00:00Fire is last year's race winner. That's Chance Hymas. Today's qualifying is powered by Maverick and the Honda Man getting it done. Hymas has been fast all year. The question is can he turn that speed into results at the end of the race? So maybe James Stewart can give him some advice. KTM keys to the moto.
00:17Well, Chance knows how to go fast, but I think the key today is going to have to be patient. As we witnessed in that 450 class and those highlights, these guys got to plan these passes out. You got to be disciplined. I know you want to get aggressive when you get close to somebody. You want to go in there and try to make that move, but you got to plan them out. It's checkered. Chess, not checkered out here for sure.
00:36Well, this was outside the game plan last week. So fun to see the privateer Lance Cobush back by Smith Pro Rodeo's lead. Gave a little salute to the fans early. Then got into a battle with Hayden Deegan. This is all last week in California. Here's Cobush on the 195 taking the lead from Casey Cochran. This rider is relatively not well known. So for him to lead, that's exciting enough. I said he saluted the fans when he got the lead. Watch Hayden Deegan. He'll do the same thing as he passed him back.
01:05They saluted each other over the jumps. There's Deegan getting by and he has been awarded with $2,000 from Rocky Mountain ATV MC as the privateer pick. A good reward for that performance last week. Cobush is on the gate for this, trying to prove he can do it without the high dollar factory motorcycle equipment.
01:26So the rider's on the line. The race will be 30 minutes and two laps. 40 racers on the gate. It's time to go. Rebs are up.
01:34Gates down.
01:40The long uphill climb begins and it is Hymus. Now the fast qualifier and the early race leader.
01:46Well, we've seen him being out front the first couple motos and had some issues. So let's see if he can clean that up. After last week, we can have him food poisoning. Hopefully he's 100% hill because he's going to have to be.
01:56At number three, Hayden Deegan's in third place already.
01:58And the multi-time Supercross and World Motocross champion from France, Tom Bial on the 16 is second. So two of Deegan's primary rivals in front of him.
02:08Yeah, and if you go back to last year, Tom had one of his best rides here at this racetrack. So this track being the way it is with all these rides, if he can hold Hayden Deegan off, which is saying a lot, I think he might have a chance to do this because this track is going to set up well for him.
02:21And Deegan also getting some pressure from a Thrasher-type master pull and the 107, the Danish rider, Mikkel Harrop. And Harrop's moving up. Same with the yellow fenders, challenging Deegan on the outside.
02:35Yeah, well, they saw what happened in that 450 class. Everybody wants an action of the champ. And Hayden Deegan's in a tough spot because he's got Tom Bial with him and he's got this guy trying to get around him. And they know they got to make Hayward a sunshine early in this race.
02:47Now headed to the other side of Thunder Valley, and it's usually where the fans come to life on the hillsides.
02:59And a little bit of home cooking for Hymas, the race leader, at least in the feel of it. Honda actually sent a bike and he got to go back home to Idaho, where he is from, to ride familiar terrain, a little bit of elevation there.
03:11Normally he rides in Florida, so he's prepared today and looking good as he pulls away. Deegan now challenging the 16.
03:18Of the owl.
03:18Well, whatever home cooking chance is getting, he needs to eat it all the time because the boys out here riding, looking good early part in this moto.
03:26And how about Harrop back there at fourth on the Triumph, the English motorcycle, only the second year.
03:33That brand has raced in this championship and he's running up front.
03:36Now Deegan, power run around the outside for second place.
03:39Yeah, that was a nice line by Hayden. He actually started losing the front end, but was able to make it work.
03:44They cleaned up the track a little bit, so he was able to stay on the back of the bike, get that power down on that Yamaha.
03:49We know how fast that bike is.
03:51There you see the gap between Himes and Deegan, and these two are rivals in every sense of the word, not just on the track, but wars of words off the track.
04:04And they might hook it up here today.
04:06Yeah, as quickly as Chance was able to get away, Hayden reeled that gap in really quick.
04:11So was that about Chance relaxing or Hayden Deegan just really started pushing in the gap, pushing that pace early in this race?
04:22So Himes, who has been fast all year, second time in three races, he's had the fast qualifier award.
04:29The problem is he's not been able to be strong all the way to the end of the motos, had food poisoning last week,
04:35couldn't even compete in the second race of the afternoon in the heat of California.
04:39I checked him with the team, he's feeling much better this time.
04:42Will, what are you hearing?
