00:25on the moon i'm a doer i'm a high achiever i believe that i can be the champion thoroughbred that this
00:32process requires i'm best of breed within my industry i've got plenty of charisma and yeah
00:39i'm not bad looking i'm one of a kind keen to kick start a company 16 potential business partners
00:47i've already proven myself in business i've turned over a million pounds from nothing

03:47you can go through to the boardroom now
04:01the boardroom
04:03the boardroom
04:12afternoon
04:16now one of the most frequently asked questions of me
04:20is is it possible in this day and age to start a business like you did back in 1967
04:27with a small amount of money and some humble background and the simple answer is yes absolutely
04:36yes you know i am personally sick and tired of this moaning culture that we have out there at the moment
04:44of people saying you can't do this and you can't do that because you can
04:49first of all you need an idea you need a product you need a concept you need a service and then of
04:58course you need to put in some very very hard work and you've got to have a lot of determination that is
05:04what is needed to start a business whether it's 1967 or whether it's 2011
05:11so this process this time around is not about getting a six-figure salary job with me in fact it's going to be about you
05:18actually providing your own salary because the winner of this process is going to go into business with me
05:25i'm going to inject 250 000 pounds of cash and value into a business your business right and
05:33you're going to run it
05:35and i say you're going to run it because don't expect me
05:39to be doing all the work because i'm not looking for a sleeping partner so to speak yeah i'm not
05:45saint alan the patron saint of bloody losers if things are going wrong i'm going to put you back
05:50on the rails and if things are going right you're not going to get a pat on the back you're going to
05:55be told to do it even better still you can look at it as a bit of a uncivil partnership so to speak
06:02i want you to treat this first task as if it's your own business you heard about the 250 000 pounds
06:18investment well i'm not going to throw that into the first task what i am going to throw in is 250 pounds
06:25you're going to be buying produce adding value to it selling it to the public and the team that
06:35brings me back the biggest return on my 250 pounds investment is going to win one thing that doesn't
06:42change on the losing team one of you will be fired the teams are going to be split boys versus girls
06:51my trusted advisors here nick and karen will be following you all of the time and reporting back
06:58to me i've worked with them for years i trust everything they tell me and here's something to
07:03note this is an investment i want some return on my money i'll see you back in this boardroom in a day or
07:14size time tomorrow starting from scratch they must create a business alex and turn a profit on lord
07:28sugar's 250 pound investment it's a pleasure to meet you guys finally you can feel the nerves
07:34but first a chance to size up the competition it was going through your brain when everybody was in
07:40the waiting room quietly confident baby i was thinking i'll have you all yeah i run a global
07:46consultancy business i own my own business selling glasses online i've already got my own business
07:52in construction recruitment i have a business as well organic skincare i think people underestimate me at
07:57first i'm short sweet and smiley but when i do business i mean business i'm not working for anyone else
08:04what do i do i'm a sales manager come sales director for uh it's the shoes isn't it it's all about a
08:10software house i invented the world's first curved nail farm which means it gets a nice smooth edge
08:18i'm an inventor i find gaps in the market i bring products to those gaps it went from something i made
08:25in the kitchen to the shelves of major retailers in the uk and america i'm into hr human resources
08:33the people management side of things anything to do with people that's definitely my bag i love
08:38challenging myself and i stretching myself to the ultimate and i seek out pain rather than pleasure
08:45weak people in business are a waste of space and a limp handshake is unforgivable
08:49i'm a humble accountant really can't really say much more we all need you some point of the way
08:55don't we oh yeah you could start your own accountancy practice couldn't you in in in effect yeah i'd rather not
09:07richmond upon thames
09:11oh my goodness me for the next 12 weeks office and home
09:19i'm loving the decor it's fantastic wow it's a bit like my ass
09:25this is really nice wow
09:28so i'm slowly in the girls room i feel like i should
09:33the last time i come in i promise but there's work to do
09:40first the newly formed teams need names i had two suggestions galvanized obvious reasons and um
09:48platinum
