00:00Let's go racing from Washougal, Hunter Lawrence leaps out of the blocks, and it's 1-2, Lawrence is out front again with Prado and Sextla Nair.
00:17Actually, a good recovery right behind Chase Exxon, man, he was so late off the gate, but able to go, and you talk about the Honda boys talking about they need to get a start.
00:26Man, that was a massive start by Hunter Lawrence out front where he loves to be at with his brother in tow.
00:32Sexton able to clear Prado. That was key. Trying to get behind Lawrence, and he did it.
00:38Yeah, now the track's going to be different. Got to be careful with these opening laps, especially here at Washougal.
00:43The shadows have changed with the sun being there, and we know they put some water down.
00:47See how quickly he can make some mistakes.
00:49Sexton's really aggressive early here, James.
00:51Yeah, I like it. Just confidence. As you can see, Jet Lawrence spinning up.
00:55But Chase knows he just wants to be in front.
00:58You've got to believe that first motors game. He's got a lot of confidence that he can run with him.
01:02Not only that, he can beat him. He's going to have his hands full because they're starting in front of him.
01:06Justin Barsha aggressive. He gets around Prado for fourth.
01:10Sexton goes to work on the Lawrences.
01:14Did a little bit of work on their racetrack.
01:17See some more lines. Chase is going to try to run this outside until they did some work there.
01:20It's the area where Sexton was great in the first mode. He's fastest in the sector. Almost made the move.
01:28Yeah, I mean, that's when you talk about confidence. Chase is being quick in the early part of the races.
01:33And I don't think he's going to have to worry about what happened last weekend.
01:37His track is a lot different. He's going to tame these guys.
01:39So you've just got to stay there and try not to make some mistakes.
01:45Eli Tomac now to fourth. He has made the move.
01:48Yeah, I didn't even see Eli in the beginning part.
01:51So Eli says, I want to get up in this action as well. I feel like I can get him.
01:56And a great setup, as Will said, has not been a race where Hunter Lawrence has had the best record for him.
02:04And now he's the one controlling the pace out front. He was 5-4 here last season.
02:10That was his worst results in his rookie year last year.
02:15Yeah, some of his parts at his racetrack, it's so slippery.
02:17I mean, they have to do that to keep this dust down as Chase takes a look behind him.
02:21He probably heard the Yamaha wide open.
02:23You know who it is. There's no sense of looking back.
02:26You see ET3 there.
02:29Completely different rider, Jason, compared to Eli, that is, after what we saw last weekend.
02:35Bad starts and that first moto really hurt his confidence, but Eli came here to play.
02:42This is back to what we expected at the beginning of the season.
02:45We knew these four could really slug it out.
02:47JT.
02:48Just watching this battle set up behind both Hunter and Jett.
02:52If Jett wants to win this race, he's not going to be able to wait on Hunter.
02:55Now, credit to Hunter. He really doesn't have any pressure on him yet,
02:58but you can see how quickly Eli Tomek closed up to the back of Sexton,
03:02which is going to push Sexton forward to Jett,
03:04which Jett is going to, in turn, have to respond and go after Hunter.
03:07Tomek is the one pushing the pressure right now, though.
03:10And also, if Jett wins the moto, he needs someone to beat Sexton and push Sexton to third.
03:14Hunter and Tomek, there are so many factors out here.
03:18Don't even count Tomek out of winning the overall. He's catching them.
03:22Yeah, and you saw that smile with Eli Tomek on the podium.
03:25I think he was starting to believe again, and again, we know how good he is here.
03:29Eli knows how good he is.
03:30So, talking about Chase Sexton, can he close the door?
03:34Can Eli open it and get him a win?
03:37I believe because of Eli being behind him, he's going to push Chase.
03:40Let's see if he does the same thing.
03:41He's going to run down or what Jett?
03:43Oh, the nice line by Jett. He goes outside, makes Chase think he's going to go there,
03:47switch it back.
03:48Eli Tomek has had 15 straight motos out on Shugal, finishing first or second.
03:56He's fourth right now, watching this battle.
03:59Lawrence and Sexton.
04:00Yeah, there are certain parts of the track, and it looks like Chase has got the move.
04:08Can he hold it?
04:09Jett's going to run it around the outside.
04:11Wheel to wheel.
04:12Oh, Sexton almost went down.
04:14Yeah, man.
04:15He had that pass, and you saw how aggressive Jett was getting to the outside.
04:19He wanted to block that number one, and he did a good job of doing it.
04:22I think Jett is trying to let this race kind of calm down.
04:26It might not be a bad thing to let your brother go away because you need somebody to finish
04:29in between you and Chase Sexton, but Chase came here.
04:33He wants to be in front of that 18.
04:35And is the confidence growing for the one with every lap?
04:38Oh, absolutely.
04:38Yeah.
04:39It is.
04:39Now you can see how quickly they pick up on the 96.
04:42Wow.
04:44Oh, Jett's throwing the hammer down now.
04:46So at every couple of corners, it changes.
04:49It was Hunter building a lead.
04:50It was Tomac on the charge.
04:52Now Jett fending off Sexton and going after Hunter.
04:56Yeah, now Chase got his hands full with Eli Tomac, so critical point in the race and all
05:00these guys, and Eli Tomac running in fourth.
05:03What's your fastest rider of this race?
05:05And Jett, oh, I thought he had the move right there.
05:08He even revved it to let Hunter know he was there.
05:11Now be curious to see how much Hunter fights him.
05:13I mean, I know they're going, but he knows Jett is a little bit faster, and he knows he
05:17doesn't want to hold him up, especially with the two guys behind him.
05:20So Hunter wants to beat Jett, but he knows he wants to have a Lawrence win.
05:26If he's holding up his brother or letting his brother go by to help that, he probably
05:29will.
