, so she needs to be able to move easily, and she's a people person, so she has to look fun as well.

11:05so no wrinkles so what a day huh how is everybody good you look like you're in good shape how's
11:13dimitri doing i'm pretty good it's a one piece basically and then i just cut around and just fold
11:20and dark things in remarkable sanji how are you i think i'm good i feel good i think you're good
11:28too i'm working on some of the details i'm gonna give her a sleeve you are one slave or two two and
11:34is this effect going to remain yes but i'm gonna trim it in here so it doesn't look so like gownish
11:41yeah because i think that also limits how versatile it can be as michael was really stressing the word
11:47versatility exactly carry on thank you how are you fabio i'm good tim how are you i'm great i love
11:54this print i wanted to do something that was like very structured but then the movement is on the
11:58direction of the print yeah but the whole idea is um my girl is on a day off oh she's just on a leisure
12:04day so she's gonna wear something that is a bit more relaxed and fashion forward she's be careful
12:09though i don't want that to be one of those no no no no she's still classy the beauty of the dress is
12:15really the cut and this is a cashmere and i'm actually going to use the zipper along the seam
12:23i'm certainly fascinated my skirt i'm like on the fence about i was doing different squared panels
12:30coming down i just want you to be cognizant of not over designing this right i don't like gunner's
12:39piece at all i think his skirt looks like it's felt i just don't know who's going anywhere in a felt
12:44good i want this outfit to be wearable with sneakers or with high heels how will you respond
12:49to the judges if they say to you elena we've seen the silhouette from you before we've seen this coat
12:55from you before and how are you buffy i think i'm good you think no i feel really really good so i'd
13:03love to hear what you're doing okay it's a jersey dress that's kind of got like a tulip shaped skirt at
13:08the bottom it's multifunctional it's a bit longer so you can like wear it over a dress and change it
13:15up if you are traveling can i ask you this though yeah it's scaring me no no no no given the fabulousness
13:22of this circle top do you really have to do all that design with this print underneath i mean do you
13:30need the tulip this is the star player and once you introduce the tulip skirt you've got a competitor
13:35so how are you doing i'm doing well you look like you're doing well yeah i wanted to make something
13:41basic underneath out of this i want it to be turtlenecky it's feeling dressy you just need
13:52to toughen this up a little my customer is the mom on the go can i be blunt it looks sad yeah so i'm doing
14:01a pair of long shorts and a woven top watch the proportion you want there to be some difference
14:07in the two okay i'm making a hoodie out of a heavier knit we have a long sleeve t we have another tank
14:13that's going underneath with the long leggings so lots of layering lots of layering so how's it feel
14:18to be back raoul awesome good i'm so excited it's awesome to have you back so talk to me about what
14:24you're designing so basically i'm going to be a suit um and a drape shirt and there's a lot to play with
14:29you know yeah but that that's both a blessing and it can be a curse i think raoul has no point of view
14:34to be honest because everything he does is just a mess he needs to go home again you need to really
14:40nail soon what it is you want to do all right designers i am going to leave you for the evening
14:46your models will be in a little later for a fitting and i will see you tomorrow okay good night everybody

15:39really really tough it's been very hard to focus on work my dress is looking really shoddy and badly
15:46put together all i can think about is how i'm going to finish this on time there's a lot more
15:52that needs to be done to this garment i still haven't even sewn the thing together ah it's it's really
15:56stressful i'm just trying to think about all the stuff that i need to do today and i'm like freaking
16:10out okay i feel so sad last night coming home and why not being here well no people ready okay let's

17:51i want it to be back a tight bun very very tight with the kind of loosey kind of bun thing to the back
18:13mm-hmm i was thinking for the eyes like an inverted cat eyes a little bit of shimmer they have really
18:19nice bright coral lips i love a purple color on the lip yeah i would say a matte red lip and she owns the
18:25world it's great has anybody got a pink bobbin i don't normally work with jersey or chiffon and i really did not
18:40expect to be in this position i just hope these pants fit i don't have time to fix them at this
18:45point i had to you know switch the design a little bit and add you know leather angles on the pants
18:52designers in 10 minutes you and your models and i are going down to the runway 10 minutes everybody
18:58i wish i could have gotten more done on the draping of the vest but you know it is what it is and i just
19:03want to get this look finished designers and models we're going down to the runway all right so everyone
19:08follow me please let's go i'm worried about the accessories because i didn't even think about
19:15if it will look good or not i used a little belt i need a purse i need some shoes i needed something

