00:00This is not a game. This is a job interview from hell.
00:13From all corners of the country, 16 people have come to London.
00:19I don't care where you come from, whether you started in a council flat or born with a silver spoon in your mouth.
00:25All I'm looking for is somebody who is drop dead true.
00:30They're here to compete for a job worth £100,000, with a man famously hard to please.
00:40No one's going to make a fool out of me.
00:44Sir Alan Sugar has built a global business empire worth £800 million.
00:51Now, once again, he's on the hunt for an apprentice.
00:55I think this has been a bloody disaster.
00:57And I'll promise you, my friend, you will be out that door so quick, you wouldn't know what's hit you.
01:02To succeed, they're going to have to live and work together.
01:08We are going to make some money.
01:10We really are.
01:11I am your boss.
01:12No, you're not my boss.
01:13I am your boss.
01:15You're nothing to me.
01:16It's the chance of a lifetime.
01:18You went out and lost me money.
01:20You're fired.
01:21You're fired.
01:22You're a total shambles.
01:24You're fired.
01:24You're fired.
01:25You're fired.
01:26previously on The Apprentice the candidates had to choose foreign products to sell to British
01:39retailers project manager Trey roamed the shops with Simon looking for buyers
01:47have you got an appointment Jadine allowed her emotions to get in the way of business she's
02:01missing the daughter a lot so fair enough I miss my family too but obviously she's just quite
02:06emotional we know what women are like the other team led by Katie landed star deals they are very
02:14very different to the standard insoles that you'll have currently they're not gel and they're not foam
02:20I've done well I've sold six in the boardroom Katie won for the first time in seven weeks
02:31today yes and Trey took his turn in the losers seat try if you can't see that you have cocked this up
02:43royal no I've got my house but I don't think I've caught this up royal aside then the team turned
02:49on Jadine she gets kind of a lot very much emotionally involved in work let's get down to basics it
02:54interfered on the task I don't think quite frankly that you have the experience that I need now Jadine
03:01you're fired you're fired Jadine became the tenth casualty of the boardroom
03:088 a.m. with 10 candidates fired the pressures on for the six survivors hello
03:31this stage when you get kicked out you still lose because there is only one winner and I think this
03:53task you'll see it really crank up when it becomes a real competition for the finish line
03:57sir alan has told the candidates to meet him in central london destination the bt tower
04:15good morning first thing I'm going to do is shuffle the teams around a bit okay so low hit move over to
04:42the ladies team and Naomi move over and join the gentlemen here we are in the bt tower jam-packed full
04:57of high-tech telecommunications equipment helping businesses sell and that's what this task is all
05:05about you are going to be selling live on television it's very very simple the team that sells the most
05:14amount of merchandise is going to win and the team that doesn't will lose and in that team one of you
05:20will get fired here's a little bit of a friendly warning here be careful about the products you choose
05:26think about the pricing too high you might not sell any too low you might have to sell ten thousand to
05:34beat the other team so there's a balance everything clear okay off you go and good luck 10 45 a.m the
05:51teams head for Peterborough home to Britain's second largest TV shopping channel I personally would enjoy
05:59selling the latest lighting the ideal world shopping channel can generate tens of thousands of pounds an
06:10hour a very good afternoon to you of course watching idea what my name is Andy love very warm welcome to
06:16you all right what we're looking at now what we've got for you is washer mats but not just one we have
06:20got to a pair of washer mats for you in a variety of different sizes and also variety different colors
06:25as well we have two studios both teams must select a range of products to sell live on TV
06:35each of the candidates will have to take turns as presenters in the studio so would you recommend
06:47this to your friends Doreen definitely yeah and producers in the gallery it's a star product for the show
06:53he's out look at the day details on the screen the team that generates the most money from sales will win
07:02I think selling on the TV is hilarious I would never watch this in my life I would never hope to be associated
07:08with anyone that's ever bought anything from the TV but this is just fab and it's really good fun
07:13project manager Christina caused a strategy meeting what we're saying is that we're going
07:19for middle-range products okay and if we go outside that then we have to have good justification yeah
07:23maybe maybe you've got the freedom to do that if you've got justification for it maybe it's like
07:28medium medium and one high yeah brand consultant Katie has been working on the profile of their target
07:35buyer my imaginary consumer is Mavis I assume it's a Mavis because I assume it's someone who's got a
07:41massive bust who knits a lot who's got bugger all going on in their lives and spend their entire time
07:46watching the TV just for some sort of companionship I might be over representing sort of saddo bit but I
07:52think that's what we need to be doing we need to be talking and selling to Mavis the other team is led by
08:00Simon my official job title is entrepreneur and obviously that means risk-taking and I like to
08:06think of myself as someone that takes risks is that time for the the generic p.m. you know
08:12she's everything's awful remember sorry it's his second time as project manager it's about time is
08:19about time right the other thing we really need to think about it sorry shut up Simon's weaknesses are
08:26he doesn't really understand business as such I don't think I mean he doesn't come across to
08:30me like somebody who's got a broad knowledge of business he needs people to guide him constantly
08:35and in the previous tasks I've worked with him he's needed a lot of guidance because he ends up wasting
08:39time and asking irrelevant questions and all the rest of it well done well I think I'm asking the right
