00:00In 2025, and it will all come down to this start.
00:09Let's go, Moto2 from High Point.
00:17Oh, not as good for Deegan this time.
00:21And it's Tom Bial off to the early lead.
00:24Another great start for Nate Thrasher and Hammackers.
00:28Oh, wait a minute, where did Deegan come from?
00:29He got to the inside, around Hymus Hammackers, and to the lead.
00:33That was a nice save by Tom Bial.
00:36He's losing the front end.
00:37Looked like Chance Hymus got a better start.
00:39It was Michael Moseman that went down off the start.
00:41So, tough break for him.
00:42He's got a long ways to go.
00:43But look at that.
00:44As quickly as Hayden Deegan wasn't there, he was there.
00:46And now he's out front, where these guys are going to have to chase him down again.
00:49But Chance Hymus has moved up into that third position.
00:52Good start.
00:53Hymus' chance to show what he's got.
00:55Also, look at Kitchen making moves on the green Kawasaki back there.
00:59Said he needed to work on the early race intensity.
01:01He's passing riders in bunches.
01:04Hymus going after Bial.
01:06Yeah, Chance knows.
01:07He's got to take a chance to get around Tom Bial at this moment.
01:10Because you don't want the Hayden Deegan to try to run away.
01:13And Hayden looks really comfortable in this racetrack.
01:15So does Chance.
01:15But Hayden's got that confidence.
01:17His second moto.
01:18This is where he shines.
01:19Let's see what Chance has got today to bring that heat.
01:23And for Bial, who's been subpar off the podium the last couple of motos.
01:27It's his chance to make up for it with a good start.
01:31Yeah, as you mentioned earlier, we kind of looked at him as a title threat.
01:34So we're starting to overlook him.
01:36And that's no disrespect to Tom Bial.
01:38But it's not been the year he wanted.
01:40So let's see if he can rebound.
01:41A start is going to help him.
01:43This is close.
01:43He's been to Hayden for a while.
01:45But he's got his hands full with the number 10.
01:47Look at that move right there, baby.
01:49That was a nice pass.
01:50Roll speed all day long.
01:52Chance Hymus.
01:53Keys to the moto there.
01:54Hymus up to second.
01:56It's the battle we anticipated at the beginning of the day.
01:58Deegan versus Hymus.
02:00They're 1-2 on lap one.
02:01Yeah, let's see how this thing plays out.
02:03And I think now Hayden will look back.
02:06See the motivation from Chance Hymus.
02:08And I think you're going to see the best of Hayden Deegan.
02:10Chance Hymus is going to have to be the best version of himself to keep him in there.
02:13I think we've got to race, folks, if they can keep it going.
02:19Ooh, they threw a little bit of water on that.
02:20Chance slid out.
02:23Casey Cochran making moves here.
02:25The rock star, Gas Gas.
02:27He is now up to fourth ahead of Shimoda.
02:30And I'm not sure what happened.
02:31But Kitchen was the rider on the move at first.
02:34No longer in this group.
02:35Yeah, something must have happened.
02:36And I don't know if he had a little bit of help by somebody.
02:39But, yeah, nice to see Casey.
02:41He's been riding good all year long.
02:42We've been mentioning his name pretty much every moto.
02:44So good to see him back up front.
02:46Joe Shimoda had those four second place, four motos in a row.
02:51So let's see if he can get back up as well to get back on that podium.
02:54Oh, Julian Beaumere, that is a couple of motos in a row now that we've seen him hit the ground.
03:01Yeah, when you saw Chance Hymas come around that corner and lose it, as I said, that was a nice save by him.
03:07I believe Julian probably did the same thing.
03:10We have the crash.
03:11Whoa.
03:15Yeah, we caught the end of it, JT.
03:17Yeah, it's exactly the same thing, Chance Hymas.
03:19Levi Kitchen almost did the same thing.
03:21And Beaumere was the one that actually went down.
03:24They watered the face of that jump.
03:25And you could see that scoop tire, their rear tire, step out.
03:28There's just literally no traction.
03:30That tire does not have much edge grip.
03:32Spun out.
03:33And he just high-sided right over the top.
03:35And then in the replay, you saw what happened to Kitchen right into the rear wheel of Cochran.
03:39So that's why he lost so much ground.
03:41Cochran looking to do damage of a different kind right now as he's battling Shimoda.
03:45Yeah, well, Joe's been riding really good.
03:47So not surprising him able to get around Casey as Joe now sets his sight on Tom Biao for third place.
03:53But Casey's still doing good.
03:55He needs to just catch that toe, find that flow out there, see if Joe can move his way up.
04:00Because clearly he has the speed to be able to run with these guys.
04:03And Thrasher will come through next.
04:04So there's Swole, Hamaker, Harrop, Marchbanks in 10th.
04:08There's more on Shimoda.
04:09Katie.
04:10Well, the team was telling me that a second and a second was pretty good.
04:13But a sixth there in Thunder Valley was obviously not what they were hoping for.
04:17It turned out that Joe Shimoda had the speed.
04:19And they knew it.
04:20And they knew that they had that confidence.
04:21It was a start that we needed to see out of him.
04:24And, in fact, we saw that in the first moto.
04:27Joe making his way back through the pack.
