00:30We're coming round to meet you a long way on.
00:42Across 20 years and three incredible adventures, we've travelled to some of the farthest flung corners of the world.
00:48This is us on the road, Charlie. This is us on the way, man.
00:51Yet we've never properly explored the countries on our own doorstep.
00:57Okay, here we go. Into Europe. Let's do it.
00:59So we're spending the summer riding a spectacular loop through 17 of our closest neighbours.
01:05Starting at my house in Scotland, we'll cross over to the continent, travel up through the Nordics and into the Arctic Circle,
01:12down to the Baltics before winding our way through the Alps and across France, returning home about two months later.
01:18And we're going to throw caution to the wind by doing the journey on temperamental 50-year-old bikes that have been given a new lease of life.
01:28My bike's making funny noise.
01:30Riding alongside them on the third motor cycle are cameraman Claudio and Max, and the guys will also be taking personal diary cameras.
01:39Russ and I will be following behind with a small crew and two electric trucks, only meeting up with the guys when necessary.
01:46So, this summer, Europe is our playground.
01:50Wow.
01:51And we're going to follow our noses and see what we find on the open road.
01:56Okay, here we go. Into Europe. Into Holland.
02:13My gosh. Here we go.
02:16Welcome to Holland, everybody.
02:27Oh, I love the tunnel.
02:37This trip's going to be so different from the rest of our trips.
02:40We shouldn't have any pressures of the extreme A to B of it all.
02:43It can be more loose and slower, and we'll have more time to meet people and have more fun, more silliness, I should imagine.
02:50I think it's going to be amazing.
02:56So far, we've ridden from my house in Scotland to Newcastle, where we jumped on an overnight ferry to the Netherlands.
03:03Today, we're going to check out a unique local sport before camping near the German border.
03:09First, though, a quick pit stop for lunch in Amsterdam.
03:18Okay, well, there's a bicycle.
03:20Wait, and go.
03:22I love this town. I've always loved this town.
03:32Breathtaking, isn't it?
03:33As long as I can remember, I've traveled, and I still have that burning feeling of exploring and experiencing different things.
03:46When you're riding a bike, you can go and explore the world. It's good for your soul. It makes you feel so connected.
03:52Are we allowed to go on the pavement?
03:56We're just here to get some herring, don't you know?
03:58Who?
03:59I'm looking forward to trying, I'm starving.
04:00Sorry, sorry, sorry.
04:01Sorry, everyone, sorry.
04:02Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry.
04:03Oh, my God.
04:05Can I buy this?
04:06What?
04:07I haven't used my credit card yet.
04:08Yeah, you buy this, yeah.
04:09Hang on, let's just see what my pin is.
04:10Do you think you've got it on your phone?
04:11I've got my pin.
04:12Oh, I could do it on here.
04:13On your phone, you don't need it.
04:14You don't need your pin?
04:15No, you don't need your pin on your phone.
04:16So, would you like one or two?
04:17Two, please.
04:18Two, please, yeah, because we've got to enjoy together.
04:19Oh, there we go, look.
04:20So, it's the traditional herring.
04:21Yeah.
04:22So, it's been prepared in salt water.
04:23So, it's raw, but it's kind of pure, so the outside is a little bit...
04:25Okay.
04:26Would you like any onion and pickle on that?
04:27Pickle, please.
04:28Pickle?
04:29A little bit.
04:30Only pickles or no onion?
04:31What would you do?
04:32I would do both.
04:33I would do both.
04:34I would buy this, yeah.
04:35Hang on, let's just see what my pin is.
04:36Hang on, let's just see what my pin is.
04:37Hang on, let's just see what my pin is.
04:39Do you think you've got it on your phone?
04:40Any onion and pickle on that?
04:41Pickle, please.
04:42Pickles?
04:43A little bit.
04:44Only pickles or no onion?
04:45What would you do?
04:46I would do both.
04:47Let's have both.
04:48Well, no onions for me.
04:49I can't do raw.
04:50My gluten and my phosphorus is very tricky.
04:53So, we'll do just pickles, too.
04:55Is that a thing?
04:56Where's onions?
04:57I don't know.
04:58I'd just burp them out.
04:59Mmm.
05:00Cute.
05:01That's really good.
05:04Thank you very much.
05:05Very good.
05:06Delicious.
05:07Really nice.
05:08Let's go outside where they've got more room.
05:10To enjoy it.
05:11It is.
05:12This is a huge flower market that goes all the way down there.
05:15I walked along here with Mary not long ago.
05:17Shall we have a quick look?
05:19We haven't got time.
05:20But anyway, it's very nice to be here.
05:22Oh, all right, seeing as we're here.
05:27Just blend in, OK?
05:29And no-one will notice.
05:31OK.
05:32Would you buy me a flower?
05:34I would buy you flowers.
05:35I would.
05:36I've got nowhere to put them.
05:37But I like the thought.
05:38I'll keep that in my mind.
05:39These are seeds.
05:40Buy me a bulb.
05:42Oh, look, there's those big cheeses.
