00:00This is not a game. This is a 12-week job interview. It's a dog-eat-dog situation.
00:1314 people have come to London in search of a job.
00:18There is no phone-in here. There is no text number. There is no panel of judges.
00:24I'm the one that decides who gets fired, and I'm going to be the one, ultimately, who decides who gets hired.
00:32They've come to battle it out for a job with Sir Alan Sugar.
00:37I am the most belligerent person that you could ever come across.
00:41Tough and straight-talking, Sir Alan's built a business empire worth £800 million.
00:48Business is not about coming, piss my money up the wall.
00:51He's offering one job with a six-figure salary.
00:55Let's go, go, go, go.
00:56To get it, they're going to have to live and work together.
01:00Don't fucking dick me around. I'm getting pissed off with it.
01:03Quite frankly, I'd like to get rid of the bleeding free of you.
01:06This is the ultimate job interview.
01:09You're fired. You're fired. You're fired. You're lightweight. You're fired.
01:12You're fired.
01:20Warning.
01:21Last week...
01:22You are going to be selling second-hand cars to real customers.
01:26I've had a lot of people in my life say to me you should be a car salesman.
01:30The teams were taken to a giant car supermarket.
01:34Ansul's team started well.
01:36let's go into the deal then fantastic right but ended in disarray what have you been doing for
01:43four hours this house and cars bullshit on the other side why don't you just go ahead and do
01:48that and we will say that you just go and sell please project manager sharon struggled with her
01:54team he's wanting to stand at the end of how can you know what he's doing he's never done this
01:57before the boys aren't listening to me because they don't they know i don't know anything about
02:01cars where's our project manager anyway she's crying i really do think that we've lost
02:10in the boardroom sharon came under fire in terms of sharon saying that she we wasn't backing her
02:16i would probably question what there was to back the result stunned everyone sharon won
02:26but victory soon turned sour tell me one thing that i said about sharon and i will back off like
02:31i've said are you talking absolute you're not even listening to me paul i think as a team i think
02:36we're pretty much um finished in the boardroom ansel brought joe and sam back to face the music
02:44samuel do you think if you weren't there it would have made any difference
02:48there is a message coming from above joe you've been here too many times you are fine
02:54i was sort of expecting this because i accept the fact that i've been here four times
03:01joe joe there comes a time when everybody everybody is saying enough's enough joe
03:09you're fired can i just have to one more time just give me the one more last chance
03:12i'm afraid not no i'm afraid not that's it back to the house now
03:15joe became the sixth casualty of the boardroom now eight remain to fight for the chance to become
03:25the apprentice
03:33at the house the candidates try to guess who's been fired
03:36from what i saw which was not a lot but joe don't seem to have done anything wrong
03:40but good feeling says samuel's gone i think samuel and i don't want it to be ready but then i do
03:45i think it's going to be samuel
03:51okay that's brilliant thanks bye
04:16we're going to school chigwell school and we're leaving in 20 minutes
04:2020 minutes yeah the cars are on their way
04:24we're going to be taught a lesson if it's a high school they will totally in our earlier
04:29rip us to shreds
04:34chigwell offers the type of schooling sir alan never had he's here to tell the students hard
04:50work and qualifications are what matter let's have a reality check here because here's what happens
04:56in the real world the first thing they're going to look at is what they got what she got what he got
05:01that's it no qualifications in the bin simple as that
05:07and it's hard work that he's got in store for the candidates
05:11good afternoon good afternoon now you might be wondering what you're doing here i've just finished
05:20giving a pep talk to a whole group of six formers and interestingly enough the large section of that
05:26audience are going to be your target consumer for the next task now two of you from my recollection
05:33have not been team managers michelle and dunn so you three out of those two who would you like to lead
05:41your team would like michelle please sir alan michelle step over there
05:50the good friend of mine mr philip green arguably britain's greatest retailer he has given us top shop
05:59oxford street he's sectioned off an area especially for you you're going to select your own ranges of
06:05merchandise targeted for young girls the day after you're going to put it all on display in your own
06:12sections and you're open to the public pole position oxford circus the greatest retailing pitch in this
06:20country and it's very simple the team that ends up taking the most amount of money is going to win and the
06:27team that doesn't one of you will get fired over the next 48 hours the teams will be thrown into the
06:34center of britain's retail trade this is the largest clothing store in europe a hundred thousand square
06:44feet of retail space visited by a quarter of a million shoppers every week it's all about fashion
06:51fashion is fickle you know one minute you've got the right product it sells like hot potatoes the next
06:56minute you wouldn't be seen dead in it and that's why the skill in this task is choosing the right
07:02merchandise to help them choose sir alan's found each team a focus group we all in yep so we've prepared
07:12a list of questions we've got an hour to go through them so six form girls from chigwell school are
07:17typical customers they could offer a unique insight into the task ahead what is the kind of look at the
07:23minute what is what is what's trendy in the winter it's going into more like military style now if
07:28you were going to go to topshop and he's going to go on saturday what would you be buying it's all the
07:32like like like the jackets and stuff that have like the sort of like double buttons that make it look like
07:37a sailor outfit or like a okay yeah it's just a jacket yeah are you thinking about buying that kind
