00:00Lawrence Brothers starting to pull away from the rest of the field in this championship.
00:03We'll see if someone can challenge them.
00:05Will it come down to the brothers again?
00:08Just saw a storybook ending in the 250 class.
00:12Is there more emotion in the offing here in Minnesota?
00:22Let's get nervous, Todd.
00:24That's the fly racing 30-second card is up.
00:3040 riders on the gate.
00:33They'll race for 30 minutes and two laps.
00:37Hunter choosing a little outside of Jet, but he does have that starter's box next to him.
00:44If he gets the jump, he'll have a better angle.
00:47Here it is.
00:48Rebs are up.
00:51Gates to Ellen.
00:55And Jet rockets to the lead.
00:56He's got Jorge Prado on his hip.
00:58Cody Schock around the outside.
01:00But Jet Lawrence to the lead.
01:02And Hunter up to second.
01:04Carmen got here that first moto.
01:06And you know Jet Lawrence probably is not going to make that same mistake.
01:10And he knows how good Hunter's been riding all day.
01:12But perfect start by the 18 to get out to this moto.
01:17Schock challenging Hunter.
01:18Look at Cody go here on the Munkoff Epic Start Club of X in Yamaha.
01:25Not enough.
01:26Lawrence Brothers 1-2 again.
01:28Ooh, that was close by Hunter.
01:30They put a little bit of water down just like they did.
01:32Track's going to be a little slippery.
01:33But you can see how aggressive Jet is already trying to get away and see if he can end this race pretty early.
01:38But that's going to be hard with Hunter Lawrence and how good he's riding.
01:41Looks like Chase Sexton has made his way up into third place now.
01:45Nice scrub past Cody Schock.
01:47Now, just like last weekend, Sekimoto was a lot better for Chase Sexton.
01:52Let's see if he can repeat that and get on Jet because Jet's already starting to get away.
01:57He's going to have his hands full.
01:58Well, Katie mentioned that KTM team, they wanted Chase to be more aggressive.
02:01Well, he goes by Prado and Schock in quick fashion, and he's here to challenge those Hondas.
02:11Mal Martin, 500 feet just about, top to bottom.
02:16And remember, you saw Sexton and Hunter Lawrence battle a ton last year for this championship.
02:21Jet was out injured.
02:23So Sexton has to pedigree to roam with him.
02:26There is Prado.
02:27Yeah, no, Chase clearly does, but this is the part where you haven't been racing that lack, that intensity.
02:34That's what you can't replicate as Jorge Prado goes up to inside of Cody Schock.
02:38Now, with Jorge, it's all been really a lot of mental stuff for him.
02:43So he's going to have to remember who he is.
02:47Otherwise, it's going to be a long moto for him.
02:48But the same thing he did in the earlier part of the first moto, he's got to finish it off.
02:53Yeah, opening laps have been good for Prado the last couple of weeks.
02:55You can see Justin Barsha come flying in there, sixth on the rock start.
02:59Gas, gas.
03:02Shock and Prado going at it.
03:04They ride together at Club MX, actually, during the week, even though they're not on the same team.
03:08Prado is using that South Carolina facility to ride and test, get used to American style.
03:13I don't see weather and tracks.
03:16Good battle here.
03:17Yeah, you can see how Jorge ran it in that corner.
03:20That's a little bit of frustration because that's one of those things that you know you're not going to be able to pass.
03:23But, you know, him, Cody did a great pass going around the outside of him.
03:28Probably a little frustrating.
03:29Now, this is where Jorge has been struggling.
03:31Once he starts getting the pass, it just seems like he keeps going the other way.
03:35So let's see a little bit of fight for him.
03:38Jorge is doing all that he can to get around shock.
03:41And, of course, we know this is the same old story.
03:43Each weekend, there is always a direct battle happening with Jorge Prado.
03:47In fact, between those two motos, they did make some adjustments, suspension adjustments.
03:52He was not happy with how the bike was working in that first moto.
03:56The team also continued to say he has a good start.
03:58We just now got to make sure that he gets comfortable on the bike.
04:01And that is the same story that we're hearing for Jorge Prado here this season.
04:03Thanks, Cain.
04:05Look at Barsha come flying down that hill and take the measure of shock.
04:10I've been impressed with Barsha coming back from injury here and riding well.
04:15Catch Eli Tomac.
04:17He's at 11.
04:17He's under fire from Tony Corolli.
04:19So not what you expect from the four-time 450 motocross channel.
04:24See if they can move forward.
04:25Jason, can you look at that lap time that Jet just ran?
04:29A 1.54.
04:31What?
04:32I don't even know if I want to see it.
04:33Yes.
04:34I mean, it's impressive that Hunter at that time is accurate, him closing that gap down.
04:40But wait a minute.
04:42Well, just as quickly as we're singing the praise to the 18.
04:4596 closing back up on his little bro.
