00:00And Jet rockets to the lead, he's got Jorge Prado on his hip, Cody Schock around the outside,
00:12put Jet Lawrence to the lead, and Hunter up to second.
00:15Carmen Gaffey of that first moto, and you know Jet Lawrence probably's not going to make that same mistake,
00:21and he knows how good Hunter's been riding all day, but perfect start by the 18 to get out to this moto.
00:27So, Schock challenging Hunter.
00:31Look at Cody go here on the Munkoff epic start, Plumbecks, and Yamaha.
00:37Not enough. Lawrence Brothers 1-2 again.
00:40Ooh, that was close by Hunter. They put a little bit of water down just like they did.
00:43Track's going to be a little slippery, but you can see how aggressive Jet is already trying to get away
00:48and see if he can end this race pretty early, but that's going to be hard with Hunter Lawrence and how good he's riding.
00:53Looks like Chase X has made his way up into third place now.
00:56Nice scrub past Cody Schock.
00:59Now, just like last weekend, Sakamoto was a lot better for Chase Sexton.
01:03Let's see if he can repeat that and get on Jet because Jet's already starting to get away.
01:08He's going to have his hands full.
01:10Katie mentioned that KTM team, they wanted Chase to be more aggressive.
01:13Well, he goes by Prado and Schock in quick fashion, and he's here to challenge those Hondas.
01:18It's Mount Martin 500 feet just about top to bottom.
01:28And remember, you saw Sexton and Hunter Lawrence battle a ton last year for this championship.
01:33Jet was out injured.
01:33So Sexton has to pedigree to roam with him.
01:37There is Prado.
01:39Yeah, no, Chase clearly does.
01:41But this is the part where you haven't been racing that lack, that intensity.
01:45That's what you can't replicate as Jorge Prado goes up the inside of Cody Schock.
01:49Now, with Jorge, it's all been really a lot of mental stuff for him.
01:55So he's going to have to, you know, remember who he is.
01:58Otherwise, it's going to be a long moto for him.
02:00But the same thing he did in the earlier part of the first moto, he's got to finish it off.
02:04Yeah, opening laps have been good for Prado the last couple of weeks.
02:07See Justin Barsha come flying in there, sixth on the rock start.
02:11Gas, Gas.
02:13Shock and Prado going at it.
02:15They ride together at Club MX actually during the week, even though they're not on the same team.
02:19Prado is using that South Carolina facility to ride and test, get used to American style.
02:25Honestly, weather and tracks.
02:27Good battle here.
02:29Yeah, you can see how hard Jorge ran it in that corner.
02:31That's a little bit of frustration because that's one of those things that you know you're not going to build a pass.
02:35But, you know, him, Cody did a great pass going around the outside of him.
02:39Probably a little frustrating.
02:40Now, this is where Jorge has been struggling.
02:43Once he starts getting the pass, it just seems like he keeps going the other way.
02:46So let's see a little bit of fight for him.
02:50Jorge is doing all that he can to get around shock.
02:53And, of course, we know this is the same old story.
02:55Each weekend, there is always a direct battle happening with Jorge Prado.
02:59In fact, between his two motos, they did make some adjustments, suspension adjustments.
03:04He was not happy with how the bike was working in that first moto.
03:07So the team also continued to say, he has a good start.
03:10We just now got to make sure that he gets comfortable on the bike.
03:12And that is the same story that we're hearing for Jorge Prado here this season.
03:15Thanks, Kenny.
03:17Look at Barsha come flying down that hill and take the measure of shock.
03:22I've been impressed with Barsha coming back from injury here and riding well.
03:27Catch Eli Tomac.
03:28He's at 11th.
03:29He's under fire from Tony Caroli.
03:31So not what you expect from the four-time, 450 motocross channel.
03:36See if they can move forward.
03:37Jason, can you look at that lap time that Jet just ran?
03:41A 154.
03:42What?
03:43I don't even know if I want to see it.
03:45Yes.
03:45Yeah, I mean, it's impressive that Hunter, that time is accurate, him closing that gap down.
03:52But...
03:53Oh, wait a minute.
03:53Well, just as quickly as we're singing the praise to the 18.
03:5696, closing back up on his little bro.
03:59Yeah, I mean, Hunter must have had a good lap, but...
04:02Yeah, Jet went back to a 158.
04:05Yeah, I don't know if I've ever seen that that early.
04:08Four seconds different between the opening lap.
04:11So was that a mistake by Jet to drop off or Hunter is picking it up?
04:15But nonetheless, this is what Hunter needed to do because Jet, by running that lap time
04:19and how aggressive he was, it looks like he was trying to put it into that streak early
04:23and maybe put Hunter before he's just got to settle for a second by getting away with him.
04:27But Hunter's doing a good job staying there.
