00:00We had to flip the lead of our scoring pages a couple times and we saw him.
00:05So, yeah, I think as the track goes on and it hardens up, I think Prado would be okay.
00:12You know, I think he had that first practice was, you know, a little difficult for him.
00:16But at the same time, he's got to realize he's a four-time MXGP champion.
00:20I mean, he knows how to ride a motorcycle.
00:22I know everything's different.
00:23But at some point, you don't want to get stuck in a rut, per se, mentally,
00:28where he started believing that you're not as good as you are.
00:30So, I think it's a big day for Jorge, just as it is for all these guys,
00:35as the guy we're watching on the screen, I think he'll be fine.
00:39Yeah, watching Tomac here on the three, Jason Anderson right ahead of him.
00:43Anderson waving him by.
00:45He don't want that smoke already.
00:47Yeah, you kept saying as soon as you saw Tomac out there.
00:51So, he was hammering not just that one lap.
00:53He was fast all around.
00:54No, he was – it was weird because when I watched him the second lap,
00:59he was behind Anderson and, you know, Hunter Lawrence and all these guys.
01:02About four guys.
01:03And then the next lap he came through, I actually thought he cut the track.
01:06That's how he went through all those guys.
01:08And, you know, something about Eli, I will say this, since he's been back, you know,
01:13came off injury pretty much all year, he looks like he's having fun.
01:17You know, when he's riding a motorcycle, just more loose and all that.
01:20And when you come here in Colorado, obviously with the fans and all that stuff,
01:24he's going to help him out.
01:24But he just looks like he's having a good time, enjoying the bike.
01:28And, man, honestly, I love what I see.
01:31He makes it look fun when I'm watching him ride.
01:35Look at that graphic over there on the left side.
01:37Tomac now up to being the third oldest winner in the history of this championship.
01:44And you're going way back to the Torsten Hallman days.
01:46And then John Dowd, who almost has all the age records.
01:49So, yeah, Tomac showing, at least for him, age 32 is just a number, Will.
01:54Yeah, and it's not a bluff.
01:56This is how he really feels.
01:57I got a chance to talk to John Tomac, his dad there, the Grand Marshal,
02:00at this event this weekend in Thunder Valley yesterday.
02:03And I was asking him about that, where Eli was and his enjoyment of it.
02:07He's here.
02:08He's still racing because he's still having fun.
02:11He's like, just watch it.
02:12And I said, how about last weekend?
02:14How did he leave then?
02:15Was that fun, you know?
02:17Did you take the positives out of it?
02:18Or was he frustrated?
02:19And he said, no, there was definitely frustration there.
02:21He's like, he knows what he's capable of.
02:23It was right there for him to take.
02:25So frustration for me, Eli.
02:27But he said the reset was there.
02:28And he's excited to come back here.
02:30And obviously, race in front of the hometown fans here.
02:32Yeah, thanks, Will.
02:33And, yeah, the whole problem was just a bad jump off the gate in the second moto.
02:37And that led to all sorts of chaos beyond that.
02:39So the start has been the problem.
02:41And it might be tough for today.
02:42JT, this is one of the trickiest starts on the whole circuit.
02:45It is.
02:46And it's the one that has the most variance.
02:48Because you think about the elevation.
02:50What does that do to the motorcycles?
02:51Well, every other race of the year outside of possibly Salt Lake and definitely Denver,
02:56you're going to see Hunter Lawrence cram it into first gear.
02:59And almost he forgets here.
03:00Look at that.
03:00That's a panic shift downwards.
03:02Because I think he was worried about being in second.
03:05This is the only race of the year.
03:06The pro motocross race here he'd be in first gear.
03:07You see the torque that Previncear got right there.
03:10And that's the change that these riders are dealing with.
03:13It's such a variable that riders aren't used to.
03:16So you see a little bit of a change in the starts.
03:18And that's what I'm going to be looking for in the races is does the standard, the Jet Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence,
03:23whole shot, does that stand out again?
03:25Even though they've had to go to first gear, different fuel maps, different engine components,
03:28all of that change can disrupt the mechanism that they have for these starts because they want it to be robotic.
03:35They want to do the same thing every single time.
03:37When you change everything in the motorcycle and you change your gearing and you start in first gear,
03:42well, you can't possibly do exactly the same thing.
03:44So watch for that later.
03:45Do the starts remain the same that we're used to seeing even though everything else is different?
03:50Yeah, no, that's a great point, JT.
03:51And the one guy that's probably the most comfortable with these changes is this guy, Eli Tomac.
03:57I mean, when he's down racing pretty much every track on the circuit, his bike's a lot faster than what he's normally riding with at home.