04:47Yeah.
04:48I mean, Hunter must have had a good lap.
04:50But yeah, Jet went back to a 1.58.
04:52Yeah, I don't know if I've ever seen that that early.
04:57Four seconds different between the opening lap.
04:59So was that a mistake by Jet to drop off or Hunter is picking it up?
05:04But nonetheless, this is what Hunter needed to do because Jet, by running that lap time and how aggressive he was,
05:09it looks like he was trying to put it into that streak early and maybe put Hunter before he's just got to settle for a second by getting away with him.
05:15But Hunter's doing a good job staying there.
05:18And then you got the number one lurking about three seconds behind him.
05:22I was going to say, that's the litmus test.
05:24You know Hunter's still on the gas.
05:25He's pulled away just a little bit from Sexton there in third.
05:28Yeah, I'm thinking that time on that beginning.
05:33I don't know if that was accurate because that's pretty fast.
05:38But who knows?
05:39The guy's that good.
05:40I don't know if he's that good.
05:42But nonetheless, good to see Hunter Lawrence staying with him because this is what he needed to do.
05:47And I do believe Chase Sexton's got to do everything he can.
05:51If he wants to have a shot at winning this race, if he's within a few seconds by halfway, then he'll have a shot.
05:57But the problem has been those guys have been a little quicker than him all day long.
06:01And if he loses a toe, it's going to be hard to catch him as we've seen happen at first moto.
06:06So Prado is taking control of fourth from Schock, who's now under pressure from Hampshire.
06:13Hampshire on the right.
06:14On the white, Rockstar has Florida.
06:18Hampshire jumping up to the top.
06:20Right there with Schock now.
06:22Yeah, let's see what RJ does.
06:24I mean, this guy's becoming a top five specialist.
06:26You know, week in and week out, Moto Moto.
06:28So he's gaining confidence as he goes past Cody Schock around the outside.
06:33Cody, line on the inside, works out for him.
06:36Nice move by Cody.
06:37He thought RJ was going to have it, but Cody's putting up a fight.
06:40But RJ should have him right here.
06:42Nice little scrub.
06:42He'll have the inside in this next corner.
06:47And finishes the pass.
06:50Good job by Hebshire.
06:52It's been rock solid.
06:54Jumping up to the 450 for the first time here in Pro Motocross.
06:58This season, Schock has been feisty today, though.
07:01Yeah, Cody's been running really good.
07:03I mean, he's another guy who's moved up to the 450 class.
07:06So he's learning his bike, you know, learning the way these tracks are on a 450.
07:10So not surprising he's getting better and what a start can do for all these guys.
07:14But RJ has been really consistent.
07:17I say by him, almost losing a front end right there.
07:19But he's been consistent these last few races being that top five guy.
07:23See what happens.
07:24Katie?
07:24Yeah, one of the things the team said in between Moto One and now is that RJ really needed to focus on his speed right after the start in those first couple of laps.
07:34Obviously, we're seeing him get around Cody.
07:36The other thing that you shared with me was that he's connecting more with the bike than they have ever seen.
07:42And he doesn't need to override it.
07:44Sue, how important on a track like this, with the conditions that it's in, is it to not override the bike?
07:49It's really, really important.
07:52So it's kind of a catch-22.
07:54The team's telling you you need to be faster in the opening part of the races and ride.
07:58But that kind of says you've got to override the motorcycle a little bit to be comfortable.
08:02Because it's one of those things that it's more of a mindset and just have to practice and over and over.
08:07It's not easy picking it up.
08:09And that's the Jett Lawrence effect.
08:11He's making all these guys here at Permanenteem where you've got to be quicker in the opening part of the races.
08:16Well, how good does 18 have been?
08:18It doesn't really matter when they're quick.
08:19They're just not quick enough.
08:20But it's good to see RJ out here.
08:23Now, good to see Eli Tomek moving forward because we really wasn't sure what happened that first moto and then a bad start.
08:30It's going to be a tough day for Eli, but good to see him with a little fight.
08:34Yeah, he's starting to put it together, pulling away from Corolli a bit.
08:36He just passed your brother Malcolm Stewart there down to the bottom of the hill.
08:41And he has Justin Cooper and Barsha right ahead of him.
08:45Yeah, it looks like Tony Corolli is still following Eli up to...
08:48Oh, no, wait, Malcolm coming back!
08:50Look at that!
08:55He knows we're watching.
08:56He knows we're watching.
08:57Throw that fishing hook.
08:58Hook into him, so...
09:01It's not what we expect from Eli Tomek.
09:03Again, the four-time chap struggles in moto one.
09:07And he and I had a real conversation even during the break about him and Prado.
09:10Riders who are used to winning.
09:12And you talk so much about the mental side and what happens when you're mired back here.
09:16Yeah, and you see it.
09:18I mean, Eli, clearly, he has his speed.
09:20He has these bursts of speed.
