00:00Heart rate's up, revs up, gates down.
00:12Shed Lawrence, another good start.
00:13There's Aaron Plesinger, and guess who's with him?
00:17Hunter Lawrence right there.
00:18It's a one-two for the Hondas again.
00:20No surprise.
00:21I thought Chase Exxon was a little bit farther up,
00:24but the problem is, just like they do at home,
00:27these boys, they get out front, and, man,
00:28they bend deadly when they do that, a tandem.
00:33Prado, I believe, fourth.
00:36Fifth hole shot of the year for the 18.
00:39There is Prado in that fourth-place spot.
00:41Now they put a little bit of water down to keep some of this dust,
00:44and because this track is hard.
00:46Oh, no!
00:47Shed goes down very similar to last moto at Redwood.
00:50As I was just saying, the guy's going to have to be very careful
00:54and really towards Chase Exxon.
00:56It's going to be hard to be able to push up,
00:57but a huge mistake by Jett Lawrence.
01:00Actually, a simple mistake, but costly.
01:02The last time he was here, he was in this position last weekend,
01:04so he should have felt pretty confident,
01:06but this is a whole different day,
01:07and because the track is drier faster, it's not that hot,
01:11these guys are going to be very intense in the first part of his race.
01:14That's Bryce Shelley in 14th place.
01:16So Jett is 15th, first to 15th, just like that.
01:25Right about where he was a week ago, he was able to still win that moto.
01:29Yeah, you can see they put that water down, and it's going to be slippery,
01:34and I was just mentioning that, then he loses the front end,
01:37so Jett's got to be careful as well.
01:39I mean, the track's still going to be slippery.
01:40He's going to have to take a couple laps,
01:41and it's an easy mistake to happen,
01:44but costly one, and one that we usually don't see by the 18,
01:48especially when he's out front.
01:49Honestly, it was very similar to last week.
01:51No, the difference was last week was a left-hander.
01:54This one was a right.
01:55There's Eli Tomac.
01:57Again, the Yamahas are white this week,
01:59and the 70th anniversary colors right behind Prado.
02:03So not only did Sexton get a reprieve here,
02:07several others that would like to upset Jett Lawrence.
02:10Tomac, Prado, Hunter Lawrence, Plessinger,
02:14pretty much all the fast guys, Hampshire, are up front.
02:17Yeah, you can see Jorge losing the rear end right there,
02:20and it just showed you how slippery this racetrack is,
02:22and especially coming into this section
02:23where we saw Seth Handmaker go down in that 250 class.
02:26But the only difference between now, this year, and last year,
02:29last weekend for Jett,
02:31all the guys were still behind him once he got back up.
02:34Eli had a bad start.
02:35This time they are in front of him.
02:37But, yeah, you can see him going through these sand rollers.
02:39Looks like he decides to go on the outside right here.
02:41Goes in between those jumps,
02:42and he just loses the front end right there.
02:45Simple fall, but...
02:47costly one, and this is Tony Corolli getting caught up.
02:50This is what happens when you don't get a good start.
02:52Gets bunched up.
02:53Looks like he's got a little help there,
02:56and, yeah, everybody's trying to funnel for that one line.
03:00You hate to see that.
03:01Corolli getting the Ducati on the track
03:03in pro motocross for the first time,
03:05the nine-time MXGP champion JT.
03:08You see Marshall Welton there turn around.
03:10Somebody was stuck underneath their motorcycle there.
03:12Marshall Welton actually did a U-turn,
03:14went back to try to lift the motorcycle off of somebody.
03:17So you'll have to see that type of sportsmanship amongst these guys in the middle of the race.
03:20Yeah, it's good.
03:21Yeah, go ahead, Jay.
03:21Yeah, I believe that was Tony right there that was stuck under the bike.
03:24So I was wondering, did something happen?
03:26Because he was down there a long time.
03:28So, yes, good sportsmanship.
03:30But now Eli Tomac, seeing that Jet Lawrence going down,
03:34I don't know if he was able to get around Chase Sexton,
03:38but Eli's starting to move forward.
03:39And this is what we want to see.
03:40We know how this guy is.
03:41He gets that motivation and the excitement.
03:44Man, you see him running these outside.
03:47It's good to see that happens for number three, JT.
03:51Yeah, Eli Tomac looks fantastic here,
03:53and you just want to see that intensity that's been missing the last couple of rounds.
03:57He gets around Jorge Prado here.
03:59He needs to get to the rear of Hunter Lawrence.
04:01You don't want anything to disrupt the forward movement
04:04that we have not seen the last couple of rounds.
04:06Yeah, and those last couple of rounds, JT,
04:08a lot of that has to do with that engine,
04:09the conversation that we were having at Red Bud last week,
04:11what was going on with it.
04:13I talked to the team, and they said, actually, the engine just got hot.
04:16They went through a lot of fuel.
04:17They changed the engine for all three of those Yamahas on that last weekend
04:22just to make sure to safeguard everything.
