00:01This is Project Runway.
00:12My name is Jerrell Scott.
00:13I am from Los Angeles, California, and I'm 28 years old.
00:17I originally started modeling when I was 18,
00:19and I moved to New York, and I couldn't afford the cool clothes.
00:21Had to make the cool clothes and sell.
00:23What I do now is design one-of-a-kind custom pieces
00:26for a very selective group of people,
00:28from celebrities to Saudi royalty.
00:30I know what I'm capable of,
00:32and it's time for me to take it to the next level.
00:34Oh, these other designers, I'm so sorry,
00:36but you're gonna have to go home one by one.
00:40What's your name?
00:41Blaine. Blaine Jarrell.
00:43My name is Blaine Walsh.
00:45I've been a fashion designer for six years.
00:47Eventually, it will pay the bills.
00:50Sup, Paula?
00:51Right now, I work at a coffee shop.
00:53I love urban wear, like street gear,
00:57like that's my passion.
00:59I have a ridiculous obsession with tanning,
01:02so whoever I need to talk to, squeeze that in.
01:06Hey.
01:07Hey, how you doing?
01:08How are you? I'm Blaine.
01:09Joe.
01:10Joe, nice to meet you.
01:11Yeah.
01:12Where are you from?
01:13Seattle.
01:14Okay. What about you?
01:15Detroit.
01:16Detroit?
01:17Yeah.
01:18So it is.
01:19Rockstars come to me for a look.
01:21I build and design custom rock regalia for blondie Sebastian Bach,
01:27hookers, or pimps, or whoever is tough enough to wear it.
01:30Being here is an excellent chance for me to step outside of leather and denim.
01:36This will be my opportunity.
01:39Hi.
01:40I'm Jennifer.
01:41Hi, Jennifer.
01:42I'm Stella.
01:43I'm Jennifer Dietrich, and I'm living in a small town near Florence, Italy.
01:48My style is kind of a surreal style.
01:51I like to call it Holly Golightly goes to Salvador Dali exhibit.
01:56I hope I don't get eliminated right away.
01:58I think that's on everyone's mind.
01:59Hey.
02:00Hello.
02:01I'm Kelly.
02:02Hi, Kelly.
02:03Nice.
02:04Jennifer.
02:05Nice to see you.
02:06What's up?
02:07I'm Stella.
02:08Nice to meet you.
02:09I always say if Vivian Westwood and Betsy Johnson had a baby, that would be me.
02:12I started my own store, Black Market, in Columbus, Ohio.
02:16I just crank stuff out to try and make a living.
02:19And it's difficult, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
02:21Hi.
02:22Hi.
02:23I'm Terry.
02:24Hi, Terry.
02:25What's up, girl?
02:26My name is Jerry Tam.
02:31I'm actually doing very well as a designer with my own company.
02:36Hi, Project Runway.
02:37Welcome to Forum.
02:39I'm on the forefront of being a big name in the industry, but having this platform to show
02:46my designs is a dream come true.
02:53Hey, what's up?
02:54Hey.
02:55How are you doing?
02:56Good.
02:57I'm Suede.
02:58I'm Jerry.
02:59I'm Suede.
03:00I'm 37, and I'm from New York City.
03:01I've designed for polo jeans, Todd Oldham jeans, Jordache.
03:04With each challenge, I'm going to snip out the competition.
03:08I got tired of making millions for the rest of the world and decided Suede needed to make
03:13millions for Suede.
03:14So I'm here to go to that next step, and Suede is going to rock it.
03:18Yeah!
03:20Hey.
03:21I'm Suede.
03:22How are you?
03:23Hey, Keith, buddy.
03:24Nice to meet you, man.
03:25My name is Kato Momolu Briggs.
03:27I'm originally from Liberia, West Africa, and I currently live in Little Rock, Arkansas.
03:32In Little Rock, I've been in every magazine, but I'm actually trying to get into the real
03:37scene, which is in New York.
03:38So I'm going to be the second woman in this one and the first African American.
03:41Hi.
03:42Hello.
03:43My name's Ken Lee.
03:44I'm Kato.
03:45Nice to meet you.
03:46Nice to meet you.
03:47I'm Leanne.
03:48Kato.
03:49Nice to meet you.
03:50I started my clothing line, LeAnimal, a few years ago.
03:54I'm coming from way out of left field in Portland, Oregon.
