Hello there and welcome to your weekend forecast issued this Thursday the 8th of
00:04
August. I split the headline into two, the northern half of the UK and the
00:09
southern half. For the north, that's Scotland's Northern Ireland and also
00:13
Northern England, we will see an increasing threat of thundery rain as we
00:17
head through Saturday with the risk of flooding. We've already seen quite a lot
00:21
of flooding across Scotland through the last few days and this will exacerbate
00:25
the situation. The river levels are high, they're swollen, we've seen a lot of
00:29
surface water particularly on that rain track between Glasgow and Edinburgh and
00:33
this is not going to help. Feeling cooler particularly across the north of
00:36
Scotland where we will see that cloud persisting. Further south, the biggest
00:42
issue, the biggest impact will be strong winds on Saturday. We could see gusts up
00:47
to 50 miles an hour in places. Obviously gale force winds causing some choppy
00:51
seas and then come Sunday it's a case of sunshine and showers although currently
00:55
we're looking at more showery rain across northern England and North Wales.
00:59
So this is an unseasonably deep area of low pressure which is tracking across
01:03
the UK through Friday into Saturday. The rain warning remains in force through
01:08
Friday night before it eases and then on Saturday, thunderstorms in the north,
01:12
winds in the south. Gusts as I said could actually be damaging particularly across
01:17
coastal regions but even inland we could see gales. These thunderstorms here will
01:21
be slow-moving, you're in the centre of the low so if you catch some thundery
01:25
rain and it lasts a while again the risk of a flooding here. So first thing
01:30
on Saturday morning, you can see where the low is, the strongest winds always
01:34
across England and Wales, some damaging gusts along the coast, along the south
01:39
coast, the west coast as well, west Wales, northwest England but even inland.
01:43
And then it's this swathe of showery rain which will be slow-moving across
01:48
Scotland extending down towards Cumbria as well as Northumberland and towards
01:52
Northern Ireland as well. So the risk of some localised flooding here and a
01:58
blustery end to the day across the south. Some sunshine coming through here and
02:02
also some heavy showers. Temperatures then, well if you catch some sunshine 22-23
02:07
degrees Celsius although feeling fresh in that wind. A similar situation for
02:12
Northern Ireland later we could see some brighter weather just sort of poking its
02:15
head through the southwest of Scotland. Elsewhere though those showers will be
02:19
slow-moving and they will rumble on through Saturday into Sunday. So a
02:24
reminder of where our weather warnings are for the latter part of Saturday. This
02:28
area of low pressure here extends towards Scandinavia but as you can see
02:33
there's a trough extension down towards Ireland and what that means this is
02:37
where we're likely to see the unsettled weather remain through Sunday. Some
02:42
uncertainty at the moment with the distribution of this showery rain. It
02:46
could be further south. To be honest wherever you are you're never going to
02:50
be too far away from those showers. Always more clouds across the north of
02:54
Scotland. A stronger wind here feeling cool under that cloud and that showery
02:58
rain. You can see here stronger winds persist across England and Wales in
03:03
between sunshine and showers and then temperatures through Sunday. Typically
03:07
coming in I'd say the low 20s, the high teens. However much cooler across central
03:14
and northern areas of Scotland where it's going to feel autumnal. So all in
03:18
all the weekend is looking unsettled. Rain or showers, stronger spells of wind
03:24
as well. Keep it up to date with the forecast and also with the warning zones.
03:29
Make sure you take extra care if you are traveling or doing anything outside
03:33
through the weekend. Obviously we'll keep you up to date on all our social media
03:37
channels. Bye bye.