08:43questions I think you listen I'm listening I'm listening what did I just say you said well done and I want to
08:49give a pep talk no I didn't say that all we do is is we step into prime Peterborough mud as part of
08:56the task both project managers will have to make a crucial decision sir Alan's insisted that two team
09:04members must work as a double act while the other will have to perform alone because dogs don't wipe
09:09their feet cats don't wipe their feet and the kids don't wipe their feet either for Christina there's no
09:14doubt who her solo performer should be I really really want myself to be visible now and I have
09:19to be visible I'm have to push myself forward I want surrounded to really get to know me and I want
09:25you know and to do that I have to be extremely visible yeah Christina brings to the table a measure
09:31of desperation she demands attention she'll make sure she's there she's all being seen she's the one
09:38being had so it's very much the you know Christina show where hey lovely lovely lovely clean for so
09:48they've got your pieces on the other team Simon is delaying his decision until after his training
09:54session a chance to assess his teammates abilities okay hi what we have for you today I'm talking here
10:02today there's a problem you've got to keep talking okay okay listen to me we have the watch today
10:07which is a cotton-based map for your house indoor or outdoor we have it available in four colors for you
10:12what are they what are the colors yeah go on don't answer me while Trey practices Simon has a go at
10:20producing cat number three my sex 24.99 as producer his job is to feed his presenter information to help
10:27sell the product blue come on speed out blue you've got a flow man you can't just tell him what
10:35you want to do next right now I want you to now I want you to go through the color options remember
10:40that it's blue not gray blue yeah next I want you to go and demo the products for me that demo was
10:46fantastic let's do you know I mean you've got I don't know what you want him to say but you've got
10:50to get him to say it Simon's producing is not up to scratch at this date at all you need to tell the
10:57team what's coming next what they need to do and he's not doing any of that he's got anti-slip backing
11:02red is limited stock carpeting we've just been told that the terracotta is running out we do have
11:13limited stock left so if you want the terracotta you need to move now we didn't say terracotta you said red
11:18no I wasn't I said red you said red they said the wrong details you've got to get them to change
11:24it red brown sorry brown not terracotta brown not terracotta brown no red we've just finished the
11:30first practice session Simon was the producer and this chap bright agile mind was hopeless
11:38before the teams can sell they'll have to choose what they'll be selling they must pick from the
11:46channel stock of over 50,000 items this is called swing pro do you want to demonstrate it for me I
11:57will do if you like thank you very much Christina's strategy for her team is to go for mid-priced items
12:03right okay it's the bricky complete bricklaying kit okay this is a pack of two high waist slimming pants
12:17they fall just under your bust line and just above your knee 82% 92% sorry polyamide and 8% elastane
12:2892% what deluxe lightweight folding wheelchair which we have here
12:34still undecided who should perform alone Simon takes his turn to practice in front of the camera
12:47hi and welcome to this fun packed hour full of different products for your viewing
12:52this rug this washing mat contains fantastic technology which keeps the dirt on the inside
13:01actually go through the colors the green mat as I said one of my favorites personally if if you are
13:08if you just have a I'm just having a feel of this wonderful fabric it's not so nice and soft for a
13:13first attempt I didn't think it was that bad considering some people do media courses for
13:16three years in Lincoln or wherever and you know and and take a long time to grasp it with training
13:23complete Simon decides that the person most suited to the solo slot is Simon I think in this sort of
13:30task everybody wants to shine everybody wants the spotlight on them and I think that Simon's decision
13:36to present on his own is a dreadful mistake and it's based on vanity and I think it's a he's shown a
13:44weakness there selfishness and he's not thinking about the team but himself now it's time for Simon
13:53and his team to buy unlike the other team Simon's going for a risky strategy he's told his team to look
14:02out for expensive products that could make big money how much are these but high priced items are thin on
14:09the ground 400 3d decopage foam pads one millimeter these are difficult to get hold of and that size
14:20what do you use this one decopage is when you layer different images on top of each other so you get a
14:253d effect twin pack of gorilla glue gorilla glue gorilla glue 9.99 it's really an exercise for all ages low
14:34impact what's the retail on this the retail on the item is 69 pounds 99 name is convinced she's found
14:43the perfect high priced item probably the trampoline is they've been around so long I think the kind
14:48of the era for the trampoline is almost kind of gone I think that's really sellable and also the fact
14:56that the legs come off easily for storage all right I'm sorry okay yeah can we move on to the next
15:02one yep yeah deluxe folding wheelchair 199 99 okay so talk me through it he presses these two things
15:11there yeah I was always thinking in the back of my mind that I wanted to take a punt on one of the
15:16items I wanted to find a high priced item which we just sold a few of that would give the results a
15:21really big kick and I'm gonna think that might be the item it's a bit of a risk 7 p.m. at the hotel
15:30the teams examine for the first time the range of products they'll have to sell tomorrow but they
15:36won't be selling their own choices project manager Christina will sell though hits and Katie's selections
15:43a steam cleaning broom and a chocolate fountain for 24.99 though hit and Katie will get Christina's
15:52plastic foot spa at 9.99 and a 40-pound double pack of slimming pants oh they stretch oh they have my
