00:00The hillsides in Colorado are packed with motocross fans on a perfect afternoon for racing, and they're hoping their own home state native can win today.
00:15For the first time since 2023, four-time motocross champion Eli Tomac will race in front of his home state fans in Colorado, hoping to exercise the demon of the past.
00:30Chet Lawrence, the points leader, brings the red plate into round three, having captured the first two overall wins this season.
00:40And the young Australian has put his own early season injury behind him, and is the man to beat in the 450 class.
00:50450 Moto1 from Thunder Valley is moments away.
01:00From the heat of California, pro motocross moves into the crisp mountain air and elevation of Colorado for the Toyota Thunder Valley National just outside of Denver, all part of the Super Motocross World Championship.
01:15Hello, everyone. Welcome to Thunder Valley. The whole crew is here.
01:20Jason Wigand joined by James Stewart, Jason Thomas, and Will Christian.
01:24So many storylines to follow for round three of pro motocross.
01:28Yes, James Stewart, the record book shows, like always, Jett Lawrence is off to a fantastic start in this championship.
01:34But it's a lot closer than 2-0 actually looks.
01:37Yeah, absolutely. Last weekend, we saw Eli Tomac come out that first moto and win.
01:42And we saw Aaron Plesinger fill his finish second. So anytime somebody wins 17 out of 18 starts or overall wins what Jett Lawrence has done, it's news when he doesn't.
01:51So last weekend, he was able to close the door again and end up winning the overall.
01:56But those guys stepped up. I'm looking forward to seeing if they can continue that today.
02:00Now, Tomac's going to have a lot of fans on his side here, JT, and he is riding very well.
02:03But he really needs to make it happen mathematically in the points.
02:07Well, I think we'd all agree that Eli Tomac is firmly in this championship fight.
02:10We've watched him on the racetrack. That first moto win spoke volumes last weekend.
02:14But the trouble is, you look up, he's not even second points. He's third in points and 17 points down.
02:20So I think this round is really critical. His father's a grand marshal. He's in his home state.
02:25He has to do a job here, and that is stem the momentum that Jett Lawrence has, turn the tide and get the points going his direction.
02:32Yeah, now his problem has been the starts and a couple of mistakes, but he has been fast.
02:35But, well, there's one other rider that we expected to be in this conversation, and so far he really has not been.
02:41That's right, and that's probably because he hasn't really proved what he's capable of yet.
02:45We just talked about these other guys, and they've proved themselves already.
02:48Here we are at round three, and the Spaniard Jorge Prado, well, yeah, we haven't seen the best of him yet.
02:54And why is that? Well, he's new everything, let's face it.
02:57He's with a new team at Monster Energy Kawasaki there.
03:00He's learning a brand new circuit. Just living in the U.S. is new for him.
03:03So there's a lot of adjustment. The team are going through those steps right now,
03:07but I'm sure we're going to see a lot more out of Jorge moving forward.
03:09And there are high expectations on all those riders today, and let's throw another name in the mix.
03:20Monster Energy Fast Qualifier from earlier is Justin Cooper, qualifying today, powered by Maverick.
03:26That is the first time in Cooper's career he's been the Fast 450 Qualifier,
03:29but he has always been fast at this track, even going back to his 250 days.
03:33Seven starts at this track, six podiums in his career, so watch out for the 32.
03:38Yeah, watch out, definitely watch out.
03:40It might be the first time he might get a Moto win here today.
03:42So as you just said, it's a good track for him, fast so far today.
03:53So we're ready. About five minutes, 450s racing first today in Colorado.
04:01Let's go!
04:02Slingshot.
04:03Woo!
04:03He did, James!
04:04Yeah, that's Cowboy style. Rope him up.
04:06Beast mode now!
04:07Eli Tomek to the lead!
04:09Eli Tomek's back on top!
04:11Gates down!
04:12Hunter Lawrence, Jet Lawrence!
04:14Oh, no!
04:15Tomek!
04:15Plessinger had Jet Lawrence on the ropes early, but Jet wins Hangtown anyway!
04:23Riders ready for the first race of the day.
04:24Just a moment ago, the Rocky Mountain Renegades, part of the opening ceremonies here.
04:29A group of professional pilots and enthusiasts from the Front Range of Colorado,
04:32a combination of United States Air Force, Navy, and civilian pilots.
04:36They got this place fired up, staffed with the National Anthem.
04:40And now, again, we roll into 450 Moto 1, which will be the first race of the day.
04:45This week's McGinley Medical Minute, Dr. Joe discusses the options for non-invasive medical treatments for many common injuries.
04:51Hi, Dr. Joe McGinley here.
04:58This week on the McGinley Clinic Medical Minute, we're going to be discussing regenerative medicine.
05:02The topic of regenerative medicine includes stem cells, PRP, hexazones, proteins.
05:07This area is really exciting and growing rapidly.
05:10Regenerative medicine or cell therapy can be used to treat a number of injuries that occur not only on the track, but also in daily life.
05:18With cell therapy, we can treat partial injuries of ligaments, meniscus, labral tears.
05:23If you've had a fracture, we can use it to accelerate healing.
05:26You're seeing a lot of riders return to the track earlier.
05:29Oftentimes, they're receiving cell therapy and other non-invasive treatments to accentuate that injury recovery.
05:35For families and parents out there, you can use cell therapy to treat back pain, back injuries, joint issues, arthritis.
05:43Cell therapy stem cells can fix all of these problems, get you back out there in a minimally invasive manner without surgery.
05:50If you're interested in learning more about cell therapy, reach out to the McGinley Clinic, either online through our Instagram site, or better yet, through the Privateer Support Program.
05:58For the McGinley Clinic, this is Dr. Joe McGinley, innovating treatments for lightning-fast recoveries.
06:10Thanks, Dr. Joe.
06:11Just got back from trying to climb Everest.
06:13Not quite as much elevation here, but there's some Yamaha track map.
06:16Yeah, these guys are going to feel like they're in Everest today with this track.
06:19Some changes off this here in Thunder Valley.
06:22They made some changes off the first hill.
06:24Once you go up the hill, normally you kind of drop down and just head back up and do a 180, but now you actually drop down and into another 180 and head back up the hill, then you drop back down.
06:34So small changes are going to be important for these guys to get off the gate.
06:37As you can see, there's a Dragon's Backup off the start.
06:40These guys are crucial, again, to get off that thing.
06:43And then Monster Shot, where these guys are going to be looking for some air breathing because it's going to be a tough day of racing here at Thunder Valley.
06:49All right, flat racing cart is sideways.
06:52Shout-out to the FMF Privateer Power Award winner dating back to last week, Lorenzo Licurcio, the wildcat racing machine.
07:00But Lorenzo not racing this weekend.
07:02We'll make sure he gets that trophy.
07:03Shout-out to the veteran out of Venezuela.
07:07And now time, James, for the KTM keys to the moto here at Thunder Valley.
07:11Well, I always talk about being patient.
07:13These guys are going to have to set up their passes here.
07:16Track conditions have been changing all day long.
