The day starts of sunny across the UK. However, as the morning turns into afternoon cloud forms in southern England and a weather front passes over Northern Ireland which brings extensive cloud cover and a band of rain. The rain band continues to move east and hits the western side of the UK mainland before the day is done. This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 23/05/2025. 00:00Hello there, welcome to your Friday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04It's a fine day today, it's a chilly start though.
00:08Temperatures plummeted overnight, even with a touch of frost.
00:11And so are keen breeze first seeing along this eastern strip.
00:14For most, it's a dry morning with some lovely sunshine coming through.
00:19Make the most of it all change into the weekend.
00:21And you can see that change coming in across the Republic of Ireland through the afternoon.
00:25Thickening cloud which extends towards Northern Ireland through mid-afternoon with the rain hot on its heels.
00:32Elsewhere, it's a dry end to the day, although you may find more clouds across Irish seacoast and western fringe of Scotland as we head through to evening time.
00:40Temperatures then 22 in the sunshine, 15 to 17 along this east coast and even for Belfast, 19 degrees Celsius here.
00:48Now through Friday night into Saturday morning, that's when we'll see the rain making inroads eastwards.
00:56The winds then pick up on Saturday with blustery showers to follow.
01:00Winds strengthen even further into Sunday with again a lot of showers in the mix,
01:04particularly across more western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:09And it's a windy start to next week again with showers.
01:12So through this evening and overnight, watch as this rain arrives and extends eastwards.
01:19The more persistent bursts will be across Northern England northwards,
01:22but we could see some rain just across more eastern counties through the early hours of tomorrow morning into Saturday mid-morning.
01:31It will clear by around lunchtime with showers to follow.
01:34And these showers will gather particularly towards the west.
01:38Here's your outlook through Sunday.
01:39We'll see a strong wind here touching gale force in places towards the far northwest with lots of showers in the mix.
01:47But further south and east, some fine weather, some sunshine, rather blustery temperatures, 21 but only 14 towards the west.