16:00lovely pattern on them on the other team Trey and Naomi will sell Simon's choice of products
16:10guys come in how you doing good how you doing all right are you gonna reveal yours first oh
16:19covered up okay high drama put your stuff over here wheelchair put your stuff over here it's over
16:26there go on stick it down there yeah okay all right I'll talk to the big one okay this is my punt
16:35I went for three different price points right come sit down don't worry I've just seen a wheelchair
16:41Simon yes you have seen a wheelchair yeah well you're going for the disabled market with this
16:45no this is for people with elderly parents and the like do you not think it's a not a very very niche
16:51product no I don't think so the point is I don't like a wheelchair I don't need it I'm no use for a
16:56wheelchair thankfully I don't have anyone in my family has a need for a wheelchair I don't like the
17:01thing it's not something I want to buy it's not something that's relevant to me but it is something
17:05that's relevant to the market people are sitting at home people are not in room firm at home watching
17:09TV we want this during the day they will want this okay and it comes with a pump as well you can find the
17:26time that's not the kind of thing you're watching TV anything that's what I need a lightweight wheelchair
17:30been looking for one for ages I've got 200 pound in my pocket I'll buy one but if me and Naomi try
17:36our absolute best to sell it you never know there may just be some old nursing home watching
17:42faced with the prospect of selling a wheelchair it's their turn to show Simon what he'll have to
17:51demonstrate a self-assembly indoor trampoline I don't think Naomi trades particularly well on the
18:01product it's the sort of thing where you need an aerobics expert you need someone dressed up in
18:06leg warmers and armbands and to be you know just really toned body you need someone that looks the
18:11part to be exercising on it to show how it works how they can get fit doing it guys please let's
18:16have a concerted effort to get behind the chair and get behind everything we've got yeah I'll get
18:20in the chair we've got no choice but to sell it have we oh it's got a little pouch this is a unique
18:25selling point it's a risk if it pays off we're quids in mate okay if we don't my head's on the line
18:31so don't worry about it I don't want anyone's head to be on the line I don't want to lose another
18:34freaking fight well I've got an insurance task I've got an insurance contract against you
18:38because if we fuck up because of the chair it's not your fault is it 10 a.m. Peterborough in just
18:49a few hours the teams will go live on TV nationwide to sell their products but for Simon's team the
19:02worries about his wheelchair have not gone away both teams sit down with the channel to run through
19:26their products the first product I'll be going with the chocolate fountain yeah okay but you've
19:34gone for the phone pads how many project manager Simon is struggling with the finer points of the
19:40decoupage stickers chosen by Naomi for him to sell across the former craft I never heard of the bloody
19:47and it dates back to medieval times or prehistoric times when they used to do mosaics and stuff and
19:53it does that's true says who I said why don't you stop making up crap big problem they have is they
20:01don't actually know at this moment in time what decoupage is or how to use it or how to demo it so that
20:06might be really tricky to show they've also at this point requested no information on that so I'm not
20:12quite sure how they're gonna figure out what decoupage actually is can I ask you a question are you
20:22actually is Naomi gonna sit in it yes she is okay I'm just just to demonstrate how the foot plates
20:27working actually feels quite comfortable no I'm not joking I'm just just gonna be very careful because
20:32it's such a seven stick project I know we can't let you go on air and make fools of yourselves also
20:38balls of the channel with minutes to go the teams attempts to familiarize themselves with the products
20:51they'll be selling that looks quite good Mavis my consumer at home with the sort of ample boobs and
21:12not many friends and that would like to ring in and speak to lower just because he looks like a nice boy
21:16I think she'll go for the foot spa she might go for the steam clean so I think Mavis might do rather
21:22well in our section the teams are about to go live on air but there's one viewer not looking for foot
21:32spars or trampolines he's looking for his next apprentice what I'll be looking for is is to make
21:40sure they don't pick stupid items which they haven't got a hope in hell of selling but a high ticket value
21:45and they picked it for the wrong reason thinking if they sell lots they'll they'll win almost 4 p.m 15
21:51seconds the channel is trusting the teams with two of its prime selling hours
21:58you're gonna count me in can you hear me you guys I can hear you yep five four three two one zero and cue
22:17hi everybody thank you so much for joining me today and thank you for welcoming me okay what have you got
22:23in front of you so what have I got here for today and I'm really excited about this because as soon
22:27as you mention chocolate to me I have to get involved and we've got the chocolate fountain okay
22:32how does it work in terms of how does it work okay when you go and get it it'll come with a base like
22:38this okay what you just need to do is put this put this put this nozzle put this nozzle right which is
22:46here basically on here okay I could see this selling actually on tv if I turn it then anti-clockwise
22:55what will happen is that the chocolate will start getting sucked up through this fountain okay
23:00so here comes everybody it's just about to spill over so ready are you ready come on let's go let's go
23:06let's go and we have got chocolate how much of a chocolate moment is this it's like the
23:19right okay guys okay look back to the product okay because okay I really could stay here all day
23:24eating that chocolate okay how many more bloody times you're gonna say okay in terms of the price
23:29okay okay well we have got this at 24.99 okay okay oh my god ready to move christina okay cinderella