04:29And right now, Joe being up and forth, the team is saying,
04:31Watch out.
04:32He's been dangerous right now with that speed level.
04:35Yeah.
04:36And Katie, to that end, another bad start of the first moto.
04:39But, boy, did he come through even with a crash.
04:41And a little bit closer to the front early in this one on the Honda HRC progressive machine.
04:46Yeah.
04:47Now, if we drop back in the pack, now we're getting back towards, I believe that is Seth
04:51Handmaker, which was able to get third in the first moto.
04:54So, not the best of the starts.
04:55But the only problem for Joe is that I would say the two fastest guys, maybe or at least
05:00same pace, is ahead of him at about four or five seconds.
05:03So, he's got a lot of work to do to be able to close that gap.
05:05And, as I mentioned earlier, when you look at the lap times in between Hayden Deegan and
05:09Chance Hymas, I felt like Hayden, once he looked back and saw Chance, he was really going to
05:13bring the best version of himself.
05:14And these two are really starting to go at it.
05:16It'll be a great race.
05:17Yeah, we saw them pull huge leads last week.
05:20This battle you're watching is Thrasher up at the top, then Swole, then Handmaker, and
05:28then Harrop there on that 107 as well.
05:31Yeah, if I'm the guys down in Jalik's team, you know, at the Triumph, I'm pretty happy with
05:36him because just him coming back up and him knowing him being hurt, still a great ride
05:41for number 22 Chad Reed.
05:42I mean, Jalik Swole here.
05:44Jalik coming back from an Achilles injury first race this season.
05:49While this battle rages, let's get an update from Katie on Beaumere.
05:52Yeah, the number 23 of Julian Beaumere.
05:54This is one of those tracks he said he really liked until what happened just in that moto.
05:58He crashed over here, actually, by the spotters in the pits, and it turns out something hit
06:04his face.
06:04He had blood coming out of his mouth, out of his nose, and is going to go get himself
06:07checked out.
06:08Oh, man, and it's come undone for Beaumere.
06:10He was very good at the first two rounds of the series.
06:14He's led a lot of laps even at the opener.
06:15Fox Raceway.
06:17Hammaker making moves here.
06:21Yeah, I like to see Seth move up.
06:23He's going to charge down his heel and having a hurt shoulder.
06:25That's pretty impressive to be able to do that.
06:27And, yeah, it's easy for these guys to make those mistakes early in the race, and you
06:30will wonder, like, well, they just had a parade lap.
06:32But the thing is, once that gate drops, you forget about all that.
06:37And JT's, you know, halftime report talking about roosts.
06:39These guys are getting roosted.
06:40They start turning their head, and it's easy how shiny that part is where actually Julian
06:44crashed.
06:45It's easy for that to happen, and it's a high-speed section.
06:48It's a bummer for him, but nice to see him ride off the track.
06:51This is Marchbanks and Kitchen, 9th and 10th.
06:54So, unfortunately, it ends up being the same story.
06:57These two have speed, but they had to do it from the back of the top 10.
07:00Kitchen got around 4th or 5th there in that first lap until he bumped Cochran.
07:06So, it looked like he had a bad start.
07:08The start wasn't actually as bad as it appears.
07:11It's a good fight between the teammates, though.
07:13Yeah, they're all there.
07:14Their teammate on teammate crown right here.
07:16And I love Garrett Marchbanks' riding style.
07:19We talked about this in Race Day Live, just the way he rides a motorcycle.
07:22He looks like a hula-hoo dancer, a hula-dancer.
07:24The way his body moves, his head stays straight.
07:27So, if he can continue this thing going, just got to get better starts as Levi makes the
07:31pass on Nate Thrasher.
07:34Yeah, same story for Thrasher in both motos.
07:38Good start, and then starting to drift back.
07:40But he's in rebuild mode.
07:4218th was his season-best moto finish before today for Thrasher.
07:46Now, it's Swole under pressure from Kitchen.
07:52Yeah, it was two laps in a row.
07:54It looked like Jalik was overjumping that big Moss Energy triple jump.
07:58But what he's doing, he's actually landing at the bottom of that.
08:00So, it's a lot smoother because his bike is rebounding one time instead of coming up a
08:04little bit short.
08:05So, it's like he's overjumping that, but it's working out.
08:09Katie?
08:10Yeah, it's working out for him.
08:11And, of course, as we've talked all day is his Achilles injury that he had and how he's
08:15back on the bike a bit earlier.
08:16Well, he told me that he texted Eli Tomac after his injury to kind of get some insights from
08:21him about the injury itself, the do's, the don'ts, what to do.
08:25And he said he was so surprised that he texted him back.
08:28And I asked, what were some of the specifics?
08:30And he said, really, it was just more encouragement at that point in time to get back on the bike
08:34as you see him go off a little bit there.
08:36Get back on the bike.
08:37Be positive and know that it will come to an end at some point in time.
08:42That's cool.
08:43Yeah, no, that's really cool.
08:44And that just shows you what kind of person Eli is.
08:46I mean, I think being a father, kind of helping, helping, you know, these young kids up.
08:50And Jaleek's a good guy.
08:51I mean, a lot of guys like him in the pit.
08:53He's hardworking.
08:55And any time, any one of these riders, we all are brotherhood out here.
08:58So, we want to look out for each other.