05:29Oh, spectacular set up here.
05:35Sexton and Tomac bringing their best today.
05:37Challenging the Lawrences who have been so dominant the last four weeks, going one, two.
05:42It ends like this.
05:46Sexton would still have the overall, but that's almost warm-up math.
05:50You know it's going to change at some point, and how close these riders are.
05:55Yeah, here we go.
05:55Let's see if Jett goes up the inside of his brother.
05:58He's got the line, James.
06:00Hunter fights back.
06:02Holds him off.
06:04Jett again.
06:05And there he goes.
06:08Yeah, I mean, Hunter was racing, but you could tell he didn't really fight that too much.
06:13He could have closed that door.
06:14You know, for him, maybe the pace is just a little too hard right now.
06:18Better just follow some lines and stay in front of the number one.
06:22But J. Sexton, you can see that urgency.
06:24Let's see what he does.
06:25Oh, Sexton just powers through, and Hunter almost passed his jetpack.
06:30Unbelievable racing.
06:31Sexton looks to make a move for second.
06:33Yeah, Chase wants to get around.
06:35He's unbelievable.
06:37Racing.
06:40I can't believe the last time I saw this.
06:42We're talking three, four wide in these corners.
06:47Sexton almost over, hauls Hunter, and Hunter's not letting Jett go.
06:52There you go.
06:53Nice move by Chase.
06:56That would give Chase the overall.
07:01I don't know if he's done.
07:02Hunter's going to fight back.
07:04Tries to get back to the inside.
07:07Wheel to wheel.
07:08Important for Chase to stay in front of the 96.
07:10You don't want anything slowing down.
07:12But Hunter got a good run on the inside.
07:14Chase just slowly started making his way up.
07:16Hunter did it.
07:18Pax is Sexton back.
07:20Chase, that might be costly for you.
07:22You know how aggressive Hunter was trying to stay in front.
07:25Now that's letting his brother get away.
07:27So Chase has got to go to work.
07:29He's got to make his pass quick.
07:31And Tomac's still there as well.
07:39Back in view of the fans.
07:41Sexton in the split line.
07:46Is it enough?
07:47No.
07:47JT.
07:48Well, all of that.
07:50All of that chaos that went on.
07:51The fury that went on was caused by Sexton coming up.
07:55Tomac pushed to Sexton.
07:56Sexton pushed up.
07:57Now we have the benefit of a couple dozen cameras around.
08:00So we can see Tomac coming.
08:01We can see Sexton.
08:02Hunter had no idea.
08:03Jett was trying to let the race unfold, as Jane mentioned.
08:06As soon as the pressure got there, you saw Jett respond.
08:09He put in the best two laps that we've seen all day long from him.
08:12And then Hunter responded in kind, too.
08:14All of that was catalyzed, though, from the pressure from behind.
08:18They didn't see it coming.
08:19And they had to respond, which they have.
08:23Thanks, JT.
08:24Sexton, again, he had that overall win in his grasp just for a moment.
08:28Hunter fought back.
08:29Our outside line for the one.
08:31And he makes the pass.
08:32Get out of my way, son.
08:33I'm going around, man.
08:35Talk about confidence.
08:37The number one is not wanting to let that 18.
08:40And that was a power move by him.
08:42You don't see a lot of passes in that section.
08:44That's normally a harps.
08:46What?
08:47There is a red flag.
08:49It looks like, yeah, I thought I saw them slow the pace.
08:53There is a rider down on the track, presumably.
08:58And, by the way, I'm not sure how deep we are into the clock.
09:01There is a staggered restart rule in Pro Motocross for the first time this year.
09:06They would take off from the gates, but they would take place and be released in the order they were.
09:10I don't know how deep, if we were deep enough into the race for that to be the restart rule at this point, about nine minutes in.
09:18Please put these boys back in a staggered position.
09:21I want this race to continue.
09:23We have exactly what we want.
09:25And, hopefully, whoever is down, bummer to see that, but Washougal bringing the heat.
09:33Woo!
09:34Some of the best races we've seen in a long time.
09:36And Chase Sexton making passes, as you said, in areas where you do not see passes.
09:40Yeah, I don't think I've seen anybody make a pass there without somebody else making a mistake.
09:44There it is.
09:48It will be a staggered start.
09:50This is the first ever staggered restart in a Pro Motocross race.
09:53Now, that format that you see is how they release the riders in the first practice every morning.
10:00So, they've been preparing for this all summer long.
10:03They'll release the riders in the order in which they came through the line.
10:08It might resort back to the previous lap.
10:10We'll talk to Mike Pelletier from the ABA to get the scoop when we return to Washougal.
10:40Thank you.

15:44Não já ouviu Sexton architecture.
15:45Vim para mais.
15:46Eu치 euлав насa.
15:59Você achou que ele tinha how 유튜,
16:01agree.
16:02Masikutudo Ballista é isso para isso,
16:04em number 300 lutas do Inacimento.
16:06A rider down had to red flag it.
16:09And they have reverted back to the previous lap.
16:12That red flag had come out during that lap.
16:16So it puts Hunter back into second.
16:20And again, they will be released in order.
16:24John Starling for the AMA explaining this to the riders.
16:26Again, this is how they start every morning.
16:30I like what Jed and Hunter is doing.
16:34You notice they put their start blocks back down.
16:37Again, Jed's going to hole shot this one for sure.
16:40But I think they're just keeping everything in the routine.
16:42And even with us, you can see now KTM is putting theirs down.
16:46Does nothing for these guys.
16:47They're going to roll off the gate.
16:48But I think it's just keeping them in their routine, just like another moto,
16:52even though it's a red start, just keeping these guys in the zone.
16:55I love it.
16:57Another positive about this red start, if you made some bike changes in between,
17:02maybe it doesn't work.