03:57So I think the other designers are going to underestimate me.
04:01I am the silent fashion assassin.
04:04Hi, roomie.
04:05Hi.
04:06What's your name?
04:07I'm Emily.
04:08Emily Anne.
04:09Hi.
04:10Nice to meet you.
04:11Nice to meet you.
04:12Yay.
04:13Daniel, nice to meet you.
04:14Nice to meet you.
04:15Welcome.
04:16Come on in.
04:17Hey, what's up?
04:18I'm Blaine.
04:19Wesley.
04:20I spent just about a year at Marc Jacobs, and it was an incredible opportunity.
04:28I feel very secure with myself being young and being in this industry, and my clothes are
04:35in this industry.
04:36It's divine.
04:37Very comfortable.
04:38It's like my daughter's bed.
04:39It's on the floor.
04:40You have kids?
04:41Two girls.
04:42Five and nine.
04:43My main motivation is to show my daughters that you can do exactly what you want.
04:47Just be who you are and go for it.
04:51Project runaway.
04:52Welcome to your new home.
04:53Please settle in and meet us on the roof.
04:56It's time to get started.
04:58Love, Heidi, and Tim.
04:59Wow.
05:00Wow.
05:01It's fun.
05:02You all know.
05:03I'm not sure what's going to happen on the rooftop.
05:05Is this going to be our first challenge already?
05:07Dun, dun, dun, dun.
05:08Here they come.
05:09Welcome, everyone.
05:14We're on the rooftop of Atlas, New York, Gotham City's luxury apartment building, and this
05:35will be your new home.
05:37Woo!
05:38Yeah!
05:39And you all know Tim Dunn, chief creative officer of Liz Claiborne, and he will be a mentor
05:46while you're here.
05:47Indeed, I will.
05:48Woo!
05:49Action!
05:51Welcome, everyone.
05:52I want to be the first to say that you may be the most diverse group of designers we've
05:57ever had on Project Runway.
05:58The one thing all 16 of you share is the talent and skills to win this competition.
06:03Yeah!
06:04Woo!
06:05So knock our socks off.
06:08So, Tim, do you think they're ready for the first challenge?
06:11I don't know.
06:12Are you?
06:13Yeah!
06:14Yeah!
06:15Really?
06:16Yeah!
06:17Ha!
06:18Too bad.
06:19Unfortunately, you're going to have to wait until tomorrow morning.
06:23Right now, let's puff some champagne bottles.
06:25Let's do it!
06:26Yes!
06:27Woo!
06:28Woo!
06:29Woo!
06:30Woo!
06:31Woo!
06:32Woo!
06:33Woo!
06:34Woo!
06:35Woo!
06:36Hey, I'm Swade.
06:37Jennifer.
06:38Nice to meet you.
06:39Jerry.
06:40Jerry, I'm Stella.
06:41It's a pleasure to meet you, too.
06:42Nice to meet you.
06:43How does this whole experience feel to you?
06:45Exactly right.
06:46Good!
06:47Currently, I do smoke and mirrors clothing.
06:50We're just a tiny little fledgling company right now.
06:52And I came here to do a job.
06:54And I'm going to do it.
06:55And what is your style?
06:56And what is your style?
06:57My style was like if Aerosmith was to meet Lauren Hill and Michael Jackson, that's what
07:01you would see.
07:02I think the thing that will set me apart from the other designers is the fact that I am really
07:06fast.
07:07And I can make a three-piece suit in like an eight-hour period.
07:11And what is your style?
07:12It's kind of urban, a little bit raw.
07:14But I, you know, I design for you all the time.
07:17And I'm like if I would wear it, then it's acceptable.
07:20But if not, it's garbage.
07:22Good.
07:23I keep that in mind.
07:24I'm a completely self-taught designer.
07:27I have a gift that many aspire to go through school to have.
07:30And I was just born with it.
07:31You go to the sanding bed a lot, don't you?
07:34Look how I'm so happy and so tan.
07:37I know.
07:38Wow.
07:39Your eyes, your blue eyes really stand out with that sand.
07:41My name is Kenley Collins and I'm 25 years old.
07:45My aesthetic is loud because I mix prints, I mix plaids, and I can't wait to show the
07:52world what I can do.
07:53My name is Daniel Feld and I am from Brooklyn, New York.
07:58Here with my little buddies over here.
