00:00É a fly racing, 30-second card is up.
00:0740 riders on the gate, they'll race for 30 minutes and 2 laps.
00:13Hunter choosing a little outside of Jeff, but he does have that starter's box next to him.
00:20He gets a jump, he'll have a better angle.
00:23Here it is, revs are up.
00:27Gates down.
00:30And Jet rockets to the lead, he's got Jorge Bono on his hip, Cody Schock around the outside,
00:36but Jet Lawrence to the lead and Hunter up the second.
00:40Carmen got me in that first moto and you know Jet Lawrence probably is not going to make that same mistake
00:45and he knows how good Hunter's been riding all day, but perfect start by the 18 to get out to this moto.
00:53Schock challenging Hunter.
00:54Look at Cody go here on the Munkoff FX, Sarc Plumbex and Yamaha.
01:01Not enough.
01:02Lawrence Brothers 1-2 again.
01:04Oh, that was close by Hunter.
01:05They put a little bit of water down just like they did.
01:08Track's going to be a little slippery, but you can see how aggressive Jet is already trying to get away
01:12and see if he can end this race pretty early, but that's going to be hard with Hunter Lawrence and how good he's run.
01:16Looks like Chase Sexton has made his way up into third place now.
01:21Nice scrub past Cody Schock.
01:23Now, just like last weekend, Sakamoto was a lot better for Chase Sexton.
01:27Let's see if he can repeat that and get on Jet because Jet's already starting to get away.
01:32He's going to have his hands full.
01:33Well, Katie mentioned that KTM team, they wanted Chase to be more aggressive.
01:37Well, he goes by Prado and Schock in quick fashion, and he's here to challenge those Hondas.
01:42Mount Martin, 500 feet just about, top to bottom.
01:52And remember, you saw Sexton and Hunter Lawrence battle a ton last year for this championship.
01:57Jet was out injured, so Sexton has to pedigree to roam with him.
02:01There is Prado.
02:03Yeah, no, Chase clearly does, but this is the part where you haven't been racing that lack, that intensity.
02:09That's what you can't replicate as Jorge Prado goes up the inside of Cody Schock now.
02:14With Jorge, it's all been really a lot of mental stuff for him, so he's going to have to remember who he is.
02:23Otherwise, it's going to be a long moto for him.
02:24But this is the same thing he did in the earlier part of the first moto.
02:27He's got to finish it off.
02:29Yeah, opening laps have been good for Prado the last couple of weeks.
02:31See Justin Barsha come flying in there, sixth on the rock start, Gas Gas.
02:37Shock and Prado going at it.
02:39They ride together at PubMX actually during the week, even though they're not on the same team.
02:43Prado is using that South Carolina facility to ride and test, get used to American style.
02:49Honestly, weather and tracks.
02:52Good battle here.
02:52Yeah, you can see how hard Jorge ran it into that corner.
02:56That's a little bit of frustration because that's one of those things that you know you're not going to be able to pass.
02:59But, you know, him, Cody did a great pass going around the outside of him.
03:03Probably a little frustrating.
03:05Now, this is where Jorge has been struggling.
03:07Once he starts getting the pass, it just seems like he keeps going the other way.
03:11So, let's see a little bit of fight for him.
03:12Jorge is doing all that he can to get around shock.
03:17And, of course, we know this is the same old story.
03:19Each weekend, there is always a direct battle happening with Jorge Prado.
03:23In fact, between his two motos, they did make some adjustments, suspension adjustments.
03:28He was not happy with how the bike was working in that first moto.
03:31The team also continued to say he has a good start.
03:34We just now got to make sure that he gets comfortable on the bike.
03:36And that is the same story that we're hearing for Jorge Prado here this season.
03:41Thanks, Kenny.
03:41Look at Barsha come flying down that hill and take the measure of shock.
03:46I've been impressed with Barsha coming back from injury here and riding well.
03:51Kajilai Tomac, he's at 11th.
03:53He's under fire from Tony Corolli.
03:55So, not what you expect from the four-time 450 motocross channel.
04:00See if they can move forward.
04:01Jason, can you look at that lap time that Jeff just ran?
04:05A 154.
04:06What?
04:07I don't even know if I want to see it.
04:09Yes.
04:09Yeah, I mean, it's impressive that Hunter at that time is accurate, him closing that gap down.
04:16But, oh, wait a minute.
04:17Well, just as quickly as we're singing the praise to the 18.
04:2196 closing back up on his little bro.
04:23Yeah, I mean, Hunter must have had a good lap.
04:26Yeah, Jett went back to a 158.