04:30And then you got the number one lurking about three seconds behind him.
04:34I was going to say, that's the litmus test.
04:35You know Hunter's still on the gas.
04:37He's pulled away just a little bit from Sexton there in third.
04:42Yeah, I'm thinking that time on that beginning.
04:45I don't know if that was accurate because that's pretty fast.
04:48But who knows, the guy's that good, but I don't know if he's that good.
04:54But nonetheless, good to see Hunter Lawrence staying with him because this is what he needed to do.
04:59And I do believe Chase Sexton's got to do everything he can.
05:02If he wants to have a shot at winning this race, if he's within a few seconds by halfway,
05:07then he'll have a shot.
05:08But the problem has been those guys have been a little quicker than him all day long.
05:13And if he loses a toe, it's going to be hard to catch him, as we've seen happen at first Moto.
05:18So Prado is taking control of fourth from Schock, who's now under pressure from Hampshire.
05:24Hampshire on the right.
05:26On the white, Rockstar Husqvarna.
05:29Hampshire jumping up to the top.
05:31Right there with Schock now.
05:33Yeah, let's see what RJ does.
05:35I mean, this guy's becoming a top five specialist, you know, week in and week out, Moto in Moto.
05:39So he's gaining confidence as he goes past Cody Schock around the outside.
05:44Cody.
05:45Light on the inside, works out for him.
05:47Nice move by Cody.
05:48He thought RJ was going to have it, but Cody's putting up a fight.
05:52But RJ should have him right here.
05:53Nice little scrub.
05:54You'll have the inside in this next corner.
05:58And finishes the pass.
06:02Good job by Hefshire.
06:03It's been rock solid.
06:05Jumping up to the 450 for the first time here in Pro Motocross.
06:09This season, Schock has been feisty today, though.
06:13Yeah, Cody's been running really good.
06:15I mean, he's another guy who's moved up to the 450 class.
06:18So he's learning his bike, you know, learning the way these tracks are on a 450.
06:22So not surprising he's getting better and what a start can do for all these guys.
06:26But RJ has been really consistent.
06:28I say by him, almost losing the front end right there.
06:31But he's been consistent these last few races, being that top five guy.
06:35We'll see what happens.
06:36Katie?
06:36Yeah, one of the things the team said in between Moto One and now is that RJ really needed to focus on his speed right after the start in those first couple of laps.
06:46Obviously, we're seeing him get around Cody.
06:48The other thing that you shared with me was that he's connecting more with the bike than they have ever seen.
06:53And he doesn't need to override it.
06:55Sue, how important on a track like this, with the conditions that it's in, is it to not override the bike?
07:00It's really, really important.
07:03So it's kind of a catch-22.
07:05The team's telling you you need to be faster in the opening part of the races and ride.
07:09But that kind of says you've got to override the motorcycle a little bit to be comfortable.
07:14Because it's one of those things that it's more of a mindset and just have to practice and over and over.
07:19It's not easy picking it up.
07:21And that's the Jet Lawrence effect.
07:22He's making all these guys here from the team where you've got to be quicker in the opening part of the races.
07:28Well, how good does 18 have been?
07:29It doesn't really matter when they're quick.
07:31They're just not quick enough.
07:32But good to see RJ out here.
07:34And now good to see Eli Toback moving forward.
07:37Because we really wasn't sure what happened that first Moto and then a bad start.
07:42It's going to be a tough day for Eli.
07:44But good to see him with a little fight.
07:45Yeah, he started to put it together, pulling away from Corolla a bit.
07:48He just passed your brother Malcolm Stewart there down to the bottom of the hill.
07:52And he has Justin Cooper and Barsha right ahead of him.
07:57Yeah, it looks like Tony Corolla is still following Eli up the...
08:00Oh, no, wait, Malcolm coming back.
08:04Look at that.
08:06He knows we're watching.
08:08He knows we're watching.
08:09Throw that fishing hook.
08:09Hook into him, so.
08:13It's not what we expect from Eli Toback.
08:15Again, the four-time chap struggles in Moto 1.
08:18And you and I had a real conversation even during the break about him, Prado,
08:21riders who are used to winning.
08:23And you talk so much about the mental side and what happens when you're mired back here.
08:28Yeah, and you see it.
08:30I mean, Eli, clearly, he has his speed.
08:32He has his bursts of speed.
08:34But it just seems like when things are going wrong, there's really not a lot of fight.
08:39And it's not because he doesn't try.
08:40But it's because the championship's gone.
08:42Eli wants to be battling with Jet Lawrence.
08:45And when you're Jorge Prado and Eli Toback, when they're all about winning championships,
08:49when you can't do that, people don't understand how hard it is for these guys to go out here racing.