04:24But you guys know this.
04:25Eli has been known to get the bike really high.
04:27He uses the clutch a lot.
04:28And so that was something that the team was keeping an eye on,
04:31especially under these really hot conditions.
04:34Thank you, Katie.
04:35Now the number one of Sexton putting the press on Prado.
04:40Yeah, Chase wanted to go up the inside.
04:42And talking to Chase this weekend,
04:43he said his thing for his goal is not to get ahead of himself.
04:46So what we're seeing is exactly what he told me.
04:50He's not going to try to push it.
04:52He doesn't want to go down.
04:53He knows he's out of the championship.
04:54He wants to build.
04:56And he can't beat Jett if he's on the ground.
04:58But that being said, it's going to take him a little bit longer to get going.
05:02And right now, he's starting to lose that time to Eli Tomac,
05:04and Jett Lawrence is catching him up as well.
05:06So Sexton almost went down,
05:09but still is going to try to make the pass on the downhill.
05:12Not enough.
05:14Yeah, and what you can't see on the camera angle,
05:16that actually corner goes back where he almost went down.
05:18They actually start going back towards the start.
05:20So it looked like Chase could just drop down straight,
05:23but they're turning still.
05:24So that's why he wasn't able to get it.
05:25And Lawrence has made up a ton of ground.
05:29Now, bottom box, you can see Sexton, Hampshire, Prado are right in front of him.
05:35Yeah, I mean, I understand what Chase is doing.
05:38You know, it's smart, especially when you're not in a title.
05:41But you're making it difficult because you see Eli Tomac,
05:44he knows that sense of urgency.
05:46He doesn't want to see that 18.
05:47Now Chase makes the pass, but the damage is done.
05:50He's got to run down Eli Tomac.
05:51Hunter Lawrence is ahead of him, 6 seconds.
05:53And Jett Lawrence is only 2 seconds behind him, a few seconds.
05:56And Prado gave Sexton all he could handle, trying to get him back.
06:00Couldn't get it done.
06:01There's Hampshire.
06:02There is Jett Lawrence.
06:03And Hampshire shoots by.
06:05It's frustrating for Jorge.
06:08You know, these guys are starting to go.
06:10Good start, and things are happening really quick.
06:12Now, I believe if I'm Jett Lawrence and knowing how good Chase Sexton is,
06:16I'm worried about my brother, of course, being out front.
06:19And, of course, with Eli Tomac, we know how he is.
06:21But I think the real person that I'd be worried about is Chase Sexton.
06:24So to be able to close in and see him in front of me,
06:27I still feel pretty calm at what this race is.
06:29If I can get him, then I know I can continue moving forward.
06:31But I don't want to see that number one out front.
06:34He's going to make short work of Jorge right here.
06:36And he does.
06:40Lawrence looks over, makes the pass.
06:43So Lawrence is now up to seven.
06:46Katie.
06:47At the number 18, I was talking to the team about it,
06:50Christian Gucharme, his mechanic,
06:52and I was asking about when he goes down, how different of a rider is he.
06:55And Christian was saying they have seen such a difference in him as a rider
06:58within these last two years.
07:00In former years when Jett would go down and had to play catch-up,
07:02he'd go more into, like, the panic mode style.
07:05Now his head's on a lot straighter.
07:07He's been working on his mental strength.
07:09And you can see that in his riding.
07:10He's more cool, calm, and collected.
07:12And he's riding his own race.
07:16Well, you talked about that last week, James,
07:17not turning one mistake into two.
07:20Yeah, and it comes with age.
07:21I mean, even the year, the last year of the 250 class,
07:24we saw that same thing happen to Jett.
07:27And it was one of those situations where kind of what we saw with Hayden Deegan
07:30last week, we were shocked because he normally doesn't do that.
07:33But, you know, I think when you just win everything,
07:36you know eventually if it keeps happening,
07:38you're eventually going to get up there.
07:39So you've got to be up, JT.
07:41Yeah, and I think it just comes down to just trusting the map.
07:45You know if you can turn in your best laps,
07:46you know what you're capable of, and you have, what, I don't know,
07:4913, 14 laps to work with if you're crashing the first lap.
07:52Just do the math.
07:53If you're, you know, 20 seconds down, it's doable when Jett's flat out.
07:58And he was only down maybe 12.
08:00So he's got a long way to go to catch his brother.
08:02He's only made up a second or two big picture.
08:05But I think for Jett, staying calm is just learning to trust
08:08what he's truly capable of.
08:10Yeah, and JT, that's a great point.
08:12And I know when I was racing, when I was in this position,
08:15and you'll see Jett do this, and a lot of the guys,
08:17when they're moving forward, they'll look up.
08:19You know, they'll hit the jump.
08:20They'll just look ahead.
08:21And he's not looking at Chase Sexton or RJ.
08:24He's looking at where Hunter is, and that allows him to trust that map,
08:28you know, that eventually he'll get here.
08:29Because I believe if he was losing time to Hunter, then, yeah,
08:32he might be in more of a desperation.