04:44I was talking to his dad, Chris Heimer, who's programmed there for Chance, asking about last weekend, what the reset's like.
04:52And he said, look, I just pulled him aside and said, let's focus weekend to weekend.
04:56What happened, happened.
04:57You can't help it.
04:58You got sick.
04:59Let's presume that kind of DNF of the season is out of the way.
05:02You just got to get the win.
05:04He won his first career moto win here this weekend.
05:07So he said, you've got that to lean on, you've got good vibes here.
05:10Just go and get it done.
05:13Well, Will, if it is going to truly be a week-to-week thing, you could not ask for a better race for Chance Himes to get back to form.
05:20And rounds where you've done well in the past.
05:22You know, he got that moto win here last year.
05:24You get off the plane, the air smells a little better, the sun's a little brighter, a little pep in your step.
05:28And that's what we've seen from him so far today.
05:31He was the fastest qualifier.
05:33He gets the hole shot.
05:34He's leading laps.
05:35And now he just has to finish and reproduce what he did a year ago.
05:39And he looks fantastic so far doing exactly that.
05:43Look at this.
05:44Thanks, JT.
05:44James, he's pulling away from Deegan.
05:46Yeah, and that was all set up, that bigger sweeper section, because he was able to hit that tabletop as we were watching the 450 class with Jett Lawrence.
05:54And, man, you have to commit, and he committed, and he had so much momentum going around that whole corner.
05:59I think he probably pulled a second on those guys right there.
06:02Then back to this battle for four.
06:03So Harrop on that triumph, running well, but under pressure now from Ty Masterpool, rider out of Texas in green.
06:11And he's been fast on this track in the past as well.
06:13Yeah, I was going to say that, you know, Ty Masterpool on the Mitch Payton Kawasaki, the green bike, number 26.
06:19When you think about him, he feels the same way as Chance when he comes at his racetrack.
06:23He's had some great rides and great finishes.
06:24So just as JT said, the air smells better.
06:27The eggs this morning was great.
06:29I'm going to go out here and race.
06:30But he's got to get around the number 107 in front of him on the triumph.
06:36Masterpool was also sick last week, and he said he's not quite 100%, but he doesn't think it's going to affect him in the races,
06:42because, to your point, he feels so good on this track.
06:45He knows this is an opportunity for a great result.
06:49And Masterpool needs it.
06:50He had been a privateer racer for years, finally got the call from this high-budget team last year,
06:55and he is trying to show with the good equipment what he can do.
06:59They're right around the 26.
07:00Yeah, it's amazing what a win or good finish is when you show up at the track.
07:04That's an instant antibiotic at that point.
07:07So these guys are definitely getting that nice little line right there by Masterpool.
07:13As for Harrop riding well, the Danish rider racing in America for the first time, Will.
07:18That's right, doing all of this for the first time, Jason.
07:20I was having a chat with him earlier before qualifying today.
07:23He said, what's the big difference here for you riding in the U.S.?
07:26He said, well, first of all, the intensity up front in the early laps.
07:30Well, he's getting that done.
07:31He said, the second thing is we don't get any time on these tracks.
07:34He's like, this is my first visit to all of these venues, all of these tracks.
07:38Sending MXGP back home in Europe.
07:41He's like, we have an hour just on a Saturday to try and figure it out, work out the lines.
07:45He's like, here, not so much.
07:46So he is learning every single one of these tracks as he goes through the motocross season this year in 2025
07:51on that filling ride there for Jelly Swole on the Triumph, guys.
07:56Thanks, Will.
07:56Was that Deegan as we go back to second place?
07:58Yeah, he was off track, wasn't he?
07:59Yeah, except that line, that inside line in the corner before, it looks like he's starting to get a hook on it.
08:04I'm assuming that Hayden probably hooked it and went off.
08:06No harm, no foul.
08:08But, yeah, you know, for these guys that's coming over to Europe, it's hard to learn a track
08:12when you've got these young kids out here just going wide open, just letting it happen.
08:17So here's where Hayden is starting to close in on Chance Hymus.
08:21He goes in here.
08:22Let's see what happens here.
08:24Oh, nice save.
08:25Front end goes over that berm.
08:27You can see the berm kind of collapsed on him, and his front wheel popped out, loses the front wheel,
08:31but nice save by the number one, and he's still right there.
08:34Yeah, explain that when you say that berm collapses.
