A cool feel this weekend with northerly winds and overnight frosts. A few showers are likely, mostly in eastern area on Saturday and Monday, but large parts of the UK will be dry. There will be some sunshine too.

Welcome along to your bank holiday weekend forecast from the Met Office.
00:04
Only a couple of weeks since the last bank holiday, which was all about the
00:07
sunshine and the warmth. This weekend, well, will feel very different. It is
00:13
going to be chilly, especially so in the mornings. Gardeners take note the
00:17
likelihood of morning frost. It's not going to rain all weekend, though. Far
00:20
from it. Largely dry, in fact, in many areas, with at times some sunshine. There
00:26
will still be some showers, however. Why is it going to be on the chilly side?
00:30
Well, if we take a look at the big picture, you can see why. Low pressure
00:33
over Scandinavia, high pressure over Iceland, and between the two, the winds
00:37
coming down from the north. And those northerly winds bringing the Arctic air
00:41
during Friday night and into Saturday. A couple of weather fronts will also
00:45
bring bands of showers southwards, and that cold wind will be especially
00:50
noticeable on these North Sea coasts. And there'll be lots of showers coming in
00:54
here on Saturday. Could be heavy, could be thundery, too. Early on, could easily
00:58
see some sleet and snow in the showers over northeast Scotland to lower levels.
01:02
And through the day, there could be some snow over the hills in the showers down
01:06
across the Pennines, say. But as you can see, it's not going to rain everywhere.
01:10
Far from it. The showers will come and go in the east and many western areas,
01:13
looking dry and bright, with some sunshine coming through. There will be
01:17
that northerly breeze, though, and if you're out in that, it will feel cold.
01:21
Temperatures could struggle on some coasts, single figures at best. Inland, we
01:25
may just about clamber into the teens. Out of the breeze, get in the sunshine,
01:30
well, it'll feel OK. But it is going to be cold on Saturday night. If you're
01:33
heading out, high pressure is trying to move in there. So by the time we get to
01:37
Sunday, the winds are easing a little bit, and there's not as many showers
01:41
around. So for many, Sunday looks dry. Again, there is a weather front across
01:45
the far north, bringing a strong wind and some showers across northern
01:49
Scotland. This is how we start the day on Sunday. These are the temperatures in
01:53
towns and cities. Rural spots, well, we could be down to minus two, minus three
01:58
in some places on Sunday morning. So yes, gardeners take note, there will be a
02:02
frost in the countryside, and it will be a fine day for many, but it will be on
02:06
the chilly side. Some showery rain heading into northern Scotland from that
02:10
weather front. Maybe the odd shower elsewhere, but for many, it'll be dry.
02:13
Some cloud will bubble up through the day, but we should still see some bright
02:17
weather and some sunny spells. And a bit of sunshine will lift those temperatures
02:21
again after that cold start up into the low teens, perhaps in the south. Again, if
02:27
you're exposed to that wind, it will feel cold on some coasts. The high pressure is
02:32
still there by the time we get into Bank Holiday Monday, but another weather
02:35
front is drifting its way southwards. And again, those isobars are reasonably
02:40
close together across the far northeast, so a cold wind blowing here. Elsewhere,
02:44
the wind's reasonably light. Again, we could start with a touch of frost, and there'll be a
02:48
band of showers pushing their way southwards. Fairly cloudy again by the
02:53
afternoon, but we should still see some sunny spells in the morning and later on
02:58
in the day. And again, for most, it will be dry across the south, where
03:02
temperatures could just about climb into the teens. So a mixed picture this
03:06
weekend. It will certainly be a lot colder than last weekend. Make sure you
03:10
keep up to date with the very latest by following the Met Office on social
03:13
