Hello there, very good morning to you if you're planning on stepping outside for a Boxing
00:04
Day walk today to work off some of that Christmas food. For some of you at least, I can promise
00:09
dry conditions. That's if you're in the South, where we've got high pressure spreading in
00:13
from continental Europe to keep things mostly dry and fine. But in the North, this cold
00:17
front has moved its way in and that is providing outbreaks of rain and drizzle across areas
00:22
of Scotland and Northern Ireland. This rain band will gradually push its way northwards
00:27
during the day, so hopefully it should turn drier for Northern Ireland into the afternoon.
00:31
But for Scotland, it's going to be rather grey, dreary and dull, unfortunately. The
00:36
best chances of sunshine for parts of eastern England, maybe north-eastern Wales as well.
00:40
But if you're to the South of this rain band, it is going to be another relatively mild
00:43
day, temperatures of 10 to 11 degrees Celsius. But to the North of the rain, we're seeing
00:48
some slightly cooler conditions move their way in, so 7, 8 degrees as your highs here.
00:55
The rain band is going to be quite slow moving this evening and overnight, so particularly
01:00
for parts of the Highlands into the Western Isles, also parts of Auckland later on as
01:04
well, continuing to see those outbreaks of rain. A few spots of drizzle are possible
01:08
further towards the South, but it will generally be a drier night to come here. Some fog patches
01:12
around in places to watch out for as well. Underneath all the cloud, it's not going to
01:17
be too chilly of a night. Temperatures generally around 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, perhaps closer
01:22
towards 3 or 4 in Northern Scotland, but certainly for all of us, it should be frost-free
01:27
till we kick off Friday morning. Generally on Friday, it is a very similar picture for
01:33
us all. The rain band in the North will have eased off a touch, so generally lighter and
01:38
patchier in nature, a few drier spells in there to get out and about in. Again, quite
01:43
cloudy for Northern Ireland, England and Wales, some drizzle possible around coasts or over
01:48
the mountains and hills. With the lack of sunshine though, our temperatures are going
01:53
to take a slight dip down on Friday, now a bit closer towards average for the time of
01:58
year, 8 or 9 degrees Celsius, perhaps just climbing into double digits still for parts
02:03
of Northern Ireland and into the central belt of Scotland. Any signs of a change from this
02:09
relatively similar pattern? Well, into the weekend, this band of rain in the North that's
02:14
associated with the frontal systems will gradually spread its way towards the South
02:19
East, and behind that, we will start to see that introduction of some cooler but also
02:24
clearer conditions. So on Saturday, the rain looks like it will transfer further towards
02:29
the South, whereas behind it, we'll see some sunnier spells developing and hopefully that
02:33
sunshine will arrive across more Southeastern areas as we head into Sunday. But we'll have
02:38
plenty more updates on what you can expect this weekend, so do stay up to date with things.
02:42
Otherwise, I hope you have a lovely Boxing Day. Bye-bye.
