00:00Hello there, very good morning to you. Quite misty and murky scenes greeting many of us

00:06this morning. Although high pressure is in charge across most areas of the UK it is trapping

00:11quite a lot of clouds underneath it and resulting in anti-cyclonic gloom. Some of this is quite

00:17dense mist and fog patches so it is worth taking care if you're about to step outside

00:22and travel anywhere. There could be some issues on the roads and other surfaces due to the

00:26reductions in visibility around. This cloud will be thick enough to produce outbreaks

00:30of drizzle in places the most persistent rain across the far north-west of Scotland. Best

00:34chance of some brightness may be eastern Scotland, parts of eastern England. For some of us it

00:39certainly will feel quite cool underneath the most persistent of the cloud particularly

00:43across parts of the south and east where temperatures will struggle much above 6 or 7 degrees Celsius

00:48but a slightly milder south-westerly flow could allow us double digits for parts of

00:53Northern Ireland, Northern England into central southern Scotland as well. Some of this mist

00:58will again turn quite dense and thick in places as we move throughout this evening and overnight

01:04so again further reductions in visibility are possible for many of us with outbreaks

01:08of drizzle. But signs of a change in the north with this frontal system slowly pushing its

01:12way southwards moving into the central belt parts of Northern Ireland come dawn on Saturday.

01:17With the clearing skies across the far north of Scotland we could see a touch of patchy

01:20frost in some rural areas to kick off the day here but underneath the cloud elsewhere

01:25temperatures will be staying up around 4 to 8 degrees Celsius. We'll be watching then

01:30on Saturday as this band of rain slowly moves its way southwards and I do mean very slowly

01:36but to the north of that we will start to see the introduction of those sunnier brighter

01:40spells perhaps into the far north of Northern Ireland into the afternoon as well. Behind

01:45that we'll see blustery showers for the north of Scotland with gales around coastal areas

01:49most of England and Wales though and it's going to be another grey drab and dull day.

01:53Further areas of mist could linger right throughout the day as well so murky in places. Temperatures

01:59again struggling much for 7 degrees Celsius in the south east again some localised spots

02:04may just climb towards 9 or 10 degrees Celsius. It is worth staying up to date with the forecast

02:10as we head towards New Year's. Into the new week it's looking like things could turn unsettled

02:15particularly across parts of Scotland where there's the risk of some heavy rain strong

02:19winds maybe even snow at times as well so some New Year's celebrations may be disrupted