09:51mine was quite simple uh venture team venture yeah daring bold taking risks i'm swayed more towards
10:00team venture venture venture i think venture yeah okay okay girls welcome to team venture
10:06i like the name of ability ability ability is positive name
10:15team ability doesn't it work i don't like ability you don't like it i can't explain why not
10:20it's very uh selfish and conceited but i like lee entrepreneur
10:25no it takes my name gives the entrepreneur spirit come on let's let's get to the boys sorry
10:31logic you know a logical approach to things i like that logic i think it's clean table yeah i'm i'm not
10:38in love with it but i uh i see the logic behind it yeah let's just do the vote stop over complicating
10:43it and get on with it who likes ability
10:45all for logic say aye aye thank you brilliant let's move on next elect a leader
10:56project management is definitely what i do business consultant melody i'm more than happy to take on
11:02the task versus executive assistant helen i'd be exactly the same round two the business that i run we
11:08actually manage projects for global organizations across 110 countries i'm experienced with managing
11:14large teams i'm experienced with organizing people we're going to do well i know that for certain
11:19because we've got talents amongst us to win it yeah i think melody then yeah yeah are you happy to
11:26that let's go i can be pushed manager done so i'm your teammates and we'll pass that around we are
11:34right by you as a leader it's vital to inspire people i was once trained by al gore and then i was
11:42personally taught by desmond tutu and dalai lama and i work with an understanding that actually there is
11:48a purpose greater than myself okay so the plan is definitely going to win it yeah i want to do it
11:54you'll do it for the boys a lone volunteer accountant edward what are you going to bring to the table yeah
12:01just some rationale just common sense just some leadership we're going to roll with the punches
12:06has anyone else got a pitch as well no no basically i'd rather know exactly what type of experience
12:10he's got i don't i don't want to just say yes and then and then come back and say well actually
12:14no you're right we should we should have questioned him from day one you know do you want to be the
12:18leader i'm not saying i want i want to do it but basically i i run my own business you know if you
12:23if you want to lead it you lead it because i can't have a new lead in it but then ducking out when
12:28literally you know obviously i'm here to win you know i'm not gonna i'm here to win every single
12:34task who's up for gavin put your hand up if you want gavin to lead so we've got two so it's edward
12:42i'm a wheeler dealer who accidentally became a finance professional and i want out because i'm so
12:47much more than an accountant i've given up a very strong position in a very good company to be partners
12:54with lord sugar because that is what i'm after that is what i want my heart is going now i've
12:58realized the teams must invest lord sugar's 250 pounds in fresh fruit and veg i think that out of
13:11this money we should use as little as possible okay then turn it into products what about like
13:18segments of fruit covered in toffee or chocolate or something in time to sell on to london's hungry
13:24workers i think firstly we definitely need to have a breakfast product and a lunch product because
13:29trust me if you can say can i offer you this for breakfast this for lunch they will buy from you
13:34so you've got fruit salad yeah which can be a breakfast thing yeah yeah the vegetable pasta let's
13:39think about that for lunch okay i want to go on things that we are just going to be able to make
13:45efficiently quickly well and my input is soup and the reason i'll tell you why because you can't get
13:52it wrong they might not buy it again but they're not going to be sick sorry lads i've got a point i've
14:00got a point to make as pm i want to go with soup and some kind of juice and does anyone actually know how
14:05to make soup not really no 3 20 a.m people were saying well you need to work out margins and that
14:22you know look i ain't got time for it i don't need to show off i can work out margins i'm an accountant
14:27spend our 250 quid on produce mash it up as quick as possible and sell it all that's my vision for this
14:34task
14:40new covent garden market
14:44packed with fresh produce at wholesale prices we want grapes we want pineapple
14:49we're after large oranges anyone got oranges is that is that an orange
14:55i don't know can we get a seller up here please
14:57we want to spend as little as possible so edna you need to be looking at costings
15:04i'm going to literally give you the money if we want to catch breakfast
15:07we need to go we need we need to get moving guys keep moving come on for ed's boys tomato soup
15:16you know what i ate tomatoes and orange juice prices the lowest lowest i could do is 950.