09:22But it just seems like when things are going wrong, there's really not a lot of fight.
09:27And it's not because he doesn't try, but it's because the championship's gone.
09:31Eli wants to be battling with Jet Lawrence.
09:33And when you're Jorge Prado and Eli Tomek, when they're all about winning championships, when you can't do that, people don't understand how hard it is for these guys to go out here racing.
09:43And they think they're either tired or quitting.
09:46It's a mental battle that is so difficult to deal with.
09:50And I went through that.
09:51It took me a couple years to go through that fact to get my confidence.
09:54And so what you're seeing is a rider who expects to be up front, who's not up front, who doesn't care about being intent.
10:00And that's hard.
10:01It's been tough today on Tomek as Jet Lawrence continues to lead.
10:07Hunter Lawrence, he's applying serious pressure.
10:17Jet almost threw it away on the downside of Mount Martin.
10:22Hunter is right there.
10:24Yeah, you saw that too.
10:25And that's 100%.
10:26That is from Hunter Lawrence, you know, putting that pressure on him.
10:31Jet's charging on that.
10:32He only probably missed his spot by an inch and ended up going, almost going down right there.
10:36So JT, he's putting that pressure on the A-team.
10:39He's trying to, James.
10:41But, you know, we're in that zone here where we always feel like Jet's going to be nervous.
10:46Jet's going to feel the pressure.
10:47There's somebody sitting on his rear wheel.
10:49And it just doesn't seem like that ever equates anything to Jet.
10:52And I just wonder, is it a more comfortable feeling because it's his big brother sitting there?
10:58Or is it less comfortable because he knows how well Hunter's been riding all day?
11:02What do you think, James?
11:03From looking at the mistakes, I would say it's more uncomfortable because of how good the 96 is riding.
11:12And he knows how strong he is because he rides one of every day.
11:14So the way today is going, it's not like the normal thing where, hey, he'll just eventually get this.
11:20We saw him make a few mistakes going down the hill, made another one.
11:23And, yeah, he's got his hands full with the 96, giving him confidence.
11:27And towing along Chase Sexton as well as RJ gets around Jorge.
11:31Jorge cooking around the outside.
11:33Hampshire with the pass change.
11:35Yeah, no, RJ has been making some strong passes for him.
11:38So he makes his way up into fourth place where he finished that first moto.
11:41And this is where Jorge has been struggling at this year, like we mentioned.
11:47Once he gets past, you can see that gap.
11:49And it's a tough position to be in because, again, he wants to be on the podium.
11:54He does not want to be going backwards.
11:56And it's a fine line between getting good starts.
11:58And when you're Jorge Prada, Eli Tomac, a good start could be the worst thing for you
12:04because if you start going the wrong way, it just ruins your confidence.
12:07And so you're better off just getting a 10th place start and finishing 12th
12:11than getting a good start and end up 10th.
12:13And I think that's what we see with Jorge and even Eli, that first moto,
12:16where they're up front and the next thing you know they're battling for 15th.
12:20And it ain't because they're quitting.
12:22It's just a hard thing like I mentioned earlier.
12:24Yeah, and you also don't think it's fitness.
12:26It's going to look to the layman that Prada is just not fit enough to maintain the pace.
12:32You think it's almost more mental?
12:33Yeah, I would bet my life that it's more mental because it's not like if it was fitness,
12:40you know, he would be going super fast and then all of a sudden he would just kind of drop off.
12:44Right now, you can see it in his body language.
12:46It looks the same to people on the outside, but this is a mental battle right here, Jorge.
12:51And it's not surprising as Hunter Lawrence is closing in on his brother.
12:54It's not surprising that it's only getting worse, and it's a tough position for him to be in.
12:59But I know Jorge, he is trying.
13:01The Kawasaki team is trying.
13:03It's frustrating for all those guys.
13:05But this is a battle that Jorge has never experienced, and he's dealing with it right now.
13:08I'll tell you who's trying.
13:10Jet Lawrence is trying.
13:10This is not, to my eye, maintaining a comfortable gap.
13:14He is hauling the mail and cannot get away.
13:17Yeah, he is.
13:19And to me, when I'm watching Hunter, we haven't showed him a lot, but he looks a little bit more comfortable than Jet, you know, being behind him.
13:25And if Jet doesn't know, he didn't see Hunter that first moto because he went down and Hunter had such a gap.
13:29So he doesn't know his lines where Hunter's learning where Jet is really strong.
13:33And Jet wasn't able to get away from him, which only gave him confidence.
13:38But at the same time, I do feel like these brothers are secretly working together.
13:42Their whole goal is to drop that number one and three.
13:46So I don't think Hunter's going to do anything to really slow that pace down because he didn't want to bring the number one back into it.
13:52So they've got a good pace, and we'll let these races battle out between the brothers.
13:56Still a long way to go.