08:34But he's checking the map, seeing where Hunter is.
08:36If he's not losing that time, then just trust the process.
08:39You'll get there.
08:40Tomac now closing on Plessinger.
08:43Tomac is still the only rider this year to have won a moto besides Jett Lawrence.
08:47As for Plessinger, had that illness last week.
08:50He was catching Hunter and Jett.
08:52And then he told me he put in two good laps.
08:55He got to them.
08:55And then all of a sudden, his energy was just gone.
08:58He was actually running a fever.
08:59Couldn't even race moto two.
09:00He said he thinks he'll be better today.
09:04But hard to really know until you're pushing it in the motos.
09:07Yeah, but I can look at Aaron's body position right there.
09:09You can tell him when he went down that hill, something's not right.
09:12I mean, even when he was hitting those bumps, I saw his body collapsing.
09:15So I don't know if he's tight or maybe that illness is not there.
09:18But that's not the Aaron Plessinger that we normally see.
09:21He's holding on at the moment.
09:23Uh-oh.
09:24So Tomac is by.
09:25Here comes Sexton.
09:27And Jett Lawrence is on Sexton's rear fender.
09:30Yeah, Jett Sexton's going to get around Aaron if he doesn't figure it out.
09:39We're hearing it's Jett made up a second just in the whoops alone last time around.
09:44Sexton's got traffic up both sides.
09:47Yeah, it's a good position to be where Jett, because you're closing in on the number one.
09:50Jett is letting his race come to him.
09:52Aaron's.
09:53Look at this.
09:53Two for one.
09:54Bogo special.
09:56Jett Lawrence are out both KTNs.
09:59Yeah, that was a, that's tough for Chase, because where Aaron was, Aaron was kind of
10:04fading back, like I was saying, and he popped out of that rut and pushed his teammate out.
10:08Jett snuck around, but that's just heads up rotting.
10:10He just knows what was going to happen before it happened, and he was able to go.
10:14Now you're going to watch him try to pull away, and I think he's going to do the same
10:18thing to Eli and then try to go after his brother.
10:23Nine seconds.
10:24He'll have to make up to get to the lead.
10:25Here's the double pass.
10:26Now what's happening, he scrubs right here.
10:28Now Chase is in a weird spot.
10:30He goes on the outside.
10:31Now watch what happened to Aaron.
10:32Aaron's just going to fade out, makes a little mistake.
10:34Chase should have went towards the inside.
10:36He should have known better, but that's Bogo lightning spell.
10:39It was prime day.
10:40Well, it's still prime day for Jett Lawrence, because you find out all the specials getting
10:43around this guy, and if Beast Mode don't catch up, he's going to happen to him as well.
10:48Sexton trying to hang with it.
10:50And here's the attack from Lawrence on towback.
10:53Now we saw this same scenario happen last weekend when Jett Lawrence went around Chase, kind
11:00of the same faction, really blew around him.
11:03Chase picked up the pace.
11:05I'm sure he probably realized that I don't want to have to deal with this, and he was
11:07able to stay with Jett.
11:08Oh, look at this.
11:09Oh, Lawrence had so much speed.
11:11He almost went down.
11:13Yeah, that was the respect out of Eli.
11:15He wanted to go in, and he wasn't really sure if Eli saw him, and he kind of backed up
11:19and almost went down himself, but he still makes the pass.
11:24It's unbelievable.
11:27And you want to know how good a pace Hunter Lawrence is running.
11:30Jett Lawrence is catching and passing all these guys, and even though he's not losing
11:34time, he's not gaining on his brother out front, and it's still about nine seconds.
11:37Boy, thanks, Jett.
11:38Just cut that to an eight now.
11:40Yeah, yeah.
11:40And Sexton now attacking Tomek for second and third.
11:44There's the leader.
11:45Hunter Lawrence hasn't won a moto since Bud's Creek last year.
11:49Now, where Hunter is, it's a tough spot to be at because you know Jett is coming, and
11:55he has that pace, and it's going to be hard for Hunter to really pick up the pace because
12:00Jett's found the flow, so either Hunter's pace is good enough, or he's going to be having
12:05a hard time trying to pick it up when you have no one to chase, and you know the 18 is
12:08coming.
12:12Tomek and Sexton.
12:14Third and fourth.
12:15What can you say about this charge?
12:19Two motos in a row from Jett, but still a long way to go.
12:23Still has nearly 10 seconds to make up on Hunter.
12:26Hunter riding very well out front.
12:29And you've got to wonder how Eli feels about this because unlike Chase at this moment, Eli
12:35was fighting for this title.
12:37It's got to be demoralizing, especially after that, and you can kind of see it in his body
12:40language, what he saw, how he was when he passed Aaron.
12:43This is not what you'd expect from Eli Tomek.
12:46He is backed up way down, and Sexton goes by with ease.
12:49Yeah.
12:49You've got to believe that's all just mentally.