23:38steam broom okay what we're gonna go and do next all right what you need to do is you need to go and
23:43attach this all right so the way we do this it's a little bit complicated you have to forgive me because
23:49i've got nails and i'm not very good at it but what i'm doing literally and you probably can't see this
23:55is but you just pull right let me start again because i'm not very good at this
24:03so right so
24:09okay so
24:16right sorry about this everybody oh my god oh come on didn't you practice putting it in there
24:25wrapping it around oh this is this is pathetic
24:33so i'm lifting this up and i'm putting it on
24:39and we have got come on christina jesus christ
24:46oh sorry everybody i shouldn't have said that do apologize do apologize get her off get her off
24:52you're dying so all i'm gonna do is i'm gonna start this off
24:56what a bloody mess you're making it worse and it's not working have we plugged in here now
25:03oh jane switch the bloody thing on please right so what i'm gonna do is i'm just gonna run over
25:09dear oh dear oh dear they must be dying this tv company must be dying who would buy this now
25:16thank you so much everybody
25:22halfway through the hour and christina's team changes presenters
25:31i'm doing photos first
25:33photos first no you're doing pants first no i know pants photos then bring on lynn
25:41well done
25:43you're brilliant you're brilliant

27:31counting to intro in ten nine eight seven six five four three two one zero good afternoon and welcome to the
27:45ideal selection my name's naomi and i'm trey and we're here to show you some fantastic products
27:50this afternoon starting off with the rio precious legs hair removal kit followed by the fantastic deluxe
27:56lightweight foldable wheelchair let's start so our first product this afternoon guys is the fantastic
28:02precious legs rio precious legs naomi and trey wait for instructions from simon in the gallery
28:09i think it's about time i um tried it out and as you'd expect my legs are completely hair free so um
28:33looks like you're gonna have to step in tray okay here we go this is going to remove your hair gently
28:45and officially um efficiently get rid of some of your hair here a bit lighter though so you hold it
28:53on hold it on the skin again right you're gonna have to come up with a decision because you haven't
28:59made any money so far six minutes in you can imagine as a girl you've pretty got finer hair and less
29:03of it so it wouldn't take you long really to do it all i think it's a fantastic product okay i think
29:08we're going to move on because it's not selling okay you convert it i am converted and i think all the
29:13men should be converted to fantastic it really is a great product oh my god so here we are i've got
29:23all the detail up there for you moving on to our next product we've got this which is actually a
29:30fantastic article a fantastic product it's the it really is a great product this is a lightweight
29:36foldable wheelchair deluxe obviously what brain dead chose that slowly train slowly
29:44i mean only who's going to buy that on television in the absence of information from simon trey and
29:50naomi start to struggle so i i guess um so people are saying these things potentially for quite a long
29:57time i don't know if he's having a laugh that simon by by picking this for them i mean that is the
30:03worst item you would think about trying to sell on tv how can they get enthusiastic about it
30:09there you are that is that is very nice and it's very nice as well okay naomi why don't you sit in it
30:13so it is 199 pounds and 99 pence
30:22you've really got to get everyone organized on track because it's looking messy now and i'm getting
30:28very anxious i'm going to be honest with you one of the other main features in this is if you have
30:34a look at the back no problem yep you have in the back of this this is a good pouch this is a very
30:41good pouch pouch you have a pouch at the back that would be great for a mobile phone if you get
30:46your hands full mobile phone when we're like a bloody intravenous drip tray if lines are busy
30:51please keep trying you're envisioning on camera seven don't get him to say that because they're not
30:55if they are if they are if they are isn't they're not yet i know my grandad would be absolutely thrilled
31:01to have this yeah excellent
31:08now it's the turn of simon's team to change presenters unbelievable i'll be speaking to him
31:14when they get in the boardroom on that it's a joke hi and welcome back and we've got some lovely products
31:20to show you in the next half hour we got some decoupage sticky pads as well as a lovely little
31:25bouncer as well which would be good for exercise but let's start here with the decoupage pads what
31:30the hell is that you can turn this around now come on okay si i'm really going to push it now be
31:35excited about the decoupage these crafting people are really passionate about it okay uh and you know
31:40you should really uh think about getting them from us because they're very hard to get what what are
31:44they and in this pack you get 10 sheets 440 sticky pads per sheet this is gavin this is a joke
31:52i could take a little sticky pad here off peel it off the backing peel it off the backing paper
31:57there really good for intricate challenging designs and they're very intricate and they're challenging
32:03as well you are boring and the product is useless why don't when i show you a dead a demo
32:09for example here's one i didn't make earlier someone else made it for me thank god but it's a
32:15it's a lovely little sort of lilac flower and i've got a i've got a little uh a berry here here inside
32:20which i can show you um if i just wanted to build up for example the the the picture here i could
32:25i could take a i could take a little sticky pad here off peel it off the backing i need you to wrap up
32:31and move over to that to the next product we're going to walk over and show you our next item which is

35:00between them the teams have lost the channel tens of thousands of pounds
35:17now they return to london to face sir alan in the boardroom
35:30so
35:37so
35:42so
35:44so
35:52In the past 10 weeks or so, I've been relying upon Nick and Margaret to tell me what's gone on.
