00:00This is not a game. This is a 12-week job interview. Never, ever, ever underestimate me.
00:15Fourteen people came to London in search of a job.
00:19I don't like liars. I don't like cheats.
00:23I don't like bullshitters. I don't like schmoozers. I don't like arse lickers.
00:34They've come to battle it out for a job with Sir Alan Sugar.
00:38I would have told you to piss off.
00:40Tough and uncompromising, Sir Alan is at the top of his game with a global empire worth £700 million.
00:49He's offering one job with a six-figure salary.
00:53I'm gonna fucking win this night if it kills me.
00:55To get it, they'll have to work and live together and face a weekly business task.
01:01You can't fucking fire me.
01:03Do you feel the pressure is building?
01:05This is the ultimate job interview.
01:07You're fired. You're fired. You're fired.
01:10You're fired. You're fired.
01:19Sir Alan set an advertising task I've written books on advertising check books
01:25the two teams had to make a TV commercial and press advert for a CD player jukebox is back
01:34you're gonna be shooting from here project manager Paul got carried away shooting the
01:40commercial leaving the press ads to Syrah and the presentation to Rachel Miriam kept
01:55her team under control producing a campaign so impressive it was obvious who'd won broad who
02:07won I would say they've won spot on well done having lost Paul chose Syrah and Rachel to take
02:14the rap with him nothing to do with you having a little altercation on the last task then as I
02:20walked out I shook hands with Sarah that's an absolute lie we did not shake hands I am a Roman
02:25Catholic and as God is my witness I shook her hand outside well I'm Jewish and I couldn't get less you
02:30too I better stop bickering but what is disappointing me more than anything else is this bloody load of
02:37nonsense here Rachel you wasted your time and because she wasted your time you're fired Rachel
02:46became the sixth casualty of the boardroom now only eight remain to fight for the chance to become the
02:54apprentice back at the house the survivors wait to see who will return
03:05come on welcome back I'm in absolute shock I mean every single one of us got a beating basically
03:32so I'm just said it was fucking shit I tell you what between the three of us it was a centimeter
03:39each way and I'll tell you why I'm here is because I've got a gob on me and I will fight tooth and nail
03:45to being in the position that's it he was like you lot a bunch of tosspots and I actually thought you
03:52know what silent again you're right bruised by Cyrus attacks Paul is uncharacteristically quiet the
04:04Cyrus a talker and she started rabbiting and that was the end of that you know I've done a lot of
04:07talking today in the boardroom and you know I'll talk when it suits me rather than just yank on like
04:14sire so what she said was basically drivel but I just couldn't be asked to spin more drivel on the
04:21weather if Paul was here right now I say Paul on the next task I would not like to work with you
04:26because I want to be on the winning team and I think if you guys want to work with him and you
04:31think he's a you know whatever go ahead but as far as I'm concerned he's a liability
04:35hello it's Francis here from Sir Alan's office hello Francis Sir Alan would like to meet you
04:53tomorrow morning yep okay the cars will pick you up at 6 30 okay bye
04:59long we're gonna leave it a call past six tomorrow to be in East London early night
05:06then anything else that's it
05:10sir Alan has called the teams to hackney where he grew up he's involved in the restoration of one
05:25of the area's best-loved landmarks in 12 hours the hackney Empire reopens to the public with a
05:32fundraising gala that forms the stage for the next task but first the boss has to separate Paul and
05:45Sarah I'm gonna sort the teams out got eight of us now Paul just stand over there and Sarah come
05:52stand over here now it's quite common knowledge that the pair of you have not got on in the last
05:58couple of weeks or so and I don't want to get into the debate on that we're gonna reshuffle the teams
06:03and the good news as far as I'm concerned is you're going to be on one team and you're going to be on
06:08another team start picking a person for your team James Tim Raj Benjamin Sebastian it's a pleasure to
06:24have you Miriam now you're assembled as two new teams Ben you're about the only one that hasn't
06:31been a project manager so I'm not actually suggesting it but it might be a good idea if
06:36you want to show me your skills if you consider it as you know it's a very responsible position
06:42because I think all of you have been in the boardroom on a losing team by now have you not except for of
06:48course James but there's always a first time there is this particular place means quite a lot to me
06:55because I was born just a few yards down the road and went to school just over the road there also
07:01so the task this week is going to be for you to come up with the money that's needed for this great
07:06theatre now tell you how we're going to do it I've lined up ten celebrities you're going to have to go
07:11and see these very important temperamental people and you're going to have to use your negotiating and
07:18persuasive powers to get something out of them that we're going to auction here and the team whose
07:23five items raised the most amount of money are going to win the team whose five items don't raise
07:29the most money will obviously lose and one of you in that team will get fired the new teams separate
07:38to choose their project manager not particularly difficult decision no I have been hiding behind
07:44the others why not I mean it's tactic number one isn't it if you can stay out of the boardroom as
07:51long as you possibly can then then why not do it and and I think if you're your project manager if
07:57you lose you're going in on you successful people I knew I had to be project manager at some point so
08:03I couldn't have dragged it out really any further in the other team James throws his hat into the ring
08:09keen to show sir Alan he is management material at some point I will have to go into the boardroom now
08:15is as good a time as any and quite frankly as long as I'm performing it doesn't matter whether I'm on
08:20the winning team or the losing team hopefully sir Alan won't be picking me each team has a list of