12:51It is hard for him to be in this spot because it's still too early to have any issues.
12:55I think this is a combination of what happened over the last few weeks, JT.
12:58I agree with you 100%, James.
13:01I echo that wholeheartedly.
13:03You think about both of these guys.
13:04You know, Sexton's dealing with a little bit better.
13:06He makes the pass, but for both of them, they felt like they were moving forward.
13:09They felt like they were trying to go chase down Hunter Lawrence, who's gotten away.
13:12And then Jett Lawrence comes out of nowhere and is absolutely checked out on this pack.
13:17They surely saw him on the ground in that first lap.
13:19You could see somebody you saw on the ground 10 minutes before, blow past you and check out.
13:23It's really hard to wrap your head around.
13:25Yeah, it is.
13:28And like you said, they saw him go down, and they saw what he did last weekend.
13:32So it is really frustrating.
13:35I think the only thing for Chase Sexton, like his whole mindset, again, as I mentioned earlier,
13:39he's trying to just let things come to him and not rushing it.
13:43So in his mind, he's probably trying to keep himself from chasing Jett in order of maybe making a mistake.
13:49I know it's going to be hard, but it's a little bit different where Eli Tomac.
13:52You saw when Jett went down how aggressive Eli was.
13:55This is a whole different router right now.
13:57It's just frustrating for him.
13:58If he doesn't watch out, the number 24, it's going to get around him as well.
14:02RJ Hampshire really putting it together piece by piece, week by week, on this 450 in his first summer on this bike.
14:11And he got the podium in the first moto last week going after Tomac right now.
14:15There's an update on the Riders wearing the Oakleys at Sexton 3rd, Tomac 4th, Hampshire 5th.
14:21So it's battle right now.
14:22And then just behind them, you also have Plessinger and Cooper, 6th and 7th.
14:27Justin Cooper again at that big crash in practice.
14:30And, by the way, Cooper Webb, not here today, tore his meniscus.
14:35I know he's back home watching.
14:37And if Justin Cooper can finish in this 7th place spot, looking at a near tie for the point lead in the SMX standings.
14:45That's combining motocross and supercross together.
14:48Cooper Webb the leader right now, but out.
14:50Justin Cooper is ranked second.
14:52Yeah, if RJ can get up a little bit closer to Eli, I don't think Eli would fight him.
14:59You know, Eli's still a champion, and he's still fast.
15:02So RJ is making a few mistakes as his track, as all these guys are.
15:05But I don't think if he gets to them, he'll be able to get around them because Eli's not happy right now.
15:10He's not out here to ride around in fourth place.
15:12He's trying to win.
15:13So I don't think he would fight RJ as much as RJ wants that position.
15:17Eli doesn't really care about that if he can't win the race.
15:19All right, past the 15-minute mark, halfway through.
15:24Reminder, Monster Energy available at Quick Trip.
15:27As Hampshire trying to keep Tomac in sight, look for passing room.
15:34And again, up front, Hunter Lawrence matching the pace of his brother.
15:40Jet still 9 seconds down.
15:42Yeah, and then the fastest rider on the track was Chase Sexton.
15:45You know, just only a few hundredths of a second over Jet Lawrence.
15:50They both was in the 57s, and Hunter was in the last lap 57 as well.
15:54But Chase has figured out that pace.
15:57Katie?
15:58Yeah, we know that Hunter is looking for that illustrious overall win in the 450 class.
16:03They made some shock changes in between practices today and actually made another shock change here before Moto 1.
16:08They said they definitely swung a little too hard of the first go-around, so they're trying to level the bike back out and make him more comfortable.
16:15It obviously looks like it's paying off for him.
16:17You know, this is one of those times that Hunter Lawrence, his tenacity mixed with his calm, cool, collective self, the guy that kind of everybody looks up to, this is where it's paying off.
16:28And there's a lot of people out here crossing fingers.
16:30He finally is going to take home that first overall.
16:31Yeah, thanks, Katie.
16:33As you watch Hampshire attacking Tomek again.
16:36Oh, Hampshire's up the inside.
16:37Not quite enough.
16:40I was going to mention last week when Jet went down, Hunter was asked about that, and Hampshire just made the pass again.
16:46Yeah, as I was just saying, I don't think Eli would fight him once he got up there.
16:51But you can tell how difficult this track is getting, especially entering the sand rollers.
16:56I like the Hunter line just being a little bit slower going to the inside.
16:58Not that it was faster, but it was safer, and you can see RJ made a mistake that last lap, and all these guys are, because the base is so hard.
17:05They're sliding into it.
17:07Good ride by RJ.
17:09Yeah, I thought he had the pass, and he didn't.
17:10I didn't think he'd get it right back, but he did.
17:13So Hampshire really becoming a player now after that moto podium last week.
17:18Starts have improved.
17:20Said he had a bad habit he had developed with the start map of the bike where he was gassing it.
17:24The bike with the start map, you can explain what that is.
17:28Doesn't want you to do that.
17:29It's said to be a perfect RPM.