04:30Yeah, I don't know if I've ever seen that that early.
04:32Four seconds different between the opening lap.
04:35So, was that a mistake by Jett to drop off for Hunter is picking up?
04:39But, nonetheless, this is what Hunter needed to do because Jett, by running that lap time and how aggressive he was,
04:44it looks like he was trying to put it into that streak early and maybe put Hunter before he's just got to settle for a second by getting away with him.
04:51But, Hunter's doing a good job staying there.
04:54And, you got the number one lurking about three seconds behind him.
04:57Oh, I was going to say, that's the litmus test.
04:59You know Hunter's still in the gas.
05:01He's pulled away just a little bit from Simpson there in third.
05:06Yeah, I'm thinking that time on that beginning.
05:09I don't know if that was accurate because that's pretty fast.
05:14But, who knows?
05:14The guy's that good.
05:16He's capable.
05:17I don't know if he's that good.
05:18But, nonetheless, good to see Hunter Lawrence staying with him because this is what he needed to do.
05:23And, I do believe Chase Sexton's got to do everything he can.
05:27And, if he wants to have a shot at winning this race, if he's within, you know, a few seconds by halfway, then he'll have a shot.
05:33But, the problem has been those guys have been a little quicker than him all day long.
05:37And, if he loses the toe, it's going to be hard to catch him as we've seen happen at first moto.
05:42So, Prado is taking control of fourth from Schock, who's now under pressure from Hampshire.
05:48Hampshire on the right.
05:50On the white Rockstar Husqvarna.
05:54Hampshire jumping up to the top.
05:55Right there with Schock, no.
05:57Yeah, let's see what RJ does.
05:59I mean, this guy's becoming a top five specialist, you know, week in and week out, moto and moto.
06:04So, he's gaining confidence as he goes past Cody Schock around the outside.
06:08Cody, line on the inside, works out for him.
06:11Nice move by Cody.
06:12He thought RJ was going to have it, but Cody's putting up a fight.
06:16But, RJ should have him right here.
06:17Nice little scrub.
06:18I hope you'll have the inside in this next corner.
06:22And, finishes the pass.
06:26Good job by Hefshire.
06:28It's been rock solid.
06:29Jumping up to the 450 for the first time here in Pro Motocross.
06:34This season, Schock has been feisty today, though.
06:37Yeah, Cody's been running really good.
06:39And, he's another guy who's moved up to the 450 class.
06:42So, he's learning his bike, you know, learning the weightage tracks are on a 450.
06:46So, not surprising he's getting better and what a start can do for all these guys.
06:50But, RJ has been really consistent.
06:52I say by him, almost losing the front end right there.
06:55But, he's been consistent these last few races being that top five guy.
06:59Let's see what happens.
07:00Katie?
07:01Yeah, one of the things the team said in between Moto One and now is that RJ really needed to focus on his speed right after the start in those first couple of laps.
07:09Obviously, we're seeing him get around Cody.
07:12The other thing that you shared with me was that he's connecting more with the bike than they have ever seen.
07:18And, he doesn't need to override it.
07:19Sue, how important on a track like this with the conditions that it's in is it to not override the bike?
07:25It's really, really important.
07:27So, it's kind of a catch-22.
07:29The team's telling you you need to be faster in the opening part of the races and ride.
07:33But, that kind of says you've got to override the motorcycle a little bit to be comfortable because it's one of those things that it's more of a mindset and just have to practice and over and over.
07:43It's not easy picking it up.
07:45And, that's the Jett Lawrence effect.
07:47He's making all these guys here at Permanent Team where you've got to be quicker in the opening part of the races.
07:52Well, how good does 18 have been?
07:54It doesn't really matter when they're quick.
07:55They're just not quick enough.
07:56But, it's good to see RJ out here.
07:59Now, good to see Eli Toback moving forward because we really wasn't sure what happened that first moto and then a bad start.
08:06It's going to be a tough day for Eli, but good to see him win a little fight.
08:09Yeah, he started to put it together, pulling away from Corolli a bit.
08:12He just passed your brother Malcolm Stewart there down to the bottom of the hill.
08:16And, he has Justin Cooper and Barsha right ahead of him.
08:21Yeah, it looks like Tony Corolli is still following Eli up to.
08:24Oh, no, wait, Malcolm coming back.
08:26Look at that.
08:31He knows we're watching.
08:32He knows we're watching.
08:33Throw that fish and hook.
08:34Hook into him.
08:34So.
08:37It's not what we expect from Eli Tomek.
08:39Again, the four-time champ struggles in moto one.
