Cold air spreading south this week will bring a chill for the weekend. Perhaps most importantly after a wet November it will be a lot drier although southwest England will have some rain on Saturday. All the details come from Alex Deakin.

00:00Hello, welcome to your Met Office weekend forecast, a weekend that takes us into December.

00:05And yes, sees a return of colder weather.

00:08But after a very, very wet November in places, perhaps the most important factor this weekend

00:13is that many places will be dry, dry and bright as well, a fair bit of sunshine around.

00:18But it is going to be on the chilly side with widespread frosts in the morning.

00:23Why so dry?

00:24High pressure is moving in, but it is also bringing colder air south during Friday.

00:30However, it's not completely dry everywhere.

00:33Notice this little area of low pressure just gradually swiveling down towards the southwest

00:38and the isobar squeezing together as well.

00:40That tells us it's going to be windy in the southwest and this weather front in particular

00:45will bring clouds and some pretty wet weather to parts of Devon and Cornwall, especially

00:50so in the far south of both those counties.

00:53Elsewhere, though, bar a few showers in Aberdeenshire, Caithness and the Northern Isles, it is generally

00:58a dry day.

00:59Fog could be a bit of a problem on Saturday if it sticks around all day as it could through

01:04parts of Welsh Marches and East Anglia, where temperatures will really struggle to get much

01:09above freezing.

01:10But for most places, it will be dry and bright with some sunshine and temperatures five,

01:14six, seven degrees, certainly feeling colder than it has done.

01:17Top temperature in the southwest, but that's where we do have that rain.

01:21So it won't feel like 10 degrees with that brisk wind to that rain is from this weather

01:26front, which continues to spiral and then sink southwards during Saturday night and

01:30into Sunday.

01:31High pressure moving back in across the country.

01:34Still quite a few isobars across the country, across the south.

01:36That means a bit more breeze, so perhaps not quite as much fog around on Sunday morning.

01:42Still a bit of mist and murk here and there.

01:44And again, it will be frosty across Scotland and Northern Ireland especially.

01:47We're going to see a few showers at times drifting in from the North Sea into parts

01:51of East Anglia, maybe the southeast.

01:53And again, across northern Scotland, we will see a few showers here and there.

01:57But for most places, it's dry and bright again on Sunday with plenty of sunshine and a brighter

02:02day for Devon and Cornwall as well with more sunshine.

02:05But it will feel cold again, a frosty start for many.

02:09And then those highs in the afternoon, five, six, seven, maybe eight degrees in one or

02:13two places.

02:14So, yes, it's not going to be warm this weekend.

02:17But thankfully, quite a bit drier than it has been.