17:04Maybe Eli Tomac is like, oh, I didn't like the bike change.
17:06You can't make that change.
17:10JT, let us see how this works.
17:13Hey, guys, I'm down on the starting line.
17:14Just to listen to AMA official John Starling explain this to the riders.
17:17It's a brand new procedure.
17:18So they're allowed to use their starting blocks just as they would on a normal start.
17:22Now, John Starling is going to walk by and allow them to go each and every time,
17:26each rider.
17:26He's going to walk down.
17:27They're going to go, go, go.
17:28And he tells them, as soon as they take off, you're free to race.
17:32If you can pass somebody in the first corner, by all means.
17:34So it's just like a start.
17:35But it's going to be one by one all the way down the starting line.
17:38So it's a really interesting thing.
17:40There's a lot of questions from the riders right now.
17:42A brand new dynamic.
17:43So watch for that.
17:44There probably will be some confusion just because it's the first time they have never practiced this.
17:47Yes, in Supercross, there is a white line where you cannot pass until you reach that.
17:52That will not be the case here.
17:54It's funny.
17:54I was actually down for the first qualifying session talking to riders last week at Millville.
17:59I was talking to Aaron Plessinger, a couple others, and I'm like,
18:01do you know that this is the restart procedure?
18:04And most of them said, I didn't know that.
18:06And I'm like, that's why they do this every morning at 8 a.m.
18:09So you can see how it works, and even the officials can see how it works.
18:13Yeah, no, that's really, you know, preparing without really letting everybody know.
18:18Nobody wants to get in this situation because that means somebody went down.
18:22But, you know, if I'm the riders, I'm going to tell John, you better hurry up, point me out,
18:27because they can't go until they get bombed.
18:29So he better watch out.
18:31Somebody might be trying to dump the throttle a little bit.
18:33Might be carrying John down the straightaway.
18:36Yes, because even though they do it in the morning, it's going to be a little more intense.
18:40It's going to be a little bit more intense.
18:41And again, it's going to be a second before he gets down.
18:45So, woo!
19:11Thank you.
19:12Thank you.
19:41. . .
20:11. . .
20:41. . .
21:11. . .
21:13Carlos Rivera here, crew chief for Red Bull KTM, Chase Sexton is your rider here.
21:18So much involved here, Carlos, for yourselves, looking after the bikes, looking after the riders.
21:23Talk to me about what you can do for both of them.
21:25So, basically, we have to keep the bike cool after that.
21:29It's a completely stop.
21:30The bike is hot, especially the riders.
21:33We want to try to keep them calm.
21:34Heart rate's up.
21:35And they kind of have to reset and start over again.
21:39So, to try to bring them back to that is a little bit hard.
21:43But I think Chase is actually really good.
21:45He's stay calm.
21:46And we try to keep the bike cool right now.
21:49Nerves-wise, it's high anyway for a second moto.
21:52After the racing that they just did, even tougher.
21:55So, how hard is it for them to mentally reset?
21:58Definitely very hard because, you know, they're in the racing mode.
22:03They're already heart rate's up.
22:04They're pushing.
22:04They're racing.
22:05All of a sudden, you come to a stop.
22:06And you've got to reset and start over.
22:08So, it's not easy.
22:10But that's what they do.
22:11It's what they do and what they do well.
22:13Carlos, thanks for your time.
22:14We appreciate it.
22:14Thank you.
22:18This is a feel akin to timeout in a close game, maybe fourth quarter.
22:23Because at the moment, right now, Jet Lawrence does have the overall.
22:28He's three and one.
22:31Sexton needs to make a move.
22:32He needs to get the second, even if Jet wins the moto.
22:34And how about the fact that Hunter Lawrence is the man that he's going to have to pass?
22:38Because they're going to start ahead of him with this restart.
22:41And then Eli Tomac's lurking.
22:43So much can happen here.
22:45And we rarely have the chance to think about it.
22:49And they rarely have the chance to think about it when the race is actually stopped.
22:53Yeah.
22:54Yeah, 100%.
22:55And, yeah, hopefully they didn't put any water down the tracks exactly.
22:58The same as when these guys left, because that would be the worst thing.
23:01Throw some water.
23:03Boy, Chris Budd is going to show you what these guys are going at.
23:09Get here.
23:10And we saw that the scoop tire, the more sand tire on the back of Tomac's bike.
23:14How do you think that's going to work compared to everybody else what you're seeing here?
23:18Yeah, that's going to be a bold move for Eli.
23:20I was really surprised that he ran with the scoop tire.
23:22And the trouble is going to be he can run with it if he's out front running his own line.
23:28But the hard part for him is going to be able to make those passes,
23:31being able to cut down and get across that hard spot, that hard base.
23:35He's not going to have the grip like these other guys.
23:37So, really surprised by Eli.
23:40But, again, he knows what he wants.
23:43You can see these shadows of these guys dropping down what they've got to deal with.
23:49And they do look like they put some water down.
23:52Oh, okay.
23:52The rider that was down is Anton Nordstrom on the 667.
24:00He's being attended to by the Alpine Stars medic team.
24:04Rider on Haskobarda.
24:06And you can see the clock there.
24:0721 minutes and 22 seconds will remain in this race.
24:10Now, I was just looking at it.
24:11I don't know if it's my eyes or maybe the camera is shot.
24:14I'm really surprised if they did put water down.
24:17Really surprised that they did that.
24:19But you think he saw something?
24:23Yeah, it just looks like it.
24:25But maybe, again, maybe it's just my eyes.
24:27Getting old now.
24:29Eyes on what they used to be.
24:32I'm not going to say speak for yourself.
24:34The same way.
24:35There's John Starling.
24:36He will be the one that releases the rotters, starting with the inside gate.
24:39And a lot of this was worn out.
