Hello, welcome to your weekend forecast from the Met Office.
00:03
Heading to a firework display this weekend. Be prepared for it to be
00:07
soggy, certainly on the foot and there's likely to be some rain in places as well
00:12
during the evenings and it could be quite gusty as well. So some firework
00:16
displays
00:16
could be affected by the weather certainly. It won't rain all weekend everywhere,
00:20
there will be
00:21
some drier and brighter spells. But the main themes, as I say, after
00:24
it's been a largely dry week, there's some wet weather to come on both Saturday
00:29
and Sunday and Friday night as well. With wet and windy weather in the forecast, you'd
00:32
expect to see
00:33
low pressure dominating and this one certainly controlling the weather
00:36
through Friday and Saturday. The isobar squeezing together across the south
00:40
and the far north. It will be windy in these areas and where these weather fronts
00:44
lie, well they'll bring persistent
00:46
and at times some heavy rain. One low ebbs away for Sunday but another one starts to
00:51
push in later on. So the weather doesn't really like settling down, although
00:55
Sunday will probably be
00:57
for most of us, the drier of the two days this weekend.
01:00
Let's rewind and go through with some detail then looking at Friday evening
01:04
first of all. If you're heading out to
01:05
fireworks on Friday then, as I said, be prepared for some rain.
01:09
Maybe a largely dry evening across parts of eastern England but elsewhere
01:12
bound of, in places, heavy rain. Look at those brighter colours there
01:16
sweeping in from the west. A bit misty and murky in a few spots. Quite blustery too,
01:21
especially across southern parts of the country. It won't be particularly cold certainly
01:25
compared to
01:26
many evenings through this week. Fast forward to Saturday, you can see low
01:30
pressure in control, rain bands swirling round.
01:32
Some uncertainty about the position of this rain across Wales and western England
01:36
but where it sits it could cause some problems because we've had
01:39
a lot of rain recently so there's the potential for some flooding,
01:42
disruption to transport and it also looks very wet across parts of eastern
01:46
Scotland on Saturday
01:48
too. So just something to be aware of. There could be some problems this weekend
01:52
as more rain falls but equally it won't rain everywhere.
01:56
Maybe something a bit drier and brighter on Saturday across parts of northern England
01:59
and perhaps later on southern Scotland. Temperature wise, well a bit higher than they have been
02:03
through this week but of course it's not going to feel particularly mild
02:06
with the wind and the rain in most quarters. Now that wet and windy weather is likely to
02:11
persist across parts of England and Wales on Saturday evening again
02:14
through northern Scotland also. So again if you've got plans
02:18
for fireworks, just bear that in mind. It could get very windy on the south coast
02:22
also later on on Saturday. By the time we get to
02:26
Sunday this area of low pressure is starting to ebb away. The ice bar is just spacing out a
02:31
little bit so
02:32
it shouldn't be as windy on Sunday and perhaps not as wet
02:35
either but when low pressure is this close there's always going to be some showers
02:39
across the country but perhaps
02:40
something a little bit drier and brighter through parts of Wales and the Midlands.
02:45
A band of rain may be lingering across parts of the south but there is some uncertainty about the
02:49
position of that and the rain
02:50
hopefully also easing across parts of eastern Scotland although again there will still be a
02:55
few showers
02:56
around here to come. So a bit of brightness here and there on Sunday but
03:00
still quite breezy and again it's going to feel quite cool despite temperatures
03:04
around about average for the time of year 10
03:06
to maybe getting into the low teens across parts of the south.
03:09
Maybe not as much wet weather around on Sunday evening but still some showers to
03:13
come
03:14
and overall as I said the main themes for the weekend there will be spells of wet
03:17
and windy weather. Stay up to date with the very latest Met Office warnings
