00:00So much on the line, revs her up, gets down.
00:09And the Hondas back to their usual tricks.
00:11Hunter Lawrence, Jet Lawrence, and where did Cooper Webb come from?
00:15Yeah, and Eli got a terrible start.
00:17I think he got caught up with Jorge Prada, but nonetheless, Eli was almost dead last
00:22going into that first corner, not the start that he wanted
00:24and not what he wanted to see with that 18 out front.
00:27And that's the usual position for Jet, who's going to try to jet away from Webb and Hunter.
00:34Then it is Justin Cooper, Jason Anderson.
00:37Next, Tomek is 26th.
00:43Oh, man, that's going to be tough for him.
00:45And we talked about the difference between Jet Lawrence being out front,
00:48dictating a race.
00:50Man, this is going to be a tough moto for Eli.
00:53Yamaha is battling here.
00:55Webb and Cooper, and look at Hunter Lawrence.
01:00We might have on the right side of the screen.
01:02Watch this replay.
01:03The start for Tomek.
01:06Yeah, didn't get the best to jump.
01:08And then, yeah, there you go.
01:09He gets cut off.
01:10And, man, he went in that first corner.
01:12He was dead last.
01:13Man.
01:14And he started up front in moto one.
01:16And he's got five less minutes to work forward here in moto two.
01:20He's 21st now, as you watch Webb.
01:23Yeah, depending on where him and Aaron gets up, Jet Lawrence can end up winning this overall.
01:27But it's a long race.
01:28And you've got to remember, it's five minutes shorter, so he won't have as much time.
01:32But if Eli, after that confidence he built in that first moto, I suspect him to be able to come up through this pack.
01:36Kind of reminds me of the beginning of Monster Energy Supercross when Tomek was there and healthy.
01:41He was super fast, but he had bad starts.
01:44Kept him off the podium quite a bit.
01:46Got to make up for it now.
01:49Yamaha boys still fighting.
01:51Yeah, I got a chance to talk to both of them yesterday.
01:54They were up here watching the guys rot.
01:58So, Cooper Webb, Supercross champion out here.
02:02He's like, man, it's too hot.
02:03I'm ready to go back indoors.
02:04And it looks like Justin Cooper has made the move on Cooper Webb.
02:09Watch R.J. Hampshire here in the replay.
02:12He gets caught up on Jorge.
02:14Yeah, just falls over.
02:16But, yeah, he ran in the back of Jorge right there.
02:18Costly, especially in the beginning part of these races.
02:20You lose so many positions.
02:22And this track's got brutal.
02:24Sorry, Tomek is now up to 18th, trying to make as many passes as he can early.
02:28It's Justin Cooper.
02:30Pours it on from second.
02:31And, yeah, Plessinger for the second in Moda 1, starting sixth here.
02:36So, this is falling back into the hands of Jet Lawrence for the overall win.
02:40Yeah, and I'm just going to be curious to see the difference between Jet, how he rods his race, being out front.
02:46Now, everybody's got to dictate.
02:47I'm assuming him, he's wanting to put a little bit of gap between these guys and manage it.
02:52So, Eli's goal is at least get up in that top three to try to salvage his overall.
02:56Yeah, if Tomek could get to second, he could still win the overall with a 1-2.
03:05So, Lawrence would be looking at a 3-1.
03:06There is Tomek, bottom box, 18th.
03:08Got a pack of riders in front of him.
03:11Let's move up the inside.
03:13Eli's got to be careful because these guys are all over the place.
03:16And when it's so hot like this, you almost, you want to be aggressive as RJ has issues in the same corner, almost goes down again.
03:24He's being aggressive.
03:25Yeah.
03:26He's passed three, four riders right there.
03:28Yeah, these guys, he's passed them before they even recognize he's there.
03:30So.
03:32And we'll keep watching this with the drone.
03:35He's ahead of Pat Sherell and Hampshire.
03:3914th.
03:40It's Harry Kulass here.
03:41He's actually backed by the Michael Sereno Power Sports, the same group that sponsors this race.
03:46So, a little home cooking for him and his squad.
03:48Let's send it down to JT.
03:50Watching Eli, and he's headed up towards the mechanics area where I currently am.
03:54And this is one of those moments for Eli where you don't even care what the mechanics board is going to say when you come by.