07:43of stuff or within the next week yeah yeah what we really need to know is kind of what top shop's all
07:49about so this is an opportunity for you guys just talk about clothes dunn's boys have fashion expert
07:54sharon on board um but with 14 teenage girls to chat up she's sidelined what can you like from a sales
08:02point you know you get the sales assistants who are actually on the floor what don't you like what
08:06approach don't you like i like advice but i hate if you push me i don't like that yeah no the pushy
08:14it might be that there has to be two people out of our team on the shop floor helping actually helping
08:18the girls find the clothes um how would you feel about that if lads were serving yeah whenever i
08:23everyone i prefer a gay guy that's absolutely fine
08:45i got a shitload from that did you yeah it was brilliant that coat thing is a big thing
08:49of winter coat and the jumpers they will spend money on the hats the scarves accessories was massive as
08:55well it was
09:022 30 p.m oxford circus
09:06the stores laid on a fashion show of its four main lines a military inspired range called admiralty
09:13modern oriental
09:20a retro style called aviator
09:24and all black gothic fairy tale
09:28each team can sell two lines having heard the focus group and seen the clothes they must choose
09:34items that'll appeal to shoppers but won't clash when mixed the teams have an hour to decide behind closed
09:42doors what we say admiralty and gothic or am i putting words into people's mouths i would go
09:50with you um okay i don't the stronger ranges are admiralty and aviator let's get consensus in the
09:58room first of which ones i'm going to be negotiated for because samuel's not in agreement i would like
10:02to be able to have a style that can take you from casual to dressy just by sticking on this secret
10:07and valera looking you can go to the party now that kind of thing yeah um and i think what the
10:11girls was talking about they wanted coats they wanted jumpers they wanted handbags which one is
10:17the most important that we get at the four gothic i'd still go for admiralty and aviator but i'll
10:24i'll obviously agree and support so i'm happy to go on with that if we're going to go for a casual then
10:32navy and aviator you can mix that you could mix gothic and aviator together i'm not really a big
10:40fan of the the aviator i think it's a bit boring so the two that i'd go for is the admiral and the
10:46modern oriental to mix it really mix it up if it comes back and haunts me the boardroom comes back
10:51and haunts me but i stand by this that i genuinely do not think that the oriental is going to look
10:56good very quickly with the all four options um it seems to me that the the modern oriental is the
11:01only option that we have that offers different colors now and a lot of girls when i go out shopping
11:06especially when i'm out going to bars and restaurants i see a lot of colorful stuff and i i appreciate it
11:10i know my friends appreciate it um so therefore i'd really push that with really honest i bought a
11:16beautiful oriental top and i've worn it once it was really hard to get better with my jeans it was
11:19really hard to get us getting that we had to sell it for the weekend i know but yeah i realize that
11:24i think sharon has the the fashion knowledge and the expertise but i can't stand her smugness
11:29but i'm hopefully uh on the south road be our turn to really turn it on and then sell because
11:35that's not something that sharon does i think we've had her input in a lot of things and i don't
11:39think we need any more basically ideally first and second choice admirality and gothic fairy tale
11:45with some colorful accessories to bring the range up cheers it was interesting when they were
11:50discussing the rangers that they weren't prepared to take what she suggested as a given in fact
11:56i think their instinct was to go for something else they haven't sat back and said you choose it
12:01sharon which i think i would have done had i been them because if she gets it right fine if she doesn't
12:05it's all her fault but they haven't been taking it that way the teams must tell nick and margaret what
12:12they've chosen if they've both gone for the same lines they'll have to negotiate dun will negotiate
12:19for his team while michelle has nominated ruth to negotiate for her what's your first choice we want
12:26gothic gothic's your first choice yeah which one was your first choice admiralty admiralty okay we would
12:36like gothic and admiralty we would like that too right okay if you give me gothic and aviator we can
12:46shake hands and walk away deal done yeah no if we both agree our number one choice we flick a coin for
12:55the second so if we both agree which one we definitely want and we flick a coin for the last one
13:00at least then we've both got a product that we want to sell make the decision you're the project
13:05manager we'll run it your way okay i'll get goth you get admiralty we'll flip for the last two yeah
13:12who's who's calling i'll call let's flip it heads heads yes okay we will have aviator yeah okay cheers
13:24them ruth walks off with gothic and aviator if i've got his eye contact i'm stronger than him i want yes
13:33to be honest i still stand by gothic and aviator they're going to walk out yeah but they weren't
13:39willing to give it up on it i know but you've got admiral and modern oriental it's just then you go
13:43they just don't go but seriously they just don't go yeah yeah we're fucked because i just i'm going
13:49to have a look i listen to you a bit listen can you ever run around with her face or that's very
13:56negative walking around like that in front of the other team is not good
14:03i'm not really impressed to be honest because we've got admiralty and we've got modern oriental
14:09and they're both really different ends of the spectrum so they don't actually complement each
14:14other well because they're two key looks at the moment we're kind of stuck so it'll be a case of
14:18just getting organized so a lot of creative thinking well let's prioritize we've got the leaflets
14:27confident it got the best lines the other teams put samuel in charge of marketing and if the customer