15:23950 a box too much 17 boxes 150 quid no it's not a question of how much 150 quid 950 a box
15:32why don't we be halfway 925 what's that 25p it's come on it's quite obvious you're not in the
15:38business you don't really know so i'm trying to be helpful to you 950 is the bottom line 16 boxes 950
15:45you're on yeah that's what i said that's done do your ticket now unable to squeeze the price the boys
15:52take a big slice out of their budget buying 1400 oranges we're gonna buy as cheap as we can we're
16:00going to produce as much as we can as quick as we can sales i'm not concerned with right now for me
16:07this is just rolling with the punches and i'd like my team to do the same having made a heavy
16:13investment in juice we need to know how much we have to spend the account is depleted 40 pounds
16:19everything we need for the soup everything everything that includes all your ingredients
16:24can i ask what you're spending on oranges then in terms of the sentence of the budget 150 and
16:28we're going to spend everything god no i'm just asking the question obviously we're maxing on oranges
16:34yes you worked it out although soup is harder to make guys you've had half an hour yeah i don't want
16:41to hear negative no it's not negative it's just a fact it's not negative yeah fine it's a fact yeah
16:45here's a fact you've got 10 minutes to get this sorted so come on move if i was pm i would have had
16:53a structure in place despite today everyone would have known exactly what they were doing everyone
16:57would have been completely informed about how much money they had i would have done things a lot
17:01differently come on i want something to say yeah we can make the soup left with little choice salesman jim
17:07heads up the hunt for bargains if we were going to make tomato soup what type of tomato would you
17:13recommend that we use right very ripe tomatoes so if i came up to you and i'd never met you and said
17:18i'd like to buy some overripe tomatoes in boxes and i want to pay three pounds a box is there
17:24something to work with there if i if i have them you're very welcome do you have them no
17:28so we've got berries here we've got berries here yeah we've got berries there menu for melody's girls
17:36a breakfast fruit salad we're going to be needing some pineapples and we also want your grapes
17:45for lunch it'll be vegetable pasta 50 peppers 50 courgettes big happy smiles asking for the prices you
17:53can't spend anything until you come to me for the money yeah what's the best deal you can give us
18:00we're running on a really low budget 420 420 for how much for the box 26 could you do could you do
18:08eight pounds for two boxes that would be amazing and you want to see you make our day okay great
18:13hold on a minute hold on a minute hold on a minute listen this is going to get away because she's making
18:17decisions without kind of checking that out with me that's cheaper yeah i know it's cheaper but we
18:21haven't actually decided because we need to go on we've done a little hurry up the deal because
18:25yeah yeah okay let's get it let's get it and go thank you very much so we'll take that for eight
18:29pounds two boxes you must be the boss not quite i've been given a very important task though
18:36at the end of the day i'm accountable for the purse strings but other people are making the deals and
18:40other people are negotiating with the storeholders so how am i possibly supposed to keep account
18:47in control of the finances thank you so much bye we've got 84 pounds left we'll all meet in the
18:53kitchen start getting the fruit together to get them out onwards and upwards 6 15 a.m still no cheap
19:04tomatoes with the lock please for 30 pounds 30 pounds yeah we'll take it all we'll buy it all we'll pay
19:10your cash now yeah we'll take a lot of this off your head if i'm going to serve that i'm doing
19:14your fight literally i'll tell you what else i'm going to do for you i'm going to give you 10 more
19:18pounds but what i need for that 10 more pounds is a box of red peppers box of red peppers six onions
19:24but i think you're happy enough for that there's 40 quid yeah go on then very good man we are going to
19:29make soup like we have never made soup before and we're going to be industrious don't know why because
19:34we've never made soup before and that's it right now it's this orange juice remember it's the
19:39production line it's not just it's cut squeeze sieve and into the bottle i think you've got to
19:46think ahead you've got to think ahead right i know but we can ladle it in whatever no no it's best
19:49to think through these things now listen i don't know what equipment we've got glenn so let's
19:53speculate and just try and figure it out well think of eventualities glenn don't all right sorry
