Western Scotland is likely to be spoilt with blue skies this weekend for much of
00:05
the rest of the UK. It's likely to be fairly glum and gloomy with a lot of
00:10
clouds and also staying on the chilly side. High pressure is the dominant
00:14
feature of our weather but it's sitting quite a way away up across Scandinavia
00:19
and it's generating as the winds go clockwise around high pressure an
00:23
easterly breeze. There's a little layer of low pressure as well that's making
00:27
for some wet weather on Friday and into Saturday. Now the ice bars open up a
00:32
little bit so the winds in the south on Saturday won't be as strong as on Friday
00:35
but still pretty glum conditions here. There'll be rain and drizzle for East
00:40
Anglia in the southeast and maybe even a little bit more snow to come over the
00:43
hills of Wales but mostly it'll be rain that we see at low levels on and off
00:48
nothing too heavy nothing too extensive but fairly glum for the majority. A few
00:53
wintry showers likely over North East Scotland but as I mentioned Western
00:56
Scotland with the winds coming in from the east they have the most shelter and
00:59
it's here where we should see some decent spells of sunshine. Maybe
01:02
brightening up at times across West Wales far southwest of England too but
01:06
for most places expect fairly cloudy conditions and as a result temperatures
01:11
will be suppressed a little lower than average. As I also mentioned the winds in
01:17
the south won't be as strong on Saturday compared to Friday so perhaps
01:21
not feeling quite as cold here but this brisk breeze just picking up a little
01:25
bit along these North Sea coasts will make it feel cold. These are the wind chill
01:30
temperatures that feels like just two or three Celsius so yeah it's going to feel
01:34
pretty fresh. That chunky area of high pressure isn't moving very far if
01:38
anything another high develops in its place across Norway so we keep the flow
01:43
the breeze coming in from the east not particularly strong but enough to feed
01:47
in quite a lot of cloud across eastern England and eastern Scotland still on
01:52
Sunday. Light rain and drizzle here and there but perhaps on Sunday a better
01:56
chance of a few more breaks in the cloud across the south maybe a few more
02:00
glimmers of sunshine and something a bit brighter perhaps for southwest
02:03
Scotland again now I suspect it'll be the Highlands and the Western Isles that
02:07
do best for sunshine through Sunday. Maybe brightening up a touch across
02:12
parts of Northern Ireland too. The wind direction is always keen with the breeze
02:16
coming in off the North Sea again these North Sea coast will struggle
02:20
temperature wise six or seven that's what it'll say on the thermometer but
02:23
it'll feel colder with that breeze. Further south well turning a little
02:27
milder with a bit of brightness we might get up to eight Celsius but for most
02:31
it'll feel pretty chilly this weekend and stay at fairly glum as well staying
02:35
on the chilly side well into next week as well. For more on that make sure you