14:32spends over a certain amount we give them a free massage we need to determine that don't forget i go
14:38shopping all the time if you want a massage while you're out you don't want an indian massage when
14:43they're going to rip stuff in your air and all that sort of thing any new ideas uh no no not i can
14:48think of at the moment i need to i need to think about it but um obviously i was i'm sorry i don't
14:53know what are you suggesting i'm asking if you've got any other ideas and i'm saying no not at the moment
14:59while her team struggle with marketing michelle's promoted herself to the vip area
15:04or maybe that color i don't like this is where selected customers get personal advice on clothes
15:11to encourage them to spend even more i would give it a go she's decided to make this her responsibility
15:18but first she's going to try out the merchandise if i'm going to be totally honest i feel a little bit
15:24like a circus ringmaster what do you think i don't can i have some champagne while i'm trying on
15:37let me just look at how short it is when i bend over as well that's all right isn't it
15:41yeah because you've got the leggings on no one will be able to see your bum okay so whilst whilst i'm
15:45getting used to this let's just see what else we've got um where's her other stuff
15:49if it's a leaflet a promotional leaflet of some sort can we just come can i just finish what i'm
15:54saying for one second right so it's just 20 pounds if it's over 20 pounds aggressive no i'm not i want
16:00to confirm whether we're going to get me i'm just trying to finish one samuel i want to see if we
16:03actually get any ideas otherwise we're going to be going around she's going to come in and blow it
16:07all these are specific ideas we can't just say a leaflet to her obviously i said that point i think
16:11we have to be specific about what we're saying we need michelle in it come and be a vip thank you
16:18i'll come and be a vip person again it's going well i think i've just got my outfit sorted
16:24look that i'm favoring today is um a nice sleek sharp brown black t-shirt on the top
16:30with a kind of washed out faded denim shortish scare people are going to see me in the style and
16:35think crikey she's got style 6 p.m the team's head home back at the house tensions have finally
16:51come to a head between sharon and the boys it's obvious there's problems in the team i think it's
16:56about time we confronted them to be honest what's wrong show i think i've made my views quite clear
17:02that what i'm not upset what i'm upset about i don't know what's what you're upset about tell me
17:08you don't take my views into account um and you dismiss quite a lot of things i disagree to be
17:14totally honest you've got a lot of experience in fashion design and i'm happy to listen to you okay
17:19at the end of the day we made team decisions on whatever we made it was all team decisions you're
17:23three going to your little gang and it's almost like you're playing like kiddies thing and you gang up
17:28you're backing him and he's backing you and you and don have got a problem and he's having to
17:33got a problem and to be honest if that's i'm not being paranoid it's obvious that you've got the
17:38problem though i'm not the only one that's got a problem because you and paul are having a go at me
17:42don is a project manager sitting there quiet like he always does why i do not need to listen to three
17:47boys ganging up on me because you can't work as a team we were supposed to work as a team in this one
17:52how do you think that way he's going up paul's not going up with nobody i'm just getting tired of
17:56this whole team brush you just tell me one thing that i've done jaren do you know what now you're
18:01backing off no i won't shut up do you know what everybody's stabbing every in this house exactly
18:06so what's the problem the problem is is there is actually no i can see people licking each other's
18:13asses what have i actually said to you whatever fuck if if any wants to go head to head i'll go
18:18head to head to them okay do you know why because i've got shit from everybody
18:48so what else i did as well if i just give you one of these project manager michelle has allocated
19:09roles for her team on the shop floor while she runs the vip area i think you've got to empower a team
19:16you can't be there you can't be always looking over everything i do see ansel and roof as floor
19:20assistants i see salmon as the marketing visual kind of guy and i don't know why because i've never
19:26worked with him but it's kind of a gut instinct just before eight the teams get a first look at the
19:37floor area where they'll be selling this looks good together they must share it half each
19:46time in volume retailing presentation is everything
19:53and doing is struggling right done what do you want to be your two key sellers today what would sell
19:59no you pick whatever you want i'll dress so we've got basically one of each trend so what one do you want
20:04me to do for the busts i don't know what i'll sell whatever you think is going to be the most popular
20:10so can i ask you to do it i prefer for me the decision to be honest so what do you think this
20:16is the point i don't know i'm asking you for your advice well anything that we've got to be honest
20:22because we've picked it all we've got to sell it all so whatever you want
20:29i don't know what i'm i you know in this in this area sharon you're the one that knows more than we do
20:35and i'm just not you know i want to ask you to make a decision but you're not comfortable making a
20:40decision sharon is kind of self-confessed fashion expert in the team i just find it quite suspicious
20:48that she's not now willing to make any decisions as to what we put on where
20:51i don't know for one of that word i think she might be sulking aware nick and margaret are watching
21:00sharon changes tack and takes charge of dun's display
21:07how high come down two notches put that one up
21:10what so it's not it's okay now yeah it's okay there but put that up so let's let's put
21:16sharon so i just put all the signs and all that stuff here now yeah 10 12 yeah
21:25does that look tacky sharon yeah