03:59You just press forward.
04:00You know no matter where you are, it's not far enough forward.
04:03So, he has essentially 21 minutes and a couple of laps to minimize the damage here on what's otherwise been a fantastic day so far.
04:12Yeah, absolutely.
04:12You don't have to look back too far.
04:14You remember what Chase Sexton was able to do a year ago.
04:16So, yeah, different circumstances, different heat, five less minutes.
04:21But I like what I see from Eli.
04:24I think that first moto, he's riding like he did in practice with that confidence.
04:27And you know he believes, man, I don't want this thing to slip away.
04:30Let me try to make my way up.
04:32Yeah, a year ago, Chase Sexton went down right here and then came from last to first in an all-time ride.
04:38And Tomac's trying to challenge some of that.
04:40But how about Licorcio, who we talked about before the moto, not making it easy on Eli.
04:45He's definitely not.
04:47Eli, he's going down the inside.
04:48They made some work.
04:50He gave the business right there.
04:52Yeah.
04:53The younger Eli might have slammed into him.
04:55But that's Aaron Plessinger in the bottom box.
04:58He has caught Webb and Hunter Lawrence in a fight for third behind Justin Cooper.
05:03Yeah, you know, I mean, again, it's a big move for the overall standpoint because Aaron's really in a tough spot because the 2-2 won't beat a 1-3 or 3-1.
05:13So he's really going to have to go up there and get Jet Lawrence.
05:16And that's going to be a tough ask.
05:17So it really comes down to Eli and how quickly he can move up.
05:20But still, good route by Aaron moving his way up to third place at this point.
05:23Can Tomac get to that group?
05:25He must get to second in the moto.
05:27He could still win the overall even if Jet Lawrence wins it.
05:31And how much does he have left?
05:33He's going to just leave it all out there on the racetrack right now.
05:38Pat Trail right in front of him.
05:40That is 11th place.
05:43Yeah, if he just keep that being aggressive, he'll make his way up just because these guys are going to start to fade.
05:48So he'll make that time.
05:50He just doesn't want that second place position to get too far away from him.
05:54It's actually Colt Nichols.
05:55Sorry, Pat Trail's teammate on the Twisted T, Suzuki, who Tomac's working on.
05:59I feel like at these points in the races, if you're Eli, anytime you're coming up through the pack,
06:06the one thing you want to just keep going is momentum.
06:09You don't want to get stuck behind a guy because then you'll start riding behind you.
06:12And it's that belief of being able to think that you can get up there is going to keep him going.
06:16And if he doesn't feel like that, then it's going to be a tough race for him.
06:19It's 15 seconds between Tomac and the second place rider, Justin Cooper.
06:24That is a huge gap.
06:25But as we saw last year with Chase Sexton, late in these second motos, if one guy's charging
06:31and everyone else is laboring, can make up big chunks, that's what Tomac's looking to do right now.
06:36Yeah, there'll be some points in these races.
06:38The difference between a guy that's winning or a guy that's charging in second and third place
06:43could be five seconds of lap towards the end.
06:45So at 15 seconds on most weekends, it's going to be hard, but maybe not in this heat
06:49if he can keep that momentum going.
06:52And now working on your brother there, Malcolm Stewart.
06:54This would be 10th.
06:59And it's a long championship.
07:01So even if he doesn't get all the way there for the overall win,
07:04every position is a championship point.
07:07It's been all counts right now for Eli.
07:09Yeah.
07:11This outside has been working for him.
07:12They can try to get over that hump.
07:14There he goes.
07:15Not losing that momentum.
07:18No.
07:19Now he's got Joey Savace right in front of him.
07:22Then Cody's shock.
07:23So he's closing in.
07:28Savace on the quad lock Honda.
07:31That is ninth.
07:32So track position, he's making up positions quickly.
07:36It's all about the clock.
07:38He's 22 seconds off of jet.
07:40And that's going to make him about 18 off of Justin Cooper.
07:46Yeah.
07:47But as you mentioned, championship-wide, every point matters.
07:50And at this point, you know, you were able to gain five points on Jet Lawrence at first moto.
07:55So big picture, you want to just make your way up, not throw it away.
07:58But, of course, emotionally having a chance to be able to win an overall straight up.