08:59So, really cool about him.
09:01He needs some advice to be able to keep these teammates behind him as well.
09:04Garrett Marchbank's going out there.
09:05But still, Jaleek can come out of here just finishing his race.
09:08It's a good day.
09:09It's a win-win for him.
09:10Yeah, then he gets to build the weekend off before the next race at Southwick.
09:15Marchbank's looking to march by.
09:18But that outside line didn't work.
09:20He's going to try this one.
09:22Running that crown molding around the outside.
09:25Yeah, that tunnel jump.
09:27We've got to pay attention to that, especially as this race goes on in that 450.
09:30It's getting a gnarly rut up on there.
09:32And when these guys are using that paddle tire, as JT was mentioning it,
09:35you've got to start worrying about some of these guys spinning out.
09:37Tough section moving forward as this race goes on.
09:39Yeah, that paddle tire situation, that primarily designed for the softer terrain.
09:44So, yeah, what happens when you get out of that harder stuff?
09:47Yeah, I mean, essentially, it's like trying to ride with nobbies on a freeway.
09:50You know, the bike's just spinning up or, you know, roller skate on, you know,
09:54roller skating and the thing just starts to spin.
09:56And if it's not straight up and down or in some loose stuff,
09:59it just spins out because it's the size difference between the two different nobbies and stuff.
10:05So, for these guys, it's one of those things that you probably ride with all week long.
10:09And like I said, at home, you're focused in it.
10:12And when you're not racing to other people, you can go to those outside lines.
10:15But trying to make passes where it's difficult, as Garrett makes his way around Jalik.
10:20But, again, we're all dealing with it.
10:22They'll figure it out.
10:23They just got to make sure they don't get caught out in these hard, slippery stuff.
10:25Up front, Deegan has stretched the lead to four seconds over Hymas.
10:31Still Vial in third.
10:33Hamaker and Kitchin.
10:35Hamaker bringing some heat here.
10:37Yeah, no, we saw this in the first moto.
10:38Levi was able to get the best of his teammates.
10:41So, Seth is trying to return the favor.
10:43Hometown brings him back.
10:45You know, it feels good here.
10:46And I think for him, just the confidence to be able to roll with, you know, his teammate,
10:50which has got a podium.
10:51And then there's another teammate, Garrett Marshbanks, coming in here.
10:54We've got to excuse us if we're talking about we call the riders wrong names and stuff
10:59because they're all in here.
11:01Just say the whole Pro Circuit team is out here.
11:03This is all season.
11:05We've got these two or three rider packs of Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders.
11:10It has happened again.
11:11Sixth, seventh, and eighth.
11:15Quickly, as Seth was all over Levi, he's got to worry about his other teammate,
11:19Garrett Marshbanks, getting around him.
11:21So, this is that section I was saying.
11:23And it's starting to get difficult for these guys.
11:26I don't know if Levi was able to actually get over that jump.
11:28Oh, Joe Shimoda has caught Tom Villal for third.
11:32Villal has not had a podium in a moto since moto two at the opener at Pala.
11:37And he's barely hanging on to it right now at high point.
11:40Yeah, Joe was trying to get there, but that's another off-camera corner that eventually was
11:45going to run into each other.
11:46So, Joe has obviously closed it.
11:48He's got the pace.
11:49He's got to be calm and try to not slow each other down because I do feel like now that
11:54gap in the lead is starting to open it up.
11:56Chance might start racing behind him.
11:58So, if Joe can get around Tom Villal, maybe he has a chance to get on the podium or at
12:02least second place, get to his teammate if he doesn't get stalled out too much.
12:06You look at the overall points there on the bottom left.
12:08It's all up for grabs.
12:10That third place spot on the podium.
12:12Villal, Kitchen, maybe even Heimaker has a shot at it.
12:16And in the 250 close.
12:17Oh, Joe went down.
12:19Oh, man.
12:19That was a tough one.
12:20And that's where they were trying to get some of that mud off.
12:23And you can see those guys, they fixed that track, but his bike bottoms out because all
12:27the water goes off the racetrack right there.
12:29So, it becomes a big pothole.
12:30And Joe lost that rear end, thing kicked out, and then it hooked up and he went down.
12:34So, good to see him back up.
12:36But that could have been a lot worse than what it was.
12:39Now, how hard is it to get back in that rhythm, that race pace, and all that stuff when an
12:44event like that happens?
12:45I mean, it's really hard, especially when you're Joe.
12:47You know, you're looking at I'm on the podium and having last weekend, not the best one,
12:52and trying to return back.
12:53Even the first motor, not the best one.
12:55So, it's going to be harder for him because he belongs up front where he feels like it.
12:59So, easy to make that mistake and easy to make another mistake as Seth Handmaker did that
13:04a few weeks ago.
13:05So, he just needs to keep his composure, do what he did that first motor, regroup.
13:09If he makes it this lap, then I don't think he'll start charging his way back up front.
13:12But it's easy to go a little erratic afterwards.
13:15Right in front of him, Ryder DeFrancisco, who had a rough goal in the first motor.
13:20So, battling just to even be top 20 this time around.
13:25He is in ninth.
13:27Shimoda, tenth.
13:29Yeah, you saw Joe duck his head right there.