21:31doors open in 10 minutes but a store rule is that sales people must wear what they're selling
21:40the teams have 12 hours to sell they can compete for the same customers and keep an eye on one
21:59another's progress but they can't sell items from the other team's lines promotion that we're doing
22:05as well at the moment is we're literally we're doing it on this half of the store today uh-huh not
22:10that yeah no it's not this half this half's much better i was going to say it depends what sort of
22:15yeah lady was waiting she was trying this on to okay oh right i thought we were looking to buy our
22:19products no no that's that her friend is buying a product with michelle oh right okay yeah no problem
22:23do you want to move over to your side then yeah yeah okay thank you i'm just going to go past
22:28tell your customers and just fart that is a good strategy free tea coffee soft drinks champagne is that
22:36something that you'd be interested in michelle's outside targeting tourists now all she's got to do
22:43is give them the vip treatment so can i get you a drink or anything um i can order tea and coffee but
22:53that will take some time to arrive what's wrong are you getting white from our air conditioning oh
22:59i'm sorry gosh let's move you sorry about that hiya we've got a new concession that's just opened
23:06top shop would you like a free bottle of water sure for michelle's team sam's strategy is to entice
23:12oxford street shoppers with free mineral water hiya we've got a new concession that's just opened up in
23:18top shop would you like a free bottle of water go on please come back and visit us he's hoping his
23:24free offer will lure girls inside to ruth and ansel over here you've got the gothic fairy town which is
23:31really in this winter but it's got some lovely jackets as you can see here thank you very much
23:37despite yesterday's rouse dun's team is off to a good start
23:41it's that color i'd put a red bell going diagonally on that they've got clear rolls i'm not just a
23:47pretty face am i sharon's running the changing rooms do you know where the jeans i won't put them
23:53underneath because that might be while on the shop floor paul is using old-fashioned flattery to sell
23:58you know the first thing i look about when i go and see women and having a drink what jacket they're
24:02wearing oh really yeah it's crucial to me don't you think why is that i just think it's the most
24:07important thing on the lady i think that and that and nice glasses and what can i say let's go to
24:13the mirror let's have a look autumn's here they look gorgeous go for it yeah okay cool and this is
24:19what everyone's buying for some reason i'm not sure that's definitely your color goes with your skin
24:24collection and what did you say you're a 10 okay here's a 12. all right would you like a complimentary
24:32drink from top shelf samuel's free water is disappearing fast a new concession that's just
24:38opened up along with the customers his other marketing idea a free massage has hit the spot
24:44for margaret but no one else i think it's a really lost opportunity actually because we really animate
24:50the event normally and we have a real buzz and a lot of people coming over and we're sort of in this
24:55corner here and i don't think anybody's really promoting us failing to turn his water into sales
25:05sam remains undaunted i think it's a good way of attracting attention and kind of you know um
25:11getting our customers you know trying to treat our customers well so i think it's a yeah absolutely
25:16it's a good idea did that look like the kind of clothes that you'd be interested in in the exclusive
25:25vip room michelle sold just one top but now hopes she's on to a winner with a trio of fashionable french
25:34day trippers pick some garments that we like the look of bring them back try them on um and if you like
25:40the look of anything feel free to buy so don't sell vous explique que ça c'est la salle privée en
25:44fait pour pour se changer et tout ça ce que vous pouvez faire c'est faire un tour dans le magasin
25:49so out of everything that you've tried on then is
26:18there anything that you liked that you would quite like to buy today
26:32so there's nothing from here that you'd like to buy um
26:36no not today maybe okay well thank you very much you've been doing some damage on the credit card
26:43thank you no honestly it has been um an absolute pleasure saying this because as soon as you put
26:47it on it sells itself so i don't have to say anything else on the shop floor the tills are ringing
26:54but only shop staff can take money so to keep the team sales separate duns a build as red and michelle's
27:01as blue
27:14early afternoon
27:16sir alan's decided to drop in on top shop owner philip green
27:20this is a retail phenomenon this floor takes 15 million pounds how much 50 million finding out
27:33what's the numbers we are ready yes
27:36he checks team sales okay thank you right who's in charge of the blue team that's michelle who's
27:46downstairs downstairs i'm part of the blue team you're part of the blue team right you've got
27:50a minute find me an outfit for a hundred quid an outfit for a hundred quid right okay
27:55outfit for a hundred quid you could have lost the sale by now it's done it's over there you go
28:05for a hundred pounds yeah fine good
28:09oh she's done it he said get me for 100 quid so i picked up that and a pair of jeans was 94 quid and
28:17then samuel said you've done it that's 66 pounds together where's that young lady right come here
28:25you're going to be unlucky now why you see less haste more attention that was 66 pound you cost
28:33yourself 34 pounds there you go thank you thank you have a good day give you a bit of help
28:47that's better michelle's been down in her vip suite since the doors opened
28:52hello michelle it's ansel hi yeah like the red team are 23 up on us really yeah so um we really
29:02need your back so that we can have a meeting and discuss it and decide what we're going to do
29:05okay mate i'll see you in a minute right cheers bye
29:16after almost an hour and a half with the french girls she's managed to sell one skirt
29:21for 30 pounds thank you great to meet you yeah so what's the actual figures do we know what the