08:26sir Alan's ten VIPs I think that perfect dinner with Michael winner at his best restaurant that would
08:31be a good one the teams are called together to pick five VIPs each under the supervision of sir
08:40Alan's advisor Nick Hewer it's it is cool go first okay our first choice of VIP is Michael winner our
08:53first choice is Mel Smith okay now Ben goes on to pick garden designer Dermot Gavin two cast members of
09:03Chicago ex-footballer Ian Wright and chef Anthony moral Thompson James goes for breakfast show host
09:13Eamon Holmes hypnotist Paul McKenna rugby star Richard Burkett and politician Mo Molan convinced they've made
09:23the best choices both teams head for internet cafes to research their celebrities but Sebastian gets off
09:29to a shaky start Mel Smith has very kindly agreed to take part in a charitable auction event and for the
09:38hackney what's exactly it's the hackney empire which is a theater in the East End I'm one of the
09:50individuals trying to organize the event oh we're calling from happening yes no well I did it was just
09:59a slight lapse project leader just isn't impressed it would be very helpful if you can remember the
10:06name of the place that I do so let's all remember that I have obviously given you sheets that you may
10:13want to read before you make the next course so that you can actually talk a little bit about what it
10:17is that we're trying to do let's just see that as a little pointer Ben's team are off to a rendezvous
10:27with their first celebrity Michael has been involved in charity auctions in the past wicked so he's up for it
10:37basically oh I think so but is he up for giving us his roller or Aston Martin I think he has in mind
10:43might be a bit of a push but we could try that we are the cheeky boys we are the cheeky boys
10:49we are the cheeky boys we are the cheeky boys he's the one that wears them you know the arse cheeky
11:01ones not that I look at them so around here somewhere is it then oh my goodness there it is
11:10that is huge that is colossal aware of Michael Winner's reputation as a ladies man Ben gets Miriam
11:21to do the talking now what can I do for you well we really appreciate your time and uh I just want
11:30to outline a little bit about the charity auction that we're hoping that you'll contribute to what is
11:36the charity so it's Hackney Empire which is there are people starving there are people dying there
11:43is famine and drought there are British people who cannot get into hospitals there is malnutrition and
11:49you are collecting for a variety theatre I think the theatre has a very important place in the
11:54community it's very much always been the heart and center of that community and they're very keen to
11:58help underprivileged kids who might end up what about children who are dying this is what we're
12:04hoping to achieve today is for the Hackney Empire and they've been through a big refurbishment and
12:08we want to help them finish that so that they can continue on their absolutely essential work in
12:13that community very good does anyone else speak or just you well anyone can speak but we thought it
12:18would be better that we didn't all swap you they delegated you to speak absolutely that's very nice
12:22that's all right fellas very tactical in this day and age delegate the woman to speak that's politically
12:27correct what have you got to say well just to reiterate don't reiterate it I've heard it already
12:33James's team are with Paul McKenna a personal hero of Raj who's offered to lead the negotiation firstly
12:45thank you very much for meeting us really appreciate the time basically obviously you know I'm a great
12:50fan of yours you know and you know your shows and stuff but but Raj is completely starstruck on what
12:57you know what roughly what you do and you know and basically how how did you obviously you used to
13:01DJing you know and you've moved into you know the hypnotism you know hypnosis type of thing why why
13:09you know what made you kind of take that on full-time because it looks like it's a fairly full-time task now
13:14oh yeah I've been doing this for years I don't know whether Paul McKenna did or did not warm to him
13:19and that's really important in business to get people to warm to you um you know if if we could
13:24you know ask you to do something well you know Raj comes in ours a lot how does that initially sound
13:31then it makes it difficult for somebody to listening to grab hold of you know what's an important message
13:36and what isn't we've had various ideas you know obviously not knowing exactly you know sorry I just
13:40wanted to ask um whether you had either thought about coming or whether you'd like to come worried that
13:44the negotiation is going nowhere James steps in do you think we could consider it an either or and I
13:50just wondered what you thought about doing some kind of after-dinner speech or something at a maybe
13:55at a corporate event or something yeah well it is the kind of thing I do the only thing is that that
14:02would be that would require quite a big commitment I must tell you I once auctioned myself yes now that
14:09four meanwhile Michael winner has been won over by Miriam's charm myself for drinks and canopies here
14:17and I'm sorry to say it I have never spent such a boring two hours in my life so that I ain't doing
14:24again so you ain't gonna do that exactly but I tell you what I will do uh-huh I will give you a table for
14:29people London's most difficult restaurant to get in is that the ivy namely the ivy yes that sounds
14:34wonderful and I will give them a meal for four yes two bottles of house wine yes and if it is on a
14:40day where I am available I will personally come and pour the wine this means they will get it over their
14:44clothes and a small amount with luck may go into the glass if somebody wants to quit smoking or lose
14:52weight or overcome a phobia or you know has some other issue that they might want to deal with
14:57James secures a highly prized personal hypnosis session from Paul McKenna but Syrah wants more I
15:03mean you mentioned your book which is a bestseller would it be possible perhaps for us to have signed
15:08a copy of that you know the main item clearly is the session because that's the thing that money can't
15:13buy whereas you know all the other things are a tenner or something like that with your session as