13:57Hunter Lawrence wants that first-ever overall win.
14:03And he's right at it.
14:14There's Jet Lawrence.
14:16One second gap over his brother.
14:18Whoever wins this moto wins the overall.
14:21Jet has won them all this year.
14:23He's won nearly all of them that he's ever raced.
14:25First in this class in ProMotoCross.
14:29But today may be the strongest challenge yet from his brother.
14:32Yeah, and when you're watching Hunter's bike, Hunter's bike looks better than Jet to me.
14:37Hunter's able to kind of go on these insides.
14:39If you're watching Jet Lawrence, like he's going towards the outside.
14:43It feels like he has to hit these burn for her.
14:45Hunter's able to go down that hard, slippery spot.
14:48And you're seeing Jet losing the front end, losing the rear end, where Hunter Lawrence seems like he can kind of go where he wants.
14:54So to me, the bike setup's a little bit different.
14:56It looks a lot better and easier to ride for the 96 than it is, Jet.
14:59We'll see how it plays out for the rest of the race.
15:01Hunter had two laps of the 156s that were quicker than Jet.
15:05Then Jet goes 156 to reestablish that gap.
15:08Get it back.
15:10It's one second, and now it's 1.8.
15:12Critical juncture here.
15:14Can the 96 reel it back in?
15:16He's trying.
15:22Yeah, like even through there, Hunter's bike's a lot more calmer than Jet.
15:27I do believe Jet is faster, and if he has a clean lap, he'll pull away from Hunter.
15:33But overall, Hunter can stay there because his motorcycle looks a little bit better to me.
15:42Halfway through, final race of the day at Millville.
15:46Reminder that Monster Energy is available at Quick Trip.
15:50Who's going to win it?
16:06Last sector a little bit to the good for the 18.
16:12Yeah, but this line right there, Hunter's able to go to that inside, and he's actually making some time up.
16:16Jet seems like he has to funnel out to the outside.
16:19And even going down the hill, you see how much time Hunter's able to close in on these sweeping parts of the corners.
16:27I think Hunter has the better line going down Mount Martin because it looks like he's slowing down
16:31and almost picking the front wheel up and wheeling over those bumps instead of charging down it like Jet.
16:36And you can see a lot of feedback into it, but that's the luxury that Hunter has because he's watching Jet,
16:41and he's able to react off of what he's doing.
16:43Barsha and Guillaume battling for six in that bottom box.
16:47If you're wondering why the gap that you see there on the left side of the screen hasn't changed,
16:52it's because Jet and Hunter had identical lap times down to the 10th.
16:581.57.0 for both the last time around.
17:02Battle of wheels now between the brothers as Barsha making his way against Guillaume.
17:07You can see Jet is watching his front end.
17:13It looks a little bit taller, taller than Hunter, a little bit busier,
17:17but the problem is he's figuring out how to ride and pull him away as we say that, JT.
17:23Just watching this battle on the bottom box, Joe James,
17:26and this is another classic Guillaume and Barsha battle that we've had over the years.
17:31Oh, yeah.
17:31The one thing I would say for Guillaume is I hope he has some sort of hazard insurance
17:34because if he tries to pass Barsha on the outside,
17:37there's going to be a lot of red applying to that blue motorcycle.
17:41I'm sure Guillaume knows that, but Barsha is not in the mood to play around.
17:44We saw how aggressive he was with Prado earlier.
17:46Well, he's going to try it here.
17:48Barsha went over the berm to try to stop him.
17:51Guillaume knifes underneath.
17:53And he's getting away quickly.
17:55Barsha went off the track to try to stop him.
17:57That's how much he cared.
17:58He don't like to be passed, so...
18:00But the problem is Guillaume better get away
18:02because Barsha got to relapse here in a little bit.
18:04He can't go and let that happen.
18:06And we got Cody Schock in the middle saying,
18:08look, man, I'm innocent.
18:09Yeah, Cody's like, I'm just here to run, man.
18:13I'm just trying to do it.
18:13Please leave me alone out here.
18:16There's Barsha on the outside.
18:18As you watch Jet maintain that exact gap over Hunter,
18:22now in a lot of traffic.
18:24Fecchio running sixth right now.
18:27He needs to be running away.
18:30You know, he's scared.
18:32Get away, Sabarsha forgets about you.
18:35He's got all the motivation in the world
18:36to keep charging Hampshire fourth, sexton third.
18:40They've all been dropped by the Lawrences.
18:43Champ was able to put three tents
18:45into Hunter the last time around.
18:48Were you theorizing that he's actually figuring the motorcycle out?
18:51Yeah, well, he's learning to ride it.
18:55So, you know, these lap riders are making it difficult,
18:59but, yeah, the 18's figuring it out.
19:00But Hunter Lawrence is still there.
19:01Yep.
19:02Even through-lap traffic matching each other.
19:07Okay.
19:08Settling in for the final ten minutes and two laps.