08:36Yeah, so basically the top of the berm, these guys, as you can see these ruts,
08:40as these 40 riders come by, it starts falling apart, so it's like having an ice cream cone
08:45and the head of it falls off, and that's what happens off the top of these bumps.
08:49His ice cream cone, the ice cream fell off the cone for him.
08:52Yeah, going off the track when you're trying to catch a leader,
08:55probably about as big a bummer as losing the top scoop on the ice cream,
08:59so he has to reset and go back after Hymus, who is now 2 1⁄2 seconds up.
09:03Oh, Tom Vial, the Frenchman, from third of the state, and Harrop's going to get him.
09:08Yeah, man, that's not what Tom wanted.
09:09He was just sitting behind Hayden, a couple seconds behind him,
09:12so definitely a tough break, and so far this year has been really tough on the 16.
09:17He came in after winning the 250 Supercross title in the last race,
09:23dramatically, now he comes in his championships expecting to be a championship contender
09:29and just having some DNFs and another fall,
09:31so we'll see if Tom Masterpool can try to get around him as well.
09:35And that's another thing Harrop has mentioned, just relentless how deep the field is
09:39in this 250 class, Vial and Orange learning that.
09:42A mistake, Harrop gets him, and Masterpool is right there to attack as well on the 26.
09:47Yeah, when a rider goes down, when you're in Ty Masterpool's position,
09:51you want to try to get him while he's getting back up,
09:54trying to get his goggles and get his everything back going.
09:57You want to attack him right there because Tom's not that focused on moving forward.
10:00Right now, he's just remembering what happened.
10:02Great opportunity to get around there as Tom Masterpool will try to get him around.
10:05And he might.
10:07Masterpool will be on the inside for the next turn and makes the pass.
10:11Yeah, that's a good move by him.
10:12He knew he needed to get around him now.
10:15And Masterpool's breakout ride came at this track two years ago.
10:18He's in the big class, the 450s.
10:20Again, was on a low budget, didn't have the private tier team,
10:24didn't have the full factory motorcycle.
10:27Went five and four in the two motos.
10:29That really reannounced that he could be a player.
10:32He'd always been fast as an amateur.
10:34Then last year, got the upgrade to the factory Kawasaki team here in the 250s.
10:38And he wants that podium fourth right now with Harrop in third.
10:42Yeah, absolutely.
10:43It's good to see Ty back.
10:44And after a couple years of some injuries, you know, you go back even before that.
10:47I mean, this guy was, you know, maybe not as, you know, decorator as Hayden Deegan
10:51coming up as amateur, but he was another kid that was supposed to come up
10:54and be a threat for winning his titles.
10:56But injuries and sideline, sideline this path.
10:59And so to have another chance on this pro circuit Kawasaki is really cool to see
11:03and he's making do with it.
11:04His parents come from the world of alpine skiing and even snowboarding.
11:10His mom, a champion.
11:12His dad, a champion Olympic level coach.
11:14And they have taught their young athlete, Ty Masterpool, and maybe no surprise,
11:19he excels here at elevation, attacking for third.
11:24Yeah, he's been trying to get around for a couple laps now.
11:27He might have the position.
11:29Almost, James.
11:31Good job by Harrop on the 107 to hold him off.
11:33Yeah, you're probably wondering why didn't Ty just stay on the gas,
11:36but those ruts are a lot deeper.
11:38You can't see it from his camera angle, but those ruts are really deep
11:41for those guys to have hesitation on there.
11:43I like Ty's line again on that inside.
11:45Suggestion lines, right?
11:47Yeah, those track markers, they're flirting with it at least.
11:52And Masterpool not quite able to make the move.
11:57Up front, no change in the gap.
12:00Two and a half second lead.
12:02Pymes over Deegan.
12:05Gap just stabilizing it up front.
12:08I think Hayden Deegan, as we've been watching him, he usually gets to the 15-minute mark
12:11and then really starts to put the hammer on, see if that's the same thing that happens today.
12:16Yeah, see the countdown clock top left of the screen of the 30 minutes.
12:20And then it'll be two laps to go when that expires.
12:23But Hymas, now Deegan can't even see him on some of the longer sections of the track.
12:28Yeah, I wonder, did Hayden make a mistake because they're from the lap time.
12:32He's only about two and a half seconds behind Chance Hymas, but it's a lot farther down.
12:39So Chance Hymas, can he be the one to break Hayden Deegan's win streak?
12:43He's 4-0 this season.
12:45Hymas, looking to end that.
12:47Stay with us.