24:41You remember the Butts Creek race two years ago where Hayden Deegan had a huge lead.
24:46Race this red flag restarted with the traditional gate drop.
24:49And Deegan went down on the first turn.
24:51It ended up being a bad day for Hayden.
24:52A lot of people started saying, well, why don't they have a staggered restart like Supercross?
24:56So it took them a while to figure out, again, with 40 bikes, nearly twice as many as there are in Supercross.
25:02How could you do it?
25:03And this is what they've come up with.
25:05This is new for 2025.
25:06And it helps preserve this incredible race that was brewing for the first nine minutes.
25:1130-second card is up.
25:14They will release Jet Lawrence first, and the race will be on.
25:18I'll go out on a limb and say Jet's going to hold shot.
25:22John's going to hold shot here on the left.
25:24He's got to go.
25:24And that is the way it looks at practice every morning, but there's a lot more on the line here.
25:47As the battle resumes is Jet Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, Chase Sexton, Eli Tomek, one, two, three, four.
25:53And Sexton immediately attacks Hunter for second.
25:57Yeah, nice move by Chase.
25:59I believe Hunter made a small mistake, but Chase wanted to get in front of him.
26:03Now the race is on.
26:04And Eli Tomek goes up the inside of Hunter Lawrence as well.
26:07I believe Hunter, whether he missed the brakes or not, I'm surprised he went on the outside.
26:10But nonetheless, got the top three in reverse order.
26:14And that pass for Tomek was so critical, James, because Sexton can't rest for the overall in second.
26:19He needs to beat Tomek.
26:21This is going to get interesting.
26:22Tomek can go to the front.
26:23He can still win the overall.
26:25And Hunter's fighting back as well.
26:27Yeah, Eli knows he needs to get on Chase.
26:29Chase looks like he's the one that's the most aggressive.
26:32So is Eli.
26:33And they didn't put any water down, which is great.
26:35So these guys are going at it.
26:39I'm Chase Sexton.
26:40I'm exactly where I want to be at.
26:42Especially if I can keep that 18 close to just give me some confidence.
26:46If Tomek were to get Sexton, he'd have a 2-2.
26:49Sexton's 1-3 would edge him by one point.
26:52You don't want to get into a battle in this situation.
26:55Tomek has nothing to lose, everything to gain.
27:00Same for Hunter.
27:02And all Jet Lawrence can do is hope for help.
27:04And he might be able to control it himself.
27:06Because I'm not sure that Sexton's thinking overall.
27:10Man, Chase got that KTM working through those whoops.
27:13He's able to get in there and get a drive.
27:14That bike is planted.
27:16So I think he wants to win the moto.
27:18Yeah, I mean, the good thing for Chase, he doesn't have the luxury just to sit here and just take the overall.
27:23Because you've got the number three pushing him.
27:25And Eli is just as fired up as Chase is because of what happened at first moto.
27:29So I believe these guys are going to continue to push each other and go for this win.
27:34Yes, if Tomek passes Sexton and Lawrence wins the moto, then Lawrence wins the overall.
27:39So Sexton has to hustle because here is Tomek.
27:42Yeah, they just got to be careful until Eli and Chase Sexton work together and try to continue to push.
27:49Because we see how quickly Jet Lawrence can get away from these guys.
27:52And look at the gap they already have on Hunter Lawrence.
27:54And Justin Cooper is in fifth.
27:59Hampshire, Barsha, Nichols, Stewart, Guillaume, round out the top ten.
28:04Tomek had a wheel on Sexton.
28:08Yeah, looking at Chase's body position, I don't know if he's trying to let the race kind of play out,
28:12but he's definitely not as aggressive as he was when we saw him in the opening laps
28:17and before that restart, even after the restart.
28:24That is Hunter, and then that bottom box, then Hampshire, then Cooper.
28:30Hampshire in the middle with the blue gear.
28:33Jet Lawrence starting to get away.
28:37Yeah, Chase made a small little mistake, and Eli made the same thing.
28:43Waiting to see which direction this will go.
28:48It could come down to this battle.
28:51Tomek versus Sexton again.
28:52If Sexton can hold on up to his second, he wins the overall.
28:57He trips back to third.
28:58Lawrence wins.
28:59Lawrence wins the overall.
29:01JT.
29:02I firmly believe that Chase Sexton wants to go win this moto.
29:05You think how much time he's had to spend behind Jet Lawrence.
29:08This has been going on since the summer of 2023.
29:12Now, he's on form today.
29:13I think that KTM chassis works really, really well in this hard pack.
29:17You heard James mention how planted he looks.
29:19When you have an opportunity like this, and Jet Lawrence looks a little vulnerable, you want to strike.
29:25The overall win is there.
29:26We all know that.
29:27But this is about a lot more than that for Chase Sexton, in my eyes.
29:29Yeah, I'm with you, JT.
29:32And the way Chase is riding, I don't think he has a choice but to go win the race because Eli has the pace.
29:38And how quickly he's able to close in on Jet Lawrence, you know, he's going to be stuck.
29:43You almost have to slow down.
29:44And, man, that KTM looks so good in some of these flatter parts of the racetrack.
29:49But if I'm Jet Lawrence, man, I want to get away from him because every lap of Chase Sexton stays here, he's getting more confidence.
29:56He was able to beat me in that first moto.
29:58I was the one that made the mistake.
29:59And you know how strong Chase has been in these second motos and how strong he is just physically.
30:05I kind of want to end him and have him start racing Eli Tomac.
30:08Race backwards, not forward, towards me.
30:11Nearing the halfway mark.
30:12Still a lot that can happen here at Washougal.
30:15Jet Lawrence's overall win streak is on the line.
30:19Sexton would have it right now.
30:25And for these guys, this moto is going to feel like a sprint because we're only a minute and a half before halfway.
