05:55by over a second, so he has some pace.
05:58And yeah, that fifth place, that first moto
06:00is definitely not what he wanted.
06:01But we know this track, if you're not in tow,
06:04you lose a lot of time.
06:05So Justin might be a lot faster as we watch it.
06:08Eli Tomac gets around Cody Schock up the inside.
06:11And Plessinger did as well, James.
06:13So Plessinger and Tomac, they have the speed to get to the front.
06:17Can they make that gap close and make it a five-rider battle
06:22for this lead?
06:23Yeah, they have to because the way this racetrack is,
06:26if you lose the toe to the leaders,
06:28you're going to have that gap about 50 seconds as we watch.
06:32It's like Eli Tomac just trying to get up the inside.
06:34We watched Justin Cooper and Hunter Lawrence go to the lap before.
06:37The same scenario happened.
06:38So it's going to be important for these guys
06:40not to slow each other down
06:41and make sure they keep that gap and move it forward.

06:47they are catching the lead trio.

07:18The cowboy we call the number seven of Aaron Plessinger.
07:22Everywhere we go, you see the photo there with the cowboy hat.
07:25He is so loose, so wide open at the races.
07:28And then Tomac has the fans because this is his home state.
07:31If they can get to that lead trio, this place is going to go crazy.
07:35And they can see Jett Lawrence ahead of them.
07:38And they're catching him.
07:39Yeah, they're starting to close, and it's giving them Eli confidence.
07:42But he was in the same position earlier in the first moto,
07:45not being this close to Jett Lawrence.
07:47But Hunter Lawrence was there, and he couldn't get around him.

07:51So whatever Eli does, he needs to just keep that momentum going.

08:32So Justin's going to be able to maybe run these lap times and not be taking too many chances,
08:37which is going to make Jett Lawrence and Hunter Lawrence have to push when you saw with Hayden Deegan
08:42mistakes.
08:43They'll come up and bite you if you end up overriding this racetrack.
08:47Now the brothers from Australia, Hunter and Chet Lawrence,
08:50but in a fight for second behind Justin Cooper.

09:48And this fourth pack, the Loraxes, Plessinger and Tomac are battling, yet they're not able to catch Justin Cooper.

09:59And the more they start racing each other, that's going to allow Justin Cooper to be able to get that gap.

24:26for these two to be healthy
24:28and ready in the same season
24:30but they are now
24:31and they're dueling for the win
24:32here in Tomak's
24:33home state of Colorado

24:40is on the charge. Well, what a nice
24:42corner by Eli, and you wouldn't
24:44think 1.8 seconds is a
24:46lot, but the way this racetrack is, it's
24:48so easy to make a mistake, and if you're
24:50Eli Tomac, just like we saw at the
24:52first opening round, you get so close,
24:54you're like, I want to get him now, but you've got to be
24:56patient, because clearly you have the
24:58pace to catch this guy. It's the
25:00mistakes that are killing you, and when you get close
25:02to him, it makes it, but at the same time,
25:04that's the number 18, just executing
25:06his race better than anyone at this
25:08point. Just phenomenal,

25:13right, as we see him make a small mistake there.
25:15We didn't know what we were going to get,
25:16James, when we came into this race
25:18series here, because we hadn't seen Eli on
25:20track for a while. I got to talk to his dad,
25:23the motor, the
25:24mountain bike legend that is John Tomac
25:26yesterday, and I said to him, how are we seeing
25:28the best version of your son here at
25:3032 years old? He said, well, he's actually been
25:32through something that he's never experienced before
25:34in his career, and that's the brakes,
25:36the three injuries that he kind of had in a row,
25:38the Achilles, then his thumb,
25:40and then the broken leg. He said that's given
25:42him time to actually regroup.
25:44Look at his diet, assess his training,
25:47and just train, just focus
25:48on it. He said he's never had that before,
25:50so that's how you say it. And he
25:52did say, if it wasn't for those injuries,
25:54maybe he would have retarded already.
25:56So we may be seeing Eli Tomac
25:58now because of that and not in spite of it.

26:02and these fans are all the better for it, because
26:04Lawrence has arrived as considered
26:06the next star of the sport, but Tomac