19:59dawn london's workers pour in
20:12for melody's girls the rush is on to catch the city's breakfast tray be cutting like you've never
20:18cut in your life before
20:25guys for two quid then that's so that's five pieces of each
20:31well this is the thing we are aiming for 500 i'm not sure whether we have enough stock for as many as
20:39we had planned i'm not sure less less time coming out now like start putting less stuff because i'm
20:44worried now but space it out take a couple out of each they were given 250 pounds as an investment
20:52invest that money wisely to get the greatest return they've spent just a little over half
21:00with actually quite a mean product and i think their lack of adventure would cost them dear
21:07you have 91 pounds left over we had 250 pounds we still buy stuff right now
21:11it doesn't matter how much we've got left it matters about how much we're selling it for
21:15yeah we need to get the labels on so we can get out of the kitchen do you think we need to buy
21:20more stock we budgeted for 500 parts at the moment we're looking at making about 300.
21:26costing lies with edna and edna's saying we shouldn't buy more stock okay there's no point
21:31talking about it let's just get moving right melody you're taking me 170 parts yeah okay 170 parts yeah
21:398 20 am right guys i want to be out here in one and a half hours we're going to just roll with
21:48the punches yeah we're just going to go at it go like the clappers yeah in charge of soup production
21:54jim alex you're happy enough with cutting the peppers cutting the onions you guys are on tomatoes
22:00they can't stick they can't burn burnt soup ain't good okay okay mate what is it appointed head juicer
22:09that's easy mate fast food marketing entrepreneur leon
22:19uh i'm sort of just like kicking back at the moment squashing oranges to make the orange juice
22:23uh it's not massive responsibility but there's not really a great deal else i can get involved with
22:28it's all down to the sales and that's when that's when my moment will come what's the rate on that
22:33you're getting through them yeah it's not making a lot you're holding them too long that's far too
22:38long all right yeah get on with it all right just i want to buzz them five seconds no more than five seconds
22:47one two three four five is that enough no no left half well push it harder
22:53just squeeze the balls out of it
23:02okay no no no yeah don't okay yeah yeah don't don't don't burn the mic
23:06this one's fine i think that's how you do this one but this one i can't get to work

23:37they miss the breakfast trade they'll miss the lunch trade and the dinner trade god my arms are

32:59the orange juice just sold just sold yeah it did that is a viable business
33:04somebody said do you really think people are going to pay two pounds fifty for fruit salad
33:08yeah yes i do yeah yes i do and they did
33:12and they did over and over and over and over again
33:24you can go through to the boardroom now
33:37you can go through to the boardroom now
33:50good evening good evening lord
33:57i gave you 250 pounds for each team
34:00and i wanted you to come back and show me a return on my investment so gentlemen team leader here was
34:09edward is that right yes lord sugar right and you put yourself forward i did anybody else
34:15i did say that i would be willing to do it but basically he was very passionate about about doing
34:20it and so you were straight in there edward was you that's my character right but how did turn
34:24out to team leader then gents he did lead well um but i just sometimes question with the random
34:31decisions without any backing i like to be quite organized quite know exactly how many ingredients
34:36for example we're going to buy before we get there um and so that's that's quite different to ed
34:40whose comment was i'll work it out whilst we're in the cab on the way there
34:45right what was your products you chose to make soups and juices
34:50soups and juices we went for those on the basis that they're just simple you just get them and
34:55you blend them and then you sell them and you've got a good margin how much did you spend on you
35:00spent all the money spent all the money first of all i was after a number of oranges between a
35:04thousand and fifteen hundred and then it worked out about 40 quid left on tomatoes you were lucky jim
35:10did a very good deal in the market and got all the ingredients that you needed for the soup
35:14the 40 pounds we were um focused on what we had to do and we did it well i hand-picked jim because
35:20i knew he was the man to lead the soup team hand-picked him i hand-picked him well you knew he was a
35:25soup man absolutely proved me right there's an accolade for you you're a a soup man so when did you start