08:55And they think they're either tired or quitting.
08:57It's a mental battle that is so difficult to deal with.
09:01And I went through that.
09:02It took me a couple years to go through that fact to get my confidence.
09:05And so what you're seeing is a router who expects to be up front, who's not up front,
09:10who doesn't care about being intent.
09:11And that's hard.
09:13Yeah.
09:13It's been tough today on Toback.
09:17As Jet Lawrence continues to lead.
09:25Hunter Lawrence.
09:26He's applying serious pressure.
09:28Jet almost threw it away on the downside of Mount Martin.
09:33Hunter is right there.
09:35Yeah, you saw that, too.
09:37And that's 100%.
09:38That is from Hunter Lawrence, you know, putting that pressure on him.
09:42Jet's charging down that hill.
09:43He probably missed his spot by an inch and ended up going, almost going down right there.
09:47So, JT, he's putting that pressure on the A-team.
09:51He's trying to, James.
09:52But, you know, we're in that zone here where we always feel like Jet's going to be nervous.
09:58Jet's going to feel the pressure.
09:59There's somebody sitting on his rear wheel.
10:01And it just doesn't seem like that ever equates anything to Jet.
10:04And I just wonder, is it a more comfortable feeling because it's his big brother sitting there?
10:10Or is it less comfortable because he knows how well Hunter's been riding all day?
10:14What do you think, James?
10:15From looking at the mistakes, I would say it's more uncomfortable because of how good the 96 is riding.
10:23And he knows how strong he is because he rides one of them every day.
10:26So, the way today he's going, it's not like the normal thing where, hey, he'll just eventually get this.
10:32We saw him make a few mistakes going down the hill, made another one.
10:35And, yeah, he's got his hands full with the 96, giving him confidence.
10:39And towing along Chase Sexton as well as R.J. gets around Jorge.
10:43Cooking around the outside.
10:45Half-sharp with the pass, James.
10:46Yeah, no, R.J.'s been making some strong passes for him.
10:50So, makes his way up into fourth place where he finished that first moto.
10:53And this is where Jorge has been struggling at this year.
10:58Like we mentioned, once he gets past, you can see that gap.
11:01And it's a tough position to be in because, again, he wants to be on the podium.
11:05He does not want to be going on backwards.
11:07And it's a fine line between getting good starts.
11:10And when you're Jorge Prada, Eli Tomac, a good start could be the worst thing for you
11:15because if you start going the wrong way, it just ruins your confidence.
11:18And so, you're better off just getting a 10th place start and finishing 12th
11:23than getting a good start and end up 10th.
11:24And I think that's what we see with Jorge and even Eli, that first moto,
11:28where they're up front and the next thing you know, they're battling for 15th.
11:32And it ain't because they're quitting.
11:33It's just a hard thing, like I mentioned earlier.
11:35Yeah, and you also don't think it's fitness.
11:37It's going to look to the layman that Prado is just not fit enough to maintain the pace.
11:43You think it's almost more mental.
11:45Yeah, I would bet my life that it's more mental because it's not like if it was fitness,
11:51you know, he would be going super fast and then all of a sudden he would just kind of drop off.
11:55Right now, you can see it in his body language.
11:57It looks the same to people on the outside, but this is a mental battle right here, Jorge.
12:02And it's not surprising as Hunter Lawrence is closing in on his brother,
12:06it's not surprising that it's only getting worse and it's a tough position for him to be in.
12:11But I know Jorge, he is trying, the Kawasaki team is trying, it's frustrating for all those guys.
12:17But this is a battle that Jorge has never experienced and he's dealing with it right now.
12:20I'll tell you who's trying.
12:21Jet Lawrence is trying.
12:22This is not, to my eye, maintaining a comfortable gap.
12:26He is hauling the mail and cannot get away.
12:29Yeah, he is and to me, when I'm watching Hunter, we haven't showed him a lot,
12:33but he looks a little bit more comfortable than Jet, you know, being behind him.
12:37And if Jet doesn't know, he didn't see Hunter that first moto because he went down and Hunter had such a gap.
12:41So he doesn't know his lines where Hunter's learning where Jet is really strong
12:45and Jet wasn't able to get away from him, which only gave him confidence.
12:49But at the same time, I do feel like these brothers are secretly working together.
12:54Their whole goal is to drop that number one and three.
12:57So I don't think Hunter's going to do anything to really slow that pace down
13:01because he doesn't want to bring the number one back into it.
13:03So they got a good pace and we'll let these rates battle out between the brothers.
13:07Still a long way to go.
13:09Hunter Lawrence wants that first ever overall win.
13:15And he's right at it.
13:19There's Jet Lawrence.
13:27One second gap over his brother.
13:30Whoever wins this moto wins the overall.