13:31That's the roost is really bad in that mechanics area.
13:34It's one of the areas on the track where that clay gets packed in and it's like getting shot
13:39with a BB gun the whole time.
13:40So, you see Joe shaking his head or ducking his head, excuse me.
13:44And then Dylan Schwartz behind them.
13:47This is right where you normally find Schwartz, right around that 9, 10, 11 spot.
13:52Further up ahead is Kitchen, who has dealt with his teammate Handmaker, who might have a Kitchen
13:58and Marchbanks battle now.
14:00Nah, Garrett got around both those guys.
14:01Oh, yeah, he's pulling away.
14:02Yeah, he's got in front of him.
14:03He's trying to go out to Casey Cochran.
14:06And so, nice move by Garrett getting around both his teammates who we're moving forward.
14:12I'll tell you what, Marchbanks only has a one-year deal with Pro Circuit.
14:17His deal's up at the end of this season.
14:19So, he is showing either that team, hey, you want to bring me back, or other teams might
14:24want to add a spot because he's been riding so well to start the year.
14:28Marchbanks third in points coming into this race.
14:30And with that pass, Kitchen has actually been bumped back off the podium.
14:36It would still be VL third overall.
14:39Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of racing left.
14:43And for sure, that's the best way to get a ride.
14:45You know how Mitch Payton, he's all about results.
14:47He don't care about the name.
14:49If you're out here putting in effort, really his number one goal is just continue to put
14:52in effort.
14:53And Garrett's been showing that all these guys have been for his racing team.
14:56But if you can have the best results out of all your teammates, then move on out of
15:01the way.
15:01This is my spot.
15:03I'm talking about those starts at Marchbanks.
15:06Seven out of the eight motos this season, he has started outside the top ten on lap one.
15:13And working his way forward again.
15:16He's in fifth.
15:17Casey Cochran.
15:19This is not a fluke.
15:20He's still riding well in fourth.
15:22Seen this the last couple weeks.
15:23As for Marchbanks and those starts, we asked him for a progress report.
15:26Yesterday.
15:29We've been working on clutch stuff.
15:31We're trying a little bit of everything to try to help get me off the gate a little
15:34better.
15:35I can't really blame a lot on my weight.
15:37There's been some heavy guys that have gotten good starts.
15:41But yeah, I mean, a lot of people told me to lose some weight.
15:44But for me, I'm honestly not even that heavy.
15:45And also, like we've noticed through the years, like the more I've cut weight, the less I
15:52could really push through my motos.
15:53So I'm kind of in a good stage of where I want to be.
15:57So now, I think for me, it's just, you know, executing the starts and being more consistent
16:01so I'm not coming from the 15th, 20th every moto.
16:04Well, a little better than that this time.
16:06But still not great.
16:08This is great, though.
16:09Pass made.
16:10Marchbanks up to fourth.
16:12Yeah, you're talking about founding a rhythm.
16:14I think Garrett's got that rhythm.
16:15And, you know, telling Garrett, look at me, you lose weight.
16:17No, you lose weight, you know.
16:19So, you know, as riders know, and I think the biggest thing when you're a little bit
16:23bigger or taller rider like Garrett, the one thing that helps you off the start is being
16:27having a good reaction time.
16:28I think if you're a little bit bigger, if you don't have a good reaction time, you don't
16:32have that.
16:33You can't rely on the bike's power because maybe you are a little bit heavier.
16:36So I don't think he's clearly, if he got good reaction time, he can hole shot it.
16:41So I don't think it's a power thing.
16:43I think he just has to be better on that part and, you know, help him out.
16:47Halfway to this moto, a reminder.
16:49Monster Energy available at BFS Foods.
16:53Man, Joe Shimoda, he's been fighting all day long.
16:56Both motos, Crash Shimoda 1, Crash Shimoda 2, caught back up to Swole now.
17:01Yeah, if we had the RC Hard Charger Award, it might go to him or Garrett.
17:06Austin Fortner out.
17:09Yeah, so it's Swole and Hamaker just ahead of Shimoda.
17:13So the race has come back to Hamaker.
17:14Maybe that shoulder getting to him.
17:16Yeah, not surprising.
17:17And he's been off the bike.
17:18He missed last weekend.
17:19So, you know, these guys are going to have to deal with that race pace.
17:24But still, with Jalik right here, still having a good thing.
17:26I mean, even the same thing with Seth Hamaker.
17:28It's been a good day.
17:29So continue that going, JT.
17:31Yeah, James, you're so right on that.
17:33For Swole, you're riding, what, two and a half weeks?
17:36And to come out here and be, like, this is one of the best motocross rides that Triumph has had, period, in 2025.
17:44And this is right out of the gate.
17:45So if this is where he's starting from, just the base, imagine where he's going to be, give him a few weeks under his belt.
17:51So just a wildly impressive comeback here from Swole.
17:55Yeah, no, I completely agree.
17:57I mean, and he's still fighting.
17:58I mean, you see Seth right there, who almost won our Supercross championship, you know, at the East Coast.
18:04So for him, this is a big confidence builder.
18:06And if he starts fading at this moment, it's expected.
18:10You hear all the riders talk about how difficult this racetrack is.
18:12So it's no slouch.
18:14Jalik's doing a great job out there.
18:15And I love the fight from the kid.