35:32to think about uh how much you're going to sell stuff for then lord trigger my business plan my
35:38strategy different very different bottom up not top down because i didn't know how many i was going
35:45to sell i didn't want to speculate i didn't know what i was going to sell it for didn't want to
35:48speculate but you must have had some idea when i was producing that was production and selling was
35:55going to take care of itself cut the crap here listen i want to ask you a simple bloody question
36:00have you worked out how much you're going to sell them for simple as that i want a yes or no answer
36:06not no i'm thinking about it as we as we're squeezing i'll be thinking about what price we're going to
36:11sell it for the sales price is something that we can change just like that this is completely wrong
36:16what we did is we worked out let me explain to you because i know how it works ed was not doing it
36:20right we worked out it's not doing we we worked out that we needed to sell a minimum of 250 juices
36:28to get your your investment back well well ed you were trained at one of the leading accountancy
36:33firms in the country i believe is that don't fit the mold beg your pardon don't fit the mold
36:39i didn't ask you that question i said you were trained by one of the leading accountancy companies
36:43in this country is that right indeed so you would have had insight and vision into how
36:48companies are run because you audited them a couple of times yeah it's all there a big
36:53pardon it's all there all my experiences can you stop talking to me in semaphore here uh we're not
36:58sending each other text messages here just answer me properly yeah i don't understand what you mean by
37:03it's all there yeah so all my experience that i've had is all with me i've been told that your team name
37:10is logic right yeah not very appropriate good luck with that name now ladies who was the team leader i was
37:19lord sugar melody yeah yes i've always been the one who takes bold risks and uh this was a bold one
37:25and i took it right what's the team name venture it was my idea yours also so you're the team leader
37:33come up with the team name also it was voted the most popular well i've heard the melody now let's hear
37:39from the chorus um good team leader yeah i thought she was a really good team leader definitely do have a
37:46style of leadership which takes into account other people's opinions i think that's what made people
37:51think that i was a good leader what was your product we definitely wanted the fruit pots and then we
37:56went for healthy pasta you'd have a game plan of how much you're going to sell how much things should
38:02cost we worked out the finances along with the quantities edna who's in charge of the finances that
38:07what you do finance no she volunteered for that role didn't you and and um well i was volunteered but
38:14i didn't shirk away from it you spent 170 quid approximately yeah okay i gave you 250 yeah we
38:21thought that if we kept costs down we could increase the profit that we're making i did say i've given
38:27you 250 quid and i want you to go and spend it and bring me back loads of money if i wanted you to go
38:33and spend 170 i would have given you 170 i mean the whole point was i made an investment of 250
38:39okay look let's get down to the figures shall we
38:51i'm going to start off with the gentleman how much money was taken on the juices current uh they took 339
39:00pounds and 20 pence the soup uh the soup 92 pounds and 93 minutes so that's 432 pounds 13
39:13and nick um start with the vegetable pasta uh for the young ladies yes well that brought in 37 pounds 28
39:27all right
39:28and the fruit salad for the ladies that's a flying 555 pounds and five pence right well ladies there you
39:43are 592 pounds plays 432 so clearly you're home as the winners and on 150 pounds worth of purchasing
39:54that's three times margin it's a shame you didn't do three times margin on 250 quid
40:01very well done ladies you're going to go back to the house i've laid on a champagne reception for you
40:06have a very very nice time and i'll see you on the next task okay okay
40:12you lot you're going to be coming back in this boardroom tomorrow and i've already expressed here
40:24that this is all about me trying to find someone who's going to be in a 50 50 partnership with me
40:30i like to deal in simple straightforward facts okay
40:46i decided to be project manager and we've won and i'm really really proud of every single person
41:00here because you worked damn hard honestly melody i just want to say thank you for leading the task
41:07and being a great project manager i feel that melody's ability as a project manager has been a little