26:21He goes a little bit farther inside
26:22than he has been. He's been running out outside,
26:24and he's just been losing a lot of it. So, yeah,
26:26to Will's point, I remember when I did my
26:28ACL back in 07, I
26:30actually ended up missing the end
26:32of that series and then the beginning of the next
26:34series, because I tore it again, and that year gave
26:36me that break. So, I probably would have
26:38retired another year or two earlier because
26:40of that. So, where Eli's feeling,
26:42I completely understand, and he's
26:44having fun. He's got his family here.
26:48And his health seems to be good. We asked Tomac
26:50about that yesterday.
26:53I would say
26:54on the motorcycle, I feel
26:56100%. I'm not really
26:58dealing with any
26:59side effects. There's
27:02some cross-training things that I'm
27:04not, that I still actually feel in my
27:06leg, but on the motorcycle,
27:08I can do anything I
27:10want. Well, it's incredible
27:12how tough and motivated Tomac is.
27:14He broke his leg earlier this
27:16year in a supercross race in qualifying.
27:19He still
27:20raced the race and finished 17th
27:23with a leg
27:24that turned out to be broken.
27:27That's how tough this guy
27:28is. That's how badly the
27:30four-time champion wants to get back to
27:32the top, and he is not making life
27:34easy on Chet Lawrence.
27:35No, he's definitely not. He's going
27:38for it, and the last time I was 100%, it seems like
27:40when I just came out, my mom's
27:42stomach. So, I don't
27:44think anything, these guys can walk,
27:46we're 100% ready to go, and
27:48these guys are giving 110% out.
27:49Oh no! Tomac goes down!
27:51Yeah, and you felt, this is what I was
27:54talking about. He closed in on
27:56Jett Lawrence and just trying to push.
27:59Easy to happen. Both these riders
28:01are on his limit, and the first one to
28:03make the mistake was the number three,
28:05Eli Tomac.
28:09Unbelievable to see these two push each
28:11other. You rarely see those types of mistakes
28:12from Tomac. He had one
28:15last week as well, trying to come through the pack.
28:17These guys are just leaving it all out there.
28:19Yeah, I know it's
28:21frustrating, but it's clearly easy.
28:23Now, look out, he's closed on
28:25Jetty, goods in this corner, and just really
28:27just pushing it. What you see is
28:29his front end, and he starts losing his front end
28:31earlier in that corner, and it just
28:33starts falling over. He loses the front
28:35end, and at this point, he just falls over
28:37and hits that berm, and just
28:38easy mistake to happen. This could have happened
28:41five times a lap, but just
28:42finally it got him.
28:44And Justin Cooper hanging in there
28:46from third. This is the rider that led the race early
28:48out of Long Island, New York, but when
28:50Lawrence and Tomac up the pace,
28:52they pulled away from him. Can he take advantage
28:54of that Tomac fall? He
28:55has the number three back in his sights
28:58for second.
29:01Yeah, when you're Eli Tomac,
29:03the hardest thing to do at this
29:05is point, because you're all about winning
29:06races, so it might allow Justin Cooper
29:08to get back in the picture, because
29:10you know, at this point, he's like, man, all's
29:12for nothing. I want to win. I'm not here to get second
29:14place. Just a key
29:17focus, long series, long championship
29:19and love what he's got going on
29:21right now. And here's what's incredible.
29:22Jett Lawrence hangs on to win this one.
29:25He will tie Ken Howerton
29:26for 10th all time. It wins
29:28in this class, and he's only about
29:30two years, two calendar
29:32years into it. Jumped into
29:34the class of 2023. He is
29:36starting to move up that overall
29:38win list, and there you see him
29:40right there. He has 17
29:43in 18 career
29:44starts. He's trying to be 18
29:46out of 19. That is
29:48unbelievable. No, it's
29:50insane. To be honest, people
29:52like what he's doing out here is
29:54really something special
29:56and the way he's, the way he rides
29:58a motorcycle, it's almost the same way he's
30:00climbing up these records that I didn't even realize
30:03that he won 17 out of 18
30:04until we were looking at the stats
30:06because how consistently he
30:08does it, but also how close everyone
30:10else has been, but this kid just continues
30:12to win another race.
30:14Eli was right there on him,
30:16close to him. He just passed in the first
30:18motor, Jett Lawrence, that is, but somehow
30:20this kid stands up,
30:22keeps his composure, and he ends up
30:24walking away, and if he can go with another
30:26two and a half laps, it'd be another
30:27overall win, and no matter how close they are,
30:30they're still not close enough to win.
30:33That's right, James. Same thing happened
30:34in the first moto an hour ago.
30:36they had him on the ropes, but he always
30:37figures out a way.
30:40Looks like Tomac, you see shock going by,
30:41that's a lap rider now, the early race leader
30:43after a fall.
30:45Then orange and blue gear is the third place rider,
30:48Justin Cooper.
30:49Not quite close enough to challenge.
30:52Tomac, he's trying to get around the 199,
30:53and John Short on the red machine,
30:55he is a lap down.
30:56Still a good run
30:58for Justin Cooper in his
31:00second year on the big 450
31:02and continuing to make gains.
31:04Yeah, no, good ride by, I mean, all three of these guys,
31:06actually all top five, Hunter Lawrence,
31:09bro, good Aaron Plessinger, Cooper Webb,
31:11you know, but at the same time,
31:12the reason why the rides don't feel that
31:14good, because the same guy continues to win,
31:16and I know that's frustrating for a lot
31:18of these guys, and especially Eli and
31:20Justin Cooper, who have hopes and have
31:22the speed to win, but seem
31:24that can't get it done, and
31:26you know, I know it's tough, and
31:28earlier in practice, you asked me,
31:30when we saw Jet Lawrence, he was in fourth
31:31after that first practice, you asked me,
31:33is that something? And I'm like, no,
31:35well, this is kind of why, because
31:36when the race comes down, no matter
31:38what happens, this kid shows up,
31:41and he's able to answer the bell
31:42on any question anybody asks him.
31:44No doubt about it.
31:45As for Justin Cooper, again,
31:47get tuned in to build in his second year
31:48on the big 450.
31:49We asked him about his advancements yesterday.
31:52and I think we're, you know, it's all there.
31:59It's really close.
32:01This is a really good track for me,
32:02so this might be the weekend,
32:03but either way, I've been really happy
32:05with how everything's going,
32:06and my team, everything's working
32:08really great, and yeah, I really
32:11love this place.
32:12I've only been off the podium here
32:13like once in my nine years, so,
32:15and that was with a 3-3,
32:17which is crazy, so,
32:18it's a good track for me, and, yeah,
32:21hopefully we can at least get a moto win.
32:24That would be cool, and if not, the overall.
32:27And Justin Cooper has two overall wins
32:29at this track in the 250 division,
32:32and showing his speed on the 450 here
32:35as he runs third.
32:36Drop back to Hunter Lawrence in fourth.
32:38Every one of these riders
32:39could feel like they had a shot
32:41at at least an individual moto win today,
32:44and Hunter is part of that group
32:46at the sharp end as well.
32:47Yeah, this is going to be a hard hit
32:50for all these guys outside of Jet Lawrence
32:52because, as you just mentioned,
32:53they all felt like they were right there.
32:55I mean, passing him,
32:56they were in front of him in his second moto,
32:58but somehow he's able to get around them,
33:00and he's, you know, you're 20 seconds down.
33:02You know, you were close to having this guy
33:04on the ropes, but somehow he still ends up.
33:06So, for me, there's certain types of races
33:08that you're there, you're like,
33:09okay, I was close, I fell, or whatnot,
33:12and this guy's just better,
33:13but here, you really can't say that.
33:15You'd be like, no, we were there,
33:16we had this guy,
33:18and yet he ends up beating us by 20 seconds.
33:21Just for the confidence-wise,
33:22it's going to be hard to continue
33:24to push forward after this one.
33:26So, after Hunter,
33:29you see the number seven,
33:30the cowboy here, Aaron Plessinger,
33:32one of the most popular riders out here.
33:34Great run earlier today in moto one,
33:36back in fifth here in moto two.