30:31They were able to sit there on the gate for about 10 minutes.
30:34They're completely rested.
30:35So now you're all out, 17-minute sprint it feels like.
30:39And you can see Jet Lawrence trying to sprint away.
30:43Lead is about a second now for Lawrence.
30:46Man, Eli Tomac, though.
30:47He is riding well.
30:50What a difference compared to last week.
30:53We were just mystified as we watched Tomac just going backwards in both motos at Millville.
31:01And now we're back to a classic Tomac and Sexton fight.
31:05We've seen many times over the years they took the championship in 2022 down to the final lap to the final moto.
31:10And they're duking it out again.
31:15Yeah, they're duking it out.
31:17Chase feels like he's pretty comfortable.
31:19I think if this gap stays, you know, a couple seconds, he'll be pretty comfortable.
31:23He's really quick here.
31:24Jet seems like he's better after the finish line until the mechanics there.
31:29He was quicker there in the first moto, but Chase is able to close in up on here.
31:32And these groups have been good for the number one.
31:43Halfway through, a reminder, Monster Energy available at Fred Meyer.
31:48They have left Hunter Lawrence behind.
31:51It is down to these three.
31:53Some of the best racing you'll ever see in the early stages of this moto.
31:59Eli, see how this tire plays out.
32:01Now you see how quickly Chase was able to close in on Jet.
32:07Jet has stretched it out this next section right here.
32:10He's got a line figured out.
32:11Let's see if Chase has made that change.
32:13So you're looking for something different from Sexton here?
32:23I'm just admiring the talent, baby.
32:25I'm just admiring the talent.
32:26It is impressive.
32:27Yeah.
32:28Yeah, I'm just kind of looking at Eli's bike.
32:30When he gets on some of these flattered corners, you know, if he can catch these guys,
32:34how can he pass them?
32:35I do believe it's going to be one of those.
32:37He has to cut out of the corner right on that hard pack.
32:40And does he have the tire to be able to do that?
32:42We know that scoop tire is not necessarily a hard pack tire.
32:47Yeah, with the sand scoop tire there, it's going to be a little different.
32:51Hey, the Super Motocross playoffs, I mentioned this earlier,
32:53they offer some of the most unique opportunities for fans in all sports.
32:57Get the inside track to experience of a lifetime.
33:01Learn more.
33:01Go to smxexperiences.com and become part of the action.
33:05Get down super close to it, including that right there.
33:09And you get up to the podium.
33:11Will?
33:12Well, looking at Chase Sexton and looking at that, before we look at that with the playoffs,
33:17teasing that, you've got to think the two here are connected for Chase Sexton.
33:21We're going into a break.
33:22He's said several times that he wants to be strong in these last three rounds of the pro
33:28motocross season.
33:29Then we go into playoffs.
33:31He's got his eye on the prize there.
33:33I've spoken to several members of the team.
33:34I've spoken to his dad about it.
33:36They want to be in a solid position.
33:38Remember, this is why Chase Sexton came back.
33:41He didn't come back just to prove a point.
33:43He came back because he knew the Super Motocross playoffs were coming up
33:46and he wanted to put himself in good position.
33:49So, James, what will this do for him?
33:51Two weeks off when he's left it like this,
33:53and then he's going to pick up on three strong tracks.
33:56It's got to be huge for him.
33:57Yeah, it's huge for him.
33:58And you can see the difference between the way he opened this second moto up,
34:03the difference between Chase being able to win that first moto,
34:06how aggressive he is, that confidence.
34:08And I do believe every lap that he stays here,
34:11eventually he's going to want to get around Jett Lawrence,
34:13but every lap he stays here, he's just getting more and more confident.
34:16Look, they all feel like they can beat Jett Lawrence,
34:18but until they go do it, you just really never know.
34:21So Chase can somehow do this,
34:22going into that two-week break.
34:25It's going to feel good on the fishing boat or whatever you like to do.
34:28It's good from a math standpoint, too.
34:30This is the combined SMX points as they run.
34:32You look at the lower left of the screen.
34:34Justin Cooper has taken control of the number one seed
34:36from the injured Cooper Webb,
34:38but it was going to be close between Sexton and Jett Lawrence
34:42at the current pace they were on.
34:44Sexton, who can win the overall,
34:46will claw a few points back from what Lawrence has gained
34:51over the last couple of weeks.
34:53And that could be the difference between Sexton being a higher seed
34:55than Lawrence going into the playoffs.
34:58Yeah, no, I agree.
34:59And we know how big that is.
35:00I mean, it came down to one point last year between, like, brothers.
35:03So Chase Sexton knows how important it is.
35:06That's one of the reasons he's back.
35:07And now you're starting to see RJ Hampshire has caught Hunter Lawrence every week,
35:13taking more steps toward the front, J.T.
35:15I'll tell you what, Weech.
35:17RJ has been a revelation over the past month.
35:20And you think about, if you've ever watched RJ Hampshire,
35:22which I'm sure most of our Peacock audience has out there,
35:25you think about RJ, you give him more horsepower and less traction.
35:29That is a recipe for disaster from what we've learned over RJ the past decade.
35:34Not so much.
35:34This 450 has really smoothed him out.
35:37He doesn't have to ride it quite as hard to get up to speed.
35:39And he's really adapted incredibly well here.
35:42And he's challenging to second place in points here.
35:44This guy has really turned on to something on the 450 of the summer week.
35:48Yes, he's had a couple fourth-place finishes in a row.
35:51So right now he's running fifth.
35:52But he has yet to challenge the Sexton-Lawrence-Tomat group.
35:57He's caught Hunter now.
36:00If he can make this pass, this would be another big step.
36:02Yeah, it'd be a huge step.
36:03I believe last weekend was a huge step,
36:05even though Eli wasn't on form at first moto.