05:45Look.
05:46You know when they talk about the big cheese?
05:47The big cheese.
05:48That's the one they're talking about.
05:49That's the one they're talking about.
05:50Yeah, it was here.
05:51Yeah.
05:52Should we take one for camping tonight?
05:53Yeah.
05:54Let's get a cheese.
05:55Which one do you recommend?
05:56OK.
05:57I have the traditional gouda over here.
05:59Oh, yeah.
06:00It's not pasteurized.
06:01Well, let's take that one, shall we?
06:02Yeah.
06:03Should we try this one?
06:04All right.
06:05Yeah, let's try it.
06:06Ooh, look at that.
06:07Oh, that's the wax you're taking off.
06:09I see.
06:10You've done this before, haven't you?
06:11Mm-hmm.
06:12Thank you very much.
06:13You're welcome.
06:14Thank you so much.
06:15Oh, it smells amazing.
06:17You're taking all this, right?
06:21I'm taking all this.
06:22Yeah, I knew it was.
06:23I'm sorry.
06:24I'm sorry.
06:25I'm sorry.
06:26It's all right.
06:27We'll take one of those, come here.
06:29Guys, if anyone's interested, I have the cheese, OK?
06:33Yep.
06:34If anyone's looking for it later.
06:38OK.
06:39Here we go.
06:45I love the excitement of seeing the world.
06:47I just get such a lot of pleasure out of seeing the different landscapes and being in them.
06:52There they are.
06:53Look, there's our first windmills.
06:55Oh, yeah.
06:56Oh, my God.
06:57Wow.
07:07It's just so flat here, isn't it?
07:09Yeah, I think most of this would have been underwater if it wasn't for the canals.
07:16OK, let's see what this crazy local sport is all about.
07:19All will be revealed in a minute.
07:21In a minute.
07:22In a minute, yeah.
07:29Hello.
07:30Hi.
07:31How are you?
07:32I'm Marika.
07:33Marika, lucky to see you.
07:34I didn't realise it was proper set-up.
07:36Wow.
07:37Oh, look at that.
07:38Oh, my God.
07:39Oh, my God.
07:40Oh, my God.
07:41Oh.
07:42Ouch.
07:45The furthest gem in the whole world is 22 metres and 21 centimetres.
07:50And what's holding the pole in the bottom?
07:55Rocks.
07:56Little rocks.
07:57I love that it's just unique to this part of the world, isn't it?
08:01Like, you don't see this anywhere else, do you?
08:03I've never seen it anywhere else.
08:04It must have come from the necessity of getting over the canals.
08:07Well, from field to field, I suppose.
08:08Yeah.
08:09They just took a stick of it.
08:10Go and get that thing over there.
08:11OK.
08:12Look.
08:13Look, this young girl here.
08:16Look.
08:17Watch, watch, watch, watch.
08:19It's so mad, eh?
08:20I bet you that moment where you have to...
08:22There's a point of no return, you know, where you reach out.
08:25Oh, she looks like she's hurt her leg.
08:27Oh, she's strapped it anyway.
08:28That's a bicycle diet.
08:29Oh, for grip?
08:30Yeah.
08:31Oh, for grip.
08:32I thought she'd hurt herself.
08:33They also use a spray for more...
08:35Oh, so like sticky, sticky, sticky in your hand.
08:38Here we go.
08:39There she goes.
08:40Sometimes they fall in the water.
08:42Oh.
08:43Does that one hit the edge?
08:44It's hitting the edge, you think?
08:45Look, there's foamy.
08:46Oh, there's foamy.
08:47Yeah.
08:48I don't know when Charlie's...
08:49When are you doing your jump?
08:50With my jump?
08:57Oh, he's in!
08:58He's in!
08:59Oh, that's cold.
09:00That is motivation to get it right next time.
09:02Yeah, definitely.
09:07How do you start?
09:08What's the first thing you do?
09:09What's the...?
09:10When I was a little kid, I was climbing trees.
09:13Yeah.
09:14Is that the first thing?
09:15Just to climb a pole?
09:16Yes.
09:17And then to do it when it's moving over water?
09:19Yeah.
09:20So he's got first place?
09:21Yeah.
09:22Top man!
09:23He got first place!
09:24Nice.
09:25Good man, that's great.
09:26What an opportunity, eh?
09:27To be able to, you know, explore a backyard.
09:41You know, all you have to do is jump on a boat and you've got the whole of Europe to explore.
09:46Yeah, absolutely.
09:47It was quite amazing to watch these young people throw themselves at a pole and climb super high up it.
09:56And just something you wouldn't see anywhere else.
09:59There's the smell of grass and the evening light.
10:07It's after nine o'clock.
10:09Look!
10:10Oh, yeah.
10:11Woo!
10:12I love that about bikes, that you can smell everything.
10:15It becomes another sensual experience as you ride along.
10:25Oh, what a spot.
10:27What an amazing place to camp.
10:37How are you?
10:38I'm Jake.
10:39My name is Ewan.
10:40And this is my friend Charlie over here.
