Hello, welcome to the weather for the week ahead from the Met Office.
00:03
It's looking largely dry for most of the country this week and certainly the first part of
00:09
the week.
00:10
Largely sunny skies as well.
00:11
It is going to turn cloudier and it's also going to turn colder as we go towards the
00:15
end of the week and the weekend.
00:17
High pressure is nearby, but actually we're between two highs and we're between two lows
00:22
at the moment.
00:23
And the low to the north is providing this weather front, which is making for some very
00:26
wet conditions across the northwest of Scotland.
00:29
The rain continuing here through Tuesday and Wednesday, and as a result, we could see
00:34
over 100 millimetres of rain in places and there is a yellow warning in force.
00:38
Some patchy rain across western Scotland, but most places will be dry.
00:42
A fair bit of cloud across the north, so the sunshine here rather hazy, whereas further
00:47
south plenty of blue sky and the wind's relatively light here, certainly compared to recent days,
00:52
and so it's going to feel pretty warm with temperatures easily into the mid-teens.
00:55
One or two spots could get up into the high teens.
00:58
It will be cooler, obviously, with the breeze and the rain across the far northwest.
01:03
That weather front continues to wriggle around across the far north into Wednesday.
01:07
High pressure across the continent continues to dominate further south, a little bulge
01:12
in the ice bars here.
01:13
So again, across the south, a cold start, possibly a touch of frost, but then plenty
01:18
of sunshine, whereas that weather front continues to bring rain across the Highlands and the
01:23
Western Isles, although it might start to clear from the Hebrides through the day.
01:28
That warning remains in place into Wednesday.
01:30
The cloud will thicken across Northern Ireland, maybe some patchy rain here.
01:33
Again, for the bulk of England and Wales, it's a dry and pretty mild day after that
01:38
cold start.
01:39
Now, the weather front is slipping south through Wednesday night and into Thursday, but it's
01:42
getting squeezed by high pressure systems.
01:45
So it's really fizzling out in terms of its rainfall.
01:48
It will bring more clouds and some drizzly conditions across southern Scotland, pushing
01:53
slowly into parts of northern England, maybe north Wales.
01:56
So much more cloud here on Thursday.
01:59
Maybe the odd shower in the far northwest, but again, further south and east, most places
02:03
dry.
02:04
But it is, you'll notice, turning colder with more cloud and as cold air comes in and the
02:09
winds start to pick up as well, particularly on the east coast.
02:12
High pressure is well and truly sitting across the country by the time we get to Friday.
02:16
The remnants of that weather front will again provide a fair bit of cloud across some central
02:21
parts and maybe the odd shower here and there.
02:24
But again, most places will be dry on Friday under that high pressure.
02:28
But with the high building in from the Atlantic, the winds coming in from the northwest and
02:32
coming down the North Sea in particular is going to feel quite chilly on these North
02:36
Sea coasts.
02:37
With a bit of brightness in the south, we could still get into the teens, but you'll
02:40
notice temperatures dropping off day by day come the end of this week.
02:45
The high pressure is still controlling things as we go into the weekend.
02:48
The isobars are squeezing together a little bit more.
02:51
So these northerly winds will get stronger, it looks like, through Friday and more especially
02:55
into the weekend.
02:56
So the weekend, yes, staying largely dry, but it is going to be feeling quite a lot
03:00
colder, especially as that wind starts to pick up.
03:04
