00:00Across from Colorado, it's the Toyota Thunder Valley National 450 contenders, the superstars of the sport, about to take the track for their final race of the day, and it all leads to the SMX playoffs.
00:13The Monster Energy upcoming schedule shows the playoffs and World Championship will be handed out in September.
00:17It starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway, then the Dome in St. Louis, and it all ends at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 20th, if you can catch that on USA Network.
00:30Chet Lawrence and Eli Tomac come into Pro Botocross after suffering injuries during Monster Energy Supercross, but that is where the similarities end.
00:42The 32-year-old veteran Tomac is an American from Colorado. Lawrence is 21 years old and hails from Landsborough, Australia.
00:50The four-time Botocross champion Tomac, who last won this title in 2022, is still at the top of his game 15 years into his prolific career.
01:02Lawrence, the 2023 champion, is just beginning his journey, and he's only lost one race overall in 18 career starts.
01:10He's already in the best-ever conversation, alongside luminaries like Tomac.
01:17The Yamaha-based Tomac is aggressive on the bike, a bulldog known for his beast mode style, and unrelenting in the pursuit of victory.
01:26But off the track, he's quiet, father of three, who prefers to let his results do the talking.
01:30In contrast to that, Lawrence, 11 years younger, is stylish on and off the track.
01:38He even attended the Met Gala while out with injuries earlier this year.
01:43But on the track, he's smooth and calculated, and his style on the bike is redefining what it looks like to go fast on a motocross track.
01:51This is the first season in which Lawrence and Tomac have faced off at motocross.
01:57Two champions from different parts of the world, separated by age, style, and experience.
02:03And it will make for a summer full of intrigue as they battle for the 2025 Pro Motocross Championship.
02:12And those two are lined up side-by-side, coming up in moments for their final race of the day.

02:23Within 10 minutes of a showdown in the 450 Class Moto 2, the superstars of Super Motocross.
02:30Those riders put on a great battle an hour ago in 450 Moto 1.
02:34This is Aaron Plessinger taking the lead from Jet Lawrence.
02:36Yeah, we were all shocked.
02:38We were talking about Eli Tomac, the hometown hero, coming in.
02:40But it was Aaron Plessinger that gave Jet Lawrence the biggest fight of the day.
02:44These guys were top four within five seconds the whole race.
02:47But it was Jet Lawrence coming out on top again.
02:49Yep, and then Hunter Lawrence, his brother, crashed late on the last lap from third.
02:53That allowed Eli Tomac to take over the third-place spot.
02:56But as you said, James, all four of them super close on speed in the hitch.

03:02It shows in the lineup side-by-side-by-side-by-side.

03:18Well, I've been talking all day.
03:19These track conditions have been changing for these guys all day long.
03:22He's got to be patient.
03:24You've got to have a plan, meaning you've got to set your passes up a corner or two ahead to make some.
03:29Be disciplined when you're making it.
03:31We see once you lose that tow, it's hard to make that time up.
03:33So there's my keys to the race.
03:35Chance Himes saw it.
03:36Let's see if these guys can get it as well.
03:38Yes, Himes with a 250 Moto 1 win, 450 Moto 2.

03:44Super Moto Cross World Championship continues here from Thunder Valley.
03:55Every 250 race complete, but they will be back at the top of the next hour.
03:59They're going to work on Hayden Deegan's machine, which appeared to be overheating in the first 250 Moto.
04:04So you can watch his second race live on Peacock for the Super Moto Cross video pass outside the United States.
04:11Again, that'll be a one hour.
04:12There's the mechanic, Brent Duffy, going to work.
04:15And they don't have much time to fix it.
04:16As for the 450s, let's go around the berm.
04:19James Stewart, what are you thinking?
04:20If I'm Jet Lawrence, I'm thinking, man, these guys, they like getting close to me.
04:24As you can see, number three, Eli, is next door.
04:26But, hey, you know what?
04:27They get close, but not close enough.
04:29Let me see if I can execute this start and start pulling away and win another Moto, another overall for the year.
04:36But there's a guy who would like to stop that from happening.
04:39And, wow, has he tried.
04:41And he came so close again in that Moto 1, the number seven of Aaron Plessinger.
04:46Surprisingly enough, has not won a Moto on a 450.
04:50Maybe he can get it done today.
04:52One more to go.
04:54Well, for Eli Tomac, he took a huge step last weekend, winning that first Moto.
05:00And I think he showed that Jet Lawrence has vulnerabilities.
05:03But vulnerability only matters if you capitalize on it.
05:06And that's the ask for Eli Tomac.
05:07He sits 20 points down in this championship.
05:10He's got to start reeling it in.
05:11And that has to start here in Moto 2.