10:41Nice to meet you.
10:42This is beautiful.
10:43It's the first time I've been so close to a windmill in my whole life.
10:47You mean?
10:48I'm the miller on this mill, on this mill.
10:50Yeah.
10:51I volunteer.
10:52I used, I work with this mill.
10:55Wow.
10:56Yeah.
10:57When the water is too high, then have it to drain.
10:59Oh, so you're pumping the water.
11:01Yes, yes.
11:02And you're still working today.
11:03Yes, yes.
11:04Can we see inside?
11:05Yes, come in.
11:06No.
11:07No.
11:08No.
11:09No.
11:10No.
11:11When was it built?
11:12Uh, 1877.
11:13Wow.
11:14Yeah, you can look up there.
11:15I want you, this is also the way you have to go downstairs.
11:19Look at the edge of the wing.
11:33It's like an aeroplane wing.
11:34Look at that.
11:35Pshhh.
11:36Amazing.
11:37I am retired and it's my hobby.
11:38This is the best way to spend your time.
11:39Ah, nice.
11:40That's nice.
11:41Well, I think now we can get our tent up and we can, er...
11:42Yeah.
11:43Spend the night.
11:44I mean, you've got a ground sheet.
11:45I don't, I'm not sure I have a ground sheet.
11:46No, that's not right.
11:47I don't know how good this tent's going to be when we get a bit colder.
11:50I'm sort of thinking this is quite summery, this.
11:51This tent.
11:52Oh, hello.
11:53I'm a bagpiper.
11:54Nothing to me, this.
11:56This is just a, like, a bagpiper.
11:59Oh, no, no, no, no.
12:00I'm not sure I'm going to spend the night.
12:01I mean, you've got a ground sheet.
12:02I don't, I'm not sure I have a ground sheet.
12:04No, that's not right.
12:05I don't know how good this tent's going to be when we get a bit colder.
12:08I'm sort of thinking this is quite summery, this, this tent.
12:12Oh, hello.
12:13I'm a bagpiper.
12:16Nothing to me, this.
12:19This is just a, like, half a three, four set.
12:24Oh, that's it.
12:28Look at that.
12:29That's good, isn't it?
12:49Sorry for my morning appearance.
12:56I have to say it was quite toasty in my sleeping bag,
13:00which I was relieved about because I didn't know.
13:02But what a place to wake up.
13:04Look up there.
13:06Right underneath the old windmill.
13:08Spectacular.
13:10Spectacular.
13:11Spectacular.
13:12No words in the vernacular.
13:15That was a tough old sleep, that was.
13:19It's always difficult the first time.
13:21That you sleep in camping.
13:24When you haven't done it for a long time, you know.
13:29I was toasty in my bag, I'm so sorry.
13:34It's my mistake of just not being into bed properly.
13:37You know?
13:38Yeah.
13:39And it was quite cold.
13:40Oh, no, it was cold last night.
13:41Yeah, it was cold when we arrived.
13:42Yeah, it was properly cold.
13:44I'm looking forward to this ride today, Charlie.
13:46Yeah.
13:47After yesterday, we sort of got into the rhythm of it a little bit, didn't we?
13:54It's not really very attractive.
13:57It's like a gorilla's arse.
13:59But, like, really close to my mouth all day long.
14:02You know what I mean?
14:03That feeling.
14:08My bike needs a little waking up.
14:10She's not quite ready for the day until she's, like me, had a couple of coffees.
14:14You lead on, Charlie.
14:16We're going to your gaff today.
14:25That was a beautiful campsite.
14:27I kind of made a lot of mistakes.
14:29I needed to be wearing clothes when I go to sleep next time.
14:34Today, we're crossing the border into Germany,
14:36heading for the town of Wesselboden, where my late mum was born.
14:39Oh, God, it's such a difference when the sun is out.
14:46Oh, yeah.
14:50Do you think we're in Germany, Charlie?
14:52I don't know. We're going a lot faster.
14:54Or they are.
14:57I've always ridden old motorbikes,
15:00and this one is a 1974 Californian police bike.
15:04No! I don't want to be arrested!
15:13I haven't done anything!
15:16What kind of time is it, Charlie? Is it 12 or is it 11?
15:20It's 12 o'clock.
15:21Shall we do a lunch?
15:22Shall we keep an eye out for somewhere? That looks nice.
15:24Yeah, I think so.
15:25Oh, hang on. This looks promising.
15:26Oh, oh, oh, oh!
15:27Oh, hello. There's a little person
15:42Oh, hello, there's a little
15:46over here
15:50Very nicely done, Charlie
15:52I just wanted to get as close as possible to the chips
15:56I was hoping that might be a coffee truck
15:59That looks like an alcohol truck
16:02Hang on, what's this?
16:05Wait a minute, what? Hang on
16:07What's that all about?
16:09Two days in and we're already on our second marching band
16:13Look at that
16:16What is it?
16:26It's like an anniversary or something
16:28Basically every year they are shooting out
16:31Who is the shooting king?