36:08But he was able to beat him.
36:09And any time you can beat these three, as you just mentioned, is huge.
36:13And, you know, RJ is riding with Chase Sexton every week,
36:17so during the week, so he knows that pace.
36:19But to be able to come out here in the race, to be able to do that, it'd be huge.
36:23I think Hunter Lawrence is stuck because he doesn't have that toe in front of him.
36:27It's going to be hard for him to try to move forward.
36:29I believe RJ will be here at this whole moto.
36:32RJ, keep working.
36:33Showed a little Dacid love.
36:35Give it to him.
36:36Oh, that's all RJ does.
36:37Well, actually, they're both kind of from Dacid.
36:39Yeah, these days.
36:40Yeah.
36:40One move there, one born there.
36:43But, yeah, you know, RJ, it doesn't matter where he is on the track,
36:46he's going to give you everything he's got.
36:48Yeah, and he looks good.
36:49That's inside line right here, standing in that nice fluff stuff.
36:52You know, Sexton riding well today, and Hampshire, our colleague Ricky Carmichael,
37:00a Supercrosser, when we get to those harder-packed tracks,
37:02we'll talk about the steel chassis sometimes works better.
37:04Do you think there might be anything to that today?
37:07Because we're definitely seeing an elevation, at least for two of them,
37:10with those off-street bikes.
37:11Yeah, it is.
37:13I mean, I'd say even if Chase had the same setup as he had last weekend at Millville,
37:18once he rolled that bike off the truck, it was going to be better here today
37:21because of the way the heels were and some of the struggles that he had.
37:24So he was going to be better.
37:25But if you go back to 2023, you remember the second moto,
37:29Chase was able to run down Jet on a Honda at that point when Jet.
37:33So Chase has always had that speed here.
37:36I think it comes down to the track, really when it comes to Chase,
37:40how this track is, how he rides a motorcycle.
37:43When he's in the zone, man, that guy rides better anyway.
37:46This track only tames these guys, so you've got to be very patient.
37:49We know Chase can't do that.
37:52He started to pull away from Tomac a little bit as he watched his battle
37:55between Hunter Lawrence and RJ Hefshire.
38:00Oh, RJ goes down.
38:02Yeah, it's easy.
38:03We saw Jet Lawrence do the same thing.
38:05Yep, Justin Cooper went by.
38:07I was just going to say, that's a good line by RJ opening that corner up.
38:10Now he'll be on the inside.
38:12And what it does is straightens this whole next section off.
38:15But RJ got a little RJ-ish, got on the gas and that thing spun out.
38:20As Jet begins to stretch his lead, let's look at the Hefshire crash again.
38:24Yep, on the outside now, Hunter Lawrence misses that inside run.
38:28RJ gets him, you see that back tire just slide out,
38:31easing a mistake to happen.
38:33Jet Lawrence did the same thing, but RJ was able to,
38:35recover pretty quickly in fifth or sixth behind Justin Cooper.
38:39Yep.
38:39Barsha, Nichols, Malcolm Stewart, Guillaume, Valentin Guillaume right out of the top ten.
38:44Let's look at the last couple of laps.
38:47Lawrence is pulling away.
38:49Sexton then put it in a 214 heater, and guess what?
38:52So did Jet.
38:53Yeah, Jet actually almost got it out to about three seconds, so Chase is able to close.
38:58And right now, I'm not too worried.
39:00Again, Jet has his parts of the racetrack.
39:03I think Chase is really strong before that finish line.
39:06Let's see how much he wants to go after this win,
39:08especially if he can continue to pull away from Eli.
39:10I think the good thing for Chase is that Eli is still pushing him,
39:14so he has no choice but to continue to fight Jet Lawrence.
39:18Maybe these guys are closing the gap.
39:19Right now, Sexton looking at the overall win with one-two scores.
39:26Lawrence did not get even Tomac in that first moto,
39:31and that was so critical.
39:32The third-place finish means he needs help.
39:34He needs someone to finish between himself and Sexton
39:37to keep the overall win streak alive.
39:39What do we say about RJ Hefshire?
39:41He's always going to give you everything he's got.
39:42He's right back now to battle Justin Cooper.
39:45Yeah, it's going to be a long end,
39:46and they're not that far behind Hunter Lawrence as well,
39:48so RJ continue on this pace.
39:52He can make short work.
39:53Justin Cooper, he might have a chance to get back to the 96.
39:58Can you pick a better time for a guy like Sexton
40:00or a guy like Hefshire to have a good run with a two-week break?
40:03As a rider, you always want to go in with any kind of break
40:06with a good performance because you'd be like,
40:08you know, live on that two weeks.
40:11I was the best.
40:13Comes at a great time.
40:14Yeah, honestly, even if Hefshire doesn't get back to Hunter,
40:17he's still going to take something out of the fact
40:19that he caught him, I would imagine, right?
40:21Yeah, I mean, RJ, any time he, I mean, he's become a top five guy now,
40:26and so here we know at Washougo,
40:28it's a hard racetrack to make up time if you lose it,
40:31so if he's able to get around Justin Cooper,
40:33I'm sure all the guys at Husqvarna would be super happy.
40:36RJ will, does a little RJ-ish kind of kick,
40:39but nonetheless, man, he's been riding really good all year long
40:43and only continue to get better.
40:44I'm really impressed by what he's doing on that 450.
40:48How's it been going for RJ as a 450 rookie?
40:50We asked him to take stock yesterday.
40:55Man, it's been awesome.
40:56It's been a lot of fun, and it's nice to back up your word,
41:00kind of what I said from the beginning.
41:01It's just kind of where I knew I could be.
41:04The good thing is that there's still a lot of growth that can happen.
41:09I feel like my bike can get a lot better.