08:42And, you and I had a real conversation even during the break about him and Prado riders who are used to winning.
08:47And, you talk so much about the mental side and what happens when you're Meijer back here.
08:52Yeah, and you see it.
08:54I mean, Eli, clearly, he has his speed.
08:56He has these bursts of speed.
08:58But, it just seems like when things are going wrong, there's really not a lot of fight.
09:02And, it's not because he doesn't try, but it's because the championship's gone.
09:06Eli wants to be battling with Jet Lawrence.
09:08And, when you're a Jorge Prado and Eli Tomek, when they're all about winning championships, when you can't do that, it is, people don't understand how hard it is for these guys to go out here racing.
09:19And, they think they're either tired or quitting.
09:22It's a mental battle that is so difficult to deal with.
09:25And, I went through that.
09:26It took me a couple years to go through that fact to get my confidence.
09:30And, so, what you're seeing is a rider who expects to be up front, who's not up front, who doesn't care about being intent.
09:36And, that's hard.
09:36Yeah, it's been tough today on towback as Jet Lawrence continues to lead.
09:49Hunter Lawrence, he's applying serious pressure.
09:52Jet almost threw it away on the downside of Mount Martin.
09:57Hunter is right there.
09:59Yeah, you saw that, too.
10:01And, that's 100%.
10:02That is from Hunter Lawrence, you know, putting that pressure on him.
10:06Jet's charging down that hill.
10:08He probably missed a spot by an inch and ended up going, almost going down right there.
10:11So, JT, he's putting it, putting that pressure on the A-10.
10:15He's trying to, James.
10:16But, you know, we're in that zone here where we always feel like Jet's going to be nervous.
10:22Jet's going to feel the pressure.
10:23There's somebody sitting on his rear wheel.
10:25And, it just doesn't seem like that ever equates anything to Jet.
10:28And, I just, I wonder, is it a more comfortable feeling because it's his big brother sitting there?
10:34Or, is it less comfortable because he knows how well Hunter's been riding all day?
10:38What do you think, James?
10:39From looking at the mistakes, I would say it's more uncomfortable because of how good the 96 is riding.
10:47And, he knows how strong he is because he rides one of them every day.
10:50So, the way today is going, it's not like the normal thing where, hey, he'll just eventually get this.
10:56We saw him make a few mistakes going down the hill, made another one.
10:59And, yeah, he's got his hands full with the 96, giving him confidence.
11:03And, towing along Chase Sexton as well as R.J. gets around Jorge.
11:07Cooking around the outside.
11:09Hampshire with the pass chase.
11:10Yeah, no, R.J.'s been making some strong passes for him.
11:14So, makes his way up into fourth place where he finished that first moto.
11:17And, this is where Jorge has been struggling at this year, like he's mentioned.
11:22Once he gets past, you can see that gap.
11:25And, it's a tough position to be in because, again, he wants to be on the podium.
11:29He does not want to be going backwards.
11:31And, it's a fine line between getting good starts.
11:34And, when you're Jorge Prada, Eli Tomac, a good start could be the worst thing for you.
11:39Because, if you start going the wrong way, it just ruins your confidence.
11:43And, so, you're better off just getting a 10th place start and finishing 12th than getting a good start and end up 10th.
11:49And, I think that's what we see with Jorge and even Eli, that first moto, where they're up front.
11:53And, the next thing you know, they're battling for 15th.
11:56And, it ain't because they're quitting.
11:58It's just a hard thing, like I mentioned earlier.
11:59Yeah, and, you also don't think it's fitness.
12:01It's going to look to the layman that Prado is just not fit enough to maintain the pace.
12:08You think it's almost more mental.
12:09Yeah, I would, I bet my life that it's more mental.
12:13Because, it's not like, if it was fitness, you know, he would be going super fast.
12:17And, then, all of a sudden, he would just kind of drop off.
12:19Right now, you can see it in his body language.
12:21It looks the same to people on the outside.
12:24But, this is a mental battle right here, Jorge.
12:26And, it's not surprising, as Hunter Lawrence is closing in on his brother, it's not surprising that it's only getting worse.
12:33And, it's a tough position for him to be in.
12:35But, I know Jorge, he is trying.
12:37The Kawasaki team is trying.
12:39It's frustrating for all those guys.
12:41But, this is a battle that Jorge has never experienced.
12:43And, he's dealing with it right now.
12:44I'll tell you who's trying.
12:45Jet Lawrence is trying.
12:46This is not, to my eye, maintaining a comfortable gap.
12:50He is hauling the mail and cannot get away.
12:53Yeah, he is.