36:19I didn't have to rely upon them this time because I saw it myself.
36:23What I saw was the biggest load of toot I've ever seen in my life.
36:29I was embarrassed.
36:31Do you know how much this TV channel takes in the slots that they've allocated you?
36:37Thousands upon thousands of pounds.
36:42I got the results of what you took.
36:44It's a total bloody joke.
36:46Look, in both cases, you sold a tenth in money terms what they would expect to sell in those slots, right?
36:59And it's not just me talking.
37:01I've never known this before.
37:02You've got members of the public sending emails in.
37:05There's a Mr. Edward Devonshire here that says, where did you get these lousy presenters from?
37:11He's taken the time to go on his PC and send an email, and another lady, Dawn Green, just get rid of them.
37:20Let us have our normal presenters.
37:22My complaint to both teams is this.
37:27You should have, amongst yourselves, worked out who was best for the solo pitch.
37:32Simon, why did you take the solo slot?
37:37It made sense to me to have a couple, to have a girl helping out the guy presenting.
37:41Because in either category, you've got a product that's specifically aimed towards women.
37:45But you can't present, Simon.
37:46And neither can Trey, to be honest with you.
37:50And you should have recognised that weakness and taken the strength in your team.
37:54I'm not saying she's some Anna Ford sitting over there, but she's certainly better than you two.
37:59Make the best of a bad job, is what I say.
38:05Christina, the same may apply with you.
38:07You know, you fell apart in that steam cleaning thing, right?
38:12I don't think I fell apart.
38:13I think that the product didn't work, and I was told the feedback that I was given was that I handled it very well.
38:19You were fumbling around, trying to put a white thing on the top of the head of the thing.
38:24You poured a load of mud on the ground.
38:26You're sweeping around like that.
38:27The mud is actually being pushed over the edge of the side.
38:31And you're telling me you thought you'd done very well.
38:33I'm saying that the, you know, it should have been working when I got to it.
38:38In terms of, you know, bringing up the mud, it didn't.
38:40But, you know, that's down to the product.
38:42Despite you messing up, three people bought one.
38:47And you know what I want to do?
38:48Whatever comes out of this, I want you to deliver those three people to me.
38:51I'm going to take them to the university college hospital and find out what is wrong with their brain.
38:57I cannot believe it.
38:58I cannot believe it.
39:03Christina, you chose ladies' pants, for whatever you want to call them, for Lohit and Katie to sell.
39:11Yes, correct.
39:11Now, how did you expect Lohit to sit there and assist in selling the ladies' girdles?
39:20I mean, I felt for him, quite frankly, sitting there nodding.
39:23Oh, they come in medium, large and small.
39:26Oh, fine.
39:27Like as if he's interested.
39:28What else can he say?
39:30I think he did a good job.
39:31He did a good job kind of sitting there going, oh, really?
39:34But it was the banter that I thought they saw the idea.
39:38What banter can any woman have with a man about tight panty girdles?
39:44But, Sir Alan, you have to say that it was a comedy moment.
39:47Not comedy.
39:48I mean, they're selling.
39:49The channel wants you to sell.
39:51Nothing wrong with a little bit of lighthearted chit-chat between two people, but the credibility there.
39:57I mean, what will your customer looking in be thinking?
40:00I know what I was thinking, that poor sod standing there embarrassed.
40:07Simon, you chose the wheelchair, right?
40:11This is for them to sell.
40:12Yeah.
40:12Yeah?
40:15Can I just ask you, where was your brain on the wheelchair?
40:19I'll explain it to you.
40:20There's a lot of infirm and immobile people at home in the afternoon.
40:24They don't necessarily have to be paralysed.
40:26They don't necessarily have to be long-term injured.
40:29Okay?
40:29This is something that would target them specifically.
40:33And it worked.
40:34I think it worked well.
40:36Well, you sold one when you were on air.
40:39Okay.
40:39And one, I think, got sold as you walked off.
40:46Who chose those sticky little things for you?
40:49I chose them.
40:51I knew a little bit about decoupage and know that it's quite a specialist product.
40:54Who?
40:55Decoupage, it's layering pictures so you get a 3D effect in a card.
40:59Say that again.
41:00It's layering different pictures on top of each other in a card so you get like a 3D effect.
41:05It's quite a popular card.
41:06Yeah, right.
41:06And what's that got to do with the little sticky bits?
41:08They're the sticky bits that allow you to lift the paper and to layer it.
41:12And the trampoline, I have to tell you, this will go down.