29:27figures are we just said heard was 25 down 23 percent down the issue is we just got to be
29:33conscientious because whatever we're doing we need to decide what we're doing and that is go for the
29:37higher price items and we need to close people quickly so you can wear it to the office wear it home
29:44shopping trips with jeans that look well sussed you see there you've got nice tops for the evening
29:48wear okay there as well if i was to wear these i wouldn't just wear this here i'd wear it again and
29:53again and again that way you're 40 quid if you average it over the times you wear it comes to 20 20
29:59pence whatever do you know what i mean that i'll tell you that would look really nice as well with
30:03some kind of quite skinny jeans or you know jeans and boots or you could wear that with lots of things
30:08i think the main thing for michelle is she needs to be at of course she needs to be up front she's now
30:13starting to work in terms of bringing money in and when you've got four people in the team you need
30:17to be bringing money and in your different roles what about in terms of your formal jacket what about
30:21that one i think michelle weren't around centrally in terms of being here when we needed to make
30:28certain decisions so we ran a bit ragged but in fact i think ruth and i have made more decisions on today
30:33so far so um i think that's the thing it's better this afternoon this morning was not as good as it
30:38should have been probably 5 30 the rush hour home has started it's late night shopping if sales are
30:48going to take off this is when it'll happen but oxford street is a competitive place the teams will have
30:55to work hard to keep their customers we've got a new range i can just show you the range real quickly
31:00so it's uh this is really good the only thing i'd make you aware of is we're not here tomorrow
31:05so if you like the clothes we have to buy them now yeah can i just make a suggestion and then go
31:12quick it's very popular today so and it's yeah you tried it on you know you like it it's going to
31:17one of our bags okay thank you there you go okay thanks so that with jeans alone put the scarf on
31:23straight away you match it yeah it's really good really good yeah this is the must of the season
31:31you can mix and match this it's the biggest look this winter every purchase you get a free top shot
31:36bag this is the start of your new look michelle's team sales push pays off
31:42the figures are up on duns oh yeah we're now five percent behind
31:45five percent behind yeah apparently yeah i don't know to be honest let's see if we can find a decent
31:51size sweater duns team responds not helped by saeed chasing paul's customers i think that's gorgeous
31:59man that looks really nice but you need to try on the black skinny jeans to go with the whole outfits
32:03let's have a look hold on hold on let's have a quick look all right let's just do the mirror
32:06i can't remember the last sale that i was doing that saeed hasn't butted in on the overall there
32:13yeah and it's really starting to piss me off now wow i'll only try them on and see how it looks both
32:18together and then make your mind up there now's that cool excellent it just seems that whenever
32:22there's a girl about saeed just barges in with his skinny jeans and it's just really starting to piss me
32:28off don's team orders are for the boys to pass girls for the changing rooms to sharon
32:50that's arrogance are they arguing again like oh my saeed has got a lead i mean it's like it's
32:55fault you've got a lead bloody put it into a dressing room and you wouldn't hand it over
32:59because you need long slender legs and obviously you've got long slender legs and uh i'd put on
33:04boots i'd put on real hardcore boots and that's the look that is definitely the way forward because
33:11i think again it shows off your uh your figure and everything she's got it for once i certainly can
33:19yes yes absolutely there you go how's that yeah there we go and i'll just let me know when you're ready
33:3312 hours of standing in fashion shoes has taken its toll but there's just under two hours to go
33:52and nothing to choose between the teams if you want to go back on the shop floor i'll stand here and see
33:57if i can get some people in for the last hour i don't want that no give it a go okay excuse me
34:02ladies can i show you our new rangers out today i'll take you to dinner afterwards we can buy all
34:08our jackets all cuddle up i'd love to it's my leaving dinner oh you know i'm so sad you're leaving as

34:28want a little jacket jacket just have a little quick look come on what do you think of that a bit more
34:35military a bit more style covers your bum that's quite nice what's wrong with that bum now if it was
34:42up to me i would keep them uncovered but i'm just thinking of your hygiene yes they're the skinny jeans
34:46the famous skinny jeans with your jeans actually if you think now you'll be going out to a bar it's fantastic
34:52you buy it we'll get married really come on it's so lovely it is so lovely i'm mr tulip
34:58mr tulip i mean imagine the beautiful blooming relationship we can have with that name
35:03what to do hey go for it what's the worst that can happen it can divorce me well you'll be young free
35:10and single and come back and buy some more clothes then you buy it we'll get married honestly and here we
35:15have the skinny jeans nice for a pair of jeans if you're going out in the evening nice for a pair of
35:20trousers if you look to your lovely trousers excuse me can i show you our new range of coats that are
35:24out today in our new range oh what have you bought yeah the brown one oh sweet do you want to have a
35:30look at new jacket nothing against yours i'm sure it's lovely and nice and warm but i've got a much
35:34better one in there that i can sell to you right now we've got this brand new range that we've launched
35:37today it's not maternity but in nine months time play cards right quickly i mean if you wanted to try
35:41them on what size are you and if you feel the level it's not the best way to buy them oh i need a
35:47gold one well we're over we're having this new launch you see it's uh well yeah but you didn't see