19:58raul welcome back it sounds like yesterday was quite a day andrea and kuan both left the competition
20:09and i have to say i'm a little bit disappointed there's so many designers out there they would
20:13die to have this opportunity for this challenge we asked you to create a look for a woman on the go
20:19showcasing your point of view as a designer you had 150 dollars and one day to put your look together
20:25then you won the last challenge so therefore you have immunity for this week and you cannot be
20:30eliminated thank you okay let's meet the judges first we have cfda lifetime achievement award winner

20:49hi and our second guest judge for today designer rachel roy welcome hi hi guys we will score your
20:58designs as they come down the runway one of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out
21:04let's start the show
21:05i made a dress that is a strong piece you can go anywhere in this dressing and really still feel
21:18like you're in the right environment that's what made me set my piece apart from everyone else's
21:28it came out really nice overall i'm happy with the fit of the short and the cut is exactly where i
21:39need it to be i think it looks really clean and looks really fresh
21:49i love the look as it comes down the runway
22:02the hooded cardigan just looks beautiful does read as a lot of clothing but
22:07it's what the look is supposed to read like
22:09it is my design aesthetic it's got a fun color it's got print
22:25i think it looks cute but it's not the best thing i've ever made
22:28i absolutely love this dress i worked with a print that is really interesting
22:47it's really commercial but at the same time has the edge overall it's a very successful look
22:58my look is comfortable it is clean lines
23:06it's accentuating the right parts of the body and it can transition i feel like that's what the woman
23:11on the go is looking for
23:14i'm relieved the piece is well fit it looks very sophisticated it's a good design i don't think it's
23:32a design that will wow the judges but at least i can look at that garment and know that at least
23:37i'm not going home this week
23:45i feel great i think my model looks amazing she feels amazing
23:49i'm sure i'll be on top
24:11i am very pleased it's exactly the look that i was going for
24:14it's very polished it's clean it's sophisticated it's definitely my customer i am happy with the end

24:34when i see my garment walking on the runway i'm modified i'm scared
24:37i am very happy with the way she looks she looks like she belongs on a runway somewhere in london
25:08the outfit looks completely different from what anybody else did and i was very happy and content
25:14with that

25:31i think it's the perfect balance of hard and soft and that's exactly what my aesthetic is