18:17Still out here trying to do his thing.
18:19Shimoda able to make it happen, though, against Swole.
18:22Again, coming back from the Achilles injury.
18:24So reset the order.
18:26Deegan has opened the gap to six seconds over Hymas.
18:29Villal still third.
18:30Marchbank's a long way to go.
18:31Let's see if he can run Villal down, make a bid for the podium.
18:35Cochran fifth.
18:36Kitchen sixth.
18:37Then this battle.
18:39Hamaker, Swole, Shimoda.
18:41Shimoda looking for that seventh.
18:43It's around the outside.
18:45Yeah, Joe should have the pass cover right here.
18:47He'll be on the inside.
18:48And good ride for him.
18:51And it's going to be a frustration day, kind of like we mentioned.
18:53If Eli in that first moto, like, man, as good as you're riding, your finishes don't show that.
18:58And so for him, he's going to be frustrated.
19:00But nonetheless, he continues to fight.
19:02And how about Swole?
19:03Look at this.
19:04Yeah, Jalee, can we swell up on you over here?
19:06So, yeah.
19:08That's what I love about him.
19:09And as JT mentioned, to come back, even with the fitness, you know, in the second moto, tough.
19:16You know, doing really good.
19:18Oh, yeah.
19:19This guy doing really well.
19:21That's Hayden Deegan.
19:22A reminder, you can get a behind-the-scenes look at this Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing squad each week.
19:29Check out beyond the gate.
19:31Go to at Yamaha Motor USA.
19:34And they cover the team both at the races and at the facility in Florida during the week.
19:40Of course, the Deegans have a pretty successful YouTube channel and show of their own that you may have heard of.
19:45So, check out the Deegans as well for their recap every week.
19:48But Hayden, the reset he needed.
19:51Looking for the 1-1 today.
19:53As this battle continues to rage in the bottom box, I think that's Cochran against Kitchen for fifth.
20:00Yeah.
20:00I mean, again, good route by Casey and Levi's coming up after that first lap mistake on there.
20:07Nice pass, Levi.
20:08Get him up there, shut the door, make Casey have to make a decision on whether he wanted to go for it or not.
20:12And he didn't.
20:13But, yeah, back to Hayden as you were talking about, you know, that YouTube channel.
20:18I'm sure he's going to let you know this was a flex move today.
20:21I mean, one of those moves, especially the second moto, how good Chance has been.
20:24Chance is still there.
20:26But, you know, Hayden came out this second moto.
20:29So, once he saw Chance in second, he wanted to flex on him.
20:32And so far, he's done that.
20:34And if he's able to, he'll back up what Chance did last weekend.
20:37We're having a perfect day.
20:38Fastest qualifier, moto one winner.
20:41If he can cap off this with moto two, he'll go 1-1 all through the day.
20:46Yeah, 1-1 responding with a 1-1.
20:49Now, that bottom box, that pass by Kitchen, I think it's going to put him back on the overall podium.
20:56It's just like last week.
20:58At one point, Villal had it last week.
21:00Shimoda, Kitchen was able to rally late and get that third overall.
21:03He might have just done the same thing again.
21:06You look at the overall points.
21:07Yes, he has vaulted to third.
21:09And the reason that matters so much, 250 class, those podium bonuses.
21:13I'm going to say it's 10 to 20 grand for a third, usually, from a factory team.
21:17But they usually don't pay for a fourth.
21:19So, it's like going out and buying, well, I would like to say a new car.
21:24He's got a little more expensive.
21:25Maybe a nice used one just for a third place today.
21:28That's why they fight so hard for those podium spots.
21:30Yeah, these days, it's expensive to car.
21:32You're talking about buying some just tires.
21:33Some tires for the car.
21:35Maybe get some window tint.
21:36Maybe a little extra for a foot rug or something.
21:39Well, if you're digging, though, and you're winning races, not just podiums and titles,
21:45he's going out and buying the fancy stuff.
21:46But the Audi last year went straight to the Lambo dealership in Supercross.
21:51Yeah, we remember him buying that.
21:52The mama took his keys after that one moto.
21:55And he came back and dominated to get those keys back.
21:58So, yeah, no stranger to, you know, to find things in life.
22:02And, I mean, why wouldn't you?
22:03These kids, can you say about it?
22:05We talk about Jet Lawrence a lot in the 450 class.
22:07But you're watching another superstar, you know, in the making.
22:11And, you know, if he moves up next year, I feel like he does have the right attitude
22:16to really compete in that 450 class.
22:18And, you know, somebody who was also talking about his size.
22:21You know, these kids grow.
22:22You adapt to whatever situation you put in.
22:25And if Hayden Deegan is put on a 450, he's going to adapt to it.
22:28Can't wait to watch it.
22:30I can think of some shorter guys who did all right on 450s.
22:34I don't know who you're talking about.
22:35Yep.
22:36I don't know who you're talking about.
22:36There's one guy named Ricky.
22:37There's another one named Ryan Filippotto.
22:39He's pretty darn sporty.
22:40Yeah, Ricky Johnson, he was good.
22:42Yeah, he was, you know, all day.
22:43He was tall.
22:44He was tall.
22:44Dang it.
22:46But, you know, you do start rubbing the hands together thinking about this record
22:50as Deegan continues to win.