15:21well somebody would want to read the book to kind of get an understanding and then go for the session
15:25okay fantastic do you have a video that goes with the book I have DVDs for weight loss and smoking
15:33actually it's fine I can put the DVDs in the app thank you all right well thank you very much for
15:38your time I think it's up is that all it's been an absolute pleasure to me oh lovely it's very
15:43good despite Raj's wobbly start James's team leaves with armfuls of stuff next call comedian Mel
15:52Smith and Sebastian's chance to take the lead I think our team approach was to treat each person
16:03with respect hi Raj we were very conscious of the fact that they were celebrities and you know there
16:09was a possibility that if we push them too far they could turn around say well look you know I don't
16:13really like you you know I'm not giving you nothing right so what mr. thank you very much for agreeing to
16:20see us obviously for me it's a huge pleasure because I'm a great fan of your work I think it is for the
16:24rest of the team while Sebastian tries flattery Ben's team is at the Adelphi theatre with two members of
16:31the cast of Chicago ideally what we'd like to do is try and keep an open-ended ticket let's have a
16:38let's have a listen to some other a weekend to Chicago in the USA flying them out personally
16:44could I go with them well I certainly can't afford to somebody to Chicago so we've been sort of thinking
16:56many things through we have a number of ideas but before we sort of launch into those I thought it might
17:00be appropriate to ask you a number of questions I get to understand a little bit more about you your
17:04backgrounds your interests your hobbies what sort of events do you enjoy in terms of it's not just
17:10a broad question get a feel for what what you might enjoy doing just because that may open up some other
17:17avenues that we could potentially explore Sebastian wasn't getting to the point and I was kind of
17:21reading mouth with body language a little bit and he was just kind of not really opening up still
17:26doesn't decide the question of what is it you want me to yeah can I just kind of narrow down and say
17:32you're doing this play so on that note would it be possible potentially to auction off some tickets
17:37to the premiere yeah more probably of that yeah the first night so as I say maybe even a drink with you
17:44before or after certainly brilliant how many people do you think it's reasonable to offer it for is it
17:51something because clearly the four four four brilliant that's great okay see the show yeah you know VIP
17:59treatment to meet you know the cast of Chicago how many people could we extend the offer to I can't say
18:05let me give you a figure 50 I think we could do 50 is that do 100 Ben definitely has a very successful
18:18edge to him he goes for the jugular 50 50 75 I can have a drink with them beforehand and then they can see the
18:28play and then I'll take them on to the the after-show party I hate after-show parties I never go to film
18:37premieres you know because it's a film you don't want to see but I think this will be just fine and
18:44I'll make sure with two meetings still to go the teams break for lunch and Paul's got his optimism back
18:55I picked this team with the help of it you know everyone else and really this is the team for
19:03negotiating the other side have a good team themselves but it's not a negotiating team and I think they're going to
19:09struggle not that we're sitting back and you know wrestling on our laurels we're not we know that we have the
19:14advantage and we're going to make sure that we bring that advantage home well I think we've actually negotiated
19:22really really well we've done it in a way that suits the person they didn't feel threatened by us did
19:28they we have pushed it a little bit but we've been professional enough to say no that's a no-go
19:32you know we'll take what was given absolutely right next for James and his team the GMTV studios and
19:44presenter Eamon Holmes please take a seat thank you very much indeed welcome to our humble abode
19:50before James can get going Eamon gives the team a full-on TV chat show schmooze sorry I could talk to
20:01you all day I think you and I relate to now you're sitting on the couch I know it's good stuff is it the
20:12way you imagine it to be I'm not at all no scared TV studios are normally smaller and grubbier than you
20:18ever imagine yeah presenters though are taller sleeker he's obviously gardening orientated what else did
20:30you groom from well Ben's team is on route to TV celebrity garden designer Dermot Gavin I mean he
20:36is quite famous for wearing a particular leather jacket you know if we get down to that yeah to
20:42you there that red and black one I don't think you'll part with that but we can ask him hasn't
20:47he got a motorbike yeah he's a biker you can we have his motorbike buoyed by their success getting 50
20:53Chicago tickets Ben's team are thinking big that would be a nice one wouldn't it that would be a
20:58nice one go ask him that one well ask him what motorbike he's riding because if it's a piece of
21:03shit we'll probably won't want it bike and the jacket yeah and his leather jacket full tank of
21:10fuel yeah and tax I was gonna be taxed no nonsense I don't want a flat tire and no tax we were thinking
21:19whatever you could do to help us raise as much money as we can for hackney for the Empire for the
21:25area I know that you have a motorbike and you know that well I think it comes through in the
21:34shows you know I've never been on my motorbike haven't you no so your bikers jacket is just you
21:40just stumbled upon an embarrassing fact yeah I have a bike it's my ambition to ride it but I never you
21:48have to do one of these theory tests now yeah so for three and a half years I've had a bike sitting in
21:53the garage what what bike is it it's a Suzuki 600 but it's very holy tuned very fast well you know
21:59that we are trying to raise as much money as we can do yeah and how about I say to you that you
22:05don't even need to take that theory test if you donate that bike to us I wouldn't because the bike
22:12signifies a dream of first of all and also if somebody did themselves any damage on that bike
22:19afterwards I would feel very bad oh because it's highly tuned it's really highly charged do you