41:17And I can't help but laugh because I nearly fell out of my chair.
41:24Your style jump.
41:26This is so pathetic that I have to laugh myself.
41:37And with all that, I want to tell you, you sold none of the trampoline.
41:46Nick, read out Eclipse total sales.
41:48They sold just £921.79 worth of product.
41:58Margaret.
41:59Stealth managed £1,339.10.
42:06You won.
42:08No, I'm not jumping up and down here because, as I said, it's 10% of what they normally would have expected in way of sales, quite frankly.
42:17You won.
42:18I think it was a bad win.
42:21I've got a treat for you now, which is very, very appropriate for this.
42:26You're going to go to a traditional Turkish bath.
42:29All right?
42:30Steam off, cool down and chill out.
42:33All right?
42:34I'll see you when it's time to talk about the next task.
42:37Off you go.
42:39Simon, your team's lost.
42:55We'll go into greater detail.
42:57Go away.
42:59Talk about it.
43:00Think about it.
43:01Come back.
43:01As you know, one of you will get fired.
43:05Off you go.
43:14For the winners, time for some serious luxury.
43:18OK, let's do a toast to us, guys.
43:23You've done so well.
43:24OK.
43:24Cheers to us.
43:25Well done.
43:26Team?
43:26Right, let's get in that steam room.
43:27OK.
43:28OK.
43:28That's really nice.
43:40Oh, this feels amazing.
43:47For the losers, a cup of tea in a caff.
43:50I don't want to upset you, Simon, but you were very unenthusiastic about your products.
44:00And on something like that, you have to, like, these are quite good and apparently they're
44:05really useful.
44:06Aren't really strong selling statements.
44:08Sorry I wasn't a good salesman.
44:09Anyway, I'm just saying that that might have been one of the reasons we didn't really sell
44:12much from there.
44:13I'm sure it definitely contributed.
44:15I'm sorry I let you guys down.
44:16But, you know, I'm not going to get into the habit of just crystallizing people for the
44:21sake of it.
44:21No, no, no.
44:22I don't think anything was horrific.
44:23If you want to, that's your, that's your, you've got to fight your own corner.
44:26Whatever you want to say, go ahead and say it.
44:28I don't mind.
44:29It is just stupid, you know.
44:30Of course you're going to point out things that went wrong.
44:33It's not a case of me going, Simon's absolutely bollocks.
44:36It's not what I'm going to do, but I'm going to express opinions and answer questions
44:39truthfully.
44:40I mean, a dead dog would have been more enthusiastic about that trampoline than Simon was yesterday.
44:46All I'm saying is I'm going to state my case for why I think I'm good for the job.
44:51I'm not going to get into mudslinging because I don't think it's going to do me any benefit.
44:54He just knows that we're going to blame him for bad producing and bad presenting.
44:58So he's just trying to save himself a bit of aggro.
45:00But if he gets called on it and if we get asked to comment on comment, it's nothing personal
45:05anyway.
45:05It's business.
45:05It's business.
45:08Like he said, everybody did a shite job.
45:10They showed me the bouncer, which I wasn't keen on at all.
45:12But just to promote harmony, I deliberately kept my mouth as closed as possible.
45:16Even though I knew that without a gymnast or a model to demonstrate it in full athletic
45:21gear, I knew it was going to be very hard to push it.
45:24So it was a dud product really.
45:25And I think that perhaps is what brought us down quite a bit.
45:31At least we gave him a good laugh.
45:32It doesn't look like he laughs enough for starters.
45:34Hello.
45:49Yes, Sir Alan.
45:53Sir Alan, we'll see you now.
45:54Do you know, one of the things that we have got to focus on here is looking at what this
46:21task is all about, okay?
46:24I wasn't asking you to really go and audition, you know, for a job in a television company,
46:29right?
46:30The task was all about selecting products and presenting them.
46:34Just so happens you were doing it on television, yeah?
46:37And products were key, absolutely key.
46:40Now, you chose the wheelchair.
46:43It was a risk.
46:44I'll admit it was a risk.
46:44I took a risk, but it was a character.
46:46Lucky risk because actually you sold two.
46:48Yeah, well, it wasn't lucky.
46:48It was 400 quid of the pathetic 900-odd pounds that you took.
46:52I chose it because I thought it was...
46:53I mean, God knows what would have happened if you didn't have the wheelchair.
46:55That's why I chose it, because I thought it was a bit...
46:56Well, come on, Simon.
46:57That's why you chose it.
46:58I didn't choose it.
46:59Good to say it after the event.
47:00With all due respect, I didn't choose it because I thought I wasn't going to sell
47:02none of it.
47:02I chose it because I thought I could sell it.
47:04Well, that's why I chose it.
47:05And I went out on a limb picking that.
47:08I think all three of you have got things to answer to here, okay?
47:13Anyway, fatal errors are being made here on product selection, in my view.
47:18And I think those fatal errors mainly lie over there with you two.
47:21You chose rubbish because his product, if you like, won the day because, you know,
47:27£921, including VAT, of which 450 of it was something to do with the wheelchairs.