08:02Hottest point of the year, second race of the season.
08:05It would be huge for him.
08:06So you need to keep going.
08:08The bottom box there, Plessinger catching Hunter Lawrence.
08:12That is for third.
08:13They have put Cooper Webb behind them.
08:16And Tomac working on Savace.
08:17Oh, just listen to him go.
08:27Yeah.
08:31That's two laps in a row he jumped out the racetrack still.
08:34But Eli don't care.
08:37Aaron looks like he's trying to get up the inside of Hunter Lawrence on the bottom for third place.
08:43It's going to be tight.
08:45Hunter able to get to the left and block it.
08:47And they head downhill.
08:50Tomac next on his list.
08:51Cody Schock.
08:53Yeah, Eli's got a good pace because even though he's getting caught up behind these guys,
08:56he's still in the 159s and it's about a little over a second off of Jet Lawrence out front with clean air.
09:01So, yeah, he's about matching Justin Cooper.
09:05He's not losing too much, but he's not gaining.
09:07But that could change.
09:09We have not even run 10 minutes of this moto yet.
09:12Oh, wow.
09:13Walking the tightrope and making the pass on Schock.
09:16Yeah, you wouldn't think making a pass for eighth place to give you a lot of confidence.
09:21But the way he's making these passes, it's going to keep him going because it's a good feeling to blow around somebody on the outside of second moto.
09:29It's hyped you up.
09:29It's hyping me up in the booth right now watching this guy ride.
09:32It's giving some 20-24 Sexton feels coming through the pack.
09:35No doubt about it.
09:37And now it's Jorge Prado next.
09:40Plessiker still trying to solve Hunter Lawrence.
09:44They battled like this a week ago, doing it again.
09:47Yeah, he's on a revenge tour.
09:48See if Hunter can keep that gap behind him.
09:51But Rodden, definitely a lot better than he did that first moto.
09:54So you've got to wonder, is that just bike changes or track position?
09:57Either one.
09:59For Hunter.
10:00Yes, for Hunter Lawrence.
10:01Yes.
10:02Okay, so now Tomac to the rear wheel of Prado.
10:04And then it's Webb up ahead.
10:06It's a big pack.
10:06And he has caught them.
10:07Yeah, I don't think these guys will fight him too much.
10:13Once Eli gets close to him, they know what's on the line.
10:16And you can feel when a guy's just rolling.
10:17Either move or be hit.
10:19Either one.
10:20Oh, I think also with this heat.
10:23He's motivated to get to the front.
10:25They might be motivated to just get to the finish.
10:29Back to this battle.
10:32Plessiker made the move.
10:33Yeah, Aaron's riding really good.
10:35So Hunter tries to fight back at the inside.
10:40Can't do it.
10:41So Plessiker now looking at a 2-3.
10:45That would be second overall for the moment.
10:47Justin Cooper would be third overall.
10:49But Tomac is going to keep climbing.
10:55Jet Lawrence back to his old tricks.
10:57Managing the gap.
10:58Six seconds over Justin Cooper.
11:01We're going to show you the pass.
11:03Plessiker over Hunter.
11:05Lawrence.
11:10AP's going around the outside.
11:12I love this thing at Hangtown because it makes you have to choose.
11:15Now whether he gets on the inside here, Hunter Lawrence would probably try to sling up the inside.
11:19But AP had just different plans.
11:21They put a little bit of water down so they have more traction up there.
11:23Great move by him.
11:24How about this battle?
11:26Two teammates and another two teammates.
11:28Cooper Webb, Eli Tomac, Jorge Prado, Jason Anderson, two Yamahas, two Kawasaki's.
11:33This could be the critical juncture for Tomac right here if he can make quick work of this.
11:37Oh, no.
11:38He goes down.
11:39Yeah.
11:40Tough one.
11:40He was trying to get on the inside.
11:42You could see all those breaking bumps with that sand on.
11:44That was just more impressed with Jorge Prado because the last lap he was right in front of Eli Tomac and he was able to get around all those guys in front.
11:52So maybe the tire situation helped him out.
11:56Hey, look, you know Tomac was going for it.
11:58He was going for it.
11:59That's the bottom line.
12:00He was hanging it out.
12:01And this happened.
12:02Yeah.