08:00If I wasn't a fashion designer, I would have been a zoologist.
08:03I draw a lot of inspiration from nature and my looks are always climbers and sexy and really
08:09are always showstoppers.
08:11The Project Runway season five!
08:14Cheers!
08:17Cheers!
08:23Good morning!
08:24How are you?
08:25Good morning!
08:26Good morning!
08:27I need you to rally everybody.
08:28I need you to get dressed, meet me in the lobby, and you'll learn about your first challenge.
08:45All right.
08:46It's barely even flat.
08:47Meet me in the lobby.
08:48Okay.
08:49We're going to learn about today's challenge.
08:50Hi everybody!
08:51Good morning!
08:52Hi!
08:53Surprise!
08:54I was embarrassed to be standing in a towel next to the same gun.
08:55And I didn't brush my teeth, which I regret.
08:56Thank you!
08:57As soon as the door closes, mayhem.
08:58Girls are flying everywhere.
09:02Girls are flying everywhere.
09:12I have no idea where I'm headed.
09:19I'm hanging in a towel next to the same gun.
09:22And I didn't brush my teeth, which I regret.
09:25Thank you!
09:26And as soon as the door closes, mayhem.
09:31I have no idea where we're going.
09:33Maybe to an amusement park, a zoo.
09:36It's so surreal.
09:37I've been watching other designers do it for four seasons
09:40and now I'm walking down the street with Tim
09:42and this is the first challenge and it means everything.
09:46All right, designers, we're gonna line up right over here.
09:53Designers, this is the destination of your first challenge.
09:57Oh my God.
09:58Oh my God.
10:00As you can see, we've come full circle.
10:02Oh, this is great.
10:04I saw the Gristides challenge in season one
10:07and I never really thought about what would I do
10:09if I had to go to the grocery store.
10:11So now that I know I have to do it, yikes.
10:15Our first Project Runway challenge ever was that at Gristides
10:19and I've invited a special guest
10:20to help me fill you in on the details.
10:23Uh-oh.
10:27Uh-oh.
10:30Uh-oh.
10:33How are you, sweetheart?
10:35When I see Austin, I think total glamour.
10:38Out of any Project Runway contestant,
10:40he was by far my favorite.
10:42I want you to welcome season one designer Austin Scarlett,
10:45who will be your guest judge for this challenge.
10:47Well, if you haven't guessed it already,
10:49you will be purchasing items for this wonderful grocery store
10:53to create a design of your choice.
10:55On that very first season, I won this challenge
10:59with a little dress all made of corn husks.
11:01That little dress made a big impact on my life
11:04and helped launch my career.
11:06Innovation was the key to my success,
11:09and so it shall be yours.
11:11This challenge presents a phenomenal creative opportunity
11:14for you.
11:16Austin, do you have the envelopes?
11:17What did I do, Tim?
11:19Here we go.
11:21Good luck.
11:22So you will have a budget of $75 and half an hour
11:26to make your purchases.
11:28When we return to Parsons, you will have
11:30until midnight tonight to complete your look.
11:33All right, designers, your half hour begins now.
11:37Ah!
11:39Here they go.
11:40I chatted.
11:41I didn't care if I got hit by a car.
11:43I was going to be the first one in.
11:49I had my whole look mapped out in my head.
11:51I wanted to go with a April shower,
11:53spring, May flowers look.
11:55So I'm using the shower curtain to make a rain jacket.
11:59OK, perfect.
12:01I go into Gristides with a purpose.
12:04My strategy, mop heads, mop heads, mop heads.
12:08I'm not going to use any live produce.
12:11I'm mad that somebody took my asparagus.
12:14I'm a mommy, so I know a supermarket when I see one.
12:16I have three bell peppers, and then I have all this kale.
12:19I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the kale,
12:21but that's going to actually be my wow factor.
12:26Designers, you've got to go, go, go.
12:29This isn't idle shopping.
12:31Don't worry, Tim.
12:33I'll make you proud.
12:33Trash bags, because there's nothing like a trash bag.
12:41I'm going to make what I do.
12:44I'm going to make a pair of pants and kind of a vest,
12:47mainly out of garbage bags.
12:52I definitely, definitely, definitely did not
12:55want to get any kind of tablecloth or anything
12:58that resembled fabric.
12:58That was too easy.
13:00Kelly, you have five minutes.
13:02OK, I'm ready.
