Some fine weather on the way this weekend and it'll be turning warmer too. Sunday could see a change with more cloud in the west and then the rising temperatures and humidity could create thunderstorms later. Alex Deakin has the latest.

Hello. Welcome to your weekend
00:02
weather from the Met Office.
00:03
If you've been after some warm and
00:05
sunny weather this June,
00:07
well, you may be in luck.
00:08
Our weather is changing.
00:10
It could get pretty hot next week.
00:12
But for the time being, it's all
00:14
about things just warming up a
00:15
touch. And perhaps the most
00:17
important factor, it's been a very
00:19
wet June.
00:20
So something a bit drier for the
00:21
weekend and many of us will finally
00:24
see some sunny spells.
00:25
What's going on?
00:26
Well, we've replaced low pressure
00:28
with high pressure.
00:29
This is what we've been missing.
00:30
It's moving in through Friday,
00:32
calming the weather down.
00:33
And this high promises the vast
00:35
majority a fine day on
00:37
Saturday.
00:38
Under clear skies, it will be a bit
00:40
of a chilly start, perhaps.
00:41
But most places, as I say, will
00:43
start off with some sunshine.
00:45
There's the possibility of one or
00:46
two showers across northwest
00:48
Scotland, particularly over the
00:49
Northern Isles. But for most, it's
00:51
dry. It's fine.
00:52
Some cloud will bubble up through
00:53
the day, but it's a classic
00:55
summer's day, if you like.
00:57
Maybe a bit of a breeze blowing
00:58
across the southwest and
01:00
the coasts will be a little bit
01:01
cooler. But inland, some
01:03
warmth, certainly compared to
01:04
recent days, more widely
01:06
see temperatures getting into the
01:08
low 20s.
01:09
As I said, the coast, perhaps a
01:10
little bit cooler.
01:11
UV levels are likely to be high
01:14
in many areas, though.
01:15
So just take note of that.
01:16
It's been a while since we've seen
01:17
any sunshine.
01:18
So make sure you apply the
01:20
sunscreen.
01:20
Pollen levels could also be high
01:22
or very high across some parts of
01:24
the country.
01:25
How long will it last?
01:26
Well, the high tries to hang on,
01:27
but notice low pressure is
01:29
just edging in.
01:30
And I do mean edging in as we go
01:32
into Sunday. Some uncertainty
01:33
about the timing of this
01:35
weather, for instance, when it
01:36
brings cloud and rain.
01:37
But certainly a cloudier day, it
01:39
looks like on Sunday for Northern
01:40
Ireland, Wales and southwest
01:42
England, with the threat of
01:43
showers. But for the Midlands,
01:44
eastern Northern England, most of
01:46
Scotland, looking like another
01:47
mostly dry, bright day.
01:49
The sunshine will turn more hazy.
01:51
And as you can see, there is the
01:52
risk of some showers breaking
01:54
out further east as we go
01:56
through the day.
01:57
And that's the big question mark
01:58
because temperatures are going to
01:59
be rising.
02:00
The heat and humidity is
02:02
getting turned up through the
02:03
weekend. So with some sunshine
02:05
more widely into the 20s on
02:07
Sunday and perhaps even
02:09
a little bit higher than that, of
02:10
course, parts of the southeast,
02:12
maybe the high 20s, something we
02:13
haven't seen for quite some time.
02:15
But that heat and humidity does
02:17
then bring the threat of some
02:19
thunderstorms.
02:20
And we do, in fact, already have a
02:21
warning out for Sunday and into
02:23
Monday. The risk of some
02:24
torrential downpours is the heat
02:26
and humidity could spark some big
02:28
thunderstorms, especially so on
02:30
Sunday night and into Monday.
02:32
Next week, we could see more of
02:33
these and we could see those
02:35
temperatures rising even
02:37
further.
02:38
There's a lot going on with the
02:39
weather at the moment.
02:39
So the best thing to do is stay up
02:41
to date with all of the Met
02:43
Office outputs across social
02:45
media, on YouTube, download
02:47
our app and make sure you check
02:49
the updates on our website.