12:02I mean, you could see the front tire just starts pushing right here, just starts sliding.
12:07And with this heat, man, that's definitely a momentum killer.
12:10Now he has to refocus and think about the championship.
12:13And that's where he's at.
12:14So tough break for him.
12:16And Chet Lawrence looking to regain control in 450 motocross ascended to JT.
12:26Well, guys, this is what Jet Lawrence does.
12:29Let's think about that first moto.
12:30I would argue that's the most vulnerable I've ever seen a healthy Jet Lawrence was in.
12:34Moto one, couldn't close the gap, didn't have the pace.
12:37It looked like the heat was definitely getting to him.
12:40And here we are in Moto two.
12:42He gets the start.
12:43Eli Tomac doesn't.
12:44Eli makes a mistake.
12:45And now it looks like Jet's on his way to finding a way to win this overall on a day
12:50where it just didn't look like he quite had it.
12:52And that has been the struggle that Chase Sexton has faced.
12:55That's what everybody's faced.
12:56And now Eli Tomac is having to deal with what Jet Lawrence does.
13:00And that is exert endless and relentless pressure through perfection.
13:05It hasn't been a banner day for Jet Lawrence.
13:07I think he would say the same.
13:08But at the end of the day, he might end up winning the overall, which is the same story
13:12we have seen so many times for the last two and a half years.
13:14And to further that point, JT, Tomac might move back forward again after getting up from the crash.
13:19But he's currently in 12th.
13:20Right now, he's going to lose 10 championship points to Lawrence today.
13:26Lost a couple last week as well.
13:29And this is on a day where Tomac might have been better than Lawrence.
13:34Halfway through this one.
13:36A reminder that Monster Energy available now.
13:38So for Tomac, you said he's got to shift the championship mode.
13:43Yeah.
13:43And I think for Eli, OK, if I'm going to set it up, I don't really think this finish right
13:48here, wherever he finishes, is really going to change him.
13:50I think he was able to find some confidence in himself, the way he won that first moto and
13:54the way he was riding the second moto.
13:55So for Eli, it's not going to change that much.
13:58But what it does change is this guy.
14:00Because at some point, he had to start worrying about, OK, Eli, beast mode, the way he rode.
14:06OK, I'm not going to be able to beat him on fitness.
14:07This guy's back.
14:08So if I allow him to get that confidence, he's going to continue to grow.
14:12But really, now I just think it changes Jet Lawrence.
14:15Oh, these guys are good.
14:16But I'm still able to win this race.
14:19And what he said in between the motos was that, hey, you know what?
14:21I wasn't there.
14:22I lost that toe.
14:23So because he comes out here and wins the second moto, if he's able to hold on to it,
14:27he can literally say that I didn't get the toe.
14:29That's the reason they was able to beat me.
14:31Because once I was out front, I pulled away from these guys.
14:34And it looked like everything else back to normal.
14:36And I'm going to win this overall.
14:38So I just think from that mindset, it really changes his attitude going more than Eli Tomac's
14:44moving forward in this race because of what's happening.
14:47Well, he said that at the very beginning of the show.
14:49How these riders will tell themselves what they need to to make the situation positive
14:53so Jet can take all the positives out of this now.
14:56Yeah, you can absolutely.
14:57And it is one of those situations when you have the chance on the road, you've got to knock him out.
15:01You can't, you know, get him down for the eighth count and he gives back up
15:05because he's going to still believe he has a chance.
15:07So you've got to knock him out.
15:08And this might be that opportunity that might be missed on this if it finished the way it is.
15:13Tomac 11th right now.
15:14Haley?
15:16What I'm seeing on the pit board to Eli Tomac on the last lap,
15:18was regroup on this second to last lap by it said need P6.
15:24So regroup and need P6.
15:26That's the message from his mechanic to Eli Tomac.
15:28Yeah, we would assume that P6 is just the math to get on the overall podium.
15:33Here's what's odd.
15:34Actually, right now, if you look at the championship points, he's third.
15:37Plessinger would actually be second to the championship.
15:39So that's the problem.
15:40Eli has ridden great in his first two rounds.
15:42But he's, if it ends like this, he's 19 points behind Jett Lawrence already.
15:48He's going to salvage some right here.
15:50We'll see how far forward he can go.