12:55And, to me, when I'm watching Hunter, we haven't showed him a lot.
12:58But, he looks a little bit more comfortable than Jet, you know, being behind him.
13:01And, if Jet doesn't know, he didn't see Hunter that first moto because he went down and Hunter had such a gap.
13:05So, he doesn't know his lines where Hunter is learning where Jet is really strong.
13:09And, Jet wasn't able to get away from him, which only gave him confidence.
13:13But, at the same time, I do feel like these brothers are secretly working together.
13:18Their whole goal is to drop that number one and three.
13:21So, I don't think Hunter is going to do anything to really slow that pace down because he doesn't want to bring the number one back into it.
13:27So, they've got a good pace.
13:29And, we'll let these race out and battle out between the brothers.
13:31Still a long way to go.
13:34Hunter Lawrence wants that first ever overall win.
13:39And, he's right at it.
13:40There's Jet Lawrence.
13:52One second gap over his brother.
13:54Whoever wins this moto wins the overall.
13:57Jet has won them all this year.
13:58He's won nearly all of them that he's ever raced in this class in pro motocross.
14:05But, today, maybe the strongest challenge yet from his brother.
14:08Yeah, and, when you're watching Hunter's bike, Hunter's bike looks better than Jet, to me.
14:13Hunter's able to kind of go in these insides.
14:15If you're watching Jet Lawrence, like, he's going towards the outside.
14:19It feels like he has to hit these burns.
14:20Where Hunter's able to go down that hard, slippery spot.
14:24And, you're seeing Jet losing the front end, losing the rear end, where Hunter Lawrence seems like he can kind of go where he wants.
14:29So, to me, the bike setup's a little bit different.
14:31It looks a lot better and easier to ride for the 96th than it is, Jet.
14:35We'll see how it plays out for the rest of the race.
14:37Hunter had two laps in the 156s that were quicker than Jet.
14:40Then, Jet goes 156 to reestablish that gap.
14:44Get it back.
14:45It's one second.
14:46And, now, it's 1.8.
14:48Critical juncture here.
14:50Can the 96 reel it back in?
14:52He's trying.
14:52Yeah, like, even through there, Hunter's bike's a lot more calmer than Jet.
15:03I do believe Jet is faster, and if he has a clean lap, he'll pull away from Hunter.
15:08But, overall, Hunter can stay there because his motorcycle looks a little bit better to me.
15:18Halfway through, final race of the day at Millville.
15:20Reminder that Monster Energy is available at Quick Trip.
15:26Who's going to win it?
15:41Last sector a little bit to the good for the 18th.
15:47Yeah, but this line right there, Hunter is able to go back inside.
15:50And, he's actually making some time up.
15:52Jet seems like he has to funnel out to the outside.
15:54And, even going down the hill, you see how much time Hunter is able to close in on these, you know, sweeping parts of the corners.
16:02I think Hunter has the better line going down Mount Marvin because it looks like he's slowing down
16:06and almost picking the front wheel up and wheeling over those bumps instead of charging down it like Jet.
16:11And, you can see a lot of feedback into it, but that's the luxury that Hunter has because he's watching Jet and he's able to react off of what he's doing.
16:19And, you can see Jet is watching his front end.
16:20Barsha and Guillaume battling for six in that bottom box.
16:23If you're wondering why the gap that you see there on the left side of the screen hasn't changed, it's because Jet and Hunter had identical lap times down to the 10th.
16:331-57-0 for both the last time around.
16:38Battle of wheels now between the brothers as Barsha making his way against Guillaume.
16:45Yeah, you can see Jet is watching his front end.
16:48It looks a little bit taller, taller than Hunter, a little bit busier, but the problem is he's figuring out how to run and pull it away as we say that, JT.
16:58Just watching this battle on the bottom box, Joe James, and this is another classic Guillaume-Barsha battle that we've had over the years.
17:06Oh, yeah.
17:07The one thing I would say for Guillaume is I hope he has some sort of hazard insurance because if he tries to pass Barsha on the outside, there's going to be a lot of red applied to that blue motorcycle.
17:16I'm sure Guillaume knows that, but Barsha has not been in the mood to play around.
17:19We saw how aggressive he was with Prado earlier.
17:22Well, he's going to try it here.
17:24Oh, Barsha went over the berm to try to stop him.
17:26Guillaume with knives underneath.
17:28And he's going to go away quickly.
17:31Barsha went off the track to try to stop him.
17:33That's how much he cared.
17:33He don't like to be passed, so, but the problem is, Guillaume better get away because Barsha got to relapse here in a little bit.