22:24maybe have a 350 perhaps you could just tell us a little bit about what your passions are and the
22:32things that you would get excited about doing which makes you know take sleeping I get very excited about
22:37sleep I don't think we can offer a prize I mean we could do that if you like but I don't think you'd
22:45necessarily want to be up for that no no no no no but we know that you've got a real passion for
22:49for football Manchester United and sports in general a little bit of golf I like sports doesn't
22:55really have any influence the biggest pain in the ass is because I support man you people think that
23:01you you somehow can get football signed and that you have a hotline Alex Ferguson he's going to say
23:06hold everything here hold that 30 million sign of Wayne Rooney even Holmes is on for another signed shirt
23:12what about them to keep it simple an evening with yourself and probably Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen
23:18whereby people can speak to you about garden design house design and so on with the possibility maybe
23:26that's because of Florence's flair for style and fashion and so on that he might be willing to let's
23:32say donate a suit and you could be prepared possibly to donate your bikers jacket that you wear the black
23:39leather jacket with the red and so on what about if we could price something like that off you yeah
23:45does that could do that yeah yeah it's still more world would be a better place if we got rid of one
23:54or two of Lawrence's suits other things we thought about if you're involved in the National Lottery
24:01pressing the didgeridoo on the old lottery balls no candy no candy no chance it would be a dangerous
24:08precedent to start right starting this Saturday night said 10 million pound rollover is a woman who
24:15bid 15 quid at an auction okay so let's let's not go down that route Eamon isn't budging an inch but
24:25Dermot has been charmed into signing half his life away you don't want to take the lease on the
24:30officer and my dad if you want if you want for it no no no no we're quitting while we're ahead so
24:37can I just confirm that you that you are prepared to part with your signature jacket oh people that
24:43we wanted the okay you can have two pairs of socks instead of the jacket it would be great if we
24:57could have the jacket because it's a piece of you it is it's very identifiable it really is very
25:03identifiable please for hackney damn it to the children of hackney deadman let's have the jacket
25:11I don't know I'll have to think with that one okay we can't that's not because we can't put it on
25:15here so we know we've got enough we've got a great thing we already have in fact no see thank you
25:21thank you I still want that jacket you probably have more chance of getting the bike yes thank
25:29you very much thank you go back to the bike then if you want the bike and if you can guarantee that
25:35only somebody who knows it to use it oh we can have the bike you can have the bike that is great
25:43okay thank you thank you wonderful man that is a beautiful thing no problem many thanks to me
25:51good luck with it smashing thank you very much indeed thanks for time bye oh what a top bloke amazing
25:56we get beef burger and chips from Michael winner we get a Suzuki 600 really a man finally relents
26:12and offers a tour of the GM TV studio often all people want to do is look they want to stand in
26:19the background look but most of all people want to leave with a picture they want to leave with
26:23something tangible that they sat on the couch here and that myself and Fiona were beside them and
26:29there's more I think maybe a cherry on the cake would certainly be breakfast yeah well we could well you
26:40see again I mean I have to pay for that you know so so that's that so depends on luxurious you want it
26:46I mean we can do the we can do the we can do the canteen version which which which which then see
26:53you get the view of St Paul's and things or you can go outside to a hotel or whatever if you can go
26:57around to Simpsons on the Strand or or the Ritz or anywhere and and and brag breakfast to them then
27:03you can include that but in terms of of my diary my commitments and everybody else's goodwill this is the
27:10best you're getting folks it's absolutely Ben's team are off to their final negotiation and feeling
27:18optimistic they're meeting Tim's idol the former England footballer Ian Wright the key for us is
27:40to get some really really good interesting items utilizing your fame obviously to try and raise as
27:45much money as possible for the actual charity I'm really I don't do the auction stuff that well
27:50because like you know it's quite it's a personal thing you give your stuff for auction and then
27:54you know it's kind of like your ego gets because you might not go for like the money you wanted to
27:58go and then you feel that's why I normally but Ben's not giving up what is it you most love I play golf
28:05okay how many sets of clubs you got I don't know maybe five six it could we have one of your sets
28:10of clubs Ben thinks Ian Wright's England golf bag is just what's needed right I mean that would be
28:15fantastic I can't give away my England 98 golf bag yeah man you can do that white white how can you
28:21just sit there and just say that straight off the back the only thing I could say is knowing what it's
28:29going to contribute in terms of for the people who are going to go to Hackney afterwards the aim is to
28:33raise as much money as possible so we need something from you Ian that is as lucrative
28:37as possible yes for the competition but in addition that for Hackney Empire because we don't get no
28:42money out of it we're doing this all for free we're not we're running around like headless chicken for
28:45a competition for a competition so you're not really you're so really saying you don't care
28:48about the charity no no no no I didn't say that no no it's just the way you said you came over you
28:52said you're running around like a headless chicken to that previous task what I'm thinking is are you just
28:57doing this just to get my stuff for some competition or genuinely to raise the money because like
29:02you know because it's personal stuff man it's personal stuff so you gotta please please please
29:07I feel absolutely passionate I have to say simply about what they're trying to do as a theatre I