13:33Jet has won them all this year.
13:35He's won nearly all of them that he's ever raced in this class in pro motocross.
13:41But today, maybe the strongest challenge yet from his brother.
13:44Yeah, and when you're watching Hunter's bike, Hunter's bike looks better than Jet.
13:48To me, Hunter's able to kind of go in these insides.
13:51If you're watching Jet Lawrence, like he's going towards the outside.
13:54It feels like he has to hit these burns.
13:56Where Hunter's able to go down that hard, slippery spot.
14:00And you're seeing Jet losing the front end, losing the rear end,
14:03where Hunter Lawrence seems like he can kind of go where he wants.
14:05So to me, the bike setup's a little bit different.
14:08It looks a lot better and easier to ride for the 96 than it is.
14:10Jet.
14:11We'll see how it plays out for the rest of the race.
14:13Hunter had two laps in the 156s that were quicker than Jet.
14:16Then Jet goes 156 to reestablish that gap.
14:20Get it back.
14:21It's one second, and now it's 1.8.
14:24Critical juncture here.
14:26Can the 96 reel it back in?
14:28He's trying.
14:28Yeah, like even through there, Hunter's bike's a lot more calmer than Jet.
14:39I do believe Jet is faster, and if he has a clean lap, he'll pull away from Hunter.
14:44But overall, Hunter can stay there because his motorcycle looks a little bit better to me.
14:54Halfway through, final race of the day at Millville.
14:56Reminder that Monster Energy is available at Quick Trip.
15:01Who's going to win it?
15:17Last sector a little bit to the good for the 18th.
15:23Yeah, but this line right there, Hunter is able to go back inside.
15:26And he's actually making some time up.
15:28Jet seems like he has to funnel out to the outside.
15:30And even going down the hill, you see how much time Hunter is able to close in on these, you know, sweeping parts of the corners.
15:38I think Hunter has the better line going down Mount Martin because it looks like he's slowing down
15:42and almost picking the front wheel up and wheeling over those bumps instead of charging down it like Jet.
15:47And you can see a lot of feedback into it.
15:49But that's the luxury that Hunter has because he's watching Jet and he's able to react off of what he's doing.
15:55Barsha and Guillaume battling for six in that bottom box.
15:59If you're wondering why the gap that you see there on the left side of the screen hasn't changed,
16:04it's because Jet and Hunter had identical lap times down to the 10th.
16:091.57-0 for both the last time around.
16:14Battle of wheels now between the brothers as Barsha making his way against Guillaume.
16:19You can see Jet is watching his front end.
16:24It looks a little bit taller, taller than Hunter, a little bit busier.
16:29But the problem is he's figuring out how to run and pull him away as we say that, JT.
16:35Just watching this battle on the bottom box, Joe James.
16:38And this is another classic Guillaume and Barsha battle that we've had over the years.
16:42Oh, yeah.
16:43The one thing I would say for Guillaume is I hope he has some sort of hazard insurance
16:46because if he tries to pass Barsha on the outside,
16:49there's going to be a lot of red applied to that blue motorcycle.
16:52I'm sure Guillaume knows that, but Barsha has not been in the mood to play around.
16:55We saw how aggressive he was with Prado earlier.
16:58Well, he's going to try it here.
17:00Barsha went over the berm to try to stop him.
17:02Guillaume knifes underneath.
17:05And he's getting away quickly.
17:06Barsha went off the track to try to stop him.
17:09That's how much he cares.
17:09He don't like to be passed.
17:11But the problem is Guillaume better get away because Barsha got to relapse here in a little bit.
17:16He's, you can't go and let that happen.
17:18And we got Cody Shock in the middle saying, look, man, I'm innocent.
17:21Yeah, Cody's like, I'm, yeah, I ain't trying to, I'm just here to run, man.
17:24I'm just trying to do it.
17:25Please leave me alone out here.
17:27There's Barsha on the outside.
17:29As you watch Jet maintain that exact gap over Hunter.
17:34Now in a lot of traffic.
17:36Becchio running sixth right now.
17:39He, he need to be running away.
17:41He's scared.
17:42Yeah, get away so Barsha forgets about you.
17:46He's got all the motivation in the world to keep charging.
17:50Hampshire fourth, sixth and third.
17:52They've all been dropped by the Lawrences.
17:54Champ was able to put three tents into Hunter the last time around.
17:59Were you theorizing that he's actually figuring the motorcycle out?
18:02Yeah, well, he's learning, he's, yeah, he's learning to ride it.
18:07So, you know, these lap, lap riders are making it difficult.
18:10But yeah, the 18's figuring it out.
18:12But Hunter Lawrence is still there.
18:13Yep.
18:13Even through lap traffic matching each other.
18:19Okay.
