Hello. Welcome to your weather for the
00:01
week ahead from the Met Office.
00:03
Now, there are signs of some drier
00:05
weather towards the end of the week.
00:08
But as you can probably tell, we are
00:10
in for some lively weather before
00:11
that. Plenty of heavy showers around
00:13
over the next few days and the
00:14
potential for some
00:16
thunderstorms, especially on Tuesday
00:18
night and into Wednesday.
00:20
More on that in a moment, because, as
00:21
I said, overall, towards the end of
00:23
the week, there are some signs that
00:25
it might start to turn at least a
00:27
little bit drier and a little bit
00:28
sunnier. Now, for that, we need high
00:30
pressure to be in charge.
00:32
And this at the moment is how the
00:34
pressure maps are looking for
00:35
Saturday.
00:36
But let's rewind
00:39
and go through the rest of the week,
00:40
because for most of this week, low
00:42
pressure will be controlling things,
00:44
bringing those showers.
00:45
In particular, we need to keep our
00:47
eyes on this area of low pressure
00:48
pushing up towards the UK
00:51
at the moment.
00:52
Right now, we've got low pressure,
00:53
different low pressure to the north
00:54
of the UK and this weather front
00:56
dangling across the country, bringing
00:58
a fair bit of cloud around on Tuesday
01:00
morning across central areas.
01:01
But some places starting sunny.
01:03
But here comes the first batch of
01:05
showery rain across the south.
01:07
Some heavier bursts in that across
01:08
the Midlands, East Anglia and the
01:10
southeast.
01:11
Further north, well, actually fewer
01:12
showers on Tuesday across Scotland
01:14
and Northern Ireland and a bit more
01:16
in the way of sunshine, particularly
01:18
over Northern England.
01:19
Temperature wise, well, nothing
01:21
too spectacular.
01:22
We're probably seeing highs in the
01:24
high teens, maybe up to 20
01:26
or 21 in one or two spots.
01:28
But the wind's a bit lighter on
01:29
Tuesday, so perhaps feeling a bit
01:31
warmer than Monday.
01:32
However, it's later on Tuesday
01:35
that we're a bit worried about
01:37
things coming up from the south.
01:38
Some heavy thundery showers likely
01:40
to break out across the English
01:42
Channel and spread northwards across
01:44
parts of the Midlands and the
01:46
eastern side of England.
01:47
Now, there'll be hit and miss.
01:48
Not everywhere you're going to see
01:50
these downpours, but they could
01:52
cause some problems, particularly
01:53
after all the wet weather of last
01:55
week across these eastern areas.
01:57
Certainly where we catch these
01:59
thundery downpours, the roads
02:01
will be fairly treacherous, a lot of
02:03
spray and surface water around.
02:05
And there could be some flooding,
02:06
as I said, particularly because
02:08
of all the wet weather we had last
02:10
week. And the ground is very
02:11
soggy at the moment.
02:12
So the potential for some travel
02:14
disruption, this is on Tuesday
02:15
evening and into
02:17
Wednesday across those eastern
02:19
areas. It doesn't look much on the
02:21
pressure pattern, but it's this
02:22
sort of set of weather fronts just
02:23
moving northwards through
02:25
Tuesday night and into Wednesday
02:27
that could cause those problems.
02:28
As that low starts to pull away,
02:31
well, we could see some further
02:32
heavy thundery showers across
02:34
eastern areas later on on
02:35
Wednesday. So that warning is
02:37
enforced for Tuesday night and all
02:38
of Wednesday.
02:39
Further west, well, again, it's
02:41
back to that mixture of sunshine
02:43
and showers, but probably not too
02:45
many showers over southwest
02:46
England, south Wales.
02:48
Decent chance of some sunshine
02:49
here. And again, look at those
02:50
temperatures around or
02:52
still below average.
02:54
For this time of mid
02:55
June.
02:56
Looking ahead to Thursday, it
02:58
looks a bit drier across eastern
02:59
areas. Again, it's basically
03:01
sunshine and showers, but most of
03:02
the showers on Thursday will be
03:04
across Scotland and Northern
03:05
Ireland again.
03:06
They'll be more scattered across
03:07
England and Wales, so a better
03:08
chance of, again, seeing some
03:10
sunny spells.
03:11
And again, that means temperatures
03:12
could get into the high teens or
03:14
low 20s.
03:15
But where we see the frequent
03:16
heavy showers across Scotland,
03:18
Northern Ireland, temperatures
03:19
only 13 or 14 at best
03:21
for many.
03:22
Now, by the time we get to Friday,
03:24
we start to see the influence of
03:26
the high pressure trying
03:28
to build up from the south.
03:30
If this moves in, then that means
03:32
drier weather is likely through
03:34
Friday and into the weekend.
03:36
There is some uncertainty, it has
03:37
to be said. But at the moment,
03:39
we're not expecting as many
03:40
showers, certainly for England and
03:41
Wales. Large parts of the day will
03:43
be dry. But again, closer to low
03:44
pressure, there will still be
03:46
showers across Scotland and
03:47
Northern Ireland at this stage.
03:49
And again, well, for
03:51
21st of June, the longest
03:54
day, these temperatures are below
03:56
average, 14 to maybe 17,
03:58
18 Celsius.
03:59
Now, don't forget, because the sun
04:00
is strong at this time of year, a
04:02
bit of sunshine could lift those
04:03
temperatures a bit high.
04:04
It will feel warmer in the sunny
04:05
spells, but no really hot
04:07
spell of weather on the way.
04:08
In fact, the mornings later this
04:10
week look distinctly chilly under
04:11
this influence of high pressure,
04:13
which controls our weather.
04:14
It looks like into the weekend.
04:15
So it will, I think, be dominant
04:18
into Saturday.
04:18
But notice where the fronts aren't
04:20
too far away.
04:21
So although this high looks like
04:22
building in and bringing some fine
04:23
weather towards the end of the
04:24
week, it may not last all that long
04:26
at the moment.
04:27
And this is a few days away.
04:29
So make sure you stay up to date
04:30
with the latest.
04:31
The weekend looks like it could
04:32
start fine, a bit chilly in the
04:34
mornings, but mostly fine on
04:35
Saturday with some sunshine.
04:36
And then the showers may return
04:38
through Sunday and into the early
04:39
parts of next week.
04:41
That's a long way off, though.
04:41
Make sure you stay up to date with
04:43
the very latest.
04:44