12:48He's 5-0.
13:02He's 6-0.
13:04He's 5-0.
13:08He's 6-0.
13:12He's 6-0.
13:18Let's go.
13:48Let's go.
14:18Let's go.
14:48Let's go.
15:18Let's go.
15:48Let's go.
15:50Let's go.
15:52And while we were away at break, there was a change in third.
15:56You're going to see Deegan coming through here in second place.
15:59Time Masterpool was able to wrestle the third place position away from Nikol Harrop.
16:04And we'll show you how he made that pass.
16:07It's an aggressive move, by the way, for Masterpool to get it done.
16:10And you'll see the gap, though, as Masterpool, he made that pass, but he's way back as far
16:20as the lead duo.
16:21Almost 15 seconds between this rider, the third place runner, Masterpool.
16:26So it is down to Deegan and Hymas, it appears for the race win with that battle for the podium.
16:32Well, it means a lot, too, and that's why Masterpool made that aggressive pass, and we'll show it to you here.
16:37Masterpool and Harrop.
16:38Yeah, this is that new part, the new section right off the start.
16:46You're going to watch Ty.
16:47He's going outside.
16:49McHale goes on the outside.
16:50Ty just squares that thing up, goes straight to the exit of it.
16:53Nice move by him.
16:55You would think that's aggressive, but it's the only way he can make that pass.
16:58It was a nice move by him.
17:00It's like he wanted to go to the inside.
17:01No, I'm going over there, square it up, hit him on the break so he can't cut back underneath you.
17:05That was the pass at third place.
17:08So Masterpool out of Texas in the third.
17:11Harrop and Michael Moseman battling fourth and fifth.
17:14Halfway through this moto, 15 minutes down, 15 to go.
17:18A reminder that Monster Energy is available at Maverick.
17:22And Masterpool's got to keep pushing because that Harrop-Moseman-Vial battle behind him,
17:28they don't want to let him off the hook.
17:30Yeah, it's a tough position to be where Ty is because he doesn't have anybody to chase.
17:35He's so far behind the two in front of him, and the guys behind him are chasing him.
17:40So it's hard to just really try to push forward.
17:42As you can tell right there, he's looking back.
17:44So it's going to be tough for him to try to hold these guys off as this race goes on
17:49because they've got the rabbit in front of him.
17:51Yeah, and the rider that's doing the chasing is Michael Moseman.
17:54That was his home race last weekend in Northern California.
17:58He got to fourth, just like this, and crashed.
18:01He said he wanted that podium in front of the home track fans and was going for it.
18:06He's back in the position right now.
18:07Here's Moseman.
18:08Yeah, and you go back to the injury this guy had.
18:11I mean, he was basically retiring.
18:13This guy broke his neck.
18:14Now he's back out here competing at the highest level with all these guys.
18:17So really cool to see Michael out here.
18:19And as you mentioned, last weekend he was in that top four.
18:22Goes down late in the race.
18:23Let's see if he can hold on to it.
18:25And another rider on the move in green, Garrett Marchbanks.
18:28Man, he does not get the starts.
18:30But, boy, can he push late in the motos.
18:32And he is challenging the owl.
18:34Yeah, I feel like when you're in a position where Garrett, you're not usually getting the starts.
18:38Once you get that momentum, that ball rolling, and you're getting passing,
18:41you start just getting that confidence.
18:43And when you catch these guys, you just want to be like, why are you in my way?
18:46So Garrett might be able to get around these two.
18:49And his teammates right in front of him is still not too far ahead.
18:51Maybe he can get on that third place.
18:54Marchbanks veteran out of Utah.
18:56Well, look, they've closed right to Moseman.
18:59Moseman in the blue gear.
19:01Three-rider fight for fourth.
19:04Yeah, Moseman comes up short.
19:05Oh, and something's going on with him.
19:07Yeah, a couple of mistakes.
19:09Didn't clear the jump.
19:10Vial and Marchbanks and Moore are going by.
19:13Not sure what happened to Moseman.
19:15Meanwhile, Marchbanks not asking questions.
19:17He's just making passes.
19:19He's around Vial.
19:20Yeah, he's like, thanks.
19:21I don't know what's going on, Michael, but I saw the special over there.
19:23It's the bogo special.
19:24I'm getting two for one right here.
19:26He's got both of them.
19:27He's see his teammate a few seconds in front of him.
19:29Let's see if I can track him down.
19:32So how about this?