29:12thought it was going to be a nice conversation we'd have a discussion and then we'd see what he'd be
29:16willing to give to a degree I overplayed the pitch by mentioning competition and that struck a very
29:21negative chord with Ian this is to do with expanding horizons for children for adults for
29:26underprivileged people for you know for a whole community and to give back a bit to that community
29:31right so you know that so now if you said that at the top you know I mean one's probably been
29:35finished by now because now I know that there's someone here who's actually passionate about the
29:40fact that they want something for for that reason otherwise you know I mean what we're going to sit
29:44there for another couple of hours Tim Tim and Smooth Ben you know I mean Miriam's pitch rescues the
29:50situation there's an England 98 golf bag with Ian Wright's name on bag can you sign it for us well I will sign it for
29:57you honestly but the team's confidence has been shaken we were losing it big style I don't even know who
30:04Ian Wright is so I thought I'll just keep my gob shut and let these two do the talking it knocked me I'm
30:08not gonna lie it knocked me it knocked me I was knocked yeah move on mate get yourself back out I will I will
30:14you did good in there boy you did really good you did good you started it off really well and like
30:22what you said I think really engaged him and you had some brilliant ideas what about me
30:28really good nobody hugs me no poor girl nobody hugs me it's just not right don't let it get to you
30:38you did a really good job seriously you did a really good job
30:45with their negotiations complete and the auction looming the teams head back to Hackney
30:58the evening will be hosted by Griff Rhys-Jones who's presided over hundreds of charity auctions
31:04so he can give the teams an idea of how well they've negotiated so this is all your list okay yeah
31:10doing McGavin's very very that's great yes the 50 VIP tickets yes yes that's extraordinary yeah
31:16that's a real firm's actually give them your idea we are thinking corporate doom because there's a lot
31:20of businessmen going to be here he could take a whole department yeah like a Christmas that's true
31:24but it's open-ended there's no sort of time frame that it has to be all right okay good luck
31:29good meeting you thank you very much indeed if I bugger you guys you're not allowed to kill me
31:35hello hello team b hi hello come on in James max hello nice to meet you nice to meet you Sebastian
31:41Sebastian hello come and gather around excellent I've been as you know through team a and I won't
31:46go through all the boring bit of explaining why I'm going to sit and you're going to sit
31:51now behind the scenes trip with Eamon Holmes that's you isn't it yes and I'm just a little bit
31:56worried about people thinking um gosh does that mean I have to be there from six in the morning
32:00as Eamon himself is yes until they finish it just after nine well it is it is basically that you
32:06arrive if they want to go and I'm sure if they wanted to arrive a little later they could do now
32:10the key point because it is an open invitation when you ring them up they'll tell you roughly
32:14what celebrities they expect to be there that day so they could be a bit short notice wouldn't it
32:17they said that they have booking in in about a month in advance so they know roughly who's coming
32:21good all right they've never asked me except true value I don't know why they do that if anyone can
32:29sell it he can so I think we've given him some really good stuff to to have a go at and I don't
32:35I mean I'm presuming the team agree I think we've got some cool stuff yeah and it's down to the night
32:51so
32:55minutes before the curtain rises the two teams arrive
33:05james's team take their seats but bends work the audience to drum up interest in what they've got
33:10to offer when we started off this about eight years ago thousands of people stepped forward to help us
33:20and about 14 actually did in the end which is which is fantastic no no and in the end somebody came
33:27forward as sort of like a surprise father christmas for me and i want to say that the boy i love
33:33is actually sitting down in the stalls down here and that's suan and sugar who put forward
33:46lot one generously donated by michael winner
33:51the dinner for four people at michael winner's table in the ivy restaurant
34:00i happen to know there is a 19 year waiting list for a table at the ivy
34:11that's what they told me anyway
34:19that's one thousand four hundred going once
34:23they've got one six
34:24look look look look
34:27bidding's brisk and soon reaches two thousand quid
34:31two two down here it's with you two four
34:37is that 2500 sir you're winning it's 2500 up there
34:412500 sir 2006 any advance on 2600 going once going twice that's sold 2600
34:56a good start for ben's team now it's time for the items donated by paul mckenna from james's team
35:02but it is a real what he's offered ladies and gentlemen is a fantastic opportunity a one-to-one
35:08session you may have a phobia about something you may want to give up smoking you may feel you're a
35:14little overweight mel
35:20go on now
35:22and also we hope hugely rich as well as the private session he's offering paul mckenna's quick smoking
35:28dvd now so you'll have studied that and also easy weight loss for afterwards but he's also got this
35:35book here which is um change your life in seven days fantastic so you'll be able to take that away
35:41that's a hell of a lot in one lot well who's going to start me off at 300
35:45for this the audience seems confused as to what exactly is on offer
35:52i wish he was here now to hypnotize a few more people into bidding we've got one two at the top
36:06there then advance on one two going once going twice one two at the front of the circle there thank you very
36:13very much
36:27the chicago tickets that ben negotiated go well making three thousand pounds but will james's mel smith
36:34tickets match them this is four tickets for that premiere for the first night what am i big for
36:40that what am i going to give me 200 quid to start me off
36:47with no takers whatsoever griff steps in himself
36:51finally much to the relief of james's team somebody else joins in
37:08this is my opportunity to say that dermot has been extraordinary james
37:38the bidding passes four thousand in seconds