35:54these jackets i think this lady's got a purchase in now
35:57should i pour some water on my feet look at my blisters look at my blisters
36:16oh can you imagine getting into bed tonight do you know what i want to do now put them in the
36:19swimming pool oh yeah let's just call it a day i'm going to sleep with my jeans on
36:42eight candidates remain they've given up highly paid jobs for a chance to work for sir alan
36:49now one of them is about to get fired
37:19you can go through to the boardroom now
37:49so dun how'd you like being a team leader i've got newfound respect for the project management
38:14role it's hard work good team leader don't all rush
38:23i'll move on rapidly then shall i um michelle how'd you find it yeah really enjoyed it it's good
38:30good team leader i thought so i'm very well prepared okay
38:36right down to the money side of things over to you nick will you let me know how velocity did
38:42velocity sales totaled two thousand five hundred and forty eight pounds
38:48margaret and in victor sold two thousand six hundred and sixty eight pounds
38:56well well done your team won quite a few compliments actually um from from the uh top
39:01shop people about sharon they reckon they would employ you uh so if i fire you next week you know where to
39:07go for your next job i've got a very nice treat for you you're going off to a famous country hotel for
39:13the night so you have a good time we'll see you in the boardroom next time round you lot off you go
39:20outside one of you will be fired i'll call you back in
39:34three times in a fucking row i've lost
39:53i'm more disappointed in the way that the teams reacted than i am that we've lost
39:57i was very surprised at ansel and sam's responses in the boardroom when sarah and asked if i was a
40:03good project manager because all the way along the task i've constantly been saying are you happy
40:08could i be doing anything better and each time the response has been you're doing a great job
40:12but now it seems that the guy's strategy is very quickly to turn on me as a pm
40:17i mean i think ruth is pretty disruptive uh she's a you know big personality i don't think she listens
40:23and she's you know very disruptive in in discussions and and has probably confused michelle without a
40:29doubt i'm going into the boardroom there's no two ways about it michelle will not put ruth who's a good
40:33friend of hers into the boardroom so it'll be samuel and i and michelle going into the boardroom that's
40:38facts
40:50yeah
40:54this is just amazing
41:01follow up follow up
41:02i blew my load pretty early so sorry
41:21hi guys uh a quick toast i just want to say three wins um exceptional uh from everyone um
41:30especially sharon i think you're working uh it's difficult for you working with three guys um
41:35you're absolutely gorgeous and let's keep on winning cheers guys cheers everybody cheers
41:59hello hi jenny would you uh send them in please
42:16you can go through to the wardroom now
42:35you looked a bit shocked to me michelle that you lost there was a look of complacency about you that
42:40you you thought you might have uh won this thing no no i don't think we would have won
42:45by miles i personally think was just unlucky you know i think everyone sold hard i think um
42:52definitely towards the end we had a great process in place of getting people in to the floor to the
42:55fitting room to the cash desk
42:59from what i can understand you dished out kind of a written kind of job profile for these people did
43:05you not what we did as a team is set up a role structure which i was very confident in would
43:10work i don't know very well you know saying well all right okay you'll do this and you'll do that and
43:15you'll do this but i think a team leader should constantly be making sure that they are doing what
43:21you want them to do and if not just throughout the course of the day modifying or prompting them
43:25to do what you want them to do and i did do that i didn't just write something and then go off and
43:30not bother again it was off downstairs quite a bit wasn't it i certainly was i was i mean don't you
43:34think you should be in it with your troops i don't need to micromanage my team i don't need to stand
43:38next to them and watch what they're all doing really i think those french people you spent an
43:42hour and 20 minutes with them i did yeah and you sold them a 30 quid skirt yeah yeah did that ring
43:47a bell with you what am i doing wasting my time down here i should be upstairs not at all i've got
43:53trust in ruth and ansel battlefield was the sales floor yeah you could see everything going on and yet you
43:58were miles behind the lines downstairs in a vip room yeah for the morning i was and we quickly
44:04recognized that that probably wasn't you you didn't quickly recognize i think the ansel came and told
44:08you at 2 30 there was a bit of a roll call on the money and you were 23 behind right yeah at which
44:13point then at that point i would have said enough's enough you know i'm coming up to the battlefield i'm
44:18going to reorganize the troops now what what do you mean no i didn't need to be on the sales floor
44:23these two was doing a great job you did need to be in the south so i think that's where you know your big
44:27error is quite frankly if i was given this task i would want to be right in the middle of the action
44:31and see what's going on i could always run backwards and forwards to the dressing room why don't you put
44:36ruth in the dressing room because you put your best people where they're going to work best these two
44:41are good sales people why would i show the best salesperson i've got in a fitting room in all fairness
44:46to michelle she was making the best of the opportunity in there listen right there is only one job going
44:51here right one job only i'm not happy with all this camaraderie stuff so you better start thinking
44:58about yourselves do you understand what i'm saying all this complementary stuff between each other is
45:03going to get you nowhere because i'll tell you what if any of you survive here i'll promise you this
45:07as sure as i got hole in my bloody ass right when it gets down to two of you all these people that