16:33That was cool, good timing
16:35Hello, good to see you
16:42How are you?
16:43Nice to meet you
16:44So you're the shooting champion?
16:45Okay
16:46What does this mean?
16:47Achtung Schützenfest
16:49It's a drunken shooter
16:50It's a drunk
16:51When you drink
16:53You go
16:55I see
16:55Day drinking is very normal around here
17:01Yeah
17:01They all just sit down, shoot a bit
17:07And then go and have a drink
17:10Drink and shoot
17:12Good mixture
17:13Yesterday we had a big, big, big party
17:19Party so great
17:21As we never had
17:24Oh, really?
17:25Yes
17:25We love it
17:27That's great
17:28Okay, here we go, we're going to have a go
17:29That's a long way
17:31Charlie, you go first
17:32And then
17:34Load it
17:34Close it
17:36Okay
17:37Out
17:38Okay
17:38Now you're at a slight disadvantage
17:40Because you haven't been drinking for three days
17:43Okay
17:43What's the feeling?
17:47I don't know
17:48But
17:49Oh, there
17:50Oh, there, look
17:51Oh, hey
17:52It's yours
17:54Oh, thank you
17:54Thank you
17:55Thank you
17:56So that's a solid four
17:57Basically
17:58Okay
17:59And slowly
18:01Yes, sir
18:02No, you got it
18:07That's not bad
18:08I thought I mentally missed it
18:10Okay
18:10Pretty darn good, that is
18:12Thank you very much, sir
18:13It was a nice chance
18:14That we came across your party
18:16And it was nice to see
18:17That you're all having such great time
18:19Thank you
18:19Cheers
18:20Thank you
18:20Have a nice trip
18:21Yes
18:22Thank you very much
18:23That was a very cool set-up they had there, wasn't it?
18:36Yeah
18:36That target practising was like in the movies
18:39I can't imagine having one attached to a bar, though
18:43It seems like a disaster waiting to happen
18:45But I suppose it's been that way forever
18:47Yeah
18:48I've never seen so many drunk people
18:53We're nearly at my mum's hometown now
18:57Just a very right away
18:59Oh, wow, there it is
19:00This takes me right back to my childhood
19:06When we used to visit the German side of my family
19:09My mum passed away a few years ago
19:14And we were very close
19:15So visiting the place where she grew up
19:18And spent a lot of her time
19:19Is very special to me
19:20We're meeting my mother's brothers' children
19:25Boris and Eureka
19:27And we're going to stay with them
19:28And then show Ewan where mum came from
19:31And where I went as a kid
19:32How often would you come here?
19:35Not hugely often
19:36But when we did come
19:37It was real kind of jam-packed
19:40Yeah, holiday time
19:41Holiday time, yeah, exactly
19:42Cousins
19:43They always have such a great time with cousins
19:45Vessel Borden
19:48We're here
19:50Gosh
19:52It's been a very long time since I've been here
19:55Oh, my God
19:58Everybody is here
19:59Hello
20:00Hello, hello
20:02Woo
20:03Look
20:05How funny
20:06Hello
20:06Good to see you
20:09Nice to meet you
20:10How are you?
20:10Hi, Boris
20:11You, and nice to meet you
20:12How are you?
20:13Hi, I'm Adika
20:13I'm Adika
20:14I'm Adina
20:14I'm Charlie
20:15Nice to meet you
20:16Yeah, welcome
20:16So this is all my mother's family
20:18All these wonderful people that I grew up with
20:22They all looked after me
20:24I haven't seen this one for such a long time
20:27It's quite extraordinary
20:28And this is yours?
20:31This is yours
20:31Oh, my gosh
20:33Whoa
20:34Charlie, let's do the next one in this
20:37Yeah, it's amazing, isn't it?
20:39You know what would be good about it
20:40Is when you would drive
20:42I could have a nap
20:43Yeah
20:44We've got to take this for a quick spin
20:47Oh, like that
20:51So, like, clockwork
20:55Did you feel it?
20:56Okay, just that
20:57Woo-hoo-hoo!
20:59Mom and Dad had one of these
21:01Did they?
21:01That was their first car
21:02No way
21:03It was one of these
21:03You know, Dad was always slightly eccentric
21:06And, you know
21:07Let's go round the round
21:08Do I come back?
21:09Okay
21:09Do you remember a film Brazil?
21:11Yeah
21:11How Jonathan Price drove a little
21:13Measure Smith bubble car
21:15I've always put stuff going on
21:16Like the Roberto D-Mister
21:19Look at that
21:20Yeah
21:20Like the trumpet
21:21That's nice, isn't it?
21:23Oh, you should get used to this
21:24Yeah
21:25Yeah
21:25Well, what a great welcome, Charlie
21:33I know
21:33Oh, your family
21:35It's so lovely
21:35Let me get my dad on the phone
21:39Here we go, look
21:41Hey!
21:41Charlie spoke the better German in the family, yeah?
21:46Yeah
21:47Yeah, yeah, natürlich
21:48And Charlie
21:49Yes
21:49Charlie spoke the hairlige German
21:53Oh!
