00:00Hi there and welcome to the Met Office weekend weather forecast.
00:03A blustery weekend to come for all of us and with some heavy rain around, although not
00:09necessarily for those areas that do need some rain.
00:12We're seeing high pressure retreat for a time, allowing low pressure to pass through
00:16northern Scotland and these weather fronts will sink south as well, bringing to an end
00:21the sunshine and the warmth that we've had as we've ended the week across much of England
00:26and Wales.
00:27A different feel to things on Saturday morning, extensive cloud cover, outbreaks of rain particularly
00:31across western parts of the UK, those spells of rain on and off, but continuing to be persistent
00:37across western Scotland, particularly the hills, having seen a wet day on Friday, that could
00:43cause some issues, especially given the fact that it's holiday season, the schools breaking
00:48up across Scotland, so potentially busier for western Scotland than normal.
00:55And it's going to turn increasingly wet towards the south-west of England, with some heavy
00:59rain particularly over the moors.
01:01Again, one or two issues possible here, although the ground, unlike western Scotland, relatively
01:08dry.
01:09This accompanied by a strong wind through the weekend, not ideal for people who are camping.
01:15Now, elsewhere across the UK, it is drier and for eastern parts of the country, not much
01:21rain at all.
01:22More on that in a moment.
01:23There will be some cloud breaks actually developing through central and south-eastern areas.
01:27And it's going to be relatively humid in the south, temperatures reaching the mid-twenties.
01:31And we've got that humid feel continuing, but fresher towards the north-west, with a strong
01:36wind continuing to blow for the north and north-west of Scotland in particular.
01:40Fast forward to Sunday, and again, it's a cloudy start to the day.
01:44Further spells of rain persistent across the north-east of Scotland, some low cloud here.
01:49Elsewhere, it's more showers than longer spells of rain, and it will brighten up into the afternoon.
01:54Chance of a heavy downpour in the south-east, because we've still got some of that humidity,
01:58perhaps even a thunderstorm.
02:00But, by and large, many places will end up drier by the end of the day.
02:04We've just got those showers moving into western areas.
02:07And it's going to feel a bit cooler, I think, with this north-west air flow, as low pressure
02:12pulls away.
02:13Now, here's a summary of the rainfall for Saturday and Sunday, the 48-hour rain accumulations.
02:19And as you can see, it's western hills that catch most of the rain, 25 to 50 or more millimetres.
02:26That's why Friday and Saturday we've got this yellow warning for western Scotland.
02:30But there are these large blank areas, so that indicates that some parts of central and eastern
02:36UK will barely see a drop of rain through Saturday and Sunday.
02:40And those are the areas that do need the rain at the moment.
02:43So, big contrast from north-western to south-eastern parts of the country this weekend.
02:49That continues.
02:50And that's the theme, really, as we go into the start of next week.
02:53We're going to see low pressure pull away, more changeable weather coming into the north-west,
02:58but towards the south-west, higher pressure builds once again, an extension of the Azores
03:03high.
03:04And through the upcoming week, we're expecting that to turn things drier and warmer, particularly
03:09in the south, but perhaps by the end of the week, further north as well.
03:13We'll keep it updated right here on YouTube, but for now, bye-bye.
03:17Bye-bye.
03:18Bye-bye.
03:19Bye-bye.
03:21Bye-bye.
03:23Bins, unstoppable.
