00:00Let's continue to do this compare and contrast kind of thing.
00:02You have a stat on Shohei Ohtani,
00:04and then maybe you can link it to an old-time guy.
00:07Yeah, Shohei Ohtani, another one, too.
00:09It's just incredible history.
00:10Shohei Ohtani has 28 home runs
00:12and six triples through his first 80 games this year.
00:14The last MLB player to get there through 80 games,
00:18Willie Mays in 1954,
00:20who many people will argue is the greatest player all around ever.
00:24And that is a valid argument to have.
00:27But Willie Mays, Shohei Ohtani,
00:29which goes back to that other conversation
00:30we had earlier at the top of the hour,
00:32which is, you know, if Willie Mays could pitch,
00:35would you want him to pitch in necessarily
00:38and take on all that injury risk
00:40just to have him make 30 starts
00:42and impact another 150 or 160 innings with his arm?
00:46Maybe, maybe you do want him.
00:48And I get it.
00:48You know, I understand at some point,
00:50Babe Ruth stopped pitching, right?
00:52And I don't want to rob the game of the unicorn.
00:55I'm not the thief of joy here.
00:58I'm trying to say that I don't want Shohei Ohtani
01:01to miss a whole season or to, you know,
01:04have the Dodgers fall off as this juggernaut team
01:07because Shohei Ohtani is not on the field.
01:08And I'm just concerned that going back into this,
01:11this current era of pitching where velocity is king
01:14and all the stuff that everyone's doing,
01:16I just don't know if it's the best way
01:18to manage the massive investment we've made on him.
01:21I don't think anybody expected if Ohtani just hit last year,
01:25that he would be quite as 50-50 amazing as he was.
01:29There's a 50-50 player last year.
01:31Oh my God.
01:33Can we stop and pause and think about that?
01:35Those don't grow on trees either.
01:37I know it's amazing to watch,
01:38but it is scary to watch at the same time.
01:41You're kind of watching with your hands over your eyes
01:43and peeking out your fingers
01:44because it's almost like a suspense film
01:47where you're just hoping that everything's going to work out okay.
01:50And the adrenaline rush is fun.
01:52I just don't know if the end of the day,
01:54it makes you sick.