07:18So they're going to have to plan a pass out, maybe plan one corner just to pass three corners later.
07:22So you've got to be disciplined on being able to do that.
07:25So those are my keys to the race.
07:26Good luck, guys.
07:30Once that car goes sideways, the revs will go up.
07:33It's a completely different type of start.
07:35James, everyone's starting in first gear, I would assume.
07:38You have to do it here.
07:39Yeah, just really the mental change for first gear.
07:42Let's see who can adjust.
07:43First moto of the day.
07:44Revs are up.
07:45Gates down.
07:48And it's the Hondas, as usual, up front.
07:53Hunter Lawrence, Jett Lawrence, Tomac tucking in with him, and Plessinger on the seven as well.
07:58Yeah, the top five and the top five in the points, the guys that we want.
08:01Now, we saw what happened last weekend.
08:03It's going to be important for any of these guys to get ahead of that number 18.
08:06We know how comfortable he is.
08:08Looks like Eli Tomac slides up into fourth place.
08:10And Plessinger and Jett Lawrence attacking the 96 of Hunter.
08:15Plessinger wants to go to the lead here.
08:16Yeah, he knows what's up and following.
08:18That was a nice move by him because he knows once Jett got around him.
08:21Well, he's got to try to close that inside off.
08:23Yeah, a little mistake.
08:24Open the door.
08:25Hunter on the 96 gets him back.
08:27Tomac lurking in fourth.
08:29Yeah, this was that change I was talking about, how they used to come down up on top of the hill
08:32and then it dropped down.
08:33Now they switched it up.
08:34So, already these guys are going for it.
08:38Tomac tucking in now, getting into that battle with Hunter and Plessinger.
08:42Listen to this crowd.
08:43Another move from the seven.
08:45Haven't seen Aaron Plessinger this aggressive in the beginning part.
08:48And we know if you're going to get Jett Lawrence anywhere, maybe the opening laps as he just tries to get to the inside.
08:53Hey, he was fast and qualifying.
08:56I think that was the career best for him.
08:58He's right behind Justin Cooper for second.
09:00He is not known as a qualifier.
09:02So, oh, look at this scene here.
09:07Jett jumped at it.
09:08That's the first time I've seen him now.
09:09The track's going to be a lot different than what it was earlier.
09:12You can already see it.
09:13Starting to see that gap stretch out.
09:15Back up hill they go toward the finish line.
09:23And so many different scenarios here.
09:25But in the end, Jett Lawrence, good starts, laps led.
09:30Yeah, I saw his jump.
09:31I mean, that kid got an amazing jump off the gate.
09:33And it's no surprise that he was up there.
09:35But look at Hunter Lawrence.
09:37Making it easy on Plessinger.
09:41As they sort out lap one.
09:43Tomac and Justin Cooper next, James.
09:44Yeah, you can see all the lines from the track conditions.
09:46You can also see where they worked on it.
09:48So, as this track breaks in, some parts are going to be super loose.
09:51And a lot of it is going to have some difficult soil for these guys.
09:56It's just different how they hook back on to the start.
09:58That's the way they did it when this track jumped back into the national program back in 2005.
10:03And then it's been about 15 years.
10:05They changed that section.
10:07Now it's back to the old way.
10:09Yeah, I used to love that section because it was the only time I could get my tongue out of my chain.
10:13I was so tired.
10:14I could breathe right there.
10:15So, I like that his back.
10:18Yeah, used to have to hit those rollers and whoops behind the starting gate.
10:21No rest there.
10:22Oh, look at the three of Tomac and four starting to lurk.
10:25Yeah, you can start to see that 18.
10:29It's nice to be able to see these guys keep closing.
10:31I like the inside that Aaron has where he was able to get around Hunter.
10:35So, Eli knows he needs to go up to the front and at least try to get in front of Jet Lawrence,
10:40then slow the race down.
10:41So, got to bring this thing back to you.
10:45Send it to Will Christian.
10:46What more on Tomac?
10:47Thanks, Jason.
10:49I think this is what the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing Team wanted out of Tomac.
10:54They said to me, Rich Simms, the team manager, specifically said, top five start.
10:58He's like, if he's top five, he'll start getting aggressive moving forwards.
11:01And he also noted that his start sequence, how he does this with the uphill, being at altitude,
11:07starting in first, as you guys referenced at the beginning of the race, that's his norm.
11:11Cortez, Colorado, where he lives and trains, is around the same elevation even a little bit more.
11:15So, this is what he's used to.
11:17So, this start and this charge is what the team are looking for.
11:20What do you see here so far, James?
11:22Is this pace or is this riders sorting out lines and where they are right now?
11:27Well, a little bit of both.
11:28I mean, I think the pace is going good.
11:30It seemed like they were able to close in on Jet on some of the slower parts of the corner.
11:33But, yeah, I mean, I think the difficult part for Eli is you can see all these ruts in here.
11:38Just what we saw with Jet, once he gets that gap, then you're going to have to push.
11:42Even if you're just as fast or a little bit faster,
11:44how much you're going to have to push because of that time.
11:46So, I think it's a key part of the race for them to get forward and try to move up.
11:51And good to see RJ up in here, top five.
11:53And then you got Justin Cooper, our fastest qualifier, actually got passed by RJ.
11:56So, good move.
11:57RJ's moving forward.
11:59Yeah.
11:59First season on a 450 for the 24, the Rockstar Husk Marta.
12:03And, yeah, for the fast qualifier, though, Cooper getting shoved back to sixth.
12:08Not what you'd expect.
12:11Critical juncture here.
12:12Plessinger trying to keep one Lawrence in sight and trying to hold off the other.
12:17Yeah, this is the difficult part because as, I believe, Jet's actually figuring this racetrack out,
12:23trying to get his lines.
12:24Like, I saw him jumping a few of these bumps and stuff.
12:27So, he's starting to work into his form.
12:29So, it's important, again, for Aaron to keep him on him, keep him uncomfortable
12:33because that two-second gap will turn into five-second real quick
12:36if these couple laps as this kid gets more comfortable, Jet Lawrence.
12:39And Tomac closing back to Hunter Lawrence now for third.
12:47You know, one of the things we haven't talked about here is Roos.
12:51Roos hurts really bad.
12:52So, maybe that's some of the back and forth, as you can see.
12:55Let's see if Eli can make this outside work.
13:00No good there.
13:00He's going to try again.
13:04Yeah, I think eventually that outside is going to come into play.
13:06The inside continue to get deeper.
13:09A bit of a calm before the storm.
13:13He'll reel this heat up with this top four.
13:18Now, when I watch Eli ride, I feel like he's an emotional rider.
13:22And what I mean by it is, like, when he makes passes, I think it just wakes him up.
13:26So, if he's able to get around Hunter Lawrence and then maybe get around Aaron Flessinger,
13:30then he'll pull up on Jet Lawrence.
13:31So, if he gets stuck behind these guys, then I think it could go the other way.
13:35So, let's see what happens.
13:37JT.