04:03So to me, this is what he practiced with in Cortez, Colorado, you know, very loose.
04:09Every time I've seen him on the track, on his practice track, he looks just like this.
04:13So I'm with you, JT.
04:14It's going to be important for these guys just to mentally kind of block that out and try to focus in that it's just another race.
04:19We're just down on power.
04:21But, yeah, it's going to be a great day of racing.
04:24And what can you say about this guy, Jason?
04:27This guy's been answering the bell.
04:29Anytime anybody has any questions, he just bounces back.
04:32And that's why he's so tough to beat.
04:34Well, he's in a situation that I'm sure you lived in your racing life.
04:37He gets third in the first moto.
04:39And as much as it was an excitement over Plessinger and Tomac riding well, half of the takeaway was what happened to Jett.
04:46He got third.
04:47And that's something you had to live with, I'm sure.
04:48If you didn't win, it seemed like something was wrong.
04:50No, it definitely was.
04:52I mean, there were some times where, I mean, and it's hard to be disciplined and not chase that.
04:56I mean, I know it got to me when I was younger because it was always winning.
05:00And you just, I got second.
05:01It was like, oh, what happened?
05:02Well, I got beat.
05:05Like, I don't know what else to say.
05:07But, you know, it's always like, oh, something's wrong with the bike.
05:09And that's why I was really, you know, impressed with Lars and really appreciate what he said.
05:13Because as we were up here trying to figure out what was going on, why did this guy get beat?
05:16He just said, no, he got beat.
05:19There was no changes on the motorcycle.
05:20It was really Jett going out there and doing it.
05:22And, you know, he knows what's up.
05:24So I think it's a big weekend for him as well, Jett Lawrence.
05:27Now, this is why that standard has been set to see him go by Prado.
05:32Look at this career result in the about two and a half-ish seasons total in the 450 class.
05:39He has 32 moto wins in 36 starts.
05:43A second, a third.
05:45That was the first time he ever finished third.
05:47So that's the standard we're talking about.
05:49Average finish 1.9.
05:50You know all that winning.
05:51You get one third place.
05:52People wonder, is something wrong?
05:54Will, what are you hearing from the camp for the number 18?
05:57Well, talking to team manager Lars Enstrom about that exact situation there with coming third in Moto 1.
06:03There's zero panic over there because they just look at that situation and they see race marks.
06:09James, I'd like to know what you think about this.
06:11But they're looking at that and they're going, okay, Jett knew he didn't get the start.
06:14He knew the heat was there.
06:16You know, he knew that it would take X amount to push forward.
06:19And in those moments, he's judging this.
06:21He's going, okay, I can definitely get a better start in Moto 2.
06:24What's the big picture?
06:25You know, zooming out to the whole day, but then zooming out again really to the whole championship.
06:30And taking all of that in and all this, you know, really just coming back to racing.
06:34So, James, obviously a ton of talent from Jett Lawrence, but race marks count too.
06:38No, absolutely.
06:39And, you know, for being in the position Jett is, it's easy to just listen to the critics and that third place can turn and mentally, like, you start believing because everybody else is like, oh, what happened?
06:51But having your team around you and Lars just being really calm, like, hey, dude, you didn't get the start.
06:56These guys are good.
06:56If you don't get the start, they probably will beat you.
06:58But I think it just allows Jett to just refocus and be like, okay, it was the third place.
07:03I'm going to go out here and just win the next one.
07:05I get the whole shot and I'm going to win.
07:06And that's exactly what he did.
07:07So, you know, sometimes I wish I had that around me, you know, or me kind of knowing that.
07:13Because I think it just keeps him calm and it just doesn't allow the pressure to get to him.
07:16So, obviously, he executed as big as a deal as we were kind of making it.
07:21Everybody was kind of making it.
07:23He still walked away with seven more points.
07:25He, you know, added to his points lead.
07:28So, overall, it was a great day for Jett Lawrence.
07:32Time starting to, as expected, get quicker in this session.
07:36Tomek's still on top, but that's actually a time from this session.
07:39Now he went 2.13 earlier today.
07:41Now he's at 2.12.
07:42Justin Cooper has moved up.
07:43You're watching Prado in the bottom box.
07:45And as of this moment, he's not even into the motos.
07:50You've got to get to top 35 to be in automatically.
07:53Then there's LCQ and then there's just out altogether.
07:56Yeah, he's got to pick up the pace because we've still got the B group to go.
08:00And the track's only going to get faster as the day goes on.
08:03Normally, you know, there's a point where, obviously, with the B group then win,
08:09there's a point where this track's going to slow down.
08:11I don't think we're there yet.
08:12And just watching Jorge being 41st at this moment, I'm sure he's going to be able to qualify.