13:08Designers, time is up.
13:10You need to be in line now if you're not all ready.
13:16OK, I'm going to clean it up.
13:18Not me.
13:21Boom, done.
13:23I can't wait to get back to the workroom
13:24and start working on it.
13:25I say bring it on.
13:26I'm ready.
13:29Coming up on Project Runway.
13:31You guys are a bunch of slackers.
13:33Yikes.
13:34Holy cow.
13:35We all walk into the famous Parsons where everything happens, and I can't wait to get started.
13:57All right.
13:58This is a nice fit.
14:04This is a challenge about innovation.
14:06I'm totally nervous to get all these grocery store items on this garment.
14:11Whack-a-doodle.
14:14Designers, welcome to Parsons, the new school for design.
14:18Thanks.
14:19We're thrilled to have you here.
14:20Whoo!
14:21On your table, you will find a card with information about the model we've assigned you.
14:25Remember that you have until midnight tonight to complete this challenge.
14:30And the winner of this challenge will have immunity for the next challenge and cannot be eliminated.
14:36Whoo!
14:37Awesome.
14:38All right.
14:39Make it work.
14:44Tifusili or not Tifusili?
14:46My theme is going to be Italian.
14:48I'm making a tomato, hot plate, spaghetti, fusili dress.
14:53So who's still doing what they were doing from the supermarket?
14:57You are?
14:58Kind of.
14:59I think I got it gone.
15:01Maybe, if it works.
15:03The first thing I started doing was testing the bleach and the dye on the vacuum cleaner
15:09bags.
15:10What I'm making is kind of a garden dress.
15:12It has kind of a gritty print, almost like a marble.
15:15It's going to be a pretty ugly dress for sure.
15:18Pretty ugly in a great way.
15:20All right.
15:21I am making a sweetheart cocktail dress using my plastic cups.
15:31This one melted too much.
15:34I'm ironing it down so the plastic begins to be moldable from the heat.
15:40Then I take the glue gun and begin to layer it on top of the muslin cloth.
15:45What's the glue gun?
15:46Oh no.
15:47It started melting now.
15:49The fun has arrived.
15:51You better work it out.
15:53She's girl-licious.
15:54I'm not quite sure what Blaine's trying to sell with all his licious this, licious that.
16:00I'll let your girl-licious.
16:01But I wish he'd put it back in this case, close it up and take it to the girl next door.
16:13Titillate the judges, girls and boys.
16:15Titillate.
16:16It's a late.
16:17Yeah, I'm just like, Tim, don't come and see what I have so far.
16:21Like, I'm not.
16:22I noticed that a lot of other people have table-cloths.
16:26This makes me a little bit nervous because I wanted to be different.
16:31I am so competitive.
16:32I'm here to win this.
16:34Okay, I'm going to pop this.
16:39That wasn't so bad.
16:43As a designer, I always wanted to be taken serious.
16:45I saw that people were just putting crap on top of crap.
16:47You know, paper bags on top of coffee filters
16:51and balloons or balls and produce.
16:55That's all the stuff I just throw away in the trash.
16:59Oh my god, this is the worst fabric.
17:08One of my fabrics was trash bags
17:11because it could have been like black patent leather pants.
17:14And when I open them up, they're too loud and too thin,
17:19and they even break to the touch.
17:21You stress them?
17:22Yeah, because my fabric is trash.
17:24I don't have product to make my stuff with,
17:28so the aesthetic of the entire idea might turn out garbage.
17:42Hopefully the next challenge isn't that gross.
17:44What if they made us do it again?
17:46Wouldn't that be great?
17:47Wouldn't that be great?
17:48If they're like, you guys did so bad.
17:49For the second challenge designers,
17:50we came back to Christina's and we're going to do it again.
17:54Make it work.
17:55Hey, everybody.
18:06How are you?
18:08Hi, Ben.
18:08Blaine.
18:09Hi, Tim.
18:11I'd like to introduce you to Girllicious.
18:13Girllicious?
18:14Mm-hmm.
18:14All right.
18:16I didn't want to make just another dress.
18:17And you haven't.
18:19And you haven't. I'm not bored.
18:21You know, I wanted to kind of make it a little bit more crazy
18:23and a bit obnoxious for them to be like, okay.
18:27And there would be those who respond well and those who don't.
18:29And that's what happens when you go out on a limb and you take some risks.
