6 July - National weather forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, a very good morning to you. It's quite muggy out there for some of us to kick
00:05off this second half of the weekend. It's reasonably damp and cloudy as well because
00:10low pressure is in charge throughout much of today. There are a few weather fronts around
00:15and we've particularly got our eyes on this one moving across England and Wales first
00:19thing that could start to provide some quite intense downpours of rain, particularly heavily
00:23around the Humber and Wash regions. That will generally move south eastwards and break into
00:28showers as we head throughout the day. Some of those could turn thundery with hail and
00:32quite intense downpours of rain, so it's worth taking care across eastern England today.
00:37A scattering of showers elsewhere, but the sunshine should break through for northern Scotland
00:40later on in the afternoon. But with a brisk northwesterly wind coming in, it's going to
00:45feel quite cool around places here, 16, 18 degrees Celsius as the highs. There's a touch more
00:51warmth in the south, so 23, 24 degrees Celsius is possible here.
00:58The wind will continue to push their way southwards as we move into the evening and overnight period,
01:02the wind intensifying a bit through the north channel, gusts of 40, 45 miles an hour possible
01:07here for a time. Generally though, there will be some clear spells around this evening and
01:12with that northwesterly wind starting to filter in some fresher conditions, tonight should be
01:17a touch more comfortable for sleeping in many places, temperatures in towns and cities dropping
01:22back to 12 to 14 degrees Celsius. There will be a touch of early morning rain across areas
01:29of southern England and parts of Wales, and showers will tend to always linger around north
01:33sea coasts tomorrow and some further around north-western areas of Scotland. But generally,
01:39for Wales, western England, the sunshine should break through more readily tomorrow, and particularly
01:44compared to the widely cloudy skies we've seen over the weekends. That will be much brighter
01:49for many of us. Temperatures again ranging between 17 and 23 degrees Celsius, but we do hold on to
01:56that quite brisk northwesterly wind, so probably feeling cooler than what these temperatures may
02:01suggest when you do eventually step outside at all. It's turning drier in the southwest because we have
02:09high pressure beginning to build its way in from the Azores, and whilst there's always the potential
02:13for fronts to slip into Scotland, Northern Ireland over the next few days, this high really is looking
02:18like it wants to build in a bit more widely across the UK, certainly from mid-week onwards. So that
02:24should lead to fewer showers, more sunny spells, and also climbing temperatures. Exactly how high?
