00:01This is a job interview from hell.
00:04I've been in business for 40 years.
00:06Your prize is working with me.
00:09From across the country, 16 tycoons of tomorrow have come to London.
00:15Don't start telling me that you're just like me, because no one's like me.
00:19I'm unique.
00:21They're here to compete for a job with a six-figure salary,
00:25working for Britain's most belligerent boss.
00:28I think this is outrageous.
00:30You haven't got a bloody clue. Not a bloody clue.
00:34Famously hard to please, Sir Alan Sugar controls a vast business empire
00:40worth over £800 million.
00:43Once again, he's on the hunt for an apprentice.
00:47It's up to you. You open your bloody mouth,
00:49or I'll fire the bloody five of you if I have to.
00:52I don't give a shit.
00:53To land their dream job...
00:55You're going to make millions!
00:56The candidates will have to live...
01:00I'll tell you what, that's pissed me off.
01:02Hold on, sir. Don't use me.
01:04...and work together.
01:07I'm getting sick of you keep telling me it's not your problem.
01:09Do you have a laugh, or what?
01:10We're looking like idiots.
01:12I'm lying!
01:13But there's just one job.
01:16You're fired. You're fired.
01:17This was a total disaster.
01:19You're fired.
01:19You're fired.
01:21You're fired.
01:21You're fired.
01:22You're fired.
01:25You're fired.
01:25You're fired.
01:26You're fired.
01:28Previously on The Apprentice...
01:31Sir Alan met the teams for the first time.
01:34Nervous?
01:37Good.
01:39He didn't waste a minute.
01:40It was straight from the boardroom to flog wet fish on the streets of London.
01:44guys I'm talking project manager Claire struggled to control her rowdy girls
01:53this is an absolute shambles we need to regroup the boys lost a fortune
01:58pricing lobsters at a fraction of their value lobster they're selling for 23

02:29Nicholas you're fired now 15 remain to fight for the chance to become the
02:37apprentice
02:527 a.m.
03:05Hello?
03:06Hello, this is Frances calling from Sir Alan's office.
03:09The teams are summoned to their computers for a message from Sir Alan.
03:22I'm sorry I can't be with you today, but as typical in business, I've been called away to attend to an urgent matter.
03:36You are going to prove to me that you can bring me some money back to the boardroom from virtually a zero position.
03:42You're going to start a laundry business from scratch.
03:46I've laid on two laundries for you.
03:48You go out, you find the customers, you perform the service, and most certainly make sure the quality is right.
03:54Because I'll tell you one thing, when stuff comes back from the laundry that I don't like, I sling it back at them.
04:00The team that comes back with the most amount of money wins, the team that doesn't loses.
04:05And as usual, in that losing team, one of you will get fired.
04:09All right, thanks for the laundry in the house.
04:14Sir Alan has given each team an industrial laundry, only available until 2am tonight.
04:24They must pitch to get as much dirty laundry as possible, wash it, and return it before tomorrow afternoon when they're due back at the boardroom.
04:33Whoever makes the most money will win.
04:35The teams will be watched by Sir Alan's trusted advisors, Margaret Mountford and Nick Hewer.
04:46Good morning.
04:47First, the teams must choose project managers.
04:51On the boys' team, entrepreneur Rafe volunteers.
04:55I will take this on if you are all happy.
04:57I'm happy to.
04:58And, you know, and are behind me 100%...
05:00And Rafe, 100%...
05:02I was very happy to be project manager because as I saw it, I had been in the boardroom and saw the next task as a task for me to prove myself.
05:12Let's absolutely kick arse.
05:15I wouldn't look at Rafe as a natural leader.
05:18You wouldn't look at him because he's not very brash.
05:19He's not like, whoa, out there, that type of thing.
05:21I've got no problem, you know, with taking this, you know, straight by the horns, yeah, absolutely.
05:31Rafe's different to a lot of us in a lot of his mannerisms, his upbringing.
05:35That's not to say he won't be accepted into a group at all.
05:39At the same time, if he doesn't pull his weight, then there will be a difficulty and there will be a problem.
05:44Well done, Rafe.
05:45Let's go for it, guys.
05:46For the girls, award-winning saleswoman Jenny is keen to lead.
05:50I'd very much like to be project manager today if you're all in agreement for this task.
05:55I'm happy.
05:56I'm happy.
05:57Yeah, I'm happy, yes.
05:59Excellent.
05:59I was really keen to be project manager because I come from a very tough sales background where I've been hugely successful and I don't mind putting my neck on the line.
06:10We've got loads and loads of things that we need to brainstorm.
06:12We need to lay some really solid foundations and then we need to go out and work our cotton socks off today.
06:17Rafe's first job, decide who will do what.
06:22I've got my door-locking fist at the ready, mate.
06:25Yep.
06:26Simon?
06:27I have had experience of laundry equipment in Bosnia.
06:29I've used the equipment, I'm no expert on it, but ironing, what do you reckon as a soldier?
06:37I've ironed more shirts.
06:38So can we do this?
06:39And this is hot, sweaty, grafty work.
06:42Yeah.
06:42I was an NCO in the army for the best part of the 1990s.
06:45I've done peacekeeping in Bosnia and in Cyprus.
06:48I think there's a big potential to mess this up.
06:50If you lose one sock for a residential customer, you've lost your business and screwed.