05:13And a surprise here, JT.
05:16The 32 of Justin Cooper.
05:18Fast qualifier this morning.
05:20Seven starts at this track.
05:22Six podiums.
05:24Yet a distant fifth in the first Moto.
05:26We thought he'd be a contender for that podium or even the win.
05:29Has to bounce back now.
05:30And I'm Hunter Lawrence.
05:35Put some respect on my name.
05:36I know we're talking about my younger brother, Jet, but I've won these things.
05:39I've won a championship before.
05:41I was close to him.
05:42Let me see if I can execute a start.
05:43We know I'm good at starts as well.
05:45Let me try to get a W.
05:46Show other younger brother a way around the racetrack.
05:50And is that not the recurring theme?
05:52They always get close to the 18 of Jet Lawrence.
05:55But in the end, he has won 33 of the first 37 motos of his 450 motocross career.
06:03None closer than what we saw an hour ago.
06:05Plessinger even passed him for the lead.
06:07He was able to fight back.
06:10His track is so dynamic.
06:11Songriders all have good and bad parts of that first race.
06:15This is race two.
06:15We'll take those results, combine them with this, determine the day's overall winner.
06:20Fly racing, 30-second card is up.
06:22So less than 30 before the gates drop.
06:27Calm before the storm.
06:30Oh, it's about to happen.
06:32There's so much confidence.
06:33These guys got to know they've got a shot at knocking Lawrence off the top spot today.
06:38But can they finish?
06:39The heart rates begin to rise even before they ride.
06:47The nerves rise.
06:48The revs rise.
06:50The gate is down.
06:51It's Cody Shock going to grab the lead over Cooper Webb.
07:01Two Yamahas up front.
07:03Hunter Lawrence is third.
07:05Do not see Jet Lawrence with the leaders.
07:07No, that was a heads-up riding.
07:09When Cody Shock cut across, he actually clipped Hunter Lawrence's front wheel.
07:12He almost went down.
07:14So nice move by him.
07:16But it's the Cooper Webb, our Supercross champion, said, hey, don't forget about me.
07:20I know how to ride as well.
07:22And Cooper, yeah, on the outside, that number two, trying to transition from the stadium championship
07:27indoors and get his motocross game down.
07:30And he's challenging Shock, the private tier racer, backed by Club Amex, Muckoff, and FXR.
07:35Yeah, it looks like somebody went down on that second or bottom corner on that 180 in the news section.
07:41I wonder who that is.
07:42But that's going for the lead, James.
07:45Not quite enough.
07:47Yeah, but we see how these opportunities with how difficult this racetrack is.
07:51Once you get in a run, he might have an opportunity to try to go around Cody.
07:55Cody, welcome to the 450 class here.
07:57Yeah, doing it well for the team that gets a little bit of support from Yamaha, but not the full stuff like Webb has.
08:02Webb goes for the number one spot again, side by side.
08:07Yeah, he had that pass made, but then the way the angle was, Cody just rode around the outside of him.
08:13And he did.
08:14So the 37 gets it back.
08:16The crowd salutes him.
08:18Justin Cooper, fourth, and Hunter Lawrence in red there in third, moving up on the leaders.
08:24Yeah, I don't see Eli Tomac.
08:26He was 14th off the start.
08:28Plessinger is right behind Jett Lawrence.
08:32They're at about 7th and 8th.
08:34And you can see Jett there in the bottom box with Plessinger right behind him.
08:37Jett with the red fenders.
08:39Orange is Plessinger.
08:41Jett's trying to go up the inside, or Hunter, excuse me here, around the outside of Cooper at this point.
08:46Can he make the move?
08:49Hunter Lawrence on the 96.
08:50Oh, a little mistake slipped out of the corner.
08:53Man, these ruts are getting so difficult for these guys.
08:56His track's been changing every single time they've been on it.
08:58So it takes a little bit to get used to it.
09:01But I like what I see from the 96.
09:03He's trying to move forward because he knows younger brother, he's back there around.
09:06Oh, and Hunter Lawrence makes the move.
09:09Cooper Webb trying to fight back.
09:11But how about this?
09:12Cody shock.
09:12They get some help from Yamaha, like I said, but not the full factory equipment.
09:17And the rider out of Delaware continues to lead.
09:19But it is tightening up because Justin Cooper and Jett Lawrence are all in the fight now.
09:25Yeah, well, Cody keep riding like this.
09:26He's going to shock the world.
09:27He's going to have more opportunities to get some more factory stuff.
09:30Look at the guys behind him.
09:32Championship champions.
09:33Justin Cooper just made his way around his teammate.
09:37Yes, he's passed Cooper Webb.
09:38Yes, it's Justin Cooper on the 32 going after the 96 of Hunter Lawrence for second.