18:32I'll let your boy, Tim.
18:33All right. Thank you, Blaine.
18:35Thanks, Tim.
18:37How are you, Daniel?
18:39I'm good. This is the cup dress.
18:41It is indeed a cup dress. Talk to me.
18:44Well, it's been a little bit hard to work with.
18:47I've been having to iron it down.
18:49Really?
18:50Just to mold it. Thank you very much.
18:51It's working. You just have a lot of work to do.
18:53I know.
18:54You have a wow factor going on.
18:55Yes.
18:56All right. Thank you, Daniel.
18:57Thank you, Tim.
18:58Kelly.
18:59Talk to me. What is this?
19:01This is vacuum cleaner bags with bleach and dye.
19:05I thought you bought marbleized paper, honestly.
19:07Thank you. That's very nice.
19:09This is fabulous. This looks unfinished.
19:11Right, right.
19:12Think this through. I have complete confidence in you to do that.
19:15All right. Thank you.
19:16All right. Wow.
19:19Stella, how are you doing?
19:21Tim, I have a dilemma.
19:23I've picked a garbage bag, and look.
19:26Hi.
19:28I really don't have fabric.
19:30Those judges don't want to see a black garbage bag walk down that runway.
19:34I lost a lot of time.
19:37Make it work.
19:38I'm gonna try.
19:39Okay.
19:40All right.
19:41Suede.
19:42So, um, my materials are a picnic cloth, and these are doggy bags.
19:46I see.
19:47I question whether this belt is correct for this dress.
19:51But then I just worry that it's just a tablecloth.
19:54Yeah.
19:55You should worry that it's just a tablecloth.
19:57I'm gonna think.
19:58Okay.
19:59Think, think, think.
20:00Okay, Kato.
20:01Yes.
20:02Talk to me.
20:03Got a tablecloth.
20:04So I decided to play on it with the trimmings and the sleeves.
20:11I see a whole lot of tablecloth.
20:14You need big impact.
20:17I was gonna use this on the neckline like jewels.
20:19I got sherry tomatoes.
20:20All right.
20:21That's where you need to have the giant.
20:23Oh, my God.
20:24I can't believe she did that with those things.
20:26Right now, this is just a paper dress, and we've seen plenty of them.
20:29Okay.
20:30All right.
20:32Jerry, what are you up to?
20:34Good news is it's a shower curtain.
20:37Bad news is it's a tablecloth.
20:40Well, shower curtain, tablecloth.
20:42Same thing.
20:43Put them in the same category.
20:44I wish I was a little bit more innovative with what they had to offer.
20:47You definitely need a wow factor.
20:49Okay.
20:50Go to work.
20:51Go to work, Jerry.
20:52Sounds good.
20:53Keith.
20:54How you doing?
20:55Good.
20:56Well, I know what this is.
20:57I didn't realize how much of this material was in this room.
21:01I just have to say, everybody, I'm seeing a lot of tablecloths around here.
21:05The reason we took you to Gristidi's was to use materials that were untraditional and unexpected.
21:13And a tablecloth, it is a form of fabric.
21:17I just think the judges are going to say, you guys are a bunch of slackers.
21:20Yikes.
21:21You've got to get these things to go beyond what they actually are.
21:26I suggest you keep this from looking so much like a picnic tablecloth.
21:31All right, buddy.
21:32Innovate.
21:33Thanks, man.
21:34I was nervous, to say the least.
21:37I didn't realize that so many people would go after the same thing.
21:40You have until midnight tonight.
21:42Make it work.
21:43I just don't know what to do.
21:47Tough day.
21:49Holy cow.
21:50People are freaking out.
21:52And I'm thinking, okay, focus, Wade.
21:55What is it you're going to do?
21:56He sat there and read everybody in the room.
21:59Yeah.
22:00Oh, my God.
22:01I was scared for everybody.
22:04You've got a head start on the rest of us because you didn't use a tablecloth.
22:08It's a tablecloth.
22:09My heart just sunk into my chest.
22:11The biggest fear is losing.
22:13Losing out on the first round.
22:15I don't even want to think about it.
22:20Coming up on Project Runway.
22:22It is time.
22:23It's not a good feeling.
22:25My veggies.
22:26.
22:31I'm changing it and I'm adding more netting.
22:33But whatever.
22:34I'm adding squares to mine.