38:02oh my god where is that four seven five any advance on five going once going twice
38:19it's a lot to beat but james retains high hopes for the eamon homes experience
38:25this is your opportunity to sit on television and watch people eat breakfast
38:28so who's going to bid for this 500 quid to go to the eamon homes 500 quid any advance on 500 600 down here
38:38700
38:41800
38:45900
38:50we're a thousand down here a thousand for the breakfast tv opportunity
38:58with the auction over sir alan calls the teams together for the result well we've done very well
39:05as a group the forte team came in with about 10 000 pounds the impact team came in with 18 000
39:13james first time loser but i don't want to put a dampener on the evening because it was all for a
39:20very very very good cause indeed even though it's been a very very good task we're going to have to
39:26sit down and discuss what went wrong and eventually one of you will get fired
39:31the winners stay on to celebrate with griff the losers leave immediately to hold a post-mortem
39:46on their defeat all i'm saying is you're not james saying you're not what i'm saying is that if you
39:53swap the two celebrities are our weakest and their strongest eamon holmes yes and um dermot gavin yes
40:03then the difference between the teams is actually really narrow that's all i'm saying yes but the
40:07assumption is that we're negotiating a motorbike out of them as well well who knows for paul victory
40:13is sweet but doubly so having beaten arch rival siren miriam okay completely misunderstand victory
40:22if it was 20 quid if it was 20 quid between us then that would be different but we killed them
40:29but paul we crushed them we utterly demolished the other side it was utterly it was an obliteration
40:38we killed them and we creamed them and we deserve to win we negotiated hard for all of our products
40:44and we won hard i'll have to think very carefully about you know what sir alan says when we get into
40:49the boardroom and dependent upon that i guess that will determine which of you poor bastards has to come
40:59with me it's not going to be nice and i apologize and it's nothing to apologize for who wants to come
41:08with me not me you don't want to come with me no i don't you sure honestly i can't i just can't go
41:18into that boardroom again but what if i do then what happens if i do i'll fight my corner i've got no
41:23worries with that okay i'll bet that in mind having given the result sir alan calls the losing team to
41:38to meet him in the boardroom good morning good morning sir it was a very good night the other
41:56night shame there's got to be a loser whatever you managed to raise went towards a good course
42:02mm-hmm james uh you were the team leader yes on this occasion for you to be on a losing side
42:09correct the other team came up with a substantial amount more when their items got auctioned so yes
42:16you know i'm gonna have to get the sentiment out of the way here and we're gonna have to get back to
42:20what went wrong in my opinion okay right obviously i've thought about it a lot since since the evening
42:27trying to work out where we made either wrong choices or could have done things better that perhaps
42:31we were a little bit naive in some of the choices that we made on some of the celebrities you made
42:36a poor choice none of us knew who dermot gavin was and maybe that's because we're all out working and
42:43therefore you know didn't necessarily see his tv programs or watch that kind of thing um and it's
42:48a shame that we didn't know who he was because i think had we done so he would have been higher up on
42:52our list you're not suggesting that the other team are lazy layabouts watching tv all day long
42:57i don't think i'd suggest that because i think they you know they pulled it off and they did a
43:03very good job so um i'm certainly not going to criticize them anything else any other reason
43:07at the time i think that we got as much as we possibly could out of the celebrities i don't
43:12know whether they were prepared to offer more but the approach that i felt that we should take and i
43:18think we all did was that you can push people so far but you know they're they're important people and
43:22we didn't want to come across um over pushy about it yeah i mean i did make the point when i introduced
43:28this task to you that these people are pestered every day of their life exactly and what i was
43:34trying to see from you lot was how you could deal with it and persistence was needed i think we were
43:41persistent but i think we were also respectful of the fact that there were one or two who you could see
43:46that the shutters were coming down and i think all of them i would hope would say that we conducted
43:51ourselves professionally we did push them we did ask them a lot of questions we did come up with
43:55different ideas and proposals and quite frankly i think you know i was very satisfied yeah i mean my
44:01call on this from the outside is you just simply didn't ask enough you didn't push for a bigger item
44:08i think we did push hard and i think we did um we did get a lot out of them can i just mention for
44:14example the mel smith one tickets for his yes his play that's going to come out two and then it was four
44:20nobody said what about eight tickets what about ten tickets what about two boxes this is sebastian
44:25wasn't it that was sebastian if it wasn't for griff reese jones i don't think you'd have got anything
44:30that that night he bought it himself did you know that but it did get bit up to two thousand pounds
44:35before griff went for the two thousand ah and they said that there's something that goes on in auctions
44:39which is called bouncing it off the wall you know what that expression i disagree because i was up in the
44:43arc of circle and i actually saw the lady bid do you know who she was his wife his wife probably yeah yeah
44:49that was mel smith's wife but i think he bounced it off the wall i think he didn't want to see his
44:54long-term power go for a hundred quid or something like that so you were a bit lucky in
44:59how many seats was it four four it was four oh four is hopeless although i do have to agree we should
45:05have pushed for more than just four tickets it's an interesting contrast with the chicago people
45:09who offered 50 tickets and our people said no i'm sorry we really had our mind on 100