18:20Settling for the final ten minutes and two laps.
18:23Lawrence Brothers battling Ford at Spring Creek.
18:26Two point one, the gap.
18:37So when you're watching Jet's motorcycle right now, if you look at his front end, it looks really busy to me.
18:43And when I was saying he's starting to figure out how to ride it, what I'm noticing is he's starting to pick the front end up in these corners.
18:48Anytime he's on the lane, instead of having the front tire on the ground, he's starting to lean back and really to keep that front tire off.
18:55Because right now it's really busy for him and he's almost losing the front end because of that.
19:00Where I watch Hunter, Hunter is able to drive the front end, which is allowing him to be able to go to the insides and out.
19:06And so, to me, Hunter, as he's charging down that hill, his bike looks a little bit more comfortable.
19:11But Jet will figure this out.
19:13And it's going to be important for Hunter to put the pressure on him because Jet has this gap.
19:17If he's able to figure that bike out because of the lines, if Hunter puts that pressure on him, then Jet won't have that luxury.
19:25I go all the way back to High Point in the 250 class a couple years ago with the first real great battle we saw between the brothers.
19:32And Hunter said it's like the Velociraptor in Jurassic Park.
19:35Just keeps learning new skills.
19:37He'll learn from me.
19:37I'll learn from him.
19:38They get faster and faster as the race goes on.
19:41Back to Katie.
19:42Yeah, and one of the things I'd like to talk about is going back just last week to the Red Dead and how important it was.
19:47For Jet to get that win.
19:49He had mentioned he wrote his heart out to get that win under his belt.
19:52And his motivation was himself, his family, and the team.
19:55Also, the head guy from Honda HRC, Mr. Ishikawa, was at Red Bud.
20:01And he was telling me how important it really is to have the support and trust of Honda.
20:06He said, look, with them coming to these races, them seeing these results, whether it be me or with Hunter, with Joe,
20:12it's so important that they see that because we need to continue building the trust.
20:17We might be winning championships, and they might see that, but to experience the wins, to be a part of it,
20:23that's really how that trust with the team itself is being built.
20:26Well, Katie, what I would think the takeaway would be, yes, you can see the results.
20:30The president of Honda HRC visiting from Japan last weekend.
20:33He can check the results on Saturday night, but it's so loose in that pit.
20:40You would never think it is the way it is.
20:42It is so serious.
20:44We're down to hundreds of a second right now.
20:46These two try to outfox each other.
20:48But when you see them all weekend long, just like the family cookout.
20:52Yeah, no, it's really cool.
20:54You come up close and personal, and that's why you have a chance to get to these races.
20:58Like, yeah, you see it on TV, but being here, it's just a different experience,
21:02and he was able to watch that and watch the intensity on these guys
21:06and even the reaction with the fans, how they are with their fans and stuff.
21:10Really cool to see.
21:10And for whatever reason, the ball showed up.
21:13Joe got it done.
21:14They got it done.
21:16It's a great weekend last weekend for Honda.
21:18It slipped away in the 250 class today.
21:21It could have been Shimoda's.
21:23It's just a matter now of which Honda wins Spring Creek in the 450s.
21:28I cannot believe how well Hunter Lawrence is riding.
21:32Every time I see him, I'm impressed.
21:34Yet, not able to make it happen.
21:38It's got to get frustrating.
21:39He always denies that.
21:41We know that he doesn't ride on the emotion, but, man, is he riding well today.
21:45And now we've got 2.4 seconds.
21:47Yeah, and it probably is a little bit for him
21:49because Jets right there and Hunter is riding really good.
21:53And you can see, you know, he knows that he's maybe struggling with the bike a little bit.
21:57But, again, Hunter's opportunity is right now.
22:01He cannot let his brother have any bigger gap than he has.
22:04But it's going to be tough.
22:05Yeah, and he's got to get through some traffic.
22:08That did not help.
22:092.6 seconds to gap.
22:10No.
22:11Seven minutes and two laps to go.
22:13A couple other battles we're going to keep you on top of.
22:16Barsha and Shock.
22:20Gio still just ahead.
22:23Sixth, seventh, eighth.
22:26Yeah, Gio's running.
22:27Oh, yeah.
22:29You know, Barsha doesn't, he doesn't forget anything.
22:32So, a good route by Cody to get up here in the middle, having a strong performance.
22:38Seventh, run good all day long.
22:40Set it to Katie.
22:43There's a mechanic for Shaw, Katie.
22:45Yeah, they're stoked out here seeing him right in the way he is.
22:48He's 13 in points.
22:50I did get a chance to talk to the number 37 earlier this weekend.
22:53And he said he's so happy with where he's at in the season.
22:56He also said he's extremely happy with where he's at in his life.
23:00He feels like he's presenting himself off track and on track in a way that he's really content with.