19:11Lawrence Brothers battling Ford at Spring Creek.
19:142.1, they got it.
19:26So, when you're watching Jet's motorcycle right now,
19:29if you look at his front end, it looks really busy to me.
19:31And when I was saying he's starting to figure out how to ride it,
19:34what I'm noticing is he's starting to pick the front end up
19:36in these corners.
19:37Anytime he's on the lane,
19:38instead of having the front tire on the ground,
19:40he's starting to lean back and really to keep that front tire off
19:44because right now it's really busy for him
19:45and he's almost losing the front end because of that.
19:48Where I watch Hunter, Hunter's able to drive the front end,
19:51which is allowing him to be able to go to the insides and out.
19:54And so, to me, Hunter, as he's charging down that hill,
19:58his bike looks a little bit more comfortable.
19:59But Jet will figure this out.
20:01And it's going to be important for Hunter to put the pressure on him
20:04because Jet has this gap.
20:06He's able to figure that bike out because of the lines.
20:09If Hunter puts that pressure on him,
20:10then Jet won't have that luxury.
20:14I go all the way back to High Point in the 250 class a couple years ago
20:17with the first real great battle we saw between the brothers.
20:20And Hunter said it's like the Velociraptor in Jurassic Park.
20:24He just keeps learning new skills.
20:25He'll learn from me.
20:26I'll learn from him.
20:26They get faster and faster as the race goes on.
20:30Back to Katie.
20:31Yeah, and one of the things I'd like to talk about
20:33is going back just last week to the Red Dead
20:34and how important it was for Jet to get that win.
20:37He had mentioned he rode his heart out to get that win under his belt.
20:41And his motivation was himself, his family, and the team.
20:44Also, the head guy from Honda HRC, Mr. Ishikawa, was at Red Buds.
20:50And he was telling me how important it really is
20:52to have the support and trust of Honda.
20:54He said, look, with them coming to these races,
20:57them seeing these results, whether it be me or with Hunter, with Joe,
21:01it's so important that they see that
21:03because we need to continue building the trust.
21:05We might be winning championships, and they might see that.
21:08But to experience the wins, to be a part of it,
21:11that's really how that trust with the team itself is being built.
21:15Well, Katie, what I would think the takeaway would be,
21:17yes, you can see the results.
21:18The president of Honda HRC visiting from Japan last weekend,
21:22he can check the results on Saturday night.
21:25But it's so loose in that pit.
21:28You would never think it is the way it is.
21:31It is so serious.
21:32We are down to hundreds of a second right now.
21:34These two trying to outbox each other.
21:36But when you see them all weekend long, just like the family cookout.
21:41Yeah, no, it's really cool.
21:42You come up close and personal,
21:44and that's why you have a chance to get to these races.
21:47Like, yeah, you see it on TV, but being here,
21:49it's just a different experience.
21:50And he was able to watch that and watch the intensity on these guys
21:54and even the reaction with the fans,
21:56how they are with their fans and stuff, really cool to see.
21:59And for whatever reason, the ball showed up.
22:01Joe got it done.
22:02They got it done.
22:05It was a great weekend last weekend for Honda.
22:07It slipped away in the 250 class today.
22:09It could have been Shimoda's.
22:11It's just a matter now of which Honda wins Spring Creek in the 450s.
22:17I cannot believe how well Hunter Lawrence is riding.
22:20Every time I see him, I'm impressed.
22:22Yet, not able to make it happen.
22:24It's got to get frustrating.
22:28He always denies that.
22:29We know that he doesn't ride on the emotion,
22:32but, man, is he riding well today.
22:33And now we've got 2.4 seconds.
22:35Yeah, and it probably is a little bit for him because Jeff's right there,
22:39and Hunter is riding really good.
22:41And you can see, you know, he knows that he's maybe struggling with the bike a little bit.
22:46But, again, Hunter's opportunity is right now.
22:49He cannot let his brother have any bigger gap than he has, but it's going to be tough.
22:53Yeah, and you've got to get through some traffic.
22:56That did not help.
22:572.6 seconds to gap.
22:58No.
22:59Seven minutes and two laps to go.
23:01A couple other battles we're going to keep you on top of.
23:05Barsha and Shock.
23:08Giyo still just ahead.
23:11Sixth, seventh, eightth.
23:15Yeah, Giyo's running.
23:16You know, Barsha doesn't, he doesn't forget anything.
23:20So a good ride by Cody to get up there in the middle, having a strong performance.
23:26Seventh.
23:27Running good all day long.
23:30Let's go!
23:30Said it to Katie.
23:31There's the mechanic for Shock, Katie.
23:33Yeah, they're stoked out here.
23:35He's seeing him right in the way he is.
23:36He's 13 in points.
23:38I did get a chance to talk to the number 37 earlier this weekend,
23:41and he said he's so happy with where he's at in the season.