21:54Okay, that's fine
21:56Thank you for that, my darling
21:57That's so wonderful, too
21:59So nice
22:01Look, and there's Boris with his son
22:04Look
22:04Oh!
22:06Yeah
22:06Coming here and meeting Charlie's family
22:08Has been really special
22:09It's lovely to see him with us
22:11This German side of the family
22:13And meet them all for the first time
22:15And, er
22:16Now I'm taking this opportunity
22:18To dry my tent out a little bit
22:20And
22:21God, I look like my brother with my haircut
22:23I really look like my brother
22:25Anyway
22:26Cheers
22:26I've ordered a new helmet
22:36Because this is not
22:38It's not great for my sound
22:40And I'm coming up with some really amazing thoughts
22:43On the bike
22:44That are not being captured
22:45So I'm going full flip-top
22:47I don't know
22:48I'm listening to half of them
22:49No, you don't hear half of them
22:50Or at least
22:51You don't seem to hear half of them
22:53This is Uncle Yano's tractor
22:58He'd go down to the supermarket
23:00Where his farm used to be
23:01Where my mum's little house used to be
23:03And he'd collect the beers
23:05And then he'd go and visit friends on the way home
23:07And we're just going to have a quick look around town now
23:11And see where my mum lived the last parts of her years
23:14She had a beautiful little house here
23:16Okay, right, let's do it
23:20This is how I remember my Uncle Yano
23:25God, I don't remember the
23:27I don't remember the fumes
23:28Slabs of smoke
23:29Yeah, I don't remember that
23:31Well, maybe as a kid I thought
23:33Wow, smoke
23:34The tractor is making me feel much better
23:39About the noise my bike makes
23:41This was mum's little house
23:45This one here on the corner
23:47It's tiny inside
23:49It looks bigger outside
23:51It's like a super steep staircase
23:53Going up to the top
23:54Really, really steep
23:55And there's a pretty little garden in the back
23:57There you go
24:04See you later
24:10Thank you
24:11I really, really, really enjoyed it
24:13So thank you, thank you
24:14Well, there we go, eh?
24:20Time to move
24:21Nice
24:21It's always nice to reconnect with the family at the end of the day
24:26Must be emotional, I'm sure
24:28So, let's head to Denmark
24:32Long ways, Gandhi, man
24:34Long ways, Gandhi
24:36I've got these headphones
24:38And I wanted to just see how it sounds
24:41Oh, yeah
24:45We're headed to the Danish island of Funen
24:49Where we'll spend the night
24:50Near a small town called Farburg
24:52So that I'll never feel alone again
24:58They've always been so kind
25:01When I've brought you away from me
25:06I hope they didn't get you mine
25:10Your heart is too strong anyway
25:14We need to fetch back the time
25:19We're stopping here, Charlie
25:21Maybe this is the border
25:24Is this Denmark?
25:26Yes, this is Denmark
25:27I don't think I've ever been to Denmark
25:29Yeah, I don't think I've ever been to Denmark
25:31Hello
25:34Okay, but I nod
25:36Nice
25:37Hey, we're in Scandinavia now, man
25:40Yes, we are
25:42It's just so different already
25:48We've come into Denmark
25:49And the landscape's changed
25:51It's not so flat anymore
25:52And I'm sure there's all kinds of Scandinavian blood
25:58In my heritage, if you look back
26:00I'm so excited to explore
26:02Oh, this is beautiful
26:05This is beautiful
26:05Yeah, really, really nice
26:08Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo
26:17Wow, that was awesome
26:20Good bridge action
26:21I think we'll cross a lot of them
26:24Because Denmark is made up of hundreds of islands
26:26Oh, wow
26:27I just love seeing it change
26:31The landscape as you go along
26:32It's brilliant
26:32Well, that's what's so lovely about sitting on a motorcycle
26:37Oh, it's a spit of land
26:41Well, let's stop
26:44Yeah
26:44Denmark, you're blowing my mind
26:48You know what it reminds me of, Charlie, of course
26:53No prizes for guessing
26:55Scotland
26:56Well, well, well
27:02That air is like a balm or something
27:04Isn't it beautiful?
27:06Fancy a dip, Charlie?
27:08Uh, yeah
27:09Yeah, sure
27:11It's not that cold
27:13It's just that it's pebbly
27:14Charlie Booms going swimming
27:16Oh, Charlie
27:20Who's idea to be?
27:21So, how deep does it consider that I've actually gone in
27:34Is it just in here?
27:36I've pulled my car
27:37I've pulled my car
27:53Okay
27:54Oh, I was bad on the feet.
28:21Now I don't have to wash these undies.
28:23That is as good as a sort of launder, isn't it?
28:27Remember we almost got arrested in Egypt?
28:29They were nudies swimming and the military came along.
28:32They were really angry.
28:33They were angry.
28:35It's a military beach, so the military guys came running on it
28:38because two white people are naked in the beach of the military.
28:42Americans are invading us naked.
28:45Woo!
