Hello. Another weekend forecast where the main features of the weather will be wind
00:05
and rain. But unlike pretty much every weekend in February, neither look to be particularly
00:10
extreme or severe at this stage. Having said that, any extra rain falling after such a
00:16
wet February could cause some further problems. And there will be more rain this weekend,
00:20
particularly in the west on Saturday. Parts of the east staying largely dry. That rain
00:25
likely to pep up on Saturday night. And it's also going to turn windy through the day and
00:30
night during Saturday. It stays blustery into Sunday with some sunshine, but also some heavy
00:36
showers coming in too. Let's take a look at the bigger picture, because as you might imagine
00:41
with this kind of forecast, it's low pressure that's dominating. It's this developing feature
00:46
actually out towards the northwest of the UK that we need to keep an eye on. Heading
00:50
up towards the northwest, but the isobars pinching together as a result and weather
00:55
fronts moving in. Now, this first weather front's just bringing some patchy rain across
01:00
parts of the east for a time on Saturday morning. But once that's gone, as I said at the start,
01:05
large parts of eastern Britain for most of Saturday will be dry. Not much rain across
01:09
the southwest either. But that weather front, that second weather front coming in, will
01:13
be bringing more and more rain across western Scotland and Northern Ireland by the afternoon.
01:18
And eventually it'll turn up in western parts of England and Wales. And as that arrives,
01:22
the winds also start to increase. Some brighter spells across the east come Saturday afternoon
01:28
perhaps, and it is turning milder. It's been a cold week. The temperature's by and large
01:31
in single figures, double digits possible. And if we see any brighter skies, well, we
01:36
could even get into the teens in a few places. That weather front really peps up on Saturday
01:40
night. Some brighter colours you'll notice there, particularly over hills and mountains
01:44
in the west. So that is something we need to keep a close eye on, of course, because
01:48
it was such a wet February, the ground is still saturated and any extra rain falling
01:52
could cause some further issues. But that cold front does then move through and then
01:57
we're left with sunshine and showers for Sunday. The showers like to be heavy and blustery
02:02
with the winds swinging in from the west. That's where we'll see most of the showers.
02:07
Some though will get to the east and those showers will be heavy and possibly thundery
02:11
in places as well. But chiefly, they'll be of rain, perhaps hail at times. It will be
02:15
blustery, which means the showers will at least be moving through. Gusty winds on and
02:20
off throughout Saturday night and Sunday. And again, reasonably mild, certainly milder
02:24
than it has been for much of this week with temperatures single figures across Scotland,
02:28
Northern Ireland, but double digits maybe into the teens across parts of the south.
02:34
Getting the sunshine out of the wind, it shouldn't feel too bad, but those showers will never
02:38
be too far away. So a mixed picture this weekend. Yes, there's more wet and windy weather to
02:42
come, but hopefully not as extreme or as severe as many of the weekends through February.