26:44look for a woman who has a lot going on during the day so she's probably running errands in the
26:50morning in the office during the day and basically something we can take her from wearing a hair up to
26:55down to you know flats to pumps so basically anything she wants to wear sanji i love your dress
27:02i think it is stunning i think you manipulated the fabric in a really interesting way what i like
27:09is that you didn't make it a black dress by doing it in that gray jersey you could load on diamonds and
27:15wear silver shoes you could take it all the way down and wear a pair riding boots i love the fact that it's
27:22conservative yet sexy and it could work in any part of the world this is definitely one of my favorites
27:30it's it's a beautiful sleek sexy can wear anytime dress that little sliver of skin that peekaboo that
27:39you might not even see with the first wear you see it with the second wear those are the kind of
27:44details that are so rich it shows that it comes from a designer that really curated and thought out
27:49the design i applaud you thank you so much fabio please tell us about your look sure it came to me the
27:56idea of like a day off on your day off you're going to try to do a lot of things in one day
28:00and you want to look modern and comfortable but at the same time you want to have style and you want
28:04to look cute i looked at this and i was kind of taken aback that you went so structured right i think
28:10what i'm disappointed at i've seen you i mean i'm looking at what you're wearing today you look amazing
28:16and i keep waiting to see what you're presenting on yourself i want to see it come out in the clothes
28:23i think if you do a dress that is that short i would have made the blazer longer because i feel
28:29like it all looks like it shrunk on her body size i think part of the challenge was comfort and glamorous
28:39i can see where this would be comfortable but i don't think it is glamorous
28:43christopher you're next tell us about your look she has a husband and four-year-old she is going to
28:54work she's going to dinner with her husband and it has to translate all day i love it thank you i also
29:03can't believe that you made this entire outfit with a leather jacket for 150 dollars that is crazy
29:09i think you did a great job i think it looks really really good can i take it it is a cute jacket
29:16you want that jacket hayden so that means you like this outfit what about this dress i do i love the
29:21dress i love that you did that with 150 dollars i think that jacket looks killer thank you well done
29:28i think it looks polished easy comfortable glamorous and sexy it looks great thank you listen this challenge
29:37was about how women have to deal with being dressed every day all day but not giving any glamour or
29:45fashion up i think you nailed it thank you very much okay buffy tell us about your look i do love print
29:52and i do love color and i know part of the challenge was to you know represent ourselves as a designer the
29:58coral on the front you can belt it differently it can be like open you can belt it around the front and
30:03the back i left it open at the back so you know throughout the day you could kind of dress it up
30:08differently um to create either a more glamorous look or more relaxed daytime look i would have loved
30:15to see something up in the shoulders something that pulled it together because my shoulders are broader
30:21and that way it doesn't accentuate them it narrows them down yeah but i do love the color thank you
30:28this looks really inexpensive it just does the kind of mixture between the zebra and then the coral on
30:36top it doesn't work for me at all what do you think michael it looks like a hairdressing smock like she
30:43was cutting her hair she you know there was a fire in the beauty salon she belted it and she ran out in
30:50her zebra dress and the whole thing is just weird can you lift up the coral yeah well the ham is cuckoo
30:59too what happened you rely on this shape to cover up the fact that your technical skills are not there
31:08that's not what i intended um i wanted to do well then that's even more tragic if that's not what you
31:15intended i think that's even more tragic because this is like a very bizarre combination
31:22brawl tell us about your look i decided that i wanted to go for print i wanted to find a fabric
31:28that looked like denim but it's actual wool i took in consideration the fact that last time that i was
31:33here i didn't have the chance to do a suit this was my interpretation of a suit for this woman and
31:39there's a lot of room you know if you take the belt it allows plenty of space for those places that
31:45you want to hide you know i hated it quite frankly when it first came out right hated i was like oh my
31:50god she's got kind of vampire points and it's too short it was i i just i hated it and i have to say
31:58it's almost like this jacket was on death watch to me and you just saved it by unbelting it all
32:05things a little confused can we just see that piece under it yeah it's a t-shirt and i wanted
32:11to add a little like leather sights like you can see here and can i see how you close the pants out
32:18on the side yeah i had to him you had some problems there not fabulously that crotch looks cuckoo
32:27a little scrunchy i love to wear pants i was very happy to see pants
32:32walk down the runway but the proportion of your jacket is too long okay i think that you gave
32:39yourself such an ambitious project with so many different silhouettes that you wanted to accomplish
32:45and for all of your hard work you weren't able to just breathe and realize you didn't need those
32:51accessories dimitri tell us about your look my customer loves dresses it's very important for her
32:59to have a dress that can be easily translated from day to evening well hands down it's the best made
33:05garment that we've seen today if that dress would have turned the corner in red it would have balanced
33:11out the safeness or the simplicity of the dress that dress in a really fabulous bright color amazing
33:20i think that you did a great job i like your dress do i have to have it
33:25no for me there needs to be always i don't know like a little bit more sex appeal there needs to be
33:30something that is like wow that is hot i think there's infinite possibilities with this dress
33:38and it's a very simple design that doesn't have to have bows and whistles but it's perfect thank you
33:45okay we've heard what you had to say i'm gonna have a little chat and then i'll bring you back out

33:57okay let's talk about the ones that we liked i think that there were two great candidates i think
34:04three great candidates sanji did a great dress dimitri did a great dress and christopher did a great
34:11dress and jacket these three were great well they all thought about what the challenge was and they
34:17thought about their own aesthetic which is what this was all about right who will win this challenge
34:23to me sanji i think that to hit day and night is difficult and yes she may be a little edgy during
34:29the day but she's totally appropriate throughout the day that would be a dress i would take right now and
34:37and go wear absolutely that dress looked effortless i think that it was surprising enough to be
34:44interesting but classic enough to be versatile i mean that's my reaction i agree to me sanji's dress