13:38Yeah, I couldn't agree with you more, James.
13:39I think, ideally, you'd want to make some quick passes on AP and Hunter.
13:42I'm sure that's harder than it sounds.
13:44But think about what happened at the opening round at Fox Raceway.
13:48Eli sat on Jet's rear wheel for the better part of 35 minutes and wasn't able to make a decisive pass.
13:53So, you think about what did he learn from that scenario?
13:56He needs to get to his rear wheel, start figuring out Jet's line, and he's got to attack this time.
14:01Jet's not a rider where you can wait for a mistake and he's going to hand it to you.
14:05He's going to have to force the issue.
14:06Yeah, I completely agree.
14:09And the way this track is, and because it's not so hot and there's slower parts,
14:13I don't think these guys are going to have to worry about conditioning.
14:15So, I don't think Eli can play the game of, okay, he's going to come back to me because he's going to start getting tired.
14:20I don't think the way this track setup is going to allow those guys to have that conditioning issue that it had last weekend.
14:25Even with the elevation, the breathing?
14:29No, I just think there's a lot of resting parts in these corners.
14:32Like, specifically, once they get up on top of this hill, you start dropping back down.
14:36You can relax in these corners, get your breathing back up, and that just helps a lot when you're riding at this level.
14:41So, for these guys, they're recovering, although they're out there racing.
14:44It's definitely close now.
14:47Tomac taking another shot at Hunter Lawrence and Hampshire.
14:51He's still in this fight also.
14:54Big runner on the outside for the three.
14:56Yeah, let's see if Eli can make that outside.
14:58All he needs to do is get next to Hunter and keep him somewhat close.
15:03He's going to try to do it.
15:04If he can get this corner right, this outshot should try to play.
15:07Oh, you see that?
15:09Nice move by Hunter.
15:10He jumped out of that corner because he sensed it.
15:13Now Eli can maybe switch it back up, get back to the inside of him right here.
15:17Here it is.
15:18Oh, he ran it in as hard as he could.
15:20Not enough.
15:21Yeah, he's trying.
15:27I love the way Eli's bike looks under acceleration, just even compared to Hunter's.
15:32Just seems like he has more traction.
15:34It's not as busy for him on the rear end.
15:37It's not bouncing around as much.
15:38I like that.
15:39But you can see Chet Lawrence and also Plessinger beginning to pull away from this battle.
15:46Now about a two-second lead for the 18.
15:50Yeah, I know this is frustrating for Eli and even for Hunter Lawrence because he can't race forward.
15:54He's got to block out like how he hopped out of the inside to get to the outside.
15:57He's slowing down trying to make sure he plays defense on Eli.
16:01It's just allowing those guys to get away.
16:03So Tomac going to have to take another shot at Hunter as Chet Lawrence begins to pull away now.
16:15He's in the bottom screen.
16:17Another lap lead.
16:17Seems like we say that a lot.
16:21Oh, yeah.
16:21Another lap lead.
16:23Well, look.
16:24There's really only one 450 race outdoors we can really think of where he didn't have the good start.
16:28That was last week at Hangtown Moto 1.
16:30He finished third.
16:31You've been saying over and over how that track position is maybe more valuable than people even realize.
16:36And the way he manages races.
16:38And these Hondas just keep pulling starts, Will.
16:40Yeah, and the team just keep improving those Hondas, Jason.
16:44They've sort of talked about it very openly about the struggles that they've had just getting this bike ready for outdoors.
16:50I think we're seeing that now in Hunter Lawrence and him being able to keep up Eli Tomac right now.
16:55They were testing in California all week.
16:58And I was told by the team that this was the biggest week as far as kind of achievement and gains went.
17:03And they said they're hoping that when they come out of Thunder Valley here, they'll have a base that they can work with for the rest of the year.
17:08So a lot of positivity coming out from the camp there.
17:12They're going to need it right now because Will Tomac's taking another crack at Hunter.
17:19All right, let's see if he can maneuver.
17:21I think he lost a little bit too much ground.
17:23Hunter's a smart racer.
17:25He's blocking it just right.
17:26As you can see, he goes inside where Eli almost got him in the lap before.
17:29So that's heads up riding by him.
17:32Hunter Lawrence, that is.
17:33Now to the far side of the track, JT.
17:40Yeah, watching Hunter here, you know, there's no doubt about who's behind him.
17:43The Yamahas have a very unique sound.
17:45And also, he rides at such a high RPM.
17:48Hunter would be very easy for him to deduce who's behind him.
17:51And then every time Eli tries these maneuvers, he's trying the same lines to pass lap after lap.
17:56Hunter's learning from that.
17:57So he's learning.
17:57You know, James, you've spent so much time in the series talking about where you need to defend,
18:01where you really need to push and where passes are possible.
18:04Hunter is riding those down mentally every single lap.
18:07And he's like, okay, right here he's going to try a pass.
18:09I have to really step up my game.
18:10Yeah, absolutely.
18:13Like through here.
18:14Yeah, Eli, maybe you can get Hunter to make a mistake.
18:16But again, just JT mentioned, once you get that rider beside you, you know, you just got to beat him to that next apex of the corner.
18:22So then you start relaxing and Hunter's doing that.
18:25And these guys are so good.
18:26You only get a few opportunities to show your cards.
18:29Otherwise, they know where you're going.
18:31And Hunter's doing a fantastic job at blocking Eli.
18:34And it's starting to frustrate him, you can tell.
18:36Now, the second half of that lap, Tomac was a little bit closer than he had been.
18:40Because he was almost making the pass on the front half.
18:43Let's see.
18:44He's a little closer now than he was last time.
18:47Yeah, Eli knows he needs to be close up in this section.
18:50Because Hunter can't block the whole racetrack.
18:52There's parts where JT was mentioning where it opens up and you can't block it.
18:56And you're going to have to race.
18:57And I do believe that's where Eli really starts to push.
19:00As right here, he gets really aggressive.
19:01But he's lost a little bit of time to Hunter.
19:04See if he pushes going down this hill just to get back up close to him.
19:08Yeah, this is a new corner here.
19:09This right to get back up before they just stayed up top by that Thunder Valley sign the whole time.
19:15Tomac's going to try to use this new corner to his advantage.
19:19Dropping back down.
19:22Yeah, these ruts makes it so difficult.
19:25You almost, if you're Eli, see Hunter goes on that outside because he knows it's better now.
19:30It's completely different.
19:31They took each other's lines.
19:33Yeah, that's just because Hunter knew that outside was working.
19:36He couldn't fit Eli off too much.
19:37Now they're switching it up.
19:39But I do have some news, though, on Tomac.
19:41He actually was the fastest rider on the track the last time around.
19:45They've closed the gap to the leaders.
19:47And now Tomac looking to make the pass on Hunter Lawrence.
19:49Oh, you better close him off.
19:51Game of chicken right here.
19:54Here we go.
19:55This ain't over yet.
19:56Watch, Hunter is going to hit this tabletop.
19:59There you go.
19:59And he's going to keep it smooth.
