00:00Third main event win, and this is part of one piece of that puzzle.
00:04450, heat two, let's go!
00:09Plessinger on the inside, Shane McElrath gets one of his trademark lightning starts,
00:14but it's the Cowboy! Listen to the crowd!
00:18They love seeing Plessinger out in front!
00:20Oh, I absolutely love it, to see the seven out front.
00:25We just talked about it, highlighting how well he's been doing,
00:29then he comes firing with an incredible hole shot.
00:35The rider from Hamilton, Ohio, realistically not that far away.
00:39This is kind of like a second home event for him.
00:43Justin Cooper runs second. Sexton battling McElrath, the third.
00:48Look at Sexton through the whoops, getting a good drive.
00:52Two for one! How do you like that?
00:56Love it. Turns down early, gets underneath Savace, gets into the whoops fast,
01:01gets a great drive.
01:03Now he can set his sights on his teammate.
01:06It's going to be tough to do.
01:09He's got plenty of speed.
01:13Pardon me, I think I said McElrath before, where it was Joey.
01:16Joey off to a great start.
01:18I misspoke.
01:18So, it's the KTM teammates, one and two.
01:25And there's been a couple of points of frustration for Aaron Plessing over the last couple of weeks.
01:29However, to see him back on the podium last weekend in East Rutherford was fantastic.
01:33Let's see what Sexton can do here, up against his teammate.
01:36Well, you think about Philly.
01:39Oh, yeah.
01:39He went down.
01:40He went down in the first corner, had a good comeback.
01:43And last week, he had to play catch-up as well.
01:45So, yeah, that's where the frustration is from.
01:48Justin Cooper putting in a good fight here.
01:51What do you make so far?
01:55We've seen three races tonight.
01:58What do you make of the track early on?
02:00Well, I think, well, for sure, I look at it and it's loose.
02:02And the first thing that I think of is just how that might play into the KTM brand and how it works.
02:09It's kind of hard underneath that as well.
02:12And we know that with that steel chassis, being able to flex a little bit more and just in nature being softer,
02:18you just have to think that's going to help these guys and give them a small advantage.
02:23Sometimes that's all you need at this level.
02:25Look at that run.
02:26Oh, my goodness.
02:28We posed the question earlier, what can Sexton do up against his teammate?
02:32Two different options.
02:34Two different lines.
02:36Plessing, it keeps the lead, but Sexton's making ground.
02:41Yeah, you gain so much time when you go to the inside early,
02:44but you lose so much on the exit part because that last corner is so far out there.
02:51You know, no man's land.
02:54I think where that inside-outside option would work would be early on in the race
03:00when everything gets jammed up and congested if you go outside inside first.
03:07Oh, it's confusing.
03:08And when the riders first took to the track earlier today because of the rain, the recent rain,
03:15the track was kind of a 50-50 deal because the track was covered.
03:18There was a dry portion.
03:19There was a wet portion of the track.
03:21There's good consistency now, and there's good speed from Justin Cooper.
03:26Here comes the Monster Energy Star Yamaha racer.
03:28He's working on Sexton.
03:29He's by Sexton.
03:31What a move by the 32.
03:34That was a power move.
03:36Slingshots out of the corner on the split lane.
03:39Dives to the inside.
03:41Takes Chase Sexton's line away.
03:44This guy is rolling.
03:46Will.
03:47Ricky, what we're seeing is absolutely no accident.
03:51Talking to Justin Cooper earlier, he was ready to go tonight.
03:54He said, look, at this point, I have absolutely nothing to lose.
03:58Those podiums that Lee Diffitt was talking about earlier there, he's like,
04:02a lot of them could have, sorry, a lot of the fourths could have been podiums if I just executed,
04:07if I just had a little bit more time.
04:09He's like, tonight, we're ready to do that.
04:10I'm back to feeling healthy, and I'm ready to go for it.
04:14He is rolling.
04:14What's crazy is Sexton is gone.
04:18Yeah.
04:19I mean, they have put some serious time on him.
04:21I wasn't expecting that.
04:24Hey, that move deserves the Insta360 replay.
04:28Let's have a look at it.
04:29That was a really fun pass to watch.
04:32Check out what happens.
04:34So he's going to go to the inside.
04:35Justin Cooper is.
04:37And watch when he slingshots off of this corner.
04:40Gets a massive drive.
04:42Breaks hard.
04:43Goes right to the inside.
04:45Fades to the outside, JT.
04:47Yeah, watching Justin Cooper.
04:48He's been trying different methods through the whoops.
04:50Originally, he was going 3-3-3.
04:53But this lap, you see him trying to go for AP in the same line.
04:57Now, what he had been trying to do was.
04:59It's going to work.
05:02He's there, JT.
05:04He did it on one teammate.
05:05He did it on the other.
05:06JT, that was some 2005 Atlanta Supercross back in the day right there.
05:12Yeah, and guys, watch him next lap around.
05:14He has figured out this 2-3-4 in the whoops.
05:17And nobody else has done all dance.
05:19He's been blitzed or 3-3-3.
05:21And Justin Cooper has innovated that line.
05:23And it has made all the difference thus far.
05:24Well, that too, and you're watching.
05:26He has a lot of intensity.
05:28Will, what you got?
05:29I just want to highlight what we've got going on right now.
05:31Justin Cooper can carry this kind of performance in into the main tonight.
05:36Those scenarios that we talked about for the championship,
05:39going one and two with Chase Exxon and Cooper Wade.
05:41If he gets a win tonight, that could be a complete spoiler for Chase Exxon.
05:45Because, as you guys said earlier, he has to win out.
05:48Well, from what we've seen so far tonight,
05:50can we come back to Pittsburgh every year?
05:52This has been awesome.
05:54Yeah, this crowd is absolutely electric.
05:58What we thought was going to be a rainout,
06:01and this track was going to be ruined by the rain,
06:04that is not the case.
06:06And we've got a great racetrack here.
06:08A lot of elements about this racetrack that is challenging.
06:13It's going to be a lot of fun to watch, especially in the main event.
06:19White flag out, one to go.
06:20Behind Cooper and the two KTM teammates,
06:24Malcolm Stewart, who's had good speed today, runs fourth.
06:27Then the quadlock Honda teammates,
06:29Joey Savace and Shane McElrath.
06:30Benny Bloss will go through to the main.
06:32Mitchell Harrison, Kate Clayson,
06:34holds onto that ninth and final transfer position on the final lap.
06:38I know this doesn't come at us as a surprise,
06:42but Justin Cooper is the fastest guy through the fourth time sector,
06:48and that is the split lane.
06:50Dude is rolling through there.
06:54Section four, left-hand side of your screen.
06:57There you go.
06:58Sweeper section.
06:59There's your fastest times.
07:00Not far off half a second.
07:03That's significant.
07:03That's a supercross.
07:05He's had one career heat win.
07:08Now he has two.
07:09Justin Cooper does it here in Pittsburgh.
07:12And he beats one of the title contenders,
07:15beats both Red Bull KTM teammates.
07:18Wow, this is weird.
07:19I wasn't expecting that from the four.