41:11I got a lot faster than what my bike could have handled at first,
41:14so now it changes settings here and there.
41:17Just trying to enjoy it, man.
41:18Like I said the past couple weeks, a lot of motivation.
41:23I feel like I should have been here a while ago,
41:25but I built my character.
41:28It's who I am now, and yeah, look forward to keep progressing.
41:31Yeah, and what's even bigger with that is that we weren't really sure
41:36if RJ could be a 450 rider, and so not only has he impressed all of us,
41:41I think he solidified being on his team a legit 450 guy
41:47and even moving forward, having some other opportunities
41:50and maybe options to ride 450s on another team if that happens in the future.
41:55So there's a lot of things that happen positive for RJ,
41:58but the best thing, he has smoothed out a lot,
42:01and he looks like he fits on this motorcycle, which is a great sign,
42:04and Husker Barnard has had a rough couple years,
42:07so good to see their guys up and run as good as they have.
42:10Back to the overall leader here, Sexton, two seconds down on Jet Lawrence,
42:18but still sitting on that overall win, which should end the streak.
42:24Lawrence has not been beaten overall this year.
42:26He's only been beaten once in his career.
42:29Sexton's not out of even the moto lead here.
42:31He's got it under two seconds now.
42:32No, he's not. He definitely closed it in.
42:36You know, Jet got stuck behind the lappers,
42:37and Chase is coming in a good spot,
42:39as now you're seeing Jet able to get around that one lap.
42:44Chase looks good to me.
42:46I think if he just continues on this pace, still a great moto for him,
42:50and at some point he's going to start thinking about that overall
42:53because at the end of the day, he got him that first moto.
42:56It's a huge confidence booster. You're able to stay with him.
42:59I think he's starting to believe that he can beat him,
43:01but he wants to get that overall and at least get that streak down.
43:06And Tomac has drifted back.
43:09He's third, but he still would be third overall.
43:10That is massive improvement from the last week as we watch Tomac here.
43:17Now, Tomac, it really started, got to third in the first moto at Redbud,
43:22and then the engine let go, and then he had the bad gate pick,
43:24came through to get about seventh, I think, from a terrible start.
43:27I'll give you the Monster Energy Athlete's running order.
43:31That's Tomac here in third.
43:33Cooper fifth, Prado all the way back in 20th has not been a good moto for him.
43:38But he was third.
43:41He was a podium guy potentially at Redbud if the engine hadn't let go.
43:45So it was really a lot about last week with the 6-9 finishes.
43:49He said they had changed the bike a ton after Redbud didn't work.
43:52Much better today.
43:54Yeah, much better.
43:56100%.
43:56And this looks like, I mean, we've seen Hunter Lawrence lose that toe.
44:00I mean, Hunter was leading this race, so it's not surprising here at Washougal.
44:04If you don't have that, anyone to chase that, you end up just being a no man's land.
44:10But I just like that he was smiling, you know, on that podium.
44:13So there would be a little bit of confidence that goes out for Eli if he finishes off this second moto back on the podium.
44:19And, again, these top three, they're battling it.
44:22I mean, they're all the same speed.
44:24So if he's fighting for a podium, he's fighting for a win at this point.
44:29Jeff Verlaine improvement.
44:30Will?
44:32I was just listening to what you guys were saying there, Jason, about the improvements on the bike
44:36and the difference between me and Redbud, and I asked team manager Rich Simmons, I said,
44:40why the changes when you had success at the beginning of the year?
44:44Is this about soil change?
44:45You know, what's this about?
44:46We come back to a hard-packed track here.
44:48And he said, it's about always getting better.
44:51James, I wanted you to sort of give me your opinion on that.
44:53If you're out of the championship, but you are used to battling up front, and that's what you do,
44:59the idea of not getting better, the idea of not trying so that you're back up there to them
45:04is just seemingly not an option.
45:07Yeah, and that's the hard part for Eli because he's so good, and we expect him to be on the podium.
45:13So any time he's at a sixth place, a fifth place, people are, what's going on?
45:16What's going on?
45:17Because we expect so much.
45:19And then you start questioning whether it's him fitting his bike and, you know, is he trying?
45:24Well, he's trying.
45:25I mean, all of these guys are out here trying, but the level of where Eli wants to be at
45:30and should be at, it's up front.
45:32And I keep continuously saying, if these guys who won championship, Jorge Prada's going through
45:37the same thing, if you're not able to compete for a win or a championship, it is hard to
45:42be out here.
45:44And as I just said, him battling for a third place is the same as him battling for a win.
45:49And so, for me, I like what I see, but it's a tough position with Eli when that bike went
45:53out.
45:55I remember one time in Supercross, you actually lost a race, and you went on Twitter and said,
45:59hey, here's what happened.
46:00I got beat.
46:01Merry Christmas.
46:02Because everybody's like, how could this be?
46:04You're like, I got beat.
46:06Yeah, exactly.
46:07Just sometimes the other guy's better, you know?
46:11Sometimes, but a lot of times it comes down to a lot of, like, nuance and stuff.
46:14Yes.
46:15But we asked the question when riders are at that standard.
46:18The questions come hot and heavy as soon as that race is over.
46:21Yeah, I remember that race.
46:22I was so mad, too.
46:24But I could say that because I knew at the end of the day I was better.
46:27I was still going to come back and win.
46:28Okay.
46:28I wouldn't have said it if I'm like, no, this guy, I really feel like he can't beat me.
46:33I'm like, oh, no, the bike's not good or something else.
46:35You would have gone to the excuse.
46:37I don't want the excuse of him for sure.
46:40Good to see Eli riding better.
46:41Shout out to Marshall Welton.
46:42We mentioned he's the Privateer Power Award winner from FMF.
46:47As you watch Yamaha riders, shout out to Yamaha's show Beyond the Gate.
