Hello, welcome to your weather for the week ahead from the Met Office. Storm
00:04
Kira has cleared away, yes, but it's still going to be a windy, a very windy
00:09
week. One thing we may notice is that temperatures could steadily rise. It's a
00:13
cold start to the working week. By the end of the week temperatures will be
00:17
higher which means we lose the risk of snow showers but there's still going to
00:21
be some wet weather around and a continued risk of flooding. There is an
00:25
awful lot going on this week and when that's the case you can pretty much
00:29
guarantee that low pressure will never be too far away. A couple of systems
00:33
close by to start the week. Another one whizzes across the country through the
00:36
middle of the week. Another one arrives for Friday and look at that there's
00:39
another one waiting in the wings for the weekend. So all the while pretty much
00:44
those ice bars are close together. It is going to be a windy week, feeling cold in
00:49
that wind on Tuesday morning. We do have warnings in for snow showers continuing
00:53
over Northern England, Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland, over relatively
00:57
modest hills even to low levels at times particularly across Scotland and
01:01
with the strength of the wind that means blizzards. So further travel disruption
01:06
is likely and warnings remain in force into Wednesday too. Further south not as
01:12
many showers. Where we do see them there'll be of rain, some sunshine across
01:15
parts of Eastern England in particular but it is going to feel cold.
01:20
Temperatures across Northern Britain 3 to 5, further south 5 to maybe 8 but it
01:24
feels colder when you add on the strength of the wind and look at the
01:28
ice bars still really pinched close together through Tuesday evening. This is
01:33
a little ridge of high pressure and really little. It is a very brief ridge
01:39
that topples in. It means the winds perhaps not quite as strong on Wednesday
01:43
and not as many showers around either but there will still be snow showers for
01:48
sure across Northern Scotland. A few rain showers elsewhere but probably the best
01:53
chance of some decent dry weather on Wednesday across a good chunk of Central
01:57
and Eastern Britain but notice down to the southwest while the winds were
02:01
picking up again here as more wet weather starts to arrive from this
02:05
weather system. Now this one kind of moves in on Wednesday night and lingers
02:09
for much of Thursday. It is going to bring rain and strong winds as it moves
02:15
its way in. Some uncertainty about the exact position of this low as it tracks
02:18
in but as I said it's basically going to be bringing a wet and windy spell with
02:23
snow on its leading edge over the hills of Northern England and Southern
02:26
Scotland. Northern Scotland gets a bit of a respite on Thursday perhaps a little
02:30
drier here but elsewhere look at that it's going to be wet and windy but it
02:35
will also be turning a little milder with temperatures in the south set to
02:39
get to double digits. It won't feel all that much milder though because of the
02:44
strength of the wind and the outbreaks of rain. That low clears away and then we
02:48
get another little baby ridge coming in but it again it doesn't last too long as
02:52
the next weather system starts to arrive on Friday. Again those isobars
02:55
squeezing together, the winds picking up initially across Scotland and Northern
02:59
Ireland so that weather front will be bringing rain and a bit of hill snow.
03:03
Elsewhere we may start dry on Friday morning but that band of rain swings in
03:07
across England and Wales during the day. As always when we're talking about the
03:12
end of the week bit of uncertainty about the timing of that weather front but
03:15
we're pretty confident that another wet and windy spell will swing through but
03:19
again look at those temperatures 12 or 13 Celsius quite a bit higher and we're
03:26
starting the working week. That weather front swings out of the way during
03:29
Friday afternoon and evening then a bit of a respite but still very windy a lot
03:34
of isobars and then we're keeping a close eye on this area of low pressure
03:38
that could turn pretty nasty. At the moment it looks like developing way out
03:42
in the Atlantic but if that tracks a bit closer to the UK that's tightly packed
03:46
Isobar suggesting another windy spell most likely on Sunday so that's an area
03:51
we're keeping a very close eye on strong winds certainly likely this weekend
03:54
further bouts of rain so again further warnings are possible. Make sure you stay
04:00
up to date with the very latest Met Office weather warnings there are some
04:04
in force until Wednesday. The best way to keep up to date is to follow us on