23:05And he says it's amazing that when my home life with my fiancée Emily
23:09and what we've got going and bringing that to the track,
23:12everything seems to kind of be going in the right motion.
23:15He also said that he was excited to be back here at Spring Creek after four years.
23:19It's amazing.
23:19We talk about these guys.
23:21We see them on the track every so often.
23:23Yet it's been since 2021 that Cody Shock actually rode here.
23:33Checking in with the leader here, Pro Motocross from Minnesota.
23:37And just starting to inch away now down the stretch.
23:42Jet Lawrence, 3.3 seconds, the gap now.
23:47It's nine-tenths of a second quicker than Hunter the last time around.
23:53Starting to get it back under control.
23:55Yeah, it looks good.
23:59Yeah.
24:00You can see his lines.
24:02He's just figuring it out.
24:03Those mistakes are being less and less.
24:05And, you know, again, you're watching him.
24:08He's banking off the corners, being a little bit patient.
24:10And because Hunter's not right on him, it's allowing him to do that.
24:15There's Hunter.
24:16There's that gap.
24:16Bigger than it was.
24:17He's riding so well.
24:21And really, it would be a great story.
24:22The 2023 250 champ.
24:25How well he rode last year.
24:26Battling Sexton for this title.
24:28Nearly winning the SMX World Championship.
24:30Tying for it.
24:31And then riding so well this year.
24:33But everything's overshadowed by the record of Jet Lawrence.
24:36Go back to Chase Sexton.
24:37Now 21 seconds back in third.
24:40But still a step.
24:41It'd be a podium.
24:42And his return last week.
24:44Didn't get on the box.
24:45That's a little better for the Red Bull KTM men.
24:48Watch that chatapult there.
24:50Yeah.
24:50Yeah, I don't think the gap is 23 seconds slower.
24:54I think Chase lost that toe.
24:55I mean, he doesn't have the pace.
24:57But he's doing what he said he was going to do.
24:59He's not going to override it.
25:00And if he knows he's not ready to go at this level,
25:03like then finish his third place.
25:05So he'll get better and better.
25:07But there will be certain tracks that he'll ride better.
25:09And certain tracks he'll have days like this.
25:11Another good day for R.J. Hefshire.
25:15Looking for fourth overall if it ends like this.
25:18And running fourth in this moto.
25:20Great story here with R.J.
25:22The long time wild man of the 250 class showing he can tame the 450.
25:27Probably smoother on this bike.
25:29Yeah, he definitely is.
25:31This is becoming the norm for R.J.
25:32So good job for him.
25:34And good to see the Husqvarna team getting some of these top fives.
25:38And even Jorge Prada hanging in there.
25:41Yeah, he's hanging in there.
25:42I mean, as I said, it's very difficult.
25:44This is a win to me for him to be able to just keep that gap.
25:48You know, I know he wants to be farther and farther.
25:50But it was a lot better in that first moto.
25:52And he's showing that little bit of fight.
25:53So maybe he made some changes to the bike.
25:55That looked good.
25:59Let's go back to sixth, JT.
26:01Well, the 992 is going to be coming down that hill here in a second.
26:04And Valentin Guillaude, he has to be ecstatic with this sixth-place ride.
26:09He can look up and see the two-time MXGP champ in front of him.
26:12And guys, I don't think he's ever been this close this late in a moto to Jorge Prado and his life coming in here.
26:17So this is a great ride.
26:18And he, remember this, he moves forward.
26:21He passed through the likes of Schock and Barsha to get here.
26:23I cannot say enough about the effort from Yamaha here.
26:26Big career best in the brief career in America for Guillaude.
26:30He said he'd like to race SMX playoffs if he can get in.
26:33And scoring a lot of points like that, maybe he will.
26:35Then back to this journey of Justin Barsha.
26:38Is he ahead of Schock now?
26:40Yes, he is.
26:41Yeah, Guillaude can thank Barsha for keeping him up because he's got to stay on it.
26:47And now my brother has made his way around Cody Schock.
26:51Two lap riders all around them.
26:54Malcolm is, well, Malcolm in the middle with the lap riders there.
26:58And then Schock's going to follow in behind him on that blue Yamaha.
27:02There he is.
27:03Got blocked by another lapper.
27:04Hey, Malcolm's riding pretty well today.
27:06I know you're not easy to impress, especially when you're a little bro.
27:09How do you feel?
27:09All right?
27:09I'm actually really impressed because I know a lot more about what's going on than most.
27:15And he looks a lot more comfortable on the bike, and that's a good sign.
27:18This track's just difficult.
27:20And he's holding off the number three in Corolli there.
27:24So, Katie?
27:26Well, moving on down to the number three of Eli Tomek.