22:52Jet Lawrence is the first moto today.
22:54We'll see how he does later.
22:55But the plot thickens when you think of those two potentially on the gate together
22:59with the rest of that 450 field next year.
23:02And Joe Shimoda just continuing to make passes.
23:05He's right there with Cochran now.
23:07Yeah.
23:07If he can get around Casey.
23:08And if you look up, that's Levi Kitchen right in front of him.
23:11And I do believe he makes that pass.
23:13It changes the podium again.
23:14Maybe throws Tom Bial back on there.
23:16Or brings Joe Shimoda up on the podium.
23:19So, who knows?
23:20These passes, they mean something.
23:22And the way Joe is rolling, he probably wants to return the favor
23:25because last week in the second moto, Levi was able to get him at the end
23:28and, you know, switch that up.
23:30Look at these lap times last time around, James.
23:33Shimoda three seconds quicker than Kitchen.
23:36He might just pass him straight out.
23:38No, I think so.
23:39And Levi probably doesn't even know he's there.
23:41That's the cool part.
23:42Once you're in a roll like this, he can probably get him and surprise him.
23:45Levi will wake up.
23:48What are they saying down there in the pits, Katie?
23:50Stu, you're saying he may not know, but he will very soon as he passes his team here.
23:54The pit board says you need to go.
23:56Number 30 is coming.
23:57So, he's getting the warning.
23:59Oh, man.
24:00I can tell you as a rider, that is the worst thing you could put on a pit board.
24:03Somebody's coming.
24:04You're like, I know he's coming.
24:06I can't do anything about it.
24:07I used to get RC's coming.
24:09I wanted to kick the pit board out of the hand.
24:11Like, don't tell me something I don't know.
24:13I told you that rookie guy was good.
24:16Here comes Schmode out the inside.
24:19Makes the pass.
24:20Nice move by Joe.
24:21You saw how he launched out on that jump to just get on the inside of him.
24:24Once you get beside Levi, Levi was obviously going to try to cut it down.
24:28But Joe played that smart.
24:30He's not coming.
24:31He's gone at this point.
24:33Nice ride by Joe.
24:34And through that, believe it or not, the beneficiary is the owl, who is back to the overall podium.
24:42Now that kitchen lost a point.
24:4730 is rolling, though, right now, JT.
24:50He is definitely rolling, Legion.
24:52That's exactly where I wanted to go.
24:53He's turning the fastest lap times on the racetrack.
24:55He was a 2-10-1.
24:57He's faster than even Hayden Deegan out front at a 2-10-8.
24:59So you could question how high Hayden Deegan's effort level is.
25:03But more to the point, Joe Schmode's on a leading this race pace.
25:07He just starts, guys.
25:08Whether it's Chance Heimans, whether it's Joe Schmode, Levi Kitchen, the list goes on.
25:12That first lap positioning is everything for these guys right now.
25:16Yeah, and today Deegan didn't have to dig too deep to make some passes like he has had to do in other motos this year or this race last year.
25:24He had the track position both times.
25:26Yeah, and it really wouldn't even necessarily start for Joe.
25:29He went down early in the race, so big high side.
25:32But, yeah, it ain't your average Joe today.
25:34It's Joe time.
25:35He's moving up and might be the farthest he can get.
25:37March Baines is about eight seconds in front of him.
25:40But the way Joe is rolling, he might have a shot at him.
25:43Time clicking away for Deegan.
25:46Four and a half minutes and two laps left.
25:49And he's deep into lap traffic.
25:51You're going to say five laps.
25:52That's the side from the mechanic, Brent Duffy.
25:54Okay, I think this answer is probably pretty obvious.
25:58But what does this mean for Deegan to go and hang a 1-1 on Hymas?
26:02It means, I mean, for Hayden in the championship, not much.
26:05I mean, because Chance was a little far back.
26:07But, you know, just confidence-wise, you start to wonder when we heard Chance come on the show in the first moto before we got started talking about confidence and trying to find it.
26:17Well, this answers that for him as far as, like, hey, Deegan shuts that part down.
26:23You know, hey, kid, you were good last weekend.
26:24But that was last weekend on the track where I had bike problems and I went down to second moto.
26:28We come back to the real outdoor on the east coast.
26:31You start a second.
26:32You were fast.
26:33And I pulled a gap and kind of made it look pretty easy.
26:36So, you know, championship-wise, it ain't doing much.
26:39But just mentally stopping that belief that Chance might have had was gaining.
26:44Definitely closed that door for at least this weekend.
26:46Gap up to nearly nine seconds between Deegan and Heimus right now.
26:52Heimus will be second overall today if it ends like this.
26:55Send it back to JT.
26:58Well, with Hayden Deegan, I'm really curious to see what his demeanor and what his comments are on the podium.
27:02Remember last year at this race, he even said something like, you know, I had to show Chance and he doesn't have a chance.
27:09And he was all business this morning.
27:11There was no nonsense after time qualifying.
27:13Seemed a little bit looser after moto.
27:15So, one, I just want to see if we're back to the Hayden Deegan that is not scared to talk smack because he doesn't feel like anybody can do anything about it.
27:22Yeah, and I think maybe one of the reasons why he doesn't say it is because he understands.