22:36Yeah.
22:37So Tim is over the fact that we all use tablecloths.
22:40So now I have to rethink everything.
22:43Millions and millions of squares.
22:47Probably just a horrible idea.
22:50I just wanted to cover up as much of this tablecloth as I could
22:54and make it look like it was made of candy entirely.
22:59Are you on time?
23:00I'm making a hole underneath the piece too.
23:03Going for it.
23:04I was just going to do a raincoat, but then I ended up doing a summer dress just to bring
23:08out some color, some flare, and the wow factor.
23:11I love your little sweater by the way.
23:13Oh, thank you.
23:14When you need.
23:15You run out of something, get a mop.
23:17Holla at your boy.
23:19Holla at your boy.
23:20I'm the first one to finish my garment.
23:22And I feel great.
23:23Like I said I was going to dominate and I am.
23:26I'm eliminated.
23:27Don't say stuff.
23:28I'm eliminated.
23:29I'm not a fool.
23:30I know what I'm talking about.
23:31I really feel like I should, I'm going to make a fool of myself.
23:35You're like one of the 16 people here.
23:37You better start draping trash bags around the body floor and duct tape it.
23:42Just do whatever you got to do and sell it on the runway.
23:45You can do it.
23:46You can do it.
23:47You can do it.
23:48Hey guys, I have to come up with a plan B because I don't know what I'm doing.
23:54I'm going to get sent home.
23:55Don't turn up.
23:56Ugh.
23:57The worst.
23:58I'm very worried.
23:59If I'm the first eliminated designer, I'll be the biggest jackass of the nation.
24:12Oh, Jarrell.
24:17Get your ass up, yo.
24:19You guys ready to meet Nina and Michael?
24:22Michael I can handle.
24:24Uh-oh.
24:25Is it Nina?
24:26Yeah, I just feel, I just don't want to look at me in like actual disgust and like,
24:30are you kidding me?
24:33Are you guys nervous about today?
24:35A little bit because of all the tablecloth conversation.
24:38I'm starting the car.
24:49Just like I left it.
24:50That's all I'm doing, the whole thing and I'm set.
24:52And then I'm going to drape this collar on her and cover her boobs up with it and that's
24:55it.
24:56There you go.
24:57As I started piecing it all together, I started realizing it might actually be an alright dress,
25:03but I'm still very worried I'm going to get eliminated.
25:07Good morning designers.
25:09Hi Tim.
25:10It is a big day.
25:12It is your first runway show.
25:15You will have an hour to send your model to the Theresa May hair salon in the L'Oreal Paris
25:19makeup room borrowed generously from the bluefly.com accessory wall.
25:23I'm going to be sending in your models right now.
25:26Okay?
25:27Yay!
25:28Paulina!
25:29Nice to meet you two.
25:30Yeah, we may win.
25:31Alright, get naked.
25:32Yeah, let's just take a look for a second.
25:33Oh my God, I'm going to have to push these puppies in there.
25:36Yeah.
25:37That's where it's tight.
25:38My garment on Paulina, it's a little snug because she has more curves than I knew about,
25:55so I have to hand stitch the crotch area.
25:57And I'll try my best not to poke.
26:00That's so American Psycho and scary.
26:04Jerry's garment looks like he created something for an axe murderer with the white boots and
26:11the gloves.
26:12I'm not sure how the judges are going to look at that.
26:15Okay, cool.
26:16Do you want to wear these groovy boots?
26:20A little tight and then big.
26:22Like fresh and young and cute.
26:24Like freaking out, like.
26:31Delicious.
26:33It's perfect.
26:34Yeah.
26:35Designers, can I have your attention?
26:38You have five minutes before we have to go down to the runway, okay?
26:43Okay, let's do that.
26:44Okay, let's do that.
26:45All right.
26:46Yeah.
26:47My veggies.
26:48I just kind of pray that the tomatoes would all stay in place, because if it doesn't,
26:50I'm going home.
26:51Designers, models, it is time.
26:52Follow me.
26:53We're going down to the runway.
26:54Wow.
26:55This is the first runway show, and it makes you want to vomit all over the place just anticipating
27:01what's going to happen to you.
27:03Seriously, it's not a good feeling.
27:04Kenley, you ready?
27:05Yeah.
27:06Okay, that's it.
27:07Coming up on Project Runway.
27:08I am not impressed.