08:19Probably not going to sit well in front of those, you know, to approach the Monster Energy Kawasaki.
08:23They're probably not too happy right now.
08:25This is quite a bit different.
08:26And in the top box, watching Plessinger third, who is not known as a qualifier last week.
08:31I think he was fifth in qualifying.
08:33His team manager, Ian Harrison, told me once he was actually top five in qualifying,
08:37we knew he was in for a great day.
08:39And it panned out.
08:41It might have been his best riding maybe ever in that first moto.
08:43And he's running well in qualifying.
08:45Again, uncharacteristic for him.
08:47Again, we've got the clock on Prado.
08:50And there you see the difference.
08:52See, he and Plessinger.
08:52Plessinger across the line.
08:54He's off by...
08:55Oh, he's to the top!
08:58Aaron Plessinger on top in qualifying.
08:59That never happens.
09:01And Prado's taking a visit with the team.
09:03Yeah, Prado's going to have to just step it up at this point.
09:07Because I'm sure the team's that, look, hey, we can't do anything at this moment.
09:10You've got to go out there and do it.
09:11We've got five minutes left.
09:12Yeah, exactly.
09:13It's going to take him two and a half minutes to get around the racetrack to complete another lap.
09:16So, at least for him, the mechanics area is somewhat right in front of him.
09:19I believe he pulled off right before the finish line.
09:22But...
09:23Star contrast of what we're watching right here.
09:26So, Plessinger on top.
09:27Check in with Cooper Webb.
09:297-7 last week.
09:31And he sounded sick yesterday at Presta.
09:35You can hear it for yourself with this interview here.
09:39Yeah, like I said, unfortunately, you know, got something this week.
09:43And trying to recover from it still.
09:45But, yeah, it's lingering.
09:46And as you can tell, I sound pretty bad.
09:49But it's part of it.
09:50You know, you're going to have these weekends where you're under the weather.
09:53And you've just got to push through.
09:54So, yeah, hopefully we make the most of it.
09:56And obviously having cooler weather, I think, is going to help.
09:59So, yeah, just going to go in open-minded.
10:01And see what we can do.
10:03He'll probably have his best route of the year so far.
10:05Oh, yeah?
10:06Yeah.
10:06Just something about when you're sick.
10:08You know, just, you know, relaxes you and stuff.
10:11And my bad.
10:12The beat practice already went.
10:15So, yeah.
10:18Oh, that's right.
10:18Yep.
10:18Yeah, but he's still not there.
10:2142nd is Prado to watch a web stop.
10:23Let's send it down to JT.
10:25Well, guys, you were watching Jorge Prado there.
10:27He came in the mechanics area.
10:28He's asking for a fork change.
10:29But I was trying to think about, you know, why is he having such difficulty here?
10:32But remember, right off the top of the show, he talked about, well, it's probably a good decision to not ride on Friday for press day.
10:39He's trying to learn all these racetracks.
10:41You know, he's got about 15, 18 minutes now at, you know, full speed on this track.
10:46That's not a lot of time to get up to race pace under these really tricky conditions.
10:50So, yes, it seemed like probably the right idea to save the racetrack.
10:53But I think for Jorge Prado specifically, he could have learned a lot about the track and his motorcycle yesterday had he been able to ride.
11:00Yeah, well, if he don't pick it up, he's going to learn too much more because he's going to have five minutes and he's going to be hanging out with us in the booth.
11:07But, you know, look, I know what he's talking about.
11:11And I think for going out there and racing, learning this track, for sure, the more time you get on it.
11:15But I still think at Jorge that the level all these guys are, it wouldn't matter if they got out of bed and they threw on their suit for the first time.
11:24They can come out here and ride this racetrack and he should be able to qualify.
11:27So I'm sure he's going to probably try to get a clean lap at this point and try to make it happen, hopefully for him.
11:33Nothing happens, doesn't go down because he's in a world of hurt right now.
11:36Yeah, he's got to uncork it.
11:37Here comes the finish line.
11:39This could be his last chance to get in a lap.
11:4140-second quickest and you see nearly nine seconds off of the fastest rider who is now Justin Cooper.
11:48Yeah, but you saw how slow he went right there.
11:50He was actually setting up for a fast lap, Tom, and he went into 16.
11:54So that right there tells you.
11:55Just cruising.
11:55Just cruising.
11:56Wow.
11:57So that's what I was meaning.
11:58I'm like, no, he can ride way better no matter how much he's struggling.
12:02So that tells you right there that this lap should be a lot better for him.
12:07That is bizarre.
12:08It literally, to me, looked like he was riding, waiting to set up a fast lap.
12:11He was.
12:12And he was still good enough for 16.