20:01You saw that in the previous laps.
20:02Jumping that downhill.
20:04Yeah, that little bit of time.
20:05That's what his brother does.
20:06And man, Eli, he had him.
20:08And look, they closed up on Aaron Plessinger.
20:10So, yeah, as you just mentioned, Eli has been fast.
20:12And he's starting to push the 96 up towards those guys.
20:15And Jet Lawrence is still right there.
20:16So.
20:17Oh, yeah.
20:18He's still in sight for sure.
20:20And, yeah, because Hunter's trying to fend off Tomac.
20:22He has gotten back to the rear fender of Plessinger.
20:26Yeah, as I mentioned earlier with Eli, he's an emotional rider.
20:29The good thing for him is that Jet Lawrence isn't getting away.
20:31Otherwise, it's going to be really frustrating as Hunter Lawrence tries to go up to inside.
20:35But how about this?
20:37JT.
20:38Well, yeah, that's a great example here of Tomac's pace pushing Hunter forward into AP.
20:43Really, Hunter's urgency level just got raised.
20:46You see him make the move there.
20:47That was all force from Eli Tomac pushing Hunter Lawrence forward.
20:51And I was just thinking about Tomac, how angry he has to be.
20:54James, you know that emoji where you have the head exploding?
20:56That's probably Eli Tomac back there because he wants to go chase down that 18.
21:01And he simply cannot get in the second place to do it.
21:03Yeah, his head is definitely exploding.
21:05And it would probably have been blown off by now.
21:07But the 18 is still right there.
21:09So as quickly as Hunter Lawrence was, Eli was all over Hunter Lawrence.
21:13Hunter Lawrence is closing in on his brother.
21:14So that gives Eli at least keep his head on his shoulder at the moment.
21:18Bottom box there, James.
21:20That is Cooper Webb and Jorge Prado battling it out seventh and eighth.
21:23Similar to where they were battling a week ago.
21:26Totally different track conditions and everything.
21:28And they've just resumed some of these fights.
21:30They've been close in a lot of the motos this year.
21:32That's the bottom.
21:34Up top, Plessinger and Tomac trying to hang with the Lawrences.
21:39Yeah, actually Jorge was able to get around Cooper Webb.
21:41So he made a position.
21:43So nice start by him.
21:44A little surprised looking at the lap times that Justin Cooper lost so much time.
21:48Him and RJ, they're 11 and 12 seconds behind Jett Lawrence.
21:51So being your fastest qualifier as much as how fast he was, a little surprising.
21:55Yeah, we thought maybe a moto win could be in the cards for Jay Coop today.
21:59But he is now a distant sixth.
22:02And the more things change, the more they stay the same.
22:04It's back to the Lawrences.
22:06One, two.
22:06And look at the gap that Hunter now has.
22:09And he's closing on Jett.
22:12Yeah, he's closing on Jett.
22:13And Eli definitely has lost that toe.
22:16So, got to regroup.
22:18Look at the times, the last two laps around.
22:24It was really the last two that were much better for Hunter.
22:27And you can see the difference now.
22:28He's right there.
22:29Yeah, you got to remember, Hunter got his first win here last year as well.
22:32So, he got a moto win in there.
22:35So, it might be a lot of motivation.
22:38Get a little brother-on-brother crime if need be, JT.
22:41Yeah, Jay, just watching Hunter's increased pacer,
22:44do you think he was able to lower his lap times here
22:46simply because he learned where Eli was going behind him?
22:49Like, is there something to it?
22:50Or do you think he raised the intensity because of Eli's pace?
22:54Yeah, I think a little bit of both.
22:55I think Aaron made a mistake because, as you can see, Aaron's dropped off.
22:58I think Hunter, obviously, with Eli pushing him,
23:01just pushed him up on the back of Aaron Plessinger.
23:03But as quickly as Hunter got there, he lost the toe with his brother.
23:06So, I almost felt like Jett was in that relaxed mode.
23:09He was thinking Aaron was behind him and allowed all these guys to go.
23:12So, going to be curious to see if Hunter can continue that pace
23:15to get him a little bit of confidence.
23:17But I do believe that Eli was pushing the pace, as you mentioned earlier.
23:21Now, halfway through this 30-minute and two-lap moto.
23:23A reminder, Monster Energy available now at Maverick.
23:28Tomac thinks third place might be available now.
23:32He's right there at Plessinger.
23:33Just showed you how important a start is because, I mean, Eli started top five,
23:43and he's in fourth place, you know, so he can't get around these guys.
23:48And is Eli telling himself, if I had been able to close the door on Hunter,
23:51I'd be right there where he is right now?
23:53I think, I don't know what Eli's telling himself.
23:55He's probably yelling at himself, but at the same time,
24:00Jett Lawrence is only five seconds up in front of him.
24:02So, as much as things have been maybe going not according to plan,
24:05if you're Eli Tomac, we still know beast mode is in there.
24:09This race ain't over yet.
24:10Yeah.
24:11Through all this battling and even some passes,
24:14the gap from first to fourth has stayed about identical the whole way.
24:17It's either been five to five and a half seconds.
24:20Right now, it's 5.4.
24:22Can Tomac rally?
24:24Can Tomac rally?
24:25Yeah, looking at this racetrack,
24:27it almost feels like when you catch a guy,
24:30you drop back, almost get him to relax,
24:32and then you blitz him,
24:34meaning like in these certain parts where we saw Eli,
24:36once you get close to him, you got to pass him instantly.
24:39But otherwise, you kind of just let him be,
24:41make sure you just stay close and be patient until you're able to pass.
24:44And I think maybe that's what we're about to start to see with Eli,
24:46because clearly he's faster.
24:49Do believe he's faster than a lot of these guys,
24:51maybe outside of Jett.
24:52Not quite able to make it happen at the moment.
25:01Hey, folks, Super Motocross playoffs coming in September.
25:04Two full days of fun.
25:05You want to be there Friday and Saturday when history gets made in Concord,
25:09St. Louis, and especially the World Championship finale in Las Vegas.
25:14Go to SuperMotocross.com.
25:17And here it comes, second half of the race.
25:19Ked, the Colorado native, start to close.
25:23And up front, speaking of closing,
25:26I believe Hunter is right on the rear wheel of Jett.
25:29You see the pylon left side of the screen, only .8.
25:32Look how close it is now.
25:34Yeah, and believe it or not, that actually gives some motivation,
25:37if you're Eli Tomac, to be able to see that.
25:40So you know you're all over Hunter.
25:42So hopefully maybe you can just regroup and maybe pull these guys back up, JT.
25:47Well, you know, we're kind of in the middle of the moto here, James,
25:49and it's really important for the riders to kind of stay engaged,
25:52and they rely on the mechanics to give them some messaging,
25:55whether it's lap times, sometimes it's motivation,
25:58sometimes it's reminders of breathing when we're at elevation like this.
26:01That time around, Jett Lawrence's mechanic Christian Ducharme
26:04told him to hit his marks, and that's a road racing term,
26:07but how it relates to moto is just walk into what you're doing,
26:10pick the good lines, and just execute your game plan.
