This weekend starts dry for most and a little chilly. Cloud and rain will spread into western areas during the day but much of the east will stay dry. Sunday sees a switch with much of the east seeing rain whilst brighter skies may follow.

Hello. Welcome to your weekend
00:02
forecast from the Met Office.
00:04
It's going to start fine and
00:05
bright for most places, although
00:06
a little bit chilly on Saturday
00:08
morning. However, there is
00:10
more rain to come, a
00:12
bit like last weekend.
00:13
The heaviest and most persistent
00:14
rain is likely on Saturday
00:17
night. And before we get to the
00:18
rain arriving over the weekend, we
00:20
have to get rid of an area
00:22
of low pressure that's been named
00:23
Storm Lorenzo by the Irish
00:25
Meteorological Service, bringing
00:26
some wet and windy weather early
00:28
on Friday, but really fizzling
00:29
out quite quickly during Friday.
00:31
And then there's a brief
00:33
window of drier weather before
00:35
the next set of weather fronts
00:36
come marching in.
00:37
These will be edging in fairly
00:39
slowly, actually, tied into an
00:41
area of low pressure that is a
00:42
long, long way away.
00:43
And these weather fronts will be
00:44
bringing cloud and patchy rain
00:46
into Northern Ireland first thing
00:47
on Saturday morning.
00:49
Elsewhere, generally, Saturday,
00:50
as I said, starts dry,
00:52
if a little bit chilly.
00:54
And many eastern areas will stay
00:55
dry through the day with some
00:57
hazy sunshine.
00:58
But you can see the cloud is
00:59
increasing as those weather fronts
01:01
creep in, bringing rain
01:02
and drizzle across parts of
01:03
Western England, Wales and the
01:05
rain. It's getting more persistent
01:06
across Western Scotland, quite a
01:08
soggy old day across Northern
01:10
Ireland and the winds also
01:11
picking up.
01:13
Temperature wise, well, with a bit
01:14
of brightness across the east, we
01:15
could get into the high teens
01:17
briefly, but mostly we're looking
01:19
at 13 to 15 degrees Celsius
01:21
and feeling cooler as the wet
01:23
weather pushes into the west.
01:25
Now, those weather fronts will
01:26
continue to edge in during
01:28
Saturday night and then
01:30
they kind of grind to a halt.
01:31
Notice some brighter colours in
01:32
there as well. It could be some
01:33
quite heavy bursts of rain through
01:35
Saturday night and Sunday morning,
01:37
especially over the hills and
01:38
mountains of Northern England
01:39
and Scotland.
01:40
Now, there is some uncertainty
01:42
about exactly how quickly
01:43
these weather fronts push in and
01:45
clear away.
01:46
So they may hang back a little bit
01:47
more, but generally
01:49
eastern areas starting soggy on
01:51
Sunday, the rain could linger for
01:52
much of the day across eastern
01:54
Scotland.
01:54
There'll be a few showers falling
01:56
on behind, particularly parts of
01:57
Northern England.
01:58
But actually for the west and
02:00
south, Sunday by and
02:02
large should see some brighter
02:04
skies coming in and we'll see some
02:05
sunshine developing.
02:07
The winds will be moving in
02:09
from the North Sea on some eastern
02:10
coasts and coming down from the
02:12
northwest across Wales and the
02:13
southwest.
02:14
It's going to make a fresh feel
02:16
despite some sunshine.
02:17
But again, we should just about
02:19
get into the mid to even
02:21
high teens across the southeast.
02:23
The temperatures through the
02:24
weekend, generally around about
02:25
average, but it will be a bit of
02:27
a chilly old start and there is
02:29
more rain to come.
02:29
Even behind me, you can see the
02:31
next weather system waiting to
02:32
move in as we go into Monday.
02:34
So stay up to date with
02:36
the forecast through this weekend.
02:37
As I said at the time of recording,
02:39
still a bit of uncertainty about
02:40
the details for Sunday.