17:30He was trying to override that, and it was messing up his starts.
17:34Clearly, he's got that fixed.
17:35He's been better the last two weeks, and now you're seeing the result.
17:39Yeah, no, I know exactly, because when I was racing, I had the same thing, and I actually wouldn't run it,
17:44because I like to be able to adjust the way the bike sounds and more RPM depending on the track sole and all that.
17:50So, yeah, if you're not used to riding it, it can affect you, and it's set up to do one thing,
17:56and that's what that bike's going to do.
17:57So if you don't allow it, it can mess your starts up.
18:00Yep.
18:00We've got Cody Schock back here on the 37, the Muckoff Club of X FXR Yamaha.
18:08Schock's been right around that top 10 with a couple of hole shots this year.
18:11We asked him about his goals back half of the season.
18:13Yes, absolutely.
18:17For me, I'd like to try to score more top 10s, just keep adding that to my career,
18:23and just keep climbing the ladder.
18:25And as long as I'm having fun, throwing whips, and just being Cody, I don't see why that would be an issue.
18:31So we've just got to finish the races.
18:34That's pretty crucial.
18:35As we can see, last weekend at Red Bud, it was a lot on a lot of the teams,
18:41and unfortunately, we were one of them for the second moto,
18:45so scoring no points second moto definitely hurt a little bit,
18:49but that's why we do this thing called racing.
18:51We've got to accept the lows and accept the highs and just keep moving forward.
18:57Well, he's doing that, James.
18:57He's caught Plexinger.
18:59He's dropped way off the pace, and then ahead of them is this battle.
19:02That's your boy, Malcolm Stewart, Barsha, and then Prado.
19:06Yeah, well, you need to get that fishing pole and throw a hook.
19:09Hook around him, you know.
19:11They ride together, so you know how difficult Justin is.
19:16Oh, he's not easy to pass.
19:17Yeah.
19:18But of all the people.
19:20Left to right, right to left.
19:22You don't want to wake up the beast out here.
19:25There are certain people you ain't about that life,
19:27and Justin, he ain't about that life with my brother.
19:30He's too big for that.
19:32No, they've had their run-ins for sure.
19:33Right now, they've been cool.
19:34Now they're riding and trading together.
19:36Malcolm makes the pass on that rock star, Husqvarna.
19:38That's the rock star, Gaskos, for Barsha.
19:41And I was talking to Barsha this morning.
19:43I say, hey, coming back from a knee injury,
19:45I feel like you're doing really well.
19:47And he had to tell himself that.
19:49He said he put too much pressure on himself at Southwick in the comeback.
19:53And he's had to step back and remind himself, just build every week.
19:57He knows where he wants to be.
19:58He's got goals.
20:00Trying to let it come to him here on the 51.
20:02Yeah, I mean, anytime you go to a place where you have success at,
20:05no matter if you're coming off injury, you want to get out there and have it.
20:08So, yeah, Justin had to tell himself that.
20:11You can see my brother losing the rear end.
20:13You know, talking to him, I know they've been working on the bike a lot this year.
20:17So this was another week of that.
20:20So they're still trying to figure it out, and hopefully they continue to do it.
20:23That was a nice scrub right there.
20:25But that scrub right there was more of a frustration scrub, I can tell you.
20:28Look good on TV, bro.
20:37You're the only one qualified to give us judgment on scrubs and the interpretation of the scrubs.
20:42Hey, we mentioned SMX playoffs coming up.
20:44The Fan Fest is awesome.
20:46You get the cap, trackside, and a fan experience.
20:49Probably the most unique opportunities in all sports.
20:52To learn more, go to smxexperiences.com and get inside and be part of the action.
20:58Those are actual fans right there near the podium at those SMX rounds.
21:02Wow, Jorge Prado, they're catching him in a hurry, and now Plessinger is out.
21:06I've got to imagine that's the illness right there.
21:08Yeah, that's the illness, and we saw that happen early in the race.
21:11It said the way his body position was.
21:14But to give my brother a shout-out, he has the best line to enter in that whoop section than anyone,
21:18and that's why he was able to catch on Jorge Prado.
21:21What he's doing is just going outside, banking off that corner, and is shooting across that hard pack.
21:27So Malcolm's really got those rollers figured out.
21:31And that has drawn him up to Prado, who is in seventh.
21:34As for Plessinger, let's go back to Katie.
21:37Yeah, you guys can tell he's really hurting.
21:38And when he actually lined up before this moto, I had asked him how he was feeling.
21:42He's like, I'm here.
21:43I'm on the bike.
21:44We'll see how this goes.
21:45So they knew that he was on an uphill battle.
21:47So talking to Ann Harris, the team manager over there, he said, you've got to imagine this.
21:51He's one of the only guys in the top of the class with Justin Cooper that have really been out for almost every single race,
21:59even through Supercross here and outdoors.
22:01He's been putting week after week body through a whole lot of different things.
22:06And that, Stu, has to take a toll on the big picture of the body.