06:54It's just difficult to control.
06:56Okay, so Simon, I guess we'll call you kind of the admin man.
06:59Let's find one of my admin logistics and make sure that the cogs are on.
07:02Although you are going to be focusing on the business customers when you go out and pitch...
07:06Upstairs, project manager Jenny spends the first hour on a sales lecture.
07:11Do find out business rates and also consumer rates, okay?
07:15Unless we use their team of service.
07:17Stop, stop, stop a minute. I then want you to think about how they're pricing up the washing.
07:22Are they doing it by a bucket load? Are they doing it by a basket load?
07:25Are they doing it by a bin liner? Or are they doing it by the number of items?
07:28Okay, we need to plan, but we don't go on planning and planning and planning and have more planning.
07:34What special offers have you got on at the moment? What can you do for me?
07:37Oh, I'm sorry, that's too expensive.
07:39She just goes on and on and faffs on.
07:42We need all the ideas to be rolling off each other. So should we start off with the customers?
07:46I think Jenny's very definitely in charge of the whole group, but she has her favourites.
07:51I think you, H, you're multi-skilled and talented. You're hugely creative, aren't you, Ches?
07:58I know.
07:58Yeah, brilliant. But I don't know much about you at the moment, Lucinda, and where your strengths line.
08:04Any marketing or any design. There's already cliques going on. People are vying for the prime spotter situation, which I do find a little bit irksome.
08:13If we're doing 40 items for £29.99, it costs us £2 to do a wash.
08:19If you can speak to Helene regarding your ideas, would that be okay?
08:24I am not involved in any other groups, because I don't have allegiance to anyone.
08:31The boys are about to leave the house when a final thought occurs to them.
08:35We've got an industrial steam iron downstairs.
08:37We've got iron stairs.
08:37Yeah, but they're going to have to be shared.
08:39The girls are going to think the same thing. They're not stupid.
08:42We don't have to share anything. We'll just bring it up here now and just reserve it for us.
08:46I mean, what's this business about sharing? We don't, you know, if they haven't taken the initiative, we bloody well will.
08:50Don't get it. Don't get it. Bring it to our office. Bring both of the irons.
08:56They grab all the ironing equipment in the house.
08:59Whatever's going to happen, lads, we're going to smash the girls. That is an absolute given.
09:02That's for sure. That has to happen.
09:04Nothing's worrying me, asshole. I'm completely confident that we're going to execute this task with the success and vigour that we need to.
09:12Fuck.
09:14Let's do this.
09:15Well done, Phil.
09:16Continue to win it.
09:17There's absolutely no question about losing this, OK?
09:22The girls follow, but can't agree how to divide up.
09:26I was put on the strategy to do the commercial.
09:29That's fine.
09:29On the residential.
09:30I don't mind. I don't mind. Put me anywhere. I don't mind. I can come with you.
09:34No, she'd be brilliant. You'd be dealing with us.
09:36You're going to go with Emily, Cinder, right?
09:38Right.
09:38Next job, find the customers.
09:45Rafe sends half his team to hunt for dirty laundry door to door.
09:49It doesn't matter where we get out. We just hit this road until it bleeds money.
09:54Roosa!
09:55It's straight to work in one of London's affluent suburbs.
09:59Hello, sir.
10:00Oh, hello, Mr Labrador.
10:01We're from Renaissance Laundry. We're offering a 24-hour laundering service.
10:04In terms of ironing, we'll do a pound for every shirt or blouse that you've got.
10:08Right.
10:08Or any trousers or skirts, we'll do it two pounds.
10:12Knocking on doors a few miles away, half the girls' team.
10:16I just don't think people are going to be in on a beautiful day.
10:19Good morning, now.
10:20Hello.
10:20Good afternoon.
10:21We've just set up a new company, and we're looking to do washing and ironing for people
10:25so they don't have to bother on a weekend.
10:26Not interesting.
10:28All right, look.
10:28My own.
10:34Come on, girls.
10:35Right.
10:36Let's have a look.
10:37Laundry.
10:39For the project managers, there's some big business up for grabs.
10:43Sir Alan has lined up extra potential customers.
10:47But to win the work, the teams must go head-to-head.
10:52First appointment of the day, a large hotel.
10:55It needs sheets, towels and pillowcases, cleaned overnight.
11:01To work out what to charge, the boys call a laundry company.
11:05How much would you charge to wash and press per double bed sheet?
11:1090p a sheet.
11:12And so it's 45p for a single sheet?
11:16Yeah.
11:17Heading for the same meeting, the girls try to guess prices.
11:24Right, why don't we say, I've got an idea, make it really simple.
11:28Why don't we say that everything that you have done with this is 4.99?
11:32How do you feel about that?
11:34I'm very confident about that.
11:36You have to keep it simple as possible.
11:38Uncomplicating.
11:39Every item, 4.99.
11:40Yeah?
11:40Yeah, definitely.
11:42The job, 1,000 pieces of laundry.
11:45It normally costs the manager just £200.
11:48The boys wait while the girls bid first.
11:57We've got a quote for you, we've got a price.
11:59We're going to do the standard price for everything, 4.99, for each, for every single item.
12:05Right.
12:07Yeah.
12:07Yeah.
12:08So, all together, Jennifer.
12:10And is that your best price?
12:12Because that will come to 4.999.