26:14Eli Tomac's side, a lot of intensity,
26:16trying to get him fired up to make a charge.
26:19It's just interesting.
26:19They're all within five seconds of each other,
26:21but the messaging couldn't be much more different.
26:24But, James, would you say that Jett Lawrence is hitting his marks right now?
26:28A couple of mistakes that we just saw.
26:29No, absolutely not.
26:30I was just going to say that.
26:31What Christian's talking about is what we saw with Jett Lawrence in that corner,
26:34how he slammed into it.
26:36He's not that smooth, patient,
26:38and we looked at each other off camera like,
26:40man, he's starting to make some mistakes,
26:41and these guys see that.
26:43So, as I said, as Hunter Lawrence brings this battle back in there,
26:46I think that's going to motivate Eli to come up,
26:49and that's where Eli's mechanics and, like,
26:51intensity, this race isn't done yet,
26:53because it'll be really easy for Eli to start going the other way emotionally
26:56because you're frustrated.
26:58And then Jett Lawrence's mechanic is like,
26:59look, you better hit your marks
27:00because you're bringing the whole field back in this.
27:03Don't want that door open, champ.
27:05Now, last year, the brothers split the motos.
27:08A 1-2 for Hunter, a 2-1 for Jett.
27:11But Jett was coming off the back of a huge crash
27:13the previous week in Hangtown
27:15and was really gutting it out.
27:17Now both are healthy,
27:18and they're putting on quite a battle.
27:21Yeah, and what you're witnessing here,
27:23I think when Jett's able to get her away,
27:25it's what Christian has said.
27:26He hit his marks.
27:27He didn't make a mistake in the corner,
27:29in some of these corners,
27:30and it's really easy to do at this racetrack.
27:32So, if you're uncomfortable,
27:34if you have any bike set up that's too stiff
27:36or you maybe have arm pump,
27:37this track's going to exacerbate that a lot
27:40because it's going to bring it out.
27:41It's going to be difficult for these guys
27:42and got 10 minutes left to ride this thing out.
27:45And this continuation of the Prado and Webb battle continues.
27:50Prado, the two-time MXGP World Motocross champion
27:53moving to America
27:54and the new champion of Monster Energy Supercross.
27:57They're back in 7th and 8th.
27:59It's the bottom box
28:00and just an example of how deep that field is
28:03in the 450 Division this season.
28:07JT, what are you thinking on the 70th, Prado?
28:08Well, I'm thinking I don't really know what I'm seeing here
28:12because, honestly, Prado, I've been watching him for years
28:14and it's just been excellence across the board.
28:17Winning is really all he's ever done.
28:18He's been in the fight every single time.
28:20And, guys, we're 20 minutes in
28:22and he sits 44 seconds down almost to the leaders.
28:26Like, I just, I keep waiting for the arrival of Jorge Prado
28:30and we're just not seeing it.
28:31I'm sure he's frustrated.
28:33I'm sure the team is trying to alleviate that concern for him.
28:36But, man, it has to be a little disappointing, I think, at this point so far.
28:40And, JT, no doubt you mentioned the team there.
28:43They're working.
28:43They're all working
28:44and they're trying to give Jorge what he needs.
28:46And I was chatting to him earlier on this morning
28:48and he said, honestly, I feel like I'm cruising out there right now.
28:52He's like, I know I'm not able to push.
28:53I'm not in that position yet.
28:55And I asked him, what do you want to work with yourself?
28:57Let's take the bike aside.
28:58He's like, honestly, I can't get there yet
28:59because until I've got the motorcycle a little bit more where I need it,
29:03I don't know where the gaps are.
29:04So they're just kind of in this process, as you put it right now,
29:08and, you know, making small gains.
29:09So, yes, he's not where he wants him right now,
29:12but as we said at the top of the show there,
29:13there's kind of hope that this will just steadily be moving in the right direction.
29:17Yeah, and further on Will's point,
29:20I mean, that's what he's going to have to do
29:21because at this point, you know, you're in no man's land.
29:24I mean, for him, top 10, you'd be like, okay, how the season started.
29:28This is a great ride.
29:29But when you start looking at lap times,
29:31the top sixes are, you know, six guys are running two 14s.
29:35Jorge's running two 18s and even slower than that.
29:38So no matter if he finished second,
29:40he's going to go back and look at the gap,
29:42and that's almost going to make it even harder for him
29:44because he's like, I'm so far off.
29:47From these guys, how can I make that time up?
29:49But if anybody can do it, it's this guy.
29:51He's got the talent.
29:52He's got the team.
29:53They just got to stick with it, and, you know, he'll get there.
29:57Give it up there to the running order of the Monster Energy Riders out there.
30:00You've got Tomac fourth, Justin Cooper sixth, Prado,
30:03who you're watching right now, seventh.
30:05Webb right behind him in eighth.
30:07Jason Anderson, that's Prado's Monster Kawasaki teammate, twelfth.
30:12Yeah, I talked to Dan Fahey, the team manager for Kawasaki, this morning,
30:15and he said they are making forward progress.
30:18Maybe not as much as they want,
30:20but at least they know they're gaining
30:22and not making steps backwards as they experiment.
30:25But the overall result here looks just like what we have seen
30:30in the previous couple of rounds,
30:33battling it out with Webb in seventh.
30:35We talked to Prado yesterday about trying to make some gains this season.
30:39Overall, like, my feeling with the bike,
30:44so suspension-wise and stuff like that.
30:47So it was needed, and after round one and round two,
30:51we already got a direction to where to work on,
30:54and I think we are following those indications very good.
30:57And, yeah, I think this week we did a lot of steps.
31:00So, yeah, we are just building.
31:02Yeah, and he's going to have to,
31:05and I think he's been put in a really difficult position
31:08because not only is he switching new teams,
31:10he switched countries.
31:12We're going back to the battle for the lead.
31:14You know, there's a lot of changes that's happening for him,
31:17and also he was hurt,
31:19so he hasn't been having that race pace.
31:21But one guy who has the race pace is the 96,
31:24and he's brought Aaron Plessinger,
31:26and you look, there's Eli Tomac still in that last one.
31:28Eli was the fastest guy on the race track that last lap.
31:31These guys are here.
31:32Yeah, 2.13.6 for Tomac,
31:342.13.7 for Jet Lawrence,
31:372.14 for Hunter,
31:40and 2.14 for Plessinger.
31:42So that is the one thing.
31:44Tomac has managed to stay
31:45at least somewhat within viewing distance.
31:49Five minutes and two laps to go.
31:51Yeah, and when you start thinking about this race,
31:54Jet Lawrence really could have broke this thing
31:56and almost put this race away
31:58if he was able to get away, but he hasn't.
32:00So, JT.
32:02Well, just, you know, thinking about Hunter
32:03and the way this racetrack is shaped up,
32:05Hunter's not a rider that likes to take a lot of chances.
32:07He's the ultimate tactician,
32:09the ultimate strategist,
32:10and he's like a velociraptor.