17:40He can't go and let that happen.
17:42And we got Cody Schock in the middle saying, look, man, I'm innocent.
17:45Yeah, Cody's like, I ain't trying to, I'm just here to run, man.
17:48I'm just trying to do it.
17:49Please leave me alone out here.
17:51Here's Barsha on the outside.
17:53As you watch Jet maintain that exact gap over Hunter.
17:58Now in a lot of traffic.
18:00Pecchio running sixth right now.
18:03He need to be running away.
18:05He's scared.
18:07Get away, Sambaccia.
18:09Forget Sambaccia.
18:10He's got all the motivation in the world to keep charging.
18:14Hampshire fourth, sixth, and third.
18:16They've all been dropped by the Lourences.
18:18Champ was able to put three tents into Hunter the last time around.
18:23Were you theorizing that he's actually figuring the motorcycle out?
18:27Yeah, well, he's learning to ride it.
18:31So, you know, these lap riders are making it difficult.
18:34But, yeah, the 18 is figuring it out.
18:36But Hunter Lawrence is still there.
18:37Yep.
18:37Even through lap traffic matching each other.
18:39Okay, settle in for the final ten minutes and two laps.
18:47Lawrence Brothers battling Ford at Spring Creek.
18:582.1, they got it.
19:00So, when you're watching Jet's motorcycle right now, if you look at his front end, it looks really busy to me.
19:07And when I was saying he's starting to figure out how to ride it, what I'm noticing is he's starting to pick the front end up in these corners.
19:13Anytime he's on the lane, instead of having the front tire on the ground, he's starting to lean back and really to keep that front tire off.
19:19Because right now, it's really busy for him, and he's almost losing the front end because of that.
19:24Where I watch Hunter, Hunter is able to drive the front end, which is allowing him to be able to go to the insides and out.
19:30And so, to me, Hunter, as he's charging down that hill, his bike looks a little bit more comfortable.
19:35But Jet will figure this out.
19:37And it's going to be important for Hunter to put the pressure on him because Jet has his gap.
19:42He's able to figure that bike out because of the lines.
19:44If Hunter puts that pressure on him, then Jet won't have that luxury.
19:49I go all the way back to High Point in the 250 class a couple years ago.
19:53The first real great battle we saw between the brothers and Hunter said it's like the Velociraptor in Jurassic Park.
19:59Just keeps learning new skills.
20:01He'll learn from me.
20:01I'll learn from him.
20:02They get faster and faster as the race goes on.
20:05Back to Katie.
20:06Yeah, and one of the things I'd like to talk about is going back just last week to the Red Dead and how important it was for Jet to get that win.
20:13He had mentioned he rode his heart out to get that win under his belt.
20:16And his motivation was himself, his family, and the team.
20:19Also, the head guy from Honda HRC, Mr. Ishikawa, was at Redbud.
20:25And he was telling me how important it really is to have the support and trust of Honda.
20:30He said, look, with them coming to these races, them seeing these results, whether it be me or with Hunter, with Joe,
20:36it's so important that they see that because we need to continue building the trust.
20:41We might be winning championships, and they might see that, but to experience the wins, to be a part of it,
20:47that's really how that trust with the team itself is being built.
20:50Okay.
20:51What I would think the takeaway would be, yes, you can see the results.
20:54The president of Honda HRC visiting from Japan last weekend.
20:57He can check the results on Saturday night, but it's so loose in that pit.
21:04You would never think it is the way it is.
21:06It is so serious.
21:08We're down to hundreds for a second right now.
21:10These two try to outfox each other.
21:12But when you see them all weekend long, just like the family cookout.
21:15Yeah, no, it's really cool.
21:18You come up close and personal, and that's why you have a chance to get to these races.
21:22Like, yeah, you see it on TV, but being here, it's just a different experience,
21:26and he was able to watch that and watch the intensity on these guys,
21:30and even the reaction with the fans, how they are with their fans and stuff.
21:34Really cool to see.
21:35And for whatever reason, the ball showed up.
21:37Joe got it done.
21:38They got it done.
21:40It's a great weekend last weekend for Honda.
21:42It slipped away in the 250 class today.
21:45It could have been Shimoda's.
21:47It's just a matter now of which Honda wins Spring Creek in the 450s.
21:52I cannot believe how well Hunter Lawrence is riding.
21:56Every time I see him, I'm impressed, yet not able to make it happen.
22:02It's got to get frustrating.
22:03He always denies that.
22:05We know that he doesn't ride on the emotion, but, man, is he riding well today.
22:09And now we've got 2.4 seconds.