41:14bit exaggerated by the other team members i honestly didn't think she was that brilliant congratulations
41:21to team venture
41:35he blew us out the water would you agree yeah
41:41i think the problem lies really in the fact that we didn't produce enough orange juice yeah i don't
41:48know why that is if it was because the juices didn't work
41:55people didn't pay attention to the details and it just ended up getting a bit chaotic it was all a bit
42:01of a punt i know i worked hard at it done about everyone else they'll have to fight their own corner
42:08i will make an excellent business partner with lord sugar and i believe by just taking on task number one
42:14p.m i think i've shown that i'm not here to mess about
42:28you can go through to the boardroom now
42:45you can go through to the boardroom now
42:58you can go through to the boardroom now
43:07afternoon gentlemen
43:12edward i remind you of your application form one of the things that you wrote
43:17if my team loses i will blame the project manager your words i also then went on to say something else
43:24well what was it you said then i said if i am the project manager the gloves are coming off
43:28all right well your starting point is you've got 250 pounds okay if i've understood correctly
43:35you decided your strategy as team leader was what we'll do lads is we'll go and buy as much stuff as
43:42we can for as cheap as possible and don't worry about the plan at the moment we'll think about the plan as we go along
43:48i felt if i had the best plan in the world but i couldn't lead the team it was worthless so therefore
43:54my plan was simple that's i wanted to go for a simple plan because i didn't want to micromanage
44:00so i worked out that at 10p and orange i'd be able to make 500 bottles all right that's all going on in
44:07your head that's going on anybody else know about this there was a rough plan a general plan but it
44:12there was never any details or figures it just sort of grew as it went along and sounds to me as
44:17though ed kept it all into himself because i didn't actually see one piece of paper with anything
44:21written down to be honest it was a little bit disappointing as a team we knew nothing about it
44:26you know we couldn't contribute to it we couldn't give our feedback did you know anything about any
44:30plan no no no i knew he kept a lot of things to himself there was a need to know basis man with a
44:37plan or not no it was leave it with me i know what we're doing with the oranges what i need you
44:42to do because i think you're soup man is to look after the soup team i'm going to give you very
44:47little money i need you to buy a lot i need to convert soup and go out and make sure you can
44:51shift it i was very capable of doing that but that's the extent of the information i was given
44:55lord sugar i believe said that the lack of planning during the process cost us very badly i think
45:00actually the irony is edward he's trying incredibly hard to show that he's not an accountant he's not the
45:06accounting model and unfortunately i think he left a lot of the good parts of the accountancy at the door
45:11when he came here that's very that's the most sensible thing i've heard here today actually
45:15lord sugar i believe all i'm guilty of on this task was being too ambitious i thought i was going to be
45:22bringing you a thousand pounds and i think you can see that i would have done had productions would have
45:27could have should have yeah yeah i know yeah i know if you had a plan and you had it in your head
45:32it'd be good it'd be good and share it with everyone i'm very happy to accept i made an error in that
45:39i underestimated the manpower needed to squeeze oranges could you have sold more orange definitely
45:45a lot more absolutely yeah without doubt so the floor was that you didn't make enough it was our
45:50lead product that was what we wanted to sell more of if there had been more product there i'm confident
45:54we would have shifted it i'll save you any pain uh trying to work this out i've got some numbers for
45:59you if you bought 1400 oranges approximately you could have made 470 bottles okay you actually made 156 so that
46:07tells me something went wrong in the manufacturing process yes we had three juices and all three
46:13electric juices broke down leon you were the person working the electric machines which broke maybe the
46:19engines had burnt out momentarily like for a couple of hours but it was the couple of hours that we
46:23couldn't afford to wait for them to cool down they were all out of order that it was a case of
46:28mishandling the equipment leon your business is all about menus for restaurants isn't that's right
46:34yeah type of stuff so you've got an idea and understanding of distribution of food and things