32:11You look at him,
32:12and he's kind of trying to figure you out all the time.
32:15That's just how he approaches life.
32:16That's how he's approaching this moto.
32:18So you think about the way this racetrack's so slow.
32:20You have to be super methodical
32:22and pick your way around it.
32:23It really seems like it's setting up for Hunter,
32:25even though AP's making a run right here.
32:26Yeah, the Cowboys just getting loose here,
32:28and he's about to reclaim second place.
32:31Red Bull KTM moving up a spot,
32:32breaking up the Honda party.
32:34Yeah, I mean, as I was just saying,
32:36Jet really had the opportunity a couple laps ago
32:39to really break this race,
32:40because I think Eli was on the brink of
32:42kind of letting it go
32:44as we were watching my brother
32:45having a tough one.
32:46He looked like he just got up.
32:47Maybe somebody else is down as well,
32:48but because...
32:49What is going on with Plessinger, James?
32:51He's right there with Jet Lawrence,
32:53and he wants the lead.
32:54Yeah, Jet's laboring a little bit.
32:56I think he's either struggling with arm pump,
32:58and I was going to mention when Hunter was behind him,
33:00if anybody knows what's going on,
33:01it's him because he's riding with his brother all day long,
33:04so he knows something's not right by Jet
33:06with his body language,
33:07and the number seven's here to play.
33:09He wants some action.
33:10Eli who?
33:10It's about number seven.
33:12Oh, he's popular everywhere we go.
33:14Listen to this.
33:18Eight times he has finished second in Emoto,
33:20and the 450 class has not won yet.
33:24Is this the time?
33:26Yeah, they're going to have to switch their lines up.
33:28You saw Hunter Lawrence and Jet Lawrence
33:30hit that tail top,
33:31and what it's allowed him to do
33:32is just really just be smooth,
33:34and you can see that gap,
33:35but everywhere else it seems like Aaron
33:36and these guys are able to close back on Jet Lawrence.
33:39I think Jet's really starting to struggle,
33:42and there's going to be some parts of this racetrack
33:44that he's going to have to push,
33:45and let's see if he can.
33:46Otherwise, Aaron Plessinger is going to get around
33:48like he just did Hunter Lawrence.
33:49Now, this is, if you look at the left side of the screen,
33:51a dubious honor for Plessinger.
33:53Of all the riders who have won the 250 motocross title,
33:56he has the most 450 starts without a moto win,
34:00but he could be a few minutes away
34:02from leaving that list if he can make this pass.
34:06He's getting so much confidence from all these guys,
34:12just being able to stay there,
34:13and again, you think about early in the race,
34:16if Eli could have got around Hunter Lawrence,
34:18how different it would have been for him,
34:20but he's still in this race.
34:22But I will say this.
34:23How many times,
34:24even especially dating back to his 250 days,
34:26have we seen riders get to the rear fender of Jet Lawrence?
34:30It looks like it's going to happen,
34:31and it doesn't happen.
34:33Yeah, but I think the difference is,
34:35is that the riders that are doing it now,
34:37these guys haven't been there that close to them,
34:39and let alone this late.
34:41You call to James,
34:42and now he's got the pass and the lead.
34:45I knew it.
34:47I could tell.
34:47There are certain parts of the racetrack
34:48that Jet's just kind of cruising around,
34:50almost like he's surviving,
34:51and he wouldn't be able to block that,
34:53just what we saw last week,
34:55the last lap with Hunter Lawrence
34:57and Aaron Plessinger getting around,
34:58but what a move,
34:59and let's see how much energy.
35:00It's going to tell you a lot
35:01on how Jet Lawrence is feeling.
35:02If he's able to get back around Aaron Plessinger,
35:06and he's in this race,
35:06otherwise he might just be trying to hold on.
35:11Oh, Jet trying to respawn now.
35:15Yeah, Aaron's going to have to block this line right here,
35:18and he's going to have to be careful
35:20because Jet is jumping his little tabletop,
35:22and he'll go around the outside of him
35:23if Aaron doesn't block it.
35:24Yep, you've got to watch this downhill jump coming up.
35:29Aaron switched lines.
35:30What a move.
35:31And he jumped it.
35:31Yeah.
35:33Was he jumping that the whole motor?
35:35No.
35:35He just figured that out.
35:36No, I think what he was doing
35:37was going in that line
35:38to block Jet Lawrence from jumping it,
35:41and he's like,
35:41well, I'm here now.
35:42I might as well jump it myself.
35:44And Jet moving back up.
35:46Side by side.
35:50Plessinger's got to run the outside
35:52as fast as he can.
35:53Got to lean on him, son.
35:54No!
35:55Jet able to get it back.
35:58Almost had the door shut.
36:01Lawrence able to reclaim it.
36:02Oh, look at those ruts.
36:04Look how deep it is.
36:05But he's holding it on.
36:07Feet off the pegs.
36:08Held it wide.
36:10And then meanwhile,
36:11Hunter Lawrence and Tomac going at it.
36:13See it in the bottom box.
36:14Yeah, this is super impressive
36:16by Jet Lawrence
36:17because, I mean, one,
36:17he hasn't had this kind of pressure
36:19towards the end of this race
36:20to be passed.
36:21Nobody ever passes a kid,
36:22but to be able to respond
36:23should tell you enough
36:24on why this guy is a champion
36:26and why this guy is leading the point.
36:29But his line's right here.
36:30That outside's pretty slow,
36:31which is allowing Aaron Plessinger
36:33to get back up on him.
36:35Let's see if Aaron can blitz it,
36:36going down this hill
36:37and make that pass again
36:38or Jet's going to switch it up himself.
36:40And Plessinger,
36:41the son of AMA Hall of Famer
36:42Scott Plessinger,
36:43an off-road racer,
36:44great in the mud,
36:45always says he loves the ruts,
36:47he loves the slower,
36:48more difficult tracks.
36:50He's got those conditions.
36:51This is where he made the move before,
36:53not quite close enough.
36:54Nah, Jet changed his line
36:56and as these guys,
36:58you're showing him a car,
36:59they're going to change it up
37:00and that was a heads-up move
37:01by Jet Lawrence
37:03to switch it up, JT.
37:04It was.
37:05And you ever wonder
37:06if these guys are just
37:07turning their brain off
37:07and holding a wide open wall?
37:09I think that was proof
37:10that there's so much thinking going on
37:12and they really have to stay aware
37:13of the changing lines
37:15because had Jet gone
37:16to that outside again,
37:17AP would have passed him right back
37:18and the same thing holds true.
37:20AP switched lines
37:20in that tabletop section
37:22so they're really trying
37:23to game each other out
37:23and figure out where they go.
37:25Now watch Jet here.
37:26He's trying to make a break, James.
37:27He's trying to respond
37:28and make a break
37:29and end it right here.
37:30Yeah, yeah, he is.
37:31And he had an opportunity
37:32to do this early in the race
37:33but he wasn't able to.