15:53Yeah, it's going to be a tough one for him because now that heat's going in and being five minutes less,
15:57I mean, he's still riding really good.
15:59But the position might be harder to get to P6.
16:03But still, a good day of riding for Eli.
16:05Looks definitely better than last weekend.
16:07But it might be an opportunity to miss, especially if he ends up 19 points down.
16:13So we'll keep tabs on Tomac.
16:15Meanwhile, we'll watch this one.
16:1617, Savace to 24 of Hampshire.
16:19This is 8th and 9th.
16:21A good ride by RJ.
16:23He went down early in that first lap.
16:24Then when Eli got around, he almost went down again.
16:27So he's made his way up.
16:28Now he's going after Joey Savace, which has been riding really good all day long.
16:35And it's riders like this in this pack that make it that much tougher for Tomac.
16:40We've been mentioning how deep the field is.
16:42I mean, these are great riders that are battling for 8th and 9th.
16:46And those are the guys he's going to have to pass back.
16:48Send it to JT.
16:49Just watching this battle.
16:51And the funny part of this, you know, Joey's a 450 veteran.
16:54RJ making his second ever 450 pro motocross race.
16:57He tries to make the pass in that slippery inside there.
17:00It would seem like Joey's the older guy and RJ's the new kid.
17:03But that's anything but the case.
17:05They're probably around the same age.
17:06RJ might even be older than Joey.
17:08So it's just an interesting wrinkle in what it doesn't feel like.
17:11There's the rookie versus the veteran.
17:13It's anything but that.
17:14No doubt about it.
17:15Hampshire's 29 years old.
17:16But just jumping into the 450 class full-time now and making the pass.
17:21Yeah.
17:21RJ has been riding really good all year.
17:24And as you said, whenever you can think around doing anything, it's obviously going to help you.
17:28I like what I see from RJ.
17:30And I think riding the 250 helps him out a little bit.
17:33Just being aggressive.
17:34And those guys are just aggressive in that class.
17:36So we'll see.
17:37Haley?
17:37It's worth noting that Justin Cooper, he has not faltering.
17:42He is maintaining his position and not letting Jet run away from him.
17:46And this isn't the first time we've seen this kind of scenario from Justin Cooper this year.
17:50Not just maintaining that position, but again, not letting the leader or the guy in front of him run away from it.
17:55So I think that's worth noting.
17:56I'm impressed.
17:56Yeah, thanks, Haley.
17:57Here's the 32.
17:58And he did go 159.5 the previous lap, which is faster than Lawrence.
18:02Now, I know people are going to hear that and say that that's what Jet does.
18:05Jet manages.
18:06But what's really impressive is he's only a second off, Justin Cooper, from his best time in the moto.
18:12He is not fading in this heat.
18:14No, Justin, I mean, that first moto last weekend, he rode good.
18:18It just really comes down to start for all these guys.
18:22And Justin is able to get out here and he's seat at somewhat pace.
18:26And I don't expect him to get beat by 30 seconds by Jet Lawrence.
18:29He's fast enough as Eli's uncalled Cody Shock.
18:33And this would be for 10th place.
18:35So he's got a little bit of work to do.
18:38Should make a little bit of light work with him.
18:41He's there and Shock not fighting him off.
18:44So that will put Tomek into 10th.
18:49And it hammers down again.
18:51There is no one in the 450 class that abuses a motorcycle clutch and throttle like Tomek.
18:57Hop in the bumps.
18:59Looks to be back up to pace.
19:00Yeah, he seems riding good.
19:03There's Savace up ahead at the top of the hill.
19:06And you know when he fell over that heat, got to him.
19:09Sandy Pardin, just the...
19:11Yeah, explain that.
19:11The riders always say when you stop, that's what gets you.
19:14Yeah, no, it's the sudden stop on one when you hit the crash.
19:18But all that heat, you get that airflow.
19:20So everybody always asks, like, are you hot in the motorcycle outfit?
19:23Only when I'm sitting still.
19:24So when Eli falls over, the bike is hot.
19:27He's got to pick it up.
19:28It's in the sand.
19:29And then so now he's standing in 103 degree weather with all that gear, with no air.
19:34That's when it really catches up to you.
19:37Gutsy ride by the four-time 450 motocross champion.