46:40like that well yeah that's right i understand the distribution so what was you doing all day
46:44long um pressing the juices getting them bottled up labeled uh i mean i might not necessarily
46:50been in the limelight squashing the juices but i was certainly there squashing the juices
46:56alex could you tell me what you did yeah absolutely i ran the fixed unit at liverpool street
47:01station you mean you was in the lorry i was in the lorry so i was stocking it making sure it looked
47:05good serving the soup up putting it in cups i will tell you right now i didn't sell as many as the
47:08other guys we sold nine units basically yeah oh that's fine and i helped close other time compared
47:14to other people that absolutely but people want to see the units looking clean tidy and that doesn't
47:18just appear by magic you have to do that and make it happen well i can confirm i saw you cleaning and
47:23cutting bread yes because the bread had to be sold in portions to go yeah it's important to keep the van
47:28clean yeah it's important to cut the bread but everybody else sold you didn't sell back office
47:34then was you if you want to look at it as back office but had there been no back office there'd
47:37have been no front line sales good place to hide not really absolutely not
47:45well look uh edward you are going to have to bring back two people into this boardroom
47:49that you think are responsible for the failure of this task
47:58the two people lord sugar that i'm going to be bringing back in are gavin
48:05and leon right the ones that have been let off so to speak here go back to the house
48:15sorry lord trigger
48:23you three go and step outside and i'll call you back in in a few minutes
48:35edwardy reminds me of a very slow internet line
48:38you have to sit and wait and you see him ticking over
48:45but on paper look where he's been trained by the one of the biggest firm of accountants in the
48:50world well he certainly hasn't accounted for himself very well has he
48:54gavin has been selected because gavin challenged him right at the beginning to be
48:59the project manager and leon made a mistake with the juices
49:03but the bottom line is alan you've got to own a business with one of these candidates 50 50.
49:08yeah why don't you send the three of men please lord sugar will see you now
49:24you
49:33edward i want to know why you brought gavin into this boardroom
49:37blood sugar i brought gavin in because first of all it's kind of been said that he put himself
49:43forward as pm i don't feel he ever really put himself forward he just didn't he no i don't think
49:48he did he very straightforward basically i said i was willing to to be put project manager very
49:53spinelessly hang on you just asked me a question can i answer the question it's okay basically i'm
49:59a business manager i've got my own business i buy stock and i sell it and i basically said looking at
50:03my experience i'll be willing to do project manager and we took a vote on it the reason he wasn't voted
50:09was because he did it so sheepishly no one could be inspired as soon as i took the calculated risk of
50:16putting myself forward no one else needed to maybe because they're gutless and spineless and normally
50:22and i've got a lot of okay but he put himself forward he didn't really put himself forward if
50:27he put himself forward did he put himself forward or not uh these were the two boys that did he put
50:32himself forward or not i think his hand went up yeah i think edward had made it he was pretty
50:37cocksure that he was going for it you know he hadn't actually asked what anyone did in the business world
50:42before he put his hand up for project management i felt yeah is it personal then it's not personal
50:48you took an immediate dislike to gavin i felt that gavin was not a doer you say he's not a doer but he
50:55sold the second highest number of units i did not have that feedback from jim you should have he just
51:00literally wanted to be the project manager and he just couldn't do the job he couldn't do the job at
51:05all he's just told everyone just to go away when whenever you gave him feedback just go away and get on
51:09of it you know it's just not gonna sit here and be made to feel that big well that's how big you
51:14are because you were absolutely stupid on this on this task you know what i had the guts to just take
51:20a team well done you had the guts i'll give you that you you put yourself forward and well done you
51:25didn't do anything else you wanted to wear the hat but you didn't fulfill the role not only am i the
51:31youngest in the team well done i'm the shortest i had the guts to to get i had a motley crew of young
51:40men and i got them into a team you did not get loads of negatives out of them my job was to get