23:44He also said he's extremely happy with where he's at in his life.
23:48He feels like he's presenting himself off track and on track in a way that he's really content with.
23:54And he says it's amazing that when my home life with my fiancee Emily and what we've got going
23:59and bringing that to the track, everything seems to kind of be going in the right motion.
24:03He also said that he was excited to be back here at Spring Creek after four years.
24:07It's amazing.
24:08We talk about these guys.
24:09We see them on the track every so often.
24:12Yet it's been since 2021 that Cody Shock actually rode here.
24:15Checking in with the leader here, Pro Motocross from Minnesota
24:25and just starting to inch away now down the stretch.
24:30Jet Lawrence, 3.3 seconds the gap now.
24:36It's nine-tenths of a second quicker than Hunter the last time around.
24:40He's starting to get it back under control.
24:46Yeah, looks good.
24:48Yeah.
24:49You can see his lines.
24:50He's just figuring it out.
24:51Those mistakes are being less and less.
24:53And, you know, again, you're watching him.
24:56He's banking off the corners, being a little bit patient.
24:59And because Hunter's not right on him, it's allowing him to do that.
25:02There's Hunter.
25:04There's that gap.
25:05Bigger than it was.
25:07He's riding so well.
25:09And really, it would be a great story.
25:11The 2023 250 champ, how well he rode last year,
25:14battling Sexton for this title,
25:16nearly winning the SMX World Championship, tying for it.
25:20And then riding so well this year.
25:21But everything's overshadowed by the record of Jet Lawrence.
25:24Let's go back to Chase Sexton.
25:26Now 21 seconds back in third, but still a step.
25:29It'd be a podium in his return last week.
25:32Didn't get on the box.
25:33So that's a little better for the Red Bull KTM men.
25:36Watch that Chattapult there.
25:38Yeah.
25:39Yeah, I don't think the gap is 23 seconds slower.
25:42I think Chase lost that toe.
25:44I mean, he doesn't have the pace.
25:45But he's doing what he said he was going to do.
25:47He's not going to override it.
25:49And he knows he's not ready to go at this level,
25:52like then finish his third place.
25:53So he'll get better and better.
25:55But there will be certain tracks that he'll ride better
25:57and certain tracks that he'll have days like this.
26:01Another good day for R.J. Hefshire.
26:03Looking for fourth overall if it ends like this.
26:06And running fourth in this moto.
26:09Great story here with R.J.
26:10The longtime wild man of the 250 class showing he can tame the 450.
26:15Probably smoother on this fight.
26:17Yeah, he definitely is.
26:19This is becoming the norm for R.J.
26:21So good job for him.
26:22And good to see the Husker Barna team get some of these top fives.
26:26And even Jorge Prada.
26:28Hanging in there.
26:29Yeah, he's hanging in there.
26:30I mean, as I said, it's very difficult.
26:33This is a win to me for him to be able to just keep that gap.
26:37You know, I know he wants to be farther and farther.
26:38But it was a lot better in that first moto.
26:40And he's showing that little bit of fight.
26:41So maybe he made some changes to the bike.
26:45That looked good.
26:47Let's go back to sixth.
26:48J.T.
26:49Well, the 992 is going to be coming down that hill here in a second.
26:52And Valentin Guillaude, he has to be ecstatic with this sixth place ride.
26:57He can look up and see the two-time MXGP champ in front of him.
27:00And, guys, I don't think he's ever been this close this late in a moto
27:03to Jorge Prado and his life coming in here.
27:05So this is a great ride.
27:06And he, remember this, he moves forward.
27:09He passed through the likes of Schock and Barsha to get here.
27:12I cannot say enough about the effort from Yamaha here.
27:14Big rear vest in the brief career in America for Guillaude.
27:18He said he'd like to race SMX playoffs if he can get in.
27:21And scoring a lot of points like that, maybe he will.
27:24Then back to this journey of Justin Barsha.
27:26Is he ahead of Schock now?
27:28Yes, he is.
27:30Yeah, Guillaude can thank Barsha for keeping him up
27:33because he's got to stay on it.
27:35And now my brother has made his way around Cody Schock.
27:40Two lap riders all around them.
27:42Malcolm is, well, Malcolm in the middle with the lap riders there.
27:46And then Schock's going to follow in behind him on that blue Yamaha.
27:50There he is.
27:51Got blocked by another lapper.
27:53Hey, Malcolm's riding pretty well today.
27:55I know you're not easy to impress, especially when you're a little bro.
27:57How do you feel?
27:57All right?
27:58I'm actually really impressed because I know a lot more about what's going on than most.
28:04And he looks a lot more comfortable on the bike, and that's a good sign.
28:06This track's just difficult.
28:08And he's holding off the number three in Corolli there.
28:12So, Katie?
28:13Well, moving on, down to the number three of Eli Tomek.