27:28And, again, I don't think Hayden is disrespecting any of these riders.
27:33You know, his comments are not meant as a disrespect.
27:35It's more meant as, you know, hey, his confidence.
27:38And maybe he doesn't say that much about Chance because he knows how good Chance is.
27:41And so, back it up.
27:42But I'm sure a cooking comment might come in there as well.
27:45Oh, yeah, let's change that one.
27:47Don't miss that.
27:48Also, don't miss your chance to win exclusive Super Motocross World Championship merchandise.
27:55Scout the QR code on the screen right now to become an SMX insider today.
28:00And then you can enter for a chance to win exclusive SMX World Championship gear signed by the top riders.
28:10Battle's still going.
28:11This is Thrasher and Handmaker.
28:13So, these are two riders who have a little momentum today.
28:16Okay, the finish here outside the top ten.
28:19Not what they wanted, but it's been an awful start to the year for Thrasher.
28:22We mentioned 18th, his best so far.
28:24Handmaker coming back, missing a race last weekend with injury.
28:27So, they're just bringing it to the line now.
28:31Yeah, good ride.
28:33I mean, Seth coming out with a shoulder injury, it's not surprising.
28:36And then, you know, Nate, same thing.
28:38So, these guys are out here.
28:39And, again, how deep this field is.
28:42You know, I know, Seth, both of these riders want more.
28:44But it's still the top 15.
28:46It's clearly we've seen.
28:48If you get a start, this could be a battle for a top five.
28:51So, for these guys, just got to continue to fight.
28:53And I do believe they'll just continue getting building better and better, Katie.
28:57Yeah, for the number 41, the team was saying that the two goals for Nate Thrasher out there
29:02is that he needs to stay consistent through the whole race.
29:06And he needs to get a blazing lap out of him.
29:08And then they need to string those laps together.
29:10And, of course, they know they can get that fast lap out of him.
29:13They just want to see more and more of it.
29:15So, it's kind of like putting the whole puzzle together.
29:17Does that make sense, Stu?
29:18No, absolutely.
29:19And it's kind of to my point, what I was saying, just, you know, logging these laps and being up front.
29:24I mean, this guy hasn't been on the podium on the outdoors.
29:27So, you know, when you start looking at over time injuries and all these things, Nate does have the speed.
29:33Clearly, he knows how to win races.
29:35He's done that in Supercross.
29:36So, the only thing he needs to do is just get out here, just like we're watching Jalik Swole,
29:41just like we hear Chance Hymas talk about just need that confidence.
29:45Eventually, his riding will be able to do it, and he'll be able to move forward.
29:49It's like Swole has made the move on Cochran.
29:52I did not have Swole making late race passes at Moto2 on the bingo car.
29:57This guy is coming back from a devastating injury.
30:00He told me yesterday that the speed during the week is there.
30:03Maybe not quite the endurance yet, but he's looking strong right now.
30:07Yeah, no, this is very impressive with Jalik.
30:09And the way this track is, you know, I think it would allow him maybe to ride around some of his deficiencies,
30:14as far as his injuries.
30:15You know, if you're very patient, you can rest on this racetrack like here.
30:20You know, I know it's a super tough section, but he's able to relax by being patient.
30:24He's able to get to that inside.
30:26Nobody's going to pass him.
30:27He's going around the shortest part around the racetrack.
30:29He's sitting down, going up the hill.
30:31So, he's doing smart as a racer.
30:32If you're lacking a little bit, just rest up, and this track is allowed.
30:37But nonetheless, you know, he's running seventh place.
30:40Solid, solid day outside of Hayden Deegan.
30:43This is a very impressive route for Jalik to come back from this injury.
30:46And he'd be the top rider on the Triumph team in this moto if it ends like this.
30:51They believe top overall as well.
30:53He'd be looking at a ninth overall.
30:55So, welcome back.
30:56And by the way, High Point Swole won this race at this track a couple years ago in its Rockstar Husky days.
31:02That was 2021, so maybe there's a little thing special for him at this track.
31:09But overall, man, coming back from a torn Achilles is good this early.
31:14Yeah, no, for sure.
31:15I mean, nonetheless, no matter where it's at, it's still impressive for him to come out here.
31:20These guys get out here, and Jalik can finish this thing off.
31:23It'll be great.
31:23Now, there is one of his teammates, the 107, Mikko Harrop, battling it out with Ryder DeFrancisco.
31:29Pass made on the downhill.
31:31Yeah, that was a pretty easy pass by Mikko.
31:34Like, you see Ryder De didn't get that rhythm.
31:37And the way he was in those rollers, he was in that soft spot.
31:40So, every time he would gas it, he would just be in the softer part because all the roosties getting thrown up.
31:44So, good pass by him.
31:46These guys are just trying to finish this off.
31:48This track is super difficult for him, and not just physically, but really just mentally because there's a lot of slippery parts in here.
31:55And it's like, man, you got this deep stuff, then you got a hard pack, and easy to make mistakes if you're not watching out.
32:03Good to see Harrop, the very friendly Danish rider, spending a summer in the United States.
32:08He'll go back and race MXGP in Europe and around the world next year in their 450 class, what they call MX1.
32:16But Triumph doesn't have a 450 that they're racing yet.
32:21The bike is available for sale, but they want one more year of development before they go racing.