22:09There's not many of them who have successfully been out almost every single one of these race weekends in the last year or two.
22:15No, absolutely not.
22:17I mean, we hear every weekend, you know, God's getting sick.
22:20And Aaron has been out here.
22:22And the hard part is there's no time to recover.
22:25So it's like you're being sick, but you're working just as hard.
22:27The body is going to eventually break down.
22:29So I know Aaron.
22:31I know if he could, he would be out there.
22:33He's really struggling right now.
22:35So he's got to do the right thing and try to get healthy.
22:38And he's headed back to the pits.
22:42And Malcolm Stewart is headed around Jorge Prado.
22:45Malcolm getting the Jorge Prado experience.
22:47He is tough to pass.
22:49I'll just put it that way.
22:51Malcolm able to finally clear him.
22:53Yeah, well, he was going to clear him either way.
22:56Jorge realized you can have it.
22:58It looked like me and Trey Canard back in 2013.
23:01Sometimes you just got to realize, look, man, if you wanted that bad, it's all you.
23:05My brother did, so looking good.
23:08But you can see how much time he was able to make up on Jorge entered that whoop section.
23:12And as quickly as he's there, he's gone.
23:16Yeah, he's riding well.
23:17Yeah, yeah, and all that.
23:19So he's figuring out these lines.
23:20So really good, JT.
23:24Well, Malcolm does look good, but you can just see how frustrated Jorge Prado is.
23:27As soon as Malcolm went by, he completely let up.
23:31You can just see his body language.
23:32I would not be shocked if Justin Barsha passes him in the next corner or two.
23:35It has completely come apart for here for Prado.
23:39Yeah, there's Barsha challenging him.
23:41It's kind of an alarming trend.
23:42Remember, Prado led quite a bit of the previous moto in this championship last week at Redwood.
23:47But then he faded back.
23:49And kind of the same thing happening now as Barsha revs it to let him know he's there.
23:55This will be a fun little tangle.
23:56Let's see what happens here.
23:57But, yeah, just a little bit.
23:59Jorge's doing the same thing as Eli.
24:03What?
24:05I told you it'd be fun to watch.
24:07He relapsed.
24:07He's going out.
24:08But, no, that's Barsha making a Barsha pass.
24:11Clean pass.
24:12He wanted to just make sure Jorge wasn't going to be able to cut back underneath him.
24:15That's all that was.
24:16Oh, one of the tougher riders to pass versus one of the more aggressive passers.
24:22And that's what you get.
24:24Prado and Barsha.
24:27Oh, it's Cornelius Pondel.
24:28Going to check in with him.
24:29He is getting a little bit of help from Honda.
24:32Rider out of Norway visiting.
24:34And also the Swiss native Valentin Guillo.
24:37Great to see him.
24:38He's really been fun to have in America full time for the first time this summer.
24:43Hangs around the pits pretty late after the race.
24:44He's just taking it all in.
24:46So, Tondel and Guillo certainly probably know each other from a lot of racing over in Europe.
24:53And having fun here in America this summer.
24:55Yeah.
24:55And, you know, they're just like Jorge and Tony Corolli when he's here.
24:59There's those inner battles.
25:00Kind of like a teammate battle.
25:02You just don't want to get beat by the guy.
25:04And these guys, they want to beat each other.
25:05So, really cool to watch.
25:06And there's always something to race for.
25:08That's what I love about this new playoff system.
25:10There's always points to race because they know how important that is once you get down to Vegas.
25:14If you can make it there and get those points, how big a life-changing it could be.
25:19So, always incentives.
25:21Yeah, Guillo has said if he qualifies for SMX, he will race it.
25:24And you can pile up a lot of points doing what he's doing.
25:27He's always around that 10 to 15 spot every moto.
25:32And starting to move up the ranks.
25:34A little bit of help.
25:35Rock River Yamaha team carrying his bike around.
25:38And look at how many riders and how many countries are represented in the field today.
25:42That's wild.
25:43Yeah, look how much time he was able to gain as well once he made that path.
25:50So, good stuff for these guys.
25:52And, you know, looking at the lead right now, I was looking at Jet Lawrence kind of cheating, looking at the times.
25:57And there was a point in this race where he was starting to close in on Hunter.
26:01And just when we talked about Joe Shimoda and Hayden Deegan, Hunter picked up that pace.
26:06And Jet eventually just said, you know what, I'm just going to take second.
26:09And it was all within a couple laps.
26:11Because if Hunter would have not, Jet would have been in this race.
26:14So, how quickly things can change on here and how quickly, like, these lap times, they matter.
26:20Hunter Lawrence has been riding really good.
26:21And he made Jet Lawrence decide to take second.
26:24JT.
26:25Yeah, I'm just going to go ahead and say it.
26:27This is the best I've ever seen Hunter Lawrence riding.
26:29He withstood the charge that Jet Lawrence is putting in, as Jay mentioned.
26:33He got the lead down to six seconds.
