Thunderstorms bringing heavy rain, hail and the potential for lightning and thunder will continue to make their way northwards, up through Wales, the northwestern of England and into southern Scotland by the early hours of tomorrow. By late evening a second band of thunderstorms bringing the prospect of torrential rain, hail, frequent lightning and gusty wind will make its way north, passing through the south east and eastern fringes of England. There is an Amber Thunderstorm warning for large parts of Kent, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. With a Yellow Thunderstorm warning for much of the rest of the south east. Both warnings are in place from this evening until early morning tomorrow. 00:00Hi there. This is one of those forecasts in which we're watching developments over northern France very closely during the rest of Friday because what develops there could drift to parts of the UK and we're talking about torrential thunderstorms, hail that measures a centimetre or two, frequent lightning and gusty winds, particularly for parts of Norfolk, Essex, Suffolk, Kent.
00:21That's where an amber warning has been issued and that's the area of greatest risk of severe impacts from these thunderstorms but of course, as is always the case in these situations, it's highly uncertain when it comes to developments over northern France and the precise nature of them and the direction in which they travel across the channel towards the UK.
00:44So it's the east and southeast of England at greatest risk for impacts but elsewhere across the UK there is still the risk of thunderstorms taking place overnight.
00:53We've already seen a spell of wet weather move north across southwest England into Wales that continues to track northwards across parts of northwest England into southern Scotland overnight and you can see by the speckled nature of the forecast rain there'll be some heavy downpours and even some thunderstorms taking place in western and southwestern parts of the UK as the night goes on.
01:12So a lively night of weather, whatever does develop in the southeast will move into the north sea later but always the threat of further developments taking place and pushing into southern parts of the UK by dawn.
01:24Away from the showers and thunderstorms, well there will be some clear spells but even under the clear skies there won't be any relief from the humidity a muggy night to come.
01:33Then as we head into Saturday morning we're going to see further heavy showers moving across parts of central and northern England into southern Scotland.
01:42Spells of, longer spells of rain across Scotland into northern Ireland, parts of Wales as well, heavy at times.
01:48So a messy picture for much of the UK with low pressure close by and we've either got rain or showers to contend with.
01:55But the more persistent rain will by the afternoon be across parts of Scotland into northern Ireland and northern England with some thunderstorms in places as well.
02:03More scattered showers across Wales, the Midlands and the south and southwest.
02:08Certainly a drier spell developing towards east Anglia and the southeast following the risk of thunderstorms overnight.
02:15And we've still got some warmth in the atmosphere so still the potential for 26 or 27 Celsius in the far east of England.
02:23But elsewhere, obviously temperatures are going to be held back because of the outbreaks of rain and showers.
02:27The rain continues across Scotland and northern England as we go into the early hours of Sunday.
02:32But eventually the heavier bursts tend to ease away and it's a drier start to Sunday for many places.
02:40Some brightness first thing, a fresher feel I think, a more comfortable night for sleeping.
02:44And then we start with those spells of sunshine during Sunday morning.
02:48But low pressure, not far away.
02:51So still the potential for some scattered showers to develop across parts of the Midlands.
02:55East Anglia, central southern England for example.
02:58One or two showers elsewhere as well.
03:00And across Scotland and northern Ireland, generally a cloudier picture.
03:03However, things are settling down.
03:06It's going to feel fresher on Sunday with temperatures back towards average for the time of year.
03:10But as we go into next week, higher pressure starts to build from the south.
03:15That will lead to a sunnier outlook through next week, initially in the south and then more widely from midweek.
03:22And temperatures are going to rise once again, day by day.
03:25So young people are going to get to the sunnier outlook.
03:27So, as you can't, you know, the night when you go into the city.
03:29That will lead to nothing.
03:31And then you're going to go into the sky first of the Midlands.