37:34So I just think it's impressive
37:36for him to regroup
37:37and get back around these guys
37:40and JT, that's an excellent point.
37:41These guys are racing for it
37:43but they're also racing the guy
37:44and line selection behind him.
37:46Really cool to watch these guys go at it.
37:51Going to be two to go
37:52next time around.
37:57Yeah, Aaron cannot let this gap
37:59stretch out anymore
38:01especially with these lap routers.
38:02If Jet passes one,
38:03you got to get around him.
38:04This is your opportunity.
38:05Jet's going to be stuck
38:06behind these guys.
38:07There's two of them
38:07so they're probably
38:09not going to follow each other.
38:10They'll split it up
38:10so Jet's going to be in the spot
38:11and there you go.
38:13Yeah, these riders
38:13are battling each other.
38:15Last time around
38:16they dropped it back
38:17into the 2-12s.
38:18Jet's on the outside.
38:19Woo, that bike was kicking.
38:21Oh yeah.
38:22And they cleared him.
38:23Derek Kelly,
38:24they got around him.
38:25But he's going to be stuck
38:26again behind these guys.
38:27You hear Jet revving up
38:27that motorcycle
38:28and when you got two of them
38:30with all these ruts
38:31these guys want to get out of the way
38:32but they can't
38:33which allowed Aaron Plessinger
38:34right back up in this thing.
38:37Oh, it's wheel to wheel uphill.
38:39Now let's see if Jet
38:39goes inside right here.
38:41He's been going outside.
38:42Goes back inside.
38:44I mean outside
38:45now allows him
38:46and I like the Aaron's line.
38:47He had to switch it up
38:48on this time.
38:49Oh, he was beautiful
38:50on the inside
38:51and now outside
38:52and now side by side.
38:55Alright, now if Aaron
38:56just stays on his normal line
38:58and Jet doesn't switch
38:59it usually ends up faster
39:00because Jet's going to have
39:01to slow down right here.
39:02Aaron should be able to get around him.
39:04Oh, I like it.
39:05Now Aaron changes it up.
39:07He's on the outside.
39:09That's because Jet got on the gas
39:11and cried like cross-running him
39:12to block that.
39:13That was a heads-up ride.
39:14Love it.
39:15And Hunter Lawrence
39:16still in this fight as well.
39:19A lap and a half to go.
39:20A fantastic first moto
39:22here in Colorado.
39:26Yeah, you start to wonder
39:27did Aaron show his line?
39:28Was he not?
39:29Does he have another opportunity
39:31to pass another place?
39:32I do believe he does
39:33but he's got to be close to him.
39:36Jet's got more traffic.
39:37Yeah.
39:39That's Mitchell Harrison
39:40there in 19th place.
39:45Jet gets him.
39:51White flag coming up.
39:52Oh, I see Jet's got his lines back.
39:56Now watch
39:56see if he pulls that gap.
40:01And as a rider,
40:02you know,
40:02like,
40:03if I'm Jet Lawrence,
40:04I'm like,
40:04look,
40:04let me execute this next half a lap.
40:06If I can do that,
40:08then I can be calm
40:09on this last lap.
40:10But I just got to execute it.
40:11So you're probably going to see Jet
40:12try to be mistake-free,
40:14get around these guys,
40:15maybe try to put this race away
40:16and just survive that last lap.
40:18And now they're lapping well
40:19into the riders
40:20in the points.
40:23So these guys
40:23are in their own battles
40:24and they matter.
40:29Plessinger around.
40:31Tow match still lurking
40:32in fourth.
40:34But you see the red fender
40:36of Hunter Lawrence
40:36not out of the picture
40:38yet from third.
40:39Yeah,
40:39I mean,
40:40good ride by all these guys.
40:41They dropped it down
40:42to two 12s,
40:43two 14s
40:44and
40:44seems like they have
40:45that tug of war.
40:46But as I mentioned,
40:48Jet was able to execute
40:49that last quarter part
40:51of the track
40:51and look at the gap
40:52because he knows
40:52he's not as fast as Aaron
40:54in this other section.
40:55But because
40:56he was able to execute
40:57that part,
40:57now he has a gap.
40:59Just needs to manage
40:59this thing.
41:01And Plessinger
41:02took a look back
41:03to measure his gap
41:04to Hunter Lawrence.
41:05Then Jet had feet
41:06off the pegs
41:07in that corner.
41:08Both able to recover.
41:11Last lap now.
41:13Yeah,
41:13I think that
41:13that look back
41:14was a sign from Aaron
41:15because of Jet
41:16was able to execute
41:17that last quarter part.
41:18Now he's still worried
41:19about Hunter Lawrence
41:20and so
41:20all that was dictated
41:22by the 18.
41:23Get back around
41:24these guys.
41:25All the confidence
41:25that Aaron Plessinger
41:26had,
41:27Eli Tomac,
41:28they were able
41:28to get around him
41:29and this kid
41:30was still able
41:31to find a way
41:32to get back in front.
41:33And if he's able
41:33to hold on to this race,
41:34man,
41:35this is going to be
41:35huge for Jet Lawrence
41:37moving forward.
41:38And the lap traffic
41:39really hurting Tomac
41:40who is now
41:41eight seconds back.
41:42He was lurking
41:43about 3.3 off
41:44from most
41:45of the second half
41:46of this one.
41:48A little bit
41:48different way
41:49for Jet Lawrence
41:50to do it.
41:50We've seen him
41:51get the start.
41:51We've seen him
41:52lead all the laps.
41:53Rarely did someone
41:54get him.
41:55This time Plessinger did.
41:56And it was.
41:58They all had him.
41:59I mean,
41:59his brother almost
41:59had him at the point.
42:00Eli at some point
42:01was there
42:02if he was able
42:02to get around him.
42:03But no matter what,
42:04they can keep trying.
42:05But this guy answers
42:06the bell
42:06and it's just
42:07a different way
42:08than we've seen him
42:08being able to do it.
42:10And when you can win
42:10multiple different ways...
42:11Oh no!
42:12Hunter has gone down
42:13to the last lap
42:14from third.
42:16I think he's messing
42:16with his throttle.
42:18He might have broke
42:18his throttle
42:19by the way he went down
42:19or he was trying
42:20to fix it.
42:21Looks like in that section
42:22where me and Eli
42:22went down together
42:24different years.
42:26Wow!
42:27Well, let's see
42:28where he ends up.
42:29They had a big gap
42:29over Justin Cooper
42:30who was fifth.
42:31So I think he might
42:32still hold on
42:33for fourth.
42:35Well, just like we said
42:36at the top of the show,
42:38the scoreboard
42:38continues to show wins
42:40for the 18.
42:42Oh, but they are
42:43so close.
42:45Yeah, they're super close
42:46but as much as
42:47how close they are,
42:48you know this kid's
42:49only getting better.
42:51Oh yeah, now he's
42:52showed multiple ways
42:53to win.
42:54Responding to the challenge.
42:57And Chet Lawrence
42:58takes Moto 1
42:59under pressure.