19:33Marchbanks up to fourth, Will.
19:35It's been such an impressive start to the season.
19:38His best start on a 250 so far, Jason.
19:41And talking to him earlier, I got to speak to Brock Tickle, his new trainer since that sort of middle to end of February of this year as well.
19:50And the two of them just seem to be making an incredible team.
19:53I asked Garrett, you know, what was the secret sauce at the start of this season?
19:56And he just pointed it over to Brock.
19:58And then Brock said, I'm just working with him to be the best version of himself.
20:02I'm not trying to get him to be this guy.
20:03I'm not trying to get him to be that guy.
20:04I'm just looking at what he's doing.
20:06And Garrett said, yeah, it's true.
20:07All these things have kind of taken me by surprise.
20:09Things that I didn't know I had room for improvement on.
20:12I'm finding out that I am.
20:13The more we see the results coming, the more that gives me confidence.
20:16And the two are just, yeah, marching forward here.
20:19And just a great start to the Monaco season for me.
20:21Yeah, thanks, Will.
20:22And Brock Tickle, a former racer, used to race for this team.
20:25Won a Supercross title with him.
20:27So obviously his racing experience is working to help Marchbanks.
20:32And working his way forward is Deegan.
20:35In 10 minutes and two laps to go.
20:38And he is catching the leader.
20:40So the check-in with the riders wearing the fly racing gear.
20:43And that includes the race leader, Hymas.
20:46Dylan Schwartz running well in eighth on the Toyota Redlands, the Bar-X Yamaha.
20:52Rider DeFrancisco is 16th.
20:54Casey Cochran, Parker Ross also in the field.
20:57Deegan making a charge here for the lead, Will.
21:01And James, I'd like to know what your take on this is.
21:03During the break there, I had a quick chat with his dad, Brian Deegan.
21:06He said, look, what are you seeing about where Hayden is right now?
21:09And he said, he's just pushing too hard.
21:11So this track doesn't really allow.
21:12He's asking too much out of the bike.
21:14Oh, as he makes a mistake there.
21:16He said he's asking too much out of the bike.
21:17That's where these mistakes are coming from.
21:20He said he has the fitness.
21:21So let Hymas come back to him.
21:23He said, basically, he's got to take it down a notch.
21:26I don't know what your thoughts are on that, James.
21:27Yeah, I mean, I agree with Brian.
21:29And I think what Hayden's been able to do all year so far is when he gets to 15 minutes,
21:35he starts climbing his way up.
21:37So in theory, you know Chance knows that.
21:39So at some point, if I'm Hayden Deegan, I feel like these guys are really mental.
21:43Chance is probably going to start thinking about me when that 15-minute mark comes through.
21:47So Brian is probably telling him, you know, thinking in his head, wants to tell his son,
21:51hey, just be patient, Hayden Deegan, that is.
21:53Be patient because this race is going to come back to you.
21:56And as many as mistakes that we saw Hayden make when we've been watching him,
21:59he's still closing that gap back on Chance Hymas.
22:01And I think that's all set up to how these previous races have been going at that 15-minute mark.
22:06Yeah, James, you mentioned the riders know each other and the confidence that that leads to.
22:11Look, Hymas is way back in the point standings already after the bad race last week when he was ill.
22:15But beyond that, what does this one individual race mean between these two and their rivalry?
22:22It would be huge for that number 10.
22:24If he's somehow able to hold Hayden Deegan off, then you start bringing Chance back into, you know,
22:29moto wins and race wins.
22:32But if Hayden Deegan is able to just get around him and be able to pull away, then, yeah, Chance rode great.
22:37He's been fast, but he didn't win.
22:39And I think that really – and Hayden knows that.
22:41So I think that's why you're probably starting to see Hayden make these mistakes because he knows how good Chance Hymas is.
22:47And the last thing you want to do is give a guy who has just as much talent as you any confidence
22:52because we know that's going to be the huge difference for that number 10 on RCH Honda.
22:56All on the line right now.
22:58Bottom box, see the 11 of Levi Kitchen.
23:01He was third in the race in California last weekend, but a bad start.
23:05He's been very fast on this track in the past, but now outside the top 10.
23:09Kitchen is trying to catch Joe Shimoda.
23:12That's Chance Hymas' Honda teammate.
23:14Shimoda has been second in every race this year, and now he's running 10th.
23:19Yeah, I've been watching the last times with Joe Shimoda, and he's been stuck behind that.