12:15Yeah.
12:19Including in that price, we've got lots of things that we'd like to offer you.
12:22You've got a 24-hour hotline.
12:25Me and Jennifer will both be your personal account manager.
12:28So, if you have any issues, you have a direct mobile to both of us.
12:31So, you know, we'd definitely like you to consider the fact, you know, all the other benefits that you get along with the laundry.
12:38It's not beneficial to us at all, that price.
12:40So, obviously, you need to come back.
12:41How much do you usually pay out of interest?
12:43It's a lot less than that.
12:45It's in the hundreds.
12:48For 1,000 items of laundry, it's in the hundreds.
12:52Yeah.
12:52OK.
12:56That was terrible.
12:57I know.
12:58The girls have offered to do the job for £5,000.
13:02Now it's the boys' turn.
13:05The price for the total figure that you requested comes to £556.
13:11Now, how do you think that price sounds?
13:14High.
13:15High.
13:15Right.
13:16And I think there's, you know, we've got some room to negotiate with that.
13:18Absolutely.
13:19Absolutely.
13:20I would really like to work with you, Scott.
13:21And we believe that we have a rate to suit you.
13:25Thank you very much for the offer.
13:27The price I am actually looking for is around £200 mark.
13:31£200.
13:31OK.
13:33Then I would be prepared to accept the £200 offer from you, Scott.
13:36OK.
13:37Thanks so much, Scott.
13:37Thank you very much.
13:38I'll take you down and show you the job.
13:40Thank you, Scott.
13:40Thanks.
13:40Thanks.
13:40Bye-bye.
13:41Caff, go fucking get him.
13:43Happy day.
13:43Oh, we've got the job, mate.
13:45No, we've got the job, but wait a second.
13:47Right, and this is the laundry.
13:49It's in Mix-Lots.
13:50Yeah.
13:52The dirty laundry fills five large pallets.
13:55It must be washed, dried, and ironed overnight.
13:59They'll only get paid when the job is done.
14:01Rafe, I need some help with this, buddy.
14:03Sorry?
14:04There's a lot here.
14:05No, it's not a question if we can't fit this, this has to fucking get.
14:08It will, it will, it will fit.
14:09It's going to be 200 quid.
14:10It's going to fit, it's going to fit.
14:11Come on, let's go.
14:12Fucking get him.
14:13Come on, move this crap.
14:14Come on, I think.
14:17Jesus Christ.
14:21We could put some in the front.
14:23Fucking swiss.
14:26Go, go, go.
14:27Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
14:28That's it.
14:29That's all finished.
14:30That is, you know, that's an awful lot of laundry to do.
14:33That's an awful lot of laundry.
14:34200 quid.
14:34Oh, good afternoon, sir.
14:38Thanks for coming to the door.
14:40Going door to door, the other boys have found a market.
14:42Yeah, cool.
14:45Ain't done yet.
14:46Ain't done yet.
14:46Yeah, it's halfway on to here.
14:48They've started asking for bedding.
14:51That, my friend, is a king.
14:53Is it?
14:53Yeah, so that would be 20 quid.
14:55I'm very happy.
14:55Two times bed covers at 20 pounds for the wholesale.
14:58Yeah.
14:59Wonderful.
14:59Two sales.
15:01But for the girls, going house to house isn't working.
15:04We're cold-cording on doors.
15:06No one's been interested.
15:09It's a pickle.
15:10It's all a pickle.
15:10Hello, Jenny.
15:11Can you update us how you've got on?
15:13We haven't won the contract, so it's becoming more and more obvious that the domestic market
15:19is going to be where the greatest margins are.
15:21Our good feeling is the residential isn't the place to go.
15:25Right, OK.
15:26They haven't got very long.
15:28They've got to get some laundry in.
15:30They really need to get a move on.
15:32They abandon the private houses and head for the high street.
15:37The service we offer is to take away all your laundry and to deliver it back to you by the following day.
15:42We actually charge $19.95 for 30 items.
15:46That sounds quite reasonable.
15:47Their first deal.
15:49Thank you very much.
15:49And it's worth £80.
15:51Thank you very much.
15:52There's been a lot of talking and not a lot of doing.
15:54Don't waste time faffing.
15:55I just want to get on and make some money and get some sales in.
15:58You're not going to get any service better than ours?
16:00Oh, it's got fine there.
16:02It's got fine there.
16:03Nice.
16:03It's got things moving.
16:05OK, so we'll drop it off tomorrow morning.
16:06He said go across the road.
16:07They might have something.
16:08Yeah, next time.
16:09The next appointment, laid on by Sir Alan, are fishmongers in Fulham.
16:15See you in a bit.
16:16See you in a bit.
16:16Both teams arrive for their head-to-head pitch.
16:20The job should cost around £60.
16:22At the end of the day, that was like two, that was two washes, so I'm going at £8.
16:30You should get on it more than that.
16:32Well, for that lot there, we can probably do it all for £10.
16:37Everything for £10?
16:39Yes.
16:40You're going to iron it as well on my T-shirt?
16:42Right, for ironing, we'll probably look about £14, £15 ironing as well.
16:47All together, everything, everything in there, £15, total price.
16:53Total price.
16:54You sure?
16:55Promise you, elite service.
16:57Let's go and check it.
16:58OK.
17:00Now we're going to clean all my trousers, all my T-shirts, all my aprils, full of blood for £15.