27:28Eli Tomek, Josh Ellings and his mechanic just put on the pit board, keep pushing.
27:33So, they're not giving him any indication that there's anything wrong.
27:36This is a bit of surprise to see Eli Tomek running in 10th.
27:39One thing to note about Eli Tomek, kind of mentioning what we did with Cody Schock.
27:43We think Eli Tomek has been to all these races, yes.
27:47And he knows these tracks he's even won here.
27:50But in talking to his team, you guys, we have to remember, he hasn't raced here since 2022.
27:54And there's been a whole lot of life, a couple of injuries, a little this and that that he's been working on since he's been here again.
28:01So, he does have to relearn some things.
28:03He's not just going out there running and gunning like we know the former Eli did.
28:07It's kind of a different Eli now at this point in 10th.
28:11I struggle with Eli at Tomek here.
28:14He's straight up not having a good time out there.
28:16I'm going to be straight, honest with you on that.
28:19I think something's up with Eli, whether he's battling energy, whether he's battling some sort of injury.
28:25There's something going on because less than a month ago, this guy was winning motos.
28:29And now he's a minute off the lead, maybe more.
28:33There's something going on with Eli Tomek.
28:35I can't put my finger on it, but this is not the Eli Tomek.
28:38Forget about years prior, this season that we saw.
28:43And he's looking to make a move on Schock, a mistake.
28:45Schock holds him off.
28:47Battle continues.
28:55So, JT, they're theorizing on Tomek.
28:58And this is the mind over matter thing as we go back to the leader, Lawrence.
29:01Do you think it's a physical thing, maybe, for Eli we just don't know about?
29:06Or, again, is it that mental, the frustration kicks in when you know you can win races and suddenly that's slipping away?
29:12Yeah.
29:12I mean, I don't know exactly 100% what's going on, Eli.
29:16Like, I'm not talking to him.
29:17This is speculation.
29:17But I can tell by the way he's rotting.
29:20And the reason I don't feel like it's physical is because of what you're watching right here.
29:24You know, we've seen him.
29:26Like, he's super strong.
29:27I mean, even at the race that he went down to at Hangtown when he was going up.
29:31But, like, it's not a conditioned thing.
29:34Eli's always been in shape.
29:36The way he has these bursts of speed tells me that it's not physical.
29:40But, again, I just go back to his body language.
29:44When he gets past, there's really not a lot of fight for.
29:47And it's not because he doesn't care or he doesn't try.
29:50He just wants to be battling for wins.
29:53If you would have told Eli, hey, you're going to come to this outdoor season,
29:56but you're going to be riding in ninth place, I guarantee he wouldn't have came.
29:59You know, he came out here thinking that, hey, there's going to be troubles.
30:03Like, yeah, I haven't raced in a while, but I feel like I'm good enough,
30:06the bike's good enough that I can compete to win.
30:08And as I get my feet under me, I'll be up here.
30:11Well, that's going the other way now.
30:12And then so you're just watching a rider deal with a situation that he's never been in.
30:18And it's a lot to deal with.
30:20So if you've never been at the top level and been where Eli is, it is hard to explain.
30:25And people just think it's him just not caring and giving up.
30:27But it's the opposite of that.
30:29Because he wants to win, it is just hard for a guy to go out there
30:32and just compete for a tenth place when he knows he has the talent and team to win these races.
30:37Hey, JT, I'll swing it back to you on Prado.
30:39That was the thing you kept telling us in the preseason.
30:41Jorge Prado, for example, similar to Eli Tomac, has never not been up front in his entire life.
30:48And that's really the same thing with Tomac.
30:50And you were saying that.
30:51You've got to understand Prado's situation.
30:52Yeah, there's something about learning how to lose.
30:56And I don't think anybody wants to learn how to lose.
30:59It's not ideal.
31:00But you have to be able to process it and mentally regroup and go back at it.
31:05And, you know, I agree with what James said about Eli.
31:07I don't know that it's physical.
31:08He looks strong on the motorcycle.
31:10But there's just a lack of fight here going on with him that I've never seen Eli Tomac have outside of a few weird races in his life.
31:18So, you know, to be honest with you, I would bet he doesn't exactly know what's going on right now.
31:24If he does, he's probably not talking about it.
31:27These guys are proud.
31:28Back to this.
31:29Shock now in a battle with Corolli on that Ducati.
31:33Corolli digging deep here.
31:35A battle for tenth.
31:37It's right where he wanted to be.
31:39Yeah.
31:46Jet Lawrence putting it together down the stretch.
31:50About 25 minutes of fire that he had to deal with from his brother and his teammate.
31:56But able to master it down in the final few.
31:59Yeah, and Jet's been one of the best riders since he's been in this 450 class.