23:23A bad start, and we can see how hard it is to pass on this racetrack.
23:26So a tough position, but from Chance Hymas, this mechanic, I want to try to relay to him that Hayden's making the mistakes.
23:34So what you need to do, you're obviously, he's not going to get tired, Hayden, that is.
23:38So if you can keep pushing him and keep that gap, eventually these mistakes that Hayden's making might end up costing him
23:44and Chance is putting him in a position to make those, JT.
23:47Yeah, you know, you can see Hayden's definitely riding the women here, but for good reason.
23:51I think he knows right now if he can get to the back of Hymas, he can lean on his fitness.
23:56He has proven to be the fitness rider in this class.
23:59If he can up the pressure, you know, I think momentum and sentiment work both directions.
24:03They can work in a positive way for Deegan to catch up, and if Hymas feels Deegan closing, they can work negatively for Hymas.
24:09So these laps right here are super critical before we get down to the last two where Hymas can go full sprint.
24:14Oh, yeah, it's getting down to clutch time now between Hymas and his rival, Hayden Deegan.
24:19We're going to take one more break and then bring you the finish.
24:22Live motocross on NBC.
24:24Oh, yeah.
24:24Oh, yeah.
24:24Wow.
24:24We're going to take one more break and then bring you the action.
24:25And by the way let's take it.
24:25We're going to take one more break and then bring you the team.
24:26All right.
24:27Look at the feet.
24:28Yeah, we're going to take it.
28:31Like it sounds, something's up and then Hayden's starting to lay up a little bit.
28:39Yeah.
28:42Like losing power or something.
28:44Some double downshift at the top of that hill.
28:47So, James, explain how they use the clutch here.
28:49This is not just like a manual transmission car.
28:51They were using the clutch all the way around the track
28:53and why they're going to tell him to not do that as much now.
28:56Yeah, well, his bike was smoking and he used the clutch.
28:59I mean, just like anything else, I mean, you can wear a clutch out.
29:02And, you know, if you ever had a stick shift in a car, the things start slipping.
29:07You hear the bike and it really starts putting a lot of torque on the bike,
29:11which just has a lot of drag.
29:13And being at altitude with all this dirt, having Hayden Deegan wide open,
29:17it just makes the bike really hot.
29:19And as these things continue to heat up, things start happening.
29:22And I think that's what you're starting to see with Hayden's bike.
29:24The mechanic saying, get off the clutch, let this bike relieve.
29:27She needs a little break, honey. She needs a little break.
29:30So is Deegan in conservation mode here. It sure looks that way.
29:33Yeah, absolutely. I mean, his bike sounds like it's lost some power at this point.
29:38So I don't think he's trying to, at this point he is trying to save it,
29:42but it doesn't sound right as well.
29:44And the clock there, about two minutes and then two more laps left.
29:48So we're looking at two, three, maybe four laps left. JT.
29:52Well, just thinking about, you know, what the elevation does to these motorcycles.
29:56They're trying to find every ounce of power these teams are.
29:58And you see him not even jumping to jumps now.
30:00Either he's losing power, he's trying to save it or both.
30:03But these teams, they'll throw everything at it.
30:06They'll change the fuel maps.
30:07They'll add compression to the engine if they have anything left available.
30:11But a standard engine setup, they have thousands of hours of endurance
30:14to know exactly where the pressure points are.
30:16What they don't have is the same amount of research done at elevation
30:20with the most extreme engine setup possible.
30:23So that's where a guy like Hayden Deegan, a high-rever
30:26who's asking the most possible out of the engine,
30:28that's where you start to run into trouble and you start to ask questions
30:31that they don't have every answer to.
30:33So for Hayden, I think it's just bring it home.
30:35He still has a 45-second gap to Garrett Marchbank.
30:38Good to see another day.
30:40Yeah, that's a great point, JT.
30:42And for the fans out there, I mean, it's kind of like you drive your car
30:46and you start shifting it.
30:47And if you run that thing at a low gear, eventually you start smelling the engine.
30:52And that's exactly what these bikes doing.
30:54And Hayden Deegan's really revving his bike up and you start smelling that engine.
30:58And that's what he's trying to do to keep this thing alive.
31:01The good news is he's got a giant lead over the third place rider,
31:04who's now Garrett Marchbank.
31:05He has climbed from 13th to 3rd.
31:07As for Deegan and this team, you get an inside look behind the scenes at that squad.
31:12Go to the at Yamaha Motor USA YouTube channel beyond the gate.