17:10Yeah, wash and iron.
17:11Not each, total price, £15.
17:14Everything.
17:15It's a good price.
17:17What do you think?
17:21Do you think we went in too high, too low?
17:23Too high?
17:23I don't think we went in too high.
17:25What's your price?
17:26We were looking, first of all, at a price of £49.50.
17:32It's a fair price, but the girls come back with an unbelievable price.
17:38Less than half of what you say.
17:39Less than half?
17:40Exactly.
17:41Right, OK.
17:42We're unfortunately not going to be able to match that.
17:44OK, then.
17:45Thank you so much for your time.
17:46We really do appreciate it.
18:34This is your laundry.
18:35This is our laundry?
18:36Yes.
18:37It was delivered maybe an hour ago.
18:38OK.
18:39So this is our stuff?
18:40Yes.
18:41What's the problem?
18:42This is going to take a long time, mate.
18:44We're not concerned about this.
18:45As long as someone's just there to sort it out, we'll be there as soon as we can.
18:49There is a lot of stuff to do here.
18:52Just do the laundry here.
18:53Just do the laundry.
18:54OK.
18:55Follow on.
18:56What was that talking about?
18:58Just introduce it.
18:59Just get on with it.
19:00Come on boys, let's be in the mix-up, let's get out some motivational speech, eh?
19:10Can you imagine the Harry Monk in all these things if you put ultraviolet in?
19:14It's like a sip or something.
19:17There were some seriously nasty stains in some of the shoes.
19:20Oh, they stank, they stank.
19:23Oh my goodness, give him a second.
19:25So we're off and running.
19:30Every piece of hotel linen must be washed and pressed.
19:35Towels and pillowcases take one person.
19:38But to feed one sheet through the industrial presser takes four.
19:43With 500 sheets to get through before the laundry shuts, there's a long night ahead.
19:49And stretch!
19:557.15pm
19:57I did get lost this morning when we were doing different things.
20:00We didn't do a brainstorm, did we?
20:01We didn't do a brainstorm.
20:02People were just being ignored.
20:03Yes.
20:04The numerous occasions you said, yeah, can we slow down?
20:06And all you were told was, be quiet, listen.
20:10Hi Jenny, it's Helen.
20:11Earlier on today I asked Lucinda to come back to me regarding tumble drying.
20:17She hasn't come back to me.
20:18Let me make something very clear to you, Jen.
20:20Now you didn't specify anything and I asked you if there's anything specific that you wanted
20:25and you did not come back with a single answer.
20:27So if you would please stop using my name in vain.
20:30I need your help, Lucinda.
20:32I want you to remember exactly what you asked me to do.
20:35Lucinda?
20:36And I will be as helpful as I possibly can do.
20:38Lucinda?
20:39But please do not start pinning questions on me which I would not ask for such.
20:42Lucinda?
20:43Lucinda?
20:44Oh my God.
20:45I know.
20:46What I would expect from my team is not act like some spoiled, silly little girl
20:54who's throwing her dummy out of the pram because I'll just get it and shove it down her throat.
21:00Look, we haven't even made an indentation in this yet and it takes time.
21:05We've got hundreds of these to do.
21:07It's all hands to the pump now, isn't it?
21:09Everyone's had long enough.
21:10Yep.
21:11Rafe has just won an order for two sacks of butcher's jackets.
21:15It's Michael.
21:17It's Simon.
21:18I know.
21:19I'm sorry the noise were in the laundry.
21:21It's okay.
21:22I thought you might be.
21:23Whatever you're doing, chaps, I think, and run it past Rafe, you need to draw a line under
21:27it now, boys, and get yourselves back here because we have it coming out of our ears here
21:33and we need help.
21:35Yeah, Simon, we've just been busy making money.
21:38We're on our way, as I said, now.
21:40See you soon, Rafe, boy.
21:41See you.
21:42See you.
21:43Bye.
21:44Where are they?
21:45They're on their way.
21:46They're coming back.
21:47Let's go!
21:48Want a coffee?
21:49Two coffees.
21:50White.
21:51No sugar?
21:52A little latte.
21:53No sugar for me, please.
21:54Sugar for me, please.
21:55Thanks.
21:56Epsi-been, epsi-been, epsi-been.
22:01Boys, let's keep it going.
22:02Three, two, one, go.
22:04Don't call these places sweatshops for nothing, you know?
22:06Keep going, keep going, keep going.
22:08Hello?
22:09Boss, how long are you going to be?
22:10We're literally on our way now.
22:11We are swatting back.
22:12Boys, it's hard, man.
22:13Don't call these places sweatshops for nothing, you know?
22:15Go, keep going, keep going, keep going.
22:17Hello?
22:18Boss, how long are you going to be?
22:20We're literally on our way now.
22:22We are swatting back.
22:23Boys, it's hard, man.
22:24Boys, it's hard, man.
22:25Don't fucking ask me to do that.
22:27Guys, guys, we're on our way.
22:29Back on it, come on.
22:30Bye.
22:31Bye.
22:32Cheers, boys.
22:33I need to chill, actually.
22:34Jesus Christ.
22:35What contrast?
22:36So high in this round.
22:38Well, there's absolutely no points making a fuss.
22:42Just do it.
22:44Jesus Christ, really.
22:46Can't stand whiners.