22:11Yeah, and it probably is a little bit of form,
22:13because Jeff's right there, and Hunter is riding really good.
22:17And you can see, you know, he knows that he's maybe struggling with the bike a little bit.
22:21But, again, Hunter's opportunity is right now.
22:25He cannot let his brother have any bigger gap than he has, but it's going to be tough.
22:29Yeah, and you've got to get through some traffic.
22:32That did not help.
22:332.6 seconds to gap.
22:34No, seven minutes and two laps to go.
22:37A couple other battles we're going to keep you on top of.
22:40Barsha and Shock.
22:43Guillaume still just ahead.
22:47Sixth, seventh, eight.
22:50Yeah, Guillaume's running.
22:51He, he, he, he, he here.
22:53You know, Barsha doesn't, he doesn't forget anything.
22:56So, a good route by Cody to get up here in the middle, having a strong performance.
23:02Seventh.
23:02.
23:04.
23:06.
23:10.
23:14.
23:18.
23:20.
23:24.
23:28.
23:30.
23:51Checking in with the leader here, Pro Motocross from Minnesota, and just starting to inch
24:04away now down the stretch, Jett Lawrence, 3.3 seconds to gap now, is 9 tenths of a second
24:13quicker than Hunter the last time around, starting to get it back under control.
24:21Yeah, looks good. Yeah, you can see his lines. He's just figuring it out. Those mistakes
24:27are being less and less, and you know, again, you're watching him. He's banking off the
24:33corners, being a little bit patient, and because Hunter's not right on him, is allowing him
24:37to do that. There's Hunter. There's that gap bigger than it was. He's riding so well, and
24:45really would be a great story. The 2023 250 champ, how well he rode last year, battling
24:50Sexton for this title, nearly winning the SMX World Championship, tying for it, and then
24:55riding so well this year, but everything's overshadowed by the record of Jett Lawrence.
24:59Let's go back to Chase Sexton, now 21 seconds back in third, but still a step. It'd be a
25:04podium, and his return last week didn't get on the box. That's a little better for the
25:09Red Bull KTM men. Watch that catapult there. Yeah. Yeah, I don't think the gap is 23 seconds
25:16slower. I think Chase lost that toe. I mean, he doesn't have the pace, but he's doing what
25:21he said he was going to do. He's not going to override it, and he knows he's not ready
25:25to go at this level, like, then finish his third place, so he'll get better and better,
25:30but there will be certain tracks that he'll ride better, and certain tracks he'll have
25:34days like this. Another good day for RJ Hefshire, looking for fourth overall if it ends like
25:40this, and running fourth in this moto. Great story here with RJ the long time wild man of
25:47the 250 class showing he could tame the 450. Probably smoother on this bike. Yeah, he
25:53definitely is. This is becoming the norm for RJ, so good job for him, and good to see the
25:59Husqvarna team get some of these top fives, and even Jorge Prada. Hanging in there. Yeah, he's
26:04hanging in there. I mean, as I said, it's very difficult. This is a win to me for him to
26:09be able to just keep that gap. You know, I know he wants to be farther and farther, but
26:13it was a lot better than that first moto, and he's showing that little bit of fight, so
26:16maybe he made some changes to the bike. That looked good. Let's go back to six. JT. Well,
26:24the 992 is going to be coming down that hill here in a second, and Valentin Guillaude, he has
26:29to be ecstatic with this sixth-place ride. He can look up and see the two-time MXGP
26:34champ in front of him, and guys, I don't think he's ever been this close this late
26:38in a moto to Jorge Prado and his wife coming in here, so this is a great ride, and
26:42he, remember this, he moves forward. He passed through the lengths of Shock and Barsha to
26:46get here. I cannot say enough about the effort from Yamaha here.
26:50Big career best in the brief career in America for Guillaude. He said he'd like to
26:54race SMX playoffs if he can get in, and scoring a lot of points like that, maybe he will.
26:58Then back to this journey of Justin Barsha. Is he ahead of Shock now? Yes, he is.
27:04Yeah, Guillaude can thank Barsha for keeping him up because he's got to stay on it.
27:10And now my brother has made his way around Cody Shock. Two lap riders all around him.
27:17Malcolm is, well, Malcolm in the middle with the lap riders there, and then Shock's
27:22going to follow in behind him on that blue Yamaha. There he is. Oh, got blocked by another lapper.
27:28Hey, Malcolm's riding pretty well today. I know you're not easy to impress, especially when you're
27:31your little bro. How do you feel? All right? I'm actually really impressed because I know a lot more
27:36about what's going on than most, and he looks a lot more comfortable on the bike, and that's a good sign.