31:16Again, a really cool story where they even talk to the riders
31:19and show you what they do during the week between races.
31:21As for Deegan, look, the win streak is going to be over here.
31:24But, James, I've got to imagine he's just trying to minimize the damage.
31:27If this bike doesn't get to the finish line, this entire championship will change.
31:31Yeah, I mean, I think he's trying to conserve it.
31:35But, again, it doesn't sound right.
31:37The way he's jumping, you know, as a rider, if you're just trying to conserve it,
31:40he would just put it in taller gear, continue to ride.
31:42But he's riding almost in fear that it's not going to make it.
31:46So this is a little bit different than just conserving it.
31:49As you can see him going up the hill, the bike has no power at this point.
31:52These riders he's getting around are lap riders.
31:54He's still firmly in the number two spot.
31:56And when you see Deegan not clearing the big jumps,
31:59every motocross rider's biggest fear is that the engine is going to get out as he's taking off.
32:03So is that Deegan getting worried about that?
32:06Is that a sign that he's afraid that thing could let go?
32:09Oh, absolutely, 100%.
32:10You'll see these guys, when they start worrying about the bike,
32:13though, even if they jump the jump, they'll jump front end high in case the thing does shut off.
32:18At least you want that front end up.
32:19And you can see Hayden Deegan on these bigger jumps.
32:22He's not jumping him.
32:23So, to me, that's more of a sign that he's not conservative.
32:26He's more worried about the thing shutting off on him.
32:28And, you know, look, you've got three laps, two laps after this.
32:32Yes, not clearing the jump.
32:34Even the lap riders here are able to make up a little bit of ground.
32:36So he is afraid.
32:37Yeah, if the engine locks up on the takeoff, going over the handlebars.
32:42Harrop, check back in with him.
32:44Great at the beginning of the race.
32:45He is in sixth.
32:47Drew Adams, a rookie, right behind him in seventh.
32:52Then Tom Vial up ahead in fifth.
32:54Been a great ride, though, for the rider on the triumph, but he's not done.
32:58Yeah, this is a great ride for him.
33:00He's been battling this whole race, and it's crazy to watch how big a gap these guys get
33:05between, you know, where Hayden Deegan.
33:07I mean, they're almost a minute ahead.
33:08Chance Himes is 52 seconds ahead of third place.
33:12You know, when you look at the lap times, yeah, they're going pretty quickly.
33:15But I just think that track position off the beginning part of the race, that start is super important.
33:20As we're watching Levi Kitchen and Joe Shimoda making his way up for eighth and ninth.
33:27Yeah, these are two of the front runners on the podium last week.
33:30Kitchen on the green 47 to 30 of Shimoda, a Honda racer out of Japan.
33:35Top three last week.
33:36That starts this week.
33:38They're eighth and ninth.
33:39Shimoda on the 30.
33:41Can he make up ground with two laps to go?
33:46Yeah, maybe he's able to get around Levi.
33:49It's going to be pretty hard to catch about 10 seconds down on through Adams.
33:54Great ride for the rookie as well.
33:56Seventh place.
33:57Yeah, Adams in seventh, the youngster out of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
34:02Meanwhile, these two teammates, Masterpol and Marchbanks, have been battling the entire race.
34:07Marchbanks was able to get him for third, but Masterpol not giving up.
34:11He wants that podium.
34:13Yeah, it's something about when your teammate comes around.
34:16You always find some energy to fight him.
34:18I always felt like my old teammate Tim Ferry, he raced me harder than anybody else at the racetrack.
34:23Ho it up, red dog.
34:25So, you know, Todd Masterpol definitely wants to go back out there.
34:28Garrett over here, be the top pro circuit.
34:31And the key to motocross is everyone races twice in a day.
34:34These 250 riders will return in an hour for their second race.
34:38And you combine the two results together.
34:40So they all know to finish third of the first moto and then win the second one,
34:44you might have a chance to be the day's overall winner.
34:46So this is critical right now.
34:48And then we are going to show you the second 450 class race in a moment when this concludes.
34:54So stay with us for the second 450 race of the day.
34:56They already raced earlier.
34:58It's non-stop action at one of these pro motocross races.
35:02But right now, Garrett Marchbank's out at Utah on the 36th.
35:07Trying to bring it home.
35:08Yeah, and it looks like Drew Adams was able to get around Tom Vial for fifth place.