22:48We do need to start doing these pillowcases,
22:50because I think if they're staying there damp,
22:52that's going to be an issue.
22:53Well, we need four people to work that.
22:55How far away are the boys?
22:56This is going to be a job for them when they get here.
23:05Yeah, hi, Ralph speaking.
23:06Ralph, hi, it's Ian.
23:07How are you doing in traffic, mate?
23:08Ian, we're around three minutes away.
23:10Oh, tough man, right, we'll see you in a bit.
23:16How many times do you need to be told?
23:18All right, ladies, off-ski.
23:208pm.
23:22Half the girls are back at their laundry.
23:25With lots of bags from different customers to track,
23:28Shazia takes charge of organisation.
23:31Good job.
23:32Close that bag up.
23:33Yeah.
23:34We've got it.
23:35And now we'll just...
23:36We know that belongs to them.
23:37My contribution right now is making sure that everything is labelled
23:41so we know the right person gets the right clothes.
23:43OK, one load and I'll put two bags.
23:45Yeah.
23:46OK.
23:47Jenny's group is still looking for business.
23:50All right, I've been...
23:51I like you.
23:52We're picking up speed and momentum now,
23:54but I think in order to beat the boys,
23:56we now need to go and secure every single restaurant
23:58and every single pub
24:00and every single breathing person who's out on that road now.
24:03Excuse me.
24:04Good evening.
24:05Right, guys.
24:06No one's over here.
24:07He's here, mate.
24:08Nice.
24:09Look at the pail of sheets and now we just need to get on with it, guys.
24:10Yeah, guys, let's do this.
24:11We've got to be done.
24:12We've got to be done.
24:13Let's do this.
24:14Go!
24:15I obviously have concerns because we've tended for a lot of work and we've got it.
24:31I know it's closed deals, but is it going to be money in the bank if we don't return anything?
24:35All hands to the pump, shit to the big machine and get another machine going.
24:39No!
24:40What we have is a challenge.
24:43It's going to be close.
24:44It's going to be tight.
24:45It's not burning.
24:46No!
24:53By 11 o'clock, Jenny has found more than £100 worth of new orders.
24:58What's the total for that?
24:59She returns to the laundry.
25:01Are you all right?
25:02Yeah.
25:03I'm sure.
25:04With lots of extra washing.
25:06Can you carry that?
25:07It's quite heavy.
25:08How much washing?
25:09We've got a really good system in place.
25:12Each machine has been labelled so we know exactly what belongs to who.
25:16Finally, they're off.
25:23But two hours from now, the laundry must shut.
25:26We've definitely been left to the last minute.
25:29I don't think we envisaged how much stuff was going to be brought back at such a late stage in the day.
25:33I think it's very likely we're going to be taking washing helmets this evening.
25:37There we go.
25:38Unaware the boys locked away the irons, Shazia's plan is to finish the girls pressing at the house.
25:45I did go back to Jenny to say, look, we've got to get back before the boys get there to secure the iron.
25:50We need to go now because the boys will be thinking exactly the same thing.
25:54I'd be surprised if they're not already there.
25:55Yeah.
25:56Okay.
25:58See you.
25:59And I went.
26:05Oh, boys in the house.
26:07Right, let's get the irons now.
26:10Where are they?
26:11Where are the irons?
26:13Oh.
26:16They've stolen them.
26:18The iron boards aren't even there.
26:20Don't underestimate the boys here.
26:22We certainly did.
26:23We left earlier, but they took it probably hours ago.
26:26Take them and back them.
26:28Keep it going boys, eh?
26:30Ten minutes to go.
26:32Right, girls, it's ten-two.
26:35Jenny still has laundry that needs ironing.
26:38The girls start packing it up to finish at home, but without Shazia to explain the system.
26:44Fifteen shards are together.
26:46Where's the label gone?
26:48I hope we haven't fucked up with mixing up.
26:51What's that one?
26:52What happened to this?
26:53I've got that one that was there.
26:55And that one was there as well.
26:57So this all goes together, doesn't it?
27:00This isn't ours, is it?
27:01It's ours.
27:02Right, cool.
27:03Absolutely.
27:04Okay, we'll get that out in the van and we'll get it out as well.
27:07After eight hours, the boys pull out their last wrinkled sheet.
27:12Guys, the next one's kind of special.
27:13Whoo!
27:14That's it, boys!
27:15They've done it!
27:16Oh, mate, this is the last one.
27:17Eight towels.
27:18That was fucking awesome.
27:19Well done.
27:20Oh.
27:21Right, that's the corporate job loadies.
27:22Thanks a lot.
27:23Yeah, cheers.
27:24It has delivered.
27:25Come on in.
27:26Fuck it in, mate.
27:27It's just nice.
27:28Yeah, man.
27:29Thanks a lot, man.
27:31My fucking feet.
27:32Right, Lucinda, don't worry about folding those up now.
27:36Don't worry about folding things until we get home.
27:41Let's get that out now, have we got a bag.