28:17Josh Ellings and his mechanic just put on the pit board, keep pushing.
28:22So, they're not giving him any indication that there's anything wrong.
28:24This is a bit of surprise to see Eli Tomek running in 10th.
28:27One thing to note about Eli Tomek, kind of mentioning what we did with Cody Schock.
28:31We think Eli Tomek has been to all these races, yes, and he knows these tracks.
28:37He's even won here.
28:38But in talking to his team, you guys, we have to remember, he hasn't raced here since 2022.
28:42And there's been a whole lot of life, a couple of injuries, a little this and that that he's been working on since he's been here again.
28:49So, he does have to relearn some things.
28:51He's not just going out there running and gunning like we know the former Eli did.
28:55It's kind of a different Eli now at this point in time.
28:58I struggle with Eli at Tomek here.
29:03He's straight up not having a good time out there.
29:05I'm going to be straight honest with you on that.
29:08I think something's up with Eli, whether he's battling energy, whether he's battling some sort of injury.
29:13There's something going on because less than a month ago, this guy was winning motos.
29:17And now he's a minute off the lead, maybe more.
29:21There's something going on with Eli Tomek.
29:23I can't put my finger on it, but this is not the Eli Tomek.
29:26Forget about years prior.
29:27This season that we saw.
29:31And he's looking to make a move on Shock.
29:33A mistake.
29:34Shock holds him off.
29:36Battle continues.
29:44So, JT there theorizing on Tomek.
29:46And this is the mind over matter thing as we go back to the leader, Lawrence.
29:49Do you think it's a physical thing, maybe, for Eli we just don't know about?
29:54Or, again, is it that mental, the frustration kicks in when you know you can win races and suddenly that's slipping away?
30:00Yeah.
30:00I mean, I don't know exactly 100% what's going on to Eli.
30:04Like, I'm not talking to him.
30:05This is speculation, but I can tell by the way he's riding.
30:08And the reason I don't feel like it's physical is because of what you're watching right here.
30:12You know, we've seen him.
30:14Like, he's super strong.
30:15I mean, even at the race that he went down to at Hank Town when he was going up.
30:20Like, it's not a condition thing.
30:22Eli's always been in shape.
30:24The way he has these bursts of speed tells me that it's not physical.
30:28But, again, I just go back to his body language.
30:32When he gets past, there's really not a lot of fight for.
30:35And it's not because he doesn't care or he doesn't try.
30:39He just wants to be battling for wins.
30:41If you would have told Eli, hey, you're going to come to this outdoor season, but you're going to be riding in ninth place, I guarantee he wouldn't have came.
30:48You know, he came out here thinking that, hey, there's going to be troubles.
30:51Like, yeah, I haven't raced in a while, but I feel like I'm good enough, the bike's good enough, that I can compete to win.
30:56And as I get my feet under me, I'll be up here.
30:59Well, that's going the other way now.
31:01And so you're just watching a rider deal with a situation that he's never been in.
31:06And it's a lot to deal with.
31:08So if you've never been at the top level and been where Eli is, it is hard to explain.
31:13And people just think it's him just not caring and giving up.
31:16It's the opposite of that.
31:18Because he wants to win, it is just hard for a guy to go out there and just compete for a tenth place when he knows he has the talent and team to win these races.
31:25Hey, JT, I'll swing it back to you on Prado.
31:27That was the thing you kept telling us in the preseason.
31:29Jorge Prado, for example, similar to Eli Tomac, has never not been up front in his entire life.
31:36And that's really the same thing with Tomac.
31:38And you were saying that.
31:39You've got to understand Prado's situation.
31:40Yeah, there's something about learning how to lose.
31:45Yeah.
31:45And I don't think anybody wants to learn how to lose.
31:47It's not ideal.
31:49But you have to be able to process it and mentally regroup and go back at it.
31:53And, you know, I agree with what James said about Eli.
31:55I don't know that it's physical.
31:57He looks strong on the motorcycle.
31:58But there's just a lack of fight here going on with him that I've never seen Eli Tomac have outside of a few weird races in his life.
32:06So, you know, to be honest with you, I would bet he doesn't exactly know what's going on right now.
32:12If he does, he's probably not talking about it.
32:15These guys are proud.
32:16Back to this.
32:17Shock now in a battle with Corolli on that Ducati.
32:22Corolli digging deep here.
32:24A battle for ten.
32:26It's right where he wanted to be.
32:28Yeah.
32:34Jet Lawrence putting it together down the stretch.
32:38About 25 minutes of fire that he had to deal with from his brother and his teammate.
32:45But able to master it down in the final few.
32:48Yeah.
32:48And Jet's been one of the best riders since he's been in this 450 class.
32:53I mean, his whole career at adjusting.
32:55And we saw his teammate in the 250 class, Joe Shimoda, figuring out how to ride the motorcycle without a rear brake.
33:01But Jet figured out how to ride around these issues of his bike.