27:09Do I think it's pretty?
27:10No.
27:11Hello!
27:12Hey.
27:13Welcome to the runway.
27:14As you know, we're at the first runway show, and it makes you want to vomit all over the
27:16place just anticipating what's going to happen to you.
27:17Seriously.
27:18It's not a good feeling.
27:19Kenley, you ready?
27:20Yeah.
27:21Okay, that's it.
27:22Coming up on Project Runway.
27:24I am not impressed.

28:40runway one of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out
28:47let's start the show
28:52I was happy with making some of the detailing out of the bouncy ball and the
28:57balloons I thought it was forward yet wearable at the same time
29:02I use the lawn chair and paper umbrellas it had great movement to it she looked
29:12amazing I know it's hot
29:16I wish that I hadn't used the tablecloth but I'm really happy that I decided to use the candy and
29:23the cookies she looks delicious my garment looks beautiful that's it that paper tablecloth beyond
29:33what it was I'm happy that the vegetables didn't fall apart I was completely happy with it and it
29:43actually looks pretty well sewn for paper towels all my fears I think just went away
29:49I'm the only designers I've used all plastic cups I look at Nina's face and see that she's cracking up a bit I hope
30:03that's a good thing I was blown away by my crocheted couture mop top I took something that people use
30:12everyday and use it in a completely different way I've used the tablecloth and dog baggies as trim my
30:23dress is really beautiful but I don't know if the judges will be impressed with it I took some ugly
30:33cheap-ass garbage bags and made this dress at least it looks like something that's along the lines of
30:41what I do I use pasta on the skirt and they're really great oven mitt as my bodice I definitely did something
30:55innovative I feel really confident it's made out of dodgeball and lawn chair and I pulled it off I think that
31:10the judges are going to like it I completed a fully lined fully finished raincoat made out of table linens and a shower curtain I'm very happy with my final outfit I really went to town on this project I ended up using the yellow tablecloth yellow cups and fly swatters I think the judges are going to be really impressed because they're gonna have to look twice to figure out what everything is
31:40she looks amazing she looks amazing walking down the runway I use neon jump ropes drawer linings and windshield wipers I'm thinking I'm gonna win this
31:53I made a kind of a gritty print with the bleach and the dye on the vacuum cleaner bags and the whole midriff was gold push pins I was happy with it definitely
32:07I am so excited with how it turned out I added some extra netting to just take it even further away from looking like a tablecloth I feel like I have the sexiest outfit out there
32:20we've scored your designs will the following designers please step forward Daniel Jerry
32:32Kato Stella Kelly Blaine
32:42if I have not called your name congratulations your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge you can leave the runway thank you
32:54the six remaining designers have the highest and the lowest scores one of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out
33:11let's bring out your miles
33:22Daniel tell us a little bit about your design my design is a cocktail dress and it's made from plastic cups
33:29I think it stood out from all the others because it really felt like you took a material that wasn't a fabric substitute and did something just unique with it
33:38I really like the sculptural form I like the fact that you took a chance I like this I think you could have gone further with the silhouette but I think it's a very creative smart use of a material in an unexpected way
33:55thank you very much Jerry in House Wars I picked up a shower curtain with these amazing curtain hooks that I use this fasteners and then I also pulled out strips of gauze and I created a little mini summer dress I mean honestly she turned the corner and I was like she like a bridal nurse just the visual of it is just it's freaky and the dress underneath just looks like a handy wipe gone wrong
34:13who was wearing this and where are they going on night on the town a night out in the town after she left the hospital hospital plumber in terms of shape I don't see any innovation in terms of color I don't see any innovation in terms of color I don't see any
34:20I just felt like you could have stepped it up a bit it doesn't strike me as
34:25Who is wearing this and where are they going?
34:28Out on a night on the town.
34:30A night out in the town.
34:31After she left the hospital.
34:33The club is a big hospital plumber.
34:37In terms of shape, I don't see any innovation.
34:41In terms of color, I don't see it.
34:43I just felt like you could have stepped it up a bit.
34:46It doesn't strike me as being that creative.
34:50Kato, tell us a little bit about your design.
34:56In my design, I used a paper tablecloth.
34:59I did want to do something that was different.
35:01The tomatoes, I cut them open to make it look like it was like different brooches kind of stuck on there.
35:06I just wanted to do something pretty and something that you could actually wear somewhere out one night.