27:45thank you my fucking feet right lucinda don't worry about folding those up now don't worry
27:54about folding things until we get home let's let's get that out now have we got a bag but i think we
28:01could almost get away with most of them without having to iron if we shake and fold
28:05right lucinda you're standing there folding them up you've got two minutes to get all of these
28:15into the van i don't want you paying that much attention to detail when we've got three minutes
28:22to get it out okay i have to say lucinda i'm absolutely thoroughly disappointed with your
28:34behavior tonight i just want to highlight that point with you it's an example this evening i've
28:39watched you you we've got two minutes to get the bloody napkins out to the van you're supposed to
28:46be unloading them from the from from the tumble dryer and you're taking one out and folding it up
28:52on the side you you're taking one now when i have team members that are doing such ludicrous stupid
29:00things it means that i'm having to to concentrate and direct a disproportionate amount of my time
29:06on managing you and making sure that you're not doing absolutely stupid things you said that
29:11number two bear me please number two i haven't finished i'm your project manager and i haven't
29:16finished please let me retaliate on the points i have not finished so you can give me the respect
29:19by listening you can feed back to me in a minute when i'm finished i will come back on individual points
29:24you can feed back to me in a minute when i'm finished okay understand not okay so when we had
29:29what was probably a hundred napkins in that tumble dryer you didn't take one napkin off put it on the
29:36side and fold it up that's not fact please can you not shout at me first that's not fact what i would
29:41consider is that maybe have a night's sleep and we can discuss in the morning no the fact that you're
29:46not answering it leads me to believe that you are not actually capable of acknowledging where you have
29:52gone wrong that doesn't help the team dynamics at all that is like a fungus that starts eating away
29:59at the positivity of the team you just go on and on about one thing you don't know what's going on
30:07you take one side of the story and then you just attack
30:11without the irons and the boys not back work can't continue can we have a show of hands who wants to go to bed
30:34now and get up early it's just been madness i think people need to have a bit of a sleep she said that i've
30:42destroyed the task
30:517am the girls call a meeting but lucinda doesn't show leasing that stayed in bed this morning because you
31:01know she basically had the hearth she's agreed that she'll be at the meeting at seven o'clock the
31:06meeting had to go ahead without her lucinda arrives as the meeting ends right that's right yeah right
31:14lucinda what i need you to do if possible is focus on generating some invoices we've got all the
31:20information here for you no you haven't they haven't we have i haven't shown you the rest of the
31:24information let's not be argumentative you didn't attend the meeting this morning after three people
31:29trying to wake you up and that's your responsibility to attend a meeting that i invite you to attend in
31:34the morning to make sure that this is all sorted out i'm very sorry let's go and get the invoice
31:38sorted out the girls want to use the irons in our office because it appears that they still have
31:44work to do yeah i know you're looking for the irons um they're in our office hey great they had it the
31:51whole night and guess what they didn't even use it right girls are you all okay yeah how's the ironing
31:57going and smell great is this fish boy i don't know gosh what's all this i thought you'd have been
32:07packing up the van to deliver by now 8 30 a.m the boys leave to hand back their fresh laundry
32:16everything must be returned by two when both teams are due at the boardroom see you later girls bye
32:23miss you good luck girls see you a bit yeah
32:28it takes the girls another hour to finish but as they take their laundry to the cars
32:35there's confusion about what goes where okay hang on a sec this is the fuck off now because these are all
32:41the air percy hotel i've got some for miguel here some we have another bag i've got jenny the napkins
32:47and everything else for miguel the girls where are the tablecloths i don't know because i came home
32:53in the first car remember right it's gone in the wrong bag this one is got to go with hardload that's all
33:01and these two here as well that's all our stuff we shouldn't have left earlier because we were the
33:04ones that were in control of what was going on oh who's these i was just thinking that
33:21i'm at defensive today in south london the boys start handing their laundry back to its owners
33:28one duvet absolutely pristinely cleaned come out perfectly so that's 20 pounds please and your

38:08of jenny's only hope is that her missing clothes are in the other van we've had a problem that we've
38:16dropped off the um the first two batches of washing and the items have been incorrect we've
38:22given everything away everything that we've given belongs to the people we do not have those people
38:28shirts next stop the boardroom
38:42you can go through to the boarding now
39:06good afternoon
39:28ladies alpha team leader you was the team leader yes jennifer okay how was the team leader good
39:35everybody happy with the team leader we had our ups and downs but overall it was good
39:40ups and downs
39:43do you think your team worked well for you i didn't feel like i had a hundred percent commitment from
39:49some of my team anybody in particular yes certainly sir alan uh lucinda
39:55most definitely i felt i had an enormous amount of issues with throughout the course of my task
40:01one of your clients is still looking for some of his clothing i think yes we we had an issue with some
40:07lost articles when we returned the items to the the consumers and stuff yes we did sir alan two shirts
40:15you lost the fellow's shirts yes i bet he was very upset was he not i don't think he'd want us
40:21to do his washing again no i'll tell you what i'm going to ask margaret to deduct 50 pounds
40:28off whatever you brought back to compensate this fellow
40:35gentlemen do you think you've taken the ladies to the cleaners
40:39yes yes we do definitely who's who's your team leader right right good team leader
40:44whoo whoa whoa whoa i see now let's um do some numbers shall we uh margaret of course you just
40:58find them 50 pounds so the girls took a net profit of 195 pounds 55. okay
41:07nick renaissance taught home profit of 328 pounds yeah well done well done 328 pounds from scratch you