45:15and they were dissuaded sebastian i mean i've got the feeling you kind of spend too much time on the
45:21sidelines and not getting in there uh you seem to just speak to the person and took what they gave
45:27you as opposed to push him for more so i actually disagree with that point um i find i learn a lot
45:32more by listening than i do by talking yeah that's all very well you know remaining silent and learning
45:38more than talking but there could come a time when you have to kind of come in for the kill raj you saw paul
45:43mckenna right and i think one of the errors that you made a very very big error that you made was
45:50that time you walked out of there you came out with everything but his kitchen sink little bits and
45:55pieces because i gotta tell you i sat in the audience and it kind of went right over my head
45:59i know what the hell he was talking i saw books dvds videos i didn't catch it i totally agree we totally
46:06agree but i mean why didn't you get rid of some of this rubbish i didn't personally ask for the additional
46:11kind of the clutter which you know it did clutter you know the main kind of session um so i think
46:17that was the first failing i think you know you're definitely first failing which is not your
46:22responsibility you're saying well i'm not pushing the blame onto anybody because obviously that was my
46:26task but um at the end of the day the paul mckenna stuff was really low value items apart from the
46:30session yeah that's what confused the issue waste of time maybe time time waste of time maybe we should
46:37i should have said to griff reese jones um you know forget forget the junk which which you what
46:42you know it was it did detract from the main course okay maybe i should have but i got trapped in the
46:48group mentality that you know let's have something visual you know if that's my fault i heard that you
46:53that you were a bit flustered and and a little bit quiet in fact perhaps a little bit in awe of the
46:58celebrity not at all you don't think so no well i think my style is such that you know i don't get
47:04overexcited but i had i had a specific mental thought that i was process i was going through
47:07i didn't feel flustered that's all raj i've got to tell you if it was explained properly it would
47:14have got a much much more than 1200 pounds much much more three four five thousand pounds maybe from
47:20one of them nutters in the audience there would have would have paid for that because they had
47:24wealthy people sitting down there i absolutely take that on board and you know and and then i
47:28take on board that it's your responsibility i accept responsibility for that i'm not afraid to you know
47:32accept responsibility for because i go back to it again i was i i say again i perhaps you were in
47:37awe with the celebrity a bit flustered a bit quiet i don't get no i don't i am i am naturally quiet but
47:43i have a particular way that i do things and you know i'm not gonna you know jump around just just
47:47for the sake of you know looking enthusiastic sorry you're being very quiet has their own style you're
47:51being very quiet is this a tactic or a strategy or what the more you say the more trouble you get
47:57yourself into so i'm never scared of getting into trouble i've been in trouble all my life but um
48:01i'm just letting the people who want to talk here today talk and when i'm addressed i'll address
48:05i'm addressing you okay um yeah i think we could have been a little bit more aggressive not rude don't
48:12i want to confuse being rude with being aggressive i think aggressive behavior and sticking with your
48:18passion thinking we can get more we can get more but i think as a group i don't think we had that
48:22mentality at all but this team if i can just back it i mean cyrus is a sort of shocking salesperson and
48:30that she's not scared of um going for it i think the other three are sort of tend to rely on charm a
48:35bit and maybe chance not quite enough when it comes to a face i think i think i would have you know from
48:40is it a bit vulgar perhaps to push too hard i think we should i think we should have adopted a bit
48:45more you know more of an aggressive approach james first time on a losing side and perhaps it shows
48:53a weakness that has been uncovered because you've got this charming manner about you this gentlemanly
48:58manner i'm afraid that doesn't get you somewhere sometimes this particular task you needed to be
49:03a little bit more well that's not good enough you know and just not accept what someone's put in
49:09in front of you know you was in front of eamon home yes i'm sure you could have pushed a lot more
49:13out of him the audience didn't think what was being offered was good enough we only got a
49:18thousand quid from what was actually eamon home's offering it was um an experience for six people
49:23to go to the gm tv studio to see how the program's put together surely you must have realized that the
49:29audience at the hackney empire that night was was not going to be in awe of that i mean who wants to
49:35go up 5 30 in the bloody morning stand in the studio and see what's going on these type of people
49:41you were in front of there would have liked to have been sitting with him at a dinner table so
49:44we did try other things have a one-to-one with him on something else yeah they don't want to be down
49:48there we tried that route with him and he wasn't having it well you should have been more persistent
49:52surely he was very very clear with us what we could and couldn't have and i think we got the absolute
49:57maximum would i like to have received more yes the difficulty i think from his perspective because
50:03he's so famous he has a lot of calls on his time and therefore what he was prepared to offer was
50:07yes something he'd like to help but within certain bounds he wasn't going to go you know and and give
50:13too much of his time or anything else did you think sarah that you should have got more from him
50:18i think the amon holmes one we could have pushed further actually and instead of us thinking well
50:22hold on fine you've given us this but we want to take it a bit further and we didn't we actually
50:27thought oh god we've offended him and we just kind of took a step back and i think we we could have
50:31kept going but we weren't persistent enough i think overall we could have got a lot more um probably from