32:26We'll see him in the 450 class in Monster Energy Supercross on the whole SMX World Championship next year.
32:32Mikko will go back to Europe, back home, and race it over there.
32:37But in the meantime, he said, hey, why don't you come to America and have fun on the 250 for the summer?
32:41And he's doing quite well.
32:42No, he's doing great.
32:43He's a young rider, he's only 23 years old, so, you know, good for him.
32:47And Casey Cochran, if you don't watch out, he's right in front of him, so he can see him.
32:51And Casey might not even know he's that close as almost loses front end going down his track.
32:56It's difficult.
32:57And when you're in a situation where you're Casey, you start, like, just trying to finish this thing off.
33:01You're where Mikko is, is, look, I'm moving forward.
33:04And we've seen a lot of opportunities to pass around this racetrack, so you can just be there.
33:08And it's going to be one of those passes right here, not close enough, is Harrop.
33:16Yeah, thank you.
33:17Casey went in that corner a little bit slower than he was preparing.
33:20It kind of messed him up, so close that gap back up.
33:25He caught him pretty fast.
33:26So let's see if he can just, you know, find his lines again.
33:29He might have an opportunity to get around Casey.
33:30Two laps to go.
33:33Deegan right now, if it ends this way, would have his largest victory margin of the year.
33:38But see if he cruises through these final laps.
33:41Harrop's not cruising.
33:44Going to try the outside.
33:46Yeah, nice move.
33:48I think he knew he had to pass by Casey's body language going down the hill.
33:52He's like, look, if I just get beside him, I don't think he's going to fight me too hard.
33:55But Casey ain't going to give up either.
33:58He knows he has another opportunity if he can just stay with him.
34:00Only a lap and a half to go.
34:03Cochran missed all of Supercross with a femur injury.
34:07Broken femur.
34:08That's the thigh bone.
34:08That's a big one.
34:10So that's why maybe the fitness not quite there so far this summer.
34:14But he has had good starts.
34:15And he has shown speed.
34:17But Harrop, able to get the better of him.
34:20That might be the last battle out here.
34:22You can see the overall.
34:24Looks like it's going to shape up.
34:26Deegan, Hymus, and Vial.
34:27So not an outstanding day for Vial.
34:31But as we mentioned, hasn't been on the Modo podium since round one.
34:34Same thing with the overall.
34:35So a little bit of a rebuild for Vial.
34:39Yeah.
34:39I mean, I think overall, just for KTM, I think there's more benefits.
34:42You know, the team, all the hard work.
34:44It shows them get on the podium.
34:46You know, Tom Vial, the way his season's been going, maybe for him as well.
34:49Like, he's, you know, happy to be back on there.
34:51But, again, he wants to be closer to Hayden Deegan.
34:53And, you know, as you were talking about these guys and fitness, the one thing we kind of overlook,
34:58especially for guys that's coming off injuries, is that these four weeks have been so difficult for these guys.
35:03You have Paula, which is just a gnarly racetrack in general.
35:06Then you go to one of the hottest races ever in Hangtown.
35:09Then you go to the altitude.
35:10And then you come here, which is another tricky place.
35:13So it's not surprising that maybe their fitness is not all the way there over to the four-week stretch
35:19that they've been really working, putting their bodies through all this.
35:21And if you came off an injury, came off the couch for Paula, it's not surprising that you might be feeling it a little bit.
35:27These guys are looking forward to the weekend off.
35:30Yes, that's right.
35:31And they better rest up because Southwick looms after that break.
35:35And that's a physically demanding soundtrack as well.
35:39And, you know, Deegan probably be pretty tough there.
35:41Looking to go three out of four and overalls to start 20-25.
35:50Yeah, I like Peyton because even when he on that podium, you know, you heard him.
35:55He was like, people don't think I can win again, you know.
35:58And I'm like, what's one loss?
36:00And I remember being young at his age, too.
36:02And it's not that he actually believed that people actually thought he could win.
36:06But one person might have said it.
36:08It's just the point that he'll talk himself into it.
36:10And I know I talked myself into believing that, that that's a fact, that, look, I'm motivating myself.
36:16And it just shows you when a guy at this level is, you know, as much as Hayden's won and all the success that his father's had, his sister had,
36:23to have that attitude to keep just grinding, it really comes from the comments and him really making stories up in his minds,
36:31whether he really believes it or not.
36:33And he'll make himself believe it and then comes out and lays the wood to these guys this week.
36:37Yeah, whatever he needed to do, he did it and it worked because Deegan is looking for the perfect day.
36:43Monster Energy fast qualifier and headed to a 1-1.
36:48Hayden Deegan sweeps high point 20-25.
36:51The owl.
36:56Can he bring it home for the podium in the moto and overall?
37:00That's a lap rider that he's dealing with there.
37:03Hymas dug deep in moto one.
37:06No, but Chance went down.
37:07I was looking at the lap times.
37:08Oh, there it is.
37:09I assumed Chance was ahead.
37:10Where is Chance?
37:11Yeah, no, Chance must have went down because I'm looking at lap times.
37:13I'm like, Hayden had 17 seconds.
37:15Oh, bummer.
37:17He came across in third and it's going to cost him the podium.
37:20I believe Kitchen is going to.