33:41to take the positives from a day like today.
33:43He was so close to getting that moto win
33:46there in moto one,
33:48but unfortunately, look in moto two,
33:50he finds himself 30 seconds down,
33:52so it's polishing the final product right now.
33:55It's putting two motos together
33:56that can get him not only that first moto win,
33:59but the overall,
33:59and you can see him labor.
34:00You can see what those moto,
34:02battling for those moto wins
34:03is taken out of him.

34:08Yes, they did throw everything they had at Lawrence.
34:11This is an endurance sport for sure.
34:12These are 30-minute races,
34:13but their heart rates are pinned
34:14180, 190 the whole time.
34:17Is there an element where
34:18Jets saving a little bit
34:20while they're attacking him
34:21and they're going all out?
34:23No, I think what this kid's doing,
34:25he's one of the smartest races I've ever seen.
34:27You know, for him to be able to adapt
34:31and really play defense
34:33while playing offense,
34:34you know, he's putting those guys
34:35in a position to where
34:36he's taken away from what their best asset is.
34:40You know, if Eli has a line here,
34:43Jets in front of him,
34:43he shouldn't be able to see him,
34:44but he's able to cover that part up
34:47and being a racer,
34:48Jets beating these guys by being smarter,
34:51to be honest with you.
34:51I mean, clearly he has talent,
34:53he has speed,
34:54but we saw how close Aaron Flesinger was.
34:56We saw how close Eli was,
34:58but Jets just out riding them
35:00and just outsmarting them.
35:03And that's really special
35:06to have that talent
35:07be as young as he is
35:08and to be able to outwit
35:09these veterans out here.
35:11And it's going to be hard
35:13for these guys to continue to move forward
35:14because they're just really getting beat
35:15by being a smarter racer.
35:17He knows how to do it,
35:18and I think he's one of the smartest racers
35:19I've ever seen.
35:21Wow, that's saying a lot.
35:22And he is just 21 years old
35:25and again,
35:25only jumped onto the 450 in 2023
35:27and already looking to be tied
35:30for 10th all time
35:31in wins in this class.
35:35He's the only rider on the podium
35:36in every moto so far this year,
35:38and that's why he's beginning
35:38to build the point lead,
35:40even though they've been close
35:41in the races.
35:42At the end,
35:43he's been on top
35:44in all but one,
35:46and he is now in the final lap.
35:48Weather the storm,
35:49four or five riders
35:51all took a shot,
35:52all looked like they had him covered,
35:53but he was clutch,
35:55under fire,
35:56and Chet Lawrence wins again.