19:41Can he get to Savace?
19:42Savace is just pure point salvage at this point.
19:50And if you're a Tomac fan, we know there's a lot.
19:54Some more good news coming up.
19:56Going to his home track next weekend in Colorado.
20:00And he catches Savace in a hurry.
20:06Yeah, you can tell Eli's moving forward.
20:08Joey probably won't fight him too hard.
20:10He did not.
20:16And Tomac, now a ninth.
20:18Bad start and a crash.
20:22Nice recovery by Eli.
20:26Just a little too reminiscent of those early Supercross races,
20:28where he was arguably the fastest guy.
20:32I think he ended up with one podium in four races or five races
20:34because the starts were doing an end.
20:37It happened again today.
20:38And mentally, it eventually gets to you
20:40because no matter how good you're riding,
20:42if you're losing points,
20:43I mean, you think about what he was able to do
20:45that first moto win and the way he won.
20:48Then you come out in the second moto.
20:50I'm sure he felt good.
20:51I mean, obviously, he's riding like a guy
20:53that should be out front.
20:54And I'm sure he probably feels like he can.
20:56And you end up losing points to Jett Lawrence.
20:59So we know how consistent he is
21:01and how hard he's going to be to beat.
21:02You can't be giving these points away.
21:04I feel like the same thing happened in the Supercross.
21:07Too many opportunities.
21:08Where you lose those points just mentally
21:10just changes your whole season.
21:12So hopefully that doesn't happen for Eli.
21:15He's ninth.
21:16Hampshire would be next up the road.
21:17But that's a pretty big gap.
21:19About six seconds.
21:20Webb seventh.
21:21Anderson sixth.
21:22And a nice bounce back for Prado,
21:24who is outside the top ten in moto one.
21:26He is fifth now.
21:28And Chet Lawrence back in control, JT.
21:32He sure is.
21:33And I just wanted to add, you know,
21:34Justin Cooper does deserve a ton of credit.
21:36He has rode a fantastic moto two here.
21:39But honestly, you know,
21:40Weed, you touched on it there.
21:41Like, Jett with a six-second gap.
21:43I'm probably more nervous when I'm making my morning coffee
21:46than Jett is with a six-and-a-half-second lead.
21:49So it's just one of those things where it seems like the gap is tight
21:52and it seems like Justin Cooper is still in the battle here.
21:55But this is just what Jett Lawrence does.
21:58Like, he likes, you know,
22:00a two-and-a-half to three-second gap.
22:01Any more than that feels excessive for him.
22:03So incredible bounce back ride.
22:05But I'm just not sure that we've ever seen someone
22:07who is more comfortable with a small gap.
22:10And this isn't even a small gap.
22:11Well, guess what, JT?
22:12I'm glad you said that.
22:13I got a story to illustrate that point.
22:14I was talking to Darren Lawrence, Jett's dad, earlier.
22:18Remember last week there was that one inside line that Tomac had
22:21where he's making up a ton of ground.
22:23And I said, did Jett not know that line was there?
22:25And he said, no, I knew in the next turn Tomac didn't have any room to pass him.
22:28So he wasn't worried about it.
22:30Yeah, I mean, the kid's smart.
22:31And the thing with Jett Lawrence, we were always,
22:34especially when he was going 22-0,
22:37we were always wondering, did he have more?
22:40You know, has he got more?
22:41Because he's just managing his gap.
22:43And I was always like, no, he's actually rotting at the level.
22:46Like, he's trying really hard.
22:47Like, it's not like he's going to drop two or three seconds.
22:50And, yes, he could, but he'd be taking a chance.
22:53No, he's doing exactly what he needs to do at the level that he feels like he can do it.
22:57And that first motor should prove it
22:59because I don't really see much difference in the way he's rotting
23:02except for he's out front, he can take his own lines,
23:06and he's not having to run anybody down.
23:08So he's able to run these same lap times,
23:10which makes this gap at six seconds might as well be 30
23:13because it's going to be hard for a lot of people to go much faster than him,
23:17let alone catch him.
23:18And I think overall, it just, if you had any questions whether the kid had more,
23:23I just think it's more about him being so smart when he's out front
23:26and then also the level of all these other guys because they're very close
23:31just shows you what a start does with them.