45:13are saying nice things about you at the moment will not so start thinking about yourself ruth she's
45:19telling me that you're one of the strongest salespeople on the floor in comes the most
45:23important man of the day mr green yeah and for some reason rather decided he was going to help you
45:30out and then when he helps you out he says give me 100 pounds of a clobber and what do you do give him
45:3466 pounds worth sir alan if you don't think i've gone through that every minute of last night something
45:39should have rung bells in your head then my god i mustn't mess this up yeah and this is the time to be
45:44the cheekiest as possible actually i would have brought him over 200 pounds of stuff myself
45:49i would have said to him look well there's the hundred pounds that you wanted but by the way
45:52while you're here as a man that could obviously afford so i could recommend this and recommend
45:57that you were dead slow there dead slow there you could have won this task maybe i reckon if you'd
46:02talk good enough you could have got 300 quid out of him who was getting people in samuel yeah i don't
46:09think so i happen to observe him not doing much at all quite frankly what was your brief um basically
46:17what i wanted to do initially was just see how we could get customers in and get them to the
46:21sales people um i noticed that customers what's this then what what was this all about that that
46:27that was uh something that it was advertising using to advertise the complementary therapy and that sort
46:32of stuff but you couldn't take this outside the shop and give it to people i could have and i think
46:36oh you didn't no i didn't yep no i think i i think uh you know i didn't recognize that uh hold my
46:42hands up to that was that was an error uh on my part uh absolutely but we didn't tell one of you
46:49that she didn't know what she's doing hanging around she wasn't too busy she'd time to give both nick
46:53making me a hand massage okay can i can i i agree that that was that was an error on my part absolutely
47:00but we we chose the strategy this is an error on your part well anything else that's the that's the
47:06one that i'm holding my hands up to definitely so were you satisfied with his marketing well i'm
47:10completely confused because who you confused with them i didn't even know about those did you ask
47:14whether you you didn't know about those leaflets was that because you were downstairs and didn't see
47:18them no not at all i saw one on the cash desk i didn't know that we could have them printed and
47:22hand out of course we would have got them without so so he didn't tell you about them no i didn't not
47:27i did not know we didn't having delegated marketing to him and coming back to the point that i made
47:33to you earlier on why weren't you just throughout the course of the day checking up on what what he
47:39was doing it seemed to me i'm i'm absolutely right in my observation you tell them to do marketing and
47:45you let them to get on with it now you're finding out what you could have done what you couldn't
47:48down on a wrong time okay sir sir can i raise an issue then in that kind of project and it was to
47:53do with the clothing choice uh we as when we did the market research myself and michelle co-led the
47:57market research so i asked the questions if you're going to buy one item what's the item you're going
48:01to buy next week they all came back with coat military style so when we came to the clothing choice
48:06and we looked at all the clothing admiralty was a clear match for those for that need and for some
48:12unknown reason gothic became the number one priority okay i don't agree with that that's exactly what
48:17happened we vote what you actually said we show design so i was happy can i just so i was happy
48:22to accept project leader project leader michelle what are you doing what about this debate you've
48:27been very quiet on this particular debate when we went down into top shop the main sales area which
48:32they told us was the main sales area the vast majority was dedicated to gothic the entire right hand
48:39block was gothic yeah but the point is that the shop was flooded with gothic the customers could buy
48:45that already the hot one was admiralty okay listen michelle you know what you got to do now you got
48:52to decide upon two people you bring back in here who you justifiably think didn't perform in this task
48:59okay all personality issues friendships lovey-dovey stuff should go to one side okay who you bringing
49:07back in the boardroom with you and based on some of the feedback that you've given me i'm going to bring
49:10sam because of the marketing and roof because of what he said about not giving the hundred pounds
49:17right okay and so off you go back to the house you have a three and remain outside
49:32that's the right decision that was the right decision
49:36it's the right difference don't worry
49:38good luck mate
49:40good luck guys
49:54she's picked ruth because of what you said exactly apart from that one thing ruth was fantastic on the day
50:01i mean i think she made some bad mistake she's got no business you know absenting herself more the key
50:10decisions
50:13okay well we'll bring them back in
50:18hello would you uh send them in please thank you sam
50:22so we'll see you next
50:39michelle what is ruth doing in here it's very difficult to pick an error on this task because
50:43everybody has performed really really well we picked up the error about phil green there was a missed
50:48opportunity have you made an assumption bringing people in this room on the basis of what you
50:52think you've gleaned from me saying here not at all you see i don't know if you're trying to
50:56make me happy because you heard what i was saying here and i've and i've labored on this point about
51:00philip green and then you think she should come in here and get done for that i think that's a
51:05wrong thing to do so while there's a wrong thing so why would i've brought ansel in neither of
51:09them did anything wrong in terms of selling neither of them so you think you're going to make me happy
51:14by bringing her in here because i pointed out something wrong if i could choose i would have
51:18brought one person in this boardroom full stop i have to do samuel and why is that because i do