28:47I mean, you know, it was like, OK, now get in there, OK?
28:51A frolic together, OK, so I can understand it.
28:55Dunk him under, dunk him!
28:57All right, guys, we'll get the cameras, in you go.
29:00OK, Charlie.
29:06Let's do it.
29:08That was lovely, Duren.
29:09Nice idea.
29:10I know, that was awesome.
29:11It was a little colder than I expected.
29:13I couldn't bring myself to put my head under water.
29:17OK, let's find our bed for the night.
29:19It's a bit of an upgrade from camping.
29:21It's so nimble, this bike, I have to say.
29:23It feels really easy to chuck about.
29:25Yeah.
29:26Poppies!
29:28Wow, beautiful poppy fields.
29:29Holy moly.
29:30Look at that.
29:31It's spectacular.
29:32Wow.
29:33Oh, here we go, left here.
29:34This is it here.
29:35This is it here.
29:36This is it here.
29:37It's a bit of an upgrade from camping.
29:38It's a bit of an upgrade from camping.
29:40It's so nimble, this bike, I have to say.
29:42It feels really easy to chuck about.
29:45Yeah.
29:46Poppies!
29:47Wow, beautiful poppy fields.
29:48Holy moly.
29:49Look at that.
29:50Spectacular.
29:51Wow.
29:52Oh, here we go, left here.
29:54This is it here.
29:55This is it.
29:56Hotel slot.
29:58This is a very, very, very grand entrance to a hotel.
30:05Bloody Nora.
30:06Wow.
30:07There we are.
30:08Goodness me, it looks amazing, isn't it?
30:11Just bonkers.
30:13Good place for a horror film.
30:14It could be quite spooky.
30:17Shall we have a bit of a wander around?
30:20Oh, my God.
30:22Yes, a staircase.
30:24Oh, holy moly.
30:29Quite stunning, isn't it?
30:30Are we?
30:31Look at this one.
30:33Oh.
30:34It's lovely with this light as well.
30:35Yeah, beautiful.
30:36And that ceiling.
30:37What's through here?
30:38Oh, my God.
30:39It goes on and on.
30:40That's for the real brave of heart.
30:41Oh, Michelle, I got the collywobbles just then.
30:43I did get the collywobbles.
30:44An incredible property.
30:45Hello.
30:46Look at that view.
30:47Oh, my God.
30:48It's lovely.
30:49Look at that avenue of trees for the drive approach.
30:53It's our first day in Denmark.
30:55It felt pretty good to get in here.
30:56The landscape changes.
30:57It starts sort of rolling hills, and you don't see as far anymore because, like, when there's
31:00all those flatlands in Holland and northern Germany, you could just see for miles, couldn't
31:05you?
31:06That's what I like, that rolling hill stuff.
31:07And then riding through those, like, tree-lined roads, beautiful.
31:28We got a new in-earphone and, um, see if this new system works.
31:33Okay.
31:35See if he's on the mesh, Charlie, next door.
31:39Oh, it opens out.
31:44Well, hello.
31:45Just check to see if you've done your helmet.
31:46No, not yet.
31:47Oh.
31:48What?
31:49I've done that.
31:50Oh, it doesn't work.
31:51I was going to come play with you.
31:52Oh.
31:53Channel three.
31:54Hi.
31:55Hello.
31:56Hello.
31:57Oh, there you are.
31:58Oh, hello.
31:59Yeah.
32:00Yes.
32:01Disc for Daniels.
32:02That's pretty good, isn't it?
32:04Yeah.
32:05That's really good.
32:06I like it.
32:07A very strange couple of guys we are, aren't we?
32:10Chatting away in a big haunted castle.
32:13Yeah.
32:14With our helmets on.
32:15All right, then, mate.
32:16All right, mate.
32:17Well, listen, see you in the morning.
32:18It's really nice to see you.
32:19Yeah.
32:20Oh.
32:21And, uh...
32:22I'll see you later.
32:26Sleep well, Charlie.
32:27Yeah, sleep well, mate.
32:29We can actually hear each other.
32:31Through the wall.
32:32Through the wall.
32:33I mean, we just sleep in our helmets and we just don't need to stop chatting to each other
32:36all night.
32:37I just hear your breathing as I go to sleep.
32:39Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
32:51Okay, let's do it.
32:52All right, here we go.
32:53Another day.
32:54I feel like my bike is so noisy.
32:57It's just a bit quieter.
32:59I woke up feeling stranger than I ever did.
33:08We're headed east on the scenic route, country roads, bridges, and ferry crossings, to eventually
33:14reach the island of Moon, famous for its beautiful landscape.
33:19And on the way, a Danish speciality for lunch.
33:25Oh, yeah, this guy.
33:26Look.
33:27Should have been a graffiti artist just pretending to be a roads guy.
33:30Here we are.
33:31The smokehouse.
33:39Oh, smells amazing.
33:40Hi.
33:41Hello.
33:42Hi.
33:43Lina, nice to meet you.
33:44Is this all smoked locally?
33:45Yeah, we smoke here.