32:05I mean, his whole career had adjusting.
32:07And we saw his teammate in the 250 class, Joe Shimoda, figuring out how to ride the motorcycle without a rear brake.
32:13Where Jet figured out how to ride around these issues of his bike.
32:17And it looks good.
32:19It's not like it's bad.
32:20But where he was in the level compared to Hunter, his bike was definitely struggling in front end.
32:26And Jet figured out.
32:27I saw his lines change.
32:28I saw how he was attacking the racetrack.
32:30And it just shows whoever can adjust the best can get it done.
32:34And Hunter had him on the ropes, but he let him off.
32:36Here's Tony Corolli making a move.
32:39We had this battle for 10th.
32:40Cody's shock on the inside, the 37.
32:45Corolli on the left on that Ducati.
32:48Gets up the inside of Cody right here.
32:51And this is Tony's first time coming to this racetrack.
32:58I was talking to him yesterday.
32:59And he was surprised how hard the track was.
33:02The hard base.
33:03And I was like, man, unfortunately, I think it's going to be like that tomorrow.
33:07So, you're going to have to, like, deal with it.
33:08But he did a good job after recovering, not going down hard that first moto, still fighting.
33:15Every lap on this Ducati is only going to help him and just get more knowledge on that.
33:19So, Tony and Netner are doing a good job.
33:22Taking the data.
33:23As for Jet, he holds on to win this overall tie.
33:27Ken Rockson, who's actually here today, the two-time champion in the series for career overall wins.
33:32And it will be 21 wins in 22 starts in 450 pro motocross for Jet.
33:39Can you say that stat again?
33:41Yeah, I need to because I don't know if he can believe it.
33:43So, if I say it twice, as they say, get two sources, go to print with it.
33:4721 out of 22 in his career.
33:50Yeah, that's unbelievable.
33:53When we got to 18 out of 19, I didn't even realize that it was that much.
33:57And the reason because of that, because everybody seemed like they were that close.
34:01Like, you know, look, man, yeah, every weekend we were talking.
34:05Oh, man, if he could just get a better start, they were there.
34:07And this guy was winning, but he was winning by these small margins.
34:10Well, now, that's changed.
34:12It's changed.
34:13And it's been ever since Southwick, he's looked like a whole different rider.
34:17And that confidence is growing.
34:18And I believe because of Southwick, because of last weekend,
34:21allows him to have the confidence to go to hold off his brother.
34:24Because Hunter was fast.
34:26Hunter was the best that he maybe ever looked on the 450.
34:29But Jet was able to ride around and overcome the difficulties that he was having on a motorcycle
34:35and get another victory.
34:37And it's going to be demoralizing for all these guys outside of Hunter Lawrence
34:42because he'll be happy for them.
34:43But it's a big win for the 18 and the Honda.
34:45And it just shows you how much work they put in.
34:48It's showing on the racetrack.
34:50It just keeps getting better.
34:51Heard him on the JVAC show this week.
34:53Talk about he reads a book, 20 minutes of reading every morning.
34:57That's something he learned.
34:59Feels like it puts his mind in the right space to get his words and his thoughts organized
35:03and just always taking little steps to try to improve.
35:07Or you're going to show up at the riders meeting.
35:09You're going to see all these riders with books in their hands.
35:10Dude, is that guy out?
35:12Give me that book.
35:13I want it.
35:16Yeah.
35:17Yeah.
35:17Raise the price on that one.
35:19Because it's valuable.
35:20Helps you make money.
35:21Like this, the big bonus is.
35:23Probably about $100,000 for the win from Honda.
35:26And still undefeated overall this year.
35:30Jet Lawrence wins Spring Creek.
35:32And Hunter gave it everything he had.
35:39Second again.
35:41Four in a row.
35:43Good route by Hunter Lawrence.
35:44Oh, yeah.
35:45Yeah.
35:46Jake Sexton, he'd go back to work.
35:49Next week should be a little bit better for him and the bike.
35:52You know how difficult Washougal is.
35:54There's a whole different racetrack.
35:55And they're going to have to figure some things out.
35:59I do feel like Sexton a little more aggressive at the beginning of the moto.
36:01That was the goal.
36:02And it was a better beginning.
36:04Yeah.
36:04No, he's a little bit more aggressive.
36:05But he knows, like, he's just not there to go to carry that intensity.
36:09Whether it's him, bike, they're just not on that level right now.
36:13So did a good job at getting third place.
36:17But Chase knows he's got to work on some things.
36:19That gap's a lot closer than that 42 seconds that we're watching.
36:23And there it is.
36:23Last year's champ across the line.
36:25Second race back with the third overall.
36:27Yep.
36:28Jet, runner, and Chase.
36:30One, two, three, end of the moto.
36:33End of the moto.