46:52You can watch at the Yamaha Motor USA YouTube channel every week.
46:56Gives you a look behind the scenes, both at the race and during the week for Yamaha's factory-supported teams.
47:03Welton, just an old-fashioned grinder, man.
47:05This guy races anywhere, spends some time in Europe, veteran out of Michigan.
47:09And just, this old-school man, just trying to make a living on dirt bikes.
47:15And the tip of the spear is so sharp in this sport.
47:18I mean, Welton is so darn good.
47:20And we go back to Shock here, who actually hurt his ankle in that first moto.
47:24Said he was going to give it a go in moto two.
47:27Fifteenth, going to score some points.
47:30Stack those chips.
47:31Yep.
47:32Talk to Shock about the length of the season yesterday.
47:36And he's like, yeah, I'm starting to feel it, but...
47:38During this break we've got, I'm hopping on my two-stroke.
47:42I'm going to go to some local tracks and just ride for fun.
47:44So, the flame is burning, just in a different direction.
47:48Yeah.
47:48During the break.
47:49Yeah, and you wouldn't think, if they had an opportunity to take some break,
47:52you would think these guys would want to be off.
47:54Right.
47:54But we start feeling guilty.
47:56Yeah, you told me that this morning.
47:58Yeah, you just, like, the body's saying, rest, rest, rest.
48:01But one day off, you feel like you're losing ground.
48:03And we know how important that mind is.
48:06Mm-hmm.
48:08So, Welton and Shock battling right now.
48:10Welton on the Gizmo Mods, Rock River, Yamaha.
48:14Seventy-four, Lorenzo Licurcio.
48:16Right there at Shock Null.
48:18On the Wildcat Racing, Gas Gas.
48:21That's where Lorenzo's been in a lot of the motos this year.
48:23Right around that 14th to 16th spot.
48:2616th right now.
48:27And I know the fans are always watching the battles up front,
48:30but these guys, this group, is kind of nine through 15.
48:34They probably have better battles than anybody all week.
48:37We asked Lorenzo about being the owner of his own team and racing as well.
48:42Yeah, honestly, it's a lot to handle.
48:46I've overestimated it.
48:48Underestimated it, sorry.
48:49But, yeah, no, I do whatever I can during the week.
48:53There's a lot of phone calls, e-mails.
48:56Sometimes I've got to go pick up stuff, come back.
48:59And it takes a lot of my training away.
49:02Wish I could do a little more physical training and stuff like that during the week.
49:05But my focus is more on the dirt bike and then just having the team running and everything,
49:10making sure it's all smooth.
49:11So it's a big task, but nothing's impossible.
49:15So I'm having fun doing it.
49:17Yeah, well, the good thing is he doesn't have to worry about getting fired.
49:21He looks like he ain't going to fire himself unless things go that bad.
49:24But, you know, you mentioned these battles, and as we look at all the different countries that's racing here,
49:31truly an international-like field, these guys who are battling it in these, like Lorenzo and Welton, Harry Coolis,
49:38these guys are in shape because they're battling all 35 minutes, you know, 30-plus-2 laps.
49:44And I can guarantee you, Jack is riding easier.
49:48The race is easier for him out front than it is for these guys because they're always fighting each other.
49:53It seems like every week they're always hooking up, and they know it.
49:56Oh, shout-out to all of them.
49:59There's no rest for these guys, absolutely.
50:01And what's on the line for them are those SMX points as we check in with the leader, Chet Lawrence.
50:06Guillaume, who did not race Supercross, is up to 20-30 combined points right now.
50:12Harrison has been good all year indoors and out.
50:14It's 21st, and Harry Coolis also didn't race Supercross.
50:17He's 25th, so the last six motos that will loom after the break.
50:22Really could tell a story of who gets into the playoffs automatically in the top 20
50:27and who has to race the LCQ, and it pays a lot of money, so that's huge for those privateer riders.
50:34Back to Lawrence.
50:36Looks like he has shut the Sexton charge down, but the overall win streak is going to come to an end,
50:43barring disaster for Sexton.
50:44Yeah, you notice, Jett, you know, a few corners ago he gave a little wave to one of the lap riders,
50:51which tells me he must have gave that guy a business in one of the corners.
50:56You know, probably not on purpose by him waving, but what an answer to this guy.
51:01He ran a 213 a couple laps ago, and that was pretty much sealed the deal for him.
51:05Chase is now understanding.
51:07Let me just bring this thing home.
51:09We've got to crawl before we walk.
51:11At this point, a good day for all these guys.
51:13What a bounce-back moto for Jett Lawrence.
51:16He's not there, baby.
51:17He's not there.
51:18Yeah, just taking a glass, and if it ends this way, it will be 22 wins in 24 450 pro motocross races.
51:26But, look, the only one he lost last year was Hangtown, where he had a huge crash on a downhill jump
51:33and was definitely hurting all day.
51:35It's a little bit, he did fall in the first moto, but it's a little bit closer to what you'd call a straight up,
51:41you know, he was behind Sexton when he went down.
51:44So, this is something, I don't know how much of a something, but it is something for sure.
51:50Yeah, Jett wins his moto, Chase hangs on to his overall.
51:54Yeah, Jett really had a bad race today.
51:58I mean, he's struggling so much, he lost an overall.
52:01I mean, that is...
52:02It's his stats, it's his own greatness that makes you, we can really say that.
52:06Like, whoa, what happened?
52:07And I'm going to tell you this, Jett, welcome to my club, son.
52:11Welcome to my club, second place.
52:13And the first question is going to be, what happened?
52:15What happened?
52:16Watamoto got second.
52:17Here's what happened.
52:18Chase Sexton conquers Washougal and gets the overall win.
52:23with one, two scores.
52:26His first win since the series finale.