43:02At Thunder Valley,
43:03Plessinger so close.
43:04Now nine career
43:06second place finishes
43:07in 450 Motos.
43:09Tomac will inherit
43:10third with the
43:11late race crash
43:13from Hunter Lawrence
43:14and at least
43:15keeps himself in contention
43:17for the overall
43:17if he can bounce back
43:18in the second moto.
43:23Great race.
43:24It really was.
43:25That was a big old
43:26chess match right there.
43:28Yeah, all four
43:29are going to be able
43:30to say
43:30I'm in position
43:32for this one.
43:33They all had their moments.
43:34They all had their moments.
43:34And that was good sportsmanship
43:40between Lawrence
43:40and Plessinger.
43:41Hey,
43:42we're bad with the
43:44flabber stuff.
43:45Good.
43:46We're bad.
43:49I was ready for it.
43:50Yeah, I'm surprised
43:52that it's a lot of my
43:53blackout.
43:53I don't have.
43:58He's going to download
44:01with the team.
44:03I think we have a view
44:04of Hunter now.
44:08Okay.
44:09Last lap.
44:10All right.
44:11It's going down
44:11at top of our screen.
44:13Now those ruts
44:14are super long.
44:15It looks like he's
44:15starting to lose
44:16the front end
44:17and then it sticks on him.
44:18He ends up high siding.
44:19Not a fast crash
44:21but a costly one.
44:22Especially maybe
44:23overall talk.
44:24going from
44:25ends up fourth place.
44:27But you can see Jet
44:29talking about his bike
44:31with his hand movement
44:32talking about how busy
44:33the bike was
44:34and that's kind of
44:34what it looks like.
44:35So they go back
44:37and work on it
44:37but he got it done.
44:40Pressure was applied
44:41at one point.
44:42Even a pass was made
44:43but Jet able to respond
44:45and win again.
44:51Welcome back Thunder Valley
44:52a fantastic first
44:53450 moto complete.
44:55250 class race
44:56in second today.
44:57So first moto
44:58for those young riders
44:59including the fast qualifier
45:01Chance Hymas
45:02on the number 10
45:02is up next.
45:12So highlights
45:13of the first moto
45:14of the day
45:14at Thunder Valley.
45:15450's race first
45:16and what a race it was.
45:18Jet Lawrence,
45:18Hunter Lawrence,
45:19Aaron Plessinger
45:19battling early.
45:20Yeah, Aaron was
45:21really aggressive
45:22off the beginning
45:23and normally when
45:23the Honda's are out front
45:25nobody really gets around them
45:26but it was Eli Tomac
45:27probably the most aggressive
45:28rider in the beginning part
45:30tried his best lap after lap
45:32trying to get around
45:33Hunter Lawrence
45:33but he wasn't able to do it
45:34then started dropping back
45:35and then it was Aaron Plessinger
45:37he wanted to get in the game
45:38he saw Jet Lawrence
45:39wasn't getting away
45:40he was able to get around
45:41Hunter Lawrence
45:41and he made his way up
45:43to the 18 as well.
45:44And the 96 gets him back
45:46but it's not over
45:47that's how great the racing
45:48was here.
45:48Watch this.
45:49Yeah, they made about 10 passes
45:50it seemed like between each other
45:52so I thought that's what
45:53but AP was down
45:54to get to the inside
45:55and as quickly as he got
45:56around Hunter Lawrence
45:57he was on the back of Jet
45:58Lawrence within a lap
45:59the race was on for the lead
46:01and using the same line
46:02that you just saw
46:02pass Hunter Lawrence
46:03passes Jet
46:05gets the spot
46:06Yeah, Jet
46:07he made a small mistake
46:08coming out of that corner
46:09but I don't think Jet
46:10even knew about that line
46:11but that being said
46:12he was able to regroup
46:13he went out the AP
46:15and was able to get back
46:16on the inside of him
46:17and once you get the champ
46:19on the ropes
46:20you can't get him down
46:21and this was the last lap
46:22Hunter Lawrence going down
46:23out of third place
46:24might be costly for the overall
46:26ends up fourth place
46:27but nonetheless
46:28it was the 18
46:29coming across
46:30for another victory
46:31of the year
46:32Plessinger
46:34Hunter
46:35Eli
46:36they gave him
46:36all he could handle
46:37Jet Lawrence comes out on top
46:39with the last lap crash
46:41Hunter goes to fourth
46:42with Eli third
46:43Justin Cooper fifth
46:44Hampshire Webb
46:46Prado Savace
46:47and Malcolm Stewart
46:48ran out the top ten
46:48Webb
46:49and Prado battled
46:50the whole time
46:51Cody Shock 11th
46:52over Jason Anderson
46:53and he lost 13th

47:19in that moto
47:20Shet Lawrence
47:22one way or another
47:23comes out
47:24on top again
47:25well Joe Lawrence
47:29you win the moto
47:31there
47:31it's probably a little
47:32bit more exciting
47:32than you were hoping
47:33for
47:34but were you able
47:35to kind of tell
47:35who was behind
47:36because it changed
47:37several times
47:37between AP
47:38and your brother
47:38Hunter
47:38yeah
47:39at first I knew
47:42it was AP
47:42there
47:43and then I
47:43looked back
47:44and then it was
47:45Hunter
47:45and then I made
47:46a few mistakes
47:47and the next thing
47:48I see AP
47:49up the inside
47:49I was confused
47:50but my lines
47:52just weren't the best
47:53in that one
47:53AP and the lads
47:55had a few better
47:55lines
47:55I was struggling
47:56with my line choices
47:57and stuff like that
47:58and once AP
47:59got around
48:00he kind of
48:00showed me a few
48:01good lines
48:02and I picked up
48:03on and was able
48:04to get him
48:04back that lap
48:05and just
48:05because the biggest
48:06thing he is
48:07trying to carry
48:07momentum
48:08it's very hard
48:09to try and pull
48:09out of a tight
48:10turn
48:10and just gas it
48:11up a hill
48:12so
48:12but no
48:13it was a fun one
48:14AP rode great
48:15in that one
48:15it was fun
48:16to race against
48:16him
48:16and we're
48:17looking forward
48:18to the next one
48:18so when the track
48:19is this soft
48:20and is changing
48:20so much
48:21throughout the motos
48:22is it hard
48:22to understand
48:23and be able
48:24to find the fast
48:25lines as they're
48:26evolving like late
48:26in the moto
48:27as AP
48:27had that inside
48:28dialed in
48:29yeah
48:29no exactly
48:30and the track
48:31is changing
48:31every lap
48:32and the dirt
48:33is so soft
48:34especially
48:34that it makes
48:35it change
48:35faster
48:36so
48:37and it's very
48:38hard to move
48:38around
48:39because a lot
48:39of times
48:40you're coming
48:40out and you're
48:40stuck in it
48:41right to the
48:41next turn
48:42so
48:42makes it a little
48:43difficult
48:43so you have
48:44to figure out
48:44where you can
48:45give up some
48:46time to gain
48:46some time
48:47great job