35:12So you got three pro circuit, Mustang Pro Circuit bikes in the top five right there.
35:17Really good.
35:18Yeah, that is third, fourth, fifth of the teammates.
35:21Obviously got those machines running well at altitude.
35:23Deegan has lost.
35:25It's now a 34 second gap between he and Hymas.
35:28Marchbank's and Masterpool are still pushing.
35:31We know that Deegan is not with the bike problems.
35:34It took a gap that was about 50 seconds down to about 16 now.
35:40Yeah, they're coming.
35:42I mean, they're getting chunks of time out of them.
35:44It's almost 15 seconds they gained on the last lap.
35:46So do the math, which I'm not that good at it.
35:50They're going to get a little closer to what they are right now.
35:53Let's just say that.
35:54How about Chance Hymas?
35:56A week ago, food poisoning.
35:58He threw up after the first moto where he was leading and then finished 13th.
36:03Didn't even race moto two.
36:05What a recovery as he's into the last lap to try to win here in Colorado.
36:10Yeah, I mean, I'm really impressed with Chance because this race could have got away from him.
36:14And yeah, you could sit here and say Hayden Deegan has some bike problems.
36:18But if I'm Chance Hymas, I'm like, I put him in that position to heat that bike up.
36:22Try to run with old Chance.
36:23This is a chance we're going to take.
36:24Bike might not make it.
36:25So hopefully this is just a start of many more wins.
36:30The championship's going to be a long shot unless we get some help.
36:33But man, love this kid and what he's doing.
36:36And he had to watch his teammate, Jett Lawrence, go out.
36:38Showed him the wave.
36:39Yep, his teammate Jett Lawrence will be back in a moment for 450 Moto 2, which will come up right after this.
36:45But it's looking good for the Honda team right now.
36:47Two races in the books today, and it looks like they might have two wins.
36:50The young rider out of Idaho, 20 years old.
36:53And again, they let him go back to his home in Idaho this week to ride dirt and elevation a little more like this.
37:01Actually gave his dad the bike last week in California at the race.
37:04He drove it back home.
37:06Chance met him there.
37:08And a good chance to reconnect with the Roots.
37:10And clearly that has paid off.
37:12Yeah, something about them Idaho potatoes.
37:14Maybe some home fed.
37:16Can I say he's cooking?
37:18He's cooking.
37:19He's cooking right now.
37:20Cooking.
37:21So the win streak for Hayden Deegan will end.
37:24And the gap is down to just a few seconds between Deegan and the charging Kawasaki duo
37:29of March Banks and Masterpool.
37:31And he might not be able to fend them off with an ill motorcycle.
37:35And that could leave the door open for the day's overall for Hymas.
37:40Because they will be back in an hour for Moto 2.
37:43Hymas won his first career Moto at this track a year ago.
37:47He's going to win again.
37:49Chance Hymas takes the first Moto.
37:52And here is that battle.
37:54Deegan.
37:55Does he have enough left?
37:58Yeah, he's right there.
38:00Garrett.
38:01It's going to be close.
38:03Aw, dude.
38:04Hayden obviously picked up the pace.
38:06Because they've been by three seconds.
38:08You've got to wonder.
38:09Yeah, Deegan in the mint green jersey.
38:11March Banks on the green motorcycle.
38:13Yeah.
38:1536.
38:16Garrett might not even believe that.
38:17That's Hayden.
38:18He's probably thinking, nah, that can't be him.
38:20Yeah, how do I think of 45 seconds in two laps?
38:23He's trying to listen.
38:28Can he nurse it home?
38:31Last turn.
38:33Salvage job.
38:35Hayden Deegan second.
38:37March Banks third.
38:39Yeah, good route by Hayden.
38:40You can see Garrett came across.
38:41He was upset.
38:42I don't think he believed what he was believing.
38:44Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
38:46Cool.
38:47He was upset.
38:48He was upset.
38:49He was upset.
38:50He was upset.
38:51He was upset.
38:52He was upset.
38:53He was upset.
38:54He was upset.
38:55He was upset.
38:56He was upset.
38:57He was upset.
38:58He was upset.
38:59He was upset.
39:00He was upset.
39:01He was upset.
39:02He was upset.
39:03He was upset.
39:04He was upset.
39:05He was upset.
39:06He was upset.
39:07He was upset.
39:08He was upset.
39:09He was upset.
39:10He was upset.
39:11He was upset.
39:12He was upset.
39:13He was upset.
39:14He was upset.