12:13Yeah, so it kind of answers that question.
12:16Well, at least he's into the bodos.
12:18Don't have to worry about that.
12:21Talked to Dan Fahey, team manager there at Monster Kawasaki.
12:24Said they're making forward progress.
12:25Maybe not as much progress as they would like, but definitely not making steps backwards during the week.
12:31So that's one thing.
12:32Watch Lawrence now.
12:33And if you heard Jorge's bike when he missed that corner, how low and luggy it was, that's the part where he's going to have to learn.
12:40If he hasn't raced in altitude that much and learned his track, that's the biggest difference when you come up here.
12:44Because once you miss that at elevation, you know, normal, you know, sea level, just pop the clutch and get this thing going.
12:51But here, you just lose so much time on that.
12:54And you can imagine having a 450 if Jet Lawrence just stuffs it in that corner, having a 450 sounding like that.
13:00Imagine what the 250s sound like as well.
13:02Well, to that end, Justin Cooper fastest right now.
13:05And Lawrence is behind him on the splits.
13:08We talked about last week, Justin Cooper, that mid-corner speed, that roll speed, that momentum.
13:13And he has a great record at this track.
13:15Are those two things connected?
13:17Yeah.
13:18I had a dream about that at the first race with Justin Cooper.
13:22I feel like this racetrack is definitely set up for him.
13:25And especially with it being a little deep like this, how Justin Rod's just keeping his momentum, but also being really light on the bike.
13:31Same thing with Jet Lawrence.
13:32We saw him make a few mistakes here, but I think that's just more with the track.
13:36Being light out here is going to help these guys.
13:38But 100%, Jason, I think Justin Cooper is going to have a breakout route today.
13:41Three times Cooper was the fast qualifier at this track in the 250 class.
13:47It just gives you an idea of how good he is here.
13:49Kind of surprising, though.
13:51He has never been the 450 fast qualifier yet.
13:54Now, it's only just into his second season in the 450 class, but he's just so good in qualifying.
14:00This could be his first.
14:01I don't know if Jet's going to knock him back.
14:02Yeah, this track is so tricky right now for these guys.
14:15He's going to keep going.
14:16Just enough time to get another lap in.
14:22And look at the gap, by the way, Cooper has.
14:24Over a second on anyone.
14:26Yeah, and look, me being really smooth.
14:29I was watching this section earlier.
14:31Those guys, what you don't see, that camera is really off-camber.
14:33So as they're going, the gravity is trying to pull them down towards his TV tower,
14:37but they're going the opposite way.
14:38So just really easy to make a mistake.
14:40And these ruts, they're slotting into a hard rut because they're getting so deep.
14:44So it makes it really tricky.
14:46And this section down here is really tricky where we saw Jorge the last lap.
14:50You have to make a decision to go inside or outside, try to block that line or not.
14:54I actually kind of like the changes on the track from a racing standpoint
14:58as far as having opportunities to pass.
15:01Okay.
15:05Jet looks a little better this time, but still not quite there speed-wise
15:09to the lap that Justin Cooper threw down.
15:16Just interesting to hear the motorcycle when they're hustling.
15:19Yeah.
15:20Is the wet conditions and those ruts and the little bit of mud, is that only exacerbate?
15:27Does that only make the loss of power even more of an issue?
15:32Yeah.
15:32I mean, I think, you know, ultimately, like, these guys, they'll get used to the power.
15:36Like, at some point, I mean, it's probably not actually bothering them that much.
15:39But really, just because of the wetness and the lines haven't formed,
15:43it's when you slide into the rut as we watch Jet Lawrence, you know,
15:47and you slam into these corners as this.
15:49Like, he's trying to get out of that rut.
15:51The bike's just spinning.
15:52And because it had all that rain, the mud is actually sticking to the bike.
15:56So it's making it a little bit heavier.
15:57So as the day goes on, that'll dry out a lot.
15:59But definitely some tricky conditions for these guys because some parts are a little bit harder.
16:04Then you get that really soft part.
16:06Then there's a little bit of sand on it.
16:07There's sawdust.
16:08So a lot of different obstacles out here these guys have to deal with.
16:12There's Tomac on a cruise lap right now.
16:14He is currently third quickest.
16:18A little pull in the clutch.
16:19Got a little off balance.
16:20Had to bring that power back down.
16:22Let's see if he can get out of this corner good.
16:23And checkered flag out.
16:28That's the end of the session.
16:29It's Plessinger trying to put in one more heater here.
16:32As you watch that FMF drone cam.
16:34Right now, though, Justin Cooper looking for the first 450 fast qualifying award of his career.
16:41Sneaky.
16:41Track suggestion markers on the inside for AP.
16:45And he...