33:46Oh, here?
33:47Yeah.
33:48Ah.
33:49So we smoke every day, yeah.
33:50Oh, fantastic.
33:51Is it something we can see?
33:52The smokehouse?
33:53Can we have a quick look?
33:54This way?
33:55Come on.
33:56Oh, my gosh.
33:57Oh, this is the smokehouse.
33:58Oh, wow.
33:59Okay.
34:00When did the fish go in here?
34:01How long ago?
34:02Um, seven o'clock.
34:03Oh, this morning.
34:04Okay.
34:05Yeah, yeah.
34:06The whole oven is full.
34:08And then we smoke three, four times every day.
34:11It's a little bit noisy, but I hope it's okay.
34:14Are you ready?
34:15Yeah, yeah, yeah.
34:16Oh.
34:17Oh, my gosh.
34:18Oh, wow.
34:19Smells amazing.
34:20And what do you smoke it in?
34:22It's some wood.
34:23Wood?
34:24Yeah.
34:25Any particular kind of wood, or?
34:26No, I cannot tell you.
34:28Sorry.
34:29Oh, a secret.
34:30That's a secret.
34:31Oh, of course.
34:32Beautiful.
34:33Well, we can't wait to try it.
34:34Yeah.
34:35Yeah.
34:36Now it's lunchtime.
34:37Okay, now it's lunchtime, yeah.
34:38Thank you so much.
34:39You're welcome.
34:40Oh, I can't wait.
34:42I've got my fork.
34:45I just moved up with my fork.
34:48Oh, my golly, gosh, look at this.
34:51Oh, the shrimps.
34:53Oh.
34:54Thank you so much.
34:55Oh, the lovely rye bread.
34:57Can you have nice and pops?
34:59Yes, we have a fork already.
35:00Thank you very much.
35:01Oh, my God.
35:02Bon appetit, Charlie.
35:04Oh.
35:05Wow.
35:06Oh, my God, it smells so delicious.
35:09So delicious.
35:11That's it.
35:13Just leave me here, guys.
35:15Enjoy the rest of the trip.
35:16It's been really great fun, but I'm going to stay here.
35:20Sorry.
35:24Oh, Ewan, you've got a bit of bird poop on here.
35:26Let me clean it up for you.
35:28Thanks, Charlie.
35:29That's when you know you've got a really good friend
35:31when he wipes the poop off your jacket.
35:34Cool.
35:35I thought I got a drip.
35:36Thanks, Charlie.
35:37That's very funny.
35:38Well, it's very good luck, apparently.
35:40It's very good luck.
35:41I don't know who came up with that nonsense.
35:43Yeah, somebody who just got pooped on, I suppose.
35:46OK.
35:47Off we go.
35:55Oh, well, that was...
35:56That was lovely.
35:57Very, very, very delicious.
36:00I'm burping up smoked fish all the time now, just so you know.
36:04Oh.
36:05I love all these bridges connecting all these islands.
36:06I love all these bridges connecting all these islands.
36:10It's great, isn't it?

36:40Good bridge action.
36:42What timing.
36:43I don't think the outer moon is that far now.
36:45Considering this is a 45-minute ferry, you know, the food is beautiful.
36:49Look.
36:50I don't want to diss Britain, but on a train in Britain, you know, you can be on a nine-hour
36:54train.
36:55You know, you can be on a nine-hour train.
36:57And you don't get food anything like that.
36:58Sorry, Britain.
36:59Wow, that's hot.
37:00That's hot.
37:01Where should we sit, guys?
37:02Look, it's a quiet cat.
37:03Look.
37:04It's a quiet cat.
37:05Look, it's a quiet cat.
37:06Shhhhh.
37:07Let's not go there.
37:08Hello?

37:37What are you listening to Charlie?
37:39I'm listening to Kylie Renaud.
37:41Do you remember when you introduced me to her in Moulin Rouge?
37:46Oh, yeah.
37:47We came out of the bathroom, and you introduced me to Kylie and Nicole.
37:51And you said, this is Charlie.
37:53And then you wandered off.
37:54And they were looking at me as if to say something, you know.
37:57And I...
37:58This is what I said.
37:59I said, this is...
38:00This is where we are.
38:01And then I walked off.
38:02That was my chance.
38:03Ha, ha, ha, ha.
38:09Right, I think we're here, guys.
38:11The island of Moulin.
38:13Here we are.
38:14Here we are.
38:15Clip to sea.
38:16Look at this.
38:17It's absolutely gorgeous, isn't it?
38:18Beautiful, yeah?
38:20This little island is famous for its nature reserve and its white chalk cliffs.
38:28We're meeting a bar owner who'll take us out to see them on his boat.
38:32My bike is shaking my hands and feet to bits today.
38:37I don't know what's up with her.
38:40Come on, baby.
38:41Come on.
38:42There you go.
38:43Wow, look at this.
39:00Welcome, you guys.
39:01Hello.
39:03How are you?
39:04I'm Ewan.
39:05My name is Ole.
39:06Nice to meet you, Ole.