23:33And I think the question is being answered here today.
23:35So if I'm Eli Tomac and all those other guys,
23:37at least I found the ceiling for him.
23:40I found that, hey, he's not going to drop it down three seconds and come it up.
23:44So he doesn't have more.
23:45That's his level.
23:46But clearly his level is still good enough to win these races convincingly.
23:51You just got to be in front of it and make him push above it.
23:54And there's a startling stat as Jet is closing in.
23:57Again, he is, he holds on for this.
23:59He's going to have won all but one 450 pro motocross race he's ever been in.
24:03He is going to move ahead of Jeff Emig on the all-time win list in this class.
24:09And Emig had a great long career at Jet, who's not even two full seasons in.
24:17He missed a bunch of races last year.
24:19In his sophomore year, he's going to the beginning of his third year.
24:21Has already, if he holds on, surpassed Emig.
24:24So that just gives you an idea.
24:25But when you start out, I believe this would be 17 for 18 in wins.
24:30You're going to start passing people quickly.
24:33Yeah, I'm going to be pretty close on that list, too.
24:35Oh, you got 20.
24:37Yeah, I'm glad you guys didn't highlight me.
24:38This is just active routers that's highlighted.
24:41Okay, all right.
24:42Well, we'll check in in a couple weeks if Jet keeps winning when he gets to 20 and maybe 21.
24:49But, yes, I like that point you make.
24:51Kind of wondering for a while, like, could he drop the hammer and find something else?
24:57When he had to do it in that first mode, it didn't quite materialize.
25:00So that's something to watch this battle between Shock and Malcolm Stewart.
25:05And that is for 10th of the moto.
25:0610th is Shock right now.
25:08Yeah, I was talking to my brother last weekend as he makes a nice pass by Cody right there
25:13is that they were really struggling that first race on the bike setup.
25:16They made some changes and got some new parts, kind of got thrown at them at the end right before Paula.
25:22So very uncomfortable.
25:24So this weekend, I'm wondering how much of that change did he go back to his setups?
25:27Because, to me, I believe Malcolm should be a little bit farther up right now.
25:31I mean, today it's hot.
25:32So there's a lot of things going on.
25:34But knowing that he was struggling with his motorcycle, they've got to continue to work on it.
25:39Because, clearly, he should be up there with RJ, his teammate up there, and he's not today.
25:44So we'll see what happens as the races go forward to get more comfortable.
25:49Yep, and ahead of them is Tomac 9th, and I don't know if Tomac's got anything left to go after Hampshire.
25:56He'd have to gain six seconds on him, and you can see, upper left of the screen, three laps to go.
26:02Can he get any further?
26:04Incredibly, if it ends like this, Tomac is going to end up not on the overall podium today.
26:08And third in championship points, even though he's ridden incredibly well.
26:12Yeah, as you mentioned, reminiscent of the Supercross season.
26:16Yeah, the guy, he's like, wait, he's only had one podium?
26:19You know, like, all these wins and how he won San Diego, just passing Jett straight up in a while.
26:25So it shows you how that margin is so close out here if you go down on how good these guys have been.
26:32But I don't think he's going to catch RJ.
26:34Actually, RJ is pulling away from him.
26:36So, yeah, I think Eli's going to save it for another day.
26:41And, again, that's the problem.
26:42This field is so much deeper than usual.
26:44You've got RJ Hampshire in eighth, Cooper Webb in seventh, Anderson and Prado sixth and fifth.
26:50These are good riders.
26:52Yeah, mentally, it's just a little tough for Eli because, again, you know, he wants to be out here racing for wins.
26:57And when he went down, as I was talking earlier, just that momentum, if he was able to wait, he was passing people,
27:02keeping that, you know, enthusiasm about him.
27:05And now he lost that, and that's kind of what you see.
27:07So he's out here to win races, not be in, you know, ninth place.
27:12But still, overall, a good day for Eli.
27:14I'm proud of him and looks good.
27:15He's going to be here to fight for this championship.
27:17Yeah, this is going to be what could have been because that was fifth place in his sights.
27:22This was three riders right in front of him, Webb, Anderson and Prado.
27:26And had he been able to get there before the halfway mark, could he have marched all the way up to second and got the overall win anyway?