51:46a team together and to get you profit which i did i'm getting some negatives now i've got you profit but
51:52you lost the task what's leon doing here anyway leon's here because i felt that we lost time in
52:01the kitchen it's as simple as that i haven't got exact numbers but you know in terms of sales i'd say
52:06he was at the weaker end of our team to me at that point it wasn't really about individual sales um i
52:11know that i can sell you know i can sell i've got my own business where i've had to sell i've had to do
52:17everything like that inspire me leon because i'm looking for a business partner here lord show you
52:22let's go inspire me here we go because at the moment you've sat here for nearly a day and a
52:27half you haven't opened your blooming mouth agreed agreed and now it's time okay um going back to sort
52:33of me as a person i'm pretty passionate about everything i do can spot something you realize
52:37that you can make money off it instantly i've pretty much done that with the companies that i've owned
52:42and uh and proven quite a success in in them so if i had to ask you a point blank question
52:47who is responsible for the failure of this task who would you say it is i would instantly say edward
52:51he doesn't have the entrepreneurial flair the enthusiasm he's an accountant a lot of people that
52:57end up as big bosses of companies are started out accountants i didn't i didn't know that i ain't got
53:02no problem against account nor have i i just i only problem i got here on this task is is that that
53:08accountancy skill wasn't used gavin i don't know what you're doing here you sold well so quite
53:21frankly i think you've done enough as far as i'm concerned to say that you're going to remain in
53:26this process thank you leon i'm going to be perfectly blunt with you i'm not very enthusiastic
53:38about you to be honest i haven't seen anything sparkling you've got a business of your own there
53:43is a you know a production issue here which is the main catalyst of what went wrong we definitely
53:50didn't produce enough stuff and the team leaders placing the blame with you on that
53:56edward kind of admire your enthusiasm to take on the team leader role but clearly had no expertise here
54:07you just felt you're going to do it all in your head and edward
54:13one thing you need to learn in life is not to be ashamed of what you're best at doing
54:22i've got no shame in being an accountant but i already was one and that's why i think it's more
54:26important that i show i can lead but you can't but you didn't i did lead i did lead the reason
54:33you know what i've done all my life i've walked into factories throughout the world and because i'm
54:38an expert in electronics i look at something and i bang see things that other people can't see
54:44and here basic simple mathematics is what you do all day long for a day job and yet what you've done
54:52is you said you're saying i don't want to use my accountancy skills i want to show i could do
54:58something else that's nonsense man that's nonsense
55:01you said on your resume that i'm lord sugar's dream you know with the greatest respect you've been
55:14a bit of a nightmare and so for that reason edward i've got to say to you you're fired
55:22just learn from this edward there's no shame in you being an accountant don't don't ever run
55:34yourself down as far as that's concerned gentlemen go back to the house
55:52at the end of the day lord sugar he didn't see what he wanted in me
56:20and i can accept that i'm only 25 the world is my oyster um roll the punches
56:31so who do we think is going to be coming back ed did put a bit of blame towards
56:37leon about the juicing machine so do you think leon's not coming back i've got a feeling that might
56:41with the case i i think i hope not
56:53ed was trying to get across like he was saying i'm more than just an accountant you know and he was so
56:59passionate about it and he was so involved you know he got very upset and you know it wasn't nice
57:04but obviously obviously when you're in that situation you know you've got to stand up for
57:09yourself if you don't learn how to pipe up you're going to go home we should raise a toaster head though
57:15i mean he's what he's the first one to raise to raise 15 candidates remain
57:27lord sugar's search for his business partner has begun
57:34next time your next task is all about technology you're going global on this one
57:39the teams get creative right tally-ho in a 21st century task
57:4750 downloads already
57:51the battle for customers goes online there's just a basic issue of taste here
57:55susie i'm going to stop it now because susie night you've lost you shouldn't have lost this task
58:00you're fired