27:41This track's just difficult, and he's holding off the number three in Corolli there, so Katie?
27:49Well, moving on down to the number three of Eli Tomek. Josh Ellings and his mechanic just put on the pit board.
27:56Keep pushing, so they're not giving him any indication that there's anything wrong.
27:59This is a bit of surprise to see Eli Tomek running in 10th.
28:02One thing to note about Eli Tomek, kind of mentioning what we did with Cody Shock.
28:07We think Eli Tomek has been to all these races, yes, and he knows these tracks. He's even won here.
28:12But in talking to his team, you guys, we have to remember, he hasn't raced here since 2022,
28:17and there's been a whole lot of life, a couple of injuries, a little this and that that he's been working on
28:23since he's been here again. So he does have to relearn some things.
28:26He's not just going out there running and gunning like we know the former Eli did.
28:30It's kind of a different Eli now at this point in time.
28:35I struggle with Eli Tomek here. He's straight up not having a good time out there.
28:40I'm going to be straight honest with you on that.
28:43I think something's up with Eli, whether he's battling energy, whether he's battling some sort of injury.
28:48There's something going on because less than a month ago, this guy was winning motos,
28:52and now he's a minute off the lead, maybe more.
28:56There's something going on with Eli Tomek. I can't put my finger on it,
28:59but this is not the Eli Tomek. Forget about years prior, this season that we saw.
29:06And he's looking to make a move on Shock, a mistake. Shock holds him off. Battle continues.
29:11So JT there theorizing on Tomek, and this is the mind over matter thing as we go back to the leader, Lawrence.
29:24Do you think it's a physical thing maybe for Eli we just don't know about?
29:29Or again, is it that mental frustration kicks in when you know you can win races and suddenly that's slipping away?
29:35Yeah, I mean, I don't know exactly 100% what's going on Eli.
29:39Like I'm not talking to him. This is speculation, but I can tell by the way he's rotting.
29:43And the reason I don't feel like it's physical because of what you're watching right here.
29:47You know, we've seen him like he's super strong. I mean, even at the race that he went down to at Hangtown when he was going up.
29:55Like it's not a condition thing. Eli's always been in shape. The way he has these bursts of speed tells me that it's not physical.
30:03But again, I just go back to his body language when he gets past, there's really not a lot of fight for.
30:10And it's not because he doesn't care. He doesn't try. He just wants to be battling for wins.
30:16If you would have told Eli, hey, you're going to come this outdoor season, but you're going to be riding in ninth place.
30:21I guarantee he wouldn't have came. You know, he came out here thinking that, hey, there's going to be troubles.
30:26Like, yeah, I haven't raced in a while, but I feel like I'm good enough.
30:29The bike's good enough that I can compete to win. And as I get my feet under me, I'll be up here.
30:34Well, that's going the other way now. And then so you're just watching a rider deal with a situation that he's never been in.
30:41And it's it's a lot to deal with. So if you've never been at the top level and been where Eli is, it is hard to explain.
30:48And people just think it's him just not caring and giving up. It's the opposite of that because he wants to win.
30:54It is just hard for a guy to go out there and just compete for a 10th place when he knows he has the talent and team to win these races.
31:00Hey, JT, I'll swing it back to you on Prado. That was the thing you kept telling us in the preseason.
31:04Jorge Prado, for example, similar to Eli Tomac, has never not been up front in his entire life.
31:11And that's really the same thing with Tomac. And you were saying that you got to understand Prado's situation.
31:16Yeah, there's something there's something about learning how to lose.
31:20Yeah, I don't think anybody wants to learn how to lose. It's not ideal.
31:24But you have to be able to process it and mentally regroup and go back at it.
31:28And, you know, I agree with what James said about Eli. I don't know that it's physical.
31:32He looks strong on the motorcycle, but there's just a lack of fight here going on with him that I've never seen Eli Tomac have outside of a few weird races in his life.
31:41So, you know, to be honest with you, I would bet he doesn't exactly know what's going on right now.
31:47If he does, he's probably not talking about it. These guys are proud.
31:51Back to this. Shock now in a battle with Corolli on that Ducati.
31:56Corolli digging deep here. A battle for 10th. That's right where he wanted to be.
32:03Yeah.
32:05Jett Lawrence putting it together down the stretch.
32:13About 25 minutes of fire that he had to deal with from his brother and his teammate.
32:20But able to master it down in the final few.
32:22Yeah, and Jett's been one of the best riders since he's been in this 450 class.