26:36And Hunter picked the pace back up, got back into the 158.
26:39And think about this.
26:40He's put almost 19 seconds in the section.
26:43He's put over 40 seconds in the toe match.
26:47He's obviously not having a good moto.
26:48But regardless of what he's done to Jet, he has absolutely decimated the rest of this field.
26:54Thanks, JT.
26:54I'm going to go back to the story I was going to tell earlier.
26:56KD mentioned that calm demeanor that he has.
26:59So he's still waiting to get that first ever overall win on a 450.
27:03Last week, Jet goes down early.
27:05You think that opens the door.
27:07Hunter was asked in the press conference, what was your reaction when he saw Jet in the ground?
27:10And he's like, nothing.
27:12I just thought, oh, Jet's down.
27:14Didn't at least elude to being overly excited.
27:18This is my chance.
27:19He has eradicated all that.
27:21It is just full focus on myself and my riding and my motorcycle and not the circumstances all the time.
27:28At least that's what he portrays outwardly.
27:31No, and that's the way he is.
27:33Being a little bit older, he's the older brother, having these injuries, it gets you a different perspective in life.
27:37But, you know, I think a little bit what he had, that moto, the same thing I used to have with Ricky when I see him go down in the opening,
27:44especially the opening laps, you're like, oh, all right, well, I'm not going to get excited because this dude is eventually going to come back.
27:50He knows how good Jet is.
27:51It's too early in the race to get excited.
27:54And if you go back a couple weeks before that, I mean, he was literally a lightning strike away from getting his first overall victory.
27:59So, you know, when those things open up, opportunities, these guys know if they can hold on and how early the race is.
28:07And Hunter knows how good his brother is because he rides with him every day.
28:11And remember, he'll have to tangle with him again because even though he looks to be handing a defeat to Jet, they'll be back for Moto2.
28:19And a 2-1 beats a 1-2.
28:20So he'll have to do it again to get that overall win so close so many times last year, second the last couple of weeks this year.
28:28Yeah, and with the track being a little bit hard, hard pack and how slippery it is, we see how easy it is to make mistakes.
28:36Because Hunter was smart and got that gap and pulled on him, it's hard for Jet to make that time up because there's not a lot of traction out here.
28:44So this gap that he has is a lot bigger on this racetrack compared to maybe last weekend where the track was softer.
28:51You can really push and make time up.
28:53Here, Jet was going to hit the ground if he tried doing it, and that's just smart racing about Hunter.
28:58He knew how important those opening laps were, so he's riding really good, but he's also a smart racer who knows when to attack.
29:04And any time you hold that 18 off and make him say no mas, he can hold on another three laps.
29:10Very impressive by the 96.
29:13Now in the 450 class, only one time has Hunter got the Moto win with Jet second.
29:18That was at Thunder Valley last year.
29:20Jet was coming back from that big crash at Hangtown.
29:23Now, to be fair, though, they haven't raced each other much.
29:25The 450 motocross, it was Hunter's rookie year last year, and then Jet missed a lot of the races with injury.
29:32But, man, this guy just keeps getting better and better.
29:3730 seconds before the two laps to go, Sime, so it should be three to go here.
29:41Back to Katie.
29:42Now, the pit boards over here for Hunter Lawrence are a whole lot of numbers.
29:45It's time.
29:46It's letting him know where he's sitting versus any kind of words and encouragement.
29:50In talking to Lars Lindstrom yesterday about Hunter Lawrence, he said that he really does need to capitalize when moments like Jet going down happen.
29:58And he did that today, right?
29:59Lars continued to say one thing that's really unusually great about Hunter as a person is his emotional intelligence is so strong.
30:07So he has the ability to adapt both in his mind, on the bike, off the bike.
30:12And it's something that is being shown as a skill set that is different than a lot of other guys.
30:18Yeah, and like you said, that's his personality, and that's his riding as well.
30:23You know, he kind of lets things come to him.
30:24And when he's comfortable, he can beat anybody in the world, including his brother.
30:28But, you know, being older and really seeing where Jet every day, seeing how good he is and all that, you learn.
30:36You know, no matter how old you are, you always learn something.
30:38And it's really cool to watch Hunter come out here and have the success that he has.
30:41But I can tell you what, man, if I was getting beat by my younger brother like that, there would be some family violence on here.
30:46So it's impressive for him not to just walk up to his brother and just sock him in the mouth.
30:51He can do that.
30:53He can do it with anything.
30:54It is actually impressive when you think they're starting to square off.
30:59They're 1-2 in the series.
31:00They're battling each other for wins.
31:01But it has had zero effect on their relationship.
31:05In fact, I heard Jet was on the Justin Brayton-Adams-Seeing Sir Loan podcast this week.
31:10And he said, they said, you know, when you win so much, how do you keep your career going?
31:14And he's like, as long as Hunter is there, I'm going to have fun at the races.
31:18That's what makes it fun for him, having his brother there.
31:20They are not rivals that you think they would be considering their 1-2 a lot of weeks.