33:05And it looks good.
33:07It's not like it's bad.
33:08But where he was and the level compared to Hunter, his bike was definitely struggling in front end.
33:14And Jet figured out.
33:15I saw his lines change.
33:16I saw how he was attacking the racetrack.
33:18And it just shows whoever can adjust the best can get it done.
33:22And Hunter had him on the ropes, but he let him off.
33:25Here's Tony Corolli making a move.
33:27He had this battle for tenth.
33:28Cody's shock on the inside of 37.
33:33Corolli on the left on that Ducati.
33:35It's up to the inside of Cody right here.
33:43Now, this is Tony's first time coming to this racetrack.
33:46I was talking to him yesterday, and he was surprised how hard the track was, the hard base.
33:52And I was like, man, unfortunately, I think it's going to be like that tomorrow.
33:55So you're going to have to, like, deal with it.
33:57But he did a good job after recovering, not going down hard that first moto, still fighting.
34:03Every lap on this Ducati is only going to help him and just get more knowledge on that.
34:07So Tony and Netner are doing a good job.
34:11Taking the data.
34:11As for Jet, he holds on to win this overall tie.
34:16Ken Rockson, who's actually here today, the two-time champion of the series for career overall wins.
34:20And it will be 21 wins in 22 starts in 450 pro motocross for Jet.
34:27Can you say that stat again?
34:29Yeah, I need to because I don't know if he can believe it.
34:32So if I say it twice, as I say, get two sources, go to print with it.
34:3621 out of 22 in his career.
34:39Yeah, that's unbelievable.
34:41When we got to 18 out of 19, I didn't even realize that it was that much.
34:45And the reason because of that, because everybody seemed like they were that close.
34:50Like, you know, look, man, yeah, every weekend we were talking.
34:53Oh, man, if he could just get a better start, they were there.
34:55And this guy was winning, but he was winning by these small margins.
34:58Well, now that's changed.
35:01It's changed.
35:01And it's been ever since Southwick, he's looked like a whole different rider.
35:05And that confidence is growing.
35:07And I believe because of Southwick, because of last weekend,
35:09allows him to have the confidence to go to hold off his brother.
35:13Because Hunter was fast.
35:15Hunter was the best that he maybe ever looked on the 450.
35:17But Jet was able to ride around and overcome the difficulties that he was having on a motorcycle
35:23and get another victory.
35:26And it's going to be demoralizing for all these guys outside of Hunter Lawrence
35:30because he'll be happy for them.
35:31But it's a big win for the 18 and the Honda.
35:34And it just shows you how much work they put in.
35:36It's showing on the racetrack.
35:38It just keeps getting better.
35:40Heard him on the JVAC show this week.
35:42Talk about he reads a book, 20 minutes of reading every morning.
35:46That's something he learned.
35:47Feels like it puts his mind in the right space to get his words and his thoughts organized
35:51and just always taking little steps to try to improve.
35:55Or you're going to show up at the riders meeting.
35:57They're going to see all these riders with books in their hands.
35:59Dude, is that guy out?
36:00Give me that book.
36:02I want it.
36:03Yeah.
36:04Yeah.
36:05Raised the price on that one because it's valuable.
36:09Helps you make money like this.
36:10The big bonus is probably about $100,000 for the win from Honda.
36:15And still undefeated overall this year.
36:18Jet Lawrence wins Spring Creek.
36:21And Hunter gave it everything he had.
36:27Second again.
36:29Four in a row.
36:31Good ride by Hunter Lawrence.
36:33Oh, yeah.
36:33Yeah.
36:35Jake Sexton, he'd go back to work.
36:37Next week should be a little bit better for him and the bike.
36:41You know how difficult Washougal is.
36:42There's a whole different racetrack.
36:43And they're going to have to figure some things out.
36:47I do feel like Sexton a little more aggressive at the beginning of the moto.
36:50That was the goal.
36:50And it was a better beginning.
36:52Yeah.
36:52No, he's a little bit more aggressive.
36:53But he knows, like, he's just not there to go to carry that intensity.
36:57Whether it's him, bike, they're just not on that level right now.
37:01So did a good job at getting third place.
37:05But Chase knows he's got to work on some things.
37:08That gap's a lot closer than that 42 seconds that we're watching.
37:11And there it is.
37:12Last year's champ across the line.
37:13Second race back with the third overall.
37:15Is that right?
37:16Oh, yeah.
37:19Listen.
37:20Ooh.
37:21Okay.
37:21Yeah.
37:23Yeah.
37:23Yeah.
37:23Yeah.
37:24Yeah.
37:25Yeah.
37:25Got it.
37:33Yeah.
37:34Yeah.
37:35Yeah.
37:36Yeah.
37:36Yeah.
37:37Good.
37:38Yeah.
37:38Yeah.
37:39Yeah.
37:39Yeah.
37:41One.
