Hello there, a very good afternoon to you. This festive season has been less white and
00:05
more grey for many of us. Quite overcast skies to start off Boxing Day, particularly across
00:11
central and southern areas. This cloud has certainly been low enough to provide quite
00:14
a lot of mist and murk around, some reduced visibility in places. Some brighter skies
00:19
for parts of Wales up towards areas of Durham, but further towards the north we've got this
00:24
band of rain in play. There's been a few heavy bursts for Northern Ireland, but into this
00:28
afternoon the rain band should slowly push its way further northwards and it will turn
00:31
drier here. But for Scotland, that rain will be on and off throughout a good portion of
00:36
the day, quite damp and drizzly. Away from the far north, maybe up into the Northern
00:39
Isles, we'll see a few brighter spells. Parts of north-east England should hold on to the
00:44
best of the sunshine, but elsewhere, further towards the south, that cloud is really going
00:47
to infill. Temperatures slightly on the mild side for the time of year, ranging between
00:52
9 and 11 degrees Celsius. As we head into the overnight period, this rain band will
00:58
still be in play for Scotland. Again, it's going to be quite a damp, drizzly night to
01:02
come here. Again, just pushing slightly further towards the north, across the Highlands, into
01:06
the Outer Hebrides, up towards Orkney later on as well. For Northern Ireland, England
01:10
and Wales though, that cloud is going to lower. There's going to be a lot of mist and murk
01:13
around once again. Hill fog in places, so some reduced visibility as we start off Friday
01:18
morning. Temperatures, because of that cloud though, are not going to drop too far for
01:22
most of us, generally around 6, 4 degrees Celsius, but we might just drop into some
01:27
low single figures in sheltered rural areas. Do be aware, first thing then, with that mist
01:33
and murk in play, that there could be some localised travel issues on Friday morning
01:37
if you are planning on travelling at all on the roads or elsewhere. For much of England,
01:42
Wales and Northern Ireland, that grey theme is really going to persist right throughout
01:46
Friday. There could be the odd spot of drizzle around some hills and coastal districts as
01:50
well. The rain band in the north will come and go once again, mainly limited to the far
01:54
northwest, with eastern Scotland perhaps now seeing the greatest chance on Friday of a
01:58
few sunnier spells in there. Because of the lack of sunshine though, for most of us, temperatures
02:03
are on a slowly downwards trend, so most of us now into single figures, but we might just
02:09
skirt into double digits for parts of Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and the far north
02:13
of England as well. There's going to be very slow progress, very little change in this
02:18
theme, as we head into Friday evening and even into the weekend. It is going to take
02:23
quite a bit of time before we eventually see some slightly brighter spells emerging. That
02:27
will hopefully come for a few more northwestern sights on Saturday, but it will take until
02:31
Sunday for the southeast to see a touch more sunshine in there. It is worth noting though,
02:36
into the new working week, it is looking like it could turn much more unsettled, particularly
02:40
across areas of Scotland, some strong winds, maybe even some sleet and snow around. So
02:45
it is worth staying up to date with the forecast as we head towards New Year, to see if any
02:49
of your plans might be affected from that. We'll have plenty more updates on that across
02:54
our social media channels as well here on the YouTube channel, so do subscribe and we'll
02:58
see you again here later on. Bye bye.