50:35everybody i think we've debated this long and hard now james as team leader you know the rules yes so
50:44will you tell me who you think should stay behind here with you in the boardroom what i'd like to do
50:49is i'd like to ask sebastian and raj to come back with me because i think sarah performed over and above
50:56for our team and it would be unfair for me to ask her to join okay sarah thank you james
51:05good luck right i'd like you three gentlemen to step outside because we're gonna have another
51:13discussion and as you all know one of you is going to get fired and i'll call you back in when i'm
51:20ready okay thank you they wouldn't have got a bike from dear mcgavin the way they went into the other
51:40things they would not have got that bike and i think that's the point apart from sarah the rest are all
51:45pussyfooting around what has raj ever shown us but what has sebastian ever shown you he's articulate
51:52i guess i find i find raj completely inarticulate yes but i think raj has more common sense than
51:58sebastian do you think so he's knocked around a bit more
52:00now francis could you uh send the three gentlemen in please okay
52:30right well gentlemen it's a difficult one for me because to be perfectly blunt about it you're all
52:40about as bad as each other in this task sebastian why shouldn't you go today in terms of where you
52:46should keep me i have a huge huge set of skills very broad range and i think what you have seen on
52:51me so far is only the tip of the iceberg well i haven't said that that's the point as i said to you
52:55earlier on my impression is that you spend too much time on the sidelines it's all very well you coming
53:02back to me saying well that's what i like to do but that's not what i expect someone to do i expect
53:07someone to be an action man raj now why do you want this job i want this job because obviously i i think
53:13you know um i'm quite creative in business and whether that has shown through or not right now you
53:18know it perhaps it hasn't but i've contributed a lot to every single team how did sarah manage to shine
53:23through in james's eyes and possibly in your eyes she shone through somehow i think yeah but so you
53:29know so why don't you shine personality is such that you know she'll she's very not gobby but she's
53:34very sure she'll get in there and she'll she'll say you know what she thinks but why did he pick
53:38her as to let her go i mean because obviously she's she's is well for me you know it's a lot of
53:42it's about perception and for me she's obviously you know um spoke a lot you know expressed a lot of
53:47opinions and perhaps in a certain extent maybe i should have done that you know maybe i should have
53:51but i've been telling you this for the last few weeks and i said that i did take that on board
53:54you know i don't think i was the worst performing individual here i've got a lot more that i feel
54:00i can you know show and i hope to be able to show that i've been waiting i've been waiting i appreciate
54:04that james yes i see you sitting in the boardroom of a merchant bank where you're just one of many
54:10people sitting there talking but as you know there's a closer there somewhere yes there's someone
54:15that says this is all very well all this bullshit and bollocks we've been talking but the man's eyes
54:21are drifting i need to get in there i need to close it i need to finish this thing tell me why i don't
54:26see that in terms of how i operate day to day i have a certain style some people may not like it
54:32personally i think it's very effective i think in this particular task closure i should have been more
54:38aggressive do you think that i'm i'm not going to listen to what you said and not going to learn from
54:42it i absolutely will there's a certain culture that is needed in my organization this is a tough
54:50environment a dog-eat-dog environment okay and you know the closing thing the closing thing
54:57is worrying me it's worrying me a lot because i need closers do you think that i have not
55:01demonstrated that so well that's what i'm saying i don't know sebastian you deliberate maybe waffle
55:08i'm not convinced you're a closer you raj have had a lot of warnings from me about coming forward
55:16come forward do something and you know i don't like wasting my breath to be perfectly honest with you
55:28sebastian you're the one that's worried me most today people tend to take the characteristics of
55:34their products i think i personally have always been a very bang bang get stuff made that's amstrad
55:41that's me good quality products a bit rough and ready i see you more as a cartier and rolls royce man
55:47to be perfectly frank and it's with regret that i'm going to tell you that you're fired
55:54okay gentlemen off you go you no more warnings i promise you you heard what i said
55:59then off you go thank you thank you thank you good luck it's not the best thank you take it
56:17at the end of the day we are looking for someone who's going to come and work for me in my
56:22organization okay and therefore they have a certain kind of sugar culture
56:25smoothie smoothie smoothie nicely nicely that's all right but they've got to be a killer instinct
56:34somewhere yeah and i don't think he's demonstrated that here
56:44i am a bit shocked i wasn't expecting to go quite now because i had proven myself on many of the tasks
56:51i think in my view raj is a great great individual um very personal very friendly very dry sense of
56:56humor um but i think in that boardroom i think it really should have been him to go purely because
57:05on all the tasks that have taken place so far i think he's the one individual in the household who
57:11hasn't shunned on any of them
57:12one job now seven candidates sir alan's search for his apprentice continues
57:23next week the candidates go back to grassroots
57:27their task to turn raw ingredients into wholesome food and sell it at a farmer's market
57:45i've used all the possible phrases i can use to describe how much of a
57:49fuck up this is all turning into you didn't control the costs let me just revive him he was thinking
57:55more like the 32 pound mark if that's at all possible dale and that's where you went wrong
58:00as town meets country who will be the next to go hello sir are you in a hurry would you like to buy
58:07some chutneys you're fired