47:34The leg hair removers sold ten items.
47:39Your stuff, no trampolines, four foam pads, £32 worth.
47:45He chose much better products for you, okay?
47:48It's getting to that time now in this process, ten weeks on, that I've got to start thinking
48:01about who has got the capability of working for me, yeah?
48:05To take this job on, yeah?
48:07It's a difficult one.
48:09I'm going to take some more time to think about this, okay?
48:12Would you please go outside and I'll call you back in later where we're going to make
48:17a decision on which one of you is going to get fired, okay?
48:25In a way, Simon, you kind of feel sorry for him a little bit.
48:29He looks like a bit of a kid, but then he does talk some sense sometimes, doesn't he?
48:33I mean, you know, that's why I asked him again to run past me the rationale of why he chose
48:39the products.
48:39And the ones that he chose, they sold quite well, or the lion's shirt.
48:44The one they chose for him was no good.
48:46The annoying thing is, he got on with it, they complain.
48:49Oh, but I mean, wheelchair, this, that, and the other.
48:51We could get on with it, no?
48:52The other point is, where else has Naomi shone?
48:56All right, so she's a good presenter, fine.
48:59And next, is she good at selling?
49:02Not face-to-face, no.
49:03What happened when she was a PM, Margaret?
49:05She was a PM on that service task, and she went to pieces completely.
49:08When it started going wrong in Richmond, she went...
49:10Lost control of it.
49:11Lost control.
49:11Anyway, I think I've got enough to think about here.
49:15I'm going to get them back in.
49:16I'm going to ask them, you know, about leadership and support of each other, and see where we
49:20go from here.
49:25Hello?
49:25Yes, uh, Frances, send the, uh, Thriven back in, please.
49:29Yes, Sir Alan.
49:31Sir Alan's ready for you now.
49:33My view is, in a way, you know, I felt Simon has been left a little bit out in the cold.
49:55Do you think, Simon, that you've been let down by these two?
49:59In a way, yes.
50:00Why?
50:01Elaborate on them.
50:02Um, I think they did some things very well, and I think they were very good at some things.
50:06There were other things they could have done better on.
50:08For example, the chair.
50:09When I brought the chair back, they were very negative on the chair, before I'd even had
50:12a chance to pitch it.
50:13And it was very difficult to fight that antipathy from the word go.
50:17Sir Alan.
50:17Can I finish?
50:18Yeah, come.
50:19To the next day.
50:20And they basically undermined me from the word go.
50:22Can I finish, please?
50:23Sir Alan.
50:24And, you know, it was very hard to get them behind it, because I'd chosen it on what I thought
50:28were quite rational reasons.
50:29I tried to pick something which I thought the demographic at that time would like, and
50:34I had very minimal support from them.
50:35And Naomi just basically made a mockery of the product, and it was very hard to get them.
50:39So what you're saying is they didn't back you?
50:41No.
50:42Is that what you're saying?
50:42Yeah.
50:43They had no enthusiasm.
50:43They didn't.
50:44They didn't.
50:44And it was very difficult.
50:45Hold on.
50:45Do you think that was the case?
50:46You had no enthusiasm on the product you chose for?
50:49When we got back, we were both like, oops, what have you chosen?
50:53Because it's quite a specialist.
50:54But was you not, I heard that you were kind of like, a wheelchair?
50:58You've got to be kidding.
50:59We were surprised to have it, but there was support.
51:01After it, it was about 10 minutes of talking about it, and I turned around and go, well,
51:04we'll sell it.
51:05We'll sell it.
51:05The following morning, you were still trying to seek approval, at which point I was like,
51:09guys, let's stop bickering about it.
51:11Let's get on and sell it.
51:12No, you did.
51:12That's a lie.
51:13And you were still slating the wheelchair the next morning.
51:15The thing is, my observation is this.
51:19Although he made a dickhead of himself, you chose, wrongly, the trampoline.
51:23At least he did it.
51:25At least he got on there as the team leader.
51:27And he's fiddling around with his fingers on these sticky things that you found for him.
51:31At least he tried.
51:32At least he did it.
51:33So, can I just ask you one question?
51:35You two in isolation.
51:37Was he a good team leader in this task or not?
51:39I don't think he delegated or time managed particularly well.
51:43Did he throw his heart and soul into what he was trying to do, do you think?
51:47I think he threw his heart and soul maybe into the TV element of it, but not into...
51:53Did Trey throw his heart and soul into anything, as far as you're concerned?
51:56Or was he a little bit negative?
51:58Trey was negative on the first night, but he definitely turned it around.
52:01He recognised he wasn't good at something, took it on the chin and decided he was going to...
52:04He didn't come forward and agree with me that he's not good on anything.
52:09No, I told you I'm not a presenter.
52:11I mean, I was nervous as hell.
52:12I was telling Naomi from the night before.
52:14And I said to her, look, you know what, I'm just going to have to do it.
52:16We're just going to forget everything else.
52:17I'm not going to care how I look, whatever.
52:18I'm just going to do it the best that I can.
52:20And that's what I did.