09:44But they're all trailing Cody shock.
09:47What a ride for this guy.
09:49And he is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
09:52And he'll tell you when he runs up front like this, and he's done it before,
09:56even he has to check himself a little bit.
09:57He'll surprise himself.
09:59He knows that he's running with the big names and he respects their resume.
10:03Aaron Placinger goes around outside of Cooper Webb.
10:05Things are starting to have happening fast for our reigning Supercross champion.
10:09And don't look now, but I see that number three right behind Cooper Webb.
10:13So he's made some time up, not letting these boys go.
10:17That's Eli Tomac, that is.
10:18Now, James, as well as shock is riding, is it helping keep that field together?
10:22Because they're all trying different lines.
10:24Is that helping Tomac, Placinger, Jett Lawrence stay in the fight?
10:27Yeah, 100%, but at the same time, Cody's riding really good.
10:32I mean, we see how difficult it is to make some passes around this racetrack.
10:35Hunter's trying it now, James.
10:37He's on the inside of shock.
10:38Oh, and Justin Cooper, he made the move as well.
10:41Yeah, Cody, which he had about another couple inches on them legs, a little short.
10:45He couldn't get them feet down.
10:46Small mistake.
10:47And as quickly as he was leading, he ends up in third place.
10:50And he's just going to look around and see Jett Lawrence.
10:52But look at Justin Cooper.
10:54Go for it, James.
10:55Yeah, again, a disappointing fifth in the first race.
10:58He wants the lead here in race two.
10:59Ah, nice move up the inside.
11:01He's got to be clean through here.
11:04Can he finish this pass?
11:06He's got to get out of that rut and close that door.
11:08Oh, they almost touch.
11:10And Hunter Lawrence able to wrestle it back away.
11:14Cooper comes back at him.
11:15All right, this is game.
11:16Let's see what happens.
11:17Let's see if Justin Cooper decides to stay around the outside, slingshot it,
11:20or he's going to cut.
11:21But Hunter Lawrence closes that door.
11:23And somehow Jett Lawrence has slipped into third.
11:28This is fantastic action.
11:30Yeah, what you're going to watch is Justin Cooper setting up a pass
11:33and all the different angles he's going to have to take.
11:35He's going to have to be on the outside here to set him up on the inside.
11:38We know this next section, these guys have been struggling here.
11:41If Hunter Lawrence gets stuck on the inside,
11:43Justin might have an opportunity to go around the outside of him here.
11:45Justin Cooper out of New York.
11:48He's yet to win one of these 450 motos on that number 32.
11:52He's got a golden opportunity, but he's got to deal now with both Lawrence brothers
11:57because Jett has joined the party.
12:00JT.
12:00I think Jett is going to remain pretty patient here, Weege.
12:04He's watching these two go crazy out front.
12:06Justin Cooper launching down the hill, taking the lead.
12:09The one thing that will change this entire scenario for Jett Lawrence
12:13is if AP or Tomac show him a wheel.
12:15Because as of right now, he has no way to know where those two are.
12:18He can only look at the guys in front of him and gauge himself off of that.
12:21So watch for AP and Tomac.
12:23They're in their own battle in that bottom box.
12:25If they come up and are able to pressure Jett, the entire game will change.
12:28Yes, they need to get around Cody Shock, who's still holding strong in fourth.
12:32You see him in that high-vis green gear in the bottom box.
12:35Meanwhile, the Lawrence is ganging up on Justin Cooper.
12:39Yeah, now he's getting jumped by the brothers up in here.
12:41But Justin Cooper was our fastest qualifier by over a second.
12:45So he has some pace.
12:47And yeah, that fifth place, that first moto is definitely not what he wanted.
12:50But we know this track, if you're not in tow, you lose a lot of time.
12:54So Justin might be a lot faster as he's watching Eli Tomac gets around Cody Shock.
12:58up the inside.
13:00And Plessinger did as well, James.
13:02So Plessinger and Tomac, they have the speed to get to the front.
13:05Can they make that gap close and make it a five-rider battle for this lead?
13:12Yeah, they have to because the way this racetrack is, if you lose the tow to the leaders,
13:17you're going to have that gap about 50 seconds.
13:19As we watch, it's like Eli Tomac is going to try to get up the inside.
13:23We watch Justin Cooper and Hunter Lawrence go to the lap before the same scenario happens.
13:27And so it's going to be important for these guys not to slow each other down and make sure
13:30they keep that gap and moving forward.
13:32I think they're closing.
13:33I think Plessinger and Orange, the red gear there of Tomac, they are catching the lead trio.
13:39This is an incredible setup.
13:41Is it the racetrack that is breeding?