41:20paid your way that's very very good well in return for this gentlemen your treat today is that you're

41:42amongst yourself come back in this boardroom here and we'll decide which one of you is going to get
41:48fired off you go
41:56fucking legendary absolute legendary guys great brilliant great that was fucking renaissance
42:18we thought we need to try and get your accent because it's so distinguished and absolutely brilliant
42:32more teas are oh yes please what oh bloke top tea
42:36truly hilarious
42:44rafe was a bit of an enigma when i first met him
42:47i couldn't really work the guy out even some of the the officers i work with in the army are
42:51not as you know distinguished as rafe right guys well again absolutely congratulations um job
42:58well done last night in the laundry it was it was like the military operation i was like his sergeant
43:02major and he was the officer it was like it was like the good old days onwards and upwards for the next task
43:19personally i think jenny was a really good team manager and i tell you what every time i did
43:25something good i felt praised it's definitely quite a daunting experience going into the boardroom and
43:31it's awful to be in this situation i'm feeling um apprehensive and nervous actually because i
43:37don't believe i should be in there and i'm going to fight for myself and i'm going to fight to be
43:41sir alan's apprentice i'm looking forward to going into the boardroom because i i feel that
43:46sir alan needs to know exactly what's going on in the women's team at the moment i'm the strongest
43:51candidate within the team that i'm working in and i'll be really really delighted to get rid of some of
43:56the weaker candidates
44:09the candidates in please thanks so i will see you now
44:23jenny this boils down to a handful of major flaws here you went into this first pitch totally
44:46unprepared you offered the man to do his laundry for five thousand pounds didn't it sound stupid
44:54the minute the word five thousand came out of your mouth everybody was in agreement i'm not an expert
45:00at pricing you don't have to be a bloody expert to know that you can't charge five pounds to launder
45:06a pillowcase and that's no blooming expert you could buy a pillowcase for you could buy five just just
45:13common sense just absolute common sense you were in terms of the fish shop and took away a huge bundle
45:19of things for 19 pounds or 15 pounds 15 pounds two big black bags because that frankly that price was
45:25as ridiculous as the 5 000 you quoted the hotel but then when we went in we got 10 pound extra even though
45:32we're asking for tips asking what i didn't actually specifically ask you for tips who was asking for
45:38tips it was my idea i said that we should every load that we take back we should try and get some
45:44extra finance i didn't send you out to get tips you know you're not waiters i sent you out to do
45:49laundry not blagging people i don't run my business blagging people for tips i don't get a little tip
45:56extra tip after i've delivered a load of televisions to one of my customers i don't ask him for a for a tip
46:02i think this is outrageous you condoned all this tip stuff then did you we were looking to maximize
46:07profit and i i thought that it was a legitimate thing to do we knew we were competing against
46:12the boys so we had to think of an angle as to why the customer what other angles did you have
46:16um we also had our 24-hour hotline and we decided that what was the purpose of the 24-hour hotline
46:23myself and jennifer would have been um the whoever decided to do their laundry with us and be their
46:28personal account manager so if they had queries personal account manager what they would they would query
46:33like someone would phone up and say hello girls how's my pants doing we just thought it might
46:37the advantage that the boys wouldn't have and we also i don't know of anybody progressing their
46:43laundry you know it means the last thing i would think they want to do you know you've taken it away
46:48uh and and and i'm going to phone the 24-hour hotline to see the progress on my kelvin clines
46:57um who was responsible in this task for losing people's stuff how'd you lose it
47:07what i believe happened was we had four girls who were sent back towards the end of the evening
47:11so the key people who were responsible and knowing what things were kept separate were in fact sent
47:16back in the van the reason we screwed up all the residential customers this afternoon and i had the
47:22embarrassment along with everybody else was purely because the last loads that came out that washing
47:27machine had no labels no nothing as soon as whose fault was that then that was she's a no we had
47:33washing that you knew what it was and where it went and you left and nobody else knew i felt that
47:37if we had to finish by two o'clock then we would use the opportunity to go and get the iron so that we
47:42can work throughout the night to ensure that the job got done on time for me it was just a matter of
47:49trying to secure an iron i have understood that on going home you maybe were the major cause for the
47:55stuff that went missing because no one could identify the stuff that was left in the laundry
48:01afterwards jenny there seems to be some differences of opinion between lucinda and yourself i think in
48:11a nutshell what it is is you're saying that she just didn't step up to do the work not only not stepped
48:16up to do the work sir alan but actually it caused more problems can i hear what she actually did wrong
48:24yes certainly this morning we were up at seven o'clock to make sure that we could deliver a
48:28professional service to the customers that we've got i had all my team turn up at seven o'clock in
48:32the morning the only person that didn't and decided to take a lion was lucinda she'd been asked by three
48:38different people to actually attend that meeting which i don't think was demonstrating a commitment to
48:44the team ethic in regards to the meeting this morning i didn't hear being woken up you're saying you
48:49didn't deliberately abstain absolutely not i just feel it's a wee bit of scapegoating when in fact to
48:55me the main issue the main problem was the project management helena i want your call on this situation
49:02who is most responsible do you think for the failure of this task i do feel it's more than one person
49:10and i think the biggest reason is because we i mean look at us now it's it's so crystal clear that we
49:16are not a team maybe it comes down to the accountability again of the project manager
49:20ensuring that everyone knew what they were doing we all have to have a bit of accountability