52:21I went out there and did the best that I could, even with the wheelchair.
52:23And I said to you beforehand, this is not about auditioning to be TV presenters.
52:29You are not looking for a TV career here.
52:32This is about selecting products and selling them.
52:35From where I sit, you know, he selected the products that actually brought in a lion's share of the 900 quid.
52:42And you didn't.
52:47Trey, I get the feeling that you want to win this.
52:53I'm worried that you want to win it for the wrong reasons.
52:56You know, it's kind of like, I went there.
52:59I'd done it.
53:00I conquered.
53:01I beat everybody.
53:02But I don't really want his job.
53:04Because I'm telling you, if you succeed in going forward here, yeah, if you have got a job with me, you are going to stay.
53:13No one's going to make a fall out of me.
53:16No one's making a bloody fall out of me.
53:18Fair enough.
53:19Do you understand?
53:20Yes, I do.
53:21Okay, I'll tell you why I want to work for you.
53:22For me, I want to do something great with my life.
53:24I want business grandeur.
53:26I don't want business mediocrity.
53:27And it's not about just coming here to try and beat everyone.
53:30If I get a job with your organisation, it gives me the chance to actually work on a level such as yours.
53:34I want to keep developing.
53:36I haven't had that ability.
53:37I've worked on different levels over the years.
53:39Yeah, good speech.
53:42Listen, I'm going to be talking now.
53:44And I really don't want any further interruption.
53:46Because one of you is going to go in the next few minutes.
53:51Naomi, I don't dispute that you have abilities to perhaps present things.
53:58Because after all, what you do for a job is to go and pitch to advertising agencies and all that stuff.
54:04I don't feel that you're a great salesperson.
54:07And there's a distinct difference between presenting and selling.
54:11You clearly have not been strong in product selection either.
54:14Simon, Margaret and Nick have said to me, a bit of a kid.
54:27Yet, when pressurised, when put under pressure, you do talk out for yourself.
54:32But, you know, are you really a shrewd enough nut for me?
54:36Trey, you're a man that doesn't like criticism.
54:44I can see that.
54:45And I don't like that, to be honest with you.
54:48I don't like that at all.
54:49Because I haven't got the time for it.
54:51I would be your boss.
54:52I don't need any back chat from anybody.
54:55At my time of life now, I don't need any arguing, yeah?
54:58It's as simple as that.
54:59I'm not looking for people to cause me aggravation.
55:02For that reason, Trey, you're giving me extreme difficulty letting you stay in this contest.
55:17But I've made my decision.
55:20Naomi, you chose bad products.
55:24The main reason why this task wasn't won by your team.
55:28So, Naomi, with regret, you're fucked.
55:31I am relying upon you in the next process of this to have taken on board what's gone on.
56:01I'm not going to put up with any more slips.
56:06I mean, you've had your last chance.
56:08This is your last chance, quite frankly.
56:10All right?
56:12Off you go.
56:13OK, thank you.
56:14Back at the house, the winning team wait to find out who's been fired.
56:26Top choice would be Simon.
56:28Deserves to go.
56:30And for his second, I think, Trey.
56:31There's no way that Simon's going to last.
56:34He's gone.
56:35You know, I'm absolutely sure of that.
56:38All right, it took a litre for you with you.
56:44Do you fancy it?
56:46Mm-hmm.
56:46Yeah.
56:47I wanted to be PM.
56:49What?
56:50Hi, guys.
56:52Wow.
56:53I don't do diving around, but at this stage of the game.
56:57It's not that much going to be.
56:59It's the last five.
57:00Wow, cheers.
57:01Five men standing.
57:02It's irritating that I got fired when Simon didn't get fired on the basis of the performance
57:14of this task.
57:14Simon really didn't do anything in this task other than present really badly, having told
57:19us that he's had public speaking lessons and this, that, and the other.
57:23He didn't know his products.
57:24He really let us down.
57:26He's a nice enough guy, but I really wouldn't employ him.
57:32One job, now just five candidates.
57:37Sir Alan's search for his apprentice continues.
57:42Next week on The Apprentice.
57:44Today is going to be a grueling interview process.
57:48You worry me.
57:49I do.
57:50I earn 90k a year.
57:51I work for a global business consultancy.
57:53I've got a gold card for BA.
57:55I didn't get to where I've got to now, sitting at home playing mummy.
57:58You're a nice chap.
57:59Very steady Eddie.
58:00You don't excite me.
58:01You're a bit boring.
58:02You beat the show.
58:04I heard he was a bulldog.
58:05I'm relentless.
58:06There's no way that anybody can ever say to me, you can't do something.
58:09So you didn't Google Alan?
58:11No, I didn't.
58:12Do you think you should have done it?
58:13I probably should have, yeah.
58:15It's Sir Alan's final shakeout.
58:17This is where I'm going to pick the two finalists, yeah?
58:22So three people are going.
58:23So Naomi makes her next TV appearance.
58:32Fortunately, Adrian Childs will be taking care of the presentation duties.
58:36The Apprentice, you're fired, is starting over on BBC Two next.