31:28Yeah, no, and I can't attest to it on this level, but I had the chance to ride with my brother, you know, doing the outdoors here to pro motocross.
31:35And there was a feeling that it was a different one racing him.
31:40I was so happy for him when he got his podium.
31:43I wanted to be second.
31:44If he got third, I wanted to beat him.
31:45But there is a different level to it and an excitement and a care for each other, you know, having your brother out there.
31:52And I can only imagine being at this level how cool it is.
31:56But, yeah, at the end of the day, I think that's where their dad, Darren, and their whole family, mom, and really preaching family first no matter what.
32:04And I've had a chance to spend time with both these boys out here.
32:07That's really how they are.
32:09And the only time that I've seen Jet really frustrated is something happens to Hunter.
32:12Then he attacks the rest of the field out there, but these two love each other.
32:17And I'm sure the happiest person on this racetrack is going to be Jet Lawrence if his brother holds on and wins this race because he's happy for his brother any time he has success.
32:26Yeah, their dad has said many times, look, boys, you're going to be not racers for a much longer period of life than you're going to be racers.
32:33Maybe the professional career is a dozen years or so.
32:35So don't burn the relationship, you know, in that heat and then have trouble for the rest of your lives.
32:43So they're keeping a family first.
32:44Like you said, if you go over to the Honda truck, they come into the race together.
32:47They leave the race together.
32:49They're eating lunch together.
32:50Last week, heck, they even switched bikes on Pred State to try some different settings, which is another huge advantage to have teammates that get along that well.
33:00There's usually a little something between teammates, but there is no heat like that between these two Honda runners.
33:07Yeah, well, Darren's telling them to keep family first.
33:10Well, they've taken it to a whole different level because they are family first.
33:14Both of them are running one and two in this game.
33:15Yeah, yeah, first and second.
33:16Yeah, first and second.
33:17Family is truly first out here for these two boys.
33:21Okay, so Jed not able to replicate last week's run.
33:23I got to ask the question.
33:26He got the second.
33:27We saw that eight to nine second gap.
33:28He looked over.
33:30Is there part of him that said, I gave it a run.
33:32We'll wait for Moto2?
33:34Yeah, I mean, I think he obviously made that decision.
33:38And you see Chase Sexton 10 seconds behind him.
33:41And I think the decision was made because of how good Hunter was riding.
33:44You know, I don't know if it was a decision rather than I can't catch him.
33:48I'm not going to get him.
33:48Yeah, I'm not going to be able to get him.
33:50So I'm 10 seconds ahead of Chase.
33:52I can get this overall victory, which is ultimately what I want.
33:55I'm happy to have my brother win.
33:57But he also knows first is good as second is just good as the first in these first motos, especially outdoors.
34:03So he'll let him have one.
34:05We'll see about that relationship in this next moto.
34:08So last lap for Hunter Lawrence looking for his first moto win of 20-25.
34:15Yeah, that was a respectful way of describing it.
34:17Is Jet hustling all the way down to the checker flag?
34:19No.
34:20But it was partially because Hunter was riding so well.
34:23He didn't give it to him.
34:24He couldn't get him.
34:25And we saw that graphic where that gap got down to six seconds.
34:29And that's where JT was talking about, like I saw Jet making that run.
34:33So he wanted to get there, but Hunter picked that pace up.
34:36And again, Jet knew I'm probably going to hit the ground given away how difficult this racetrack is.
34:43It only gives you so much.
34:45He's already on the line.
34:46He decided to take second.
34:47Hey, remember at the beginning of the show, we mentioned the $2,000 that Rocky Mountain ATVMC is going to give to Lorenzo LaCurcio.
34:57We'll update him.
34:58He just actually passed Jorge Prado, who is now back to 12th.
35:02This is Lorenzo LaCurcio on that wildcat Gas Gas.
35:06So he is up to 11th.
35:08Good run for him.
35:09Guillaume is 10th.
35:11Shot 9th.
35:11Barsha 8th.
35:13Malcolm Stewart 7th.
35:14White flag now for LaCurcio.
35:19Yeah.
35:20A good run by Malcolm.
35:21Looked like he's figuring some stuff out.
35:23Best moto of the year, 7th.
35:25And closing in on Eli.
35:26He's going to run out of time, but nobody's better than this guy.
35:29This moto.
35:31And a couple fans pointed out to me last week.
35:32We do have the Marquez brothers running 1-2 in MotoGP.
35:37So we do have some brothers doing this in other forms.
35:40But I don't know.
35:41This might be the highest level of all.
35:43Another 1-2.
35:44First moto at Millville goes to Hunter Lawrence.
35:50Yeah, absolutely.
35:51What they're doing is just as impressive.
35:56And look for the rematch in Moto2.
35:58The overall win streak on the line for Jet, who takes second.
36:02That is the fourth career 450 moto win for Hunter.
36:07And Chase Sexton looking to bring it across to the Red Bull KTM in third.
36:11See you.