49:41i'll tell you what i am sick and tired of listening to this draw
49:44it is quite clear to me there's been a lot of arguing going the silliest arguing going on here
49:49now and arguing can't be constructive however much time you spent arguing you could have spent going
49:55out and getting some more laundry to do or actually executing and doing the laundry jenny
50:03tell me which two people are you going to bring back in this boardroom we send it and she's there
50:10right okay the rest of you bloody shambles go back to the house and you three also go outside
50:18and i'll call you back in a bit later
50:30jenny's main problem this one she was so fixated with being project manager
50:34she couldn't look sideways lucinda had her good points and her bad points i wonder if it's a clash
50:41of two personalities here just one is just never going to give in to the other i mean it seems it
50:45says it's personal or what all right well look i think we'll we'll bring them in now and we'll sort
50:52it out once and for all
50:57sir alan we'll see you now
51:06so
51:18lucinda you've heard lots of allegations uh about yourself why shouldn't i fire you
51:25sir alan one of my strengths is in fact enthusing others and ensuring that people work constructively
51:31within a team team motivation and working within a group is one of my fortes team motivation and
51:38working within a group is one of your fortes and yet the team leader says that you were to say the
51:45least disruptive and uncooperative at no time have i acted or willfully acted to be detrimental to this
51:53task i wonder i i i mean risk management assessor is your speciality i understand is that right
52:00it's one of the areas which i've worked within yes is a lot at risk at the moment i can assure you
52:06because this you know this may be the last time that you and i uh see each other
52:14shazia in the same question to you why shouldn't i fire you i'm an opportunist i i i i'm a doer i don't
52:22you know i do everything that is required and more in this task i don't know where i went wrong
52:27where'd she go wrong in this task jenny um she lied she complained she she um manipulated with other
52:36people um she didn't deliver on the tasks that i'd allocated to her for example she gave that
52:42selective amnesia because an understanding which you see here here you always you're saying to people
52:48i allocated this task i allocated that and in fact you haven't you were in bed asleep you have no
52:54idea what was happening can i tell you three people at once for the entire process that i've been
53:01working with both of you it has felt like i've had to breastfeed you to be quite honest with you late
53:07for me the task was the most important thing and i wanted to win it i don't understand how i'm in the
53:13situation today because what i have done is i delivered at every single opportunity you were
53:19responsible for identifying whose laundry is what i put a process in place to ensure that everybody knew
53:28what the machines were capable of at no point was any machine left unattended you attended them didn't
53:33you you went you went away and left them that was on agreement with jenny jenny didn't come to the
53:39laundrette until 11 30. well she was out selling still yeah but she was still out selling and we
53:45already had a huge pile of washing to do you know they were prepared to what time did you finally all
53:50leave the laundry three two o'clock okay so she picked a deadline i'm still going to bring stuff in
53:56and i don't care if you've got a lot that's what it's all about am i missing the whole the whole plot
54:02here do we have a kind of a personality clash here has it got nothing at all to do
54:08with business sir alan this is business it has nothing to do with personality it's due to who
54:14delivers what and how they deliver it i have had great difficulty excuse me i'm still speaking
54:20very easily the task was for us to deliver as much profitable profitable business as we can you be
54:27quiet please can you be quiet please so who would you fire here then me without a doubt jenny and you
54:38jenny you can't be very proud of this surely sir alan i'm not proud of it at all and i'm here to
54:46deliver to you i want to be your next haven't i know on this task i haven't these two people have
54:51not supported me one iota also they do not have the capability to deliver to the team either and
54:57not only is it their their their attitude that is a great concern to me but it is their lack of
55:02ability to contribute anything of any value okay listen i i think i've heard enough here quite
55:11frankly i mean it's an understatement to say that there are three people here there are violent
55:16disagreements with each other um which is not good at all as far as i'm concerned in business it's a
55:25difficult decision because i think there are very very good reasons for all of you sitting in front of
55:29me here as to why i should fire you lucinda you've been accused of not cooperating you've been accused
55:39of saying you don't want to participate in things jenny it's regretful that you're unable to control these
55:49two people here i have to hold you responsible i have to hold you fully responsible for not being able
55:57to keep a team in place shazia i think the most heinous of the things that you have done here is that you
56:09left that laundry you left your colleagues with difficulties in identifying the product shazia please
56:19i don't want to hear any more arguing with you two because if you want me to accept that you are
56:40professionals this has been outrageous what's been going on even in this boardroom here today quite
56:46frankly it's the easiest thing in the world for me to get rid of the whole bloody three of you okay
56:53i'm giving you another chance
57:00without a doubt i believe that the person who is responsible for my departure today
57:16is the project manager i think she stitched me up basically she needed someone else to bring into the
57:21boardroom and in the last second just turned on me

58:02One job, now 14 candidates.
58:06Sir Alan's search for his apprentice continues.
58:12Next week...
58:14The pub industry has been suffering for a while.
58:16Sir Alan raises the bar as the teams find ways to flog food in pubs.
58:21Bollywood night.
58:23It's so easy to get the outfits and just have a little bit of a dance,
58:26go around the tables whilst people are eating.
58:28But in the kitchen, it's team spirit that's on the back burner.
58:31If we don't have the food ready, it's your fault. Fine.
58:34Sarah took responsibility for the food.
58:35No, Sarah didn't take responsibility.
58:36She did!
58:39This was a total disaster.
58:42You're fired.