13:43Everyone is having good and bad moments throughout the races.
13:46Oh, 100%.
13:47You've got to give the track crew a lot of credit here at Thunder Valley.
13:50When you make some changes, sometimes it gets a little dicey.
13:53You never know how it's going to play out.
13:55But so far, this racetrack has been very racy for these guys.
13:58A lot of opportunities to pass.
14:00And I believe we're going to have some more passing here coming up real soon, Jason.
14:04Yeah, well, these are the two most popular riders in the field.
14:07Cowboy, we call the number seven of Aaron Plessinger.
14:11Everywhere we go, you see the photo there with the cowboy hat.
14:14He is so loose, so wide open at the races.
14:18And then Tomac has the fans because this is his home state.
14:20If they can get to that lead trio, this place is going to go crazy.
14:25And they can see Jet Lawrence ahead of them.
14:27And they're catching him.
14:28Yeah, they're starting to close.
14:30And it's giving them Eli confidence.
14:31But he was in the same position earlier in the first moto, not being this close to Jet Lawrence.
14:36But Hunter Lawrence was there, and he couldn't get around him.
14:39And we saw what ended up happening.
14:40So whatever Eli does, he needs to just keep that momentum going.
14:44Just try not to get stuck behind Aaron Plessinger.
14:46He might try to make the move up here.
14:47It might happen.
14:48It's the biggest jump on the track.
14:53Here's the fan section.
15:01They jump downhill.
15:02Meanwhile, Justin Cooper James just threw down a 2.12.
15:06Fastest lap of the race.
15:08And he's opened up a second and a half advantage over Hunter Lawrence.
15:11Look at him go.
15:12No, he's riding really good.
15:13And when you think about Justin Cooper, the way he rides a motorcycle is just what we witnessed in the 250 class.
15:18And Chance Hyman is very patient, very light on the motorcycle.
15:21So Justin's going to be able to maybe run these lap times and not be taking too many chances,
15:26which is going to make Jet Lawrence and Hunter Lawrence have to push.
15:30When you saw with Hayden Deegan, mistakes, they'll come up and bite you if you end up overriding his racetrack.
15:36Now the brothers from Australia, Hunter and Jet Lawrence, but in a fight for second behind Justin Cooper.
15:42And these two have been duking it out for the better part of a year now in the 450 class.
15:48But can they keep Justin Cooper in sight?
15:50Will, he's riding very well.
15:53He's riding very well.
15:54And team manager Rich Simmons thinks he's going to be doing better than he was this time last year.
15:58What does that mean?
15:59It means he'll be able to keep this kind of pace up late into the motor.
16:03He said last year he was able to do this for 25.
16:0625 minutes and then he had nothing left.
16:08He said his fitness is considerably better than it was last year.
16:11So he says now he's got a full 30 in him, but we've got to see him out front to do it.
16:16We've got this scenario.
16:18He also added on top of that.
16:19He's like, I know his look.
16:21He's a quiet guy.
16:22He doesn't say too much.
16:23He's like, when he comes in qualifying, practices in the morning and he gives me that look,
16:28he's like, I know confidence is there.
16:30And that's what he told me he was seeing today.
16:33You can see it, Will.
16:34He has a two and a half second lead now.
16:36And this fourth pack, the Lawrences, Plessinger and Tomek are battling, yet they're not able to catch Justin Cooper.
16:46Yeah, Justin Cooper is getting away from these guys.
16:48And the more they start racing each other, that's going to allow Justin Cooper to be able to get that gap.
16:53And, Will, I saw that same look as well when Justin Cooper and after Tom qualifying.
16:59Oh, Cody Shock, early race leader.
17:01That was a great Cinderella story.
17:02He has gone down from sixth place.
17:04Looks like he's okay.
17:07Yeah, it looks like that's almost at the top of the track.
17:10But look at Eli Tomek.
17:11He's got to be able to make a move.
17:13And I think once he does that, man, I think he'd get him a lot of confidence because whoever he's been next to in the motors,
17:19he hasn't been able to get around them, which is frustrating for a guy like Eli Tomek, for sure.
17:25The four-time 450 Pro Motocross champion Tomek is back.
17:30Missed this race the last couple of years with injuries.
17:32Now he's on the inside.
17:34Makes the move up, Plessinger.
17:36Yeah, he saw it.
17:37Now watch how close.
17:37He's going to, how quickly he catches Jet Lawrence.
17:40He might be able to catch him before Jet even realizes, which is going to be hard because how loud that Yamaha is.
17:46Well, this is what Tomek's been waiting for all day.
17:49Finally, he's right behind Jet Lawrence.
17:51He couldn't quite bridge that gap in the first race an hour ago.
17:54Still 18 minutes and two laps to go.