27:33Shades of that ride from Sexton last year, not going to happen.
27:37Lawrence in control, JT.
27:39He is in control.
27:40We just knew you got it exactly right.
27:42And that's the toughest part about today for a guy like Eli Tomac to swallow because this was a racetrack where there was an opportunity.
27:49This track has not been very kind to Jett Lawrence.
27:52And now the question that all these guys have to pose, namely Tomac, who wants to win this title, is if I don't beat him at a track that has been very good to me and not so good to Jett, how am I going to beat him at the tracks that he rides incredibly well?
28:06That is the toughest part of this scenario.
28:08Not necessarily the points.
28:10Not necessarily the crash.
28:11It is that question where Jett's going to have his good days and on his bad days, you still couldn't capitalize.
28:19Yeah.
28:20And one other rider that's going to leave here with a little bit better news.
28:23Jorge Prado, not great last week.
28:26Fox raceway out of the top five and then went back to, I think, 13th in Moto 1 today or 12th.
28:32But fifth now.
28:34Is it an improvement at least?
28:34No, I actually think it's a big improvement from what I saw, the first moto going backwards.
28:40And this is exactly what he needs.
28:42This little bit of the way he was able to, when Eli caught him, because right before Eli went down, Jorge was right in front of him.
28:47And then one lap, Jorge was able to get around his teammate and Cooper Webb and move forward.
28:54So good steps by him.
28:56Hot day.
28:57Everybody wondered his fitness and how he was going to do.
28:59Well, he's riding better this second moto than he did the first moto.
29:02So for the two-time MXGP champion, this is a good sign to see.
29:06And this might kickstart his year to keep moving forward.
29:10Yep.
29:10They have said it'll be a learning year all season long.
29:13But this is a rider who is never not at the front, really not his entire pro career.
29:17He's battling for a GP wins as a teenager in the 250 class over there, what they call MX2.
29:22Won two titles there.
29:24MXGP was a title contender right off the bat.
29:26And then eventually locked down back-to-back titles after a few seasons.
29:30And that's another battle people would like to see.
29:33You know, he didn't come over here to finish it way distance off of Jet Lawrence.
29:37He wants to fight him.
29:38See if he can get there.
29:40Jet has it right now on the last lap.
29:44Very impressive.
29:45The rebound like this and still all but one.
29:50It's the starts and he didn't have it in Moto 1.
29:53And that's been rare to not see the Hondas leap off of that gate.
29:57Rectified it in Moto 2.
29:59And nothing to worry about after that.
30:02Maybe the saving the energy in Moto 1 would probably help a little bit.
30:06Whatever it takes.
30:07Yep.
30:08This is it.
30:10Tomac.
30:11And Plessinger had Jet Lawrence on the ropes early.
30:15But Jet wins Hangtown anyway.
30:18He gets it done.
30:19Jet Lawrence 2-0 to start the year.
30:23Justin Cooper.
30:24Yeah, what a ride.
30:26Takes second.
30:27Yeah, how he's always at just quiet second place.
30:32And for Eli Tomac, it's the one that got away.
30:34Bad start in Moto 2.
30:36He had to hustle.
30:38Ends up crashing.
30:40And it is going to go down as a 1-9.
30:43And that doesn't tell the story really at all.
30:48Of Eli Tomac at Hangtown 2025.
30:50No, definitely not.
30:51I said after the first Moto Baby was getting a new crib.
30:53Well, he might put it on Lelway for another week.
30:56Get back on the podium.
30:57We just stay with the diapers.
30:59But good ride by him.
31:01Start racing Yamaha.
31:03They got a teammate Justin Cooper on the podium.
31:05Justin Cooper Webb, top seven.
31:09I like Eli.
31:10He's good.
31:10He'll be back.
31:12I would say normally that he could take confidence out of that first Moto.
31:15Does a guy like Tomac, does he need that?
31:17Does he use that?
31:18Yeah, no, he will.
31:19Okay.
31:20Yeah, he will.
31:21All right.
31:21Well, something to look forward to as he goes to his home state race next weekend.
31:25Tomac going to go 1-9.
31:264-0.
31:274-0.
31:375-4 sageǎ.
31:395-0.
31:406-0.
31:417-0.
31:417-0.
31:428-0.
31:425-0.
