Thunderstorms move north over England this morning, with the highest risk in the amber warned area in the southeast. Eventually these showers will reach southern Scotland, causing some significant accumulations, hail and lightning in their path. Another band of rain sweeps into the southwest later on tonight.- This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 19/07/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Aidan McGivern.
00:00Hello, good morning. There is the risk of further heavy rain to come during the rest of the morning.
00:05An amber warning in force for thunderstorms as an area of thundery rain continues to move north across much of England
00:13and then eventually into southern and eastern Scotland.
00:16These are the areas most at risk during Saturday morning.
00:19An amber warning highlighting the area where a highly populated part of the UK could see further heavy downpours and large rainfall totals.
00:29The rain focus tending to migrate northwards through Saturday morning, pushing into northern England, southern and eastern Scotland.
00:37Initially showery but then merging to give a longer spell of wet and occasionally heavy rainfall across much of northern and eastern England, eastern Scotland as well.
00:47Showers surrounding this across many parts of the UK but fewer showers towards the west compared with the east.
00:53Some sunshine and still feeling warm in that sunshine with still an element of humidity in the atmosphere.
01:00Low pressure then returns to the south west as we go into Saturday night and Sunday.
01:05Systems wrapped around that low bringing further showery rain at times.
01:10So initially Saturday night we've got the wet weather across eastern Scotland.
01:13Then another band of rain sweeps into the south west, eventually reaching south Wales, the rest of the south coast overnight.
01:21Combined with strengthening winds, the risk of coastal gales for the far south west and further heavy rain in places.
01:28A gap between these systems, northern Ireland, parts of northern and eastern England, some cloudier areas.
01:33But the best of the sunshine first thing on Sunday will be across northern Ireland, western Scotland as well, faring well for sunshine.
01:39But across eastern Scotland we've got further pulses of wet weather, a yellow warning for rain here.
01:45And then our attention turns to the south west where some intense rainfall and showers are likely to continue into Sunday afternoon and overnight.
01:54All of this rotating around an area of low pressure.
01:56In between the showers, some sunny spells but feeling a little less hot and humid.
02:01Of course we need the rain at the moment in many places but the kinds of heavy rainfall rates that some places will see during the next couple of days will not necessarily lead to much useful rain and more likely to lead to impacts such as travel disruption and flash flooding.
02:19So we're keeping a close eye on all of these systems and we'll keep you updated right here at the Met Office.