39:07This is Charlie.
39:08Hi, I'm Martin.
39:09Hi, Martin.
39:10Nice to see you.
39:11Nice bikes.
39:12Yeah, old.
39:13Yeah, it should be like that.
39:14So what kind of seamanship did you do?
39:16I was racing sailing boats.
39:18Oh, you were a racer.
39:19Okay.
39:20Across the Pacific, across the Atlantic many times, North Atlantic.
39:23But one day you have to come home.
39:25Yes.
39:26Because if you're staying out there too long, you never find what you're looking for.
39:29Yeah, yeah.
39:30Because you have to find it at home.
39:31Yeah, for sure.
39:32And what is this bar?
39:33The name of the bar is Club Heston, and it means hold your horse.
39:37Hold your horse.
39:38Take it easy.
39:39That's the name.
39:40Nice.
39:41Cool.
39:42You see a lot of the names here?
39:43Yeah.
39:44If you come on a horse, you're allowed to write the name on the horse.
39:46Oh, yeah, yeah.
39:47And you get a free drink.
39:48And if you come on an old motorbike, for instance?
39:50Oh, yeah, it helps.
39:51Because I saw the bike.
39:52It helps.
39:53Yeah.
39:54They look nice.
39:55You're qualified to be allowed to write the name.
39:57Okay, good.
39:58Okay.
39:59I feel terribly under pressure.
40:02That's a nice drawing.
40:03Oh, my gosh.
40:04Hello.
40:05Hiya.
40:06Hello.
40:07Hiya.
40:08Hello.
40:09That is hilarious.
40:14Is this a common thing to come here?
40:15It is, yeah, because we're good friends with Ole, and we ride together often.
40:21It came naturally.
40:22Of course, it should go inside.
40:23Of course, but why not?
40:24I'm guessing there's good riding around here.
40:25Amazing.
40:26Amazing.
40:27They are almost bulletproof, so we go near the edge of the cliffs as well, so it's really
40:28amazing.
40:29Oh, wow.
40:30Oh, wow.
40:31He doesn't want to say it.
40:32I'm sorry, darling.
40:33I don't have any.
40:34I don't have any.
40:35No, no more.
40:36I can't have any.
40:37No more.
40:38I can't have my fingers.
40:39Those are cliffs.
40:40What he really wants is the gin.
40:41That's what he really wants is the gin.
40:42That's what he really wants is the gin.
40:43That's what he really wants.
40:44I don't have any.
40:45I don't have any.
40:46No, no more.
40:47I can't have my fingers.
40:48Those cliffs like that.
40:49What he really wants is the gin.
40:50That's what he really wants, you know?
40:54Oh, Jesus.
40:55Oh, my God.
40:56He's got it.
40:57I can't have any.
40:58I can't have any.
40:59No more.
41:00I can't have my fingers.
41:01Those are cliffs like that.
41:03What he really wants is the gin.
41:05That's what he really wants, you know?
41:07I can't have any more.
41:10Yes, sir.
41:11Those horses coming into the bar was just hilarious
41:20as we're feeding them apples and buying them a drink.
41:28OK, so we're on the way to meet Ula,
41:30who we met in the bar with the horses.
41:33Then we're going to go out in Ula's boat,
41:36take a look at these cliffs on this island of Murn.
41:40It's beautiful down here, absolutely gorgeous.
41:44I like this little island. It's cool, isn't it, Murn?
41:47It's a nice name.
42:06Ooh!
42:07Poor Ivar. Ivar, are you OK?
42:10You're going to get hypothermia standing there.
42:13Oh, he's going in.
42:17Oh, my God.
42:19That's over and above.
42:21Well, you got it?
42:21Yep.
42:25OK, please take a look at that.
42:26The conditions are a little bit rough,
42:28so we're just trying to make sure that we can get the boat on.
42:31Do you think this would be a bad time to ask where the coffee is?
42:47OK.
42:48Well, the captain's in. Well done.
42:49Well done, guys. Thank you.
42:50The cliff should be just around this corner.
43:04Wow, it's so pretty. My gosh.
43:06Wow, look at it. Amazing.
43:14All what you see was once a tropical seabed.
43:1810,000 years ago, ice came like a glacier
43:22and took the seabed
43:24and put it up like this.
43:28So all the white stuff is algae from the sea,
43:31lying, falling down,
43:33so if you put your hand on the wall, it's 5,000 years.
43:35It's incredible that this was all at the bottom of the sea, wasn't it?
43:41Tropical.
43:45Oh, amazing.
43:51Good?
43:52Yeah.
43:54Oh, it's really nice.
43:55Also, I can taste the transmission oil from my hand.
44:01See you, Ula.
44:03Take care.
44:04Bit of a dude, really, isn't he?
44:05Yeah.
44:10What a lovely morning.
44:12It was fantastic getting down to the beach.
44:14What a place.
44:15It's so beautiful down here.
44:18I think we'll be in Copenhagen tonight.
44:21Let's do it.
44:22Yee-haw, let's go.
44:24Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, shit.