35:12Overall, I thought your design was very chic and you actually used something alive, a fresh grocery product.
35:19Very, very nice job with that.
35:22I do appreciate very much the fact that it looks impeccably done.
35:28It's the right girl in the right dress, style the right way.
35:32She's got a great look.
35:37Stella, tell us about your outfit.
35:39I just unrolled a whole roll of garbage bag and I draped it all around and then I just started sewing it.
35:48That's what I did.
35:49I just sewed the whole thing by hand.
35:50Well, there's no transformation.
35:51I mean, she turned the corner and she's in garbage bags.
35:54The dress is just, it's a yawn.
35:56I would have liked to have seen maybe you tried the stitching with an actual material.
36:00Maybe you could have like slashed the plastic itself and stitched it that way or done something a little more interesting than the thread.
36:07I have to say, I am not impressed.
36:11To me it looks like I just did something because I had to do something.
36:17Kelly Kelly, tell us about your design.
36:19I made it out of vacuum cleaner bags that I bleached and dyed.
36:24I burnt coffee filters for the bust part and in the back I made hook and eyes for a closure out of the spiral of a notebook.
36:34I like the way you think.
36:36It shows me that you are resourceful.
36:38I think it's great.
36:39When you look in closely you see all the detail and all the different techniques that went into making this one dress.
36:46You pushed the envelope and made something that I think that girls are going to want to wear.
36:51Thank you very much.
36:53And last but not least, Blaine.
36:56What is this?
36:57This is girlicious.
36:59Everything is made out of cupboard, linings, and jump rope.
37:04The last thing I wanted to do is send down something that would bore you.
37:07Oh, it's definitely not boring.
37:09It's a little bit bunnyish.
37:11Playboy bunny gone grunge.
37:13My first impression was the diaper thing was a bit jarring.
37:17I just felt it made it look a little cheap.
37:19When she first turned the corner I was like, oh my god, we're having the wrestling challenge.
37:23Oh no.
37:24I mean, it's provocative.
37:26Do I think it's pretty?
37:27No.
37:28Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
37:31We're going to have a little chat and then I'm going to call you back.
37:34You can leave the runway.
37:43So, which ones did you love?
37:49Kelly's design.
37:51The dyeing was gorgeous.
37:53Not only was it creative, it was actually pretty.
37:56She took something and she added an artistic technique.
37:59It put so much work and thought into every little detail.
38:02She found a possibility in everything.
38:06Danielle did the dress with the cups.
38:09I mean, just the material you would never ever think of that would create a dress.
38:14And it was sexy.
38:16Why out of anything in the store?
38:17Why the cups?
38:18Let me run to those plastic cups.
38:20He had that bravado and that confidence.
38:22I think that that is something that you cannot learn.
38:25You either have it or you don't.
38:27Let's go to Kato.
38:30I give her low marks for resorting to the tablecloth.
38:35But I give her high marks for the overall visual impact of how her girl looked.
38:41She was the one designer who chose some fresh produce out of them all.
38:47She has good taste.
38:48Yeah.
38:49I could see that.
38:52Let's move on to the ones that we didn't like.
38:55Stella.
38:56She's coming from this sort of punky point of view.
38:59And that was there.
39:00It was just maybe not the best luck on that challenge.
39:03I mean, that was just butt ugly.
39:04That was horrible.
39:05Doesn't make me curious.
39:06No.
39:10Jerry.
39:11I saw something that looked strange.
39:15Then it had this weird Batman thing going on.
39:17My son would have loved it, you know, running around the house.
39:20Woo!
39:21It looked like something you'd wear if you were going to be in a slasher movie costume.
39:25That's what you would wear if you were killing someone.
39:27Killing someone.
39:28Ah!
39:31Let's talk about Blaine for a second.
39:33Let's be honest.
39:34It did look like she had an old diaper pushed in between her legs.
39:38I understand he wants to be edgy, but was it really executed?
39:42When it first came out, I wrote hideous on my card.
39:45So, we've made our decision?
39:46I think we have.
39:47Let's bring them back out.
39:48The six of you represent the best, and the worst.
39:49One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
39:55One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
40:02Kato, you're in.
40:04You can leave the runway.
40:12And now for the winner.
40:14one of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out
40:22Kato you're in you can leave the runway thank you
40:28and now for the winner congratulations Kelly