32:28I mean his whole career at adjusting and we saw his teammate in the 250 class Joe Shimoda figuring out how to ride the motorcycle without a rear brake.
32:36Or Jett figured out how to ride around these issues of his bike.
32:40And it looks good. It's not like it's bad.
32:43But where he was in the level compared to Hunter, his bike was definitely struggling in the front end.
32:49And Jett figured out. I saw his lines change. I saw how he was attacking the racetrack.
32:53And it just shows whoever can adjust the best can get it done.
32:57And Hunter had him on the ropes, but he let him off.
33:00Here's Tony Corolli making a move at this battle for 10th.
33:03Cody Shock on the inside of 37.
33:08Corolli on the left on that Ducati.
33:11Gets up the inside of Cody right here.
33:18And this is Tony's first time coming to this racetrack.
33:21I was talking to him yesterday and he was surprised how hard the track was, the hard base.
33:26And I was like, man, unfortunately I think it's going to be like that tomorrow.
33:30So you're going to have to like deal with it.
33:31But he did a good job after recovering, not going down hard that first moto, still fighting.
33:38Every lap on this Ducati is only going to help him and just get more knowledge on that.
33:42So Tony and Nettner are doing a good job.
33:45Taking the data as for Chet.
33:47He holds on to win this overall time.
33:50Ken Rockson, who's actually here today, the two-time champion in the series for career overall wins.
33:55And it will be 21 wins in 22 starts in 450 pro motocross for Chet.
34:01Can you say that stat again?
34:03Yeah, I need to because I don't know if we can believe it.
34:06So if I say it twice, as they say, get two sources, go to print with it.
34:1121 out of 22 in his career.
34:14Yeah, that's unbelievable.
34:16When we got to 18 out of 19, I didn't even realize that it was that much.
34:20And the reason because of that, because everybody seemed like they were that close.
34:24Like, you know, look, man, that, yeah, every weekend we were talking.
34:27Oh, man, if he could just get a better start, they were there.
34:30And this guy was winning.
34:31But he was winning by these small margins.
34:33Well, now that's changed.
34:35It's changing.
34:36And it's been ever since Southwick, he's looked like a whole different rider.
34:40And that confidence is growing.
34:41And I believe because of Southwick, because of last weekend,
34:44allows him to have the confidence to go to hold off his brother because Hunter was fast.
34:49Hunter was best that he maybe ever looked on the 450.
34:52But Jet was able to ride around and overcome the difficult struggles that he was having on a motorcycle
34:58and get another victory.
35:00And it's going to be demoralizing for all these guys outside of Hunter Lawrence
35:05because he'll be happy for him.
35:06But it's a big win for the 18 and the Honda.
35:08And it just shows you how much work they put in.
35:11It's showing on the racetrack.
35:13He just keeps getting better.
35:14Heard him on the JVAC show this week.
35:16Talk about he reads a book, 20 minutes of reading every morning.
35:20That's something he learned.
35:22He feels like it puts his mind in the right space to get his words and his thoughts organized
35:26and just always taking little steps to try to improve.
35:30You're going to show up at the riders meeting.
35:31You're going to see all these riders with books in their hands.
35:33Shoot, is that guy out?
35:35Give me that book.
35:36I want it.
35:37Yeah.
35:38Yeah.
35:39Raise the price on that one because it's valuable.
35:43Helps you make money like this.
35:45The big bonuses.
35:46Probably about 100 grand for the win from Honda.
35:48And it's still undefeated overall this year.
35:52Shep Lawrence wins Spring Creek.
35:55And Hunter gave it everything he had.
36:01Second again.
36:02Four in a row.
36:03Good route by Hunter Lawrence.
36:04Oh yeah.
36:05Yeah.
36:06Jake Sexton.
36:07Go back to work next week.
36:08Should be a little bit better for him and the bike.
36:10We know how difficult Washougal is.
36:11It's a whole different racetrack.
36:12And they're going to have to figure some things out.
36:13I do feel like Sexton a little more aggressive at the beginning of the moto.
36:14That was the goal.
36:15And it was a better beginning.
36:16Yeah, no, he's a little bit more aggressive, but he knows like he's just not there to go to carry that intensity.
36:32Whether it's him, bike, they're just not on that level right now.
36:37So did a good job at getting third place.
36:40But Chase knows he's got to work on some things that gaps a lot closer than that 42 seconds that we're watching.
36:45And there it is last year's champ across the line.
36:48Second race back with the third overall.
36:52And the road continues for the Lawrence camp.
36:58It's their favorite tent.
37:00The one right behind the podium.
37:02The one right behind the podium.