51:23think that we missed opportunities in marketing i was not aware that we could have taken more
51:28why weren't you aware i mean you're the team leader that's my whole point about you is that you
51:33know i just get this feeling you sat down with your computer wrote out you know three menus for
51:38these people said go on off you go that's not true right it's true it's absolutely true what i
51:44asked all of them to do was to think about what the roles could be what they could entail try and
51:48expand it a little bit to get everyone happy with what they were doing michelle ultimately made the
51:52decision as to who she believed would be the sales people and allocated me to marketing so i took the
51:58marketing role and i accept the leaflet issue absolutely okay that i accept response do you accept that
52:04you were the one who was the most delinquent on this team then no because i think the critical
52:09issue as i've said before was the selection of clothing so if you're not if you don't think you're
52:14the weakest link who is i think it was michelle can i actually comment on that and i'm going to
52:18say something here samuel you come across sometimes you're very aggressive and you get your points
52:22across you certainly do in the boardroom but you had the opportunity in that team to sway it now if i
52:27disagree with something strongly i will say we are making a mistake and i'll make people hear me to be
52:32honest we spent a lot of time bickering between myself and ruth ruth is a very strong obviously
52:37uh vocal personality and i disagreed with her in that meeting okay and we did can i just finish
52:43first of all we did disagree in that meeting and you were being very i made a note of it because you
52:47were very being very negative in that meeting so every suggestion that i was coming up with
52:51you were being you were saying no no we can't do that we have to check this i'll tell you something
52:55for one though so can i just can i just say one thing it's all about decision making and you don't
52:58actually make any tell me ruth who should go then i've got to say if you'd have been
53:02stronger samuel i'd listen to you in the meeting samuel do you think it was a fault a floor that
53:08michelle spent so much time downstairs in the first morning yes and i would agree with that i think it
53:13was yeah i do and it could have been in the straw that broke the camel's back no because we're a team
53:17and the one thing michelle did do as project manager was call up everybody i think the right
53:21decision was put me and ansel on the floor but how many lost sales were there because michelle was down
53:26in the vip room for half a day and sold 130 pounds i wasn't down for half a day pretty much
53:32you're still saying samuel should go do you i mean this is if you want me to be completely honest i'm
53:37tall and i am and i always give direct answers there's flaws on this side and there's flaws on
53:41samuel's side if samuel felt very strong about the products he should have swayed me in that room
53:47your comeback was michelle should be sacked because we've got the wrong product range i disagree without
53:51a question michelle right what i think you've got a lot to answer for you convinced me why i
53:56shouldn't get rid of you today because i think i've delivered on this project i have delivered your
54:01only criticism of me is the wrong wage and wrong wage and i disagree the marketing was diabolical hold on
54:07you're ultimately in charge of it yeah you never picked up on it and your own admission you didn't
54:11even know leaflets were around you know digging a hole for yourself really no not at all yeah you are
54:16you are you're digging a hole you have to empower people within your team to do the i'm sorry it's
54:21just not acceptable if i'm out there doing something i want to see what the troops are doing i don't think
54:27you were there doing enough of that in the morning you only came up when the when the bell started
54:31ringing no yeah yeah you did you came up at 2 30 when the bell started ringing in a room with somebody
54:36and all they do after an hour is spending well i hold you totally responsible in fact i have this vision
54:42of you dishing out what your job is and this that and having you get on with it right back right
54:47well back me up you two did i dictate a role to you i hold you responsible for this i don't think
54:57you managed it very very well but samuel i've had enough of your excuses you have not convinced me
55:07here at all in any way or form that you contributed to this i think you made a fatal error in the
55:12marketing you're fired okay well done guys my whole feeling's not more about it
55:37definitely i've fucked up on the task and it should have made better use of the masseuse
55:46i should be more proactive about that i wasn't um and i got burned for it you know so um but you know
55:52that was my mistake and i paid for it i think i was vocal enough and i expect people around me to be
55:58professional enough to listen to a sensible argument and obviously that wasn't the case and it kind of
56:03seemed to be he or she in fact who shouts loudest gets heard so maybe i should do more shouting
56:13one job now just seven candidates remain sir alan's search for his apprentice continues
56:20next week the candidates get a wake-up call where's everyone in their bed they're just gonna get
56:31right go get them now right come and hurry up the tasks we've got today i would suggest one of the
56:42toughest tasks i have set because it's gonna sort the men out from the boys yes selling to trade the
56:49skill sir alan built his empire on i can do this it can be done can the candidates spot the must-have
56:57product don't be in rude to the lady it's bent metal and can they close deals with hard-nosed buyers this
57:04is a new contemporary quite funky cosmopolitan minimalistic coat stand i'm gonna ram these
57:11things down to people's throats today what an absolute wanker we could give you eight for 200
57:16pounds it's not really getting and stretching your budget i felt like he was a second-hand car salesman
57:21so if we sell anything below that we are making a loss which means i'll get sacked you're fired
